we decided to watch all story cutscenes from the new resident evil village videogame on a whim, since it’s not really our cup of tea gameplay-wise but seems to be this massive zeitgeist moment that made us morbidly curious. And I know how much everyone cares about my thoughts on things I know very little about, so. let’s get into it huh gamers. and yeah spoilers?
for context, I’ve only played resident evil 4 and a small portion of 5. I also read the wikipedia entry for 7’s plot recently. all this to say I was only vaguely aware of how tonally wacky the series was going in
I also completely gave up following the plot of the mutagens’ soap opera, so that paid off in spades here as you might imagine
anyway so that baby in the intro. that baby’s head is just massive. humongous toddlerdome. when ethan finds the baby’s head in a jar later on. there is no way that head would fit into that jar. bad game design. no not even game design. basic stuff. one hundred years in prison for jar modeler
if I see a single functional hetero marriage in video games I will cry tears of joy. I understand their misery is kind of The Point irt them badly working through the hillbilly romp trauma but like. sheesh. at least set that up as an emotional story goal the plot will help resolve. but nope they start off miserable and it goes nowhere
I know I know the mia thing has a huge wrinkle in it but like. not really in terms of dramatic function?? set up a happy end to the re7 nightmare (miranda can keep up appearances for all she cares) and then take that all away from angry griffin mcelroy for manpain. it will still absolutely work to set up the dramatic forward momentum. why throw in this cliche Hollywood Tension in their marriage if you’re not going to address it oh maybe because it’s normalized as automatically interesting because nuclear families are a self-propagating pit of a very narrow chance at emotional happiness relying on social stigma to preserve their empty function oops my baggage slipped in yikes abort mission
I called him griffin mcelroy because I saw his face on twitter and. yeah. I will continue to do this occasionally. my house my rules
... fuck the reason I’m hung up on this is specifically because the rest of the game is so tonally dexterous (which is a shining point to me! more on that later!), and yet they felt weirdly compelled to create the aesthetic trapping of a family-at-odds trope without following it through too well. a sign of both the good and the bad stuff to come
but listen the real reason why I wanted to talk about any of this is to nitpick the fascinating backwards-engineered nucleus of the entire thing; in that this game essentially creates a melting pot of just SO many disparate horror tropes and then makes a no-holds-barred unhinged effort at weaving thick lore to piece them all together. it is truly a sight to behold. like straight up you got your backwoods fright night situation, your gothic castle vampires, your rural-industrial werewolves, and don’t forget your bloated swamp monsters over there, with then a hard left turn into robotic body horror, and the entire ass subgenre of Creepy Doll writ large, and the bloodborne tentacle monsters, and a hellboy angel bossfight, which rides on the coattails of a mech-on-mech pacific rim bonanza, and just jesus henry christ slow down
almost all of these are textural hijack jobs that don’t really get into the metaphor plain of any of those settings but the game sort-of makes an argument that the texture IS the point and revels in it. It is kind of admirable almost. The same reason why the intro felt boxed in and unmotivated is also why the rest of the game just blasts off of its hinges to the point of complete and self-indulgent tonal abandon. I kinda loved that about it. lady dimitrescu made sure to hold her hat down as she bent forward in mahogany doorways and then suddenly she’s a giant gore dragon and you settle in your temp role as dark souls man with Gun to take her ass down. Excellent??
this rhino rampage impulse to gobble up every horror aesthetic known to man comes to head when the game wrestles with its FPS trappings in what is the most hilarious solution in creating visceral player damage moments. Since most cinematics and the entire game is in first person, that leaves precious little real estate for the devs to work with if they really want to sell griffin’s physical crucible. To wit. This dude’s forearms. Specifically just the forearms. They are MASSACRED throughout the story. The poor man lives out the silent hill dimension of a hand model. by the end cutscene he looks like a neatly dressed desk clerk who had decided to stick both his grabbers into garbage disposal grinders just a few hours prior. like in addition to everything else it manages to rope in that tinge of slapstick violence into its general grievous genre collection except this time it IS for a lack of trying! truly incredible
but wait his miracle clawbacks from everything his poor paws go through are retroactively explained away, yes, but far too vaguely and far too late to console me as I sat and watched everyone’s favorite baby brother reattach an entirely severed hand to his wrist stump by just. placing it on there. and giving it a lil twist ‘n pop terminator-style. and then willing his fingers back into motion right in front of my bulging eyes. this game just does not care. it does not give a shit. and boy howdy will it work to make that into one of its strongest suits
cause generally speaking resident evil was THE premiere vanilla zombie content destinaysh for like a decade, right? and as the rest of the world and mainstream media started encroaching and bloodying its blue ocean it went and just exploded in every single conceivable horror trope direction like a smilodon on catnip. truly, genuinely fascinating franchise moves
yeah the big vampire milf is hot. other news; grass... green. although I do love the implication that her closet is just identical white dresses on a rack. cartoon network-level queen shit
apropos of nothing I’ve said there’s also this hobo dante-devimaycry-magneto man, and I can’t believe this sentence makes sense. anyway he made that “boulder-punching asshole” joke referring to chris redfield and it was probably the only easter egg that really landed for me and boy did it land hard. I have not seen him punch the boulder in re5, mind. I had only heard about how funny it is from friends. and here this dude was, probably in the same exact mindset as me, trying to grapple with that insane mental image. with you on that ian mckellen, loud and clear
I advocate vehemently against the shallow pursuit of hyper photorealism in art direction but I gotta admit it works really in favor of immersive horror like this. the european village shacks especially gave me super unchill flashbacks to my rural countryside retreat in western georgia. I could smell the linoleum dude. not cool
faces are weird in this game. can’t place it. nice textures, good animation, but the modeling template is... uuh strange? and the hair. it has that clustered-flat-clumpy look that harkens to something very specific and unpleasant but I just don’t know what. sue me
griffin’s mental aptitude to take all this shit in stride and end every seemingly traumatizing bossfight involving some fucking eldritch being yet unseen through mortal eyes by essentially throwing out an MCU quip is just. What the fuck dude? I mean that was funny how you casually yelled the f-word at a god damn werewolf that you considered a fairy tale an hour ago but are you like, all right?? it was swinging a sledgehammer the size of a bus at you, ethan
oh oh the vampires are afraid of cold and your last name is winters. I get it haha
Pro Gamer Nitpick: boss fights seemed a bit unnecessarily long?? idk why the youtuber we picked decided the ENTIRE propeller man fight counted towards the vital story scenes he was stitching together, but man mr big daddy lite there really had some get up and go huh??
why are they saying dimitrescu.. like that. is it really how you say that word or is the english language relapsing into its fetish for ending every single word with a consonant at all costs
I’m not saying it’s a dramatic miss of a twist in context of all that’s going on, but the “you died in the last game actually and have been DC’s clayface ever since” revelation is low-key. it’s. it’s just funny to me, I dont know what to say. century-old god-witch fails her evil plan after she mistakenly removes heart from what was definitely NOT just some white guy with eight fingers after all
chris realizing he’s about to become the player character and immediately swapping out his tsundere trenchcoat for the muscletight sex haver sweater
the little bluetooth speaker-sized pipe bomb he taped to his knife was nuclear?? really??? I must have missed something because that is just too good. I buy it though I totally buy it. chris just got them fun-sized nukes in his car trunk for, you guessed it, Situations
anyway this is all for now just wanted to briefly touch on how unexpectedly funny and tonally irreverent this seemingly serious game turned out to be. did not articulate any cathartic story beats whatsoever but my god it had fun connecting those plot points. he just fucking put his severed hand back on his stump and it Just Worked todd howard get in here

[Some time after their lunch date, Kogami pays a visit to his former superior for a small training session]
...
Kogami, entered the semi-abandoned base as she called “home” these days. The electric was on but was only enlightining the training place, which was placed in the center of the large room. Containing of a large tatami floor. Except the rink, there werent much furniture in this broad room. It felt as if he was in an aircraft shed.
He saw two figures under the lamp, moving back and forward. As he got closer to the figures, the one next the brunette was someone quite familiar.
‘’ Is that… me?’’
‘’Huh-..argh!’’ with a confused yelping, Akane lost her balance as the training robot kicked her legs from the ground, forcing her to fall hard on her chest.
Kogami, made a move forward to help the laying woman but Akane quickly recovered from her earlier state with a back roll, now was on her knees. She pushed a button of her watch on her left wrist, stoping the combat robot. Akane, slowly stood up while his gaze quickly checked her, if there were any injuries or such. She snorted, analyzing his look.
‘’ I am not a piece of glass, Kogami-san.’’
‘’Oh I am well aware of that,’’ He narrowed his eyes but now was more relaxed not seeing any visible injuries. ‘’just fine.’’
Kogami was next to a bench near the tatami she and her robot were on. He threw his backpack as if it was a piece of cloth. Bag fell into the floor after crushing the wood but he didnt care and sat on the bench.
He once again checked her from head to top. She was wearing a cotton pink tights and short sleeved t-shirt, some places were darker from the sweat of her efforts before his arrival. Her leg muscles were making their appearance through the thin fabric. When he saw her bending forward his eyes found hers.
“Is there something on my face, Kogami-san?” She said with a subtle grin on her lips. Kogami shrugged as she grabbed the water bottle just over the tatami, gulping down one or two sips. Kogami, leaned back putting his hands next to his body. He gestured the combat robot with a swing of his chin.
“What about it?”
Akane pulled the bottle from her lips, following his gesture. She cleared her throat before speaking.
“Oh, its just a hologram. You know to get better experince for the field.“ She walked towards the robot, which was designed as Kogami’s body with gym clothes, and tapped the head of the robot making a metalic clank sound . Kogami gave her a coy smile.
“I know its just a hologram. But why me?”
Akane didnt answered as quickly as she wanted. She sighed and combed her short damp hair with her fingers. “It keeps me on focus.” After her short sentence she touched to her watch again to make the hologram disappear. Now it was a plain robot standing in front of her.
“You mean, i keep you on focus?” Kogami continued on his flirty attitude to draw her in the corner. But the Akane he knew, the innocent girl who would blush about anything, was now nowhere to be seen. Instead Akane turned to him with a faint smile and answered honestly. “Yes. Yes you do.”
Kogami, a bit unready for this serious expression, stood up slowly on his legs. He reached to zip of his hoodie, pulling it down while he responded. “You could have said it earlier.”
He stepped on the tatami with his bare feet now his hoodie on his hand. He threw the hoodie like his bag to the bench earlier and turned right to face her fully.
Akane’s gaze wondered over him. He was wearing a black short sleeved t-shirt wrapping around his quite visible biceps, a grey sport pants a bit tight on his thighs. Her eye stopped a bit longer on his torso though. His cheeky voice guided her honey colored eyes to his own grey clouded ones. “One word and you could get the real one here. Also, i have the voice upgrade as well comparing to that mute useless metal garbage.”
Akane, not being able to contain her giggle, hide her lips behind her hand. “ Kogami-san, those combat robots are really useful.”
Kogami raised one of his eyebrows. “ You say so? I can crack open three of them, lets say, under 30 seconds.”
Now it was Akane’s turn to raise an eyebrow. “You say?”
Kogami, put his hands on his waist, leaning on his left leg. “Are you doubting me, Inspector?”
“Ex-Inspector.” She corrected him with that subtle smile again. Kogami wanted to face palm himself but he held back. Akane sipped one more time from her bottle only to throw it next to the bench Kogami’s stuff were. She turned to face him.
“Are you offering me a match, now, Kogami-san?”
Kogami shrugged, moving a bit closer to her. Now he was in front of her, half an arm lenght away. He could see the sweat drops on her neck slowly sliding down to her chest. He fixed his eyes on hers. “If it is what you desire.”
Akane, secretly gulped down, to drown the weird feelings came to her chest. The wild gaze of his grey shiny irises gave shivers to the back of her neck. She muffled an “idiot” beneath her breathe, making sure he didnt hear it. She was successful.
Akane turned to her left, opening her feet about a shoulder gap, taking her defensive standing. “So you want a rematch, if i remember correctly, i was the one who won over our small encounter years ago.”
As he also stood yet a bit bended forward, legs opened, hands in fists, Kogami looked at her. “ What? You didnt win that one-“
She is fast.
Before finishing his sentence about the fight they had years ago, in that abandoned building seconds before an explosion he protected her from, she attacked him gliding on the tatami.
She was a petite woman but as the years passed she learnt to use this to her advantage. She always knew her opponents wont be in her league mostly. So she trained herself with bigger and heavier rivals everytime.
Akane lowered herself more on her knees, dashed to his left side, to his less defensed part. Or she thought.
Akane caught Kogami with her well balanced level change and speed. She threw a punch to under his left arm directly into his chest. Her fist brushed over his shirt as Kogami also slided on the tatami to the front, blocking her attack. Akane without even taking a breath, she turned around her right leg to give a high kick to her opponent.
Kogami saw Akane’s leg before hitting his face. He swayed a bit on his legs, shaked himself to gain the balance and the sight back.
But Akane wasnt planning to give him the chance.
As soon as her left leg touched the ground, she attacked forward again. Her right punch blocked with his left hand, her left with his right. He was now full focused. He leaned a bit forward, still blocking her forceful fists with his forearms. “You could have been a bit kinder towards me. This will leave a bruise, i dont have a metalic face.”
Akane chuckled for a second, looking at his cheek already getting red. She stayed silent, grabbed his left wrist with her left hand pulled him towards herself and twisted his palm to ceiling, her right hand was also pushing his elbow downwards. This made Kogami grunt, as he was facing the floor on his half bending knees now.
Very well, she wanted this.
He threw his body forward into a tumble to release himself from her grabbing. He saved his aching arm from her ,now was behind her. As she was turning to her back, he grabbed her opened arm quicker than before. He raised it upwards, rising on his left knee to create a room for his right leg to kick the back of hers. His heavy leg found its target, making her to fall on her back. Still holding her left arm Kogami stood up. He gently twirled her palm to an unnatural state.
She grunted with pain and had to turn facedown on the tatami, to not get her shoulder dislocated. Kogami, standing over her, took a short breath before releasing her from his grip.
“You improved yourself fairly, Tsunemori.” he complimented her. And he was serious about every word. He knew she could fight and protect herself, but feeling it directly made a difference. Nothing came from her as a response so Kogami got worried if he went hard on her too much.
“Tsune- ugh?!”
To his confusion, Akane rolled over to her right side, mirroring his attack, she kicked him behind his knees. When his body lowered to ground she grabbed his left arm, raised her torso lifting up her waist and legs. She instantly caged his neck and head between her calfs, locking her feet with a twist. Kogami with a thud fell on the floor, eyes widened with shock. Akane hugged to his left arm, now he was in her steel like leg lock.
She arched her back, making the grip tighter. Kogami, growled in his chest, he grabbed her ankles with his free hand tried to open the lock. But it was, no wonder , in vain.
Before his vision got dark, he hit the tatami floor a few times, declaring his defeat.
Akane grunted as she losen up her grip around him. She pulled her legs back to herself, still layed down next to him trying to recover her breathing.
Seconds of silence past. Until both of them started giggling at the same time.
“ 30 seconds you were saying?”scorned him.
“ I might have been underestimated you a bit.” said Kogami now leaning on his arm, looking at her from up.
Akane turned her head to left to encounter with his soft gaze. “Biggest mistake of yours, i assume.”
Kogami, snorted looking at the ceiling as if praying to god. “ Thats for sure. Should i start counting the times you sent me to hospital room, Tsunemori?”
A rush of blood went to Akane’s cheeks. “ You were not obeying to my orders that time Kogami-san! I apologized a lot.” She stood up on both of her elbows, now same level with his face. Seeing a cheeky yet quite relaxed expression of him caught her off of guard.
“Yeah, you did apologize a lot. Should have been me who did all of it though.” His right hand reached over, slightly brushing away the hair that was hiding her eyes. With the sudden move, Akane held her breath for a time she felt like a year. Not changing his caring expression a couple more seconds, he watched her face in a dreamy look, just before standing up.
He placed his hands on the floor, taking a boost from it, stood up. He hold out his hand to her. Akane, grabbed his hand, realizing the size difference between them once more. Her cheeks got a bit more pinkier.
“You can kick a full grown-ass man from floor to floor, but a small act of chivalry makes you blush.” He chuckled with his hoarse voice. “ You are one of a kind, Akane Tsunemori.”
Akane, not knowing if she should pull her hand back, shrugged. “ Well, at least, i am the first statutory enforcer in the history.”
This stole a full laughter from his lips.
“ I didnt mean about that specific kind.” His smile reached to his eyes. Akane gave him an equal smile, as bright as the stars.
“So, what are we getting tonight?” She realized neither he or she released each other from their hand hold.
“Hmm, what are you in the mood for?” He asked walking together with her to the bench.
“Noodles!”
Kogami, smirked while grabbing his stuff with his free hand. His fingers entwined with her delicate ones.
“Noodles, it is.”

a no voldemort au- draco meets the potters + the mauraders:
"what if they all hate me?" draco asked wearily, fiddling with harry's scarf as they approached his parents house. they had decided to take a port key from kings cross to a couple blocks from his house in hopes that the walk would calm draco down. the blonde had decided against going to the manner for christmas, seeing as his mother was the only one there who was worth seeing and she agreed that he should finally meet his boyfriend's family.
"dray, they wont hate you. they see you as family already and they havent even met you yet! plus, im sure the cookies you baked for all of them will persuade any fiber of their being that doesnt like you" harry assured the shorter boy, pressing a soft kiss to his temple as he approached his house. he knocked softly on the door and stood back. they waited for a moment before a familiar head of golden hair came into view.
"harry!" peter pettigrew shouted, welcoming the boy in his arms. the man was short and had a soft belly, but seemed extremely friendly. he had messy golden hair that waved in some places. the sweater he had on was obviously homemade and reminded draco of the ones he and harry had from the weasley's. the man let harry go from his grip and looked at draco, scanning him. his expression faltered for a moment upon seeing his slytherin scarf, but quickly faded back into a grin. "you must be draco! we've been told wonderful things about you! come in, come in!"
the potters home was very warm and inviting compared to malfoy manner. there was a fire in the fireplace and the couch was soft and worn in compared to the hard leather that was in his home. draco glanced around the room and smiled small. he already liked the potters much more than he thought he would.
"wormy," harry spoke as he gently placed his hand on the small of his boyfriend's back, "we're going to go put our trunks in my room, tell everyone we'll be down in a moment" peter nodded at the boys words and heading into the kitchen. harry turned to his love and smiled.
"you have a very nice home, harry," draco spoke in the soft voice that harry fell in love with. draco was a gentle and soft person, he loved that about him. the boy was dressed in pastels as often as he could and always left behind his uniform shoes for those of a pastel colour.
"im glad you like it, you'll be here for two weeks. im also glad that me constantly mentioning how amazing you are in conversations with my family worked. they love you already!" harry beamed before taking dracos hand. "now, c'mon we do have to take our trunks up," and the boys headed up the stairs.
"your bedroom is much more inviting than mine." draco spoke when harry pushed the door open. harry had his room covered in gryffindor banners and quidditch posters. the room itself was a warm gray colour that let all of the bright gryffindor red and gold stand out. harrys bed had plain black and white sheets and a stuffed teddy bear sitting against his pillows. it was perfect.
"that's because your house looks like dementors decorated it, dray," harry laughed, laying his trunk down at the foot of his bed. he took dracos and repeated the action. "now let's get out of this winter gear, yeah?" he hummed, looking at the blonde boy who simply nodded.
"does- does your family mind what i wear?" draco asked timidly. he had opened his trunk and remembered that he had most packed skirts, white jeans, and pastel sweaters. harry wrapped his arms around his precious baby and kissed his neck, nipping at the skin.
"of course not, just dont dress like you've been in azkaban for twelve years and you'll be fine," he muttered, now focused on the soft red mark he was making on draco's neck. the blonde shivered as harry slid his hands under his sweater and started to suck at his neck.
"harry," draco sighed out as he pushed him away, "i dont want to show up to dinner tonight with a hickey please" the raven haired laughed and threw his hands up in surrender. before going back to his open trunk.
"wear the pink skirt with that one sweater you like wearing so much" harry commented as he pulled out his weasley sweater. "and make sure to add on the pink flower crown, it makes you look extra precious" draco blushed at his boyfriend's words as he tugged off his thick green sweater.
"they really wont care that im in a skirt?" he asked as he pulled out the pink skirt from his trunk. harry shook his head lightly, cuffing his blue jeans.
"they seriously won't, love" draco blushed and nodded before changing into the outfit harry suggested. minus the flower crown. he felt that was a bit much for just meeting his family.
"did you pack my white fuzzy socks?" draco asked as he turned to harry. he shook his head yes and tossed them to the blonde. draco sat on the floor to pull them onto his feet and hummed as harry began to brush the gel out of his hair.
"i still dont see why you got a sweater that says something in french. what does it mean?" harry asked, setting the brush aside and pulling a pink flower crown from dracos bag. "and dont think i wouldnt notice you not wearing this" he placed it on top of dracos soft curls and pulled him off the ground.
"it means what it means," draco smiled, looking down at the writing "baise moi" on his sweater. he looked up at harry and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "let's go see your family"
first up was sirius and remus. harry had claimed that they would be easy going. remus was. sirius wasnt.
"dray, this is remus and sirius. hush- yes, professor lupin is also my uncle- moony, padfoot, this is draco" harry introduced. draco held out a shaky hand and smiled at the two men, only recieving one warm smile back. remus had gladly shaken his hand, grinning brightly at him. sirius, on the other hand, had a stone cold look in his eyes as he scanned draco up and down. draco let his hand fall and glanced at harry. remus cleared his throat.
"why dont you go say hello to your parents, harry?" he suggested, watching draco tensely stand under padfoots glare. harry nodded, wrapping his arm protectively around his boyfriend's waist and guiding him to the kitchen.
"there's my boy!" james potter yelled as harry walked into the kitchen. he grinned brightly at his son before turning to the blonde. "you must be mister malfoy, i have to say you have your father's hair, but from what harry has said, you have your mother's heart." he softly smiled at draco and draco gave a gentle grin back.
"how have you two been?" lily asked, gently giving her son's shoulder a squeeze before continuing to work in the kitchen.
"we've been brilliant," harry smiled, running his hand gently against dracos side in an effort to calm him down; he was trembling softly against the raven haired boy.
"that's lovely to hear. draco, harry said you're an excellent baker?" james asked as lily continued around the kitchen. draco shyly nodded.
"i enjoy it yes, but im not sure if excellent is the word i would use, mr. potter. though, i did bake you all cookies as a thank you for letting me into your home.." his voice was soft and shakey, fragile almost, as he spoke. lily turned towards him.
"love, you didnt have to do that! you're always welcome here" her green eyes gleamed as she smiled at the boy who leaned softly into harry. draco muttered a soft 'thank you' and looked down with a blush.
"I HEARD COOKIES" wormtail squealed as he rushed into the kitchen, moony and padfoot not far behind.
"yeah, dray baked some for all of you. honey cranberry for peter, sugar cookies for mom, oatmeal raisin for remus, chocolate chip for dad, and peanut butter for sirius. that was the mysterious owl that you all got a month ago from 'hermione'. draco figured she would be the only person you would believe to write in cursive" harry spoke proudly of his boyfriend, his fingers still running up and down the anxious boy's side.
"yeah, hes a keeper, thank you malf- draco" sirius spoke for the first time since harry had arrived. surprisingly to draco.
"oh- um- of course.." he trailed off, his blush only increasing as he buried his face in harry's neck and wrapped his arms around his waist. harry chuckled softly, kissing the top of the small boys head. he was going to be just fine.
...
"thank you for preparing dinner, mrs. potter," draco spoke softly as he looked up from his plate. the family had just sat for dinner and draco had never seen a meal quite so homely.
"you're quite welcome, draco. and please, its lily" the red head smiled as they all began to eat. draco ate quietly, listening to the conversations at the table. lily, remus, and harry had began talking about his studies and how he wanted to teach at hogwarts one day. james, peter, and sirius began a playful argument on what quidditch team was better.
draco fiddled with his sweater as he nervously listened in on the second conversation. they had become louder and louder and draco was not a fan of loud, heated discussions. he gently closed his eyes before he felt a hand grab his and bring it to sit on top of the table. harry had quickly intertwined their fingers and pressed a kiss to draco's knuckles as he continued with his conversation. draco smiled small and let himself relax at harrys sweet gesture. he always knew how to calm him down.
"i like your outfit," peter commented, smiling at the pastel crown on dracos head. "pink roses are a beautiful flower. the potters grow a wide variety in their back garden actually! if youd like, we can sneak off and go see them?" his voice was gentle and quiet, letting no one else but draco hear him. the blonde smiled and squeezed harry's hand, pressing a kiss to his neck and letting go. harry simply turned and gave him a soft smile and peck on the cheek before returning to his conversation. draco brushed off his skirt before looking at wormtail who smirked and pushed his chair back.
"i gotta go grab something from my trunk, ill be back!" he spoke through his lie clearly and walked off. draco leaned his head on harry's shoulder.
"im gonna go to the bathroom, ill be back" he murmured in his ear before standing and following peter.
the golden haired man had waited for draco at the back door and smiled once he had arrived. he pushed open the door and walked into a beautiful garden filled with flowers.
"oh merlin.." draco whispered with a smile. they had so many flowers that it made the greenhouses at hogwarts look minuscule.
"do you know how to make flower crowns by hand?" peter asked, running his hand over some tulips. draco beamed and nodded. it was one of his favourite things to do. peter grinned. "care to make a couple?"
...
it had been ten minutes later when harry realized that his baby was missing still. he paused completely in his conversation.
"you alright, harry?" remus questioned upon seeing the look on his face.
"draco has been gone an awfully long time," he muttered, standing up. "im gonna go look for-" he was cut off by loud laughing from outside "-him." he finished, walking to his back door and pushing it open, his family following. harry almost melted when he saw his boy. draco was surrounded in flower crowns and was currently making one out of lavender. peter was stacking flower crowns on top of his head and couldnt seem to get past three. everytime the crowns fell off, draco would gently pick them up to make sure they hadnt gotten damaged before setting them back down and continuing to craft another one.
"cookies and flower crowns, huh?" sirius called out, his comment clearly aimed at draco. the two boys heads snapped up. draco blushed and glanced down at the, fifteen maybe, flower crowns that he had made. harry walked over and picked up one made of white tulips.
"merlin, you're absolutely precious" he mumbled, crouching down. draco blushed harder at his boyfriends words and glanced at him. "and you were so worried about them hating you" harry leaned in towards draco, his lips ghosting over the smaller. he pulled away and smirked. "let's bring all these inside, yeah?" harry stood and grabbed a handful of flower crowns and walked back inside. the rest of his family followed and peter picked up some flower crowns as draco carried the rest. harry potter was a tease. and draco malfoy was madly in love with him.
...
the two boys laid in harry's bed, curled up against each other, basking in each others warmth.
"now that wasnt so bad, was it dragon?" harry said teasingly. his fingers softly intertwined into dracos curls, running through them.
"yeah, i guess not" the blonde mumbled sleepily, pressing a kiss to harrys shoulder. "thank you for having such a wonderful family" he said, dozing off shortly after.
"thank you for becoming part of it, future mister potter" harry grinned, pressing a kiss to dracos soft hair before falling asleep with a soft grin.
they were happy. and that was all that mattered.

Hi! Same anon as the previous one. Tbh, I agree wholeheartedly with you. Y'see I do ask rhetorically, too but i could really accept and understand how and why ppl can be oblivious to IchiRuki, and somehow felt that the 'canon' should suffice, even the most excruciating of all is the fact a number found the ending even acceptable (ships aside, too). Again, I could respect that. But it's my greatest bane when ppl ask 'why' and not be clear they are asking rhetorically because I literally will
provide you an actual answer. And I get it, it’s the reason why ppl find shipping wars toxic and silly. But then again, as human, conflicts are always part of us (partly because as social psych explains so, we are gravitated to the negative for that allows us to change and survive), and the reason why “logical fallacies” are coined in the first place. Human will always debate, and argue about something; the only thing we could change is how we approach the opposing views.
Again, I dont condone any way, shape or form of abuse and harm. In some certain extent, I could perhaps understand it’s much harder for some IH to approach the actual argument being there’s either too much noise, and trapped in their own island between sea of salt. Thus becoming too acquianted w/ few IH who shared the same thought until it became their views as the only truth (see, that’s why its important to have debates! it is what keep us grounded and fair! Just like you said)
Who am I to speak though? I never ever challenged anyone anyways. And as you said, you just have to understand things in every way you could possibly think of–endless ‘whys’. Which is where I agree in your reply the most–this silly fandom wars is just the black mirror to every truth that lies beneath human psyche–the dark and the grimy. Heck, being a psych major is like staring at dark hole–at times, good, but most just plain confusing, revolting even or just heartbreaking.
Sorry it’s been long, but for the final of this ask: let me tell how glad I was with IchiRuki fandom I found in tumblr. It was the saltiest I’ve ever been (im not generally a fandom person anyways) but it’s the himalayan salt–expensive and actually nutritive it really deepened my desire to become wiser in general. And you for your wonderful essays, critiques and whatnot. I definitively would love to talk with you more not only about IchiRuki but the wonders and nightmare that us humans! Kudos!
I have sitting in my drafts a post spelling out my thoughts on “canon” (and thus, the people who cling to it) in that as a concept it privileges:
officiality over quality when it comes to validity (thus violating Sturgeon’s law)
corporations (intellectual property rights holders) over fans, and thus capitalists over proletarians
hierarchical dominance over mutualist networking within fandom
curative fandom over transformative fandom
genre over literary content
plot over characters
events over emotions
It is notable that (1) generally degrades art as a whole, (2) generally advances the capitalist agenda, and (3–7) generally advances the dominance of men over women (as the genders tend to be instructed by society to view these as A. dichotomies rather than spectrums, and B. to ascribe gender to them and make them polarities). These form the sides of a mutually reinforcing power structure (in the typical “Iron Triangle” fashion) designed to preserve and maintain the status quo.
Who really benefits from say, the policing of what is or is not “canon” in Star Wars? Disney, first and foremost. And then whomever (almost certainly male) decides to dedicate their time to memorizing the minutiae of whatever that corporation has decided is “legitimate.”
One can imagine a universe in which fan fic is recognized by companies for what it is: free advertising. (Much like fan art already is.) Instead, it is specifically targeted by demonetization efforts in a way that fan art isn’t. Why? Because it demonstrates that corporate control and “official” sanction has no bearing on quality, and it is thus viewed as undermining the official products.
In the same way, by demonstrating that most “canonical” works are frankly shit, it undermines the investiture of fans in focusing on details that are ultimately errata (the events, the plot, the genre), which is the core function of curative fandom and the reason for its hierarchical structure. The people who “know the most” are at the top, but what they “know” is basically useless garbage. And those people so-engaged are, of course, usually male.
To “destroy” the basis of their credibility, and indeed the very purpose of their community, is naturally viewed by them as an attack.
(This is not to say that efforts to tear down internal consistency within established cultural properties are good unto themselves, or even desirable. For example, efforts to redefine properties such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Ghostbusters, for the sake of a identity-politics agenda have largely A. failed as art, B. failed as entertainment, C. failed to attract the supposedly intended audience, and D. failed to advance the agenda in question. Trying to repurpose extant media in the name of culture wars is essentially always doomed to failure unless it is done deftly and gradually.)
(At the same time, this also shows what I was talking about last time, with regard to people seeing whatever they want to see. You will see people complain that Star Trek and Doctor Who didn’t “used to be so political,” which is obviously nonsense. These shows were always political. What changed was how their politics were presented. For example, Star Trek has, since TNG, always shown a nominally socialist or outright communist future, but was beloved by plenty of conservatives because they could [somehow] ignore that aspect of it.)
Of course, almost no one is seriously suggesting that one side of the spectrums outlined above be destroyed, rather merely that a new balance be struck upon the spectrum. But, as we have seen time and again in society, any threat to the status quo, whether that be 20% of Hugo Awards going to non-white male authors or the top income tax rate in America being increased by a measly 5.3% (from 28.7% to 34%… when the all-time high was 94% and for over 50 years it was above 50%) is a threat. This is why, for example, Republicans are out there branding AOC as a “socialist” when her policies are really no different at all from a 1960 Democrat who believed in FDR’s New Deal. (Which they, of course, have also demonized as “socialism.”)
(As an aside, all this ignores the fact that most of the “literary canon” of Western civilization, or at least English literature… is Biblical or historical fan fic.)
And this is when I finally get to my point.
Those people out there who denigrate and mock shippers and shipping, the people who hurl “it reads like fan fiction” as an insult, and so on, are the people who benefit from and enjoy the extant power structure. You will see the same thing with self-identified “gamers” complaining about “fake girl gamers.” Admitting that the hobby has a lot of women in it, and a lot of “casuals,” and is indeed increasingly dominated by “non-traditional demographics” is an affront to the constructed identity of being a “gamer.” They are “losing control.” And they don’t like it.
This exact same sort of population is what the “fanbase” of Bleach has been largely reduced down to through a slow boiling off of any actual quality. Of course they’re dismissive of people who are looking for anything of substance: their identity, their “personal relationship” with the franchise, is founded on a superficial appreciation of it: things happening, flashy attacks, eye-catching character designs, fights, etc.
(What this really boils down to, at heart, is that society at large has generally told men that emotions are bad, romance and relationships of all kinds are gross, and that thinking and reflecting on things is stupid. So of course they not only don’t care about such things, but actively sneer at them as “girly” or “feminine,” which is again defined by society at large as strictly inferior. And this gender divide and misogyny is of course promulgated and reinforced by the powers that be, the capitalists, to facilitate class divisions just like say racism generally is.)
(The latest trick of these corporate overlords has been the weaponization of “woke” culture to continue to play the people off one another all the time. “If you don’t like this [poorly written, dimensionless Mary Sue] Strong Female Character, then you are a racist misogynist!” They are always only ever playing both sides for profit, not advancing an actual ideological position. It is worth noting that there was a push by IH some years ago to define IR as “anti-feminist” for critiquing Orihime for essentially the exact same reasons [admittedly, not for profit, but still as critical cover].)
Which makes it very curious, therefore, that the most ardent IH supporters tend to be women. (Though there are more than a few men, they seem to tend to support it because it is “canon” and to attack it is to attack “canon” and thus trigger all of the above, rather than out of any real investment.) I think there are a number of reasons for this (which I have detailed before) and at any rate it is not particularly surprising; 53% of white women voted for Trump, after all.
What we are really seeing in fandom, are again the exact same dynamics that we see at larger and larger scales, for the exact same reasons. The stakes are smaller, but the perception of the power struggle is exactly the same.
Of course, the people who are involved in these things rarely think to interrogate themselves as to the true dimensions and root causes of their motivations. People rarely do that in general.
Putting all that aside, I’m glad that you have found a place you enjoy and feel comfortable, and thank you for the kind words, although I am not of the opinion that there is anything poignant about the non-fiction I write. It is, as I keep trying to emphasize, all there to be seen. One just has to open their eyes. So, it’s hard for me to accept appreciation of it.
Anyway, don’t feel shy about coming off of anon rather than continuing to send asks. We don’t really bite.

time for skyrim, wherein i briefly remember to check in on the plot and then promptly get distracted away from it again five seconds later
Tumblr media
ah. that. is absolutely made of flesh, huh
Tumblr media
oh fuck is it time. are we doing this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so reading the scroll caused me to get. teleported into a moment in time when alduin attacked before, i think ? ? ? ? it was very confusing and overwhelming
Tumblr media
OH this is bad this is very bad
so now i think im supposed to. talk to someone about a thing to sort out potentially Trapping A Dragon In The Middle Of Whiterun which i have. not been doing
Tumblr media
however speaking of whiterun i finally fucking managed to kill these two alik’r guys who were just stuck in the walkway (i already finished that quest ages ago and couldn’t do anything else to interact with them, they would just say like generic ‘good morning’ responses if i tried to talk to them, they were just Stuck there) without getting caught 900 tries later. i dumped their bodies under the bridge and somehow nobody suspects a thing even though i dragged them down here in plain sight of like 2 guards. nobody saw me kill them, so clearly i am innocent here
Tumblr media
straight and to the point, i see
ive been on a recurring quest with this guy giving him more and more money to excavate this tomb where all his miners keep getting murdered by draugr over and over again in the most incompetent mining expedition the world has ever seen, but i have so much fucking money at this point it doesnt bother me in the slightest i just think its really funny (and i can Hear a dragon shout wall somewhere so i figure i gotta keep this up until they get it unburied)
Tumblr media
oh
he was getting them dead on PURPOSE
Tumblr media
come to think of it this does look quite a bit more like ritual sacrifice than draugr attacks but what do i know
Tumblr media
[sitcom mom voice] raaaaalis, did you murder all those people? [laughtrack]
i guess he was either killing people or was possessed to kill people or was at LEAST sending people to their deaths intentionally, im not sure, for the glory of ahzidal and its not entirely clear whether he was a knowing, willing participant in this mass murder or if he was just being used by ahzidal but ultimately i decided i didnt really care, ive killed tons of people including The Fucking Emperor Of Skyrim, for the glory of the night mother, so Who Am I To Judge
haven’t we all committed murder because some ancient powerful being told us to. come on now
so i just let him go :’) i dont know if theres any particular consequence here one way or the other, i see him around the tavern sometimes but he doesn’t really want to talk to me (reasonable enough)
Tumblr media
PLOT TWIST: THE FALMER WERE THE FUCKIGN DWARVES’ FAULTS APPARENTLY?
Tumblr media
this cabinet has been stuck in the shelf for ages now (or maybe it always was and i didnt notice before) in my windhelm house and i figured it would eventually reset itself but uh. no such luck,
Tumblr media
ok you can’t really see what’s going on here but THIS FUCKIN GUY :’)
so i broke into the markarth temple of dibella bc i had a quest stuck in my mission log to steal a statue from them and i didnt really want to do it but i was tired of it being there and i really, really wanted to know what secret ritual was taking them this fucking long to complete so like. i just kinda walked in. i didnt try to sneak around them or anything which is apparently not what you’re supposed to do bc my dad didn’t even KNOW about this whole thing when i mentioned it bc ‘just waltz right on in there like a dumbass’ hadnt occurred to him as an option, but anyway,
the dibella priestesses catch you and they’re like ok maybe you can earn forgiveness if you go find and rescue our future sybil (like. prophet/speaker for dibella i think) so i agreed to do that
id much rather rescue a child from the forsworn than steal a statue for some rude old drunk guy anyway
i go to investigate and i find the kid’s dad, and im like hey ill save your daughter, and he’s like oh i must come with you to help and im like sure sounds good lets go
THIS GUY GETS KILLED. SO FUCKING EASILY :’) HE TOOK ONE ARROW AND DIED ON THE SPOT
so THEN i got really, really goddamn determined to get this fucker through this forsworn camp some fucking how, i did not want to show up to rescue this child and have to tell her i let her father get murdered, and it was too late to go back and tell him not to follow me, but i did have a quicksave to reload from before we left the village
so i just kept going. i kept trying. i kept running ahead of him and killing as many forsworn as i could before he could get up there and get insta-killed again. i kept repeatedly healing him and watching where he was at all times to make sure he didn’t die again. and i fucking did it i got him all the way through to his daughter ALIVE AND WELL
i did get a little reunion scene between them, i dont remember if he gave me anything at the end or anything so there’s not Really any reason to go through that much effort to keep this dumbass man alive other than “how much do i care about the wellbeing of this fictional child” but i am proud of myself nonetheless
Tumblr media
the “Fuck All Men” ability. very nice

(Hello is this blog dead because I haven't seen you post since February)
Tumblr media
nope, this blog aint dead. i have it open on a browser tab as long as im online to check on any new asks and messages. im going to leave a short explanation here for those who dont want to waste their time.
weve been busy with other interests and ive gotten something like a writers block. matchup block? since im the primary writer here, theres pretty much no activity as long as im not writing. thats it. no reason, nothing to do with personal problems. just a block.
keep reading for the real reason. you might not like it, but here it is.
Tumblr media
im going to use these john sprites to convey my emotion so it might clear up any doubts on how im feeling. lets start with the process of how i write a match.
Tumblr media
this is what a draft looks like. i write out how i would rant about this pairing, errors and all, then i leave it for the next day to come back to this and clean this draft into a polished, three-pointer paragraph. the thing is, im the only one doing this, so its obviously going to take long. i dont mind, i love to type and see something spawn from my effort.
the problem? these rants are people-specific. right. whatever im rambling about in the draft, its about the ask and the ask only. it wouldnt fit if you crammed it into another ask, it wouldnt make a lick-a-sense if it was used to answer someone else. but, when i start to polish it up with clear and coherent sentences, suddenly it becomes… static. it becomes plain and simple, uninteresting and linear. think of it like youre hearing about a book from someone you know and trust versus a review. the person you know describes why the book is great with a lot of passion and love, but theres a lot of errors in delivery and some awkward bits they havent flushed out yet.
nevertheless, its enjoying and persuasive, because you can see how they love it so much to the point where it gets them like that. they dont plan out how theyll describe the book to you word by word, because theres no need to. seeing how it gets them excited gets you excited, so you buy their faith in the book.
what about a review? its clean, its cut, its perfect in delivery. it has a flow, introducing you to the story and overall appeal, then maybe it digs down for a spoiler or two. it gels with you in a simple fashion, doesnt quite have that connection a passionate ramble has. because its professional.
thats what ive been making this blog to be. professional. i answer the request with a polished, pretty and perfect answer. theres no personal connection. i could take a match, swap out a couple of words, maybe cut out a bit, and it would be clear for another match. it feels static to write those paragraphs, and it progressively gets worse each time i repeat the process. im chipping away at something so close, so personal and unique into something dull and professional because i want it to look clean.
but thats my end of the problem. i dont like how it comes out, so what? people enjoy it. they must be, seeing how theres fifty three fucking asks for matchups and 73 followers.
i wont show all the asks i have in the inbox, but ill tell you what majority, if not all of them, sound like.
“I’m bi/pan”, “I have brown hair/eyes”, “I’m chubby/short”, “I like art/gaming/reading/writing”, “I’m shy around people I don’t know, I’m crazy around people I know”, “I’m a nerd”, “I have ADHD/Anxiety”.
Tumblr media
of course, there are some exceptions. not everything i say is as is, but from 50+ asks, these are what about three quarters of them sound like. there are personal differences, like music tastes and obscure hobbies, but the general gist is there.
im not going to say anything about the sexuality orientation, because im in a friend group where majority, if not all, are not cishets. yes, people like art and gaming.
but thats it? these descriptors are such shallow answers. i can personalise a match for you, sure, but does it feel like its right? you like gaming. so what, do you like ALL games? from FPS to Dating sims to Horror games to Sports games to Adult games? do you like ALL art? Surrealism, sculpture, comics, abstract, even those where they splash paint and call it a day? really? i dont think im asking for a lot when it comes to being specific. some asks literally just go ‘im a bi female, 5′3, i like gaming and drawing, im sometimes shy but i can be sassy at times’.
with everyone being so similar and vague, how am i supposed to give a match i feel is right? i might as well take everyones favourite boy david elizabeth strider and talk about how he likes your art and how he likes gaming and oh isnt it so great that you two like music.
there are some unique ones, and its pretty obvious which ones they are because ive put in more love into them. and i havent been able to do that to many asks.
and the physical descriptions. while im sure some of the characters do have types and preferences, i dont care for appearances. i dont care if youre fat or skinny, i dont care if youre tall or short, brown hair or blonde. you being morbidly obese or morbidly skinny may affect the match depending on how i feel the characters might respond to someone with those physical traits, but they shouldnt matter.
i dont need how you look. i dont want how you look. its shallow and unimportant. it takes up space in the ask, because you could be using it to describe your personality or interests in detail. not that youre limit to one ask, you can send in an entire fucking fourteen page essay and id match you, as long as youre telling me something i can pair you with.
telling me youre ‘chubby’ or ‘blonde’ doesnt help visualise shit. this shouldnt be new information to you or anyone else. writing shit like ‘he loves your curves!’ or ‘she likes how short you are because it makes you cute’ is bullshit and is simply self-serving nonsense. yes, its an additional bonus if your lover likes how youre short or fat, but that shouldnt be why theyre in love with you. a paragraph based on how much they like to hold you are appreciate your body is utter fucking nonsense. you appreciate your own body, and thats it.
i dont feel inspired when i look at some of these asks. i dont feel like i should answer any of these because a) im not obligated to, this blog is just a side hobby and b) id be writing something i dont enjoy for people who might also not enjoy it. i dont deserve to sit at my laptop and write something i feel doesnt represent my work or ideas well, and the person who im matching doesnt deserve the half-assed boring paragraph of nonsense im pulling out of my ass just to clear the inbox.
Tumblr media
ive taken some time away from this blog and upon receiving this ask, i wanted to use the same old excuse every other blog uses: ‘we’ve been busy, so we went on an unannounced hiatus’.
but thats not true. with the pandemic forcing lockdowns, theres essentially nothing else for us to do. if anything, this would mean that we have more time to write.
so there it is. my truthful answer as to why nothings coming out of this blog.
part of this is my fault. i thought that maybe i could force myself to match all those vague asks that feel like theyre about the same person, just with a couple of changes. but i cant. i wont. im not going to keep writing shit i dont like, and im not going to keep giving half-assed matches, giving characters people are at the very least sure to be okay with.
i want to write exciting, unique and adorable relationships. i thought that with the homestuck fandom being so vast and creative, maybe i would get the chance to meet and write for a couple of people who were just so different it would make pairings id never thought of.
but nah, it looks like everything is the same. all the anon asks start to bleed together. the responses start becoming the same. im given descriptions that sound so tame, so generalised. like somehow, youre afraid of letting me know who you are as a person. or not, perhaps you just struggle with expressing yourself. thats why youre using anon to send in your ask, isnt it?
i turned anon on because i wanted to respect privacy. i wanted people to be able to send in each and every detail about themselves while remaining behind a mask so they could get the best match without exposing every inch of themselves on a blog. maybe that was my mistake.
ill leave the matches open, but im only going to do the ones that interest me. but if you decide that you dont give a fuck about the quality of the match, tell me or something. i have drafts that i can just post. maybe youd like that.
-pretty obviously, mod olio.

April Reading Review
April was a big month for me. After not reading for a long time, this month I've fallen back in love with it. So I've decided to log all the books I read from now on. To track and remember what I've read throughout the year. Sorry if I shit on your favorite book.
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
The only book I DNF'd. I've tried to read this series 3 times since it came out and I just cant. I quit about half way through everytime. It's just extremely slow and I cant seem to get invested. The characters are bland and dont intrest me at all. Just didn't care for it in the slightest.
Need by Carrie Jones
Oh, was this a trip. And not a good one. Being completely honest I dont remember any of the characters names and I dont care enough about this title to look them up. I will refer to them by their stereotypes that were so fuckinh prevalent in this novel. 🙃 So the story is about this girl, your typical "look how quirky and plain I am" ya heroine for these B list supernatural romances, is sent to this little town in I want to say North Carolina, but dont quote me there. She moves in with her Grandma, who is 100% the best character in the book, after he dad mysterious drops dead on the kitchen floor. So, right off the bat we end up in the first day of school trope. Main character is in the office and here we meet a boy and a girl WHO ARE CLEARLY THE ANTAGONISTS OF BOOK. This may just be a me problem but I absolutely hate when I can unravel the entire book in the first few chapters. It feels like the author was lazy and didnt put enough effort into concealing the intent and weaving a mystery. I digress, the two main villains and the main love interest are all introduced within the first 3 chapters and like, it's made clear who these characters are meant to be. It honestly felt like the writer looked at a list of stereotype tropes and started checking them off. So yeah, weird shit starts happening and the main character is convinced someone in trying to kill her. Oh, theres also this overarching theme of high school boys wandering into the woods and disappearing. Conclusion: FAIRIES! Or pixies rather which arent really pixies but have the name forcefully sewn onto them in this novel. And shapeshifters are the towns only hope! Just ugh. I don't want to talk about this book anymore. It was awful and I wont be continuing the trilogy. I rated it 2 stars out of 5 right after I read it but I almost dont feel it deserves that now. Looking back on it, Need was just a dumpster fire.
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White
This book was fantastic. No if, ands, or buts about it. It was one of the best books I've read this month. I'm usually not a big fan of horror retellings or historical fiction so I went in expecting to hate it and that absolutely wasnt the case. The book follows the story of Elizabeth Lavenza, the future wife of Victor Frankenstein, and her adventures prior to her marriage. I dont want to spoil too much because I think anyone who is a fan of suspense will love this novel. The side characters are usually my biggest critique in YA but the author worked magic with them. Justine and Mary were both angels and I loved them so much. It was just an all around good read that had me captivated from start to finish. 4.5/5 stars. Deducted a half point because I'm salty about the fate of my favorite character. Is that petty?
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
Again, another title I kind of expected to have issues with but didnt. The book definitely suffers from a lot of YA tropes but they are presented in a more interesting way than in Need. The story follows a budding witch named Sophia who is being sent to a magical reform school called Hecate Hall. But it's not your typical "I got sent to boarding school" story. The year before a witch had died under mysterious circumstances, her body completely drained of blood. Everyone thought it was Sophie's vampire roommate Jenna who did it but there was never enough evidence. And now its happening again. The story is great and while the cast suffered a bit from trope syndrome, the twists in the plot really made up for it. I would definitely give the trilogy a read if supernatural school settings are your thing. 4/5 stars.
Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins
The sequel to Hex Hall. The continuation was really good and had an ending I absolutely didnt see coming. Actually liked this entry better than the first in the series. I plan to continue the trilogy as well as the spin off novels. 4.5/5 Deducted half a point for the infuriatingly ambiguous ending cliffhanger.
Sweep by Cate Tiernan
This book was meh at best. It was a tiny book about a girl who becomes a witch. She gets super into wicca and because of a pagan boy at school. It wasnt great but it was semi accurate to the religion. I dont honestly even remember much about the book. It went in one ear and out theother. Solid 3/5.
Splintered by A.G. Howard
This. Book. Is. Wonderful. It's a retelling sort of thing of Alice in Wonderland. It follows a girl named Alyssa, who is the descendant of Alice Liddel, as she tries to break her family's curse of madness. It infects only the women of the line and will eventually drive them insane, as it has Alyssa's mom. The one blight on an otherwise perfect book is Jebidiah, Alyssa's crush. He is a trash character and I hate him. I have so many problems with him that it would take far to long to list. My biggest one is that he is mildly abusive and extremely controlling. Just in the first part of the story he intentionally ruins Alyssa's education opportunity to study abroad purely for selfish reasons, forces his way into her home when he was asked to leave, goes through her belongings after being told not to, gives off major stalker vibes, and consistently treats her like his property. His presence was such a fucking stain on an otherwise lovely romp. Honestly, Morpheus and the twisted world building were what saved the book for me. Howard did such a brilliant job weaving together a demented version of an already dark land. 4.5/5. Gotta take a half point for the oozing, cancerous sore that is Jebidiah Holt.

How Often Does Joe Manchin Vote With Republicans
New Post has been published on https://www.patriotsnet.com/how-often-does-joe-manchin-vote-with-republicans/
How Often Does Joe Manchin Vote With Republicans
Tumblr media
The West Virginia Senator Was Cozy With Trump For Political Reasons But Hes Less Of An Obstacle To An Ambitious Agenda Than An Organized Gang Of Senate Moderates
There is now a new most powerful person in the United States: Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. With the Senate evenly split, Manchin, a Democrat representing a state in which nearly 70 percent of the votes cast in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections went to Donald Trump, has the power to break a tied vote on almost any legislative business requiring a simple majority to pass. He can even decide which bills to be passed with a simple majority.
For some liberals, this is a disheartening prospect. Manchin voted with Trump more than any other Senate Democrat, opting to confirm two of the former presidents three Supreme Court nominees and evenflirting with endorsing Trumps reelection campaign.* If the new Democratic majority is forced to craft legislation designed to win over Manchin, it could all but guarantee a watered-down and compromised version of the big and transformative agenda Joe Biden began promising last year.
But, honestly, negotiating with Manchin may not be as difficult as liberals fear. A much more worrying alternative is not just possible but may be taking shape at this very moment.
Joe Manchin is, considering his circumstances, by no means the worst Democratic senator. He is quietly a semi-reliable partisan who opposed the GOPs tax bill and the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. And while he later suggested to the press that he would consider endorsing Trump, Manchin did vote to oust him in his first impeachment.
Stop The Steal Unfolding In Plain Sight
But you know who would gladly use a wacked out video clip to contest a free and fair election? Republican state legislators, local officials and members of Congress.
Much like the Jan. 6 insurrection, the GOP plan to steal the next presidential election is unfolding in plain sight. The goal isnt just to make it harder to vote but to also undermine the administration of elections, remove any official who stood in the way of Trumps attempt to overthrow the 2020 election, and then give Republican legislatures new powers to interfere in elections when they dont like the results.
This is happening as Republicans are preparing new electoral maps that will almost surely allow them to take back the House, while earning far fewer votes than their opponents. And if Republicans control Congress, the chances of a duly elected Democratic president having a victory accepted in both the House and Senate are plunging toward zero.
Faced with what Ari Berman, author of the book “Give Us The Ballot,” calls a concerted attempt to end the second Reconstruction, whats Manchin thinking about?
In an op-ed Sunday, Manchin insisted, The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy and protecting that right should not be about party or politics. This sentence should be the foundation of a stinging rebuke to Republicans who are undermining that right across the country, but the West Virginia senator used it to slam his fellow Democrats.
How Does The John Lewis Act Differ From The For The People Act
Descriptions of the two pieces of legislation are often boiled down to the For the People Act as broad and the John Lewis Act as narrow. Thats true, but the bigger difference is that the For the People Act is a highly prescriptive bill that preempts state voting and election laws, mandates many practices and prohibits many others .
The John Lewis Act would create procedural rules governing voting-rights violations. This is similar to Section 2 of the original Voting Rights Act, which established legal grounds for private parties or the federal government to challenge state laws that are intended to, or have the effect of, diluting minority voting rights. . The far more powerful Sections 4 and 5 created a system whereby jurisdictions with a history of discriminatory practices would have to submit changes in voting and election laws to the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department for review and preclearance as non-discriminatory before they could take effect. It was Section 4, which set up a formula for determining which jurisdictions fell under the Section 5 preclearance requirement, that the Court killed largely killed in its 2013 Shelby County v. Holder ruling, claiming it was based on outdated evidence of discriminatory practices.
Despite Manchins Continued Demands For Voter Id Rules And Against Mail
After an all-night vote-a-rama on the Democrats $3.5 trillion budget resolution, the Senate early this morning took a step forward on voting rights legislation, with a 50-49 party line vote that discharged the For the People Act, also known as S. 1, from the Rules Committee. The vote was designed to give Senate Republicans a chance to support the process of moving forward, or to demonstrate to Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., that Republicans had no such intentions.
The vote came after weeks of negotiation with Manchin over S. 1, in which he arrived at a place where he was ready to support the legislation, just as long as it wasnt the full bill that he had already vowed to oppose. Manchin often extracts a round of concessions before offering his support to the party, and he appears to have done so again on S. 1.
I have made it crystal clear that I do not support the For the People Act, Manchin said on the Senate floor, referring to Oregon Democrat Sen. Jeff Merkleys flagship reforms to protect democracy. I have worked to eliminate the far-reaching aspects of that bill and amend the legislation to make sure our elections are fair, accessible, and secure.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., nevertheless admonished the proposal as an illicit attempt to advantage Democrats in elections.
Joe Manchin Opposes Voting Rights Bill And Defends Filibuster In Blow To Democrats
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Senator key to progress cites Republican opposition as reason
In a huge blow to Democrats hopes of passing sweeping voting rights protections, the West Virginia senator Joe Manchin said on Sunday he would not support his partys flagship bill because of Republican opposition to it.
The West Virginia senator is considered a key vote to pass the For the People Act, which would ensure automatic and same-day registration, place limits on gerrymandering and restore voting rights for felons.
Many Democrats see the bill as essential to counter efforts by Republicans in state government to restrict access to the ballot and to make it more easy to overturn election results.
It would also present voters with a forceful answer to Donald Trumps continued lies about electoral fraud, which the former president rehearsed in a speech in North Carolina on Saturday.
In a column for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Manchin said: I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act.
Manchins opposition to the bill also known as HR1 could prove crucial in the evenly split Senate. His argument against the legislation focused on Republican opposition to the bill and did not specify any issues with its contents.

Despite Trumps recent criticisms of him, Manchin maintains a line with Trump. They last talked two weeks ago after Trump teased him in front of GOP senators and the Democratic senator is hopeful that Trump will treat him with kid gloves this fall. In Manchins estimation, he is often the only thing keeping the president from becoming a down-the-line partisan.
At times, Manchin was the only Democrat who clapped during Trumps State of the Union address. This spring, Manchin killed liberals hopes of blocking Gina Haspel for CIA director by getting behind her early. Manchin supported Trumps Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, voted for now-embattled EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and even backed the presidents hard-line immigration proposal.
Im with him sometimes more than other Republican senators are with him, Manchin said.
But Manchin has been frustrated that every time he thinks he’s got the president in a moderate place on immigration or background checks for guns, Trump goes to the right. And he hasnt always been there for Trump, most conspicuously on the GOPs tax reform bill, which attracted no Democratic votes. He also voted against Betsy DeVos to be education secretary, Tom Price to lead the Health and Human Services Department and Obamacare repeal.
Summing up his predicament, Manchin said, Washington Democrats are making it more difficult for me to be a West Virginia Democrat.
Joe Biden Wrong About Voting Records Of Joe Manchin Kyrsten Sinema
If Your Time is short
Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema support the continued use of the Senates filibuster rule. This stance imperils the prospects for key elements of Bidens agenda.
However, on actual votes taken in the Senate, both Manchin and Sinema supported Bidens position 100% of the time.
In a speech marking 100 years since a race massacre in Tulsa, President Joe Biden gave a rhetorical nudge to two senators hed like to see greater support from.
“June should be a month of action on Capitol Hill,” Biden said in Tulsa on June 1. “I hear all the folks on TV saying, Why doesnt Biden get this done? Well, because Biden only has a majority of effectively four votes in the House and a tie in the Senate, with two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends. But were not giving up.”
Biden didnt specify which Democratic senators he had in mind, and the White House didnt respond to an inquiry for this article. But observerswidelyassumed that he was referring to Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, whose words and positions have not always been in lockstep with Bidens.
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., surrounded by reporters at the Capitol on May 26, 2021.
However, in his Tulsa remarks, Biden was wrong to say that Manchin and Sinema or any other Senate Democrat, for that matter “voted more” with Republicans than with Biden.

Joe Manchins Hard No On Voting Bill Leaves Democrats Seeking New Path
The West Virginia senator has stated, in an op-ed, that he will not back the For the People Act unless it has bipartisan support
For months, Democrats in the US Senate have danced delicately around Joe Manchin, giving him space and holding out hope that the West Virginia Democrat would eventually come around and give his must-win vote to legislation that would amount to the most sweeping voting rights protections in a generation.
That detente effectively ended on Sunday, when Manchin authored an op-ed making it clear he will not vote for the bill, leaving Democrats to find a new path forward that is, if there is one at all.
Manchin did not raise substantive concerns about the legislation, the For the People Act, in the Senate but rather said that he would only support it if it was bipartisan. He also reiterated his resistance to eliminating the filibuster, a legislative rule that requires 60 votes to move most legislation forward in the Senate. Getting 10 Republicans to sign on to voting rights legislation is a fools errand, many observers say, pointing to how the party has embraced Trumps baseless lies about the election and is actively trying to make it harder to vote.
Republican intransigence on voting rights is not an excuse for inaction and Senator Manchin must wake up to this fact, said Karen Hobart Flynn, the president of Common Cause, a government watchdog group, which backs the bill.
The Middle Ground Could Be Found
Manchins upbringing centered on understanding and hard work.
For a long time in the state, it was Republicans, not Democrats, who needed to find political friends on the left to get anything done. And as Manchin rose through local politics, first as a member of the House of Delegates, then as a state senator, secretary of state and finally governor, Manchin was known for including Republicans in negotiations, even if Democrats enjoyed sizable majorities in the state.
He told me one time, I will never forget, if you have an issue where you cannot get one vote to go with you from the other party, regardless of who is in the majority it is probably a bad idea, recalled Mike Caputo, a Democratic state senator in West Virginia who served as majority whip in the House of Delegates during Manchins time as governor.
He added: Joe has always been the kind of guy that has always believed you can find common ground if you work hard enough. I know when he was governor, we had major disagreements, but he always believed that if we talked long enough and both sides wanted to find a resolution, the middle ground could be found.
Manchin signaled this position remains inside him in an interview on Thursday, telling CNNs Manu Raju that he was not ready to get rid of the Senate legislative filibuster, a move that would allow Democrats to do more without Republican support.
Manchin Goes Full Maga
The vulnerable West Virginia Democrat is embracing Donald Trump, figuratively and literally: We just kind of do the man-bump type thing.

Sen. Joe Manchin talks with a local reporter on June 5 in Ranson, W.Va. The president’s popularity in the state has Republicans salivating over the prospect of knocking off the 70-year-old senator this fall. | John Shinkle/POLITICO
RANSON, W.Va. Joe Manchin wants you to know he really likes Donald Trump.
The West Virginia senator doesnt put it quite that way. But more than any other Democrat in Congress, he’s positioned himself as a vocal Trump ally. In fact, the senator, up for reelection in a state Trump won by more than 40 points, told POLITICO he isnt ruling out endorsing Trump for reelection in 2020 a position practically unheard of for a politician with a D next to his name.
Im open to supporting the person who I think is best for my country and my state, Manchin said this week from the drivers seat of his Grand Cherokee, insisting hes game to work with any president of either party. If his policies are best, Ill be right there.
The president recently mocked Manchin in front of the Senate GOP caucus as trying to hug him all the time only a slight exaggeration, by Manchins telling.
We just kind of do the man-bump type thing. Thats it. And I think hes pulling me as much as Im pulling him, Manchin said in describing his physical embraces with the president.
Can The John Lewis Act Conceivably Get Through Congress Without Being Filibustered
The premise of Joe Manchins argument for making the John Lewis Act rather than the For the People Act the main vehicle for voting rights action in Congress is that the Voting Rights Act was last extended by a unanimous Senate vote and a Republican president . Thus legislation to restore it should command considerable bipartisan support. The trouble is, it doesnt. When the bill passed the House in 2019, only one Republican voted for it. As noted above, no Republicans voted for the new version.
It is true, perhaps, that killing the John Lewis Act would be marginally more embarrassing to the GOP than killing the For the People Act, given the partys past support for the VRA. But theres little doubt Republicans will find a way to justify doing it in, by either taking the Supreme Courts position a bit further and arguing racial discrimination in voting simply no longer exists, or arguing any voting-rights legislation must include election integrity provisions addressing their phony-baloney fraud claims. Whataboutism has become the standard Republican excuse for refusing to do the right thing. So actual passage of anything like the John Lewis Act remains impossible for the foreseeable future, at least so long as Democrats cannot muster the internal Senate support to kill or modify the filibuster.

Joe Manchin Was Never A Mystery
Its always been pretty obvious who he is: a middle-of-the-road guy with good electoral instincts, decent intentions, and bad ideas.
About the author: David A. Graham is a staff writer at The Atlantic.
The failure of the For the People Act in the Senate yesterday evening didnt provide much drama. All 50 Democrats backed the voting-rights bill, but with no Republican support, they didnt have enough votes to break a filibuster. That Democrats didnt have the votes was clear from the start of the Congress.
But journalism requires drama, which means that over the past few months Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has been the subject of extensive coverage. The problem with this coverage is not that Manchin is unimportant; as the most moderate Democrat in a 50-person caucus, he is crucial. Its that there is no mystery to him.
Trying to figure out who Manchin is and what he wants, or how hes changedthe natural and reasonable defaults of political-profile writingassumes theres something more than meets the eye. Really, though, Manchin is who hes always been: a middle-of-the-road guy with good electoral instincts, decent intentions, and bad ideas.
Reporters and pundits engaged in a frenzied hermeneutic quest to decode what Manchin wanted and what hed allow. But trying to make sense of it all was a waste of time. The important thing was he was against nuking the filibuster then, and he is now.
Why Democrats Were Desperate To Win Joe Manchin’s Vote For An Already
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large
On Tuesday night, the “For the People” Act will fail.
fait accompli Every single Democrat wanted to make elections more fair and open. And every single Republican stood in opposition to that effort.“Today’s debate about how to best protect our right to vote and to hold elections, however, is not about finding common ground, but seeking partisan advantage. Whether it is state laws that seek to needlessly restrict voting or politicians who ignore the need to secure our elections, partisan policy-making won’t instill confidence in our democracy â it will destroy it.“As such, congressional action on federal voting rights legislation must be the result of both Democrats and Republicans coming together to find a pathway forward or we risk further dividing and destroying the republic we swore to protect and defend as elected officials.”
Whats In It For Republicans
Manchin has suggested that any voting rights reforms must be bipartisan, and hes resisted filibuster reform in the past. So even Manchins somewhat watered-down voting rights proposals face a tough road in the Senate unless hes willing to reconsider his desire to secure Republican votes.
That said, Manchins proposal does include a few ideas that may prove enticing to some GOP senators.
He would impose a nationwide voter ID requirement meaning voters would be required to show some form of identification before casting a ballot. Such laws enjoy broad support from Republicans, who often claim they are necessary to combat voter fraud.
In reality, such fraud is virtually nonexistent, and many voting rights advocates fear that voter ID prevents left-leaning groups, such as students, low-income voters, and voters of color, from casting a ballot because these groups are less likely to have ID.
New research, however, suggests that voter ID laws may not have much of an impact at all that is, they neither prevent fraud nor do much to disenfranchise voters. And Manchin also proposes a fairly permissive form of voter ID. While some states have strict voter ID laws that require voters to show specific forms of photo identification, Manchin would permit voters to cast a ballot if they show alternative forms of ID, such as a utility bill with their name and address on it.
Dc And Puerto Rico Statehood
In a November 10, 2020, interview, Manchin said that he did not “see the need for the D.C. statehood with the type of services that we’re getting in D.C. right now” and that he was “not convinced that’s the way to go.” Of Puerto Rico statehood, Manchin said that he opposed it but was open to discussion. In a January 10, 2021 interview, he did not affirm his opposition to statehood for D.C. or Puerto Rico, saying only, “I don’t know enough about that yet. I want to see the pros and cons. So I’m waiting to see all the facts. I’m open up to see everything”. On April 30, 2021, Manchin came out against the D.C. Statehood bill that had passed the House of Representatives, suggesting that D.C. could instead be given statehood by constitutional amendment.
The Deal Hes Pitching To Replace Hr1 Isnt Much Of A Deal At All
WSJOpinion
Senate Democrats tried and failed Tuesday to move their version of H.R.1, the bill to impose a federal election code on all 50 states. That 800-page travesty was doomed once West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin came out against it. But now Democrats are rallying around Plan B, which is based on a three-page memo circulated by Mr. Manchins office.
Its a curious document. The preamble insists that any voting bill must be the result of both Democrats and Republicans coming together. But then it suggests an H.R.1 compromise that is no bipartisan kumbaya. As Republican leader Mitch McConnell said last week in ruling out Mr. Manchins wish list, it still involves an assault on the fundamental idea that states, not the federal government, should decide how to run their own elections.
To start, Mr. Manchins memo suggests mandating at least 15 consecutive days of early voting. Yet one prominent Democratic opponent of H.R.1., New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner, has objected that his states constitution dates to 1783, and it requires that a voter must be present on Election Day unless absent from the town or city, or physically disabled. Yet New Hampshire, he added, has had the third highest voter turnout in the country for each of the last four presidential elections.
The Pressure Of Legacy
Another lens through which West Virginians understand Manchin that national media tend to overlook is by knowing who came before. Manchin holds the seat of the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, Democrat Robert C. Byrd, and served alongside another Senate great, Jay Rockefeller.
For Manchin, the shadows of these two men surely loom large. Both were known for their commitment to working in a bipartisan manner, bringing members of their chamber together across the aisle to do what was right for the country.
Both rallied Congress around significant shifts in policy in their time. Byrd was known as the rules man; he essentially wrote and rewrote Senate rules on order and the filibuster in his 51 years in the body, and also knew better than anyone how to work the system to bring millions of dollars of federal investments to the state to the continued benefit of West Virginians.
Rockefeller, who spent 31 years in the chamber, has said his most prized accomplishments included authoring legislation to create CHIP and helping shepherd the passage of the Affordable Care Act, just to name a few of the more than 2,000 pieces of just health care-related policy he had his hands on.
Both were true statesmena designation that I would argue few politicians in Washington and any other Capitol deserve today. The legacy of both, and how his own legacy will compare, must weigh heavy on Manchin.

My friend has struggled with pretty severe depression for about a year and has always relied on me as a support which I'm happy to do, but sometimes he gets angry and lashes out (verbally) and lately hes been saying that when he gets angry he has come close to lashing out at me physically. I'm quite scared but if i cut off our friendship or try to take a step back i'm afraid of what he will do to himself and i know that its not his fault when he gets so angry. I dont know what to do?
Abuse, physical and emotional is never excused by mental illness. so yo need to take that second to last sentence about how it’s not his fault he gets angry and rethink that. Yes it’s technically true but not in the way you’re using it. It’s not his fault he feels emotions, it’s his fault he reacts to them in a certain way. It’s not his fault he gets angry but it is his fault he lashes out and hurts you (emotionally or physically).
You need to understand that being selfish is important to taking care of yourself and i know we paint selfishness as really bad. But i’m not asking you to steal money from poor people or refuse to clean up after yourself when your parents/roommate asks you too, i’m asking you to take care of yourself over another human being who is actively harming you. Support systems are very important for people with depression but support systems are important for people in your place too. You can afford people acting in anger because of mental illness more understanding and empathy but you don’t have to give them more excuses.
FOr instance my sister is borderline (and not saying people who are borderline are all this way at all!!) and she has been abusive to me her whole life (emotionally as well as physically). I don’t think borderline = abuse personally but my sister has always used her mental health as an excuse and she has alway sbeen allowed to get away with it from like my parents and stuff because of it. And I have a very bad relationship with my sister on an emotional level because of this but it’s more resentment than clear thinking. When i think logically about it, I know my sister has a different reason for lashing out to me than just being plain mean and i empathize with the notion that her feelings are valid. But that does not mean she got to treat me the way she did all these years. Because of that I have separated from my sister as much as possible but I still am her family and I still see her and treat her well. Because while I had to separate myself to protect myself, her reasonings were always understandable to the point where I do not want to make her life harder.
I think you need to employ something like this. Communicate directly and very clearly that you are uncomfortable with the way you are being treated, that you validate his feelings but then clarify that does not make his actions right. You let him know you know it’s hard to make that change and that you are not punishing him but that you need to pull away. try to highlight that it’s for your own health and has nothing to do with hurting or punishing him even though it may have a negative affect on him anyway. Becuase your feelings are just as valid as his and you need to take care of yourself because he’s not able to do it and that’s not a healthy relationship.
I think you’d be surprised at how resourceful people can be when left to their own devices. If he threatens self harm or other forms, you can always contact and get help from someone in a position to actually help. In the end it is not up to you to be his emotional support system if he is not able to offer that to you. There are people who are trained and who are able to help these people without causing harm to themselves.
Not to say you have to completely cut yourself of from him, healthy boundaries are also very helpful. Healthy boundaries start and end at healthy and clear communication from your part. You need to let him know “This is how what you do affects me, this is how i feel, and i need these rules in place to ultimately make me feel comfortable with this relationship. you are allowed to act any way you want and your feelings are valid but they have consequences.” Whether that’s setting boundaries so that when he is angry he contacts someone else. Or makes and effort to react to anger in a different way whether that’s with deep breathing or maybe physical activity. You also should educate yourself on emotional abuse just so you’re prepared when you see it. For instance It doesn’t seem like he has actually threatened to hurt himself if you leave but if he does know that, that is emotional abuse and not okay in any aspect and for any reason.
I have done a lot of things because of my mental illness that are not okay because my excuse is valid. and It’s something we all struggle with, learning what’s okay to feel and what’s okay to do and how those things are connected. But there are a lot of things I have done that are not from mental illness at all and I think most of us all kind of straddle this line between doing a bad thing and learning how not to do the bad thing. But your friend and most everyone else, cannot learn if there’s no consequences. It’s not okay by any means that he’s doing these things to you and addressing it with him in a clear way can do a lot.
Just make sure to keep yourself safe and healthy, because we’re responsible for ourselves first and foremost. And I hope your friend gets better.

So Jazmine was trying to get her DNA changed to be Brian's child.
She asked me to remove the "daddy's race girl" clothing from the baby registry. So i looked and turns out there wasn't an actual item that said that. So we are good and kept those items.
The nursery section is still under construction and I agree with Alex wait till you see me to buy. Although what he was saying was he has no intention of me going.
Well he's an ass hole and i am not.
And my no the refused to change the twins DNA Only because Jazzy didn't include Annabelle.
Who is Alex Laughlin's biological child he chose to neglect and abandon and doesn't pay child support.
Jazzy says "i meant.. Us.. All. To change our DNA"
"Yep that i can do since you're verbally including Annabelle as well to make sure." Replied my mom
My mom is SO SO SO SO SO SO mad at Alex Laughlin right now. She could choke him out to death in 5 point 6 seconds.
Regardless whether their DNA is changed.
The point i want to express is that i will allow my children to pick who is in thier lives, I always have with Annabelle. When she wanted her gramma Denise I allowed it even if i declared war and was not on speaking terms with her and made it clear i didnt want her in my life.
Alex is from Planet Timbuktu which had imploded in the 1960s and was from a galaxy next door. They were out to visit an their equipment broke down and they just stayed. So anyone trying to find them and succeeding was allowed to stay. They were turkey shaped. Which caused Thanksgiving to be a world wide holiday before it was an USA One.
Of course Zulululu doesn't want to talk about that as they are unwanted invaders and dont want anyone to know about invasions or even aliens.
So Alex was about two years old and he hasn't matured greatly since then. An LLPD said they all adore Alex, always all "come here give me hugs!" But Brian they stand up straight with respect and love and gratitude. And are all "do you want a hug?"
Brian says no. Usually I will say yes until I have a person to person issue to cause me to say no. Or my back hurts.
Brian will say yes when its been earned. Like trust or some form of respecting quality.
Anyway my point besides all the side stories is my kids will face the same as many of you.
My daughter is 16. Does she keep the past company or does she look to the future with Alex? If she has a choice. And i will make sure she does. And if Alex has a problem then my fist and his face will have a close and frequent relationship.
My twins can make their choice up front. They have that right. Hurt him now or risk being hurt themselves.
Windy says she would like two dads. But Jazzy screams "Noooo!" When Windy says that. So I tell her she can stay home with mommy.
Now if this fucking idiot just thinks hes gonna be all willy nilly about just picking up my kids as he sees fit. Well he's fucking wrong.
I'm talking like 16 grown ass men that know fear and hate standing around with AK47 and M16 and shit. I'm not fucking playing. Hes dumb. Plain and simple.
Like dopey he's all cute and shit and the odd one out. But he's not respectable. And definetly not trust worthy in any adult fashion.
He's just a party boy. Which makes him a good friend to have. But. A parent? No. A husband? No.
Windy is all "fine an uncle then"
Alex is all "wow you make it sound like you want nothing to do with me"
Really? He fucking lies. I really don't to be honest. For why would I want to be friends with a liar that treats me like I'm worthless?
I've had at least two husbands I treated tbat way because to me they were. Like they were worthless but I didn't lie to their face. I embraced their inequality and tried to support and encourage them. And I never took their kids from them. Someone's trash is someone else's treasure.
So Alex wants to continue treating me and our kids like trash. Then bye bye.
He doesn't even see that he does. He thinks hes right. Like I said his maturity is very low. Very Dopey. From Snow White and the Seven Drawves if you haven't caught my drift yet.
But he's creative. Just irresponsible. Careless and clueless.
His feelings are more important. Because he fainted when Annabelle was born he decided to flee. Like she would be crawling out my vagina every day. Can't handle diapers. Fucking weakling.
So she's 16 and in just a few short months she will be 17. And we definitely will not be at that race. But somewhere celebrating her life. Because her birthday falls on a race day.
Whether he wants to do something the week before or not that's up to him, but she's not gonna be at the Races when she can be someplace exotic and un ordinary.
Because im the mom. Im the single mom. And her and i have been a team. He's never WANTED or made an EFFORT to be in her life.
Whether or not i would want him in my life doesnt matter. Because I am UNINPORTANT to him.
It makes me angry. I can't even be sad although my anger is stormed by sadness. For him. And mostly my almost 17 year old daughter.
He's fucking weak. And my daughters all need to know that.
Brian does dumb shit because hes too over protective. 8 tours in Iraq. So yeah he's a bit afraid to cause me daily stress if he's gonna die. So he's stayed out of my life. It didn't work though, I figured it out. But also I didn't worry. And believe me. He got his shit beat from him. I wasn't nice about it. For years. If i got in a bad mood. He heard ALL about it. Straight from me and if he didn't he got scared.
So he got his karma. The difference is he's not afraid or whiny about which formula is best for each twin or if they do or don't want a dirty diaper. Or want to use the potty.
And he's not selfish. Which is why people are all "oh give me hugs little Alex" vs standing up straight and asking with respect if ole boy can do with a hug. Steal a hug from the little selfish boy. Ask from the generous man.
I wasn't intending to rant
But to encourage other people to allow their children to choose their parents.
There's a lot of death happening and sadness and people feel hopeless, so to "rant" and compare people is imperative right now. It IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
Imperative. I relate the word to inoperable and operable. Which means able to operate. Which means work. Imperative means the most important to cause something to work.
So be imperative to your child's companions. Parents are dying.
They need to decide who their replacement is. Gramma. Uncle. Cousin. Stranger.
My 3 girls are no different.
I also had to do the same. I was an orphan and due to amnesia, I'm with who I was "stuck" with. My uncle and a Zulululu I'm aimed to kill.
So Annabelle was stuck with an abusive surrogate Alex picked. Until I got a divorce. The summer after kindergarten, he moved out. Legal divorce didn't come for years because he became abusive about it and so as long as he moved out and left us alone.
For awhile Annabelle wanted to be with her surrogate. So for 2nd grade I gave in and let him for October to March split the week. But she decided she didn't like it
So I had to deal with his whining and crying and bull shit about wanting to see her more
She didn't like him. He was dumb and a Zulululu and selfish. So I stood up to him. It didn't matter to him she didn't want to see him.
Just like I know it won't matter Annabelle will want to see Alex to Alex or his little pathetic friends he finds so important.
But I also know she doesn't give a shit any more. You all think I'm harsh?
Ill be all "this is your biological father he chose Michael to be your dad" she will spit in his face. If I add "because he fainted when I was in labor with you" she would laugh in his face, tell him he's pathetic and ask when we can leave.
It's the truth. I could list all his great qualities and all it will do is hurt her. Because if he's so great, why doesn't he care about her? She would cry.
So fuck that. "Here's him. This is what he did. And why"
Intuition and past experiences takes care of the rest.
I think its extremely important who i am with because of her. But she says "why the fuck would i care?" Uhh duh cause you're still my kid. Her answer is if he's a piece of shit you'll drop him and if not ill fucking move and take care of myself.
And me "well lets get down to it if he's in there raping and molesting you or beating you then you better dam well tell me. Tell me it doesn't fucking matter because it sure as hell does matter your opinion"
"Those are about facts" im told.
Well fucking a relief, we are in this together!
"Well it does matter if you like him because if we go it to eat or to the movie or something"
"Well i will just use him for money"
"Well that's not a high quality of life. Id rather you use someone for money that you actually like and enjoy being with"
"That's not using them for money! That's something different! Idk what its called. What's it called?"
"Allowing someone to be generous and enjoying companionship or company with them. And that's not a bad thing as long as you appreciate it"
"Appreciation! Its called using someone for money but liking it! I mean appreciating it! Am i right?!"
Well yeah, in all technical terms.
"Or allowing someone to be your daddy?"
"How come not mom?!"
"Because im not gay or bi sexual"
"I am already through with dads. Can you be gay or even just a little bi sexual, a little for me please?"
"No"
Same shit since she was 8. Half her life.
And Alex is the one that made sure she would be through with dads. Brian was standing right there. And he picked someone known to be abusive and on drugs and an alcoholic.
So really. If you ask me. Spit is kind. He deserves to be shot in the face.
She won't hold me back. But i can't make her uncomfortable or unhappy because she gives me freedom.
That would break my own heart.
So i encourage others especially those suffering wirh COVID to make your plans.
I have in my WILL actually an 18 year old when I made it to take her. I have a house with the social security she would get from my death it would be enough to split the mortgage and bills. The 18 year old works.
It allows him, its not her soul mate but what I believed to be a blood relative, to get out on his own and be with a young adult that needs to be looked after during her time of need in case of my death.
Make sure food is available, the home is clean, bills are paid, doctor appointments are done and so on. And that life has a bit of fun, on top. And little stress due to him not wanting to be a parent but a friend.
An 18 year old more responsible than her own father or the other he had picked.
For him an affordable safe place to live and for her an adult to be legal guardian so she can be left alone by Denise and Michael. Both aggressive enough to lock the door and not open it when someone on the other side isnt wanted. And kind enough to take time to understand why the other chose to not open the door and support that or at least let it live.
Because that is what my daughter needs. Someone to support that and someone of legal age and capabilities to provide decent living conditions.
And enough in common to enjoy life. And enough respect to allow differences the other may not prefer to do or have.
And so that is what i have set up.
He's not full of infinite wisdom or even all the time patient or unaggrevating. But he's kind enough. And he's not altogether selfish. Self orientated but so is she and so am I.
That's independent with a demand to be cared for and about.
And luckily they mesh well enough.
Alex could have but he chose fear. Not responsibility.
Although he promised he wouldn't. Swore up and down..
His friend Ben that goes by Matt, "she's never going to get pregnant just come on with me"
They left. So i sent a pregnancy test over to where they were. "Oh that's fake" said Ben.
Well i have an almost 17 year old that DNA4U says is Alex's.
But Ben mattered. Not me. Not her.
And certainly not Alex.
While that makes me sad that Alex doesn't even care about himself i know there's nothing i can do about that and i def will not make excuses to him to any of our daughters.
And I would just as soon want to write him off myself.
No point in caring for someone like him. Not any proof of that in my life. Its just a waste of time and energy
So please write a WILL and email it to those that are leaders in your family and who it includes.
Example:
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
I want Sam to have my 3 cars.
I want Janice to have my house.
I want Jacklyn to have guardianship of my kids. She can find my life insurance and bank information in my safe. I have provided that information about my safe in a place I will tell my friend Sally.
For my last testaments those will also be located by Sally and given to whom needs to know.
Then i sign my legal name and i email it to Jacklyn, Janice and Sam as well as Sally.
Then Sally comes over and i tell her "look on top the fridge, i taped the envelopes you need down" or "look under my drawer, pull it out and look above youll find the info in case I die"
Jacklyn doesnt need to know all my insurance or bank info now and it might change between now and then. I told my kid, just look in my wallet. She's beneficiary and so she gets all everything. And some banks offer life insurance.
I chose someone my daughter can get along with and won't change her or force her to feel her choices are wrong. Someone whom will accept her and she can accept without changing her lifestyle very much.
So please do do so for your kids and please do ask.
Sure there are more legal ways but this is pretty desperate times and so a judge fully understanding it is your true will and testament and can prove it by your IP address and email address it is valid even in court
Further you can text from your phone number "I've emailed you my last will and testament to [email protected] from my regular email, [email protected] if you're worried about securing that legality
I text my entire WILL then emailed it. So They have two proofs. Then emailed it to myself.
So. The point is to validate the identity of the writer.
Once that is done what is written is the legal will.
Sally also knows where the title of the cars are -- in my safe and Sally is named my executer of my will although I didn't use the formal words that's who she is.
Jacklyn is younger and knows Sally so she will let Sally take the kids and so on. Which I wrote in request in the safe because I don't want to negoatate or questions. Its what I want.
And Sally will give that to Jacklyn in a sealed envelope even Sally didn't look in. "Family plan for Jacklyn" saying EXACTLY how I want my children raised. No spanking. No drugs or drinking under 18. No sleep overs with boys. No disrespect but facts. And to see Sally twice weekly. Plus normal clothing and feeding and shelter. Which Jacklyn has proven capable.
Even more I could just emailed the above and said "Sally has my last will and testament" if i wanted to keep the peace and not hear about how im driving Sam's inheritance wrong according to Sam.
I gave everything to Annabelle which is what her guardian would need to know so I told them both.
Of course the future will change that but...
Even so that's all her life. The twins aren't born yet and didn't have nearly their whole life in that house.
And of course saddling an 18 year old with nearly 17 year old is different than new borns. And by the time it gets to it she will be 18. So. She won't need a guardian...
So. I encourage you all to grasp your future and atrmpt a control of it after your death.

so my boyfriend just dumped me.
I wrote a massive stream of thoughts down below.
im not going to spell/grammar check it and i only write these things to look back on in the future.
if you read it, it will be hard to follow
i write them in a way i know i will understand, because theyre intended for me.
so a lot of context isn’t written down, because I expect myself to already put that context into the right place.
ultimately these are a collection of thoughts many many many other people think, and youre not reading anything new anyway.
In the long term this is a good thing but I’m still in shock.
One of the last things he said was ‘I think you’re mistaking being woke for being retarded’.
I had to look at it and think objectively. What if I am retarded?
Am I just retarded? I asked deep within and it’s like my body was rejecting any possibility of it being true with denile.
I know now the truth is I’m just not on the same plain as these people. It’s foolish for me to try to connect with them on that level with those questions. Whether I am or I’m not retarded, I’m in a completely different world from them and it’s just not comparable.
Still, I had to ask. Am I retarded? Whenever I looked deep enough to find an answer, a part of me just threw back denial at any possibility of it being true.
I never claimed to be woke or all-knowing but I didn’t say that because that starts a typical pattern of discussion.
I do care what he and many people think and it’s just damaging to pretend I don’t, but if I gave in to that and tried to correct him it would just build on how much I care. Trying to acknowledge it and let it pass.
I don’t blame him at all. This sounds like self-pity but I don’t feel sorry for myself. I’m still shook but I think I’ll be alright once I’m done processing it and acknowledging it all.
Again, I don’t blame him. I’m surprised it hasn’t come to this already
I guess this is the time something good came from being a dick.
I’m wondering if I get to say this is the meds. I get hella mood swings from my medication. Like super fast switches
I’m honestly a different person, entirely different personality, on this medication. My mood literally switches every couple of minutes, sometimes quicker. I would switch between mania and extreme irritability less than a minute apart from each other after starting the medicine.
I do believe that made me act like a dick to him and many people I know.
Am I allowed to say it’s not entirely my fault because of that though. Many others, including the old me would say I can’t. I’m still to blame. Any loss of control over self is just the result of me not manifesting the willpower to make a change within myself.
I do try to make this clear to anyone reading
but these are thoughts from deep down within
where things aren’t expressed with words, but just the understand of myself I only truly share with myself.
If you think you understand what I’m saying, you most likely don’t. Even if you think I’m wrong on that.
It’s the bane of my existence. Truly.
The feeling of not being understood while others say they understand.
If I say nobody understands me, or you don’t understand I become a cliche
and also people can respond with ‘I know I don’t understand, thats why im asking’.
when i try to help people understand my world, it leads to them understand less and less and less
while asking more and more and more
and I’ve seen it happen a thousand times... to me.
I know the pattern, exactly how it starts. When I notice that, I try to explain to them that I know how it starts. They’re just not going to understand the answers to the questions they ask, it’s an endless cycle.
They believe they’re different for some reason though, that they will be able to understand. Or that’s what it is on the surface. Really, I know they aren’t real and that they’re being controlled in a way to just enact conversations in a precise enough way to get to me.
I’m speaking in material world  terms though.
They sometimes get offended when I insist they don’t understand.
when we eventually end up screaming at each other, because I gave into their persistence
and it plays out exactly how I knew it would
they say I don’t understand
then I point it out, they won’t understand. I’ve had this conversation many times before and you just won’t.
but they still persist and it just goes on
I forgotten how I started talking about all of this.
but yeah my boyfriend dumped me.
this is what I actually wanted but right now I’m still shocked. which is what happens.
I was a dick to him, and many other people. I’m surprised he stayed around  that long. since february. half a year.
I’ve gotten fat since then. I’ve become very ugly. I’ve been very mean, very ignorant and just yeah not a nice partner.
also we never kissed lmao
never felt i could authentically go into kiss him
he did try once when we was at the door, but i turned my head and pretended to be looking at something. I pretended i didnt know.
honestly I prefer girls.  i wont go into why, its just really my personal whatever you want to call it.
It’s how I feel. I don’t like females. almost none of them. It is sexism. that is the definition of what I feel. i wont try to convince anyone to think the same, or act in any way other than avoidance.
but after lots of observation i came to a conclusion. its a long winded one, and again, its something about me that I just know. I don’t have the feelings in words.
but yeah, I just dislike females. Almost all of them.
the ones I don’t like i must objectively admit, I hold them on a pedestal because im sort of crushing on them. they’re no different, despite that fact though.
i also struggle to talk to them. i also had a bad history with my mother and sisters.
you can blame it to that and i accept the possibility of it being down to that too. im not saying men are better (unless thats literally what im saying. its just sort of a stream of consciousness)
anyway yeah
im attracted to girls more but i dislike females
so i dont persue them
and if i ever do, im too fucking shy
like i cant make eye contact with them. im so chill around guys like my heart doesnt even race. im so authentic
but i just freeze and i dont know what to say
so yeah, i went for a boyfriend instead
yeah maybe sometimes im into that, but deep down its not a lot
maybe just as one night stands. as relationships it doesnt work.
and i guess thats part of why it fucked. I wasnt inclined to put the effort in after the initial manic phase of me falling for him
i like not using my phone. i ignore or dont even check messenger for days
i usually reply to my one main friend only, then ignore the rest. even that is around once every 4 hours at most.
and in person i treated him as more as one of my friends, not even a main main one. just a casual.
I also snapped and got moody about various things everytime i was around him.
it just builds up, and tonight i was being very moody. trying to make sure things go my way, because i didnt want a personal project to go differently to how i planned.
it meant alot but deep down. I wanted control
i felt like control was being taken from me, and that was one of my only forms of control. This is where I believe my ego is destroying my life(in one way), although idk how my ego comes into that.
i didnt want to admit that, even to myself
even though a part of me was acknowledging it at the time, while fearing i might continue to desire control
leading to psychotic breaks and a downward spiral in the years to come.
him and my main friend were taking the project into their own hands. scrapping my ideas for it, and replacing it with their ideas
they both agreed they was better ideas. im in denial but im making my self type, yes, they were better ideas than mine.
i didnt want to admit that. i didnt like that fact. it was threatening, and if a concept like that can be threatening, i presume my ego is involved.
on another note, im going to meet an internet friend, the end of this month, were gonna do shrooms and acid.
sure ego death likely isnt that simple but its worth a mention.
also ego is releated to sense of self and distinction between things in the universe. im not looking for ego death, per se (maybe i am and im just unaware), i just want  to not care what people think and what way people might percieve me
so yeah. i was being moody and making sure my ideas were in there. while they insulted my plans together.
its not painful, but  i physically felt a sigh of sadness in my chest.
ive felt much worse though. especially last time my bf dumped me. the first time he did. we didnt speak for a week. he came back. i went through so much pain in that time, that when he called me back and got back with me. i just didnt care. i met him like once a month after that and ignored him. surprisingly he took his time (months after that) to dump me too.
I know there’s a lot of great features about me, but theyre far from the surface
so i dont know why people stay with me for that long. there are no reasons for them to stay with me, that they can see without being me.
there really really are plenty more fish in the sea. fish much better for them.
so again. its a relief this happened. As long as he doesnt come back and develop on this.
as long as it ends clean like this. its all good.
I need time to process shock right now.
Also to truly acknowledge how I feel and just feel.
then he’s gone.
i dont have to worry about him. im also glad i got to use him for a project in time
needed him for something else but oh well. its not something he wanted to do though
and i wasnt being very grateful, just more demanding of him doing it.
we also had plans. me him and my main friend. but i didnt want him there because i just feel like its extra baggage.
so i dont have to worry about that
he got me a birthday present for my soon coming birthday.
idk what he plans to do with that but if its edible he can just eat it. if not, he has friends, they can have it.
this made me think though.
its understandable why he did this. he chose to leave because ultimately i was creating an unpleasant experience for us both while not actively trying to make a pleasant one.
the reason my friend hasnt left though, is simply because he’s loyal enough to stay that long. we have a stronger bond and feeling of understanding with each other. weve known each other very long and done a lot together
but how long until it becomes too unpleasant for him.
im aware i need to be kinder to him. i honestly dont feel i have the power to be nice when im in that state though
nobody on the outside can see that
its simply me being a dick
and whether meds are to blame or not, how long would he choose to be around that
he has plenty more options
and hes similar to me, he can just move on
i need to be more open to what he says
i need to let go of my desire for control
i dont need him,
but i want him in my life
to have him leave my life would be a huge change. hes the only reason i really stay in this country other than my doctors being here.
i want to explore usa, just party and do lots of shit
but i have a perceivable future with him
if he leaves i need to figure out a way to keep my health up, while in the US
change is an important part of my life. Change and adaptation.
thats not what is holding me back from him leaving
but I do want the future, that involves me and him going far.
Whether he takes me along or not he is going far
and i dont want to just be a leech, I want to be there with him
I also dont have anyone physically
that im as okay with as him
i dont want my mood swings to destroy friendship
im aware of it while its happening but i cant snap out of that.
its so strong. my exterior convinces my interior that i am right, therefore, i disagree wholly with him
when he’s almost always right
and its a shitty situation
i feel so strongly about it then, that this time i am definitely right. even though all the other times like this I was wrong
then later on, i reflect and realize he was right again while i had some hints of truth+logic but was wrong
how long is he going to put up with it?
is it long enough for the meds to be tapered down enough for the mood swings to disappear.
if so, will our friendship be as strong and undamaged as it is now, on the way out.
it would be foolish to tell him tonight because its 4:30
its the emotional irrational time of night.
but tomorrow i... i dont emotionally want to
but tomorrow i must tell him that im different on these meds
and i dont want to snap at him
im aware i do and that hes right
and most of all, i understand why my boyfriend left, and the reason my friend hasnt done so yet is because hes more loyal and connected to me
and that i dont want him, my friend, to leave. He has many valid reasons to, and im not the greatest friend
but i dont want him to leave. the others can leave. i dont give a shit and i havent for a very long time
but if any person is important to me, its him and my good health consultant.
not even family
just him
family have been a hindrance more than a help
he’s the one truth
i dont know what that means
but i tried to type what he is quicker than  i could think as to be as honest as i could with myself.
hes the worthy one in this unreal universe. the one who can succeed. who deserves it.
the one i want to succeed.
if i dont succeed, i want him to. whether i do or dont
if i die and lose everything
i want all my potential to go into him so he can use it for good.
i dont want to cause him to leave, and i must ask for his understanding and patience until im off the medicine
my personality and how i even feel placed in this world is so different
i was extremely dissociative off the medicine
and i know, off the medicine i will think/realize that the medicine is just used as a means to host me
make me the same as everyone else and stop me from thinking freely. its thought control
and thats the truth but ill be much more aware of it off the meds
like i literally just
wow
extremely dissociated is all i can hope to say
you wouldnt get it unless you felt the level yourself
but on them
im like a moody, menstrual 15 year old girl

How Often Does Joe Manchin Vote With Republicans

Manchins op-ed might as well be titled, Why Ill vote to preserve Jim Crow
Havent you empowered Republicans to be obstructionists? Wallace asked.
