Tumgik
#its definitely a reference by disney but also in-universe?????
Note
Ramshackle is such an interesting mystery and it needs to be talked about more.
I know it’s mostly because of narrative/storytelling reasons, but the fact that Ramshackle WASN’T based on a villain even when it was an active dorm and didn’t have a corresponding statue is interesting to me. The Great Seven have always been The Great SEVEN, so it’s safe to say old Ramshackle dorm students never had a cool Disney villain to admire.
Unless Michard M*use is a villain, you know. Ramshackle is the dorm of cap*talism lmao
We know it’s based on the Thru The Mirror short, but in-universe it’s just a bit out of Night Raven College’s standard, it gives an “other” feeling, like Ramshackle was that one dorm that didn’t have enough relevance or just a bit overshadowed by the other dorms from the beginning. Or maybe it was important one day but due to mysterious circumstances nobody remembers it.
Not only that, but it’s the only dorm located on school grounds that doesn’t require access through the mirror chamber. It just feels very… Normal? Like I cannot tell you how Regular Guy this dorm is. Literally just the smallest dorm compared to all the others, too.
Maybe it was Night Raven College’s very first dorm? Maybe the OG Ramshackle students weren’t even magic users, and had other talents? I’ve seen some theories but I hope they expand on Ramshackle lore after episode 7.
Tumblr media
Ramshackle is for sure the "odd one out" of the dorms. As this anon has said, there's various anomalies that separate it from the others (aside from having fallen from grace): it's located on-campus rather than in its own pocket dimension, Ramshackle has no key historical figure or known core value associated with it, the scale of the dorm is much smaller comapared to the other dorms, etc, It really adds to the sense of "not belonging", which is what also makes the dorm such a fitting place for misfits like Yuu and Grim, who aren't your average NRC student.
Pomefiore is said to be the oldest dorm at Night Raven College so by that logic, Ramshackle is definitely NOT the first dorm. This is most likely a reference to how Snow White is the oldest of the films that feature the Great 7, having released in 1937. Hercules, the most recent of the films, came out in 1997, so that perhaps explains why it is the most "modern" and high-tech of the dorms (though we don't know if this one was the newest dorm in the TWST-verse yet). Oddly, the Thru the Mirror short came out in 1936, a year before Snow White, but Pomefiore is still credited as the oldest dorm, not Ramshackle. Perhaps the irl movie release dates don't correlate that strongly with the age and the history of each of the dorms after all? I also believe that NRC has always been an academy to train mages, so they wouldn't allow non-mages to attend (with Yuu being a very rare exception); they wouldn't be able to complete any of the coursework required of them in their later years (Yuu is only able to do so because of their mage partner, Grim).
Hoping we do get to learn more about Ramshackle in the future, whether that's in the current TWST arc or in the next ^^

Ok, every time I watch 'The Great Mouse Detective' my mind clings to this.
Okay, there's nostalgia in this, my childhood and such. But that's not all, there's something 'magnetic' about the character Basil (Sherlock), which I can see why Dawson (Watson) is so impressed on Basil's presence. Basil is so energetic that he should come with a warning on his forehead: "danger 440 Volts".
Tumblr media
This little mousie called Basil is incredible and unbearable at the same time, he is so full of energy that watching him act and talk makes me lose weight just by looking at him. Lmao. The fact is, Basil is very agitated and hyperactive.
Tumblr media
And he's smart in a way that seems mad, especially when he gets an idea in his head and no one is going to stop him from following through. Basil can be harsh and full of himself at times, but he also redeems himself, as he can regret his bad actions seconds later when he realizes he hurt someone's feelings.
He wants interesting and vibrant cases like himself, like his mind is, that's what he likes. But he also hides too well that he knows how to care about people, when he should. Some empathy is in him, although he acts like a hyperactive machine of reasoning and action most of the time, who cannot remember client names or have no time for sentimentality. Lmao.
Tumblr media
He is focused and proactive when his mind is working and everything is going as he wants. And at the same time Basil is a complete Drama Queen when things don't go as he plans. Changing mood so abruptly, from extreme vigor and energy to depression and anguish, that he is insanely exaggerated in 'Holmes' mode. Is fun to me.
Tumblr media
Basil of Baker Street completely steals all the show, being a brilliant and charismatic protagonist
Tumblr media
There is almost no space for Dawson (Watson), whose personality can go unnoticed and those who casually watch it may think that he is just the "fool and comic relief", the movie and fans are so focused on Basil, that we almost don't see how Dawson has so much empathy inside him, and a giant gentle, sympathetic and kind heart.
Dawson is balanced and calm and brings a good counterpoint to Basil's personality. Dawson is so naive, he seems silly in comparison to Basil. But don't be so easily fooled, Dawson can also be direct and angry and put Basil in the right direction, be it with questions, or by grumbling and bothering about how stupid the detective is being, or act sadness about something harsh, said by Basil, and its making the detective regret and be more 'condescending' instantly.
Tumblr media
Dawson has the patience of a saint, an (half) limitless peace in relation to Basil, possibly Dawson is the only mouse who can be in the presence of the mouse detective without being overwhelmed by all of Basil's striking personality. Dawson colludes with Basil, without really being swallowed by him, knowing how to impose himself when he must.
Tumblr media
Dawson makes a perfect pair for Basil, and yet it's barely noticeable, because he's there humbly adjusting Basil to good, but ignores his own participation, giving all the credit to Basil, adoring the 'amazing' Basil. When in fact Dawson also had a lot to do with the case and its good outcome. But Dawson doesn't care and is fine with making Basil proud as the star of the Show and giving him all the credit, and Dawson really thinks Basil deserves it all.
Tumblr media
Basil and Dawson definitely manage to convey the Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson 'vibe' very well, so much so that for me this movie is a good adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes and John Watson universe.
Extra:
1) the 'case', although it is a Disney children's plot, is charming enough and brings good drama, from the beginning with the kidnapping scene to the end with the Big Ben scenes, the case has charismatic characters with whom we import (Olivia and Flaversham) and the film is full of references to the Canonical Sherlock Holmes books and others adaptations, to everyone's delight.
2) Ratigan (Moriarty), madness and dangerous he can be, beneath all the fancy pomp and satin. He kills a drunken accomplice for calling him 'Rat' (in other words, the truth). He tortures his most loyal henchman, Fidget, with his pet torture device (the cat). And he's so falsely polite when he's both blatantly cruel and mad. He is a villain with a lot of charisma, as well as scary
Tumblr media
3) The movie soundtrack is so good. I love it from the 'main title', to the 'end title-credits' (Goodbye So Soon).

Tumblr media
• Pomu in a relationship…
• Pomu is incredibly kind, a huge, huge jokester, but only if you’re comfortable and she knows your boundaries.
•If she accidentally goes too far, you will never hear the end of her apologies, you have to reassure her sm that shes okay :((
• Pomu loves you!! she might not be a big fan of PDA because even though she talks big, shes pretty shy, she wants to show you off she just is too embarrassed to do it herself! if you initiate it, she’ll be happy though <3
• However, when you’re by yourself, she is a huge tease.
• “Are you Mississippi? Cuz youre the only miss who’s piss i sippi ;)”
• Will try to make you cringe on purpose, expect lots of pickup lines
• SHE WANTS TO COLLAB W YOU SM.. fans will already be speculating that you have smth going on because….. she loves collabs, dont get me wrong, but she collabs w you so often!! shes also like 10x more unhinged because i hc that she tends to be a lot more talkative with someone she has feelings for :))
• me personally i see Pomu as more of a best friend, so its kind of hard to write for her but im trying my hardest!!
• she will totally take you to lots of places (disney, universal, tokyo, etc) she wants to show you that shes willing to commit and do anything for you <333
• if you go to Disney, she will definitely make you go to the firework shows and will probably get a picture of the both of you kissing with a heart firework in the bg…
• Overall, Pomu is a soft jokester who wants nothing more than to show you her love. (detect my love who)
Tumblr media
• Shu in a relationship..
• shu is extremely calm, before you guys were dating you genuinely had no clue that he liked you…hes just that good at hiding it.
• the only sign he shows of liking you is that he laughs quite a bit more around you… thats literally it
• HOW WERE YOU SUPPOSED TO KNOW?!
• probably jokes about how oblivious you were to him liking you, knowing full well he showed zero signs
• he doesn’t like taking pictures of himself however he takes so many pictures if the both of you… like thats literally the only thing he has in his camera roll (except for luca’s reference sheet, and the sink png)
• he lets you play with his hair a lot! his hair is do soft, fluffy… oh my god. imagine tying his hair into a ponytail, him praying to god that you dont see the light pink adorning his cheeks.. (you did.)
• you’ll probably convince him to give his fans a tiny bit more fanservice LMAOO (nothing crazy, but you’ll probably trick him into saying something or maybe even doing a handcam??)
• speaking of handcams if he ever does one with you he will force you to complete the heart he makes with his hands.. 🫶
• will send you deez nuts jokes.. or your mom jokes..
• OH MY GOD IF YOU HAVE A GC W HIM, LUCA AND YOU 😭😭 you will never see the end of the jokes.
• he lets you do a bunch of tiktok trends w him.. like the one where you mess up your lipstick and it pans to him with the kisses all over his face USHEISBOWUEBSKS

⚓︎ MASTER POST ⁏ TWST ocs, RSA, +
Bom dia! I realized now that I can pin posts:-) so I’m going to get all the major resources on my world building and the sort out of the way now instead of later. This is a lot of content … I’m so sorry.
★ CONTENTS — reference sheets [14/14], document links [all, though some incomplete], and an explanation of the setting (most) things correspond in. In this order…depending on how tumblr formatting works with me.
🐟⁀ Ref. sheets, ocs.
!! Yes, the proper images are in the documents as well. These are of hard to see, I’m sure. In the documents, there will be proper information on each. I’d share the full references here and now if it weren’t for the image limit on posts! I’m sorry.
Tumblr media
*these are not drawn to height accuracy/scale.
— I think a fun note to add on this as a treat is that not everybody is based on Disney media…I thought that was a little too restrictive since I didn’t grow up on Disney (minus the Nightmare before Christmas), so … hooray!
🐋⁎⁺ Documents.
This section will be pretty straightforward and short, as well.
!! Link → short description of link contents → complete or not.
GENERAL INFORMATION — all character reference sheets, basic info, a master document to take you to anything else if you need. Minor details such as voice claims / themes + coffin / diamond icons can be found here. — TBC
SIGNATURE SPELLS — all signature spells and their uses are here. — TBC
UNIVERSAL INFO — general knowledge and information on the dorms I’ve made for Royal sword Academy will go here. This document is a little bare, though in it you can access the visuals Google slide. — TBC
★bonus : VISUALS — every drawing for the RSA dorms that I’ve done including staff, uniforms, statues, magestone holders, etcetera. This is the furthest from complete out of all of them, and will also likely be the slowest to update. — TBC
🐚┄⵿⃛𐄙⊱ Overview.
So, finally. What is really going on here? I figured I’d save the longest part of the post for last. All in all, this is still Twisted Wonderland as its canon stands, only with more development on RSA. By that I mean these characters coexist at the same time as our canon cast, so..a Pomefiore character of mine like Sergei would never be housewarden or vice for example, since Rook and Vil are the current dorm leads. Contrarily, I’ve been developing dorms and a visual to flesh out Royal sword Academy instead, as a treat. It was so barebones on the bottom of the island that I kind of took a pity towards it, put my hatred towards Neige aside, and started to develop the dorms, etcetera. I’ve had some help from my friends Cater and Azul, and plenty of school friends tend to help with uniform design and feedback / advice, so it’s definitely not a project I work without tips on, though all the art is mine. I don’t think I’d have gotten this far without them.
TLDR; All of my characters exist in the same timeline as the main cast. They don’t necessarily overlap in story much, and I have my own characters lives simply coexisting in the same world, that’s all. I kind of scrapped Neige & Chenya for this … and don’t plan on adding them back … but that’s fine. This is a personal project for myself and my friends that I’ll be slowly chipping at in time, I’m not too sure what else to say about it! I’ll enable questions if anyone has them, but feel free to comment any inquiries as well.
!! EXTRA🫧
— Story wise, settings don’t include much beyond Sages island, minus the dorms (which will be in the visuals link soon). But there is one Fanon town I made, of which a chunk of my characters derive of. I coined it Hallow Village, (or what tourists call Pumpkin Valley), as a blaring nod to TNMBC. You’ll see that a handful of ocs have Hallow Village as their homeland! I’ll have art on it soon. For now, it’s an old village with small town “southern hospitality” of sorts, with a smaller population, though notorious for becoming a tourist sensation during October. Adjacent the true film, the village is run by a mayor (though more so his son…Jack in the film). I like to think the town was once Halloween town, though the monster populous slowly died out as outsiders moved in and carried stigma. Given blot monsters, and the sort. Human + monster tension caused divide until most of all the ghouls themselves left. Modern residents aren’t so proud of that history, and hold a respect towards monsters now. (In other words, Grimm would have a fan club if they were canon). A lot of the residents are equally passionate for Halloween & October since it’s cultural to the town history, so a lot of them end up in Nightingshire if attending RSA. That’s the only outsider location I’ve got! All the actual dorm info is in the documents, I won’t divulge here.
— [ EDITED: 3/27/24 ]
Blot Elassia. / 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘌𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢. As of current, the only oc I have with BE is Sergei. But what is it?
✶ Elassia — noun — “E-LAE-shia” · Specifically in regards to a mages magic pool, something within is functioning below the standard level. (I.e, too slowly).
Hence, Blot Elassia is an uncommon, though genetic disability that results in a mages ability to burn blot being far slower than what is necessary. This slower build and more constant slow-burn results in chest pain and chronic fatigue, which worsens with increased activity and magic use, and will subside with less of the aforementioned instigators. Excessive activity and magic use may hinder those with B.E and leave them physically unable to function as able bodied people would, until their symptoms flaring up manage to subside through proper care and aid. With age, especially, walking / mobility aids are advised for those to preserve their energy. Their bodies are utilizing every bit of the energy they have to burn blot.
Individuals with B.E are more highly susceptible to overblot.
Rest and maintenance of normal needs is helpful, but not a cure. To stop using magic entirely will slow the exhaustion of the mages body extensively, and is commonly recommend for those who decline medical aid. Alternatively, there is medication to help boost the magic pools ability to burn blot (also not a cure). The only known, official “cure,” is surgical treatment to the magic pool. This surgery has a high risk rate, and problems could potentially resurface.
FIN (?)
*(If anything else major gets added that “fin” will be a massive lie and there will be ANOTHER major block of text.)

I've shared my headcannons for individual characters, but not necessarily Toontown itself. So let's rectify that today!
What's up with Toontown
Tumblr media
(Couldn't find a gif of Toontown, so have these cogs that tickled my brain)
How it all started
Over time, Toontown just kept expanding itself. As the fear for toons died down, humans did offer a helping hand by funding construction. Though that was also another way to try to rein the toons in and gain some kind of control over them; by dictating what can or can't be built.
It was founded in 1908, around the time the first cartoon was ever made. Not by humans though, it just... Appeared. No one really knows why it did, nor why it's here in Los Angeles. That, along with the physics and logic toons ran on that went against everything we knew about our universe then, was the first thing that ticked humans off and made them want to control toons (and that's how toon segregation started).
Toontown used to be split up in areas based on the different genres. Such as Fantasy, Horror, Comedy, etc. In these areas, the physics that would apply to that specific genre would be strongest in the areas. For example, Goofy would thrive and be at his best performance in the comedy area, though if he went in the horror part of town, his toon logic would be toned down.
When big name studios like Disney and Warner Bros tarted gaining traction, they wound up becoming some of the biggest funders for toon construction, and thus were able to take large portions of Toontown and create their own 'districts' per sey; having whole streets named after their characters, building whole neighborhoods just for their toons, etc.
So yeah, long story short, humans started seeing Toontown and its residents as property, rather than... You know, people. And why so many people were looking into buying Toontown after Marvin Acme died. It's also why the toons are so worried and grateful for the will since it allowed them to finally have their town back.
I think Toontown itself is... Alive, in a way. I'm not quite sure how to explain it yet, but it's definitely a lot more than just home grounds for the toons.
Uptown
Uptown is, as one expects, where most of the toony shenanigans occur. It's also where all the well off or well known toons are.
Uptown was actually one of the areas that Toontown itself had built, with no interference from the humans. It was mainly where all the shops and businesses were back then though. Some shops have been built Downtown by now, though more often than not toons still have to go Uptown to go to work or shopping.
It is the brightest and most lively in all of town. You can't really go anywhere Uptown without seeing a living building or hearing toons performing their gags. If your a human tourist, it might be best to avoid Uptown unless you have an experienced guide with you.
Uptown doesn't just refer to the city area for the toons. When we see Eddie driving through that forest area when he first enters Toontown is considered a part of Uptown. And that does include other areas too. Uptown for the toons essentially just mean the nicer part of Toontown.
Downtown
You ever heard the song 'Skid Row' from Little Shop of Horrors? That's pretty much how you'd describe Downtown. Where the cabs don't stop, where there's no rules for us, and the rainbow is just a no-show.
Downtown actually used to be a place where the horror toons lived. It was small since horror cartoons weren't so common, but it was home for the horror toons. However, when there was an influx of unwanted toons, the humans just made this place the Downtown area. That's partly why Downtown is far more gloomy and a more serious kind of dangerous compared to the rest of Toontown.
Because of the humans influence and what they want in cartoons, other toons started ostracizing 'bad guy' toons, like weasels and wolves. Not to mention how rough they are drawn to look compared to silly rabbits. As such, Downtown is where you'd find a vast majority of the 'bad' toons.
In my Toon Patrol HC post, I said that the weasels are most prominent Downtown. Smartass started his gang here, and the Toon Patrol out and about around Downtown is not an uncommon sight.
After Doom came into power
Well, the Cloverleaf name started popping up more and more. Not too much where the humans and studios noticed right away, at least not until Cloverleaf started making its presence known in the human side of Los Angeles.
Toons grew more afraid. Especially when the weasels were put in charge. It almost seemed like even Toontown itself was affected by everything going on. Uptown tried to keep cheery, but things just... Weren't the same. When Eddie arrived while chasing after Jessica, all the toons that knew and the town itself literally brightened up with hope.
That's all I've got for now. If you guys have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them ^^
Before Doom made his DIP known to the public, he experimented with it on the residents first. Mainly toons that lived in Downtown, since they wouldn't be missed. There were rumors of some weapon in the making, but neither the humans nor the Uptown folk took it seriously, until it was all finally confirmed.

How much do you believe French fairy tales influenced our modern view of fairy tales?
Because the modern fairy tale is obviously heavily influenced by Disney, but the Disney formula has more in common with the french literary fairy tales than with the Brothers Grimm's work.
Ouch starting with the big questions already X)
But well - I do work at university on French fairytales so these kind of questions are a good training ground.
Now when you say "our modern view", you'd have to be precise. Because the modern view French people have of fairytales for example will obviously be different from the one of Germans or British - due to everyone having their own local tale that influenced their local culture deeply, to the point even Disney can have a hard time cutting into that (mostly because each country still has its own side-productions alongside Disney. Example in hand: in France we have the 40s Beauty and the Beast movie, and the Peau d'Âne/Donkeyskin movie, that are still cultural classics here very well-kown and rivaling the Disney productions ; but in America, they are not as well-known as the Disney movies).
But given the way you phrase the question I guess you refer to the American view of fairytales, which kind of bled/spread over the "Americanized" side of the world, like Europe.
How much has French fairytale influenced Disney is a good starting point. I wouldn't say that Disney has been MORE influenced by French fairytales than the Grimms ones because in truth they stand on equal footing. True, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are more from the French than the German ; but Snow-White is the most German tale you'll have - and even today they have "Tangled" from Rapunzel...
I would say it has a fifty-fifty influence. A mixed bag. And I would say the American perception and "construction" of fairytales is similarly a mixed bag taking from the French and German traditions and mixing the two together. Because to understand the American view of fairytales, one has to remember that the way they received fairytales was through collections that put together French, English, German, Danish fairytales, often stripped of their origins or their authors, and put together on equal footing as one "block". And so... yeah of course the two "biggest" blocks won, French and Germa, but they fused together in such a way...
I mean take in consideration what a "traditional" fairytale is for the American mindset. A tale of prince and princesses - of princesses finding love, of princes rescuing princesses, of grand balls and beautiful castles, etc... While there are some elements of that from German fairytales, the grandiose and splendor of the fairytale royalty comes from the French fairytales. But then another element: witches everywhere, turning people into frogs, offering poisoned apples, building gingerbread houses... That's all from German tales. But then you have the fairy godmothers: pure French stuff. But then you get the magical dwarves of all sorts: that's German.
I can keep on and on and on, but yeah: Disney's fairytale AND the American fairytale were clearly made by fusing together the two big "blocks" of French and German fairytales (ignoring completely the third big block of Italian fairytales), and sprinkling with it a few items from other cultures - famous fairytales on their own, but not numerous to make a block. A bit of three little pigs there, a bit of little mermaid there, a bit of Baba-Yaga here...
French fairytale DEFINITIVELY influenced "modern" fairytale by giving to people the image of the grandiose princesses and heroic princes in somptuous and fabulous castles ; and it also offered the very archetype of the fairy godmother ; and it did offer the idea that fairy tales are about romances, finding love, stories ending in a wedding. I would say these are the three biggest French "imprints" in "modern" fairytales.
My thought might sharpen a bit because I do plan on covering the Disney movies and what they did to fairytale, but for now enjoy this convoluted thought-on-the-spot answer X)

Quick Thoughts on the Series Premier of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
I frickin’ love this series.
I’m not even gonna dance around that fact this time. I frickin’ LOVE this series already, and we only have one episode! Well, one forty-five minute special for a premier...but that’s enough for me to know it’s going to be great.
If you know me, you know my two favorite things in the world are superheroes and animation. So a new animated series featuring superheroes is already something that’s on the top of my favorites list. Adding to the fact that it’s based on a Marvel property, AND that your boy is a big Marvel fan? Well, let’s just say that I was already looking forward to this one. And I can already say it’s worth all the hype!
Good thing too, because Marvel animation hasn’t been doing too hot since cancelling Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (the GOAT of Marvel animation, right next to Spectacular Spider-Man). Most of their shows felt like over-glorified commercials for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to the point where they designed the characters to look nearly identical to the actors and their costumes. I’m sure everyone tried to make them decent, but you can tell that with each show, Disney told them to trade passion for commercialism.
With Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, within the firs MINUTE of the show, you can feel the passion that everyone involved felt with making it. Through the animation, art-style, music, humor, and the characters, I had this non-stop grin on my face. It’s hard to put into words just what makes everything about this show so spectacular on every sense it appeals to, so trust me when I say that it’s worth seeing to believe!
However, Tumblr...this is a Marvel property. It might not look or feel like it, but these characters are based on ones from Marvel Comics. I just feel like it’s worth pointing that out because this site REALLY hates Marvel for some reason. BUT don’t worry. This series is very much in its own thing. You don’t have to watch over a dozen movies or shows to get into it. You can just...watch this show on its own. Sure, they reference the Avengers, but it’s in a way to say, “Yeah, those super popular heroes that everyone knows at this point? They’re in this world. But not in THIS show.” And I like that. I like that despite being based on Marvel heroes, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur remains in its own little circle, not even connected to the MCU in any way. It’s just...a TV show that anyone can watch.
And I do mean anyone. You don’t need to be a super-mega fan to love this show. As far as I can tell, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are new and/or niche characters in the Marvel line-up, and that freedom allows the writers to just...do whatever they want. I’m all for that because I know NOTHING about these characters, so I’m cool with not having to worry about comic accuracy. There’s probably some mega nerds who get as pissed off as Spider-Man fans do over the MCU’s Peter Parker, but...screw them. This show’s fun.
BUT it’s not for everyone. Yeah, I know. I said ANYONE could get into it, but that just means that ANY person has the potential to like this. EVERY person? Well, as much as I enjoy the hell out of this series, I will admit that it’s energy might be obnoxious to some people. They use this whoosh sound effect...A LOT, and it almost got as annoying as Johnny Test’s WHIP sound effect. It never reached there, but it was a gimmick that overstayed its welcome. As for how fast-paced everything acts, I didn’t mind it, but some definitely will.
Also, with this premier, I feel like the writers played a few cards too soon. I don’t want to give away how, but there are some emotional beats that should have been saved for, at least, the season finale.
But, other than that, I still frickin’ love this series. It’s a ton of fun and will be a show I’ll try to keep up with for the foreseeable future. If you haven’t checked it out yet, well, here’s the series premier free on YouTube. If you can’t watch it...get a VPN.
If you’re a fan of superheroes and animation like I am, this show will be a fun time for you as well.

@dasfeministmermaid - apologies, I realise you asked this absolutely ages ago (last year now, even!), but re: my tags on this post, I was mostly just referring to the fact that at the time Disney took over SW, the popularity of GoT was largely responsible for the trend towards dark and 'gritty realism' in fantasy media in general. I don't claim there was necessarily direct influence on the SW sequels, but if we are talking cultural zeitgeists, then aside from perhaps Marvel, GoT was certainly one of the most prominent at the time. And I can't help but see something of that in TFA’s whole 'we’re going to portray the Original Trio as colossal failures and morally grey at best, instead of the unquestionably heroic figures created by George Lucas'. Not to mention the bizarro depiction of the Skywalker family as some kind of 'cursed' dynasty that was doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past, despite the fact that such a cynical interpretation flew in the face of every story element, theme, and character arc established in the original saga. The only Skywalker who was under a so-called 'curse' was Anakin (and by that I simply mean his enslavement by Sidious), and he freed himself (and his family, and the whole galaxy) from that once and for all when he destroyed the Sith and saved his son at the end of Return of the Jedi. In this light, the course of events that was supposed to have taken place off-screen in-between RotJ and TFA made no sense within the actual context established by the Lucas saga. The milieu of the characters in the PT and OT is purposefully constructed to be different from one another, hence why the Skywalker twins are raised without any direct Jedi influence, in loving families, are allowed to have childhoods, allowed to love, etc., unlike their parents who were trapped within an increasingly corrupt system that actively prevented them from living together as a couple or family. The very context in which Luke and Leia’s story takes place is a big part of what allows them to definitively break the cycle.
Of course, it can be argued that simply by continuing the story beyond RotJ at all, the Disney-sequels were always going to destroy the meaning of the Lucas saga. But the character assassination of the Original Trio in TFA was a conscious and completely unnecessary decision—after all, a sequel could have potentially been made without destroying Han, Luke, and Leia’s entire characterisations and relationships. The fact that Disney also (lazily and pointlessly) decided to construct a new 'Dark Times' as the setting is even more telling, since there was absolutely no need to do so, and all it did was add to the impression that these characters were nihilistically doomed to constantly repeat the same past mistakes and tragedies, when nothing could be further from the truth that Lucas' story established. I have gone into great detail about this many times over the years since TFA was released, so I won't dwell on it here, but the Original Trio absolutely DOES 'break the cycle', and suggesting otherwise destroys not only the meaning of the OT, but also that of the Prequels (basically erasing Anakin's entire story). The unequivocally happy ending of RotJ is likewise what 'redeems' the tragedy of the Prequels, and without that, the meaning of the entire Lucas saga is totally undermined and destroyed. I refuse to accept that, hence why I've always rejected the Disney-sequels and will never accept them as legitimate canon.
In brief, Star Wars was never meant to be 'gritty', nor is the outcome of its storyline supposed to be 'realistic'. Lucas' saga begins with a tragedy (the Prequels) that is subsequently redeemed by a fairytale (Original Trilogy), and which, when taken together, forms a created-myth, the outcome of which is meant to be idealistic, positive, uplifting, redemptive, and restorative. It is the eucatastrophe that Tolkien talks about, the defiance in the face of 'universal final defeat'. But the Disney-sequels ignored and/or actively overturned everything positive and meaningful about the original saga (that most lifelong SW fans like myself had valued and cherished since childhood) and all in the service of a decidedly lesser wannabe ‘addition’ that was devoid of the inspiring Romanticism and mythopoesis of Lucas’ saga. TFA came at a time when studios had certain assumptions about audience expectations and pandered to those accordingly. So I’m not saying there was direct influence from GoT, just that there was a cultural trend that a lot of media got swept up in at that time. Imo, it's also just the inevitable pitfall of attempting to make something that vaguely resembles ‘Star Wars' appeal to contemporary sensibilities. It was never going to work, because Star Wars (the real Star Wars) is mythic, Romantic, and transcendent—a type of story that, sadly, contemporary studios and audiences alike seem unable to appreciate.
**Note: most of the meta I've linked on this subject is from my Star Wars sideblog which is vehemently anti-Sequels, so fair warning to anyone who happens to like those. ;p

What are your favorite musicals? Besides Six and Hadestown, of course
Also also!
Assigne musicals to each arrowfam member. It can be what you think would be their favorites or just something that makes you think of them
besides them, legally blonde and newsies :] legally blonde the musical is better than the movie i will not be silenced. just cannot be topped. and i saw newsies live recently and it kinda changed my fucking brain chemistry, it's also the show that got me INTO musicals! also im so sorry if u actually know me enough to know how insane i am about hadestown and six, no one deserves to be witness to who i become when i talk about them
i've definitely done this in a groupchat but i cant remember if i ever posted it so if not this is a great excuse to actually do so, thank u anon
ollie - (this will ignore in-universe canon references to cats and singin in the rain, tho i do think singin in the rain would be my choice otherwise) hadestown or come from away, unions, romance, and community innit. (i'd add newsies but i think ollie would refuse to watch it out of anti-disney principals. also maybe les mis but i dont feel qualified to say that bc i still havent forced myself to watch the stage version ive only seen the shitty film adaptation ((im so sorry)))
dinah - hate mosts musicals for the principle of it, will however watch chicago any time (but she used to be mine from waitress makes me think of her)

Fifteen Days of Disney Magic - Number 9
Welcome to Fifteen Days of Disney Magic! In honor of the company’s 100th Anniversary, I am counting down my Top 15 Favorite Movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios! If you hoped today’s entry would make the cut on my list, then wish granted! Number 9 is…Aladdin.
Tumblr media
“Aladdin” has become a slightly controversial film in recent years, for reasons I won’t go into. However, for most people, I think it’s fair to say it’s one of Disney’s most popular and well-respected franchises, and it’s definitely one of the most wild. The film takes a deliberately more comedic, free-spirited kind of look at its source material; from Robin Williams as the pop-culture-reference-spouting Genie, to Gilbert Gottfried as the loudmouth Iago, to various visual and musical elements that feel more like a cross between Las Vegas and stereotypical Bollywood than any sort of authentic interpretation of Arabian culture. It’s a very modern and comical sort of feature, when compared to the more timeless take on things with “Beauty and the Beast.” This film is essentially the precursor to movies like “Hercules” and “The Emperor’s New Groove,” which also take on a more humorous, almost satirical sort of tone with their stories and aesthetic elements. What I think sets Aladdin apart from those two films, however, and what makes it better than so many later movies that would take inspiration from it, is its heart. Which isn't to say those later films DIDN'T have heart, but I think Aladdin's soft center is much more pronounced, so to speak. The lessons it teaches are simple ones, but handled very interestingly. It’s a story about honesty, destiny, acceptance, and a willingness to change things for the betterment of the world around you. Aladdin, himself, is quite possibly one of my favorite Disney protagonists: he’s a very human character, as from start to finish we sympathize with him. Even when he makes choices we don’t agree with, we understand why he’s making them and we hope he’ll figure out a way to manage things. He’s also a classic underdog character, as he starts off as someone at the bottom of the ladder and has to find ways to reach the top. Once he falls off again, however, he’s quick to use his wits, courage, and personal skills to make sure things are fixed. The other characters are very memorable, too: Jafar is one of Disney’s most popular villains, and one of my Top 10 favorites, for good reason. Jasmine is a strong female presence in the story, the Sultan is loveably redonculous, Iago is fun, Abu is cute…and do I even need to say that the Genie is probably Robin Williams’ single greatest movie performance of all time? (Well…aside from maybe Mrs. Doubtfire.) Just like the movie, the character was influential on a lot of later films, both by Disney and even by other rival companies. Off topic from the characters, the visual style – while obviously exaggerative – is honestly one of my favorite parts of the film. The use of shapes and colors really gives this a uniquely dense, rich sense of aesthetics.
Honestly, I think this is also one of those films I love not only for its own sake, but also for its multitude of spin-offs: as a kid, I watched the Aladdin TV series, and the two direct-to-video sequels to this movie set in that universe, about a bajillion times. As an adult I see the flaws in all of them, but they are still fun and adventurous pieces of work that, in my opinion, do credit to the original. And the original, to this day, is still a Disney film I hold a special place for in my heart. As I said in an earlier entry, choosing between this, “Beauty and the Beast,” "Peter Pan," and one other film was quite tricky. I had to go through a list of criteria to ultimately decide which was really my favorite. “Aladdin” is a movie I refer to a lot in my day-to-day life, and of all the Disney movies out there…honestly, when it comes to the stage versions, there isn’t a single Disney play I think I would want to do more than Aladdin, simply because there are no less than four characters whom I would love to portray and would feel perfectly joyful playing. That’s more than any other stage-from-film version you can find, I think, at least in current existence! And as I said, my general nostalgia for not only this movie, but also its franchise as a whole, is quite pronounced. HOWEVER, Aladdin takes a backseat from the one movie above it because it does falter in one attribute: my writing. I’m not really in a hurry to write anything set in or based on this world, in any way – whether it be my own original work inspired by it, or fanfics I’m commissioned to create – so it loses out for that reason and that reason only. This is, of course, discounting Jamil & Kalim from Twisted Wonderland. I’ll happily write for them any day of the week. ;) Tomorrow, we reach the halfway point of the countdown, with my 8th Favorite Disney Movie! HINT: It Proves the Quote, “The Past Is Never Dead. It Isn’t Even Past.”

I totally understand why you have mixed feelings about Enchanted, but for me, i didn't see it as giselle became too "deep" for edward. after all nancy got together with edward. and yeah it can come off like pairing the spares but there is a deleted scene that shows Nancy wanted more fairytale romance and the ending basically shows that as valid. i just saw it as them realizing they changed and want different things. just like how robert fell out of love with nancy.
also what i liked about enchanted was it actually shows credence to the old fairytales, "That's How You Know" being an entire song where Giselle schools Robert and shows how HE was wrong and she's correct.
Basically Enchanted feels more like a dialogue between two life philosophies as opposed to Frozen just doing meanspirited fairy tale bashing.
Thank you for sharing your opinion! I definitely liked Enchanted as a kid, but as an adult Amy's acting and the direction of this specific movie is a little difficult for me to digest. To me, it feels like she's just doing a cheap Snow White parody (the "oh's!!!!" and the hand gestures and how she generally holds her arms were entirely ripped off) and is acting like any party princess, like there isn't anything really unique about her performance or dimensional until she's becoming more rooted in the "real world" and I think that's very intentional. Scenes like the one where she doesn't understand what anger is are so strange to me because the original princesses were intended to be, paraphrasing Walt, as close to skin and flesh as possible (he wanted these characters to feel like real people). They always represented the full gamut of emotions, so there's many things that just don't make sense to me because I'm unsure of what they're rooted in or responding to. Criticism, I guess you could say, but Disney Princess criticism is RARELY ever actually accurate. Like that one time I was reading a book and the author mentioned Cinderella and I had to wonder if they'd ever actually seen the film.
In reality, I do think you're right and some of the aim of production was to make a love letter to the Disney movies- especially with all the references (queens Ilene Woods and Mary Costa were supposed to have a cameo!)- as opposed to just rip fairytales apart and generally be blasphemous toward them like Frozen. But, I think for the time Enchanted came out in, it was impossible to not be riddled with a lot of the backwards rhetoric that was prevalent during that time (and still is, and I hope we'll progress from one day). I also think Giselle was kind of Disney's reaction to Fiona from Shrek in a way? I know Enchanted itself got pitched a really long time before Shrek even came into production, but there's so many similarities between the two and Enchanted was made during the time Disney was desperately trying to be like Dreamworks and was scrambling to fire all the legends that made the Disney Renaissance what it was and hire Dreamworks talent and totally rebrand their movies.
Again, just a theory of mine, but think about it: they're both redheaded princesses in universes that are hyperbolic about its fairytale symbolism while, in the same vein, both condemning and uplifting the universe and value of fairytales. They both are fixated on true love and true love's kiss (Giselle literally sings a song about it) and they both fall in love with men that they initially don't think they will while they have someone else in mind (Edward for Giselle, Charming for Fiona). They came out less than a decade apart from each other and seem to come from lands where all the fairytale creatures dwell (Fiona literally comes from Far Far Away where they're like celebrities, while Giselle frequently references the things she's heard about stepmothers and little red riding hood and Grumpy which is unlike, say, Ariel, who definitively wouldn't know who Grumpy was). They're more concerned with dealing with existing fairytale archetypes and tropes as opposed to creating something unique of its own. Also, there's literally an ogre in the opening scene of Giselle's movie! Which, to my knowledge, is the only ogre (at least to that point) that existed in a Disney movie?
All that to say, I always did really enjoy Nancy and wish we got to spend more time with her as a character! It was refreshing seeing a modern character from New York that was so realistic and fun and you could picture at an office happy hour that was also so into the idea of fairytales. Like, Nancy loved fairytales and romance, but "fairytales" weren't her entire personality so you might not even know that about her if you didn't see it onscreen. I would love to see a male character from the real world treated like this, either in an LGBT plot or just a male character in general that's more dreamy and romantic, because there were some times where it felt like Giselle was coaching Robert on how to woo a woman in general, as if all women want the same thing and men need to be trained to accommodate those needs lol

Maybe it is not because of cgi movies but because how bad written the characters especially the villains. So far the only villain I can think fits is Mother Gothel because of how well-written her character is despite lacking of powers and a twisted version of her helps. Although they did take inspiration from CGI movies like Big Hero 6 for that chapter 6 plot and even took some TV shows like Lion Guard which it revealed to have lion guards in Leona's hometown.

As I mentioned in the original post, yes; TWST does take inspiration from and make reference to many Disney properties regardless of artistic medium. This extends to their animated and live action films and shows, as well as musical productions (the whole plot line with Rollo having a little brother that was led astray by sin comes from an obscure Hunchback of Notre Dame German musical) and more. It’s just that TWST has yet to introduce characters in their own universe explicitly twisted from characters in the 3D era, whether villains or not.
Seeing as the big “sell” of Twisted Wonderland is its villain-based characters, I can see why one might think poor quality of the original (3D) Disney characters would be a factor in preventing them from being successfully adapted. However, I personally don’t think this is a huge consideration since that would imply Disney’s old villains are all written significantly well when some are simply generically evil or not that interesting (though this will vary depending on who you ask). Besides, it would also discount the fact that no matter how low quality or boring the original villain was, they can always be “dressed up” and given a more interesting story and character by the TWST team; they are not 100% beholden to the mold the original Disney character set.
I definitely agree that many of the more recent villains aren’t the… strongest… (if we had a villain at all, that is). Mother Gothel is the only one that immediately sticks out in my mind as a great villain from the 3D era. (She’s so uniquely wicked in how she gaslights and manipulates Rapunzel.) However, we don’t know if the people on the TWST team also hold this same opinion of disliking the 3D era and letting that actively influence their design direction for the game. It’s very hard to discern what the overall sentiment is since we don’t often hear from the TWST devs and just make assumptions of what the popular opinion is based on what we hear from our own social circles.
With the deliberate 3-4 years of staying with 2D animated characters (+ the G7 being some of the most iconic Disney villains) and now the Platinum Suit line now making references to the classics, I really think nostalgia is the main motivator rather than TWST (or Disney) questioning the quality of their 3D stories and characters. If anything, they (Disney, that is) seem pretty eager to stroke their own egos about mega box office and merchandising hits 😂 Frozen, anyone?

Some belated thoughts on the Mario movie because I ended watching it far more late than I wanted. As usual, some spoilers after the cut.
In terms of animation, art and visual design it’s just a treat to the eyes. Indeed, I would argue it’s Illumination prettiest movie to day.
That being said, it doesn’t surprise me that professional movie critics were so harsh with it. The overall storyline and plot are just extremely basic, bordering on shallow, so I’m not surprised critics weren’t impressed, especially considering other recent animated movies have been far better in that respect.
That being said, the story being simple is something that I was expecting from watching the trailers and it ultimately doesn’t bother me. Indeed, I would say a simple story it’s actually fitting for a Super Mario Bros. movie that’s also intended as an origin story of sorts for the characters, given that the mainline Mario games don’t have particularly complex or deep storytelling either.
Nevertheless, I definitely noticed some scripting problems that don’t have to do with the lack of complexity in the plot. Things like, for example, how Bowser just conveniently learns that Peach is traveling with Mario and that they are planning to take a short-cut with the Kong army for no real reason. It was hand-waved by having his lackeys reporting to him “intelligence inform us…” but that came off as lazy writing more than anything else.
Also, a couple of scenes that were intended as emotional moments felt a tad rushed, which diminished their impact. That probably could have been solved if the movie had gotten some additional minutes of run time.
All things considered, I’m again not surprised the critics weren’t impressed, but I wouldn’t say the movie is bad. On the contrary, it’s actually quite good. Not great mind you, even at its best Illumination is still not at the same level as the best of Pixar, Disney or DreamWorks. Even then, it’s still really enjoyable and fun: The characters are extremely charming, the action set-pieces are great and the humor and jokes are on point. I wouldn’t say it’s the best videogame movie adaptation ever, but it’s definitely among the best ones that have been made.
It also has a cavalcade of references to effectively the entire Mario franchise, as well as some other Nintendo properties. If you are videogame nerd, it’s definitely fun to be on the lookout for all the references, especially as they are actually integrated quite naturally in the movie without feeling forced.
I definitely liked that Peach didn’t become a distressed damsel in the end, as I feared. Her personality in the movie is certainly more assertive than how she is usually depicted in the mainline Mario games, but you still see her compassionate and sweet nature at points (at least, whenever she is not battling Bowser). The changes to her backstory are also actually interesting, makes me wonder if they are going to connect her to Rosalina’s origins in an eventual sequel.
By contrast, I was actually surprised that Luigi spent most of the movie as the “distressed dude”. While I was a bit disappointed that he didn’t appear more often, I welcomed how he joined the final battle. The scenes of fraternal love between him and Mario were also quite touching.
Donkey Kong and the Kong clan in general were just delightful. Definitely enjoyed the small arc between DK and Mario going from rivals to fire-forged friends of sorts. There were some rumors that Illumination was also developing a Donkey Kong spin-off and I certainly hope that’s the case.
With so much revenue from the box office, a sequel is inevitable as well as more films based on Nintendo’s games. I’m very skeptical they will pursue a “Nintendo Cinematic Universe” as some people have claimed, but I will definitely welcome more movies based on their IP, provided they have a similar level of quality to this one.
Given I watched the movie in Latin American Spanish, I actually don’t know how the whole voice acting saga that encompassed so much of the discourse pre-release actually ended, although my understanding is that the voice actors apparently did a better job than was expected. The Latin American actors were great in any case, and it was nice to see them featured in the credits.

Summary:
Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural. Julie Molina is enjoying her time on Phantoms, the supernatural detective show. It had been her saving grace after being blacklisted from basically everywhere following her media feud with former Disney Channel costar Carrie Wilson that tanked her music career before it even started.
But with rumors that the show isn’t going to get a third season, Julie is worried about her career completely ending with no jobs or recording contracts in sight.
Add in the fact that even if they get a third season, Julie’s costar might leave the show and go off to pursue his music career.
And Julie is trying to understand why said costar potentially leaving is making her so upset.

Excerpt from TVDaily
Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural, the characters teasingly referring to themselves as ghost hunters. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider).
Marci Harrison, 46, affectionally called Mrs. Harrison by her costars, is definitely the most veteran member of the cast, previously starring in two other shows for the Network, playing a teacher on the hit ten-season show Recess, and is recently coming off of a four-season show starring as the mother on Home with the Houses. Mrs. Harrison plays Captain Hopkins, the serious no-nonsense lead detective constantly dealing with the antics of her younger and less experienced detectives.
Flynn Rider, 22, plays detective Fiona, the fun and wild rookie whose first day on the job opened up the series. Rider previously played the youngest daughter in the Freeform show, Life with the Clarks, for eight seasons, spending almost her entire teens growing up on the show. She also has been announced as part of the cast for the new superhero movie coming next Spring. Rider was moved up to second billing behind Harrison for the second season, the showrunners stating that it was always the plan and that the show will spend time following her storyline.
Alex Mercer, 24, and Reggie Peters, 24, play detectives Allan and Rick respectively. The two play the buddies on the show, with Peters playing the more chaotic and jokester of the two and Mercer playing the more levelheaded one, although his character still gets roped into all of the antics. Mercer previously starred on a handful of Nickelodeon shows while Peters has spent a lot of time doing voice work and only a few camera jobs.
Kayla Caro, 24, plays the strong detective Kristen, who has the most experience of the detectives besides their captain and spends a lot of time putting the guys in their place and kicking ass. Caro spent many years in the industry, modeling and doing many commercials. She is most known for her dancing, specifically as a troupe dancer on Dancing with the Stars for two seasons. She also starred as the love interest in the superhero-themed Disney Original Movie, Super Senior.
Julie Molina, 22, and Luke Patterson, 24, might be last on the cast list, but the two have been slowly gaining a small but mighty following for their portrayal of science duo Dr. Jane Ortega and Logan Guise. The two characters take care of the forensic side of the show, playing the inseparable best friends and partners who might be a little nerdy and cannot always understand the social cues of their fellow team members. Molina is best known for her lead role on the Disney Channel show Dirty Candies but is known even more for the very public feud with her costars Carrie Wilson and Nick Danforth-Evans. Patterson has probably the most extensive resume out of all of the younger cast, even rivaling Harrison. Patterson has worked since he was a small child, starring in many movies, tv shows, and commercials since. Patterson has also been announced as the lead for Frank Wolfe’s new film about a struggling indie rockstar. Molina and Patterson had previously worked together on the  Disney Channel's Original Movie Meddling, playing the older siblings of the two main characters that they try to get together.
After barely getting picked up for season two, showrunner and executive producer Caleb Covington says that he plans on making the second season more impactful, with more character development, more spooky (and a little wacky) storylines, and scenes to really show off the talented casts acting chops.

Studies suggest the brain recognise a social network of up to 150 people. Any more ‘good friends’ and the brain won’t have enough mental capacity or energy to sustain a stable relationship.
T/N: This is known as Dunbar’s number and was challenged by a bigger study in 2021 suggesting there is no limit.

Introducing a new friend.

Video translation:
Hello Little Xia, my name’s Lucien. I’ve heard about you over the phone from Nian Gao and now we can properly meet. Are you stepping on the ‘Little Prince’ I gave him? It seems you also like this story. Hmm… pointy beak, soft feathers… very cute. Xia Lei: Lucien, come eat! Lucien: Ok, coming! We’re a bit short on time today but next time, I’ll introduce another a new friend. Hmm… even nicer to pat than I imagined.
T/N:
I can’t make out whatever Lucien is calling Xia Lei… NianGao?!? Rice Cake?!!?!? Nian Gao (CNY Rice Cake) is Xia Lei’s kid’s nickname according to EphemeralPhantasm who translated this as well!

“If people are educated, they should be passionate about differences. They should become less certain, not more certain”
T/N: Quoting ‘Tara Westover’, author of ‘Educated: A Memoir’, “Education should always be an expansion of your mind, a deepening of your empathy, a broadening of your perspective. It should never harden your prejudices. If people become educated, they should become less certain, not more. They should listen more, they should talk less. They should have a passion for difference and a love of ideas that aren’t theirs.”

Lumen in Chinese is流明 – amongst many dull translations, this kind of simultaneously phonetic and definitional translation can’t help but make people smile.
T/N: It’s great tbh 10/10 made me smile. 1. 流明LiuMing sounds like Lumen phonetically. 2. The separate words, 流and明mean Flow and Brightness - Lumen is the unit for luminous flux.

Barnum’s Effect is a clever application of generalisations being used as individualisations but it cannot really be called a true personality reading.

Research
This week was all about getting medieval research done. For this, I did a lot of medieval research mainly relying on articles and documentaries. Also, the V&A provided a great source for products that would be used in that period. I also watched Disney's robin hood for background inspiration.

Development
I started to look at stonework that may have been used during the medieval period, I then began to create paints and linework of different possible stone works. After I was happy with this trying to stick to the bright colours that had been suggested to us by our show run.

Feedback
positives- the showrunner liked the stacked corner stones in the middle of my studies and the thin stacked brick.
Note- to try and simplify the stone work to fit in with the background aesthetic.
Castle exploration 06/02
I started exploring the shape of the castle that I had done previously in a front-view trying to get a feel for how it might look. I had chosen the shape that a majority of my group was drawn to in my first initial shape explorations. From this, I decided to include two different versions one with extra detail in the stonework and one without. Just for fun, I placed the initial sketch of the character in the image (this was not drawn or designed by me)

This was a quick image that I had drawn on the train to university, I wanted to explore line work and its colour to see if this would be an option for us. I also added a small angel detail into the window as I thought having this throughout might be something interesting to include. I also loved the cream-to-yellow gradient I used within the window.

Castle Crowns exploration
A member of my team had made mention of making the castle look like crowns, I really liked this Idea so I drew 3 different kinds of castles that looked like crowns. Using images from google as a reference while drawing. I tried to give different shape theory design, curved, straight edges, and then sharp edges. This Idea was quickly dropped.

Background exploration- 08/02
We were set a task to complete a test for a background that would be going into our animatic. I decided to do the banquet, as this was a ruff I decided to take inspiration from one banquet hall image (found on Google) and then created my own initial concept of the design and layout of the background while referring to styles that the showrunner had mentioned. The first image is lined in a FG, MG and BG format. After I had this lined I decided to explore with colours in the same format, experimenting with texture, different brushes and then adding lighting.

colours are nice, but need to be warped to fit the style.
