Getting back into Battletech got me into the Battletech video game due to the Steam Winter Sale. My ancient laptop runs it, but my load times are horrendous. It's worth it so far (granted Winter Sale). I have done two missions (two fairly scripted missions). I like Battletech this is much more of a Battletech blog than I ever thought it would be. What has become of my life?

Just an audio clip/appreciation post for the wonderful book (AKA canon fanfiction) known as ‘The Stone Rose’ by Jacqueline Rayner. This is near the end of the story, where the Doctor has Rose cross into his timeline to assist his past self [who’s desperately searching for her after he learns she’s been turned to stone].
The audiobook is narrated by David Tennant, because of course it is:
Rose had just settled down and adjusted the metal box thing over her mouth, when the door to the shrine opened. She peered through Fortuna’s legs and saw that, yes, it was the Doctor. He saw the statue. She shrank back as he hurried forward. . . and then he realised that it wasn’t her.
Rose was taken aback. She hadn’t known - how could she know? - what her disappearance had done to him. This Doctor had a look of such despair in his eyes that her heart almost stopped in pity. She wanted more than anything else in the world to jump up, go to him, tell him that everything was going to be all right.
But, what with possibly ripping time and space apart, that was probably a bad idea.
‘Rose is prettier than you,’ the Doctor suddenly said.

The Elf Clauses, for those of you as curious as @shittyelfwriter and I:
THE DIY (DO-IT-YOUR-ELF) CLAUSE
All gifts delivered by Santa must be completely handmade by North Pole elves. Should an elf be discovered outsourcing toy production, they will immediately be removed from the toy line and reassigned to another department
THE SNOWMAN LEFT BEHIND CLAUSE
When an elf builds a snowman, that elf enters into a sacred agreement to care for said snowman until his natural demise. Failure to care for one's snowman appropriately (including but not limited to premature melting, snow discoloration, and nose breakage) will result in punitive action.
THE KRIBBLE KRABBLE CLAUSE
In accepting the position of Head Elf, you agree to take a leave of absence form the North Pole for education and rejuvenation purposes, whether you wish to or not. No exceptions. That includes you, Betty.
THE ELF-EXILE CLAUSE
[we actually couldn't decipher this one properly??? but essentially it says that any elf that is insubordinate to a Santa gets banished to the Wobbly Woods]

Phèdre nó Delaunay entered the library, and in that moment, I had the strangest sensation. It must be that a drifting cloud occluding the sun passed onward, for a sudden burst of brilliance lit the room. It illuminated Phèdre's face, making her appear to shine with glory inside and out, piercing my heart with inexplicable longing.

SO I filled out a Jacqueline Wilson tier list! There was one with more titles but I haven’t read half of them due to, yknow, aging out of it.
BUT I do want to give these a reread, although the Lola Rose one was quite recent. Maybe I’ll read em with bae?
I’d love to do like some mini reviews/discussion on these, but I don’t know if anyone would care. I know, I know, do stuff caue YOU want to, don’t make stuff for others sake, blah blah blah, but I actually care about these books!!! I want my thoughts to be seen and heard if I share them!!! So who knows, maybe I’ll do that at some point

So far I've reread the original Hetty Feather trilogy, Diamond, and Little Stars...CAN I JUST SAY HOW UNBELIEVABLY ANNOYING HETTY'S FOSTER SISTERS ARE WTF
LIKE THE WAY THEY ACT SO SNOBBY...so unwelcoming...so callous and insensitive towards Hetty and Gideon. It was bad in Emerald Star but it literally gets even worse in Little Stars 💀 I know Hetty has matured somewhat at this point, in terms of not flying into tempers so easily, but I literally would have decked those women idk how she had the self-restraint not to LMAO. I was absolutely getting the same vibes when it's pointed out that Peg seemed to appreciate the company of her foster children more.
Screw you to Nora, Bess, Rosie and (the older) Eliza in particular 🖕 and screw Jem as well but my disdain is for different reasons 💀 Janet deserved better smh.

On a different note, gathering up some Battlemech minis and maps, enjoying it a lot. Probably not painting anything anytime soon, but these sculpts practically beg for it. Already talking to semi-reliable gaming friend and wife about running a mercenary mini-campaign in the like 3020s?
Related: what Mechs would you say most resemble the Dwarf Fighter style ("In our house we play Dwarf fighters") - slow, steady, armored, head-lopping, hold a space and fight real hard to keep it?

okay i'm introducing his family rn.
his parents are joseph and jacqueline morgan--they both came from families of hunters, and both of their families had been hunting for generations.
but the difference between their families was that jacqueline's was similar to the winchesters' situation: the mother of jacqueline and her two siblings (younger brother benjamin, older sister bethany) was killed by something supernatural (idk what yet, not important) and ever since, their father raised them to seek out the thing that killed their mom. during their childhood, bethany got killed, and it drove their father even more on his quest for revenge. at this point, both jacqueline and benjamin are aware of how bad their life is and they really wish they could get out of there.
meanwhile, joseph's family was a bit more normal. he was an only child, but grew up with both parents and they didn't take him out on hunts until he was old enough to handle himself, and before that they trained him WITHOUT being fucking crazy about it.
i'm thinking when jacqueline is twenty-two and joseph is twenty, they meet while joseph is on one of his first solo hunts and jacqueline is on a solo hunt of her own; she had lost track of how many solo hunts she has gone on at this point. jacqueline learns about how joseph was raised and is like "wow i didn't know you could be more normal while hunting...." and they secretly meet for a while until jacqueline's father dies on a hunt and jacqueline is finally free from him.
now, jaime's aunt and uncle. jaime's aunt marilyn is a normal person who grew up in a normal family and unaware of the supernatural until she is targeted by something benjamin is hunting. going to put the two of them at about 18 at this point. marilyn ends up saving benjamin from the creature completely by accident, and benjamin is smitten. he ends up abandoning the hunter's life soon after because marilyn is worth it. he estranges himself from jacqueline until their father is dead because now he knows for sure there is no way that him seeing his sister will get him anywhere near their father.
then we've got jackie. jackie is jaime's younger cousin by five years. since he was raised by marilyn and benjamin more than his own parents, he was raised alongside jackie, and jackie and jaime saw each other as siblings more than cousins.
a funny thing is that jaime's parents wanted a boy, had a name picked out and everything (james benjamin). he ended up being born afab so they had to switch his name to jaime bethany. jackie's parents wanted a girl (they were gonna name her jacqueline marie), but she ended up being born amab and they changed the name to jack marlin. but then they both transition and present as the gender their parents wanted kids of originally.
anyways so jackie doesn't ever get into hunting, in either the mainverse or hunter!jaime au. she is comfortable living her life like her parents--knowing about the supernatural and not hunting them. she ends up with a wife and a kid or two and jaime is so proud of his cousin for having a family :)
