It all started with a super rare day off with my Mom. It was just going to be me, her, and my little half-brother Henry. We were both so excited to be able to spend a Saturday with our Mom since her job takes her away a lot. We were all playing when Mom got a call.
“Y/N can you watch your brother for a second?” She asked and I nodded. She gave me a smile and walked to the side yard. I distracted Henry while Mom took her call, which she didn’t look exactly happy about. She came back into the room and sighed.
“I need to go, we’ve got a case…” She said and Henry frowned.
“I’m going to call the babysitter, can you watch your brother until she comes?” She asked and I shrugged.
“I can watch him, Mom.” I said and she bit her lip.
“I don’t know when it’s going to be done.” She said and I nodded.
“So when Dad get’s back-”
“Dad is part of the case.” She said while Henry was distracted. My eyes widened and she motioned me to follow her.
“Henry, come inside and grab some juice.” Mom said. We followed her inside and Herny ran to get his juice. Mom pulled me over to sit at the table while Henry was watching cartoons.
“Is Dad okay?” I asked, worried.
“Dad is fine, his partner was shot.” She answered and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
“I really don’t know how long this will be, Y/N.” She said and I nodded.
“I get it Mom, I can take care of Henry.” I said and she sighed.
“Call me if you need a babysitter to help you.” She said and I smiled.
“I promise, now go, Dad needs your help.” I said. I got up and went to go watch cartoons with Henry.
It’s been hours since Mom and Dad left for work. Henry was upset for a little while about Mom having to leave, but I distracted him enough to forget about it. Mom told me I wasn’t allowed to look at the news at all, which I understood. She hated when I knew about local cases. I was too distracted by Henry to even think about looking at the news. However the thought of my Mom and Dad were constantly in the back of my head. I had Henry watching cartoons while I was making dinner for us. I pulled out my phone bit my lip. I haven’t heard anything from Mom or Dad since Mom left.
“Don’t check the news under any circumstances.” Mom’s voice floated through my head.
“I know Mom… but you and Dad haven’t answered any one my texts…” I whispered to myself. I took a deep breath and pulled up the news on my phone. My eyes widened and I dropped my phone on the counter.
“Y/N/N? You alright?” Henry called.
“I’m fine Henry! Just had something slippery on my hands and dropped my phone!” I called back.
“Okay!” He called back and I hoped went back to watching cartoons. I quickly picked up my phone and called Mom.
“Please pick up, please pick up…” I mumbled to myself.
“Y/N? Are you alright? Do you need a babysitter?” Mom answered.
“I’m fine, Mom, we’re fine. Are you? Is Dad?” I asked quietly so Henry wouldn’t hear.
“You looked at the news!?” She hissed at me.
“I’m sorry! You and Dad weren’t answering my texts and I was worried…” I answered.
“We’re fine, Y/N, I need you to stop looking at the news please.” She begged, she sounded off.
“Okay, I promise, can you just please answer my texts? I’m really worried, Mom.” I whispered and she sighed.
“I’m sorry for worrying you sweetie, I’m fine everything’s gonna be okay. Just focus on Henry and I promise I’ll text you in an hour.” She said. She said everything is going to be fine… I grew up with just my Mom at first and I picked up some profiling along the way. My Mom was lying to me.
“Mom?” I asked.
“Y/N, I really need to go. Just let me know if you need a babysitter.” She said and hung up. I sighed and put my phone to the side.
“Something’s wrong…” I mumbled to myself.
“Hey Y/N! Look who’s home!” I heard Henry call and I turned to see Dad with a woman I’ve never seen before.
“Dad!” I said and rushed over to him. I went to hug him then noticed he looked a little worse for wear.
“Dad? Are you alright?” I asked.
“I’m fine Sweet heart, Mom thought you could use a little help and sent me over with my partner-”
“I’m Izzy.” The woman cut him off and offered me her hand. Alarm bells were ringing in my head. Mom said his partner was shot.
“Uh, hi.” I said, shaking her hand. I glanced at my Dad and he just smiled at me. I heard a sizzling behind me quickly turned around.
“Oh shoot!” I said and rushed to take the pot off the stove. I heard the two adult talking in a low voice that I just couldn’t hear. When I turned back around Dad was kneeling down to look at Henry.
“Daddy let’s play!” Henry said.
“Daddy can’t play right now, I gotta go to work. But this is um-”
“Izzy.” The woman said again.
“Izzy.” Dad whispered.
“Can you say hi to Izzy?” Dad asked.
“Hi Izzy.” Henry whispered, he was nervous about this woman too.
“She’s gonna stay with you and Y/N until Mama comes home, okay?” Dad said.
“Okay.” Henry said, sounding sad.
“Hey.” Dad said, gaining his attention.
“I love you.” Dad said to him.
“I love you.” Henry said back. Dad hugged him.
“You’re gonna be okay.” Dad said which made my anxiety skyrocket. Dad sent Henry into the living room to play and I walked up to him.
“Dad?” I asked with a nervous tone.
“Come here Y/N/N.” He said and motioned me to come hug him. I stepped into his arms and wrapped mine around him.
“Everything is gonna be okay.” He whispered and I looked up at him. He was lying just like Mom was… He moved next to my ear and whispered so only I could hear.
“Keep your brother away from her.” He whispered. I looked into his eyes and nodded. I’d protect my brother with my life and I think my Dad knows that too. He kissed my head and gently pushed me to follow Henry. I watched him walk out the house.
“Hey Henry, you wanna help me finish cooking?” I asked and he smiled at me.
“Yeah!” He said and I quickly picked him up. I walked him into the kitchen and watch the woman look around our house. I was so anxious about her presence here, but I just had to focus on protecting my brother.
As I was cooking Henry started getting antsy and wanted to go color. I sighed and put him down. I led him over to the table where he got in the chair all by himself, and grabbed some paper and crayons. He quietly started coloring and I went back to the kitchen to hurry up and finish cooking.
As I was just about to finish I heard Henry talking to the woman. I cursed myself and quickly finished the cooking. Once everything was done I left it on the stove to keep warm and walked out to find Henry on the woman’s lap. My eyes widened as I watched her touching his hair.
“Let me tell you a story.” She said and I gulped.
“Hey, Henry, foods ready. You hungry?” I asked as I walked over to him.
“I wanna hear the story, Y/N/N.” He said. Izzy smirked at me and held Henry a bit closer to her.
“Sit down, listen to the story, Y/N/N.” She smeared at me. I gave her a tight lipped smile and sat in the seat Henry was sitting in. I heard my phone ringing in the other room, but I knew if I moved she’d hurt my brother. She just smirked at me.
“I really think we should eat Henry.” I said and he started to reach for me.
“Y/N/N!” He said and I quickly pulled him out of her lap. I went into the kitchen and the woman followed. She grabbed my phone from the counter and smirked at me. We heard the gate opened and the woman went to go check the window.
“Henry, go hide.” I whispered and he rushed off. I moved to run for it but I heard a gun cock.
“Where do you think you’re going?” She asked and I slowly turned around.
“Come out Henry!” She called out.
“Don’t listen to her Henry!” I shouted.
“You little bitch!” She growled at me and I tried to run. She shot at me and I screamed in pain.
“Drop it!” I heard my Mom growl. I couldn’t focus on what they were doing, but I knew Mom was fighting with the girl.
“Mommy!” I heard Henry shout.
“Henry!” Mom shouted. There was more fighting and then I heard a thud. I kept pressure on my lower left back and stayed laying on the floor. I heard footsteps coming closer to me and someone knelt down.
“You alright, kid?” I recognized the voice of David.
“It hurts a lot.” I groaned.
“Let me see.” He said as he gently moved my hand. He looked at the bleeding wound and sighed.
“The bullet is still inside, but your Mom and I are gonna get you help.” He said and I nodded.
“I know…” I said.
“Y/N/N?” I heard Henry asked in a scared voice.
“I’ll be fine, Henry.” I said and smiled back at him in my Mom’s arms. David pushed his arms under me and lifted me up. I groaned as he lifted and flipped me over so I was facing him. I felt his hand put pressure on my wound and I groaned again.
“I know, Y/N, just hang in there.” He said. They rushed me to the car and Mom got in the back with me and she locked Henry in so he couldn’t really see me. Mom gripped my hand and she had tears in her eyes.
“I’ll be fine, Mom.” I said and she nodded.
“I know sweetie, you’re so strong.” She said and I smiled.
Once we got me to the hospital the staff rushed me inside. They got me into surgery quickly. I obviously didn’t remember any of it but when I woke up my Mom, Dad, and Henry were all standing around my bed. Dad was in a hospital gown too.
“Mom? Dad?” I groaned as I tried to sit up.
“Hey, lay back down, you need to relax.” Mom said as she pushed me back down.
“I’m alright, Mom.” I said as I hugged her tightly. She hugged me tighter and I felt myself struggling to breath a bit.
“Alright Hon, let our daughter breath.” Dad said with a laugh. Mom wiped her eyes as she pulled back from me.
“Are you alright, Dad?” I asked and he nodded with a smile.
“I’m fine sweet heart, we gotta worry about you.” He said and I shook my head.
“I’m fine.” I insisted.
“Y/N, you took a bullet to the back.” He said with a frown.
“You told me to protect Henry.” I said with a small shrug.
“I didn’t mean risk your life.” He said and I smiled.
“I’d do anything to protect my brother.” I said and my parents smiled.
“Well, we’re really glad you treat him as if he’s your full brother…” Mom started and I looked at them confused.
“Why wouldn’t I?” I asked. Dad wrapped his arm around Mom’s shoulder and pulled her closer.
“Y/N, your Mama and I are gonna get married.” Dad said and I quickly sat up, ignoring the pain.
“Really!?” I asked with a huge smile.
“Y/N! You need to lay down, you’ll rip your stitches!” Mom said, trying to push me back down. I grabbed her hands and looked into her eyes.
“You finally said yes? Will’s really gonna be my Dad now?” I asked with tears in my eyes.
“Yes sweetie, Will is going to be your Dad for real, now lay down.” She said and I happily obliged.
“When’s the wedding?” I asked, feeling giddy now.
“Your Mother wants to do it Monday.” Dad answered.
“Am I gonna be able to come?” I asked with a frown.
“We’ll talk to the doctor and I’ll let him know we’ll have a doctor on property.” Mom said with a wink. I giggled and shook my head.
“I’m so excited! Can I wear my light pink dress?” I asked and they just laughed.
“Yes you can wear your pink dress.” Mom said.
The next day Dad came to pick me up at the hospital, since Mom convinced them that I’d be fine at home. He came into my room holding a bad and my light pink dress. I looked at him confused and he just smiled at me.
“I thought you’re getting married on Monday?” I asked and he nodded as he set the things now.
“We were, but David overheard and we’re gonna get married in his yard. Mom thinks it’s just a party.” He said and I squealed in excitement.
“Help me get ready?” I asked and he nodded. Dad helped me get dressed and told me I needed to take it easy tonight. The doctor gave us some crutches as a just in case, but I didn’t really think I needed to use them. Dad insisted on bringing them anyway.
“Come on, we’re meeting your mom and Henry there.” Dad said and I nodded. He helped me in the car and we were off.
When we pulled up to David’s house I was so excited! I couldn’t believe my Mom was getting married to someone who actually liked and cared about me too. It’s all the two of us ever wanted. I got out and rushed over to my mom. I hugged her tightly and she laughed.
“Well you’re feeling better.” She said and I smiled up at her.
“I am! Look what Dad brought me to wear.” I said and did a spin.
“I thought you wanted to wear that tomorrow.” She frowned and I nodded.
“I still can, but this way the whole team can see how pretty I am.” I joked and she shook her head with a laugh.
“Y/N, the doctor said to take it easy.” Dad said coming up to us.
“I am.” I said and he shook his head.
“Running to your Mama is not taking it easy. Don’t make me make you use the crutches.” He said and I groaned.
“Okay, I’ll be good, promise!” I said and both my parents laughed.
“Come on, let’s go inside.” Mom said and we all held hands. We walked inside and into the backyard.
“Hey.” Mom said when she saw David.
“Someone knows how to throw a party. You don’t mess around.” Mom said as she gave him a hug.
“What can I tell ya? I’m the host with the most.” He said as he hugged her back.
“No kidding.” Mom laughed as she pulled back.
“Hey, look who’s here.” David said and Grandma walked up next to him.
“Mom?” Mom asked and Grandma just smiled.
“Okay, what’s-what’s going on?” Mom asked Dad.
“Well we couldn’t get married without your Mama.” He answered.
“I might’ve overheard a proposal yesterday?” David said.
“And I couldn’t wait till Monday.” Dad said.
“Okay so this is why you guys are so dressed up, huh?” Mom asked as she looked at me and Henry.
“Yes and you will be too. I brought something borrowed.” Grandma said, holding up a wedding dress.
“Mom, is that your dress?” Mom asked.
“It is, let’s go see if it still fits.” Grandma said.
“Can I help?” I asked and Grandma smiled at me.
“Of course!” She said and gently pulled me along.
Grandma and I helped Mom get into the dress and I was so excited. She looked absolutely beautiful. I’ve always wanted this for my Mom and I literally couldn’t be happier for her.
“Mom you look so pretty.” I said and she smiled with happy tears in her eyes.
“Thank you Sweetie.” She said and kissed my head. Once everything was ready Mom, Grandma, and Myself were walking downstairs and out the back door. Dad stood there with Henry at the alter with a man there to marry them. Grandma let go of Mom when we reached the front and I went to as well, but Mom stopped me. She pulled me up with her and I stood right by her as she married my now official Dad. I cried when they kissed and hugged them both tightly. I finally had a full family.
We all sat down to eat and everyone was talking among themselves. I sat next to Henry and Jack, who I was so excited to see. The three of us were all talking and slightly playing pretend. I was about nine years older than Jack and eleven years older than my brother, but I loved spending time with them. Dad clinked his glass to gain everyone’s attention and stood up. Everyone looked over to him and he smiled.
“I’d like to thank everyone for being with us tonight and sharing in our special day.” He started and smiled down at Mom, who was holding his other hand.
“But I still have one more surprise for my two very special girls.” He said. Mom and I both looked at him confused and he motioned for me to come over to him. I stood up and walked next to him.
“Y/N, I know you care for your Mama a lot and I’m so glad you gave us your blessin’ before we even had to ask.” He said and everyone chuckled.
“But I’d like to make everything more official and ask you and your Mama if it’d be alright if I officially became your Daddy and adopted you.” He said and I gasped with tears in my eyes.
“R-Really?” I asked and looked between them.
“Yes really. You’re Mama and I have been talkin’ about it for some time now and I said if we ever got married I’d like to adopt you as my own.” He said and I hugged him tightly.
“Yes! Yes! A million times yes!” I cried, not able to hold in my tears. Dad wrapped his arms around me and gently squeezed me.
“We already started the paperwork incase this day ever came, so we just gotta get a court date and make it offical.” Mom said, standing up. I turned around and hugged her tightly, not realizing I was crying into her dress.
“Thank you, Mom!” I cried and she gently rubbed my back. Dad wrapped us both in a hug and kissed my head.
“Why is Y/N/N crying?” Henry asked and Dad went and picked him up.
“They’re happy tears, buddy.” He said and I pulled back to smile at him and wipe my eyes.
“Very happy tears.” I said and everyone chuckled. This was not only my Mom’s perfect day, it was mine too.

It was an expression she’d never only really seen on JJ once before, it was a face of recognition.
“Welcome to the club,” JJ pulled his hat down over his eyes as he said, “too broke to be Kook, and apparently now, too orphaned to be a Pogue.”

Sequel to Sublime messages
Big love to @zaxagra for beta-ing and friendship ❤
Emily chewed her lip. “I don’t know, Morgan. It’s not a lot you can do when there are cracks in the foundation.” Morgan rolled his eyes. “No offense, Prentiss, but you don’t know shit about construction." Or The gang is back, stronger and sillier than ever, and this time they have to deal with the emotional fallout of what happened with Ian Doyle. Pairing: Spencer Reid x Female BAU!Reader
Requested: yes
Summary: After telling a white lie to your family about your relationship status, your forced to beg your coworker Spencer to pretend to be your boyfriend for a weekend wedding.
Warnings: Light smut at the end, penetrative sex, creampie, mentions of Spencer's childhood.
A/N: Thank you for the request on this one! Ever since I rewatched Season 7 and saw Spencer dancing with everyone at JJ's wedding I've been thinking non-stop about him just holding you close like that and I'm going to shut up now because 8k words of that is more than enough lmao.
You can find my masterlist here, and I just started posting all my stuff on AO3 as well, so if you prefer to read there, check it out!
Despite knowing about your brother’s impending nuptials for the last 18 months, it was in the final two-week stretch that you actually started panicking about getting the date that you’d promised them. It was one sweet little white lie that you had made that had just spiraled out of control, but you’d yet to actually manifest the secretive boyfriend who was “very real actually, mom, he’s coming to the wedding actually.”
It was that statement that had sealed your fate, and always one to wear your emotions on your face when you weren’t on a case, it wasn’t long before someone noticed your building anxiety and guilt.
“Okay, spill Y/N. You look like you just witnessed your favorite author kick a puppy or a kitten or something,” Penelope said when you dropped some files off in her room that morning, spinning around on her chair to face you as soon as she caught your reflection in her monitor.
“It’s this wedding I have to go to,” you sighed dramatically, falling into one of the other chairs in the room kept for visitors.
“Want me to help you get out of it?” Penelope offered, patting your hand comfortingly.
“I’m not sure my brother would be too pleased about that, since it’s his wedding and all. My mother would drag me down all the way from here herself if she had to.”
“Okay, so a no-show is a no-go. Then what gives, my sweet avenging angel? There has to be something serious to get you looking all glum.”
You sighed and ran a hand through your hair before straightening up and leaning into Penelope more, creating an air of secrecy.
“Promise you won’t tell?”
“Oh sweetie, if only you knew the secrets these four walls held,” she replied dramatically, pulling a laugh from you.
“Last year, I was so, I don’t know, jealous I guess, of all the attention my brother and his fiancee were getting because of the wedding, and it just felt like every time my mom called me, she would only want to talk about them because of the wedding. I felt left out, and I already live so far away anyway, so it’s hard to have that connection with people back home, so I might have told a small, tiny, inconsequential lie that now actually has consequences?” Your face flushes at the confession, and you can see Penelope trying her best not to blurt out her thoughts, intent on letting you continue.
“I told her I was seeing this guy. He’s amazing, he works in the FBI just like me, and he’s smart, and he takes me on dates to these amazing places, like museums and interesting restaurants and to book fairs. I told her he was handsome and that he looked at me like I put the stars in the night sky, and he just doesn't exist, Penelope. And now I have to disappoint my mother again by turning up to my brother's wedding without a date.”
“Oh sweetheart,” was all she said for a minute, and the sympathetic look on her face made you want to run out of there immediately.
“I know, I know, I need to tell her the truth, but I don’t want to do it at the wedding and spoil her happiness. She loves weddings.”
“And this fake boyfriend is supposed to be your plus-one?” she asked.
“My invitation read ‘To our darling sister and her mystery man,’” you groaned, wondering how you could have been so childish in the first place. You’d acted like any child on a playground would, inventing lies to make yourself seem more important and cooler.
“I think I have the perfect solution for you, angel, but you might not like it,” Penelope grinned from her chair, leaning back and playing with the pen in her hands nefariously as if she’d been waiting for this chance her whole life. You didn’t trust that look, but you had no other option, so you took a deep breath and listened to her plan.
–X–
Three days later, and you were suddenly pacing the hallways with a coffee and a croissant, poised and ready to kidnap an FBI Agent the second he passed you.
At first, you’d laughed at the suggestion she’d made, outlandish as it was. But 72 hours of reflection, and a timely phone call from your mother, and suddenly you were on board and ready to lock on to your target. You stopped pacing when you heard the elevator ding, signaling the arrival of Spencer Reid. You were thankful that his schedule was so regular and timed down to the minute that you had just enough time to ambush him in the hallway before any other member of your team noticed.
“Spencer! Here I bought you coffee and a croissant from that cafe I mentioned a while back,” you panicked, unloading the gifts into his arms quickly, taking him off guard, before checking left and right before pushing him into the nearest empty room and shutting it behind you.
“Good morning to you, too, Y/N. Is there a reason we’re in a closet right now?” he asked, looking down at you with knitted eyebrows.
“Yes,” you gumped, afraid to say anymore.
“Are you going to tell me what the reason is?”
“I need you to be my boyfriend for a weekend,” you finally blurted out.
“You need me to… Just for a weekend?” He looked confused, and you felt your cheeks flame up, as you tried your best to explain the situation for him.
“My brother is getting married in LA this weekend, and I need a date. I told my mom last year that I was in a relationship with a really great guy who also works for the FBI.”
“Oh. So, you broke up with him and don’t want to tell your mom?”
“No, he never existed. Long story, I can explain on the plane, but I really need you to come with me! I’ll pay for everything, and I’ll even get you this coffee and any pastry of your choice every day for a month, please, please, please!” You begged him, so desperate that you were moments away from dropping to your knees and grabbing his leg, refusing to move until he acquiesced. You didn’t have to in the end.
“Oh, sure, I’ll go. When did you say it was?” Your jaw fell open in shock, and it took a few seconds to pull yourself back together as you reacted to his words.
“This weekend? The flight is tomorrow at 6 a.m.” You smiled sheepishly as his eyes bugged out of his head.
“This weekend? What were you going to do if I said no?” He laughed at you a little, taking a sip of the coffee you bought him.
“Honestly? Plan B was to cry, and plan C was to kill off my mystery man in a freak accident.”
“Wow, we just started fake dating and you’re already trying to bump me off.” His smile made you burn hotter than before, as you playfully hit his arm in response.
“Stop saying we’re dating. I pulled you in here to ask you privately because I didn’t want weird rumors circulating in the office,” you pouted.
“Then you better let me out of the closet, Y/N, before people think we’re doing something we shouldn’t be. At least three people saw you drag me in here, you know.”
With that, you rush to open the door and run out, shouting a reminder back at him.
“Just be ready, okay. I’ll see you at the airport at 6 a.m.”
–X–
The flight, despite being ridiculously long, was altogether quite pleasant, and you made it back to California in one piece, Spencer trailing behind you like a lost puppy for a while, letting you take up the role of “airport dad” as you guided him through the airport and to the hotel where the wedding was being held.
“So what’s our cover story?” He asked in the taxi on the way there, breaking the comfortable silence.
“What cover story?” you asked, looking up at him from your phone, still focused on just getting to the destination.
“Where did we meet, how long have we been dating, how much do they know about me?” He listed off the possible questions that his parents were absolutely going to interrogate him with soon. “I need to prepare so we don’t get caught out, right?”
“Oh, right. Based on what I told them, we met at work and we’ve been seeing each other casually for about a year now. I didn’t give them a name yet, which annoys my mom to no end, but I was always pretty private as a child so she didn’t find it all that suspicious. Other than that, they don’t know that much about my mystery boyfriend apart from the things we’ve done together.” He listened attentively as you spoke, taking each of your words in and committing them to memory.
“What was our first date?” He asked.
“Coffee shop. That place I got you the coffee from earlier, it’s called Flondon. I’m a regular there, so it made sense to use it in my story.”
“What else have we done together?”
“There was a book fair in New York a few months back that we, uh, spent the weekend at. You surprised me for my birthday with the tickets.”
“Wow, so I’m a really great boyfriend then.” He joked a little, and you let out another groan of annoyance at his teasing. You didn’t get the chance to finish your conversation though, as the taxi finally pulled up to the hotel.
You climbed out of the taxi after paying the driver, Spencer having already left to grab your bags, before walking into the foyer of the hotel.
“Y/N, just one last thing before we go in,” he stopped you at the door, grabbing you by the arm gently. “Are we… the, um. Hotels tend to get booked up pretty early for weddings, and I’m sure your family will be suspicious if we don’t share a room so…”
He didn’t have to finish voicing his thoughts before you were cursing, not having made the connection before.
“Shit, you’re right. My brother made the booking for me months ago. We just have to go in and get the room key but I totally forgot… It’s fine, right? We’ve roomed together on cases, haven’t we?” You asked, looking up at him.
“No, we haven’t. 67% of our motel bookings allow for single occupation rooms for Agents, I end up sharing a room with Morgan for 15% of overnight stays where double occupation is necessary, Hotch for another 17%, and the remaining 1% is made up of outliers where I had to share with Rossi or Prentiss, but we…we haven’t shared before.” He gestured between the two of you for a moment there, letting the facts sit with you.
“Spencer, it’s okay with me, is it okay with you? I understand if you’re not comfortable with it. We can just turn around now if you want.”
“No, no it’s totally fine. I just wanted to make sure you’re comfortable with it. Morgan says I snore, so I guess I’m not the best roommate in the world.” He smiled at you then, reassuringly, and moved his hand down your arm until it reached your hand.
You looked down at where his hand had entwined with yours and your heart gave a little jolt. Spencer didn’t like physical touch, and you knew that. You tried not to initiate any contact with him, despite being a touchy person, but there had been times after particularly tough cases and with close calls where you’d thrown yourself into the nearest person's arms, and he always happened to be near.
But those hugs had been thoughtless, natural reactions to stressful situations and this was intentional, and more importantly, he’d started it.
“Sorry, I just assumed we should get used to, uh, touching each other, I guess? We’re going to be doing it all weekend, you know, might as well start now.” He gave you an awkward closed-lip smile, and you giggled at his awkward explanatory tone. Squeezing his hand a bit, you grabbed your suitcase again in your free hand, and pushed open the door with your shoulder, pulling Spencer in behind you.
The lobby was filled with people arriving for the wedding, and you instantly spotted three cousins and two aunts from across the room, giving them a little smile as you made your way to the reception desk, Spencer right at your side.
“Hi, reservation for Y/N L/N, please.”
“Sister of the groom, right? Your mother asked me to give her a call when you arrived. Please wait one minute.” She handed you your key, and you felt yourself go pale, turning around to Spencer for reassurance.
“Oh god, she’s coming now, what do we do?”
“Y/N, calm down, it’s okay, we knew we were going to have to see your mom tonight at the reception anyways.”
“You’re right. Okay, right. Okay.” You breathed out, as Spencer wrapped his other arm around you, holding you in a closer embrace while keeping your hands locked together.
“One of my aunts is looking at us. She looks like she wants to say something. Oh god, she’s coming over, Spencer act natural,”
“Saying act naturally is actually counter-active-” but he didn’t have time to finish before you had turned to greet the older woman, disentangling yourself from Spencer’s arms as you hugged the woman warmly.
“It’s so good to see you, Y/N, you know how we all worry about you doing that job of yours. The other week we saw you on the news about that tragedy with the young girl…” she trailed off, giving you a worrying look before quickly shifting her gaze to her actual target, Spencer.
“I think I saw you too, young man. You must be Y/N’s boyfriend,” she smiled at him, waiting to hear a response so she could return to the other matrons with the gossip.
“Yeah, nice to meet you, I’m Spencer.” You could tell he was thankful that the woman hadn’t stuck her hand out to shake his, as he positioned himself mostly behind you, keeping his hands occupied by letting one settle on your hip and the other keeping a hold of your suitcase.
“Spencer? Spencer Reid?” You heard your mother before you saw her, turning around in your place to finally see her, as Spencer whipped his head around as well. “I’ve heard so much about you. It’s so wonderful to finally meet you.”
Your mother had none of the restraint of your aunt, and unfortunately, you’d inherited your clingy side from her, which is why she immediately swooped in to give Spencer a hug. To his credit, he greeted her warmly as well and didn’t avoid the touch, but he kept it short and polite nonetheless.
“Mom, how did you know…”
“You tell me about your coworkers all the time, I’m just surprised I didn’t work it out sooner. I always said that you talked about that Spencer with a fond tone, you should ask your father, he’ll tell you that I did.” You rolled your eyes at your mother’s words, doing your best to avoid Spencer’s gaze. He’d fallen back into place by your side as you greeted your mother.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you, You know, Y/N has been keeping you as this big secret for the last year, and it’s so nice to see that you’re actually real. You’re here!” She sounded so excited for you that your heart almost broke under the weight of your guilt, knowing that you’d have to come clean at some point after the wedding. As it was, you were already going to have to try really hard to avoid the photographer and videographer throughout the night so you didn’t have to be constantly reminded of your idiocy whenever your mother got the photo albums out,
“Sorry, the two of you are probably exhausted after that flight, right? Go and get yourself unpacked. The rehearsal dinner is at 8 p.m. so we’ll catch up then, sweetheart.” She left in a whirlwind, having deposited you next to the elevators, and left you with no other option but to do exactly as she said, making your way to your space for the weekend.
–X–
The following few hours had been a little awkward, to say the least. You’d awkwardly pulled away from one another in the elevator up to the room, apologizing for invading each other's personal space. The room was a decent size, but still small enough that you’d be constantly tripping up over one another the entire weekend if you weren’t careful.
Reid carefully unpacked his tuxedo when you got into the room, and then quietly informed you that he’d need a shower. You’d unpacked your own things while he did, trying not to listen to the water flowing over his body in the next room. His earlier touch had ignited something in you, and your heart was beating at his every gesture now, something that you were sure it hadn’t done before.
What was it about weddings that made you so open to even the possibility of romance that even someone so off-limits could become the object of your affection?
So you tried not to listen, not to wonder why it was taking the man so long to just take a shower, not to let your mind wander to a place where it was perfectly acceptable to wonder what he looked like in that shower, and you unpacked and organized your things.
“Hey, Y/N, I’m really sorry but I forgot to bring my clothes with me,” he called awkwardly through the door a few minutes after you heard the water turn off, and you turned to the bathroom, not expecting the sight before you.
You’d assumed from the quiet volume of his voice that he was calling from within the bathroom itself, but instead, he stood awkwardly in front of you, a towel wrapped around his waist and torso, held together desperately in one hand.
“Oh shit, sorry, I’ll just turn around, I guess,” you stumbled over the words, dragging your eyes back up to his face as you did so, whipping yourself around to stare ahead of you.
“No, no, it’s my fault. I was so hasty I forgot my outfit for tonight. It’s okay.” You heard him fumble for his clothes and return to the bathroom quickly with another mumbled apology, finally allowing you to let out a deep, almost dreamy sigh, startling yourself. Mentally chastising yourself once again, you finished your organizing and let yourself fall onto the bed in the middle of the room sleepily while you waited for him to come out again.
You must have dozed off a little because you woke with a jolt when you felt a soft touch on your arm. There he was above you, a soft and concerned look on his face as he woke you up as kindly as he could.
“Y/N, it’s 7 p.m. We need to get ready for the rehearsal.” He whispered as if he weren’t too bothered if you didn’t want to go down at all, content to let you sleep. But you forced yourself upright anyways, and nodded at his words, swiftly moving yourself towards the bathroom he had since departed.
“Thanks for waking me, Spence,” You rubbed the sleep out of your eyes, gathering your towels and change of clothes before turning back to him. In the four hours you’d apparently been dead to the world, he’d managed to dry his hair, change his clothes, and, from the looks of the book on the bedside table, read through an entire book twice.
He noticed you looking and cleared his throat. “Sorry, you looked so tired I didn’t want to wake you, so I just sat here and read while you got some sleep.”
“It’s okay, Spence. I guess I was pretty tired. I’m gonna go…” you gestured towards the shower and stepped towards it with an awkward smile, not letting him answer before you had closed the door between you and taken a deep breath, setting thoughts of him aside for the night before you focused on getting yourself ready to face your lies.
An hour later, you were making your way back down to the lobby, having received a text from your brother that that was where everyone was gathering before making their way to the dining room. Spencer offered you his arm in the elevator on the way down.
“Here, grab my arm.” He said softly down to you, a sweet smile playing on his lips.
“Oh yeah that makes sense,” you said distractedly, looping your own through his and leaning into him.
“It’ll also stop you from picking your nails,” he joked.
“I don’t pick my nails!”
“You so do. You do it when you’re nervous and when you lie about something. Last month on that case in Chicago when that officer asked for your number, you told him you had a boyfriend and started picking your nails,” he laughed down at you, enjoying your pouting face a bit too much as he profiled you.
“You’re one to talk. The last time a woman asked you out, you started rambling about the linguistic history of the phrase “go out,” in the romantic sense. She stood there for five minutes before she gave up.”
“Wait, when did that happen? I don’t remember any woman trying to ask me out.”
“Then you’re even denser than I realized, Doctor Reid, because they do it constantly.” Your back and forth ended there, though, as the elevator doors finally opened into the lobby. You smoothed out your dress and tried your best to act natural as the two of you made your entrance.
“Y/N! Over here,” you heard your brother and saw him wave at you from the other side of the room, his fiancee next to him receiving guests.
“It’s been so long since I saw my kid sister. Get over here,” he smiled at you, beckoning you over, and you released your hold on Reid to give your brother a warm hug.
“Now who is this kid sister you’re talking about because last I checked you’re only 18 months older than me.”
“18 months, 18 years, all that matters is that I am, in fact, the older one,” he released you from the bear hug and glanced up to Reid, standing awkwardly watching the scene waiting for an invitation to the conversation. “Holy shit, you’re real.”
“Hey! Be nice. This is Spencer, he’s my… he’s my boyfriend, we work together.” You felt your cheeks flame as you introduced the two of them, your brother looking at Spencer through knitted eyebrows, taking on a faux protective stance.
“Spencer, hey. Mom mentioned you were here earlier, but I didn’t think you’d be so gangly… It’s my wedding, and I’ve been told I have to keep all threats to a minimum, but if I see you getting all handsy with my sister, just know that I have a blackbelt in jiu-jitsu.”
“No, you don’t. You have a yellow belt in karate at most, and you got that at age 10.” You laughed at the man.
“And whose fault is that?”
“Oh my god, it’s been almost 20 years, I already apologized!”
“Apologised for what?” Spencer finally managed to butt in, watching your sibling bickering as if it were a tennis match.
“This little rodent,” your brother said, scruffing up your hair as he spoke, “broke my wrist when she was 8 and I was 10.”
“It was self-defense! You were trying to use your karate moves on me and I panicked!”
“And now, you’re a hot-shot FBI Agent and you get to break bad guys wrists all the time.” He finished for you and you laughed, suddenly glad to be back around family.
“So, Spencer, you’re an FBI Agent, too? I thought my mom mentioned something about you being a Doctor earlier.”
“I am. A Doctor. And an FBI Agent, uh, they’re PhD’s not medical degrees, though. Three of them, Math, Chemistry and Engineering. I also have Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology, Philosophy, and Sociology.” He answered, and you looked up at him proudly, taking his hand as you noticed him growing slightly uncomfortable with the attention from your brother.
“Wow,” was all your brother said, until he finished the statement with “All those degrees and my sister was the best you could do, huh?” You punched him in the arm after that, and you felt Spencer physically relax a bit, twinning your fingers with his as you chastised your brother.
“Anyway, thanks for taking the time to come to our, hopefully, lovely wedding, the reception will be starting soon. The dining hall is just through there.” You hugged your brother again, and, with a breath of relief, led Spencer down the hall to the dining hall.
“That went well, I think?” you whispered to him, conspiratorially.
“Your family is nice,” he replied. “Does he always act like that, or is it the wedding spirit possessing him somehow?”
“If you’re referring to my brother, I think he’s probably partaken in a few flutes of champagne already this evening. But yes, he’s always like that. They all like to treat me like a baby when they see me.”
“I think it’s nice. They care about you a lot,” his words were warm, but his eyes were sad, and you remembered what you’d been told of Spencer’s own childhood and felt your heart ache for him. His mom loved him a lot, but Spencer had needed to grow up much too fast. You squeezed his hand, still clasped in yours and before you knew it you were pushing onto your tiptoes to press a kiss to his cheek.
“Thank you, Spencer. For being here,” you said as his now flushed face met yours. You didn’t let him respond though, simply pushing forward into the dining hall, ready to live in the fantasy of your own making for the evening.
–X–
“Spencer, you were amazing!” You giggled, walking down the hall to your room, stumbling slightly in your excitement and haste.
“Those magic tricks? The little babies couldn’t get enough of you,” you spun around, wrapping your arms around the man’s neck and pulling him in close to you, letting him hold you against the door to your room. He laughed a little at your antics as he pulled out the key card.
“Y/N, are you drunk?” he asked, one hand firmly planted on your waist to steady you now.
“No! I’m just happy. And if that happiness was caused by an array of cocktails forced into my hands by distant aunts and cousins who all wanted to know about my absolute catch of a boyfriend, then that is simply secondary to the feeling itself. And furthermore-” He pushed the door behind you in on itself, and your words were cut off by your legs giving out beneath you.
You were so sure you were about to take a tumble to the floor that you shut your eyes tight and braced for an impact that didn’t come. Opening them again slowly, you saw Spencer closer than before, his face mere inches from your own as he held you in an improvised dip, having caught you just before you’d hit the ground.
“Sorry. I… Shit, maybe I am drunk,” you breathed out, not letting your eyes drift from his own, knowing that if you ever considered a glance down at his lips at that moment, you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from closing the measly distance separating you.
“You should use the bathroom first,” he told you, but without making any move of his own, stuck in that pose with you as if he was content to stay there for as long as he could hold you. “You should take your make-up off. We have a long day tomorrow, right?”
You were the first one to move, letting your feet find a more solid footing beneath you and twisting up from his grip. His hands didn’t leave your body as you became more upright though, still keeping you in that close embrace.
“Yeah, I should… I should go wash up.” You said, and he nodded, still looking at you with the same intensity as before.
“Spencer, that means you need to move,” you whispered quietly, and he jumped back as soon as the words were out of your mouth.
“Sorry. I’ll just… I’ll just be over there,” he held his hands up in surrender before moving further into the room, leaving you next to the bathroom.
Fifteen minutes later, you emerged from the bathroom and were ready to sleep once again. Thankfully, you of earlier that day had managed to store your pajamas in the bathroom ready for their use. Upon exiting the bathroom, you saw that Spencer was getting ready to sleep too, slacks and a shirt having been replaced by a pair of flannel pants and a very old and beaten-up CalTech sweater, looking perplexedly down at the bed.
“Spence, what’s wrong?”
“We didn’t speak any further about the sleeping arrangements…” he mumbled and you looked at the bed in front of you, still confused at his meaning. “Y/N, we have to share the bed.”
“Oh.” You knew you probably sounded dumb, but after the amount of alcohol thrust upon you that night, that was all you could muster at this point.
“I can sleep on the floor if that makes you feel more comfortable. It’s probably no worse than some of the motel beds we’ve stayed on before,” he offered, but you instantly shook your head.
“No, I dragged you out here, I’m not making you sleep on the floor as well,” you sighed and made your way to the side of the bed you’d slept on earlier, beginning to pull the covers down so you could get in.
“What are you doing?” Spencer asked, perplexed by your somehow contrasting words and actions.
“I’m getting ready for bed. It’s late.” You replied, not looking up at him again, for fear that he’d spot the blush on your face. “You should too,” you continued, patting the other side of the bed, gesturing for him to get in, too.
“Oh.” It was his turn to stand there shell-shocked in the moment, and you almost let out a giggle but held back thinking that would be too much for him to take in at that moment.
“Come on, Spence, I’m tired, I’m sure you’re tired. We’re just sharing a bed, it’s not like you have to marry me after this.” You climbed fully into the bed, making sure that your nightgown covered you decently before pulling the covers up around you. Spencer mumbled something that you didn’t catch, but he acquiesced and climbed in after you. You turned your head over on the pillow to face him, turning onto your side as you watched him turn his head to you as well.
“What?” he smiled, noticing your stare.
“Nothing. Good night, Spence,” you smiled, finally letting your eyes drop closed.
“Good night, Y/N.” He whispered, and the sound of his voice carried you off to sleep.
–X–
You weren’t sure if it was the light streaming in through the window or the rise and fall of a chest that wasn’t your own was the first thing to wake you in the morning, but nonetheless, you woke from the comfortable warmth of sleep and found yourself wrapped around your fake boyfriend.
To be fair to yourself, he was also wrapped around you. Your head had gravitated from your pillow to his chest, his left arm wrapped up and around your back. Your leg had also risen in the night, pulled up over his waist, held in place by his other arm, which was, almost embarrassingly, cradling your ass, pulling you in closer to his core. Unsure about how to go about disentangling yourself, you resigned yourself to just waking the man up.
“Spencer… Spencer,” you whispered, letting the hand that had fallen onto his chest tap him slightly. He stirred a little and then cracked an eye open, looking confused with the situation.
“Y/N, is it time for the wedding?” He asked through half-lidded eyes, evidently wanting nothing more than to fall back into whatever dreams he was having. You shifted uncomfortably in his arms then, suddenly growing stiff in the position you’d probably held for hours, and found your nightgown had risen dangerously high on your body, his hand on your near bare ass.
“No, no, it’s just…” You rolled your hips against his in discomfort, and the movement had his eyes breaking open as he finally took in your positions.
“Shit, I’m….Sorry, I don’t know what happened, I must’ve grabbed you when we were sleeping,” he said, reluctantly slipping his hands away from your body, trailing his hand around your leg, and letting it fall onto his stomach. The movement sent a shiver up your spine, as you finally had enough room to lift your torso up, not quite ready to relinquish the proximity of your entire body yet.
“It’s okay, I think it was probably me who started it in the first place. Those pillows weren’t that comfortable…” you tried to explain, the hand on his chest rubbing slow circles into his skin before you could realize what you were doing.
He pushed himself up into a sitting position then as well, clumsily. With your legs still wrapped around his waist, you had no choice but to move with him, suddenly finding yourself straddling him, the bedsheets suddenly pressed away from your body. If he looked down, he’d see a lot more than you planned for him to see, your panties on clear display as your nightgown twisted itself up into the sheets.
“Shit sorry,” he moaned out again, as you steadied yourself with hands on his shoulders.
“No, it’s okay, I didn’t move quick enough.” You quickly pulled your dress down again, and extracted yourself from the bed, lifting your leg up and off of him and finally pushing off the bed, leaving him sat there.
His hands fell into his lap and you started gathering things around the room, readying yourself for the busy day ahead.
“I have to be in the bridal suite at 11, so we have about… two hours to kill before then. Do you want to grab a shower first, or should I?”
“You first,” he mumbled quickly, before clearing his throat and trying again. “You should go first. You probably have more to do today, right?” You nodded at his words and made your way to the bathroom again. Out of the corner of your eye though, as you let the door close behind you, you watched his hands come up to cradle his flushed face, as he let his head fall back again into the pillow.
–X–
The morning was so busy after that, you barely had any chance to talk to Spencer again. You spent the early afternoon in the bridal suite with the wedding party, welcoming your new sister to the family, then made your way to the aisle space set up outside, checking up on last-minute details and helping to flower girls into position. You weren’t walking down the aisle yourself, but you could see that the extra help was letting the very stressed-out Maid of Honour get some well-needed respite. And more importantly, it stopped your wandering thoughts from letting you fantasize about Spencer.
You’d woken up in bed next to people before, of course, but it had never felt so comfortable. In fact, other people you’d slept with said you were pretty distant in your sleep, choosing to move as far away from physical touch as you could get, but you knew with no doubt that you had been the one to move in first, to touch him first. That he’d pulled you even closer had your heart singing, and you wanted to be wrapped up in him all over again, suddenly desperate to seek him out. So you distracted yourself, not wanting to make any mistakes you would regret when you were no longer wrapped up in your own fantasy.
So you kept your distance as the ceremony started. Then the wedding march was playing, and you were holding back tears as his hand slipped into yours, your head falling onto his shoulder as you watched your brother marry the love of his life.
You kept your distance as you reached the reception hall, watching all the old ladies on both sides fawn over him, asking him questions, and watching from his side as he blushed at the attention. You swept the hair out of his eyes as the couple was announced, and you took your seat for the wedding meal and the speeches, his hand falling to your back to guide you to your chair, pulling it out for you like a true gentleman.
You kept your distance as your new sister tossed the bouquet, and despite your low effort and the ravenous looks of the bridesmaids, it fell neatly into your hands as if it belonged there. You ran excitedly over to him to show him and he lifted you into a hug, caught up in your own excitement.
You kept your distance until you realized you’d not kept your distance at all, physically unable to keep yourself away from the man who had somehow stolen your heart in the middle of the night.
“I know that look,” your brother said, somehow sneaking up on you later into the night as you watched Spencer perform even more of his magic tricks for the smaller guests.
“What look?” you asked, not for one second letting your eyes drift from Spencer.
“You’re in love with him,” he said, taking a swig of the drink in his hand.
“He’s my boyfriend,” you said reflexively, turning to the drinks table behind you and picking up one for yourself.
“No, he isn’t. Or at least he wasn’t before this weekend,” your brother said, as your eyes finally snapped up to him.
“Oh, don’t act all surprised, Miss FBI Profiler. You may be good, but I’ll always be your older brother, and contrary to popular opinion, I do in fact pay attention to things.” You sighed and leaned back against the table.
“How’d you figure it out?”
“You were picking your nails the entire way through the reception dinner when the aunties were asking you about your relationship. You did that when we were younger too, when you tried lying to Mom and Dad about how I broke my wrist. Doesn’t take two PhD’s to figure that out.”
“Three.”
“Three what?”
“Three PhDs. He has three of them.” You sighed dreamily and ran a stressed hand through your head.
“He’s just my coworker. I didn’t want to disappoint Mom by coming alone after telling her all those stories, but now…” You tried to explain yourself but words were escaping you in that moment.
“You should tell him, trust me. He definitely feels the same.”
“How are you so confident about that? How did you manage to end up with all of the confidence between the two of us, when I can barely work up the courage to tell my own mother I’m still single?”
“Y/N, look at me. You got the brains, I had to have something. And no man flies to the opposite side of the country on a few day's notice for a girl who is just a friend, okay? That’s more logic than confidence, and that’s supposed to be your strong suit.”
You considered his words for a second, turning back to look at Spencer. Evidently, he’d finished his magic show and was beginning to say goodbye to the children, but he felt your eyes on him somehow and met your gaze. He brought his hand up into a shy wave before a little girl grabbed his attention again, and he looked at her seriously, nodding along to each word she was saying.
“Fuck, what do I do, I’m not good with… any of this.” You turned back to your brother, but he’d left you there, stranded in your own thoughts as you let yourself hope, let your brain dream that one day this would be your wedding and the man by your side would be Spencer Reid.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the bride and groom request the presence of all the couples on the dancefloor for this next song.” You saw your brother again, next to his wife, whispering his explanations in his ear as she turned to look at you and winked as well. God, they were going to be a force to be reckoned with together now, you thought, as people started pushing past you to make their way to the dancefloor.
You recognized the song of course, and it was almost so on the nose you almost rolled your eyes. More Than Words by Extreme. Perfect.
“Y/N, may I have this dance?” He had somehow snuck up on you from behind as you watched your brother, and held his hand out to you. You put your drink down and took it, letting him lead you to the dance floor.
“I didn’t think you danced, Dr. Reid,” you teased him as he pulled you in, letting his hands rest on your waist, as yours came up around his neck, gently letting him sway you side to side in time with the music.
“I don’t really, but it seemed wrong not to,” he smiled. “I’m at a wedding, with the most beautiful girl on my arm, and the couple made it very clear that we should be dancing, so here I am.” You blushed at his words as he spoke. He removed his hands from your waist, instead grasping one of yours in his own as he pulled you closer.
You stared up at him with a soft smile for a few more seconds before letting your head fall back to his chest.
“I know I’ve said it a lot this weekend, but thank you, Spencer.” You said into his shirt, letting him hold you close as the song went on.
“You don’t have to thank me, Y/N.” He insisted, and you looked up at him again. “Actually… I didn’t exactly agree to this with the best of intentions.”
Your heart lept to your throat as you stared up at him, hoping that he would take your silence as a means to continue.
“I’ve been… I thought that maybe…” he struggled to get the words out, his face aflame with the effort.
“You promised me those coffees right?” He finally stuttered out, and you were left confused and a little disappointed.
“Yeah, Spence, it’s okay, I’ll get you those coffees for the month, just like we promised.” You couldn’t help the sad smile that played on your lips as you answered him, so sure that he was about to say something else.
“No, I mean… Y/N I don’t want the coffee. I want this. I want us to go home, and make everything that you made up come true. I want to take you on a date to that coffee shop. I want to be a boyfriend you can call and tell your mom about because it’s serious and it’s going to work out between us. I even… God, I even spent the morning looking up book fairs in New York City so I could make that come true as well,” he rambled the words out and you could feel the tears forming in your eyes.
“Spencer,” you said softly, trying to get him to focus on you, but he’d started speaking and he wasn’t going to be stopped so easily.
“And if any of that creeps you out, just say the word and I’ll never mention it again. Because I know I’m not good with this, and when I feel something, I tend to feel it overwhelmingly, and Derek tells me I can be really oblivious sometimes, which I don’t really get, but-”
“Spencer,” you put a bit more force into your words this time, punctuating them with a hand on his face.
“Spencer, kiss me.” And he does. He takes your head in both of his hands, and he draws you up to him perfectly, letting your hands fall to the lapels of his suit jacket as he steals your breath away one more time. The kiss is lingering, but short, and he hesitantly backs away, looking around to spot witnesses. But you don’t care and you pull him back down for another, and another, until you’re just two lovers on the dance floor that cannot get enough of each other, gasping for breath between chaste kisses as you let him hold you there, gently swaying.
“Spencer,” you whisper finally, forehead resting on his, as the song finally draws to a close.
“Yes?”
“Spencer, take me to bed.” You tell him, and he nods. He leads you over to the bride and groom where you offer each of them a hug and a happy future before making your excuses and running away with Spencer back into the hotel like two love-drunk teenagers, a mess of giggles and stolen kisses as you stumble up to your room for the second time that weekend.
But this time, you don’t hesitate, don’t pull away. He backs you into the door and you let him hold you there, his mouth on yours, your tongues entwined as he fumbles for his key card. You fall together into the room, laughing and smiling the entire way, not letting him escape your touch.
“May I?” He asks, playing with the zipper of your dress as you kiss his cheek, his jaw, his neck, anywhere you can reach, nodding and moaning your consent. The moment the zip is pulled down, he lets you go for a second, and the dress falls straight to the floor. You're practically bare in front of him, chest exposed, neck littered with the beginning of love bites that he’s about to absolutely build upon.
“You’re beautiful.” He says, softly, wrapping his arms around you again, lifting you up so your legs can wrap around him as he delivers one more soul-crushing kiss to your lips. Your brain is a mess of emotions, your only solid thought is that you will never let him go again. You both eagerly worked on unbuttoning his shirt together, a desperate mess of breaths as he finally laid you on the bed. His hand fell to your core, tracing a finger over your sensitive nub as you begged him for more, needing to feel all of him, to devour his very existence.
He pulled himself out of his remaining clothes, lips still attached to yours, climbing over you and holding you tenderly, his arms wrapping around your body as his legs came to settle between your own. Dropping his forehead to yours, he finally spoke again, his hand dropping between the two of you to line himself up.
“Is this… are you sure?” You heard the restraint in his voice, the desperation, the love, the overwhelming lust as he held himself back, needing to hear your consent.
“Spencer, I love you,” you whispered, and he finally pushed himself into you, joining the two of you together in a moment of bliss. You shared another sweet kiss, letting him swallow each and every one of your moans as he began thrusting into you, your hips rising to meet him in your delirious pleasure.
He whispered sweet nothings in your ears, brushing the hair off your face every now and again to tell you how beautiful you looked, and how well you were doing.
“You’re so perfect, Y/N, you’re doing so good for me,” he pressed kisses against your neck with each word, keeping his pace steady as you chased your inevitable high, already clenching around his thick cock.
“Spencer, I love you,” you let the words drop from your tongue like a prayer, repeating them over and over with each thrust as small tears welled up out of your eyes. He kissed them away from your cheeks, listening to each confession as your stomach tightened and your climax spilled over you. He grabbed your waist then, leaving one hand cupping and stroking your cheek as his own thrusts grew sloppy, finally spending himself fully inside you.
“I love you, too,” he whispered into you then, unwilling to let you go for even one second. You spent the rest of the night whispering the words back and forth to one another, waiting with bated breath for the fantasy to break, for the magic of the wedding to wear off.
It never did.

please another hot wife spencer season 2 🙏i reread them constantly
One thing about the BAU team is that they love betting. Never on serious things, and they hate any negative statistics about predators, kidnappings, and serial killers, but fun betting at the office? It's harmless fun that they enjoy.
Important scenarios don't come up frequently but with Spencer setting a date for some of the team to finally meet his wife- you- there's something interesting happening.
"Nerdy, she has to be." Morgan declares his opinion. "Reid's a genius so I'm thinking they have similar personalities and levels of awkwardness."
"No, I think it's an opposites-attract situation," JJ states her position. "He doesn't care about that sort of stuff, so she must be stunning."
"He was saying he's only ever been with her," Elle recalls a conversation she and Spencer had a few days ago when he let a few details slip. "Is it realistic that he would be able to get over his nervousness and date someone gorgeous?"
Morgan chuckles. "Or date anyone at all."
"I think she's going to be really hot," JJ affirms her bet, sliding a $10 note over to Penelope.
"I think not." Morgan decides, placing his own bet. "She's going to be amazing, obviously, and very kind, but I don't think she's going to be overly pretty."
They turn to look at Elle to place her bet. "A 7." She decides.
"Alright, we'll see." Penelope ends the bickering between them.
~
Spencer holds your hand as you walk through the crowded bar. Usually, he likes you walking in front of him, but since he's the only one who knows what his team looks like, he's pulling you through the bar.
He stops in front of a group of people, and you stand next to him. "Everyone, this is Y/n, my wife. Y/n, this is Elle, JJ, Derek, and Penelope."
They're hiding their shock well enough for two profilers, one media liaison, and one technical analyst, but the 'are you seeing this' looks they're giving each other make it obvious they're thinking the same thing. It's no doubt you're gorgeous and if people know Spencer before you, they can be shocked.
"Hi, it's so nice to meet you all." You say, waving at them.
They all greet you similarly, smiling widely and shuffling over so you and Spencer can slide into the booth next to them.
Money gets passed under the table, out of your and Spencer's eyesight. "The next round is on me." JJ declares, winking at her friends to flaunt her victory.

She Wanted You
Tumblr media
JJ Maybank x Routledge!Reader
Word Count:1.4k
Warnings:none
A/n: angst bc im boycotting watching season three LOL, not my gif
“What do you mean she left?” JJ questioned, dumbfounded. He didn’t realize it, but he was walking into a war zone. The Chateau no longer had the same feel. It was like someone sucked the air out, and pumped smog in.
With tears in his eyes, John B pointed towards his sister’s room. Sarah and Pope were lingering in there, but JJ had no idea why. The room was oddly neat, incredibly out of character of the girl who resided there. Her closet was emptier than usual, the three picture frames that once had pictures of her with her family and friends were empty. What caught JJ’s eyes next, made his mouth go dry. His breath was no longer there. The navy sweatshirt he had given her years ago was folded, on the bed, next to the pillow he always claimed during their relationship. Atop the sweatshirt was a ring from a gumball machine, an orange and green friendship bracelet made of paracord, and a pile of notes written on scraps of random papers. Every other personal belonging was missing from its spot.
JJ tore through the girl’s nightstand, and when he realized the box of her life savings was gone, he let out a string of colorful words and kicked the stand.
“Here, you should read this.” Sarah handed him a neatly written note. By the tear stains on Pope’s face, the somber tone from the kook, and JB’s raging anger, it was a farewell.
He took a deep breath, and swiped the letter from Sarah. The familiar handwriting was already pulling at his heart.
J,
I’ve rewritten this letter four times already, and I still don’t know how to put my thoughts into actual words. Firstly, I love you. I love you until the waves stop coming in. I love you so much that I knew I needed to leave. I’ve known since you wandered home with John B in third grade, and gave me all the answers (even though they were wrong) to my math homework that if there was going to be another boy in my life, he was going to have to fight you for that spot. From 7 years old, I only ever wanted you. But over the last two years, I can see that I’m not the one for you. And that is why I’m leaving. One of the only things that got me through my day was seeing you smile, but I understand that there is someone else who causes those crinkles by your eyes.
I have to leave because it’s too painful. I need time to have all your kisses leave my body, I need to leave because I can’t smell the ocean, listen to Akon and Konvict, or even wash my fucking clothes without thinking of you. I see you in body language, in the waves, in every damn aspect of my life. Not only are we ingrained on this island, but you are ingrained in me. If I’m ever going to come home I need to remove every trace.
I told you last week, I’d always be on your team, even from a distance. I need you to pursue Kiara because there is nothing more I want for you than happiness. Deep down, I know it will always be her. While that sentence feels like a shot, I’m coming to terms with it.
Don’t try to come find me, either. I won’t be going to any of the places we’ve ever talked about, I do have my secrets still. Not Yucatan, not Tybee, and certainly not Jekyll. Take care of my brother.
All my love,
Y/N
“When did you and Y/N break up?” Sarah asked. JJ couldn’t even think straight. Y/N and the boy broke up about a week ago, for that specific reason, JJ thought there was something there with Kiara. He didn’t think the girl would pick up her stuff and bolt. Leave her brother, her best friends, and the life she claimed to love.
“I, uh, initiated it last week or so,” he stuttered, “it wasn’t definite or anything, but it was insinuated I guess. We had a conversation about it, but I don’t think I ever could have said it out loud.”
“Oh,” she thought. “You know she really loved you with every bone in her body.”
He sucked in a deep breath to try to keep his tears at bay. How could he walk out to the front room and face John B. He was the reason the youngest Routledge had left. With Big John gone, she was all he had left. Hell, with Luke gone, she was all JJ had too. In some form he robbed his friends of a family member.
JJ laid down on the neatly made bed and latched onto the sweatshirt that smelled just like her. His memory flooded with images of Y/n in that sweatshirt. From it covering her bikini when they went night swimming, it being the one sweatshirt that was specifically for after she came home from school, the one thing that grounded her when she was having a rough day. JJ felt his chest start to tighten, and his hands were clammy and shaking.
“I thought you said you’d never break her heart!” JB screamed. Impeccable timing.
“John B don’t–” Sarah tried to interject.
“No Sarah, he promised. He promised me almost three years ago that if I gave him permission to date Y/n, he wouldn’t hurt her. He knew he’d be breaking more than just her heart. And now I can’t even help her pick up the pieces. I can’t fix my baby sister, the way she fixed each and every one of us!”
“Bro, you think this is what I wanted? I had a conversation with her. Nothing was definitive. It’s not my fault she took her shit and ran!”
“When has Y/n ever not taken her feelings and ran? Name one time!”
JJ sat there in thought, and there had been one time she didn’t run, and he had promised that he wouldn’t tell. He was going to anyway.
“When you disappeared. I held her while she cried herself to sleep for nights on end. So don’t act like I never treated her right. You know I did.” JB ran his hands through his hair and left the room.
“Until you decided you may have feelings for the girl who is like her big sister.” That stung.
“What’s going on?” Kie asked.
“She’s gone.” John B said. “‘Cuz JJ’s in love with you.”
~~
JJ sat in the hammock, wearing the navy sweatshirt he hadn’t worn in years. It smelled just like her. He could even feel the marks of where she rolled the sleeves and dug her thumbs into the side.
He barely remembered last week’s conversation about Kie, but never did he think that it would cause you to disappear. Y/n was so incredibly loyal. She wanted him. Every. Damn. Day. She wanted him when the clouds were out, and the usually blue sky was gray. She wanted him when he was bruised and beat up, she wanted him when he was crabby after a 14 hour shift, she wanted him at every hour of the day in any way she could have him.
It was just a conversation, he thought. He never flat out said that he was leaving her for the tanned, wealthy kook.
He felt so fucking stupid. He felt so much self-hatred. He remembered when they were 12 and 14, and Y/n wanted to walk to the gas station a few streets over, but John B wouldn’t go with her. He remembered what she usually bought. Peach iced tea, sour straws and a bag of munchie mix. Every single time.
He remembered when the girl got drunk for the first time and dialed him to come get her. God, she was so inebriated. She clung to the boy, giggling profusely. That was the first night she ever told the boy she loved him. Y/n never knew it, but JJ kept that memory locked in his head.
He pondered the time she was ready to give him her virginity. He remembered how nervous she was, but how much she trusted him.
It had grown dark by the time he wandered back into the Chateau. He was surprised JB didn’t kick him out, he fully expected to be out on the streets by now. As he stumbled towards the bedrooms, he went past his own, and fully dove into the light purple sheets he had come to love. She’ll come back, he thought. She has to.

Let’s talk about how important JJ is to the team, especially in earlier seasons
In the earlier seasons of Criminal Minds, every person has a role, Reid is the brains, Garcia is the tech genius, Morgan and Elle/Emily act as the tactical team and Hotch and Rossi/Gideon act as the leaders. Everybody talks about these roles but people don’t realise how important JJ really was
JJ acted as the communications liaison between the press and police and this role is extremely important. JJ was the reason the team heard any of the cases that they did, it was her who decided what they should and shouldn’t hear. She didn’t get to go on holidays (seen end of season 1) because she had to stay behind and keep looking at cases. She had to read hundreds of horrible cases, looking at the most horrific evidence and making the decision by herself as to which ones were the most important
She then had to control the press which is extremely difficult to do during any case because the press are like pariahs; they often don’t care about the moral implications as long as the story they are selling is successful. She had the job of controlling them so that they didn’t tamper with the case, on top of everything else she had to do
Then, she was in charge of telling the families that their loved ones didn’t make it; she took the brunt of any aggression and blame that they placed and had to keep her emotions completely in check whilst this happened
Finally, on top of all of this, she had to act as a field agent when needed
She did so much yet never actually got any credit from the fans for what it is that she did. If you want to be reminded about how hard her job is, season 4 episode 7 onwards gives you a good reminder

For Y/N and Harry, Sundays were sacred - a precious day of peace amidst the chaos of their busy lives. It was the one day of the week they cherished above all else, a day in which Harry had no sidemen shoots and Y/N wasn't stuck halfway across London in a studio working late nights recording songs.
Each Sunday morning, as the sun peeked through their shutter blinds, Y/N and Harry would wake up with a sense of anticipation and excitement. The pair would brew a pot of fragrant coffee (with some independent coffee beans that Harry had picked up on his travels), the rich aroma filling their cozy kitchen as Y/N started cooking up Harry's favourite breakfast, a full English.
With their cups of coffee in hand, they would retreat to their sunlit living room, adorned with plush sofas and soft blankets, and settle in for a day of relaxation. Cuddled up together on the sofa, their legs entwined, as they indulged in some of their favourite pastimes - watching random Youtube videos they had saved to their watch later or scrolling through Tiktok, showing each other silly videos that they knew the other would find hilarious.
As the morning turned to afternoon, Harry and Y/N would muster up the energy to venture outdoors for a leisurely stroll through quiet London streets, hand in hand, breathing in the crisp air. They would visit their favourite spots - Y/N dragging Harry into overpriced clothing boutiques, him following behind, arms crossed, pretending he didn't enjoy seeing her get excited over a questionable-looking pair of shoes. Not long after, Y/N would grow tired of shopping, squeezing Harry's arm to get his attention, ''I'm hungry again, '' she’d say, to which he'd roll his eyes but would rush to fish his phone out of his pocket to find a quaint cafe on Google Maps that she could have a pastry in.
Upon returning home, they would make a simple lunch together - a spread of sandwiches, salads and soup - which they would enjoy in the comfort of their small balcony attached to their flat. Even though it was small, Y/N had decorated it with some garden furniture, fairy lights and a few plants, transforming it into an oasis of greenery and comfort. Harry hated to admit it but she had a better eye for decorating than he did.
As the sun began to set and the sky turned shades of pink and orange, they would go back inside to cozy up on their sofa, covering one another with blankets. A warm glow on their faces as they shared stories of dreams they had the night before, their voices becoming hushed in the quiet of the evening.
When the series they were watching came to an end and stars emerged in the night sky outside, Harry and Y/N would retire to their bedroom, hearts full and bodies weary from a day spent in each other's company. The pair would fall asleep wrapped in each other's arms, grateful for the precious gift of Sundays - a day to relax and revel in the love they shared.
Ready to do it all again next week.

Spencer Reid x reader
just a silly little blurb on spencer making reader feel special on v day when he finds out you’ve never celebrated valentine’s day. this is my first fic on this account but i haven’t written anything in like 3 years so please understand if this isn’t the best hope you enjoy reading it anyway! i tried to make it gender neutral i think it is. i ♡ season 7 spencer sm
__________________________________________________
It’s a few days before Valentine’s Day so the BAU is decorated for the day courtesy of Penelope and JJ who love Valentine’s Day. However unlike them you didn’t exactly have the best of luck with Valentine’s Day as you’ve never had a valentine. Ever. You walk in and sit at your desk. Morgan strolls over, cup of coffee in hand and cheerful, “Good morning sweetness any plans for the 14th?” you shake your head “Nope and that’s the way i like it” Morgan sets his coffee down right before Spencer bumps into him as he scrambles into the bullpen. “sorry” he murmurs so softly you almost don’t hear. Morgan smiles and turns back to you , “So what’s the deal? no special valentines hunk for you this year?”
“i’ve never had a valentines hunk, ever” Emily’s face twists up at the words ‘Valentine’s hunk’. “I think that scares me more than ‘Halloween honey’ did,” she chimes in. Spencer looks up from his book. he looks confused for once, “So um you’ve never had someone make you feel special on valentine’s day?” You look over at him. “Nope never.” the whole team looks pretty shocked. you shrug at them and get up to refill your coffee.
fast forward to february 14th
The conversation from the bullpen that day is still stuck in Spencer’s mind as he sets up your desk for the day. he hopes you’ll like the surprise. I mean who doesn’t like a surprise every now and then? There had been plenty of scientific articles he’d read to back that up. Humans need surprise and excitement to be happy. You walk into the bullpen and make your way to your desk not looking up from the morning paper you had bought, too interested in the comics to care about Valentine’s Day. You eventually look up so you don’t crash into someone’s desk and see it all. Spencer had decorated your desk in pink and red heart shaped decor a small stuffed teddy bear holding candy sat atop a small envelope and under the envelope a small package wrapped in brown paper and a string. Spencer had also found out your favorite flower from penelope and made a small arrangement specifically for you wrapped in a beautiful ribbon. He stood off to the side as you approached your desk and lifted up the teddy and the card. The card read, ‘Because you deserve to feel special, Happy Valentine’s Dayto a very special person, Love Spencer’. You turned to him and he smiled, “Open the gift.” You pick up the brown wrapped package and gently open it unfolding it carefully. Inside is a book, a very special book, Little Women, your favorite childhood book but a special edition. It’s beautiful. “How did you know I-“ You see Penelope practically exploding with giddiness and get your answer. Spencer had definitely had her help. You give him the biggest hug and say “Thank you so much Spence, this is the best valentines i’ve ever had.” he smiles shyly and hands you a small conversation heart. you take it and read it “be mine” it says. You grab his hand and drag him somewhere more private to answer the question. It was the best Valentines either of you ever had.

ok my hearts melting literally picturing this. i’m kinda proud of this
hope u enjoyed reading this ♡

Aaron Hotchner x Fem Reader
Summary: JJ goes into labour with her second baby, on Christmas Eve. Aaron and Emily are the only two still in town, they rush to the hospital to support her where Aaron meets a lovely woman who's friend is also giving birth that same night.
Warnings: Pregnant JJ, mentions of throwing up, Meet Cutes, Love at First Sight | Canon rewrite: Haley doesn't die, JJ doesn't lose her baby in season 6, Emily is Alive and living with Aaron for the time being
Word Count: 2.7k
Tumblr media
After losing Emily, JJ was able to rejoin the team. And thank god because Hotch was struggling to keep things afloat without both of them. Spencer was a mess, Penelope was needier than ever and Derek... Derek had this look of vengeance in his eyes that made Aaron worried what he did to Foyet look like a walk in the park.
It was scary.
The only one who was semi okay was Dave and that’s only because he’s better at hiding his feelings than anyone else on the team.
JJ was doing really good pretending to be distraught while knowing the truth that their good friend was safely tucked away in Paris for the time being. But something was off about her in the first few weeks that she was back… something he couldn’t quite place until she threw up on the jet.
He went back to pour himself a drink on their way home when he heard her in the jet washroom. He was instantly worried, he knocked on the door and asked if she was okay. She groaned, but let him in. He helped her up to her feet again, got her some tissues to wipe her mouth and stared at her with the most concern in his eyes. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing's wrong,” she can’t help but smile. “I’m pregnant…”
He’s been so, so happy for her ever since. He keeps close to her side on cases, he keeps snacks in his bag for her and they double up in hotel rooms later on in her pregnancy just in case she needs anything in the middle of the night. She’s not one to go on early maternity leave, so starting at 27 weeks, he steps up his protectiveness and steps in when he knows she needs to go easy on herself. Wills grateful, he knows she’s in good hands with all the boys on the team and even Sever was really good at taking care of her before she transferred over to Andy Swan’s unit.
And much to everyone's surprise, Emily is back in their life when JJ hits 7 months pregnant and she’s so pissed that she can’t be involved in the takedown due to her baby bump. She wanted revenge, she wanted to make Ian Doyle pay… but getting to sit back at the BAU with Emily made up for it. Everything goes smoothly, they get Ian in custody, and they find his son-- sure the criminals all died at the trade-off, but at least Emily was safe from here on out.
The team is overjoyed that they get another Halloween with Emily. Another Thanksgiving, another Christmas and right as New Year's rolls around, JJ is due to bring in another member to their little family… they get two weeks off baring any emergency cases and so everyone goes their separate ways with the plan to come back right before new years to be there when JJ has her baby.
Spencer’s gone back to Vegas with his mom, Derek goes to Chicago with his mom and sisters, and Dave ends up in Long Island with his cousins and the few aunts he has left… Haley has Jack for Christmas this year, Penelope was volunteering at the local homeless shelter to give out Turkey dinner and so that left Emily and Aaron at his house— where she’s been living since coming back, with nothing to do.
And then the phone rings right before midnight. Moments before Christmas Day click's over.
“Hotchner?” He answers, expecting it to be a work call.
“Hey, JJ’s water broke and we’re at the hospital. Her mom has Henry, she’s like 5 centimetres now and she really wants you and Emily here,” Will rushes out.
“I need them!” She calls from the background.
“We’ll be there in a few minutes,” he assures before hanging up. He quickly gets up from bed to put his pants back on and rushes out the door, down the hall, he knocks on Emily’s door.
“What?” She answers and so he pushes the door open. She has a book in one hand and wine in the other. “Sure, come in.”
“JJ’s water broke, she wants us there,” he says. “Come on, I’ll see you downstairs.”
He grabs the rest of his things while she hurries to get back into something appropriate for waiting in a hospital for god knows how long. But they were going to be there the whole time. They were last time, they would be this time and then again if she ever has a 3rd. Or 4th… but he doesn’t see that happening.
The drive over is nice, the roads are clear and it doesn’t look like it’ll snow again anytime soon. Emily’s quiet, bouncing her knee and picking at her fingers. She’s not good with other people being in pain, especially not the people she loves… she’s the first one in the room when they get there. She kisses JJ on the head and asks if she needs anything and JJ just smiles up at her.
“They gave me the good shit,” she holds up her hand with an IV in it. “I’m great.”
“You look good,” Aaron gives her a smile. He loves her like a daughter, he’s so proud of her and she does look amazing for a woman going through the worst pain imaginable.
Just before she can reply, a nurse shows up in the doorway, “I’m so sorry, but it’s after visiting hours which means we can only allow 2 family members in the room at a time…”
“I’ll go,” Aaron offers, knowing how much time with Emily would mean to JJ. “I’ll be in the waiting room.”
“Okay,” JJ gives him a smile. “Thank you for coming, Aaron.”
“Anytime,” he smiles right back before heading out with a wave.
The waiting room is pretty empty, seeing as it is just after midnight on Christmas Day. Most people plan to have a baby around Christmas, avoiding it like the plague. JJ wasn’t due till New Year's, but, she has a habit of going into labour early. He sits alone in one of the pink pleather seats, there’s magazines on a rack in the corner and the news quietly on the TV screwed into the wall in the top right corner of the room. The chair he picked is perfect for watching the TV, however depressing the reports are, it keeps him company for the time being.
Another woman walks out into the waiting room 10 minutes later with a similar disappointed look on her face. “You get kicked out for not being family, too?” She asks him.
He nods, “I did. But it’s okay.”
“Can I sit beside you?” She asks and actually starts to sit well before he can nod. “Do you know what your friends are having?”
“Uh, no,” he lies. Keeping their privacy. “We just hope it’s healthy.”
“Same… but Cassy— my co-worker, she’s having a girl,” she explains. “Sorry, uh, I’m Y/N,” she sticks her hand out to shake his and make his acquaintance.
“Aaron,” he smiles back. “Was your friend due today?”
She nods, “Yeah, actually she was. We didn’t expect her to go in today because this is her first, sometimes they take a little longer but then her contractions started getting really bad a few hours ago.”
“This is my friend's second,” he shares. Finding it easy to open up to her. She’s nice, she doesn’t have a threatening bone in her body. And her smile is beautiful. “She actually went early both times.”
“Wow, lucky,” she laughs. “I really hope if I have a baby one day that it’s easy and quick…”
“You don’t have any kids?”
She shakes her head. “No, I don't even have a boyfriend… sorry, you didn’t need to know that.”
“It’s okay,” he smiles. “I uh, I have a son. He just turned 6, and he’s with his mom this Christmas.”
“Do you guys go back and forth?”
He nods, “It’s easier on him this way.”
“I bet,” she nods along, staring off at the floor, awkwardly losing the conversation there.
They’re silent for a few minutes and then he looks around to see where the vending machines are. “Are you hungry?”
“A little… but I used my cash on the parking pass,” she shares, lips pressed together, she’s not going to ask for food and she looks like she doesn’t want him to offer either.
“I’ll be right back, save my seat for me?”
“Okay,” she gives him another smile and he feels like blushing. She’s so pretty…
He gets a coffee from one machine and a bunch of snacks from the other, including a bottle of water and if she wants his coffee, he’ll just go back and get a second. He brings back his haul and places them on the little coffee table in front of their chairs, “Merry Christmas.”
She laughs again, “You didn’t have to do this?”
“We’re going to be here for a while, might as well eat up,” he shrugs, he really doesn’t mind. “Did you want coffee?”
She shakes her head, “No, I’m okay but thank you.”
“Take whatever you want,” he points to his collection of things. “There’s chips, candy, chocolate… they also had some egg salad sandwiches in there, if you prefer one of them?”
“No, no, it’s okay,” she assures him. “Thank you, I’ll take some chips… but first, I’m going to see if a nurse has a remote for the TV, the news is so sad and boring lately.”
“Oh, thank you. I get enough of this stuff at work,” he sighs with a shake of his head.
She disappears then, over to the nurses station and comes back with a remote inside a plastic bag. “What do you want to watch?”
“Anything is fine with me,” he assures.
“Okay,” she starts to flip through the channels. “What do you do at work?”
“I’m… I’m an FBI agent,” he tells her the truth. Feeling safe enough with her to be honest.
“Oh wow,” she’s impressed. “So is that why you didn’t tell me about what your friend is having?”
“What?”
“I teach kids, I can tell when someone is lying to me,” she explains with a smile. “Your voice went up a bit, you looked away from me… you know what she’s having.”
“I do. We’ve seen a few cases of people trying to hurt us specifically, I’m always weary to talk about my kid, her kids, any kids really because it shows people we have weak spots.”
“I feel you… I have to watch 23 kids for 8 hours a day and keep them all safe while school shootings are on the rise,” she explains.
“We don’t deal with a lot of those… but I see kidnappings often. At least 1 a month. It’s terrifying not being able to be with my son all day every day, but knowing there are teachers like you out there means a lot,” he gives her a smile.
“I would do anything for my kids,” she nods, the most genuine smile on her face as she stares into his eyes. “And I’m glad there are people like you out there who would be able to get the guy who puts me in a position to do anything for them.”
“And I get them all,” he assures her.
“I’m sure you do,” she smirks. Liking how cocky he is. “Do you wear a uniform like cops do or?”
“I typically wear a suit… and when I’m in the field a bulletproof vest— no suit jacket though.”
“Ah,” she likes the sound of that, looking him up and down. “And does your son have a mother?”
“He does… she’s with someone else, they’re all together at their new house right now,” he explains. “Scott is actually asking her to marry him tomorrow— well, today technically.”
“How weird is that for you?”
“Not really weird, I like him. He’s nice,” Aaron shrugs. “And he’s good with my son so I’m glad he has another father figure who’s home more than I am.”
“Your son sounds very lucky,” she smiles. “You clearly love him so much.”
“I really do,” he smiles right back. Something about her makes him so happy, the way she compliments him how she looks at him and how easy it is to just talk to her. “Are you doing anything tomorrow?”
She shakes her head, “Nope… don’t know when I’ll be leaving here though and I do need some sleep.”
“Yeah, same,” he forgot how long labour takes. “What about on New Year's?”
“I’m free,” she assures, leaning more into his space. “Are you asking me out, agent?”
“I am,” he nods, staring down at her lips and then back to her eyes. “You’re so nice and pretty… I’d like to get to know you more.”
“I’d like to—
“Aaron,” a voice calls out. Emily’s voice. “We have another niece.”
He’s quick to pull away and stand up, “already?”
She nods, “JJ is good at what she does… who’s this?”
“Oh, hi,” she stands up and puts her hand out to his friend. “I’m Y/N.”
“Emily,” she smiles. “Nice to meet you…”
“my friend is also having a baby tonight,” she awkwardly smiles. “But go, go meet this little girl. I’ll talk to you later?”
“Yeah,” he nods, “I’ll come back out and see you before I leave?”
“sounds good.”
Emily walks him down the hall and stops at the door, “only 2 people are allowed in there at a time… I can go keep your friend company?”
“Don’t… don’t be weird. I like her, she’s sweet,” he whispers. “I don’t get to meet nice, normal women often, let me have this.”
“You can have her, I’ll go to Penelope’s,” she teases and he swats her arm. “Hey, okay, go in. I’ll wait out here.”
Penelope is the next one to show up, Will and Aaron go out for some bad coffee, giving the girls some time to talk and Y/N’s nowhere to be seen out in the waiting room. Her friend must’ve had her baby… and he never had the chance to get her number.
Visiting hours start again in a little while, meaning that they’ll all be allowed in her room soon and maybe, just maybe, he can have a peak into the other rooms to see her?
Before he knows it, JJ goes for a nap, Penelope and Emily head out to get some food and Will sits beside his wife with his hand over hers. A nurse is coming in to take the baby for tests and monitoring and Will lets Aaron accompany her wherever she goes. She doesn’t have a name yet, she’s just baby girl LaMontagne and she’s the cutest.
He waits outside the glass windows, watching all the nurses attend to all the babies wrapped up in their blue and pink blankets. He’s staring at them with so much awe and happiness, he doesn’t notice someone coming up beside him until she’s bumping shoulders with him.
“hey there…”
“Hi,” he beams a smile at her. “Did she have the baby?”
She nods, “Yeah, she’s right there,” she points at the cot beside JJ’s daughter.
“My friend's is to the right of her,” he coos. “Isn’t she beautiful?”
“She is,” Y/N swoons. “God, now I want one even more.”
“You’d be a good mom,” he whispers. “I can tell.”
“Cause you’re a good dad or a good agent?” She teases.
“A bit of both… Do you still want to go out sometime?”
“I would,” she can’t believe it. She looks up at him in awe, “do you want my number?”
“I would love your number,” he says as he pulls out his phone and hands it to her. “I don’t go back to work until the 3rd, intense cases permitting… so I was thinking maybe we could go to dinner? Maybe take a walk around and see the lights and fireworks at midnight?”
“I’d really like that,” she swoons as she hands his phone back to him. “Even if we just ordered in and watched TV, I’d have fun with you.”
“You know, out of all my times in waiting rooms, this has to be my favourite,” he teases. “I’m so glad I met you.”
“Me too… and if it all works out, we have two little girls to thank for this,” she points at the two babies side by side, peaceful as ever.
“That we do.”
