Hello! So today is currently Rizal Day in the Philippines and I wanted to share this little comic I made for our Rizal class a year ago. The prompt was the "ideal filipino woman" based on Rizal's "Letter to the Women of Malolos". For those not in the know, Rizal is the Philippine National Hero.
I took some relevant quotations from that letter and placed it in the perspective of an alternate Pia Alba, a character from Noli Me Tangere.
I took some relevant quotations from that letter and placed it in the perspective of an alternate Pia Alba, a character from Noli Me Tangere. In the original story, she withered away after being taken advantage of by Padre Damaso, inevitably dying after giving birth to Maria Clara. The concept for this comic piece came from me and my boyfriend's conclusion: if the world Pia Alba had lived in prioritized moral good derived from rational thinking and passed that strength onto her child, then maybe things wouldn't have ended as badly as they had.

Ukraine's Defense department official Twitter quotes Crisostomo Ibarra: “I don't see why I should bow my head when I could hold it high, or place it in the hands of my enemies when I can defeat them.”
Crisostomo Ibarra is the main character in Dr. José Rizal's novels "Noli Me Tángere" and "El filibusterismo".

71-2315 - Rizal monument
Here is the first sketch I did when we joined #UskManila at the ASP (Art Show Philippines) outdoor art fair at Rizal Park on Sunday. The monument was build to commemorate Philippine’s national hero José Rizal who was executed by the Spanish colonial government. His remains are interned in the stone base. Sun-26-Feb-2023

Jose Rizal Memorial - the execution and burial site of the martyred Filipino doctor and polymath, tried and killed by firing squad for advocating for Philippines independence from Spanish occupation and rule. This is more history I intend to study more thoroughly; Rizal was an incredibly accomplished and remarkable person whose short life (executed at age 35; married but no descendants) has made an indelible mark on Filipino history and culture. Very grateful to visit this site and share the experience with my travel companions ♥️🇵🇭✨ . . @joatwood @i.am.pam @livingcatrina @zaneta.encarnacion @audie.decastro #philippines #philippineshistory #joserizal #nolimetangere #filipino #filipina #filipinohistory #joserizalmemorial #history #travel #travelphilippines #martyr #hero #manila #manilaphilippines #tattooartist #filipinatattooartist #philippineshistory (at Jose Rizal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoC57TdOshO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Immediately after his execution on December 30, 1896, Philippine National Hero Rizal was buried in an unmarked grave here in Paco Park Cemetery. He was exhumed here on August 17, 1898, and placed in an Urn and on December 30, 1912, buried under his Monument in Luneta Park.

To The Women of Malolos
Jose Rizal was also known for having different women in his life. But some people might not also know that despite his chick boy side he respected women and saw them as a brave, independent, and powerful woman. As Rizal saw how woman were being criticized by Spaniards, he fights for the rights of every woman to fight, believe, and speak for themselves as Spaniards made them believe that they are just some slaves on Spaniards and woman used to it. But Rizal never saw them as how Spaniards saw them and up to this day after learning how Rizal is right for my gender made me believe more to myself in a way that though I am a woman, it doesn’t mean that I can’t do more than I can. And I am not just a woman, instead a woman who fights for my right specially to fight whenever everyone is against my action as long it is the right act. Rizal didn’t just fight, but he also acknowledged women to become a better and noble woman, also being a good wife and mother.

#MariaClaraAtIbarra, has been No.1 tv show on ⁦‪@Netflix_PH‬⁩ since 5 days ago. #Filipinos will find it an entertaining, enjoyable and exciting viewing experience if reading #JoseRizal's novels #NoliMeTángere and #ElFilibusterismo is a boring chore.

Philippines needs help!
The country elected a Marcos. (For context: Read https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/09/world/asia/marcos-jr-philippines-election.html)
While we believe in the power of democracy of the Philippine election, how sacred it is, we think that the machinery and the years of revisionism led to this.
What to do next?
Here’s the first step. Create a blog, be the modern Jose Rizal. Be one of the revolutionaries in the age of new media. Fight back!
