chan’s guide to loving you

a/n: jules makes a return to writing after SEVERAL YEARS!!! i haven’t done this in a hot minute so bear with me here…thank u to @cbini for encouraging me to do this!! i kinda whipped this up to throw myself into writing so i wouldn’t overthink!! hopefully more thought out stuff follows LOL

warnings: none. just self indulgence and an insane amount of fluff that isn’t entirely proofread or edited…

1. late night walks

chris sometimes hates that the only time he’s able to go out with you is late at night. whether it be a busy day full of schedules, performances, practices, and studio grinding or even just the fear of being caught in public by fans or dispatch; the risk was always too high and not worth it for him. you never minded, you weren’t super keen on getting swarmed on the internet for dating bang chan of stray kids. especially not when you didn’t see him like that. on the occasions you would go out at 1 or 2 am to take a walk and bask in each other’s presence, he was just chris. chris, your boyfriend. chris, the man you loved and who loved you back. chris, the guy who couldn’t go two seconds without wanting to hold your hand. who would never let you walk on the side of the sidewalk closest to the street. who would buy you any treats you asked for from the convenience store down the street from the dorms. who thought the chilly weather at night meant he could blame the redness on his cheeks and ears on the breeze, so you wouldn’t know just how shy you made him. (you knew, you just liked to let him think you didn’t.) the empty sidewalks and streets meant you could take pictures of him and the people who followed him on instagram always assumed one of the boys took them, not knowing it was actually you. but it was okay, because they would never get to see the pictures you chose to keep for yourself. you never asked him to take any of you, but he always did anyway when he thought you weren’t looking. one of you laughing at stupid joke he made, one of you pointing at the moon. (you pretend you still don’t know even when you find out a couple days later after you see his new lockscreen.)

2. sneaking kisses

you love the rest of the boys, you really do. you just never imagined that agreeing to a date with chris would lead to you becoming a co-parent to 7 grown men. not that you were entirely complaining. because while you thought it was silly that chris would often have to drag you into hidden corners or into rooms just to sneak a smooch off your lips to avoid endless teasing, you secretly liked the thrill of sneaking a peck in the entryway and it turning into a mini makeout session by the coat rack. that is, until seungmin gets sent out by minho to pick up something from the mini-mart for dinner and he catches you red-handed. he’ll feign disgust by gagging at you guys and yelling out for you to “get a room!”, but he’ll be damned if you or, god forbid chris, knows that he smiles to himself when he closes the front door because he’s glad that his leader has found someone to love that loves him back just as much. and who has to know if you guys giggle and laugh against each other’s lips after the door closes and you calm down from the slight embarrassment of getting caught? seungmin won’t be back for another 15 minutes, and the others sure won’t be coming over to the entryway after he announced your actions to the rest of the dorm. (when seungmin comes back arms full of groceries, he’s actually disgusted this time that you guys are STILL at it.)

3. “i miss you.”

the longer you guys are together, the easier weeks and months away from each other while chris is on tour become. but never fully. there are always mornings where you wake up rolling onto his empty side of the bed hoping to bump into his broad frame, just to remember that your furnace of a boyfriend is on the other side of the world. and there are always nights where chris, who already struggles with falling asleep on a good day, lays in his bed at night wishing he had you to hold and wonders how he has ever been able to fall asleep without you by his side. but the ache in your heart eases a little in the mornings when you check your phone and see 9 texts:

Oh its 7am there huh

Sorry lol

I was busy all day long…

Busy thinking about you hahaha

That was cheesy yeah?

Are you thinking of me~?

I miss you

and who are you to leave him on read? because while your day may just be getting started, you know that your voice on a video call is better than nothing for him, and you’ll stay on until you hear his soft snores. (that is, if you can consider snores that sometimes rock the haphazard stand his phone is set up on “soft”.)

We thought you were gonna be a boy at first but we were very surprised the day you were born. Either way I’m so happy that you are here. I’m so proud to be your mom. I love you so much I can’t get over how adorable you are. I also can’t get over this picture like look at both my babies. With that being said I’d love to share her name with everyone. I’d like everyone to meet Jules Joy Leclerc. We knew immediately we wanted Jules but Charles had the most amazing idea for her middle name. In honor of my late mother. I hope you all stick with the three of us in this next chapter. We love you all so much.

I walked into the paddock carrying Jules. Everyone smiled and took pictures. The Netflix crew came up. I smiled.

“Hey Netflix this is miss Jules” I said she smiled. I then waved her little hand. “And we are off to Ferrari to see Dad race huh” I said. “Love her little Ferrari outfit” Christian said walking by.

“Isn’t it adorable” I said. “You sure she can’t have a Red Bull hat” Christian said. “What do you think” I said. Jules pointed to the Ferrari garage. “Ahhh I see just like her Dad” Christian said I smiled.

We then went to the Ferrari paddock. Everyone smiled as we walked in together.

“Aweee baby Jules” Joris said. “She’s actually pretty excited.. she napped till we got here” I said. “She’s adorable” he said. “Ready to go find daddy” I said she smiled.

We then walked into the garage.

“Oh look who’s here is that my favorite Leclerc” Carlos said. “Look it’s Uncle Carlos” I said she laughed. “Oh my goodness the whole Ferrari outfit aren’t you adorable” Carlos said. “Her little pants even have dads number” I said.

“Oh my god” Carlos said. “Oh my goodness is that my little girl” Charles said walking over. Jules smiled. “Who’s that baby” I said she laughed. “Oh my goodness come here” Charles said taking her. “She’s been so excited” I said.

“Oh I missed you my little princess” Charles said kissing her head. “We missed you too” I said. “You know I missed you my lucky charm of course” Charles said kissing me. “Lucky charms now” Carlos said. “Most definitely” Charles said looking at Jules.

“Did you see her outfit” I said. “Oh my goodness look at my little Ferrari girl” Charles said. “This is the cutest thing ever” Charles said. I took a picture of them. “So making this my lockscreen” I said. “Jules are you hungry let’s grab some food huh” Charles said.

After a long day of racing we went back to our house. Thankfully the race was in Monaco today. So we were all able to go.

“She’s having a hard time sleeping” I said. “Oh let me try” Charles said. “You can rest it was a long race day Charles” I said. “I got it” Charles said walking into Jules room.

“Oh honey what’s wrong” Charles said looking into her crib. She cried. “It’s alright daddy’s here I promise” Charles said. I leaned in the doorway. He then picked her up. “I’m not going anywhere” he said to her.

He then sung her a little song. And soon enough she was fast asleep with her little head rested on him. He then set her back into her crib and covered her up.

We both walked out of her room.

“See I don’t know how you get her to sleep” I said. “I guess she’s just a daddy’s girl” Charles said. “That makes two of us” I said. “So Mrs. Leclerc.. I believe we have a race to celebrate” Charles said.

“Yeah really oh who won today” I said. “I think your pretty amazing husband got P1 today” Charles said I smiled. “And what does he want” I said. “His prize” he said. “Mmmh..” I said kissing him.

Later…

“So will you ever come back to racing” Charles said. “Actually I am but not as a driver” I said. “What will you be doing” Charles asked. I snuggled up to him. “Toto offered me the job of a race strategist” I said.

“That’s perfect love” Charles said. “Yeah and Jules can come too” I said. “I do want to tell you after this year I’m retiring” Charles said. “You are” I said. “I wanna spend time with my girls” Charles said.

“We’d like that” I said. “And I’m thinking of opening up my own karting track for kids” Charles said. “I think that sounds like an amazing idea” I said. “Only if you’ll help too” he said. “I’d follow you anywhere Charles I have since day one” I said.

“And that’s why I love you” he said. “More that our daughter” I said. “I think I love you both equally” he said. Then Jules started crying again. “Speak of our girl” I said. “Get rest I’ll feed her love” Charles said.

“Thank you baby” I said he kissed me. “Mmmh go to sleep” Charles said I smiled. I couldn’t ask for anything better in life.

Okay this came up because I was talking to Jules about it and now I think it’s worth posting because maybe this will help some of you

Life Protip: if you have a self improvement thing you wanna do, and you have an iPhone (not sure about androids), go into the Reminders app - specifically it has to be the reminders app - and set yourself a reminder with a daily repeat at an appropriate time with a little message in it that will remind you of the thing you need to do more of or change or whatever. They don’t have to be straightforward- they don’t have to make any sense to anyone but you - in fact, I think it’s more fun if they’re cryptic. This is what mine looks like:

Explanations:

- make someone feel loved today - simple. Exactly what it says

- communicate your feelings (like Gerard) - as I’ve fallen into the Gerard Way emotion I’ve been watching some streams and things they did with their friends and noticed in passing that they’re very open and matter of fact about certain things - like “this makes me anxious” or “I forgot the rules to this game” or whatever - that I SUCK at being open about. It stuck with me, so it went on the list to remind me to tell people how I’m feeling in situations.

- be more like Loki - this one sounds super threatening but it only actually makes sense to me. There was a YouTube video I watched ages ago about what makes Loki so compelling as a character and the guy doing the video pointed out that it’s partly because he always seems to be having so much FUN when he’s making chaos, and the guy made an offhanded comment about how all of use could stand to be a bit more Loki in our lives by finding ways to have fun with everything. So “be more like Loki” doesn’t mean become a supervillain or anything- what it means is “find a way to have fun with something you have to do today.” And I always know and remember that when I see it.

- Dr Bashir says take your Zyrtec - another does what it says on the tin.

The magic of these - and the reason it has to be the reminders app - is that iPhone reminders app reminders stay on screen until manually dismissed. They don’t disappear into the notification tray when you unlock your phone. They stay visible on your lockscreen until you deliberately interact with them and hit “completed.” It forces you to manually acknowledge what it’s saying.

I absolutely love these and I think they make a genuine difference to my life. If you want to try and do something, change something, self improve, whatever - try this. And make them cryptic and fun and do WHATEVER you have to so they’ll stick out to you. It’s not a coincidence that I’m invoking characters and people with all of these. It MAKES me pay attention. And it nudges me throughout the day towards a particular self I want to be.
