iruka's sure he must've fried his brain during the recent war.

pretty sure, even though he wasn't much on the front line to speak of seeing as he's relegated more to recovery, assisting the medic nins, or employed for miscellaneous tasks like border security or transportation of vital scrolls. whatever it is, iruka knows, comparable to most of the shinobi during the fourth war, he was pretty damn lucky to have survived with nothing much but a few bruises and scraped knees. he's still convinced he must've been drugged up somewhere though, or had been put under some sort of genjutsu because there is no way he is seeing the fourth hokage, naruto's father, in front of him. sure, he'd heard rumours— but.

iruka's face heats up. though, if he were to be honest, he doesn't quite know from what exactly, based on the interaction so far, that he feels tremendously shy about. is it the very fact that the fourth had pointed out how he'd cared after naruto ? or was it the following statement to being called a kid ? a kid. had they met before when iruka was young ?

iruka remembers attending festivals, sure, sitting quite comfortably over his father's shoulder when the village celebrates its seasonal holiday and witnessing the hokage giving speeches or simply making his appearances and whatnot, but he didn't think he had ever personally been introduced to the fourth hokage as a child. no... his only affiliation with the office had genuinely started when the third took special note of him. but that was after the kyuubi attack. that was after iruka had to bury his parents into the ground. by that point, namikaze minato was among the fallen as well.

or maybe it's the guilt. which does settle quickly once his surprise over the entire thing fades. guilt, of course, because the lord fourth may have said what he said — thank you for looking after my son — though in truth, iruka didn't think he'd done half as enough. had he had more power... maybe more experience... or mizuki hadn't been in the picture, naruto wouldn't have known the meaning of loneliness at all, let alone ostracisation. iruka would've taken to the adoption paper much sooner, but he didn't. by the time he realises it, naruto's already grown. he'd become an integral figure in all of the ninja world, and iruka's guilt grows itself into becoming regret — though pride has always outshone it.

to the fourth now, iruka bows his whole body. ❛⠀it was an honour being able to teach him, fourth-sama. truly. that... that boy— ❜ the academy sensei hesitates, before he gathers his breath, and continues, finally meeting the fourth's eyes. ❛⠀naruto taught me many things as well. i wouldn't have become the man i am without him. if anything, i ... i hope you are proud of who he has become as well. i know i am. ❜

Naruto Men Take Care of You While You're Sick: Gaara, Shino, Shisui, Kiba, Iruka, Lee

Heya friends. <3 I'm still feeling sick right now, so I decided to write some short, unedited drabbles about different Naruto guys taking care of their sick partner.

This is what I was asking for Naruto characters for, btw, so thank you for sending those in. <3

I haven't written for Shisui or Iruka before, so I hope I did them justice for those who asked for them.

Gaara looked around curiously as he walked in the door. Usually, you were at the door in less than thirty seconds, greeting Gaara with a hug and kiss. You helped him pull his Kazekage robes off, then led him to the dinner table while asking about his day.

But today, you were nowhere to be found. Frowning, Gaara stuck his head in the kitchen, then the living room, before finally making his way to your bedroom.

You were lying in bed, mostly hidden beneath a mountain of blankets. Your skin was flushed with fever, beads of sweat running down your head. You cracked open your eyes when you heard the door open, offering Gaara a faint smile. “Hey,” you whispered, your voice cracking.

“Hey,” Gaara said, walking over and pressing his hand against your forehead with a worried expression. “Are you ok?”

You coughed several times before you were able to croak out, “Not really.” You looked away. “I’m sorry I didn’t have dinner ready today.”

Gaara leaned down and gently kissed your forehead. “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “I’ll take care of everything tonight. You just rest and focus on getting better.”

You smiled faintly, closing your eyes as you savored his affection. “What would I do without you?”

He smiled back. “As long as I live, you’ll never have to find out.”

Shino looked up as one of his beetles flew in a lazy circle around him, buzzing a message only he could understand. Immediately, he stopped what he was doing and followed the beetle into the kitchen. There, he found you, swaying in front of the refrigerator, looking at its contents without actually seeing them.

He got behind you just as you fell back, catching you in his strong arms. “Shino?” you asked, tilting your head back. “What are you doing here?”

“Catching you,” Shino replied. “The reason is, my insects told me you weren’t feeling well.”

You sighed. “They’re right. But I just need a little water, and I’ll be good to go.”

Shino wrapped his arm around you, pressing his fingers against your forehead. “You feel feverish,” he said. “Perhaps you should rest, and I will bring you the water.”

You pouted, but when you turned around, Shino’s worried expression made any arguments you would make die in your throat. “Ok,” you agreed.

Shino led you to the couch, covering you with blankets as you laid down. Once you were tucked in, Shino lifted your hand and gently kissed the back of your fingers. “I will be right back,” he promised. “You just rest now.”

You nodded. “Thank you, Shino.”

“Of course, my love.”

Shisui handed you a bowl of your favorite soup, watching you worriedly. You sipped from the spoon, trying to hold back your coughs. “Thanks, Shisui,” you whispered. “This is perfect.”

“I’m glad,” Shisui said, though his expression was still worried. “You really gave me a scare there.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” you replied, smiling sheepishly. “I swear, I was feeling ok this morning.”

“All the more reason for you to rest now,” Shisui replied, pulling the blankets tighter around you.

You smiled at the comforting warmth. “You worry about me a lot, don’t you?”

He nodded. “I can’t help it,” he said, brushing stray strands of hair behind your ear. “I love you. I’m always going to worry about you.”

“Shisui…” you started to say. Then it turned into a series of coughs. Shisui immediately wrapped his arm around you, rubbing soothing circles into your back and whispering sweet nothings into your ear.

When they finally subsided, you leaned over, tucking your nose into the crook of his neck. “Thank you for being there for me.”

He smiled and pressed a kiss into your hair. “Of course.”

Kiba could smell you were sick as soon as he entered the house. He and Akamaru made a beeline for the bedroom, where they found you curled up on your side, a cold compress on your head and a glass of water on your nightstand.

“Hey there,” Kiba said, leaning down to look at you. “You doing ok?”

“Working on it,” you replied. “I feel like shit right now though.”

“Aww, poor thing,” Kiba said. He carefully touched your forehead. “Damn, you really are burning up. You need me to get you anything?”

“Can you cure this cold?” you asked. “That would be great.”

“Unfortunately, no, I’m not that good,” Kiba replied, laughing as he picked up your compress. “How about I replace this? It’s almost as hot as you are.”

You couldn’t help but laugh too. “Hot in a good or bad way?”

“You, in a good way,” Kiba said, kissing your cheek. “Akamaru, stay with her for a minute.”

Akamaru barked, wagging his tail. He crawled up on the bed and curled up next to you, resting his head on your chest. You smiled and scratched his ears, making his tail thump the mattress harder.

Kiba returned a minute later, replacing the icy cold compress on your head. Then he crawled in on your other side, holding you close. You sighed, nuzzling against his chest.

“Feeling better?” Kiba asked softly.

You smiled. “Starting to.”

Iruka Umino (suggested by: anon)

Iruka noticed you weren’t feeling well as soon as you two met up. Your smile was less vibrant, your energy dulled. When he took your hand, your skin was warm, and you had long since stopped blushing in his presence, so the flushing was from another source.

“My dear, are you feeling all right?” Iruka asked.

“Hm? Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” you lied. “Just a little cold.”

Iruka frowned, then turned you both towards your apartment. “Let’s stay in tonight then,” he suggested. “I don’t want you to get worse on my watch.”

You pouted. “Aww, but Iruka…”

“Please,” he said. “I’ll worry about you otherwise.”

“All right,” you sighed. “You’re cleaning up after dinner though.”

Iruka laughed. “I’m fine with that.” He lifted your hand and kissed it. “Anything to make sure you’re well.”

You leaned against him as you returned home. He helped you over to the sofa and covered you with your softest blanket, then tucked a pillow under your head. He started to get up, but you caught his hand. “What is it, my love?” he asked, looking down at you. “Do you need something?”

You nodded. “Could you…hold me? Just for a minute?”

Iruka chuckled. “Of course.” 

He carefully slid onto the sofa, pulling you close so you were spooning. You immediately relaxed, pressing back against his chest. “You’re so comfy, you know that?”

Iruka nuzzled into the crook of your neck. “Am I?”

“Mmhmm.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

Lee double checked everything on the tray. A bowl of your favorite soup, water, medicine, and your favorite treat were all presented and accounted for. Nodding to himself, he picked up the tray and brought it to where you were propped up in bed.

You smiled, slightly embarrassed. “Thank you so much, Lee,” you said. “I’m sorry to be so much trouble.”

“No trouble at all, my love,” Lee said as he set the tray down. “My only wish here is to see you get better.”

You blushed. Lee was always a sweetheart, no matter the day or what else was going on.

Lee carefully scooped up a spoonful of soup, then offered the spoon to you. You sipped the salty broth, closing your eyes as the warmth from the soup and his affection warmed you. A drop of soup splashed on your chin, and Lee hastily reached for a napkin. “I am so sorry, my love, it will not happen again!” he said as he wiped it off.

“It’s ok, Lee.” You caught his hand, holding it to your chest. “I appreciate you taking care of me.” You gently squeezed. “I love you.”

Lee relaxed a little, squeezing your hand back. “I love you too, my darling.”

kkir fic idea 💡 might write it or someone else can adopt this and run with it

i work at an australian magistrate court as a paralegal and kkir (my ninja dads) remind me of the police prosecution vs defence lawyer negotiation throwdowns. kakashi is literally all the weird and eccentric lawyer i've ever met (you need to be weird to be sane) and iruka just acts like all the other very nice but firm prosecutors at court to me

imagine hotshot perpetually late but so so brilliant defence barrister kakashi (mr hatake) negotiating a better outcome for his clients. he's always laid back because he knows he's that good, dresses in the same suit every time, gets away with wearing a facemask in court and literally only ever fixes his terrible posture at the bar table and whilst in court. he tried to ask the magistrate to let him salute the coat of arms (instead of bowing like everyone else) when he first got transferred down to the lowly magistrates' court but got promptly shot down (the compromise was the mask). he was working as a top queen's counsel for the private city law firm then got mysteriously transferred to their regional branch in a 'mentoring role' (a bunch of graduated law students interning actually quit their postgrad studies because he was really harsh and had really arbitrary rules tbh). so my man's in a bad mood ALL THE TIME (literally unprovoked) and has no personal assigned paralegals because no one can stand him. his assigned clerk has the patience of a saint and the tolerance for no bullshit (it's rin) he makes outrageous plea offers with prosecution and it's the best/worst time down at court. he also cross examines like the person at the mic personally wronged him, which isn't great if it is a protected person in a family violence case, or any witness at all, but very eye opening to see

down at court you have the sweetest man ever sergeant umino ('please call me iruka') in the dog box(what we call the prosecution office). he has a law degree (admittedly from a nowhere regional university but he is admitted to practice as a legal practitioner) and way too overqualified for the police force, but he wants to make a difference before going to teach full time or practising law full time. he's nice about everything (printers, legal advice, referrals, talking to anyone) except for paperwork which he is anal about. he wields stamps like weapons and every time an informant is shown to have filled out their paperwork wrong he calls them up directly (how does he even have their direct line?) to chew them out, but super nicely. adjournments, unmentionable dates, requests - don't need to provide reasons, iruka will approve. he not-so-secretly made copies of his police badge so paralegals can print documents off the police printers. he always gets snacks and coffees for court registrars and referral officers. he has bags of lollies for little kids. iruka teaches community service and justice studies for the vocational college nearby. he also has the occasional stint as a university lecturer only for first year law kiddies, and teaches also senior high school legal studies electives. beyond stamps and paperwork, he is the law down to the letter, sometimes to the spirit. if the facts look bad, especially if it is family violence or egregious failure to appear/warrants then he would be a hardass to lawyers. my man however is not opposed to diversion especially if the accused are kids.

so like fanon, kakashi brings outrageous plea offers to the dog box whenever iruka is in -- 'can you withdraw [most serious charge]' 'you can't prove that she was fearing for her life' 'he's never had a criminal record so can't you give him a slap on the wrist and send him a bond?' iruka shuts that shit down every time. he has a case of bleeding heart-itis so occasionally they CAN collaborate to help truly at risk offenders to reorient their lives. kakashi complains that iruka agreeing without a yelling match feels worthless but deep down he doesn't mind when iruka isn't in full hate mode AT him. kakashi thought that iruka would be all snobbish because police prosecutors who hold law degrees tend to act like they're better than everyone else but iruka is overall down-to-earth, hi-i'm-here-to-help. can't push him around though, but he's all about the learning experience so he encourages postgrad law kids and volunteers to have a go at him. for the real thing, defence lawyers groan good-naturedly when they hear he's in the dog box. kakashi seems to be the only who delights in riling him up, but in the rare instance that everyone agrees BUT the magistrate says otherwise and hands down a harsher sentence, he would be handing up paperwork for a contest hearing SO FAST kakashi wouldn't have time to consult with the client. there's a deal between him and kakashi for a stack of signs form 11As can be dealt out when absolutely needed. despite going at each other's throats on the clock, sooo many people have seen them getting lunch together or just talking about their mutual student naruto.

in this universe naruto did not complete high school, went through to vocational studies, took a pathway to uni instead. somehow he, sakura and sasuke end up at the same law firm (naruto is a bit older than the other two but acts precisely like a teenage eshay ALL THE TIME). why does he want to practise criminal law? because it looks cool and he wants to make the bar. his mum is a judge and his dad is a speaker of the senate/cabinet member so... it runs in the family. sasuke is following alongside the traditional asian career choice: doctor, lawyer or engineer. my man hates maths with a passion so lawyer it is. i know it's weird that sakura would be doing a law degree knowing she could be doing a med degree but hear me out: i met and know and am friends with girls who studied double degree law/biomed, finish their law degree, said fuck it I'll be a lawyer what's so bad, otherwise i can come back, and now making big massive bucks. though i imagine sakura will specialise in personal injury cases as well as mental health tribunals, then might go back to university for her med degree. she will be that cousin who lived 6 lives already - was a doctor and a lawyer and your mother would not stop comparing you to her. she needs a bit of instinct training but her academics are spotless. sasuke is ruthless but can't connect with clients. naruto maybe brash and loud but he plays on people's heartstrings like a conductor when presenting a bail app or plea. everything is the way it is so that iruka can move naruto's admission to become a lawyer when he applies for admission at the supreme court

anyways iruka will retire from police work to teach full time, maybe sign on to work for a community legal centre to appear for bail apps for remanded offenders picked up in the cells. he accidentally yelled at kakashi one day to go out and kakashi thought it was too funny to not go along with. now they raise 8 dogs, 3 full grown adults and all of iruka's students together. they fight about everything, but might slip into really formal legalese (passover aggressive fuck-you) when they're being annoying or really pissed off. naruto sometimes has to adjudicate these fights and he can't stop being scared for his LIFE.

kakashi: your honour, my learned colleague here had erred in his submission that i had, conclusively, not promised such things

iruka immediately pulling out receipts: your honour, may i submit evidence contradicting otherwise

(they were fighting about whose turn it is to do the dishes. there were only oral agreements in place but once you're both lawyers you just get used to writing everything down and signing to bring up in an argument later)

(iruka also cross examines kakashi for funsies, but they mainly shelf this for when arguments are bad and they need to pull out the big guns)

Finished the main story of "Rain Code"

As you likely expected of me, I loved it. There were times when I had misgivings, of course. But as per usual with Kazutaka Kodaka's works, they were extremely minor compared to all the things I loved.

Random spoiler-free thoughts:

The messaging in this game is both very anti-late-stage capitalism AND very anti-privatization of criminal justice, and I'm so fucking here for ALL OF THAT. PREACH.

Yuma is reminiscent of Shuichi in that he starts off so deeply insecure that it actually pains me to watch and embody someone so completely incapable of speaking up for themselves that they'd only ever do so if they're about to DIE. Holy FUCK. ... I'm so glad he eventually gained strength in his convictions, because JEEBUS.

Furthermore: Yuma is one of the shortest grown-ass people in the whole game, yet he still has like three characters that I believe are clearly attracted to him. Between him and Naegi, I guess Kodaka likes himself a Short King... ?

Speaking of liking people? I like Halara Nightmare a ❤️❤️❤️ completely normal❤️❤️❤️ amount. Our precious non-binary monarch, may your reign be long.

Shinigami's snark-ass comments about Desuhiko during Chapter 2 feel SO real. I see/hear those, and I can easily imagine people in my life who'd say the same shit if they had to deal with him.

Is it me, or is Iruka one of Rui Komatsuzuki's sexiest character designs ever? ............................................... oh? Just me then?

Halara's cat allergy = DR3 Seiko Kimura's sugar allergy in that both of these are presented as a life-altering issue with no possible workaround. Meanwhile, those of us in the real world are like "There's an extremely obvious solution to this. Multiple possible solutions, even."

I still prefer Class Trials over Mystery Labyrinths, and that's mostly because Non-Stop Debate >>> Reasoning Death Match. Having to dodge text that's flying FORWARD at the player character without having any depth perception to rely on because the screen is only 2D? That ain't it, chief.

Ok I've already stated Kakashi and Hinata, so Sasuke. Either people make him super perfect 'did no wrong' or they make him the worst person ever who is irredemable.

You leave my son alone he is broken, angry, right about needing justice but went way too fucking far (which is a problem with the writter making everyone who wanted justice go too far) and he cared deeply about people but he also reached a breaking point and had every reason to close himself off from the world after losing so much.

Like every character, i hate any character who's made into the perfect character who does no wrong ever. Iruka has anger issues. he yells too quick and can be way too harsh. He was a part of the problem naruto faced for years until he actively decided to fix himself and do better.

Stop ignoring his faults and making everyone else the worst.

Stop acting like he can do no wrong when he actively does.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

A Wedding of Errors - Teen Wolf, Allison/Lydia, Rated T - Wedding Planner AU and my first (and only?) Big Bang fic! It had beautiful at and I still follow the artist though it looks like the post got deleted in a blog rebrand or something.

Not a Rebound - Supergirl, Winn/James, Rated E - Post season 2 episode 1 smut I wrote to make myself feel better after they nerfed Kara/James for no reason! (we know the reason 😑)

No Time Like the Present - Young Justice, Jamie/Bart, Rated G - Short little future fic of Bart having a panic attack and Jamie helping him out. First time I wrote something and was like wow that was like writing writing!

Uninvited - Elementary, Gen Sherlock & Watson - pod together project I had to ask for a co-writer to help pinch hit this for me because I was struggling. It was strange to co-write, especially with a stranger, but it was interesting and the podficcers seemed to have fun!

ShapeShift - Teen Wolf, Stiles/Danny, Rated T - AU based on a Bollywood movie I found on Netflix and became obsessed with called Pyaar Impossible. Also a pod together project!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Sometimes. I like that ao3 has the unread comments on your front page, so I like to keep them there so I can see them and smile at them when I'm scrolling through the suggested marked for later stuff. If someone has commented multiple times, I'll usually thank them on the most recent one rather than replying to all of them. Of course if someone asks a question I'll answer. Otherwise it depends on my mood.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I was gonna say I try not to leave fics on too an angsty note but then I remembered Garder le Silence my Harry Potter pod together that's an episode of Potterwatch during book 7. It's pretty moody all the way through.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably A Wedding of Errors. It's the only fic with an epilogue so you actually have a little time after the couple gets together. Hmm should I write more epilogues? 🤔

8. Do you get hate on fics? I got an angry comment on Wedding saying it was a bad f/f fic because I spend too much time on the side m/m/m love triangle. Honestly that was something I was worried about and if the person had just been disappointed, I would've understood but they were just mean so fuck em.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? a little! increasingly more so last month lol some light d/s, with a lot of silliness and communication

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? nah I don't love the idea of crossovers. Usually I'd rather have a full AU

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Bakugou Katsuki/Midoriya Izuku from My Hero Academia. I have never written a fic for them and I probably never will. It's a classic case of, if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. 🥺

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Hmm well I don't usually post anything unless I've finished it. I did start a series of fics for a glee rare pair but I am nOT going back to that. I have the last installment in my Winn gets fucked series like 90% done I literally just need them to fuck and I can post it. I have a couple Haven WIPs I probably won't go back to unless the hyperfixation comes back in a big way.

16. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, calling back to things earlier in the fic, estimating the word count of a story, which I didn't think was a strength but lowkeyed said it was their weakness so i guess!

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Description of places blegh, coming up with events for people to do between plot points, describing how people move and gesture? I can see things so clearly in my head it's so hard to describe! it's like "and then they do the face they did in episode 6 where they were like hmnmm you know??" impossible! I should've become an artist!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I would love to if I knew the language well enough but unfortunately I'm english only. I've thrown in a few lines sparingly but I think there's definitely some cool stuff that can happen if it's used right by someone who understands the language well.

19. First fandom you wrote for? I think Jimmy Neutron? I got into fandom young lol

20. Favorite fic you've written? Whatever I'm currently working on is my favorite! I love creating so much and I'm ecstatic imagining all the scenarios and tweaking them over and over and living in their heads and surprising myself when I come up with things I didn't plan! So by that measure my favorite is my unpublished Cyrano inspired romcom but if we're going published, I of course have to go with Multivocal, my heart ❤️ or perhaps A Familiar Sound, my soul! ✨

It is indeed about Kakashi! And, by subplot extension, Sakumo lmao. So Wake the White Wolf was a project I embarked on in late 2018 into early 2019, back in my KakaIru days. It's the longest fic I've ever written, even though it's nowhere near finished - I did 120k in a little over 8 months, and I've never come close to anything like that before.

It was, however, an idea that was too advanced for my skill level at the time, I think. I had a lot of ideas (good ones!) but not the skill to do them justice, which is part of why it's sat in WIP purgatory for the last several years 😭 I've been so busy actually leveling up as a writer and exploring different fandoms that the work it's going to take to breathe new life into the fic was just too much.

Now, however, my Wake the White Wolf document is a beautiful blank page, and also going to be part of my novel-plotting process! I've got a few different plotting methods I'd like to try before I sit down and try to actually puzzle out my novel's plot, and because I know how WWW was supposed to go, I want to do a test run with that story (and then, of course, rewrite it).

There are things I plan to do a little differently this time around, aspects I'd like to flesh out and nail down, but it's been ages since I've really sat down with a Naruto fic and I'm just. Kinda. Giving myself space to feel all right in the fandom again as I work the story out.

Story-wise:

I'm JAZZED AS HELL to really develop the secondary relationships in the fic more. There's a lot of healing to do between Kakashi and Iruka before they really can start to be together (forced marriage trope heehee), and I want both of them to be a little more mature before the turning points really start to hit. I'm especially excited about the IruAnko besties-with-benefits and GenRai "oh, so these relationships CAN work" vision

There's also a great B-plot about Kakashi that has to do with the fic's OC, Sera, and Orochimaru, which was like really vaguely alluded to in what's posted but I'm feral about actually working into the fic.

I wrote this at a time I was really just starting to question my gender and long before I came out as trans, and I think writing the fic (which, looking back, is an exploration of that gender angst) through the lens of a better-adjusted person is going to be a great experience and make for a more coherent, cohesive narrative.

I guess like LONG long story short this is a fic that's haunted me for ages because I really appreciate every single person who's read it but there's also that "fuck, I'm so much better than this" that I just have to GET OVER and rewrite the thing so people can see!!!

Your post is so true like for example the way people go crazy over the sasunaru scenes but they make it all about narutos devotion to sasuke and act like sasuke doesnt love naruto back and fixate only on the naruto side of their relationship its so frustrating

Yeah like with the Land of Waves it was Sasuke who initially was willing to sacrifice himself for Naruto, and he and Iruka were both the people who first showed Naruto that kind of selflessness. And with Sasuke in VoTE1 it’s very clearly a culmination of his struggles with how Itachi traumatized and then retraumatized him and how he believes he needs to kill his best friend in order to grow strong enough to carry out the one task he feels is his only goal in life. He’s right that in Konoha he won’t receive the support he needs from Kakashi and he’s right that Naruto can’t fully understand his grief and rage and that it’s an isolating experience; I think both of them were more violent than they needed to be, but that’s part of the tragedy of it—how both of their struggles are reaching a breaking point and their only knowledge of how to deal with it is through violence from having been raised as weapons and child soldiers. The pivotal moment in the fight is Sasuke winning, looking down at Naruto in the rain, and the choosing to leave and find his own path separate from Itachi’s methods—ultimately his love won out, and it was the culmination of an internal struggle throughout the fight and leading up to it that was well illustrated and central to the story. Despite his problems with framing Sasuke, Kishimoto always gave him clear motivations and never portrayed him as emotionless or uncaring IMO, even if he did veer a little unnecessarily close to portraying him like a cartoon villain at times. The VoTE fights weren’t just Sasuke acting irrationally or without reason like so many people seem to think—the stakes for him were always related to his own desperation and need to acquire justice in whichever way he could understand it at that point in time, and the sense that he needed to isolate himself and becoming ruthless in order to do so. And Sasuke does want to belong and be loved, that’s a significant and visible part of his struggle too, but he sees that as conflicting with his love for his family and his need for justice and closure following the massacre. You miss out on such a core part of those scenes if you don’t account for Sasuke’s perspective, and the fact that no one was truly able to listen to him or to offer a meaningful alternative.

It also bothers me a lot with the Itachi fight and scenes with Itachi in general—Sasuke vs. Itachi was the culmination of Sasuke’s entire character arc up to that point. It was his chance to obtain justice, something he trained and sacrificed for, and something that he couldn’t visualize a future beyond; and the moments after Itachi’s death are so poignant and chilling, you can see both the bitter satisfaction, the sense of being alone and without his one surviving family member, and the fact that he truly didn’t care to live after that point. Itachi’s plot line is so nonsensical and nationalistic that I find it hard to be very invested in his side of things, but the way Sasuke struggles with both loving and hating him is very real to me. But people only talk about “Itachi’s sacrifice” and how he was a genius who planned everything out and it was so selfless of him to say he would always love Sasuke and on and on and ignore the pain and complexity of Sasuke’s side of things in those scenes.

Anyway rant over, thanks for giving me a chance to ramble lol.

Yes, Naruto’s dream started out as too naive and ambitious... But after every Arc, Naruto learns something, Changes himself and his dreams too evolved as a whole... As for Sasuke, Hmmmm......

Am not going on detail with Sasuke's character Journey after Pain Arc because even his rabid stans themselves don't get his character right. They keep on harping about "Sasuke wanted to Change the rotten System" agenda when in reality Sasuke only came to that conclusion towards the very end of the Manga with just 65 chapters to go (Chapter 635). Whereas Sasuke knew the truth about Itachi at around 401st chapter. What was he doing for 200+ chapters though???

They keep on raging about Sasuke wanted justice for Uchiha Clan... When in Reality Sasuke was lounging around with Obito, a guy who massacred his Clan out of pure whim... A guy who kept 100+ sharingans which he stole from his dead clan members right after the massacre... A guy who brought utter disaster to his clan by releasing Kyuubi (a fact Sasuke knew all too well but ignored it conveniently).

They keep on screaming fucking Capitalism and Communism nonsense when in reality Naruto series has never ever hinted such concepts anywhere... Neither did Sasuke.

If his stans themselves don't get his character right close to a remote 10%, It's very much expected that Reddit Dudebros also won't get it...

So, No... The Series couldn’t possibly end around Pain Arc... That’s the path decider of Naruto and Sasuke.

Also, also, I forgot to mention how I'm so glad that not everyone in Konoha leaves their brains in the toilet! The last last chapter when Iruka is trying to figure out Team 8 just warmed my heart. I cannot wait until those children can finally get the justice they deserve be brought home.

I noticed other details about new Naruto merchandising:

They have both Sakura and Hinata as Number 3 (III.) Which is incorrect. Sakura is the high priestess 2 (II,) while Hinata would be the empress 3 (III.) Also Sasuke wrong as the magician is the first (I) as the fool is Zero. Neji should be XI as VIII is strength...or are they using persona's tarot instead of the actual lists?If those are official and not fan made that is embarrassing mistake.

So, Naruto is the Emperor (IV,) Authority Structure Control Fatherhood or tyranny, rigidity, coldness...they probably just gave that to him because he is Hokage...but a lot of the meaning can be ironic...He should be the fool as he is the main character on his journey or not?

Sasuke is the Magician (I,) willpower, desire, creation, manifestation or trickery, illusion, out of touch. Its also is the a mentor that sets the hero off on his journey (effectively, granted chasing after him became Naruto's obsession)

Sakura is the High Priestess (II,) intuitive, unconscious, inner voice, or lack of center, loss of inner voice, repressed feeling... let's real: it fits with what happened to her.

Hinata is the Empress (III,) motherhood, fertility, nature, or dependence, smothering, emptiness, nosiness...so did they give this to her because she married Naruto or the reverse meanings? Especially "dipendence"

Iruka is the Hierophant...think Pope or high priest (V,) tradition conformity morality ethics, or rebellion, subversiveness, new approaches...did they give this to him because he was the first teacher? He would make a better magician.

Shikamaru is the Chariot (VII,) direction control, willpower, or lack of control, lack of direction, aggression...normally means victory or defeat.

Neji is Justice (XI,) cause and effect, clarity, truth, or dishonesty, unaccountability, unfairness...where they being ironic with this one?

Kakashi is the World (XXI,) fulfillment, harmony, completion, or incompletion, no closure. So Kakashi is the world because he was the hokage at the end or something?
