Taking a step back from MD

As you probably know there’s a bit of drama that has spilled SO FAR OVER “haha ppl get mad over ship” and I am honestly not doing well with how hectic it’s become, so for my own sake I probably won’t be posting md related stuff for a while. NOT LEAVING THE FRANCHISE AT ALL MIND YOU, I just currently really don’t feel comfortable discussing/posting about it atm and unfortunately this applies to my side blogs as well. I hope all of my md followers can understand but you’ll be getting my BATIM AU content for a while (or for however long the situation lasts). It’s genuinely making me feel sick bc of how big it’s gotten so Im just gonna lay of off posting md stuff too much. If you really want to discuss this my dms are open

One thing that never fails to piss me off is how media with straight characters who are in objectively unhealthy relationships is generally enjoyed without judgement, but the second that queer people have media with power imbalances or toxicity or or or it’s a whole fucking THING and we’re disgusting deviants for enjoying it.

omg i thought this episode was gonna be sad but 🥺🥺🥺 it's so cute 😭

to clarify, i did cry ONCE when Jihan and Dohan fought, but 'm starting to realize that there's just something about their relationship that like triggers me 💀 i think i'm hardcore projecting my relationship with my older sister onto them lmao, but ANYWAYS this episode was so cute!! first of all, the way Jihan did not give a single shit when what's-his-name told him Dohan is gay was a serve, and i expected nothing less from him. it's also very cute how even as he's trying desperately to break Dohan and Ajeong up he doesn't even consider for a second to tell her that her fiancé is gay. ALLY ‼️‼️ i haven't been the biggest Jihan x Ajeong supporter so far, their chemistry still seems a bit dull to me, but i appreciate how the show let me lose a little bit of respect for Chaewon before Jihan and Ajeong's first kiss. there's nothing that makes me drop a ship faster than watching a beautiful woman pine after a man who does not want her 🤕. the whole scene where Ajeong was crying, telling Jihan how hard she tried to suppress her feelings for him was so adorable, too.

also, now that Dohan knows that Jihan knows about his secret i am officially one step closer to achieving my dream of Dohan and Jihan BESTIES! 🤩😁😁 i'm seriously looking forward to Dohan's reaction to when he realizes that Jihan and Ajeong are highkey into each other tho. i wonder how the plot will move from now? does Dohan tell both of them what's going on (for some reason every time anyone is honest in this drama i get surprised because i'm so used to everything in K-dramas being miscommunication) or are Jihan and Ajeong just gonna proceed roleplaying an "affair" where they both think the other one is betraying Dohan, unable to tell each other that they both know he's gay? Are we diving into more family and company drama now?? werk.

Y’ALL NEED TO STOP ARGUING ABOUT BILLIE EILISH I SWEAR

She was obviously just being funny and in the comments of her post, it looks like other queer public figures (JVN, Lucy Dacus, Amybeth McNulty, Stevie Boebi, Alix Traeger, even Autumn Kennedy who runs tstourtips) are playing along in the comments. I think it’s heartwarming!

Yes, it’s clear she personally does not want to let the topic of her queerness overshadow her art in interviews, and she wasn’t quite ready for that follow up question from the Vareity interviewer. She looked nervous. she wanted to be able to come out casually and move on. (Perhaps she was just tired of being assumed straight or called a queerbaiter, and it was as simple as needing to quickly clear up public misconception. Which is so fair.)

All of that said, she could have taken into account that the media and public can be both dumb and malicious, and that they would try to twist her funky li’l IG vent out of context and then blame the sweet reporter, who was quite nice (plus queer and PoC herself!). To an extent Billie should have expected and prepared for the polite follow-up questions, considering that her ideal world (where sexuality isn’t a big deal) isn’t the world we’re living in yet, especially outside of rich celebrity circles. It is important information that she should clarify, even for her own protection from the media/public trying to twist her initial vague statements about attraction to women this way or that. Her team prepared her poorly.

(We can make the argument that the Variety reporter could perhaps have started with “Are you comfortable answering questions about your sexuality?” … but I’m sure if at any point Billie had said “Actually I would rather talk about my music or fashion right now,” the reporter would have immediately complied anyway. I think she makes it quite clear that she is a part of the community, and ally and a safe space and well intentioned. Billie was just put on the spot, she didn’t think of that route. And she wanted to vent on IG, because it must be so much to deal with when millions of people and the fucking BBC is suddenly talking about your sexuality. That’s all.)

Still, I agree with y’all in that Billie’s wording on the IG post was poor considering how the masses are unsurprisingly thinking of it as an accusation. Perhaps most importantly, using the word “outing” lightheartedly is tone deaf considering recent events where celebrities have been forced to come out or actually outed. And that’s something Billie could take away from the absolute media clusterfuck this is becoming.

Finally, I agree that she is very privileged and has a lot of influence she could use to support the LGBTQ+ community. But she’s still a person and she deserves to “come out” (or like, just start talking about her queerness) and have people not make a big deal about her identity if that is what’s most comfortable to her. This is a right all queer people should have regardless of their status. She doesn’t owe it to us to immediately become a queer spokesperson. Identity is hard for everyone. You guys are quickly forgetting how people accused her of queerbaiting back when she put out the Lost Cause MV and captioned a photo “i love girls”. (Why people are obsessed with labels, and the nuances of it are a whole other rant for another day, but I digress.) And honestly? She’s so right, leave her alone. She’s had fucking enough. Let queer people be.

TL; DR: Billie is not mad at any reporters for “outing” her. Billie doesn’t think anyone “outed” her in the first place! Billie is just annoyed that a big deal was made of her sexuality after she started talking about her queerness (which she did, intentionally and of her own accord, and also confirmed that it was a coming out of sorts from her end). She simply did not feel ready to talk about it again at 11:00 AM on the red carpet and all the attention was nerve-wracking. So she was venting using (albeit tone-deaf) hyperbolae on an IG post. The reporter was great, too, and absolutely should not be canceled. I hope this clears it up.

What happened to Holland honestly broke me. It’s so sad to still see in this day and age that someone can still be a victim of a hate crime.

It’s just bewildering to me since k-pop in general is a place where a lot of male idols do skinship to appeal to their audience. Doing games that require them to be close or almost kiss, some re-enacting romance scenes from movies, members doing certain acts on stage to get the crowd riled up, etc.

I’m heartbroken and hope they can find the person that did this 💔

#i wanna complain about my monday so hi tags you’re my rant victims now— #so like i was already super crabby this morning after sleeping through 2 alarms. which was the perfect start to the monday really. #i ended up leaving the house late (as you do) and when i finally got onto the train that’d take me to my workplace… there weren’t any seats #standing for an hour-long journey across the country when you wanted to nap along said journey is unwarrantedly angering y k ಠ‿ಠ #and when i finally reached my stop… the bus that i had to take to my workplace was right there at the bus stop. i could make it if i ran!!!! #so i ran… but there were these two ladies walking at a snails pace down the stairs leading to the bus stop. ಠ‿ಠ #so ofc i missed the bus by a single second. like，the bus pulled off from the stop the moment i ran up to it. not. fun. #so i was a little late to work (still within the grace period though which was cool ig) #then i was told that i’d be stationed at the worst workstation and i!!!! aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! #the freakin’ calibration check thing kept failing by 0.20!!!!!!!! it was soooo closeee but nooooo it just had to fail. #thankfully my coworker helped me with part of the workstation while i suffered. nice dude. #i kept (almost) falling asleep in front of the computer while waiting for the checks and stuff though. but i couldn’t actually sleep so :( #it’s too early in the week for this nonsense </3 i hate it here </333 #and then i found out that ✨drama✨ happened at work on saturday… but i was completely unaware of it bc i’m oblivious af. truly saddening #i could’ve witnessed greatness— but noooo i just had to loop my music at full blast instead #anyways the workday passed exhaustingly. i gained my energy in the afternoon though. which was dumb bc it meant my morning was unproductive #and ofc when i was about to clock out… i got a scam call while i was in the workplace bathroom. how auspicious #and thanks to the few minutes that i wasted on that bs i missed the earlier bus out of the workplace. yay #and ofcccccc when i finally got a seat on my commute back… i’m stuck between 2 manspreaders. the temptation to kick their legs is real ngl #literally hate it here </3 i should’ve called in sick today #i just hope that i won’t have to teach the interns anything tomorrow… fingers crossed mans #i’m just. sooooooo tired. and done with this. why can’t sunday come sooner </3 #inedible blubbering

Kim Chi competed on and nearly won Season 8 of RuPaul's Drag Race, and is a Korean man with Korean parents. He is 34 years old and at the time he competed, his mother knew only that he was a gay makeup artist. His father and his brother didn't even know he was gay. And I'm not sure they know now. And this dude lives in Los Angeles by way of Chicago. I can't imagine what his life would be like in Seoul, or Daegu, or Busan. And while Kev agreed that yeah, okay, drag is a step farther, he also said, interestingly, that drag might have been MORE acceptable to his own Korean mother (rest her soul) than having a gay son would have been. Because he could have argued that he was into it for the theater - a bit of Japanese kabuki styling - versus "oh hey eomma I do sexy time with men, woke up gay today, bit fruity."

So the upshot is that gay fiction is one thing, but gay reality is entirely another. We're back to the "we don't talk about those things here, it isn't polite." Enjoying the romantic drama of two young (they're always young, Kevin noted, not being particularly young himself) pretty men is not the same thing as seeing Jungshin from accounting on a dating show.... for GAY PEOPLE. And Kevin pointed out that honestly, even BTS are seen as fictional characters in Korea (and likely elsewhere). The idea that they are real human men with real romantic interests and real sex drives doesn't really fly, there. Not yet, anyway. So the "boy love" aspect is fine, as long as they're young, famous, pretty, and they don't admit to TOO much.

This is okay. But if they kissed or came out, that would NOT BE OKAY. And Taekook is not real, but the Jeon Parks are about as loud as they can get what with dropping honorifics like that, so as long as they're riding the line of fiction vs reality they're still okay. Full on reality or even depicting reality, though, is still not okay - at least, not on the Seoul Broadcasting Network (SBS), who censored out the kisses in "Bohemian Rhapsody", the Freddie Mercury biopic as recently as 2021. And that caused some backlash on the internet:

OKAY WAIT i keep changing my mind about this show but episode 4 was really good 😭 first of all, this episode was really freaking funny -- was that a ZB1 Ricky reference?? "young and rich, tall and handsome" charisma boss baby Jihan inmida?? also when that guy clapped after Jihan told the rude actress lady off and she said "did you just clap?" i laughed really hard 😭he had to clap for THE RIZZLER ‼️‼️ omg and speaking of !!!!! Jihan flirting with Ajeong isn't making me cringe anymore? well like at the beginning of the episode when he was like "your heart isn't fluttering?? are you sure? :/" i cringed so bad, but otherwise he was rizzy as hell this episode!! i love to see my boy winning. i'm still not entirely keen on Ajeong and it's still Chaewon for the win, but i'm starting to see the cuteness in Jihan x Ajeong.

I know the whole conversation of idols can get their teeth fixed if they want cause it’s their decision an sometimes people in general get their teeth straightened cause it’s causing problems and things like my teeth for example have been causing me pain cause they are pushing again each other sideways, but I really like the way some idols teeth look like cnu from B1A4 I loved his buck teeth. In my day that’s what they were called but now people call him bunny teeth? I guess and I know Nayeon recently got her’s straightened and it doesn’t change the fact that they are still good looking but I have this odd thing for teeth and idols with teeth that aren’t like perfect white squares I find a charm to. I like the way they look like cnu and woojin and laon and sangwook and mingi. Like Sangwook had a snagged tooth and Dajeong has lil fangs and Laon had a lil fang and I like that mingi’s front teeth kinda look a little sideways.

I know it’s silly to complain or obsess over someone else’s teeth like that’s weird but I just was watching a wild animal video and Kyuhyun (laon) got his teeth fixed and I guess maybe it was causing him pain? Idk or if he was pressured to cause of his part in the drama idk if it was his decision or not and it’s his body obviously and he still looks good and has his cute smile and dimples but Idk I just really liked his lil snaggle tooth but if he’s happy than it’s not my place to complain.

I know for me when I was younger I wanted braces cause I wanted perfect teeth but now I’m hesitant on getting them straightened even tho they cause me pain cause 1. It’s expensive and 2. I just started to like the way my teeth are. But I also want to get like fang implants 💀💀💀
