a list of the best aftg fics i’ve read so far:

- “dead of night” by niknak22 (a character study of kevin day, with kerejean hints and so, so much angst. kevin is a really interesting character and i love what niknak22 did with him)

- “say something” by willowbird (genuinely that whole series is awesome. andrew pov of neil struggling with trauma, going non-verbal and injuries, angsty but mostly wholesome.)

- “i wanna see you (be brave)” by arkastadt (matt’s pov of andreil developing… so beautiful. also, has loads of funny moments with the upperclassmen & shows their friendship)

- “odd eye” by tdashshirts (best andrew character study ever. it’s amazing and has inspired me to try and write more on andrew for myself)

- “an abridged family medical guide” by 30degreesandsnowing (if you haven’t read this, what are you doing? i’m not usually one for sickfics but this one is just… chefs kiss. kandreil too!)

Kevin's obsession with Jeremy and the Trojans is god tier, obviously, but I think it runs deeper than we give it credit for. Kevin was raised to believe that perfection was all that mattered. And that in order to be the best player, you had to crush whoever got in your way. Push yourself past the breaking point. Be victorious or die trying. No sacrifice was too great. Then comes along the Trojans, and they're nothing like that. They believe being kind to others and kind to yourself. They believe that mistakes can be used to learn and improve. And that philosophy actually makes them successful. I think that Kevin loves the trojans because they showed him that being the best at exy didn't require the cruelty of the ravens.

That said, he definitely still does have a crush on Jeremy.

It was Kevin's idea to start a goodwill exchange program between the Foxes and the Trojans. He didn't realize that meant sharing his personal space with one of the Trojans—never mind sharing space with Jeremy and the resulting pressure.
