WEEK 1.2 - Existing Brochures

To gain some inspiration, I researched existing brochure designs that stood out to me.

1. Plovdiv City Branding 03 by Antonella Malachite

-Although the compositions of the panels are diverse and alternate between the main colours and type, the overall design is cohesive. 

-The illustrations complement the type effectively, and these two elements balance each other out.

-Overall, creativity and rhythm isn’t compromised for functionality, as each single panel uses a grid system for text, making the information easy to follow.

2. Porto's Best Photography Spots | Folding Brochure by Barbara Kipfer Cazzato

-The typography is fun and is a significant visual element in this design. I like that it has a marker/hand drawn aesthetic. 

-The colour and contrast make the design visually pleasing, and the use of negative space and balance make the information very straightforward. This is an example of minimalism being unique and creative. 

-The line illustrations are creative and make the concept of this brochure unique, as it is about photograph spots, but doesn’t utilise actual photography.

3. by Kokoro & Moi

-As someone who likes using bright colours, these designs stood out to me as they are energetic, captivating, and fun to look at.

-The illustration and rotated letters complement the use of colour, and also utilise negative space and contrast very well, making the panels easy to follow.

-The use of squares is consistent which makes the design cohesive and consistent, especially the grid systems and margins.

4. Square Magazine Layout with Pop Style Elements by McLittle Stock (Adobe Stock)

-Although this is a stock template, it reminds me of Memphis Design. I like the illustrative elements and use of solid colour blocking and thick lines to separate sections.

-This aesthetic would make the layout simple and functional, while also utilising negative space and contrast effectively.

La ignorancia que nos hace vivir en esta ilusión, es la razón por la cual nos apegamos al mundo: a nuestros bienes, nuestro «yo», a la vida misma, etc..
