@rockheadcd sent: ❝ i'm not staring at you, i'm admiring you. ❞ oh, you know. :)
Malachite gaze remained half opened as he stares up at Steven, his body aching and bruised from being thrown back from one era to another and back again, feeling eyes upon him a little far too long—concerned that Steven was focusing on his injuries more then anything, though, it seemed as though that he want the case.
Wallace did not know how long he was in Hisui for—though with how relieved that Steven and Wallace’s Pokémon ( especially poor Kireina who was beside herself ), it must have been much longer for them then it was for him. Lips parted to question—“Why are you staring at me?” Only to be returned with an answer of admiration, more then anything; which made his malachite gaze soften, fingers curling around Steven’s hand and bringing it upwards to press his lips against his knuckles—eyes closing a she lingered there before looking up at him; waterfall hair dishevelled and body tired; however, Wallace was still Wallace—and he was home.
“I always felt like I was missing something while I was there…” his voice trailed off for a moment, gaze flickering away briefly before focusing back upon his lover; the corner of his lips twitching into the softest smile he could muster.

Atonement - SID
Lyrics: Mao
Composer: Yuuya
Kobore ochiru ketsumatsu ni tachitsukushiteru
I’m standing still waiting for the end to spill over and fall
Tsumi no ato ni nokoru no wa iro no nai shinikaruna sugao
What remains after sin is a colorless cynical bare face
Kiri ga kakaru shinjitsu no mori wo samayoi tsuzuke
Continuing to wander through the foggy forest of truth
Tsukarehateta sono mukougawa ni mitsuketa kireina fukusen
Exhausted I found a beautiful foreshadowing on the other side of it
Abakareta yozora ni chiru futsukazuki
The crescent moon scatters in the exposed night sky
Hakanaku mo utsukushii haiboku no uta
A fleeting yet beautiful poem of defeat
Ano koro ni egaita sekai no hate ga
The end of the world I envisioned back then
Me no mae ni hirogaru nanimo kamo ga mou owaru
Everything that spreads before my eyes is already over
Saigo no yoru kara kazoe sakanoboru tsumikasaneta gosa
The calculating errors accumulated when counting back from the last night
Modorenai kedo kuyande mo osoi kedo kioku no hou e
But I can’t go back and it’s too late for regrets, so I head towards memories
Nukedasenai meiro no pazuru wo me wo tsumuri nazoru hibi
The days when I close my eyes and trace the maze of puzzles I can’t get out of
Kareru made nagashite mata asa ga kuru
I let them spill until they cease and morning comes again
Hakujitsumu ni yureru karappo no jikan
Empty time swaying in daydreams
Ano koro ni egaita risou no hate ga
The end of the ideals I envisioned back then
Me no mae wo oou tsumi ga horobiru made wa
Until the sin covering my eyes perishes
Abakareta yozora ni chiru futsukazuki
The crescent moon scatters in the exposed night sky
Hakanaku mo utsukushii haiboku no uta
A fleeting yet beautiful poem of defeat
Ano koro ni egaita sekai no hate ga
The end of the world I envisioned back then
Me no mae ni hirogaru
Spreads before my eyes
Kareru made nagashite mata asa ga kuru
I let them spill until they cease and morning comes again
Hakujitsumu ni yureru karappo no jikan
Empty time swaying in daydreams
Ano koro ni egaita risou no hate ga
The end of the ideals I envisioned back
Me no mae wo oou tsumi ga horobiru made wa
Until the sin covering my eyes perishes
*Translator’s note: “The end of the world“ isn’t meant in terms of destruction, but it’s referring to the furthermost places of the world or the edge of the world.

Venti, or Wendy, if you will. I’m only one of the thousand winds… As for this name, see in me a friend, just as he saw in me his, for he led the rebellion that freed Mondstadt.
O my friend! This song’s for you!🍃
.
Initially I only wrote the first and last couplets but then decided to add more to it. It’s kind of based off of the lie, in “The Boy and the Whirlwind” story PV too🍃
See this post for the context of Venti’s name

what are your favorite hikaru utada songs?
oh GOD THAT IS SO HARD???
I actually really like her song Too Proud, which I feel like is a bit of a curveball choice? The rap feature is fucking embarrassing but idk... it's a fucking earworm and I am a suuucker for when beautiful vocals are contrasted with more intense vocals (in this case, a fairly staccato rap). And the song just really feels like a more polished successor to her english album.
Speaking of her English album, I adore the entire thing but I want to shout out Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI for introducing me to Ryuichi Sakamoto (still mourning him). But the real stand out on that album is On and On... which I listen to every pride month, obsessively. Knowing she's nonbinary and probably bi (she never explicitly came out but... it's been strongly hinted??) makes it even better, though it was HILARIOUS as a straight cis ally anthem, too. Lmao.
I feel like beyond that... a lot of my picks are fairly obvious and her bigger tracks (Hikari/Simple and Clean, Sanctuary/Passion, Beautiful World (though my fave version is the De Capo ver), Distance M Flo Remix, One Last Kiss) but if I'm going for some that haven't received their proper dues...
虹色バス (Rainbow Colored Bus) is both soothing and exciting.
~2:44 until the send of Kireina Hito (Find Love) is one of my fave 2 minutes of hers because it goes from a very quiet moment and the instrumental slowly builds itself up and adds element, going from the bubble keyboard moments to throwing in the drum kit and it just feels like it's creeping over to take over your consciousness while still being extremely simple. It feels stripped and yet it has more nad more going on, with her own breathy signs becoming a part of the back beat.
Could never forget her lesbi-jazz romance song with Sheena Ringo.
God, I can keep going. Traveling (especially the 10+ minute remix, lol), Kremlin Dusk, Deep River, Stay Gold, Sakura Drops, Flavor of Life, Celebrate, Eclipse - Interlude, and so much more. I spent YEARS falling asleep to "I am a Bear," to the point that I can't listen to it now without being a bit stressed out BUT I adored how like... lullaby-esque it was.
I really... really can't decide.

okay so let’s get started with this
the first two years of my life were quite normal, I was living with my sister and my parents and nothing much really happened
then when i was like about three years old things started to get a bit messy
my sister went “missing” and i was all alone with my mother most of the time
my father wasn’t really that much at home simply bc he had to work a lot, but still he was really good and i really loved him
one day my mother took me to a “doctor”, at least that’s what she told me that day
she and the said doctor told me that there was something wrong with me so, again the doctor, had to inject me with some sort of medicine
the thing that he injected was in fact not medicine and i was in a lot of pain for several days
that’s how i got some sort of strange powers, but we will talk more about that later
so yeah that was when my mother started to get very abusive towards me, both physically and mentally, and also started to push me to do a lot of training (take note that i was 3/4 at the time)
and this is when she started to call me her masterpiece and became more and more obsessed with me as time went by
in the meantime my dad couldn’t do that much about it, as he both was not home ‘cause of work and also was getting abused by my mother like me
skipping one year we get to the point where my whole world actually collapses with my whole house
this is basically me saying that when i was 5 my whole family died with our house collapsing while we were inside
well not actually my whole family but mostly
that’s how i lost my arm
they immediately sent me to the hospital where i miraculously survived
then though i had to escape just bc i did not want to get adopted by another family
that’s when a miracle happened and i found my still alive grandma, who let me move in with her
and along with my grandma in that house was my sister, she was pretty messed up too
some years pass and everything goes quite calm and well
my sis helped me make the robot prosthetic that i have now, just like how she made her hand prosthetic
we also found many friends in the mean while, two of them are still really good friends of our, and they are chiara and kireina
but as u may have already guessed, i don’t have that much of an easy life, so BOOM my grandma dies, and me and anna, my sis, are left alone
we had to get out of that house, ‘cause the authorities would have probably put us up for adoption if they found us, and we did not want that
so for like five months we had to live on the street, until, again miraculously, we found our now home, where we also found our health care assistant robot friend, our demon ferret friend, and our big ass feline friend (they are all older than us so i guess we could call them our legal guardians)
but in this house we did not only find them, we also found a book that from what we read belonged to our family, and we still don’t know how it got there
so yeah we start figuring out magic and the story of our family, but i will not talk about that ‘cause this is getting really long
we also find some other stuff out but i will skip that too and talk about when my dear mother kidnapped me
OH AND WE ALSO HAVE A BIT OF NEW ENTRIES (one of them is my platonic partner theo)
so from what i remember she kidnapped me one night and like took me to whole another dimension just bc that way she could get me to become the masterpiece she always wanted me to be
most of the things that happened there are really blurry just ‘cause like my soul was kind of out of my body, but that is also another story
i do know that when i got back to my senses it was the most painful shit ever
but that’s when my senses were back so like let’s talk about that
basically my sister and our group of friends found me in some kind of way, and they made a plan to rescue me
it was really hard to do so bc at the time i was only listening to my mother orders, so there was a lot of fighting
but eventually my sis snapped me out of it and that’s when i started to help them fight my mother, and also started to be in a LOT of pain
at the end though we imprisoned that bitch in that dimension and got home happily (even if some of us were badly injured and theo fucking LOST HIS LEG)
now i’m going to stop, there are some more things that are a bit more happy and even some fun facts but this is getting to long and i’m getting tired

//Renmeraki
I think I have told you how terrible my 2021 was. But maybe, maybe, I haven’t told you this one: it began on August.
I remember: farewells. Too many farewells. It’s always goodbyes that makes things harder, isn’t it? End of college means that people would eventually leave the city for their family, prolonged hometown, dreams, work. Meanwhile, I did not. It was my whimsical choice to stay. As I’m thinking of it now, what I wanted was not actually staying in the city; what I wanted was to succumb in the memories I had made in all over its body.
I did internships and took part-time jobs in places, so that I could manipulate my head into thinking that I was alive and useful—and to my parents: that I still had reasons not to come home (I could tell you how many times Mum begged me to and how many times I regret that I was not acting like a good kid and obey her instantly, but I am not writing that pathetic essay).
So, I am rewriting it here. I did internships and took part-time jobs in places, so that I could manipulate my head into thinking that I was alive and useful. But there was one particular time when I came to realize that I was not manipulating my head into thinking that I was alive—'cause I was alive. It was when Renmeraki Architect decided to let me in.
***
Don’t Wake Me Up When September Ends
I am still wondering whether or not being an architect was in my card since the beginning. All I can remember is that I aspire to be a wordsmith. I even did my final project in architecture with poems and silly doodles. It was a museum, that is one thing. But, combining it with fairytales? That is another thing. This might not be the most authentic idea, but pretty sure this was definitely the most un-architectural project ever.
Therefore, in my admission letter to Renmeraki, I also wrote ‘writer’ in the job proposal table and sent my sort-of-writing-portfolio next to the design one. There is still a part of me desiring it to come true, to be a writer.
But in Renmeraki, I saw people seemed to live for the sake of architecture.
Constantly, I witnessed Mas Ren—who always comes out with the most unimaginable things—tailoring his designs very precisely as though it was a fragile creature—while, time to time, ensuring that we had the most comfortable place to work in. I saw Teh Amel taking care of interior details as well as teaching me how to render from scratch; knee-deep in notes as well as keeping the conversations going on with clients (no matter how boring it was).
I saw Mas Indro repeatedly distressed and yet still enjoyed doing his daily structural works (please note that by structural, I mean that exact post and beam) while throwing jokes to the table—what a pure soul. I saw Tante Rani (a.k.a Roni) glittered in smiles when we visited her beautifully designed interior for an apartment in the city, only fifty meters from our hive. I saw Ayeng, heartfully assisting the same façade project again and again (Ayeng if u read this, u know what I’m talking HAHA); providing endless energy while helping everybody with anything: free Indomaret jastip (with Ajeng) and laughter. Most importantly, she always responds to my jokes, no matter how cringe it was (I know that this is un-architectural but I want to put it here anyway).
I saw Ajeng trying to catch up with this new world she stepped in as a student (she graduated now, anyway. CONGRATS, GVRL!) as well as the somehow-funny-confusion she regularly showed. Rei Hana Kireina, Teh Amel’s little sister (along with Ajeng, Ayeng, Roni) who always knew how to answer interior-y problems, who has the most infectious laughter on Earth. I saw Rudi, my batchmate, always ever so passionate talking about the future of architecture. And lastly, Melinda Potter (A Gryffindorian), who came daily to the office from the other side of the world, with whom I shared my first project with.
I paused. I came to think that maybe it is not that bad to be an architect. Instead, it is tempting in its way.
***
Too Many Places, Too Little Time
The sense of separating from the people whom I shared at least my two years with was horrible. It’s like you are suddenly not allowed to come to your favorite bakery before school ‘cause the cakes are too sugary and your Mum is worried from watching some random YouTube videos. It’s like losing reasons to walk to school—‘cause, what school would be without too-sugary-cakes for brunch? It was the time when I considered that maybe loneliness can be the worst feeling.
As much as I said I am an introvert, living with huge troops for several years had changed me. It was torturing to stay all day in my place. Indeed, I was somehow fear of missing out.
Then suddenly, I had busy days during this internship. Mas Rendy always told us to experience all the possible works our office is having at the moment; site visitation, architecture observations, measurement (!!!), client-meetings, project control. But the busy-ness sometimes including: casual lunch/dinner, café-hopping, beach. Suddenly, I had something worth waiting for the weekends. Always.

Early (Grey) Year
In the end of 2021, I gotta come back for a moment ‘cause Mum suddenly decided to die.
Mas Ren allowed me to take day-off until Mum’s 40 harian, but I refused to take. It was partially ‘cause it seemed like all of a sudden everyone had made plans for my life—that I should come back to take care of Dad (which now I regret. Why on earth would I take this stupid path), and the rest half was ‘cause I could not stand any longer in the house where I used to share my life with Mum.
Early January 2022 I came back to the city to wave my goodbye. There were new folks in the office—some were old friends from college (Cece As Ida, Ria Racing) and some are new acquaintance (Kharisma, Izzati, Sabrina). I actually met Kharisma and Izza in the end of 2021, though.
It somehow made me sad knowing that this is what’s going to happen: our lovely office would grow up, new people would always come in: interns, clients. It made me sad knowing that I ran out of time. I was offered to stay a bit longer—little did everyone knew how bad I wanted to do so, had the situation been different.
But I was also happy knowing that I took a tiny-tiny part here.

***
Train Rides, It’s Always The Train Rides
In one of our last site visitations, Mas Ren took me and Izza to Tulungagung. We took a morning train—beautiful timing. Though the sun came out in the morning, the rest of the day was gloomy—it was either raining or cloudy.
We came back at night—beautiful timing. I don’t recall who started first, or maybe it was merely because it was ‘night’: we had a talk. The serious one. That kind of talk you wouldn’t have in a normal day in office.
It always stoned me seeing people around me sharing their stories. Though it might only be small things for them, it means the whole world for me. I always believe that only people who trust you that share their vulnerability.
It’s always the train rides, indeed. It was that exact train ride that made me feel accepted in this place.

Hindia and the Hidden Farewells
Dad came to Malang in early February. It meant I only had less than 10 days in the city.
Within the same week of my father’s arrival, I officially resigned as an intern from Renmeraki Architect. But guess what, it was apparently also a goodbye for Kharisma and The Amel. So we had our usual ritual: presentations. Mas Ren Invited us to a coffeeshop nearby Taman Kunang-Kunang. The dress-code: blue denim and white.
I wonder, what is the color of confusion?
I was confused ‘cause I felt relieved that I was not alone taking such a weird path. However, I also took it in a very sentimental way, ‘cause it somehow was happening: people are leaving. Departures, separation—the strangest thing mundane human ever experience.
Why can’t we just live forever and never get separated?
I wonder, what is the color of goodbyes?
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
To sum up this long crap: if there’s something that I’m grateful for happening in 2021, it is that I found a home named Renmeraki—and hence including: the moments, the people (oh, and the plants. and the chairs. and the curtain. and the---).
Ad astra per aspera, Renmeraki!

Notes:
This song is about the Mad Hatter falling in love with Alice, and falling further into madness trying to get her to love him. ("Your ribbon is hidden inside" is a strange line, which makes me think it somehow alludes to drugs in the sweets, but my Japanese isn't good enough to be sure)
This song is so catchy! I love the dark twist on Alice in Wonderland! This tiny album is absolutely adorable too! Not only is every song wonderful, but all the artwork was drawn by Yura herself!
♠️Please consider buying this album to support Yura Hatsuki on her booth!♥️

Toshiro x Shinigami Reader
Tumblr media
Icing Wars (Bleach: Non-Canon Chapter from my Toshiro Fanfic on Wattpad/Quotev)
Warnings: OC Kireina changed to Reader (so if there are any female pronouns I missed, that's why it's there), 3rd Pov switched, fluff?
What happens when making cupcakes with Toshiro turns into war?
You stirred around in Orihime's kitchen, you'd just got back from the grocery store with ingredients. You speedily took them out of the bags, eager to begin.
"I'm glad they had a deal on some of the ingredients, I don't like spending a lot of money, but in this neighborhood, things are cheap!" You hummed quietly to yourself as you got bowls, a whisk, and whatnot.
"[Name] what are you doing?"
You jumped at the voice of the Captain, before continuing to prep the ingredients, "Ah, Captain Hitsugaya. I'm making cupcakes."
He raised a brow that you couldn't see, "Cupcakes? Why?"
You turned to him with a shrug, "I just felt like it, I suppose."
You also had a sweet tooth, you hadn't eaten sweets in a while so you were craving sugar terribly.
"Well, I would say don't make a mess, but that isn't a concern when that comes to you," he turned to leave you to your baking.
"Wait! Captain Hitsugaya?"
He turned around to see you with a curious expression, yet there was a hint of shyness there too.
"Yes?"
"Would you, ah, like to bake them with me?"
You got silence and furrowed brows from him in response.
"I mean, if you're busy, that's just fine. I just-"
"I would, but I don't know how to bake."
Your eyes lit up with excitement, Toshiro couldn't help it when his eyes softened.
"I'll show you, here," you kept your tone level, but he'd already seen your enthusiasm.
"Why are we wearing gloves, [Name]?" Toshiro asked as he flexed his fingers in the black gloves.
You grabbed the flour, "I don't want to get batter on our hands, the cleaner the process the better," and placed the bowl on the small counter in front of you both, "Okay, we separate the dry ingredients from the wet. Since you haven't done this before, I'll get you a measuring cup."
"You don't need one?" he asked as you rummaged through the assortment of items you'd bought.
"Depends on what I'm making, once I've done it enough, I can eyeball it," you gave a small smile when you found what you were looking for.
"You really have been baking for a long time, huh?"
You handed him the measuring cup, "Yes. A very, very, long time. Since I was a child," you sighed before explaining the measurements for each dry and wet ingredient, helping him when needed.
"All right, now you mix."
He grabbed the whisk and started to mix the ingredients.
"Not that hard!" you sweatdropped.
"How do I have to mix it then?" he deadpanned.
"I'll show you," you gently gripped his hand and started to move yours, at an even speed and a lot gentler than he was. "Like this."
"R-right."
Once you'd guided him for half a minute, you let his hand go, "You got it?"
"What?"
You looked at his face, "Do you get it now? --Why is your face pink?"
He looked away, mixing as you did, "Don't worry about it--and yes, I can do it right now."
After Toshiro mixed the batter, you prepared the cupcake tray with him, showing him what to do, "Make sure you add a little oil, butter, or cooking spray before you pour the batter in makes it easier to take cakes or cupcakes out when they're done."
"Got it."
After the cupcake pan was filled, you slid it in the preheated oven, "Also make sure you preheat the oven to the right temperature before you put it in, and you don't have an issue with patience...often anyway, so wait for the correct time and check on it."
He closed his eyes, an irk mark slightly pulsing, "I'm going to ignore that comment you slid in--What happens if they aren't done after that time?"
"Leave it in a little longer, but don't take too long to check up on it. Or it might have been made wrong, either-or."
"What do we do in the meantime?"
You grabbed the dishes and whisk, "Clean up, then we can get the icing and decorations out."
The both of you started to clean up the ingredients, then Toshiro grabbed the flour just as you were walking back to the counter.
"Ah, my bad, [Name]."
He grabbed the bag a little too rough and a little bit of flour flew into your face.
You wiped it away with a rag, "It's okay. I'm fine."
You were not fine. You were getting payback.
"Now that the cupcakes are done, we have to let them cool down. We can't put the icing on them right away," You informed as you got the both of you a new set of gloves each.
Toshiro contemplated this, "I guess that makes sense, if they were too hot, everything would melt, right?"
"Yes, we don't want our icing to melt. So, in the meantime, let's pick decorations and make some icing."
"Make?"
You gave a startling low chuckle, showing him all the colors and the icing ingredients in your arms, "Make."
He sweatdropped, [Name]'s personality sure changes when they start baking...
You started showing him how to make the icing, "You put whatever shape you want for the tip of the piping bag, once it's secure, scoop your icing in and hold it from the top."
He followed your instructions, "All right...Squeeze it like this?"
"Yes--these piping bags are a bit easier to use than the ones from back then," You had a flashback to the piping bags of the 1800s.
"[Name], stop, you're making a really weird face right now," he told you as he carefully iced his cupcake the way you showed him.
"My bad."
The two of you continued to quietly ice your cupcakes side-by-side, Toshiro had a light blue whipped icing and you had pink.
After you finished your last cupcake you glanced over at the captain, focused on finishing his last two cupcakes.
Perfect, he was preoccupied.
You glanced at your piping bag, glad to see you measured perfectly, leaving just enough. Then you glanced at the bowl that still had some icing leftover.
"Captain Hitsugaya."
He glanced over, "Yes-?"
Pink icing was on his cheek.
His face was blank, he froze, the only thing moving was his eyelids.
You didn't think about the fact that this was Captain Hitsugaya, your boss. And he might be terribly upset.
"Ah...I apologize for my unprofessional-?!"
You looked at the tip of your nose, there was light blue icing.
Did he...?
Your eyes met his blank face, but his eyes gave away everything.
And a minute later you were at war, pink icing against blue in a small kitchen, both of you trying to hold in your laughs, but giggles still slipped out.
Toshiro had you cornered, icing in his hair, a bit on his face, and some in his piping bag, ready to release it.
You had blue icing on your apron, a little on your cheek, and your gloved hands held up in surrender," Wait! Wait! Wait!"
He raised a brow, "You started it."
"Okay, fair, but..."
He slowly got closer, you backed up with each step, "Are you afraid, [Name]?"
Your back hit the wall, "Not necessarily..."
A hand rested beside each side of your head as he caged you between himself and the wall, "Your breathing changed."
You looked up at him--wait since when had he grew taller than you? It seems only by an inch but still. "You're just hearing things, captain."
His hand slowly reached out to your face, you closed your eyes on instinct, you heard a soft chuckle and a feather-light touch on your cheek.
You opened your eyes to see Toshiro looking at some blue icing on the pad of his thumb, "I shouldn't have aimed for your face."
You didn't fully process that your boss had just touched your face. Why? Because he licked the icing off his thumb.
You felt her face get hot. Why?
"What are you guys up to?"
You both jumped, Rangiku was at the kitchen entrance, smirking at you both, "Am I interrupting something?"
"No."
"Yes."
Toshiro looked at you, surprised by your answer.
You seemed to be surprised too, "No..."
"Well, whatever's happening, you guys should clean up. Honestly, it's kind of strange that I'm telling you two this."
You two looked around the kitchen, both paling at the mess you had to clean.
You twitched uncontrollably, "So. Much. Mess. Imperfection. Terrible."
Rangiku pointed at you, blinking owlishly while you kept talking as you cleaned furiously, "I think [Name]'s broken."

steven’s metagross lore dump while i wait for cs6 to run its import script:
> metagross’ evolution from beldum to metang to metagross is a series of joining brains working together, but they each remain unique. with four inputs, this is why metagross refers to themselves as ‘we’.
> although not particularly a democracy at play when they make decisions, each original beldum retains it’s own specific memories that’s shared among the whole unit. one of these beldum is steven’s first one from when he began his adventures, which is why metagross has such a strong attachment to him.
> metagross doesn’t have a nickname other than probably just ‘meta’, which they will respond to.
> when mega evolved, it’s very competitive. maybe too competitive. as a reigning champion’s ace, they take their role very seriously ( and have genuinely injured competition because of it ).
> steven has multiple metagross that he trains, seeing as he’s an avid beldum appreciator they kind of just....follow him home half of the time. however, this metagross accompanies him just about everywhere.
> metagross has multiple signs of wear and tear, where the edge between facets have been chipped away. their psychic abilities outweigh their physical abilities as they age, so long as they exercise the network between each of their brains.
> they love puzzle games a LOT. steven got a console just for them to play puzzle games online. watching two metagross play tetris is terrifying.
> all four brains adore wallace’s milotic, kireina. they’ve been together alongside their dads for years. i promise you they figured things out sooner than steven has. :^)
> saltwater is a weird sensation. it feels like erosion, so metagross tries not to be in the ocean very much. instead, they often float above it. droplets aren’t a bother, but they would not appreciate being intentionally splashed, nor would they choose to stand in saltwater if they can help it. freshwater is much easier to handle.
> they’re older than steven, technically. steven guesses metagross was at least a year or two old when he found them as a beldum.
> they speak funny because of the way they process information and how the assimilate a response. although more natural than a computer counterpart, they behave very logically. this is reflected in how they speak.
> meteor mash is one of their favorite skills. very cathartic.
> they enjoy carrying things and people and pokemon alike. they’re kind of jealous of skarmory for stealing some of their thunder in terms of who steven will pick if he needs to fly somewhere. otherwise, metagross doesn’t actually mind being a glorified table/seat.

A friend told me that when a native Japanese comments on your Nihongo speaking by saying きれいな言葉 (kirei na kotoba), it's not really a compliment and is contrary to what the phrase literally means. If this phrase is directed to someone, what's the most polite reaction/action that the person should have/do next?
Hmm. This is a very interesting ask. I wonder if your friend is a Japanese person or a non-native speaker, because it’s not a compliment I’ve heard much. To be honest, receiving praise about my Japanese is a huge pet peeve of mine, so I’d like to delve into this topic a little bit. Let me talk about why they praise us even when all we say is a simple “arigatou,” and then how you can respond to that praise.
Note: You will see me refer to “foreigners” (a.k.a. “Non-Japanese people) as “gaijin” in this article. “Gaijin” (外人) is a truncated version of “gaikokujin” 外国人 (a person from outside of Japan). By removing the middle “koku” (country), we are left with the word gaijin, which literally translates to “outsider.”
Some people see this as an offensive term, and I am one of them. So when I use the word “gaijin,” I do it order to highlight how foreigners are truly viewed as “outsiders” in certain circumstances by certain Japanese people.
Note 2: You are WAY more likely to receive praise if you clearly do not look Japanese. This post is told from my perspective, a girl so white she freaking glows in the dark.
Stereotypes of Gaijin Held by Japanese People
If you go to Japan and try to use Japanese, no matter how fluent or non-fluent you are, you will be complimented on your Nihongo by Japanese strangers. Japanese people are very quick to give compliments even if all you say is a simple “arigatou gozaimasu.” As a people they are polite and complimentary, and they appreciate even small gestures like you taking the time to learn “arigatou” even though you’re a tourist, for example. Some of these compliments are sincere, and other times they say it because even if your Japanese isn’t good, at least you’re trying, and they appreciate the effort.
There are quite a few TV shows in Japan that capitalize on gaijin in Japan, such as “YOU wa nani shi ni Nippon he?” (Why did YOU come to Japan?) in which they scavenge for interesting gaijin at airports and follow them on their trips. (I was once picked up for this show, but when I was like, “Yo I’m just going back home to Hokkaido and starting up work tomorrow,” they were like, “oh, you are not the gaijin image that we want to show Japan” and ditched me lol.)
Basically, most of these shows like to capitalize on a very particular image of gaijin:
They cannot speak Japanese, or at most can only speak broken Japanese, and they certainly can’t read Japanese
They cannot use chopsticks well
They do not like/fully appreciate Japanese food, like raw fish, meat, or eggs
They generally do not understand Japanese customs. (I watched one episode about a hippie dude who was walking around Japan BAREFOOT. BAREFOOT. ENTERING SHOPS AND PLACES WITHOUT SHOES ON, FEET FILTHY. He said, “Japanese people are so nice--no one minds if I come in barefoot.” THEY DO MIND, YOU INGRATE. THEY’RE JUST TOO POLITE TO TELL YOU TO GET THE EFF OUT. Who knows how many Japanese people think that Americans think it’s okay to walk around barefoot now, even though we have “No shoes no shirt no service” signs everywhere for this very purpose!)
Only 3% of the Japanese population is non-Japanese. This means that many, many Japanese people have never met a gaijin in person and base their assumptions of us entirely off the media and the stereotypes proliferated there.
One of the things Japanese people (and most other people in the world, for that matter) mistakenly believe is that Japanese is the hardest language in the world to learn.
Real talk: from an unbiased, purely linguistic standpoint, there is no such thing as a “hard” or “easy” language. There is such a thing as “linguistic distance,” which measures how much one language and another differs. For example, Italian and Spanish share so much grammar and similar vocabulary that their distance is short. Conversely, there is a substantial linguistic distance between Spanish and Korean.
However, a short linguistic distance does not equal “easy to learn.”
Japanese is quite distant from all languages other than Korean. And yeah, kanji’s a bitch. I won’t argue with you there. But from personal experience, as a native English speaker, I found German harder to learn than Japanese, despite German being much linguistically closer to my native language. It all varies from person to person.
But many Japanese people will tell you, “Japanese is so hard, isn’t it? It’s so impressive that you can speak it. It’s the hardest language.” And then their eyeballs drop out of their sockets when you tell them that you can read tHe KaNjI as well.
Many Japanese people are convinced that not only is Japanese the hardest language in the world, but also almost no foreigners are able to speak it. This, coupled with their culture of politeness, leads them to be quick to praise our use of Japanese, no matter how good or bad it is.
And therein lies my pet peeve with quick praise. Just a simple “arigatou gozaimasu” and some Japanese people will fawn over how sugoi your nihongo is, and in my eyes it sort of diminishes the actual level of sugoi my nihongo is. If that makes sense lol. I guess I just wish that people would treat me like a fellow Japanese person instead of a gaijin.
Common Praise
Here are some common phrases you might hear if someone is impressed with your Japanese, listed roughly from most common to least:
日本語がとてもお上手ですね! Nihongo ga totemo ojouzu desu ne! You are very good at Japanese!
日本語ペラペラですね! Nihongo perapera desu ne! You’re fluent in Japanese!
日本人みたいに喋れるじゃん! Nihonjin mitai ni shabereru jan! You can speak just like a Japanese person!
日本人より日本語喋れるじゃん! Nihonjin yori nihongo shabereru jan! You speak Japanese better than Japanese people do!
ナマリがまったくない! Namari ga mattaku nai! You don’t have an accent at all!
発音がきれいです! Hatsuon ga kirei desu! Your pronunciation is beautiful!
綺麗なお言葉です。 Kireina okotoba desu. You speak beautifully.
Y’know, I don’t think I’ve ever heard that last compliment before. To me, it sounds a little...stiff. Like maybe something an employee at a store would say to the customer who is trying to talk to them, and the employee is trying to be polite, but may not be 100% sincere. Sometimes that stiff, formal Japanese hides a person’s true warmth, though, so it’s a bit hard to tell.
How to Respond to Praise
In America, if you are praised, it is common to reply with a “Thank you,” and then you can follow that up with a sign of humility or pride, like “Thank you, but I still have a lot to learn,” or “Thank you, I’ve been studying for a few years now!”
However, in Japan, you do not thank them. Instead, you contradict them. If someone says, “You are very good at Japanese!” you are meant to say “No, I’m not at all.”
This is not only limited to praise regarding Japanese. If someone says your outfit looks cute, you should say something like, “Really? This shirt is so old it’s about to get holes in it.” If someone says you are good at sports you should say, “Oh no, I’m terribly clumsy. Today must be a lucky day.” For example.
If they continue to praise you a second time, deny it again.
If they praise you a third time, then you can say something like, “It’s thanks to you,” or “I’ve had a lot of help to get to this point.” Basically, you make sure that you are not prideful, and you give credit to those around you.
Japanese culture appreciates humility over pride, and puts others before oneself. These two facets of culture greatly shape nearly every social interaction.
Here are some things you can say if someone praises your Japanese:
いえいえ、まだ勉強中です! Ie ie, mada benkyou-chuu desu! No no, I’m still learning!
いえいえ、まだまだです。 Ie ie, mada-mada desu. No no, I still have a long way to go.
いえいえ、そんなことないです。 Ie ie, sonna koto nai desu. No no, not at all.
My favorite is the “benkyou-chuu” one, because I’ll be studying Japanese until the day I die.
As an extra little thing to make you even more natural, when you say the “ie ie,” do this hand motion (and not the facial expression lol):
Tumblr media
This little hand wave in front of the face, with the tip of your middle finger at the same height as the tip of your nose, is a Japanese hand gesture that means...man, how do I put this into words?
“No no, you are thinking too highly of me” or “No no, don’t go to such trouble for me” or “No no, I’m fine, thank you.” It’s a super handy gesture!
HAH, “handy”
Anyways. You can use this gesture when you are declining praise, but you can also use it at a restaurant, for example. Maybe a waitress asks, “Do you want another beer?” And you can give the little hand wave and a smile to mean, “I’m good, thanks.” You can also say “Kekkou desu” as you do the motion.
Hope this post was of use to you!

@monterraverde sent: “Tell me more about your husband?”
Tumblr media
There’s a wide smile that seems to creep upon Wallace’s features, an amused hum leaving him as malachite hues seem to sparkle at the mere thought of his lover & co-champion. Eyes close in thought—where to start…
Tumblr media
“Steven is…an incredible individual with a very big heart—and sometimes a one track mind.” He mused, thinking of which words he should pick out carefully. Which stories to share—there were so many.
“We met as children. Not long after the tragic death of my parents. He was friendly—a curious child with a beldum floating around him while I sat near the water with my feebas at the time…the closer Steven and I had become, the closer our Pokémon had become, and now his Metagross and my darling Milotic, Kireina, have quite the special bond themselves.”
Tumblr media
“I knew I was in love with Steven when we hit our teens. I never hid it—the both of us were always so physically affectionate but Steven can be…a little dense, so to speak. My little pendejo, as I like to call him. He didn’t realize I was doing all of that because I was romantically attracted to him…he thought that it was just how I was. It was until many, many years later that I flat out told him, since he didn’t seem to get the message. And luckily for me, he felt the same way.”
“I absolutely love and adore Steven…he’s sweet and he’s charismatic and he’s very kindhearted. He may be into rocks a little too much—but I can’t complain when his eyes light up the way they do when he discovers something. It’s adorable, really. He makes me…extremely happy. I don’t think I could ever imagine a world without him.”
Tumblr media
“I should introduce you sometime—though I’m afraid if I bring him to Paldea and he sees the terrastilized pokemon, he might not want to leave.”

The apex predator of Ouran
Chapter five
Tw more cannibalism mentions, underage drug use (weed)
He was standing by the food table, enjoying a glass of champagne because there was no one to ask his age there. It was a lovely ball so far; Tamaki had been there for five minutes and he'd already been the subject of a few passing conversations, both his pseudonym and Tamaki himself. It was nice, garnering attention without having to try too hard. He also liked the anonymity of the situation.
"Ladies and gentlemen," another announcement called out, Tamaki barely glanced up but did a double-take when he saw who was standing there, "we are pleased to announce; Kireina Mōkin!" With a name meaning beautiful bird of prey, Tamaki could tell you exactly who it was without having to look. He looked away, excited to see what his best friend would be wearing- and he found himself choking on his drink.
In a black train that hugged his legs and fanned out into crimson silk frills, he wore tight fitting trousers that had beads and thin metal braids hanging from it's belt. On the top he wore a white silk shirt with one of those corsets designed for men that Tamaki had been looking at for theme inspiration, it was black and gold and he wore a black feather boa around his shoulders, with a chainmail shawl attached to it. His mask was black lace with a gold rim and diamonds hanging from it like dripping water. With no glamour on, his beautiful black plumage was on display; his arms were the closest thing he had to wings, with many long feathers adorning them, he had a couple poking out from under his mask and there was a thick ruff of them over his collar bones.
For a moment, Tamaki couldn't breathe. He wasn't sure why but it felt as if the world had suddenly stood still, or at least moved in slow motion as Kyoya made his way down the stairs. As much as he wanted to compliment his friend on his pseudonym and outfit, he decided not to approach Kyoya quite yet… the night was still young after all.
Instead, he decided to interact with the other people at the ball, using his inmate social skills to charm each and every individual he came across. He ended up talking to a young lady who had horse ears and painted hooves, she was rather polite and sweet and Tamaki was sure he knew that voice- of course he did, this was a ball for high society, but there was something specific he noticed. It didn't really matter to him, though, the girl was good company and he found himself enjoying the conversation. He tried one of his classic host tricks on her and she froze, taking a step back.
"Wait, you are human, right?"
He was surprised at that, he wasn't sure why she'd need to ask that. "Yes, why?"
The girl, having introduced herself as 'Sukoshi Bītī', breathed a sigh of relief. "Well mom says we have to make sure we're not talking to any carnivores, I just wanted to be safe." She smiled at him like that was a normal thing to say and Tamaki felt his blood boil.
"I'm sorry to have scared you then, Saori." He said her name the same way Ms Abe had spoken to Kyoya, turning his back on her and making his way across the ballroom. Tamaki usually wouldn't ever abandon a girl during a ball like that but he would not stand for someone to say something that would hurt his Kyoya like that.
Speaking of his devil, Tamaki noticed 'Kireina' talking to a gentleman in a dark red suit, with horse ears and a tail, a light brown mask and a red hat. It was a rather simple suit, and Tamaki could tell it was probably the most expensive thing the boy owned. Kyoya was interacting with the boy, they were engaged in a casual discussion and Tamaki wasn't sure Kyoya realised who the boy was. Then again, Kyoya was smart, and it wasn't really Tamaki's place to speak for him… even if the sight of that cruel young man cracking a joke that made Kyoya chuckle- no matter how politely, made Tamaki's heart hurt for reasons he couldn't quite explain.
Outside of the ballroom, he bumped into what looked like a second lionbird; a shirtless gentleman covered in brown feathers, with black suit pants and a long leather suit jacket slung over his shoulder. He wore a matching leather mask that had rubies around the edge, and there were several chains hanging from his belt. Taking a long drag from what looked like a cigarette but definitely didn't smell like it, the man glanced at Tamaki and smiled. "Hey Souh, you can throw one hell of a party."
"Uh, thank you?" Tamaki paused, unsure how exactly the man knew who he was, "how…-?"
"How do I know who you are?" The man chuckled, dropping his smoke and stamping it out, "you're the only blonde bastard around here, of course I know who you are."
Tamaki frowned, "but Honey-"
"The only blonde bastard above 5 feet." The man rolled his eyes, holding his hand out to Tamaki, "my pseudonym is Kakkoī Tori, what about yours?"
He shook Kakkoī's hand, a little hesitant, "Shiroi Ai, can I ask you a question, Tori-san?"
"Sure," Kakkoī shrugged, "I don't see why not."
"Are you one of Kyoya's brothers?"
Kakkoī Tori froze, looking Tamaki up and down with growing amusement. "You're smarter than you look, Ai. You're right, you're looking at the coolest of the trio; Akito Ootori himself." As if to punctuate the sentence, Akito flexed his arms, grinning like a maniac. Tamaki briefly remembered meeting this one when he visited the Ootori mansion for the first time, he remembered it was alongside Kyoya's other brother, and that Akito had been a lot more formal then. However, he also remembered Kyoya warning him that Akito had 'behavioural issues' so he could be abrasive. Tamaki didn't think he was too loud or anything, it was just out of place for an Ootori to behave like that- he wondered where he got it from.
"I see you're questioning my behaviour." Akito spoke, crossing his arms with a smirk. Tamaki was very alarmed at this point, wondering if lionbird's could read minds. "It's called: pregaming before a social event so your father doesn't force you to interact with people." He said this like it was a miraculous invention, and Tamaki realized it meant that the man was drunk- or at least mildly intoxicated. "How old are you again? 18 right?"
"17," Tamaki corrected him, nervously watching him take a metal box out of his pocket, "why?"
Akito took another of those suspicious cigarettes out of the box, lighting it against his feathers. "Really? I could have sworn you were older than Kyoya," he shrugs, "no matter, do you want some? It's illegal anyway so I doubt your age matters if you've got a responsible adult with you."
"You're drunk," Tamaki answers, eyeing the man hesitantly, "hardly responsible- is that cannabis?"
"Mhm," he nodded in the affirmative, "it's high quality too, shipped in especially for me. I won't tell your dad if you don't tell mine."
Tamaki nodded, slowly taking the blunt and looking at it, "what do I do? Just breathe in?" Akito nodded, watching him closely as Tamaki put it to his lips and breathed in, instantly coughing as the smoke entered his throat. The blunt was taken from him and Akito began rubbing and patting his back gently.
"You're fine, you're fine, it's okay." His reassurances really sounded more like he didn't want to get in trouble but Tamaki didn't mind, he just wanted to get that horrible taste out of his mouth. "You alright there, kid?"
"Ugh, yeah I thin-"
"Why is Souh coughing?" A voice asked from behind them. The both turned around with matching expressions of horror as they both recognised the voice and tone used. Yoshio Ootori stood there, clutching his cane as his slightly straggled feathers glowed bright oranges and reds. He wore a tuxedo without a shirt but with a waistcoat, the slightly greying feathers on his collar bones visible. His mask, despite being completely counterproductive, had his company's logo on the top center, with a black background and gold trim. He wore white gloves, over hands that were currently clutching his cane as he glared at the blunt in his son's hand. "Akito, what is that?"
Sickly shades of yellow and pale orange danced across Akito's feathers as he very quickly burnt the entire thing to ash, bowing his head. "Nothing father, I was just enjoying the night air."
"I don't care if you smoke, Akito, I care if you just offered Souh some." He then turned his attention to Tamaki, sighing, "I'm a doctor, I know that pale face and rapid coughing are common in people who've never tried marijuana before. Souh, please tell me you haven't just tried some of that."
Now, Tamaki wasn't a coward. He was in no way the kind of person to tattle on someone for the hell of it. However… this was Mr Ootori, and Tamaki would be kidding himself if he wasn't terrified of the man. He couldn't bring himself to even speak, he just nodded, hanging his head in shame.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Mr Ootori muttered something to himself before sighing heavily. "Now I don't think you're the kind of young man who's interested in breaking the law, so tell me, Souh; what made you agree to this?"
Tamaki paused, unsure of why he actually agreed; maybe it was because Akito was a little intimidating, but no- that couldn't be it. He couldn't exactly say he was scared of Akito… he looked at Mr Ootori silently, unsure how to answer in a way that would satisfy such an intimidating man.
"Are you nervous about something, Souh?" Mr Ootori asked, his tone surprisingly gentle, "how much did you have? Perhaps you're simply trying to distract yourself."
He just blinked at Mr Ootori slowly, "just… just one… puff? I don't know what it's called but I only breathed in once…" he shut up as soon as possibly could, hands shaking. Tamaki didn't know why this colossus of political and social power was speaking gently, he'd never heard the man talk like this before and it scared him more than a harsh tone. Maybe Mr Ootori was right, however; Tamaki might have been trying to distract himself from what he'd just seen.
Mr Ootori nodded slowly, looking a little relieved. "Alright, thank you for telling me, Tamaki." The use of Tamaki's given name made him even more uneasy, and he wanted to leave as soon as possible- he felt like he was going to cry. "Why don't you go and find your father? I think he was near the champagne when I last saw him, Fiyumi's there anyway and I know you're comfortable with her, so she can help you."
"Thank you, sir." Tamaki quickly bowed, hurrying back inside, glad to have been released. He leant against a wall, trying to catch his breath, his heart hammering in his chest. He could hear Mr Ootori roaring at Akito, although the words weren't as clear as the tone. Tamaki decided it was best he get as far away as possible, taking Mr Ootori's advice to head to the champagne table. To find his own father or to just get another drink, Tamaki hadn't decided yet.
Back at the drinks table, he reached for another glass of champagne, only to get his hand slapped away. “Nope, not for you. You’re too young.” Glancing up, Tamaki met the eyes of someone who could only be Fiyumi; a black wrap dress with diamonds on her earrings, belt and necklace. Her glossy black plumage on full display as she hooked arms with her husband, lifting her shimmering black latex and lace mask to look at Tamaki closer. “So that’s what your outfit looks like, huh. It’s not as garish as I expected, fair play.” She then glanced behind her and Tamaki followed her gaze to see an extremely bright suit.
A red waistcoat with a cream jacket, a matching red mask with some white feathers coming off of one corner. Tamaki’s main concern was the red hearts on the back and cuffs of the jacket, and the cream hearts on the shirt and mask- it looked kind of cluttered and it definitely wasn’t as grand as most of the outfits at this ball. That brown- slightly grey hair was the most disappointing detail, as it told Tamaki exactly who was wearing the suit.
Fiyumi carefully pulled Tamaki to stand in front of that man, “I hate to intrude on your fun, but Tamaki seems like he needs a little adult supervision. Father found him on the verge of embarrassing you, so perhaps just keep an eye on him for a bit.” Tamaki looked up at his father, both of them as displeased at the idea as each other. His father dragged him forward, to stand beside him, murmuring an agreement.
The moment Fiyumi left, Tamaki’s father turned to him and sighed, “what on earth have you been doing, Tamaki? Embarrassing me in front of the Ootori’s? Just because you’re friends with Kyoya doesn’t mean you can forget your manners.”
Tamaki sighed heavily, crossing his arms. “Don’t blame me, it’s not my fault that Kyoya’s brother has no qualms about breaking the law.” He hated it when his father tried to lecture him, it seemed very hypocritical for that kind of person to lecture anyone so Tamaki always felt a sense of disdain when this happened.
His father groaned, looking confused but not questioning it, “just don’t embarrass me, this is a very important social event.”
Wondering if his father had forgotten about who organised the ball, Tamaki left the champagne table, thoroughly annoyed. He put his energy into socialising with the other people at the ball, making sure everyone was comfortable and happy. It was where he excelled; keeping people entertained. He bumped into the twins whilst socialising, their matching suits were incredibly stylish but he was more concerned with the fact that they told him they’d seen Kyoya leave the room with a boy that had horse ears.

@soraozon // ‘It was not too often that the sky beast came down...Not so in the fully form as to be so obvious. And yet when whines were heard from above the clouds and breached the territory of the lord of dragons...They had waited and waited for it to be silenced and yet that serenity never came. So they waited more till the sun had long fallen across the sky, and most fell to slumber, with the exception it seemed...Of still the milotic. Whom yellow eyes now stared, beating into her own eyes... Rayquaza did not speak at first, only twisting around itself, a loop of serpent that climbed across the sky...Before the body of the beast dropped down near the shore, careful not to cause any destruction or noise...How miraculous that something so big could be so quiet. Rayquaza's maw opened slightly, yet the only one that would hear their voice would be the milotic… ' Your whines... They are heard even beyond my reach, what has happened to make one so loud as to disturb a lord such as I? '

Her wails had made it throughout the night; the milotic not resting within the confinements of her pokeball. Though she may have kept some residents awake at night; she cared not for their rest, as her world had been taken from her.
Wallace was her best friend. As a child he had found her as a feebas and welcomed her with open arms. She was always so friendly but denied by most as no one wanted to pay attention to an ‘ugly’ fish. Though Wallace had seen her beauty, and had given her the name Kireina. ( ‘Beautiful’, is what he said it meant ). Serpentine body dipped beneath the depths of the water before coming back up to wail the name of her missing trainer, fuchsia gaze showing how exhausted she truly was as it moved up to see the legendary Pokémon before her.
The last thing she expected was Rayquaza, of all beings, to find her. To approach her; and though normally she would look at them in awe; she did not. She was truly exhausted.

“My trainer has disappeared,” she explained, gaze moving to her tired reflection in the dark sea. “I’m hoping he’ll hear me and come home.”
