Any spideytorch fics where the f4 r like found family
anon I didn't know how to respond to this because the f4 aren't a found family, they're just like a regular family and I thought you wanted fics of Sue and Reed not being married and the kids not existing and Sue and Johnny not being related. But I'm going to assume that's not what you meant and just like family fluff
and like honestly my answer is to read canon because the f4 are really good about showcasing the family aspect of Marvel's first family, especially ff 2011 and anything related to the future foundation. Also Johnny's death comic, it's heartbreaking, but Peter comforting Franklin is just so aaaaaahhh
Anyway fic recs
Minor Injuries by Catlady45. Franklin comes back from space and has to deal with his uncle not being as cool as he remembers and Johnny has to deal with his nephew not being 7 anymore. Franklin is my favorite f4 kid and I like him in this teen angst phase
don't read the comments by hippolytas. This mostly focused on the in-universe rpf and man is it fantastic, it's mostly funny but there is some angst on Johnny's part over it. There are a bunch of fantastic family moments scattered across the fic and the characters feel so close and important to each other
Give Me All Your Lovin' by beforethemoon. This is actually a whole series of one-shots of Johnny and Peter just doing life together. It's really evident that the fantastic family is important to both of them and even though the Parkers have passed, they were clearly important to both of them too. There's unfortunately some irondad in this series but I was able to jump around and still know what was going on
Central Park in June by Traincat. Can't go wrong with this author, I'm sure you've already read it. It's hilarious watching Val and Bentley trying to break up Johnny and Peter because Val in all her baby super genius doesn't want Johnny to get his heart broken again. Johnny and Peter are just such kind and patient uncles
And We'll Never Be Lonely Anymore by Traincat. Two fics by the same author? It's more likely than you think. This is the 2015 fantastic four which is closer to a found family because Johnny is adopted and Sue and Reed aren't married so. But like it's nice to see Peter so close to the origin of the four and also to see May and Johnny get close
golden by call_me_steve and ghostfaeries. Technically none of the four make an appearance in this fic, but the scrapbook shows how important they are with little snapshots of life. It's just really cute and they're t4t!!
Oh, Johnny by damianwayne. This isn't found family for the f4, it's found family for the spider bros! It's so silly and cute and I adore any fic that lets Peter think of the clones as his brothers
Honestly, any spideytorch fic that I've recommended in the past that has any of the other four tagged probably has some degree of family fluff because I eat that shit up

Broken Hearts Football Club | Chapter 28
Previous chapter | Last chapter
Masterlist
Tumblr media
"They are literal scum. Posting this article the morning of our most important game so far? Disgusting" Leah said, leaving her phone on the table and laying on the bed next to June.
"Didn't expect anything less from them" she sighed.
"How are you?"
"Honestly? I don't know. They've published stuff about my relationships before, but…"
"But they've never done it about a relationship you truly care about. One that matters, one that you want, one with someone you love" Leah said.
"Yeah" June sighed again.
They had been caught. Someone had recognized her and Ben on their date at McDonald's, taking photos of them and sending them to the English press. And there was no way they could deny what was going on.
They had photos of them waiting to order, June's arms wrapped around Ben's neck while they kissed and laughed. They had photos of them eating together, smiling at each other. And they had photos of them leaving the restaurant, of Ben squeezing her butt and then hugging her and kissing her. That was couple behaviour, and it was impossible to deny it.
"What has your family said?"
"My dad said that now he understood why I had been looking so happy lately, and my mum that Ben is the most handsome young man she has ever seen and that she is gonna have the most beautiful grandchildren ever."
"No pressure there" Leah chuckled. "So they are ok with your relationship?"
"They are. They said that as long as I am happy, they are happy too."
"What about John?"
"He just worries about me wanting to run away and send to hell the best thing that has happened to me in ages and that isn't related to my career."
"But you aren't running away, are you?"
"The thought crossed my mind when I first saw the article" June said, biting her lip. "But, no, I'm not going anywhere. I… I love Ben. And I'm gonna fight for him. For us."
"Aww, Maxwell!" Leah said, hugging her friend. "You've said it aloud! Finally! I'm so proud of you."
"Yeah, whatever."
"No, this is not whatever, June. This is huge coming from you. This means you've healed, that your heart isn't broken anymore. Though it won't be 100% healed until you tell Chilly how you feel."
"He knows how I feel."
"But you haven't actually told him, have you?"
"Not really, no."
"Then maybe this is the moment to do it, you know? Now that everyone knows about your relationship, this may be the moment to tell him and reassure him that you aren't going anywhere."
"Maybe. But I don't know how to say it."
"It's just three words, Maxwell" Leah laughed.
"Yes, but the three most important words ever."
"I guess… Have you spoken with him yet?"
"We texted earlier after the article was published. He asked me if I was ok and about how my family had taken the news."
"What about his family?"
"His mum was like, oh, this is old news. I've known since I saw her at the hospital."
"She always was a clever woman" Leah chuckled. "Did you talk about anything else? Are you going to publish something on Instagram confirming it?"
"Nah. We agreed that what matters now is tonight's game, that I should focus on that and on showing those idiots who June Maxwell is, that their shit doesn't affect her."
"So you basically agreed on bringing back the June who likes to shut mouths with goals."
"Ben's favourite, yes" June chuckled.
"I like her a lot too. Though not as much as he does. Tough love he called it, right?"
"Yeah" she said, remembering everything that happened since that confession, how she and Ben had gone from not being able to stand the other and constantly arguing to… to being in love with each other and happier than ever.
"You know you have us all by your side right? The whole team" Leah said, taking June's hand in hers.
"I know, Williamson. Thank you" she smiled.
"Great. Then let's go kick some asses" Leah said, getting up from the bed with a quick jump. "I feel bad for those poor Chinese girls but… This is how it works. Are you ready, Maxwell?"
"Yes captain, my captain" June laughed, getting up from the bed and joining her.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
"What an extraordinary game of football" Andrew said.
"Definitely the best we've seen in this tournament so far" Jacob added.
"The way the girls played tonight has been just… Perfection. Look at those stats!"
"And they could have been even better if Sarina hadn't made all those changes after the 5th goal."
"And what a goal that last one was. What do you think, Chilly?" Andrew asked him.
"I think that it probably is the best goal of Lauren's career to the date."
"Agree" Jacob nodded.
"If you watch it since the moment the ball leaves Earp's foot, it just gets better and better."
"And when it gets to Maxwell… That pass was simply brilliant! And the way James controls the ball and kicks… Urgh, I love it."
"Looks like you've fallen in love with a goal, Andrew" Ben chuckled.
"I may have, yes" he laughed.
"Speaking of Maxwell's pass… Didn't it remind you of one of yours, Chilly? The one against United."
"It was similar, but hers is ten times better. She is a much better football player than I ever was or would have ever been" Ben smiled.
"Completely unbiased comment here" Jacob smirked.
"I'm known for always being unbiased when it comes to Maxwell " Ben shrugged before the three of them started to laugh. "Being serious again, tho… I think the character the girls showed today is worthy of respect. People from the outside tried to make them nervous, to make them fail, and they showed them what they are made of. That they are here to play football and win, and no one is gonna distract them from their goal no matter how hard they try."
"Yes! Our fierce lionesses!" Jacob said, lifting his fist in the air.
"We are very proud of you girls" Andrew said.
"All of you" Ben added, looking straight into the camera, hoping everyone back home got the message.
They could publish all the rubbish they wanted. He was sure of his feelings for June and of hers for him even if she hadn't said it just yet. And if there was someone who knew how to fight against people who talked shit, making the best of it, that was June Maxwell.

little mounty and christmas, imagine mason bringing her to the lunch they have had today. it will be very cute
Little Mounty
"Excited for the day little mounty?" Mason has his daughter in his arms as he enters the facility and lets the little one look around, her little eyes lighting up at what the staff have managed to put on especially for the children.
"It's not Christmas"
"I know love, but we're spending that day at grandma and grandpa's. And we boys wanted to celebrate together"
"Why?"
"Because we love each other and that's what friends do"
"There's uncle Ben!" as soon as he opens the door that leads to the lounge they will be staying in for the day, Alice wastes no time in scouting out someone she knows so Mason puts her down. But he doesn't even have time to remind her not to be good that she has already disappeared, leaving him alone with an envelope full of presents in his hand.
"Have you lost her already?" a faint female laugh distracts him from Ben and Alice, and Mason turns slightly to the side giving her a smile.
"Hey, I didn't know you'd be here too"
"Oh no, I just dropped something off"
"But you'll be here? Around I mean...um there's something I want to give you"
"I'll be in my office. Did you give me a present Mount?" her tone is somewhere between surprised and joking and he shrugs innocently.
"Who know"
-
"Alice eat alone you're capable of it" the boys are sitting at the table, Kai and Reece opposite Ben and Mason with little Alice in the middle, who without even saying it is enjoying the attentions of the boy by her side. Well at least this way she hasn't gotten dirty yet.
Some of the other boys also took up the invitation to bring their children along and Mason tried to get Alice to play with someone her own age for a while, but the little girl didn't want to. She had hidden behind his legs and after a few more failed attempts he hadn't felt like pushing her any further.
She was chatty with those she knew and those she trusted, his father would stay hours listening to her babbling on about some cartoon or princess whose name he didn't even know. Yet he had noticed that she had more problem relating to children her age and had often wondered lately if he could do something more.
She has a small crown made of tissue paper on her head and smiles surrounded by the attention of his friends and for the moment, for today, that's fine he decides. No more worrying.
"Do you know today is not Christmas?" she asks holding her fork to Kai sitting opposite her.
"Yes"
"So why did Santa bring presents?"
"He probably didn't"
"What?" Mason exchanges an alarmed look with Ben jumping in before the situation gets out of hand irreparably. His daughter is too young to ruin the idea of Christmas at the moment thanks.
"What Kai meant - he casts a quick glance at the boy in question, who smiles apologetically - is that Santa will bring the presents home. Today's are from the people who love you. Isn't that right Kai?"
"Y-yeah" the boy murmurs, giving her the best smile he can under his father's intimidating gaze, hoping that everything is sorted out.
"Hey Alice, do you want to open another christmas crackers?"
"Yes!"
"Keep eating, don't forget" Mason sighs relieved, lightly stroking her back before stopping to look at her.
-
Alice had gone to bring her present to Kepa, she had wanted to make everyone drawings and to make them a little more special Mason had helped her choose frames to put them in. After eating she had taken the opportunity to hand them out and then everyone had spread out a bit around the room and to his delight the little girl had stayed there with the boy even when another child had approached. He had then relaxed for a moment in his seat, allowing himself to chat with his friends.
"She is a special kid"
"See these, these are the tears she made me shed to make all these drawings" Mason jokes pointing at Ben's drawing making him laugh. But in the end he can't help but agree with him remembering his special and personal one already hanging at home that she had given him that very morning.
"Looks like you've had your hands full these days" Cesar joined the group shortly before.
"Believe me. Every spare minute was for these drawings, I had to watch her and she would get so upset if I didn't give her attention"
"She looks just like her father to me"
His gaze falls to the phone screen that lights up for a notification, but more like looking at the time. "Hey would you take a look at Alice for me? I'll be right back"
He takes his jacket from the chair as soon as nods come from his friends and touches the inside pocket of this one satisfied with what he feels at the touch. He still has one last gift to give.
He knocks on your door once he arrives, it's open but still he doesn't want to intrude if you're doing something important.
"Hey Mason, come on in. How's the party going?"
"Good, I brought you this" the boy extends a white napkin laying it on her desk catching her attention.
"A biscuit! Thank you" she immediately bites into it, closing her eyes at the sweetness. While Mason simply stands there looking at her.
"And uhm this" he hands her another envelope but for this one he waits for her to take it.
"Mason, did you really get me a present?"
"It's just... it's nothing" he stammers, while she has already opened the envelope and taken the card.
"A croissant?"
"You know when you shared your breakfast with Alice last time. I thought I owed you one and, I mean maybe we could... have breakfast together one of these days?" the idea had come to him when he'd realised that picking up the phone again and getting caught wouldn't be a good thing to do. So he'd started drawing, annoying his daughter more than anything, until the light bulb had gone on and he'd stood next to her colouring.
"Oh that's... that's a great idea. I'd love to. Yeah, I'm in"
"Great" he smiles just like her and doesn't know what else to add, without risking making a fool of himself and risking the meeting. So he claps his hands closed into fists between them. "Great. Uhm I should go now"
"Yeah, okay"
"Merry Christmas (y/n)"
"Merry Christmas Mason"

few more Musings on Possibilities working off of the premise that winston's dick energy is related to the [psych (lol.) this is Wendy's new therapist, really] subplot:
just that ofc maybe he doesn't quit before/at the start of the episode. that would just be a hypothetical way for higher ups to realize this therapist (is modern psychoanalysis inherently a therapeutic practice? i think so. ugh grimacing sighing at looking up the theory / origins of any psychiatric practice but lord when isn't that the case. automatically i want more for winston, for anyone, than even a theoretically good fit psychiatrist) exists. since this hinges on anyone considering his quitting enough of a disruptive problem somehow to be motivating, versus maybe a comedic "btw anyone seen winston like, this week, now that i think about it" "[unsure murmurings]" moment about it.
maybe ppl are bothering to interact with just him outside the office, that we get to see, b/c of some different avenue of singling out: like that i do figure if winston wanted to see a therapist he would not go to wendy / not consider going to her, so after twisting anyone else's arm about where all this coordination amongst employees to Hurt Wendy's Ego came from, it's quickly like, oh yeah it was winston who started it, he recommends it to his friend with so many problems tuk, or ben, or some such deal. then everyone goes off to twist winston's arm about it too, asap, nigh literally
maybe it's about figuring this is some nefarious plan of winston's; wags being a good friend to wendy by killing all nerds who won't accept her performance coaching(tm). and/or about wresting info about this nefarious rival therapist from him as the expert (seeing her first / the longest), or him as A person seeing her who they most feel like grilling for information like hey nobody wants to accidentally make ben cry again but if winston cries b/c you were assaulting him then who cares, go see your fancy new therapist about how you're a total pussy. maybe wags just can't stand winston possibly having the choice to give them info, or even to take his time in doing so, basically being the "sure some ppl don't like getting their hands dirty. some babies don't have the stomach for it. but torture works! & i'm just the loose cannon committed to The Goals to stop waffling around about it" cliche, &/or is Disproving any approach that might treat winston like a person like no, treating him like a nonperson is the way, how can we stand otherwise? meanwhile the secret edge this person has is the basic obvious shit in contrast to even wendy's non special occasion therapy(? performance coaching) tactics are still just "i want to hurt you as much as i possibly can" & how just like her official job goals are wringing as much from employees as possible & making sure the company can steamroll them in any matter if convenient, a lot of which entails supporting the egos & enabling the behaviors of the employees who shit on everyone else. and here's dollar bill, wags. rian, "wendy's people" from the start....herself. axe. prince on occasion
maybe there's absolutely no especial reason for going after winston except that the audience gets the setup that assaults are no stakes & entertaining if it's winston who's targeted, so we won't be asking for further explanation lol literally do not care. little a treat for him, in his maybe last episode for maybe no especial reason, to maybe see him attacked thusly in his own home, that doesn't look like a particularly characterized setting. if that's even where he is
antibonus points if the cool new therapist shit talks winston still lmao like even if to basically Also pull a wendy like "ohh some ppl are just sooo complex & interesting (as though axe doesn't run on one line of code abt continuously feeding his ego & everyone/everything being fodder for that b/c that's the only way he can view anything & his potential interactions with them. b/c all that there is is Feeding His Ego)" where she'll dismiss all those other peons she treats like heh heh yes whatever Them, open & shut bunch of losers but i'm still nice to them b/c that's my brand of professionalism. but, wendy! You! you're Extraordinary! in fact i'll drop them all to take you on, as further incentive / b/c you'd be the one standout worthy case :)
bonus points is, supposing winston quits After being graced with whatever treatment in the episode & after being given fucked up input like that maybe he hinges his self esteem too much on what this job or anyone or anything associated with it seems to validate. but that maybe it's also about the treatment he's gotten repeatedly, the whole time, & he gets to say anything about it, & nobody gets to just tell him to shut up / pwn him so that in establishing him as the loser/inferior, nothing he says matters

I've had the biggest fan crush on Ben Barnes since Prince Caspian was released. Watching Shadow and Bones brought that back. So this turn of events is very upsetting.
Racism is not okay. Supporting it isn't okay. Enabling it isn't okay. And yeah, it can be very hard to cut people out of your life, especially when you've known them for so long.
I had to cut off one of my best friends growing up. We were friends for 10+ years. (Or maybe I didn't see it because I was a naive child) But she started dating (and is now married to) a racist asshole.
It's hard, but not impossible. The fact that he stayed friends with her after the black face incident says a lot. I would be mortified if someone I know did something like that. And I'd cut them off completely. There's no excuse or defense for being racist.
So either he's a racist too, or a coward. Both of which completely shatter the heart of my 13 year old self who absolutely adored him.
I can totally relate, recently I found again this friend I used to have up until middle school when my family move countries, and we used to be so so close, like those friends you see in coming of age movies, we were inseparable so seeing her again, I was overjoyed. We met for coffee the next weekend and got talking and she started just... saying the most republican, colorist, nasty nazi shit and I just sat there, completely dumbstruck that she could not only think those things but also just talk about them so casually expecting me to agree! Anyway, you know what I did after I left that cafe? I blocked her. Everywhere, even on whatsapp, even her number. I ghosted her and I don't regret it, because you cannot give them any kind of space or time or tolerance because if you let them speak or act the way they do, they think you agree with them.
Sorry if this is messy, it's past one am here but I think I made my point, if you have racist people in your life you are at the very least a racist enabler.

Whos there for Farah? Saul is always even when he was dying he tried to keep her calm. I love Farah too but she is not infallible in every situation!! I get this blog is a Farah stan blog but just wanted to provide another perspective! Ben has probably helped her a lot too.
That's the interesting thing about it, I think. Because yes, of course Farah isn't alone, she has Ben and Saul, even when Saul is on death's door. He is and always will be there for Farah to his dying breath. And Ben as well is a wonderful friend and support for her. But just because we the audience recognize and accept that doesn't mean Farah does. She knows for sure that Ben and Saul are there for her and will always be there for her. But Farah is selfless to a fault, meaning she does and always will put others before herself. So she does have Saul, and she does have Ben, but in those times of crisis and vulnerability, she isn't necessarily going to turn to them because she doesn't want to burden them. Because it's one thing to recognize that you're not alone, but it's another to accept it when you don't feel like you deserve it, or that leaning on someone else will negatively impact them for your own "selfish" needs. I 100% think this is how Farah thinks.
And absolutely she's not infallible! If Aster Dell wasn't enough of an example of that -just because she didn't know she was committing mass murder doesn't erase that she did it- Farah's entire dealing with Bloom and her past was incredibly flawed too, and I think s1 actually did a decent job touching on that. Because yeah, Bloom shouldn't have released Rosalind behind Farah's back, but from Bloom's perspective, she had no reason to think Farah would keep her promise to find answers about her past because at every opportunity to tell the truth, Farah chose to lie and keep Bloom in the dark. Farah's biggest flaw is keeping her cards close to her chest because at some point it becomes such second nature she almost can't control when she should and should not share information, so she doesn't share anything because she's sure she can handle it on her own. Should she have told Bloom immediately upon finding her that she was a changeling? In my opinion, no, because she's right in saying that would've been a lot for Bloom to take in. But she should have told her when she arrived at Alfea, just as I also think she should have given Bloom one-on-one magic lessons so she didn't have to figure it out on her own. Should she also have told Saul she was going after Bloom and the burned one in the first episode? Hell yeah, but in Farah's mind, there wasn't time.
But that's why I love her, because she's not infallible and has so much potential to grow as a character whether in canon or fanon, or both! I relate to a lot of Farah as a character and I 100% project some of myself into my characterization when I write her, so how she approaches relationships is a lot like how I approach them. She never wants to burden someone with her issues, she'd rather face them alone even if it means she gets hurt. And she'd never want to assume they would be there for her (even if they would be no questions asked) because she wouldn't ever want to assume she's taking them for granted or taking advantage. Because on top of Farah not being infallible, she knows she's not infallible. Farah is not "I have done nothing wrong, ever, in my life" about herself. She's been beating herself up about Aster Dell for 16 years. She can't even say it when she's talking with Luna, who knows about it. Farah knows she's flawed and definitely internalizes it not only because she probably learned it from Rosalind, but she's a good person, and I have always believed, personally, that the difference between a good person and a bad person is a good person recognizes that they have done something bad, but will never acknowledge that they do mostly good. A bad person will never accept they've done something bad, but always expect validation for doing something good. Farah is a good person who can see nothing but her own faults and honestly creates most of her own issues because she doesn't communicate properly.
If there's one thing I definitely agree with from the prequel book, it's that Farah feels separate from others. And that is the crux of a lot of her character flaws because she doesn't share her thoughts, she doesn't keep people in the loop, she doesn't share how she feels, she doesn't share her plans, and she puts up walls. And if someone can't climb those walls to reach her, well then that's her fault because she's not "worth it." If you push people away before they can push back, you save yourself the hurt.
This is absolutely a Farah stan blog because I watched Fate for Rob and stayed for Eve ❤️ and I want to give Farah a great big hug because she deserves it. But I also want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her silly because she just needs to communicate with the people that care about her. Seriously so much of the drama in s1 could've been avoided if Farah hadn't insisted in keeping the students in the dark, and then lying about it when they confronted her with the truth. I love Farah, but she is not infallible, and honestly that's why I love her.

Director's Cut on the part where Lila reflects on her relationship with Diego and that Speed reference after the night he gets drunk and stumbles in their cabin in White Horses!
Oh, White Horses my beloved! I still have such a soft spot for that fic, all the pining + holiday vibes! It was so much fun to write.
I’m just going to go through that bit paragraph by paragraph ;-)
-
The ship docks at Charlotte Amalie harbour and Lila disembarks with Diego, who at this point has revived markedly. He is still a little grumpy, but she is certain that's just him and not the hangover. On their way out they took one of the offered maps of the island to find their way around. It helps them find the aquarium and when they get there Ina and Henry are already waiting for them at the entrance. [I did a bunch of research on what the cruise they are taking might entail. I don’t remember them all, but if I wrote Charlotte Amalie has an aquarium then it has an aquarium XD Made my longing for a beach holiday that much worse in spring of 2021]
Lila grabs Diego's hand before they get to them and this time around he seems less surprised by the gesture and doesn't startle. She hates how comfortable it feels. [By which of course I mean she loves it but she can’t admi that to herself XP]
They wander around the aquarium for a while looking at the wonderfully colourful fish and plant life. At one point Ina threads her arm through Diego's and announces to Lila that she'll be stealing her husband for a bit and pulls him over to a large tank with all sorts of pretty fish to show him a little octopus scuttling across the sandy floor. [I looked up the types of octopus they have there and they do indeed have the little fellas with the skirt like demeanor and short little tentacles, the ones that look like pixar characters] Diego seems genuinely fascinated and the soft way he looks at Ina while she relates the info she got off the plaque to him, makes warmth settle in Lila's chest. [Diego here being reminded of his mommy... He is best boy]
Henry, who she had almost forgotten about, gently says next to her, “It's something, isn't it?”
She just about stops herself from startling and slowly turns to him, “What's that?”
“To love someone so much that just seeing them happy means the world to you,” he elaborates. [Even a near stranger can see that Lila loves Diego. My girl is super obvious about her feelings and Diego is being an idiot in this fic. And also Diego is being super obvious and Lila is being an idiot in this fic. It’s my favourite trope: “the love is requited, they’re just idiots” slow burn]
Lila looks back at where Ina is laughing a little at Diego's concentrated expression while he's very lightly tapping the tank where the little octopus has stuck one of it's arms up against the glass. [The Kraken making friends with the little creature. I just thought the idea of big strong fighty man being taken in by little squishy thing would be cute. I stand by it. I very deliberately went with little octopus because they are adorable, and I wanted the reference to The Kraken, and I wanted the reference to Ben.]
“Yeah,” she breathes out a little sadly.
Every time she tries to make peace with her feelings for Diego, she remembers that all there is between them at the moment is a co-operative truce. He's still clearly bitter about her betrayal, and she doesn't know if and how she can earn his forgiveness. [literally just tell him how you feel, Lila DX You don’t know this idiot very long but he’d forgive you instantly and his bark is so much worse than his bite. He means none of this. But yeah, it was actually not that easy to come up with feasible reasons why these two don’t just jump each other. S3 had to take Lila to a different location for half the episodes, because otherwise they will immediately start making out.] And even if she can, she has no idea if he would even feel the same about her as she feels about him. Yeah, they had a thing back in the sixties, but that was months ago. And what was the line in that dumb movie with the runaway bus? Relationships based on intense experiences never work. [I think this may even have been in reference to this fic that I really liked in which it’s suggested that Lila spent a lot of time watching films as a kid. I took that idea and used it in this fic as it being Lila’s main source of understanding of human nature and especially interpersonal relationships. I just assume Lila must have been really lonely as a child.]
Lila is pulled out of her morose musings when Diego turns around and waves her over. “Hey Lila, come have a look at this little guy,” he says, and in his delight he looks and sounds younger than she has ever seen him. [imagine David Castañeda without the beard XD. I’m joking, Diego looks like S3 Diego in this fic cause I clocked DC’s makeover early in his insta posts XD. Anyway, Diego sees something neat, he wants to share it with his girl. It’s how it goes!]
She makes her way over and Ina and Diego leave a little gap for her to come right up to the glass. [Oh no! How unfortunate! Now Lila is squeezed in next to Diego, oh how could that happen? XP]
Lila looks at the small creature with its white and pink body, floating elegantly around in the tank and occasionally slapping its suckers against the glass to hold on close to them, almost as if it were inspecting them right back. [Okay, maybe I went off on the adorable little octopus a bit too much, but this is my fic, the self indulgence is, make sure my dear readers are aware at all times that Diego and Lila are both insanely hot and can barely contain their lust for each other. Also, octopusses are cuuuuute and I need all the readers to know this!]
She sees why Diego is so fascinated by it and looks up at him to say something to that effect, but he's not looking at the animal anymore, instead he's looking at her with a completely unreadable expression and it absolutely throws her. [And by “unreadable” I of course mean “telegraphing to anyone in a 50m radius that he loves her more than words can say, only Lila is to dumb and to scared to actually see that. “Unreadable” my ass... think Diego in the barn when Lila says, “you don’t know me” and he says “don’t I”. You need to picture that level of dopily in love!]
Lila feels almost exposed under his intense gaze and to deflect she quips, “This your family then, Kraken?” [Yeah, I was hemming and hawing about whether she should make a joke about his betentacled brother here, but I didn’t know how to get that one in smoothly, so I went with kraken a joke about his hero name (see what I did there?)]
Diego smirks at that and turns back to look into the tank. Lila feels relief and regret in equal measure at the way that breaks the tension between them. [Cause turns out she might not quite let herself understand yet why, but she wants him to look at her like that all the time forever never stop please go on. It’s because he looks Like That™. Meanwhile Diego is like, oh god she’s so funny and cool, I neeeeed her!]

While I don't disagree with all the analogies regarding Peter’s parents, Bendis wasn't the first writer to try to make them "special". I don't remember exactly which year or issue it was, but the 616 comics made them CIA agents. And everyone hated that. Then, Chip Zdarsky canonized the fact that he had a secret CIA agent sister all along, which is a either you love it or hate it thing. Which I personally hate. I also hate the clone saga but that's beside the point.
I just hate when they're trying to make Peter’s parents special, they don't need to be special, he doesn't need this many ass-pulls to give him random family members when Ben and May (especially May) are fine; and/or give him a found family thing with all his friends that he made. It's a personal gripe of mine when writers act like blood-related family members are more important than all the people that aren't, but deeply care about him anyway. Hell, it's always an absolute delight when one of his villains switch sides and become his buddies. That's way more compelling than this bullshit.
I read 616 Spider-Man so I have been familiar with the backstory of Peter having secret agent parents there (and the secret agent long-lost sister lol) and the controversy around it for like, two decades lol, but I think Jack Elving's point isn't that Peter having special parents hasn't been done before, but that USM placed far more emphasis on it as a special legacy and Peter inheriting special things from it like a fairy tale foundling than the 616 comics did - like, in 616, Peter invents the web fluid and web shooters himself while in USM, the web fluid was an invention of his super scientist father's, and similarly, where the symbiote comes from an alien machine during the Secret Wars, in USM, he inherits it from his father (Eddie Jr. even explicitly calls it 'our inheritance'); so compared to 616!Peter, who is more of a self-made man whose heroic lineage ultimately doesn't impart him with special advantages (and when it does sometimes, people don't really like those stories, and you end up with like, dead robot parents lol), USM!Peter does place more emphasis on the specialness and heroic inheritance.
And yeah, I agree! That was one of my biggest problems with the TASM films putting so much emphasis on Peter's biological parents as a core story, and yeah, we get that great speech from Aunt May in TASM2 where she says that Peter is her boy and she was the one who raised him and he agrees - but there shouldn't have been so much emphasis on them in the first place! It was just a really unnecessary plot that went on for two movies and muddled up a lot of other things while going nowhere, and even if TASM3 never happened, I can't believe they were originally going to have Peter be reunited with his not-actually-dead father while he was visiting Gwen's grave near the end, as if that wouldn't have stomped all over that Aunt May scene; and yeah, Peter's relationship with his aunt and friends has always been more compelling that whatever you can make up about his parents, and the USM comics at least have a great supporting cast, whereas TASM only had Gwen, Harry, and Flash, but Flash is barely there in TASM2 and the film ends with Gwen dead and Harry being unrepentantly evil, so idk what they were going to do there for TASM3 when they had cut MJ from TASM2 and I think introducing her in the third film after everyone else is already gone would have been a mistake.

Ok, first question about Luckyboy!AU, Rook has a girlfriend? As far as I know in cannon he doesn't even have a love interest? thought that might be my fault since it's been years since I've watched any Ben 10 series (really have to rewatch some eppisodes here :P) Who is she and what is she like? Has Rook ever taken her girlfriend in a date to the coffee shop? How much of a tease is Ben with Rook when he isn't on a date? And how much of a wingman is he when he is in one?
How is Ben's social life outside his Nekomata persona by the way? I imagine he still has some friends since he's a charismatic extrovert, but with how different everything is here compared to the prime timeline, I can't see who he might be friends with besides Julie.
Now, let's make some questions that aren't about Ben :D With the amount of invasions that Earth has had over the years is the general public privy of the existence of aliens as something more than just tourists that one almost never sees, or do they know but only aknowledge it when they see an alien in person? How is the general people view of aliens regardless?
Also, does Gwen 10 have good or bad public relations? Like, does Will Harangue berate her and turn the public against her, or is she lucky enough that he's focused on Nekomata and not her? How do the humans see her, as a hero, a child soldier, a menace, a necessary evil?
Also also, how do the Plumbers play in the whole PR thing? Do they manipulate everything so the humans have the view they think is the healthiest between humans and aliens? Do they only play damage control whenever alien activity is reported to the public? Are they known or are they still an underground organization? How does the public view them as, considering they're basically intergalactic police that aren't the most competent, specially considering that some countries have beef with their own police forces?
Now, to leave all of the political and heavy talk behind, how often does Ben play with Ship and Julie? Like, they're friends, obviously Ben gets petting privilegies and becomes a pet sitter whenever Julie has to go on a tournament and can't take care of them herself. PET SHENANNIGANS MUST ENSUE THERE, AND YOU CAN'T CONVINSE ME OTHERWISE XD
Also, I imagine a scenario where Kevin and Gwen enter the coffee shop unaware that the other is in there and Ben does everything in his power to force them to sit on the same table, reminding both of them that this is a true neutral zone and "Please don't break anything here and remember to play nice, if you manage to get through this without punching eachother I'll give you a discount on your next coffee", which is a very good offer if they think about it. Meanwhile Argit is waiting at the bar watching over the situation "Bet you 10 bucks they'll be shouting over eachother in 5 minutes" "Bet you it takes them 10 minutes"... It takes them 7 and a half minutes exactly and they can't decide who wins the bet. "There's no way they're getting out of this hating eachother any less" "As long as they don't break anything and don't bother the other clients, I count it as a win"
So Rook had an established relationship in Omniverse with Rayonna, she was introduced abit later in the series when Ben and Rook with to Revonnah. It was a very 2D relationship, just put there maybe cause of the whole shipping fiasco between Ben and Rook(?) don't take my word for it ;;
For the Lucky Boy! AU, they're together, but it's been years since Rooks been to Revonnah, crime never takes a break, neither does he. So his relationship with Rayonna is very flakey, they're on the verge of breaking up, buuut due to Revonnahgander traditions, they're together still. (pulling this out of my ass ;; )
Rook ends up mentioning he has a girlfriend at some point, it was just a casual thing, Ben won't bring up the topic because the way Rook talks about Rayonna makes him feel a little bit iffy towards the subject.
Outside of work and the Nekomata persona Ben's a little awkward in the social circumstances. At that point his social battery's almost completely clocked out. So unless he's dragged out by his friends, Julie, his old soccer mates - although it's happening a lot less now, since school finished a while ago and they're moving on with their own lives- (i refuse to call it football), Alan, if they both end up clocking out at the same time. OR, Rook. Sometimes Max if he's around will invite Ben for lunch or an afternoon snack run. (Mr smoothies, with a "healthy" dose of chillie fries. Best way to lure Ben out.)
Hell yeah, let's get down to the world building buisness, my favourite cup of tea.
Humans are very knowledgeable about alien existence, you'd have to be pretty ignorant to not believe in aliens. (I mean, lets face it, in the world we live in today, I bet, that if aliens did show themselves, some group would just say they're government actors, or russian/chinese spies. Comical, but sadly a realistic scenario...)
With the amount of invasions that have happened, and the daily attacks- normally done by humans with access to alien tech- Humans are quite fearful of them. Which has urged the plumbers to keep the aliens that live on earth down underTown.
It's not all humans of course, just most. Media influence has also pushed the feardar way up.
Will Harangue, surprisingly uplifts Gwen 10 to the eyes of the public, he's also much more focused on Nekomata. (bad news= views= good news). In Harangues personal opinion though, he'd prefer no aliens at all. So he does let his badmouthing of Gwen slip sometimes.
They do a lot of damage control, their original goal was to keep alien life hidden from the public until they(the people) were deemed ready, however, not so easy when an invasion happens nearly once a month. At least it's all limited to Bellwood. For now...
The plumbers are known to the public but aren't like your typical police force- you can't just call them. But they're always around on patrol. The police aren't exactly fond of them cause "They're terking our jerbs". But they have a joint thing going on, the police handle the human crimes, unless alien tech is involved, and the plumbers handle the alien crimes.
The public views them as an iffy subject, not exactly hailed as heroes, but more of a neutral, they're here to stay I guess, kinda thing. The focus is on Gwen mostly, as the poster child(adult) of the plumbers. (this is where I really wanna separate reality and fantasy, cause like, the issues with the police at the moment is major sooo, eh, it's a touchy subject matter)
Yes to this one. When Julie's away Ben and Ship play. Ben and Julie don't meet up often, work and the vigilante life make Ben way too busy, buuut when they do meet up Julie will pop by Bens apartment - Ben makes sure nothing incriminating is around if that's the case - , or they'll hang out at the dog park, and watch the dogs go ballistic around Ship.
For the pet scenarios, visualize them to your hearts content. I got some cats laying around for my reference... even though they mostly sleep- lazy bastards.
Yes to this too! Argit and Ben would totally make bets- Ben being an anodite can sense Kevin and Gwens emotions and when they're gonna break out into a fight- So he always wins the bets. Argit has learned to not bet too high when it comes to that- if he actually forks up in the first place- .
In the case Kevin and Gwen had broken out into a fist fight, Kevin obsorbing the marble counter, Gwen turning into fourarms. Ben nearly broke his cover trying to prevent any fights, until a coworker had stepped in and promptly kicked them both out. (maybe I'll design some coworkers)
Now to get me some mint tea, cause my fingers are about to freeze off ;;

📌  💕  🏳‍🌈  💎  -For DEH
from this hyperfixation/interests ask game!
📌 how did you find your hyperfixation? I got into it through my friends; we all liked hamilton and I had heard good things about DEH from them, so I ended up giving it a shot and liked it almost immediately!
💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them! ehehehehe well you asked for it anon. as you likely know by now, sir jared kleinman is my absolute favorite DEH character. aside from the fact that he's just fucking HILARIOUS, he's easily the most relatable character in the whole thing, and our personalities are incredibly similar
🏳‍🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you? I don't have any headcanons that I'm specifically attached to, but I am a fan of she/they zoe and she/they alana. also, jared probably has undiagnosed ADHD because I probably have undiagnosed ADHD and I enjoy projecting onto that poor boy. also this really isn't a headcanon because he's canonically mspec but bi connor??? yes yes yes. also kind of irrelevant and I've said this before but jared most definitely has a cat with a dumb name thank you
💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share? OH HO HO I have SO much I would love to share. I got carried away though so lemme put it under a cut
okay here we go besties:
connor murphy's original name was dennis morse and the working title for DEH was The Dennis Project (and zoe's name was becca)
there's a pitch perfect DVD behind evan hansen's pillow in his lil bed shelves because,,, ben platt
the laptop used in the opening scene is fake and has a bunch of LED lights to illuminate evan's face, but the laptop for sincerely me can be typed on! sky lakota lynch says he liked to fuck around with it to make andrew barth feldman break
jared's line "wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles" is a reference to fiddler on the roof; steven levenson says it's "easy to imagine that jared kleinman is a connoisseur of classical music theater"
so big, so small used to be a songless scene of evan and heidi eating ice cream on the couch together before pasek and paul went "wait, shit, this needs a song"
I read somewhere that ben platt was originally considered for the role of jared kleinman but idk if it was true because I can't find the source
connor was intentionally dressed in all dark gray and not black, in order to keep him from feeling too unapproachable
a few of will roland's actual clothes were used for jared's costumes
connor used to just straight up disappear after his death; after rehearsals started, the show's writers started to develop his character and gave him more scenes after his death
the ICONIC line "kinky" was one of the last changes made to the show, and is one of steven levenson's favorite pieces of writing in the script. the line used to be "lame", which can be heard in audio recordings from early previews
I'm sure a lot of us know this already but in the deh movie, the school band plays instrumentals of good for you and anybody have a map
I'm sure there's lots more but I can't think of anything else. sorry I kinda wents nuts LMAO hope you enjoyed <3
oh yeah! trivia sources are this book and this video

Will Lucy be making an apperance like why wouldn't they think of their cousin in law when creating a super hero team
Tumblr media
Adding these together so I can just make one post on 'things I am just changing about this episode'.
So like. In Canon.... Honestly I can't remember if this got mentioned or retconned but I am spelunking through the wiki. The groom in the episode is named Joel Tennyson, and he does have parents, all of whom share the same last name so I assume Joel's dad is Max's brother.
But yeah I'm changing it to where they're not actually related?
Joel is not related to Max in any way. But he was like. The youngest and newest member of the Plumbers before the group disbanded. Max, being one of the veteran members of the team, took Joel under his wing when he joined and Joel does consider him an uncle despite not being related.
Though there have been hostile Lenopans before that Plumbers had to fight, it wasn't big enough for a whole war because Joel and Camille had to meet somehow so there's no suspicion on any of them. More like 'a few extremists on the planet wanted to invade but they're probably not a threat anymore, right?"
Joel naturally invites most of the remaining Plumbers to the wedding as old friends. Which gets the attention of Camille's family who did not approve of her marrying a Human because they're part of the group that wants to invade, but are now like 'hey.... a bunch of Plumbers in one place.... if something were to happen, that would trash Earth's defenses'. So they play nice long enough.
Of course during the ceremony everything goes to shit. But our Humans aren't entirely defenseless despite not expecting an attack! So they fight back.
Camille, horrified by her family's actions, firmly drops them to fight on the Human side. Much to her parent's displeasure.
The rest of the family is arrested once the fight is over. Ofc. Camille is terrified of what will happen to her, but she is cleared of involvement and the wedding does happen.
Now Lucy!
Lucy is Camille's younger cousin and wasn't supposed to be there, but it would be sus if her family didn't bring her for such a big event. She was supposed to stay hidden during the fight but didn't. And was very confused because no one told her the real plan. She tried to do the very innocent kid 'why is everyone fighting???' thing but someone dragged her out of the crossfire so she didn't get hurt.
Her parents are also arrested for the whole fuckery. Camille is her only adult bio relative who isn't arrested, so she gets custody.
This sticks into the AF/UA era that Corner 10 is now in. Camille is still Lucy's guardian, both living on Earth with Joel, while the rest of the family is in some kind of space jail. Lucy is aware of the whole situation, but does kiiiiinda see Camille and Joel as her parents because they have been for the past five years.
In 'Answer the Call', Roxane mentions that she called in remaining Plumbers for a mission, and they have since gone missing. Joel was among the group.
She also included his file in the ones she gave to Untitled Alien Team. Eventually they'll get around to visiting Camille and Lucy, and seeing if they want to offer help. Camille isn't much of a fighter, but Lucy will be on board for being part of the Team.
I do need to hammer out details on this, along with more of Lucy's personality. Plus, other than meeting at the wedding, Ben and Gwen don't have any history with her. (they did in Canon, but here they didn't see her after the wedding.)

So a couple of months ago, I saw a YouTube video that was an audio recording of season 5, episode 6 of Bojack Horseman, “Free Churro.” In the episode, the main character, Bojack Horseman, spends 20 minutes giving a eulogy at his mother’s funeral. There’s one big problem though, his mother was an abusive bitch. His eulogy is him trying to contemplate what she meant by her drying words, “I see you,” and whether or not she loved him. As someone who has a dead parent who was abusive, this is probably my favorite episode of any show ever for how much it helped me understand my feelings. The comments section is filled with people sharing their pain with their abusive families, but one comment stood out to me above all the others by how raw and relatable it was. This comment was by a YouTuber named Moonstruck. At the bottom of this post is a link to her channel. Please support her. After reading this, she deserves a million subscribers. Also please watch Bojack Horseman. (I corrected some of the grammatical errors to make it easier to read)
Disclaimer: Child abuse, bullying, trauma, and mental health:
Moonstruck:
This is a great monologue, but one part of it, in particular, really caught my attention was the 'grand gesture' bit.
When I was a kid, I read this book called "Chicken Soup for the Soul." There's a shitload of them. I don't remember which particular one it was. I hated the whole series because it's just someone profiting off a bunch of other people's stories rather than trying to write their own, in my opinion.
Anyway.
This one story that I remember, the ONLY one I remembered,  was sent in by a little girl. She wrote about how her father never told her that he loved her. He never once, in her whole life, said the words "I love you." I don't remember her mom being mentioned, maybe she was dead; it doesn't matter. The point is her dad was basically an emotionless asshole. Well, one day, this girl gets sick. Really sick. Possibly on her deathbed sick. She wrote that one day she woke up to find a necklace sitting on her nightstand that had a pendant that looked like her dog. She said she held it to her heart and cried because that necklace said all the things her father never had.
I thought, "What a load of bullshit."
A cheap trinket doesn't make up for years and years of emotional neglect. Anyone can buy a thing and toss it your way. Hell, he didn't even hand it to her himself, just left it there for her to find if/when she woke up, then left her alone again to possibly die.
A lot of people say that actions speak louder than words, in cases like political protests and shit. While that's true, scenarios that this that girl are different. Gifts can never replace the words, "I love you."
When I was a kid, my father never told me he loved me. My mother didn't either, but she's a whole other kettle of fish. I would say 'my biological mother or father,' but I never got adopted ones, so who gives a shit. Anyway. My father was rarely around, and when he was, he just spent the entire time fighting with my mother and leaving again. He would do and say anything that could get him to spend less time in the house with her. With us. I can't blame him. If I could've left during those times, I would have. I tried more than once. I even earned the nickname 'runaway' from a family friend because of it.
I was told that I was worthless as early as I could understand words. I don't know what it is about me that set my mother off, but she HATED me. I was always told how expensive I was to keep alive and how I wasn't worth it. If I dared ask for anything, she would remind me how much she spent just to keep me from starving to death and that it was too much already. On the rare occasion I was given something, it was so she could use it as a threat. She was like, "Sure, you can have that toy horse since we got your sister a real one, but you better behave or we'll give it to her and let her break it." Or "Oh, fine, we can keep this dog as a FAMILY pet (NOT YOURS), but if you do something we don't like, we'll take it away and kill it."
Oh, yeah. I have a sister. She’s cut from the same cloth as our mother. I don't consider any of them family anymore. She was two years older than me. She was the "we should have stopped while we were ahead" kid. Anything she wanted, she got.
"Mom, can I have an award-winning horse and expensive dressage lessons?"
"Sure!"
"Mom, can I have a car?"
"No problem!"
"Mom, can you pay for my ballet lessons?"
"Absolutely!"
She was the golden child. The one that could do no wrong and wasn't a mistake. Even after she totaled her car, got arrested for an underage DUI, and got pregnant three times in high school, she was still the good one. I never even asked to go to school dances, parties, or go out with the one friend I had. My sister liked to see me in pain. She'd tell our mom that I did things just to get me in trouble. Whether it involved blaming me for things she did or fabricating stuff, she'd say whatever it took to get my mother to beat me while she watched and laughed. Oh, yeah, our mom was BIG on physical punishment. I've been whipped with everything from a riding crop, a wooden paddle, spoons, and especially belts. Anything that was close at hand when my mother got irritated, I've been hit with it.
At one point, my sister had three tall, beautiful show-worthy horses. I was allowed to keep a sickly old pony for all of a week before she was taken away, then I'd get called ungrateful for asking why we had to get rid of HER instead of one of the horses. Even though my mother said it cost too much to keep them all. With horses being obviously too rich for my blood, I asked for something cheaper, and for once, I got it. I was given a baby goat that one of our neighbors' goats had abandoned for being too weak, and they didn't have time to raise. I loved that goat. I bottle raised him, and named him Ben. He was my best friend for a while. When he grew up, he got so big that I was able to stand on his back to grab tree branches and pull them down so he could eat the leaves. I walked him on a leash like a dog every day. I loved him so much. My mother had me enter him in a show, and we won ninth place! I was thrilled to have something to show against my sister's collection of dressage show ribbons. I finally had proof that I could do something right! Sure, the prize money was taken away from me, but I still had Ben.
But Ben didn't come home with me after the show. It turns out he was sold to a slaughterhouse because that show was for meat goats. I didn't know until he was already gone. Of course, my mother punished me for being upset and even forced me to write a thank-you card to the people who bought his meat.
My mother was always like that. Anything I loved was used as a threat. I eventually accepted that loving anything was a waste of time. I learned to detach myself from my feelings, and I got really good at it. I can completely turn off my emotional reaction to anything. One time I had to put down one of the egg-laying hens at work that got too sick to save, and I felt nothing while bringing down the ax. When I lost out on a job that could have changed my life, I told myself how stupid it was to hope for anything good. Any positive emotion I felt got me punished, so I learned to feel nothing at all. To this day, I still have trouble feeling things, even when I want to. I'm taking pills now, and they help, sometimes.
I've had several suicide attempts. I keep a box of razor blades in my desk just to have them close. I got a tattoo of a heart with rainbows on my wrist. Partially for LGBT solidarity, but mostly to remind myself that there is still beauty in the world. I still struggle with wonder if I actually believe it or not.
I've tried so hard to be a good kid. I never partied, never drank, never smoked even when the chances were there, and I would have greatly loved anything to make the pain stop or even just dull it a little bit. I was in the gifted and talented program at school and was able to graduate at fifteen. For a while, I was sent to a children's home where I was passed around to many people I didn't know, including a clown who I may or may not have actually been related to, until I eventually wound up out here where I am now. It's all pretty hazy, and the details get scrambled.
It's been 10 years since I've had contact with my mother and sister. I can't even keep in touch with the one friend I had, even after I lived with her. She's tried to reach out to me, but I just… can't. I try, but I can't. Sometimes, I can almost pretend that my past wasn't real. It's just a hazy fog that isn't really there. I want to believe that if I don't allow something, or someone, who was part of that past, someone tangible and real, into my life again, then the fog will go away. This is why I can't do it. I know I'm a terrible friend. Ariel, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. You're better off without me in your life anyway.
I typed all of this out because sometimes, about fifty dollars or so shows up in my PayPal from my father's email address. I don't know if it's from him or from her using his email, but it doesn't matter either way. The point is I know my mother is the one sending the money.
I know my mother likes to think she's a good person. She went to church every Sunday, and probably still does. She organized a lot of church events and participated in every church function. I had to be an altar server for several years until I aged out of it and was in the choir. She kept going to that church even after the priest got drunk, called me many horrible names in front of everyone, and was revealed to be a pedophile that raped a little boy at gunpoint. She probably still goes to that same church and organizes things. She likes being in charge. She likes having people look at her and say, "That there is a good person."
But are you, though, Mom? Are you really a good person? Were you a good person when you hit me? When you lied to me? When you laughed with my sister about how much I got hurt for things I didn't do? Were you a good person every time you told me you'd kill my cat or leave my dog at the pound? Were you a good person when you sold Ben to be eaten, knowing that I loved him? Were you a good person when you made me read "A child called It" and told me that you'd start doing the things in that book to me if I didn't behave? Were you a good person every time you told my father I was a liar whenever I tried to tell him what you were doing to me? Were you a good person when you told me I wasn't worth the cost of being alive? Were you?
Fuck you, Mom! Keep your fucking money! A necklace on the nightstand isn't enough. A trinket can't heal years and years and years of abuse and hurt. You can't hide these scars under dollar bills. I hope you die alone. I know I probably will, but I don't even care anymore. I lost the ability to care thanks to you. You can't make up for the things you did and the things you didn't say now. Too little, too late!

i'd really like to hear about 5, 27, and 32 for the 35 fanfiction writer question game! if it isn't a game/i misinterpreted what you meant, i'm really sorry!
It is an ask game! Also I love you thank you!!
I'm putting this one first because I've wanted to talk about it for a while, and yeah it should probably be a post of it's own but here we go;
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I think there's a real art to being able to write X Reader fics, and I think the more you write, the more nuance you develop in order to weave a story around the reader's characteristics to make it inclusive while also personal. i think there's a conversation to be had about inclusivity in the YouTube x Reader community, and while the heavy prevalence of NB!Reader fics is amazing, we still have to look at what other biases we're inserting into our works. descriptions of, or moments regarding, the reader's skin tone, size, hair, clothing choices, family, etc, should be considered carefully if you're looking to make this as accessible as possible for the wide variety of readers. i appreciate people who specify if they're writing a particular type of reader (chubby!reader, or short-haired!reader, etc) because it sets a precedent for the fic, but if you go in without that caveat and suddenly the reader is being described as tanned or with long wavy hair or something, that breaks the immersion and alienates the readers who don't fit this narrow description. uh, also this is just a small thing, but when writing NB!Readers, don't forget about AMAB nb folks existing and being taken into consideration in your writing.
like i said, there's an art to being able to write around describing the reader, while still making the story feel personal. we just have to think about if what we're writing would make sense if we were not ourselves, if that makes sense???
also just personally i'd like to see more diversity in the people chosen for the representations of the read in IG/SMAU posts.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
I actually don't have one definitive answer for this because I've been writing for a very long time so I have a few favourites for different reasons.
for this blog; once you say it out loud it can't be undone {Corpse Husband} | 17K. non-fatal hanahaki au ft. bes frend ethan gameplays. of course this is my favourite, have you read it? it's good!
Feelings are fair game for nine months out of the year, but God forbid you develop a crush during Hanahaki Season; three months of coughing up petals just because you’re in love with someone who doesn’t love you back? It’s a damn inconvenience. You haven’t had an active Hanahaki Season in the four years since you started YouTube, and you think that since you’re in quarantine, not going outside, not meeting new people, you’ll be fine this year too! Except that you start playing Among Us with a group of people you’ve never met before, friends of friends, including the elusive Corpse Husband, who’s kind, and funny, and may be flirting with you, but you’re not quite sure. The point is, you make friends with him not expecting much beyond a streaming buddy, but then you get talking more often, chatting and joking at all hours in DMs, and he’s calling you sweet nicknames on stream, and you wake up on the first day of your Season coughing up flower petals and cursing yourself for falling for a man who’s first name you don’t even know!
but also because i can and will plug my own shit
Reader Insert (also my Overall favourite rn); heard your name in every love song {Ben Hardy} | 72k. fwb-to-lovers, also the author clearly has an x-men hyperfixation. actor!reader.
When you’re twelve and you have a crush on your babysitter, your parents think it’s puppy love, think it’s cute, and you’ll forget about it soon enough. When you’re fifteen, and your former babysitter’s on TV in one of the UK’s most successful soap operas, and is still decidedly hot, all you can remember is the advice he’d given you, and how he’d let you win when playing videogames. When you’re nineteen and you score a supporting role in an X-Men film, the last thing you’d expected was to be acting opposite your former babysitter, and - as it turns out - romancing his character; he’s still decidedly handsome, and you’re definitely not a little kid anymore. He doesn’t even recognize you, and you know what? You’re glad.
OC Fic; Molotov Heart {Alex Summers} | 70k (ish). follows the sequel x-men trilogy and literally spans 20 years. ALSO CLEARLY THE AUTHOR HAS AN X-MEN HYPERFIXATION
Aoibheal Cassidy didn't hesitate to follow her big brother, Sean, when he's recruited by Charles and Erik, even if she's not technically a mutant (yet). By his side, she grows up as the youngest member of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but world won't wait for a girl to grow up, and her life is torn apart by war and disaster; things get worse before they get better. As the years pass, she realises she always ends up on Charles's team with Alex and Hank by her side, even if she's not the little girl they once knew.
and finally, purely canon fic: not from the absence of violence | Breaking Bad. 6.5k. au where jesse gets out of the business like he wants to in season 5, and comes home to find a teenage runaway living in his house.... actually its kind of a little bit of an oc fic but not the way my oc fics usually are.
Sometimes a family is one of the (former) best meth cooks in America, his two best friends who happen to be (former) meth dealers, a teenage runaway, and five million dollars. -- "...and the gentleness that comes, not from the absence of violence, but despite the abundance of it." - Richard Siken
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
I feel very very lucky and very blessed to receive such lovely and kind comments on the fics that I write, but I've got two that stand out the most in my mind, and it's the comments @bingusmode and @marvelsmurphy left on the aforementioned once you say it out loud it can't be undone {Corpse Husband},,,, literally i would die for both of them. i reread the comments on that fic every so often because everyone is so damn lovely, but i just grin like an idiot and turn into that picture of kermit hugging his phone whenever i read their comments specifically. i love you guys
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
for my upcoming fic that i posted those memes about a few days ago; 'god's perfect idiot {Wilbur Soot}'
light-hearted streamer joins smp; shocks everyone with capacity for angst
I loved this!! feel free to send in more!!

Quick Thing About Rook in TMIAB
So, I like to post little bits of concept stuff for "The Multiverse in a Blender" here, and I do so without context. Because of this, I feel the need to make something clear right now regarding Rook:
I. Like. Rook. I am not trying to bash him in this. Let me explain:
So the main story starts about a week into Ben and Rook being partners; the sting of Gwen and Kevin taking off are still very much present. Ben knows that they didn't just decide to upend their lives at the tip of a hat: Kevin had a job and Gwen was going to COLLEGE. She had to go through an entire process to get in and knew several months in advance that she would have to pack up her life to move elsewhere. Neither of them told Ben until they were already on their way out. They CHOSE not to tell him, and he knows it.
Almost immediately, Ben is given a partner. A very skilled, smart, polite partner. A hand picked partner. People like Rook aren't a dime-a-dozen; they're searched for, hunted down, and then groomed. That obviously had to take time, maybe even months. Who decided to give Ben a partner? Probably Max or Azmuth, meaning either on or both of them knew that Gwen and Kevin would be leaving, and neither told Ben.
Furthermore, Rook knows everything that has ever been recorded regarding Ben, his person, and his actions. Research like that takes even MORE time, and that was after he was selected to be Ben's partner.
These facts paint nearly every character Ben admires or is endeared to in a harsh light, and it is only natural for him to be upset about it. Problem is, he's Ben. He doesn't want to be upset about it. Who else does he have, really? He has no friends from his school, his two only real friends essentially abandoned him, and everyone else ultimately spat on him as an intellectual and treated his personal life with complete disregard by giving him the responsibility of adhereing to someone else entirely. Why do I say this? Because Ben isn't a Plumber, Rook IS a Plumber, and Ben was told that Rook is his partner.
Really think about it; when all is said and done, Ben is vigilante, he just so happens to be tethered to the Plumbers per his familial relation with Max. He and his team went by their own schedule and by and large played by their own rules. We see in the show that immediately after Ben is TOLD that Rook is his partner, Max outright nags on Ben for not having his schedule adjusted to Rook (when Ben showed up late and brought a smoothie with him). How is that fair?
Now Ben wouldn't be mad. He would be, don't get me wrong, but he 'wouldn't be mad'. He understands intellectually that the Plumbers are trying to protect him and/or the Omnitrix and keep Ben from going off the deep end as a 'lone wolf'. But he's a teen, and I wouldn't expect a full grown adult to accept this, either.
How does this translate into the story? Simple: Ben doesn't accept Rook as his partner for a good while and complains to his then-interdimensional friends (Blossom, Rex, Zak, Danny, etcetera) about it. This isn't helped by the matter that he's on some level acting out, behaving especially immaturely and going off on his own more frequently (thus prompting Max to call him out further and Rook to grow more patronizing because they're living beings, too; they have emotions), only further worsened by the fact that Ben isn't what Rook was expecting: Ben's a short, borderline scrawny kid with an ego, a touch of vanity, and a slight insensitivity to intergalactic social norms. All these things makes sense on Ben's end: his figure has been dramatized for cinematic effect in the media, he's saved the world and is showered with praise from nearly everyone; and he's from the first generation of true exposure to alien life and society, OF COURSE he wouldn't understand their norms or gets overexcited when seeing an interesting, new alien, or give his new forms almost racy names (Diamond Head, Stink Fly, etcetera...fun names, but how would members of that species feel?).
So, yeah, there are issues when Rex and the rest of them meet Rook. Rex and Danny would likely hold onto those grudges (Danny would, at least until someone gave Rook some form of payback). Ben didn't mean to be relationsally aggressive, he just figured it was a safe bet to complain to his friends about Rook because he never once thought they would ever meet Rook. Now Rex hates him. Likewise with Kai, but that's a different can of worms.
Now, there are relational issues with Rook and Ben, but they eventually get resolved. Sometime after Ben stops projecting his negative emotions about Gwen, Kevin, and Max onto Rook, but Ben would probably just avoid the issue entirely after making the distinction. Also, he'd probably ghost Gwen and Kevin, too. Or be passive aggressive while trying to grin and bear not acknowledging the elephant in the room.
I want Ben and Rook to have a mutually supportive, platonic relationship.

So doesn’t look like bens big secret isn’t anything bad and probably something that Aaron has coincidently been through as well
yeah I saw. Can they not give him his own story/personality? I mean all we know is that Aaron used to bully him, his dad is an alcoholic like Liv (and Sandra), he's gay, and now it looks like his dad was/is abusive - just like Aaron's. (if drunk guy is supposed to be his dad)
But he has NO friends/connections outside of Aaron. He works at the Hop but you NEVER see him there unless it's with Aaron. The Hop had money trouble and people were worried about their job... kayak boy wasn't even around. Kayaking is mentioned - but Ben isn't. There was that one random plotty scene with Luke, Vic, and Ethan where he randomly said he wanted to rip Aaron's clothes off... but he's never talked to any of them since - not even a mention. They could have had him mention something/ANYTHING Hop related - or have Gabby or someone mention he was in there looking for Jai or something. Just a throwaway comment that means nothing but still involves him in the story.
I mean look at Mack and Meena who were announced the same day. Mack has flirted with just about everyone in the village, got in shit with Eric, hooked up with Charity, reunited coira, lives with Billy, Ellis, and Ryan in Marlon's old house, is mates with Ryan, works for the haulage company (apparently) AND is Moira's younger brother.
Meena had the drama with Manpreet at first, the kiss with Billy to piss off Dawn, lives with the Sharmas, dating David, involved with him, Jacob, Liam, Leyla through Leanna's murder, hopefully kills Andrea soon while trying to reunite Manpreet and Charles...
then there is ben... who randomly appeared and hated Aaron... then they went on a few non dates... then he called him toxic in the middle of the village and disappeared for 4.5 months... and now he's back and Knows Everything and is the perfect loving boyfriend - while aaron either barely acknowledges his existence... or acts super needy and like they've been married for 20 years "where are you?? I need you!!"

I did enjoy Ben manipulating Peter this week but tbh writing wise, Ben in the one Lola-related scene last week >>> Ben in Lola-related scenes this week. This week is too heavy on plot driven stuff that wasn't really necessary and the dynamic between Ben and Lola felt weaker than last week imo.
I am nitpicking but tbh after so long without Ben/Lola scenes, it kind of sucks to have them written a bit dodgy for plot purposes and I find it difficult to really buy that Ben would use a line like "looking at photos isn't being there for her" in this situation because 1. He knows Lola is a good mum 2. He knows she'd call him out on that because lmaooo and 3. He actually is Lola's friend and wouldn't be that harsh (imo). Just feels like he was parachuted in to parrot some lines about Lola's parenting for no logical reason 🤔
remember “your girl’s the best” from last year???? that is one of my all time favorite ben/lola scenes and we need to bring back that energy!!!! lola supported ben so much when he lost his hearing so i would love for ben to be even a little more supportive of lola going through all of this with isaac
also yeah ben is the last person who should be talking about someone missing out on important moments in lexi’s life lmao get the fuck out of here with that shit
