reader crying her eyes out because rafe yelled at her..so me omg😢
guys help I made the situation for this so dark 😭
It happens after you’d accidentally walked in on doing some of his business, or as any sane person would call it, hiding a dead body.
you’re in shock, shaking with pure terror as he drags you inside. “I fucking told you— no look at me.” he grabs you by the shoulders once you’re inside “I told you not to bother me while I’m working. right— and you ignored me.”
“Rafe-” you whimper, trying your best not to fall apart then and there. he cuts you off, yelling now, “no. I’m talking now. you do not get to do that! all of this shit I do— all of it is for you, okay? It’s to keep you safe. I cannot fucking do that if you’re getting your nose in business that isn’t yours. so now we’re both in trouble. and that’s on you.” he steps back, chest heaving as he runs one hand through his hair.
you look up at him, lip wobbling as the tears begin to fall. “I’m sorry.” you wail, officially letting the waterworks go.
he looks down for a second before sighing “alright… alright. don’t cry, okay? you’re fine.” he steps forward, hovering a hand over your shoulder before bringing you into his arms.
you cry into his chest, clinging to him desperately. you’re so terrified, and even though he’s the one who your caught carrying a corpse, you can’t help but seek comfort in him. maybe it’s manipulative of him, but you’ll worry about that another day.
“what- why were you- I don’t understand!” you sob, doing your best to make eye contact with him but failing. he doesn’t answer your question, he just shushes you, pulling you back into his embrace and kissing your temple.
“I’ll explain it alll later baby… but uh— for now… why don’t you try calm down then.. we can get ready to go on a little vacation for a bit, that sound good to you?”
you think it over for a moment, because realistically it sounds like he wants to take you with him while he lays low from the cops, but at this point you cannot even think logically, you just want Rafe. “sounds good.” you nod, sniffling sadly.
“good… okay, good. c’mon let’s get you calmed down. go wait on the bed a’ight”

Nina and Maggie find themselves sharing a bottle of wine at the back of the coffee shop one night after a rather peculiar day of dealing with their landlord. It’s been a week now since either Mr. Fell or Mr. Crowley have started to come ‘round both of their shops mentioning the happenstances of the other and, quite frankly, begun over-stepping many boundaries.
“Do you think the two of them from across the road are so preoccupied with our love lives, because they’re compensating for their own relationship problems?” Nina muses, taking a minute to see how Maggie reacts to the idea.
The latter’s eyes dart to her immediately, cheeks tinging a bright red. “They’ve been talking to you too?”
“Oh naturally, and I’ve spotted their little plot a mile away.”
“Right.. naturally,” Maggie bites her lip, tearing her eyes away and subconsciously beginning to mess with a loose button on her cardigan.
“If I wanted to ask you out on a date I certainly wouldn’t need their help,” Nina thinks aloud with a certain smugness, not missing the way Maggie’s face briefly falls.
“Of course… right, of course you wouldn’t.”
“Is something the matter?” She sits upright, suddenly hyperaware of the way her friend’s body language has shifted.
“I’m sorry they’ve been trying to force you to like me,” Maggie begins, the words come so hastily it’s almost like she’s been fighting to hold them in, “if this little after-work-get-together is because you feel obligated in any way to spend time with me, please know I wouldn’t be hurt if you’d rather forget the whole thing.”
Nina reaches across the little table between them, her fingers finding Maggie’s own in a movement so abrupt it startles the other woman’s attention right back to her.
“Apparently I do need some help,” Nina shakes her head, unable to stomach the irony of it all.
“Pardon?” Maggie squeaks out, eyes going wide. Her palms are a bit sweaty underneath Nina’s own, and she wonders how long the poor woman has been sitting with her own worries.
“I thought you knew,” she feels so foolish now, for not saying it outright to begin with. “This little after-work-get-together was, is my idea of asking you out on a date.”
“Oh,” at first she sounds unsure, perhaps a little confused, but in another moment Nina thinks she can parse out a cautious smile from underneath all that visible anxiety. “Oh.”
“Maybe I should have suggested dinner, but I don’t share my best wine with just anyone, you know,” Nina attempts to joke, hoping to alleviate some of her own fears that are now creeping to the surface in the face of Maggie’s sudden realization.
“I don’t even enjoy drinking,” Maggie admits, daring to look back up at her, “but when you offered I couldn’t help myself.”
The sentiment is sweet, but also mildly concerning to Nina. “You don’t ever have to do anything you don’t want to, not on my account. I like you plenty without the wine—or any divine intervention from our neighbors.”
“As long as we’re being honest, there is one thing I’ve been wanting to do,” their hands are still linked across the table, nearly knocking into their untouched glasses as Maggie stands, pulling Nina up right along with her.
“I’m always open to suggestions,” Nina smiles, reveling in the mischievous gleam of Maggie’s eyes.
The kiss is inevitable, awkward at first as they bump foreheads and send each other into a fit of nervous laughter. When they find their rhythm the moment gives way to something much more tangible, yet inelegant—hair tousled, cardigans crumpled, lipstick smeared. Not that either woman minds. They pair perfectly together, like a good cup of coffee and an old record on a rainy day.

Hi! Could you write Larissa x wife reader? They just had a baby and Larissa misses sex so they ask one of the teachers to babysit?
A/N: I hope you’ll like it, I’m not entirely comfortable with writing smut, yet. So, hopefully this one came out enjoyable.
Pairing: Larissa x Reader
Rating: Teen and Up
Words count: 700+
Tumblr media
Ten months had passed since the birth of your first child. The bliss they brought into your life was immeasurable, but with such a great joy came also the enormous fatigue that was being a new parent.
Larissa talked you into going on parental leave while she kept working.
The first couple of months were the hardest. The baby wouldn’t sleep; both you and Larissa would be much more irritable than usual.
You two used to be a power couple and now, after the baby arrived, everything seemed to crumbled.
Yes, you loved each other deeply, but you were both constantly exhausted – both physically and mentally. The baby drained you completely and you knew this was going to happen, you just didn’t expect it was going to take so long for you to adjust to your new life.
Sex was something you both yearned, but since the baby arrived it was almost impossible to have a moment of privacy. The only way to make them fall asleep was to held them in your arms. This meant either you or Larissa had to sleep with them several hours per night.
During the day, you both went into survival mode and sex was not a primal need.
At least not during the first five or six months…
Now, every time you tried to have some privacy with your wife, the baby would start screaming bloody murder. Teething was a real nightmare.
It was the day after Outreach Day, you decided to surprise your wife at work. Of course you had to bring the baby, and of course, before you knew it you were surrounded by a crowd of teachers and student.
They all wanted to say hi to baby Weems, and you remembered why you never brought them to your workplace…
All the stupid little voices, the hands trying to grab them, the unwanted advices, the invasive questions.
Luckily, you had true friends there. Vlad, the fencing coach, faced the excited crowd to get to you.
“All right, all right!” He said. “The show is over. Now let them both breath” he smiled, walking you and the baby towards a more private area of the courtyard.
“Thanks” you said.
“Don’t mention it” he held out his hand to the baby and they blabbed happily. “Are you here to see your wife?” He asked.
You nodded. Something popped up in your mind and you immediately felt guilty about it.
You sighed.
“Would I be a horrible friend if I’d ask you to babysit the baby for a while? I really need some time alone with Larissa…” you tried to explain and Vlad smiled at you.
“Just hand me the little one. Please, take your time… all the time you need” he half laughed, as he reached out and you gave him the baby.
“Okay…” you said, suspiciously. “What’s going on?”
“She needs to get laid” he said. “She’s a nightmare these days. I’m asking you as a Nevermore teacher, please do something about it”.
You laughed lightheartedly, but nodded seriously. “I promise” you joked as you kissed your baby on the forehead, leaving them with your friend.
Once you reached the Principal’s office, your wife was surprised to see you.
She greeted you with a smile and a kiss.
“What are you doing here, love?” Larissa asked, with a smile. “Where’s the baby?!”
“Don’t worry. Vlad volunteered as a babysitter. I’m here on a mission for the school” you replied, locking the door behind your back.
“On a mission for the school?” She sounded confused but her smile didn’t falter and her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
You closed the distance between you two once again and kissed her with love and passion. She was taken by surprise, but immediately accepted the kiss with a soft moan and walked back as you pushed her forward until her legs hit the top of her desk.
You grinned in the kiss, deepening the kiss, savouring her lips and sighing in satisfaction.
Her red lipstick was all over your mouth but you couldn’t care less.
“Oh— how I’ve missed you, my love…” she breathed against your mouth; her eyes were closed, her fingers were deep into your hair, keeping you close.
She sat on the desk and parted her legs, welcoming you between her knees.
“I’ve missed you too” you managed to reply, breathless, between her kisses.
And if Larissa was more relaxed after two hours of screwing each other’s brains out behind the locked doors of her office, it was all to the good.

What Once Was
Summary: Janus bumped into Virgil as he goes down a self-depricating spiral... which stirs up old feelings
Pairing: platonic Anxciet
Warnings: swearing, self-deprication
Word count: 1,052
My fic for day 6 Kiss & Make Up of @tss-anxceit-week
----------------------------
All Janus wanted to do was grab his wine from where he was hiding it from Remus, and watch some drama content where people hilariously overreact over everything and forget about everyday life.
But… of course that didn't end up to be what happened.
When he hid his wine in the light sides' kitchen, he thought himself pretty clever since Remus rarely ever comes near here. Something about their 'lameness' rubbing off on him.
And, when he does his pranks he usually prefers to use their rooms.
Now, however, he regretted every moment of that decision. Because, obviously someone had to pop up in the common room right next to the kitchen right when he was about to leave.
He was about to try to sneak away before whoever it was could notice him when-
"...Fucking stupid…"
That voice… that shaky voice…
Despite his better judgment, Janus risked a glance towards the common room to confirm his suspicion.
And, sure enough, he saw none other than the anxious side, pacing all over the area, probably trying to release some of that pant up anxious energy.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid…" he kept saying over and over again. "What the fuck was I thinking?"
Janus knew he should just disappear and forget what he saw, Virgil made his feelings towards him more than clear… not that Janus can blame him…
But… for some reason… he couldn't find it in him… Dammit he still cares about the traitor… despite everything.
"What are you doing here?"
The hate dripping from Virgil's words should be familiar to him by now, but they always feel like a punch to his gut, no matter how used to it he was getting.
Janus opened his mouth to answer when…
"Know what? I don't care, just get out, you shouldn't even be here. I can't… I can't deal with you right now."
And there it was again, that shake in his voice. He knew Virgil well enough to know that something was wrong.
He finally looked up to find Virgil frowning at him, "you're weirdly quiet…" he pointed out.
Sometimes… Janus forgets that Virgil knows him well enough too… or tries to forget anyway.
"What happened?" Janus finally managed to ask, raising a curious eyebrow at him.
Virgil huffed, "right, like you care… Why are you still here?"
Janus managed a smirk, "why do you think?"
But Virgil didn't rise to the bait, he just let out a long, tired sigh. "I don't have time for your stupid games…"
Janus shrugged, "not a game, you still didn't answer my question."
"That's because it's none of your business." Virgil shot back.
"I'm not leaving until you answer." Janus put his wine on the counter and crossed his arms over his chest, looking at Virgil expectantly.
"I can just go to my room." Virgil pointed out.
"Then why are you still here?" Janus used Virgil's earlier question.
"Because you're obviously up to something, so I'm not letting you out of my sight until you leave." He shot back with a glare.
Janus tutted, "you always were a terrible liar, honestly, Virgil." He rolled his eyes, "who do you think you're fooling? Certainly not me."
Virgil turned back to his anxious pacing, "I really can't deal with you right now…"
"Why?" Janus tried again, "is something… Wrong?" He paused for a bit before finishing to put emphasis on the last word. "Trouble in paradise?"
"Of course not." Virgil snapped, turning back to glare at Janus.
"Right… of course, nothing's ever wrong in Rainbows and Sunshine land." Janus rolled his eyes again.
"No…" Virgil agreed despite the obvious sarcasm, "the problem's always me…" he added quietly.
Ah, now they're getting somewhere.
"What do you mean?" Janus asked carefully and Virgil flushed when he realized he said it out loud.
"Nothing, forget it." He said quickly, too quickly.
It was Janus' turn to sigh, if he wanted Virgil to open up… he's gonna have to do the same.
"Fine, I'll admit it…" Janus took off his gloves, shivering from how exposed he felt without them, "I'm worried about you." He admitted when his hands were bare.
Virgil paused to stare at him for what felt like hours, before turning away. “Wow… just… wow..”
Janus frowned, putting back his gloves, “I’m telling the tru-”
“Are you?” Virgil cut him off sharply, “are you seriously telling me that after everything…” he flailed his arms, “you’re worried about me?”
“Yes.” Janus said simply, “don’t you feel the same about me?”
Virgil snorted, “of course not!”
Janus examined his hands, “still a terrible liar…”
Virgil returned to his pacing, “whatever, it’s still none of your business and our days of having heart-to-hearts are over, so piss off before I make you.”
Janus rolled his eyes, “woo I’m so scared… if you want me to leave just answer my question.” He repeated.
Virgil threw his arms in frustration, “same thing that always happens, okay?! I messed up and made everything worse. There, happy? Now scram.” There were tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
Janus didn’t say anything, but he didn’t leave either. He just watched as Virgil sat on the armrest of the couch, curling into a ball by hugging his knees to his chest and burying his head between them.
It’s not often that Janus doesn’t have anything to say, but in this moment, Janus could only stare.
Then, he was standing behind Virgil, not knowing when he even started moving towards him.
But, he hugged him from behind and whispered softly, “from my experience… you only make things better…” before finally disappearing.
And you can be sure he was not crying when he appeared back in his room, not even noticing he left his wine behind… it was just… dust in his eyes, he didn’t clean his room in ages.
Our days of having heart-to-hearts are over…
Janus looked over his yellow couch, remembering all those times where he and Virgil would just… talk, about anything that came to mind… talks that lasted for hours without either of them noticing.
But Virgil was right, those days are long gone, and Janus has no one to blame but himself.
Though maybe, one day… They could make up. Because Janus wasn’t lying… Virgil made everything better, for him at least.

Based on @raccooncass 's headcanon on hearing loss across the various Redacted characters, definitely not all projecting my own hearing loss struggles into this.
Starts off with some angst about sensory loss but quickly gets more affirmative and positive. (Obviously yes these are my own perspectives and I'm only a little hoh your mileage may vary etc etc)
Anyway mini fic under the cut!
"Sweetheart, you okay?" Milo called as he let himself in their apartment front door. "I tried to call and see if you wanted any take out, but…"
He stopped when he saw his partner pace past the doorway, a frustrated scowl on their features. "Sweetheart?" He called again, a little louder, but tentative.
When they answered, their voice was strained. "I heard it, I know I did, but I can't find the damn thing. Can you call it again?"
A discomfort settled in Milo's stomach. He wished it was from the fast food he'd planned to share with them instead of this. "Uh, sure thing. But do you still have it on vibrate…?"
They shot him a look, and he just sighed and shrugged one shoulder as he fished out his cell. Only a few taps were needed before he heard the soft buzzing from somewhere in the office. But they weren't looking towards the sound—his partner's eyes were locked on his.
"You can hear it, right?" The tough Department investigator who was chomping at the bit to take out a Shade just a few weeks ago, who snuck their way into his own apartment to interrogate him, who gave him shit with a wry grin while they healed him after taking out their target, now looked and sounded on the verge of tears.
"Yeah, well I'm a wolf. I got better hearing than you anyway."
"It's not that much in human form though, is it? My hearing really is just like this now."
He almost said it's only the one ear though, right? before catching himself and biting his tongue. Ever since they fought off the Shade together, his Sweetheart's been unable to hear out of their right ear. Healers took a look and said it might recover with time, but there was nothing more they could do. It's been nearly two weeks since then, though, and nothing has improved.
"Hey, hey it's alright," Milo soothed, as the call went to voice-mail and the phone went silent.
"No, it's not," they bit back, bitter and angry. "Milo, I'm a damn investigator, what am I supposed to investigate if I can't fucking hear? I'm a Stealth, I'm supposed to be good at infiltrating, getting information, not getting caught, but I know I'm talking louder than I used to, and… and I can't even hear my own damn phone ring!" They pressed their fists into their eyes, trying to physically hold back the tears.
Milo wrapped his arms around them, crushing them close against his chest. "You'll adjust," he promised, using the words the healers offered back then. "I know it's tough now, baby, I know it sucks to lose this part of yourself, but your body will adapt. You can still be the damn finest Investigator that Department has, no matter your ability."
They sniffled into his shoulder, arms tight around his waist. He could feel them nod even as they snuggled in closer, squeezed tighter. But it took longer before the subtle shuddering of their body slowly subsided. When they were ready, they took a deep breath and stepped away. "Okay. Try it again. Let me figure this shit out."
It took two calls before they picked up on the buzzing noise, but they kept walking away from it, wrinkling their nose when they'd lose the trail. Milo tried to chime in with assistance but they hushed him each time. When Milo called a third time, they closed their eyes and focused, not moving for the entirety of the incessant buzzing. Then, without warning, they disappeared from sight as they cloaked. If Milo hadn't gotten used to this sort of thing by now, he'd have imagined they just vanished. He could only barely sense their aura as they moved into the office, and this time he heard the ringing on his end stop.
"Good job, Sweetheart," he said into the receiver.
"I can't tell where sounds are coming from," they replied in a tone so quiet he could only hear it on the phone, not even where their voice should be carrying from the room over. "That's what's fucking me up, you know?"
"Whaddya mean? You can hear where it is outta your good ear, right?"
"It's the fact I only have the one ear." They said, but their voice sounded kind of excited, like it did whenever they got a lead. Milo smiled despite himself. They still had such a shitty poker face. "The way we can locate objects by sound is because we have two ears—your brain picks up the sound from two different inputs, and it can triangulate the direction based on where it sounds louder. But since I'm down to one, it's harder to tell where the sound is coming from. I can't track it as good. But you know what that means?"
Milo's heart bloomed with something deeper than admiration, stronger than affection. "Yeah? What is it, Sweetheart?"
"It just means I gotta get better."
—
Gym time together was always a lot of fun. Not only was it a good way to spend some quiet time together, even if they couldn't talk much, but Milo also got to see some sweet eye candy of his Sweetheart. While he worked on his deadlifts, his eyes always wandered back to them on the leg press machine. And thank his lucky stars for the angle, he could see them partially reclined back, face pinched in concentration. The strain of each breath as they extended their legs, the wash of relief when they gently clacked the weights back together, it reminded him a little of more private times, alone in their bedroom. Yeah, working out together was always real nice.
At the end of their set, they took a deep steadying breath and adjusted their earbuds, just visible in both ears. Milo had asked why they wear two when they can only hear one, but they said it feels weird and off balance to wear them any other way. But as he set down his weights, intent on walking over and asking if they wanted to… you know… get out of there… some other guy interrupted them wiping down the equipment.
At first, Milo saw them take out both earbuds, genuinely listening to whatever the guy was asking. But it clearly wasn't just a simple request to use the machine next, because Milo saw how his mate's eyes glazed over in annoyance, their mouth tugging in a frown. They popped their left earbud back in and kept cleaning, occasionally nodding and pursing their lips to mmm in acknowledgement. Milo couldn't help but laugh and watch the scene as the guy got increasingly exasperated before leaving, and that was when Milo walked over.
"Have fun chasing off your admirer?" He teased. He could feel the freshly minted mate bond pulse when they smiled at him, fully removing both earbuds and tucking them in the arm band that held their phone.
"Is that what he was? I couldn't hear a thing," they shot back, comfort and calm pouring from their usually quiet, soft aura. Was this was being mated felt like? Like everything was right and true when you look at each other? Not even thinking about being jealous because you are so sure, so solid, so confident that this is the person for you?
"I love you, Sweetheart," Milo laughed, looping an arm around their waist and kissing them once, light and soft. "Let's get home."
-
Milo always secretly loved any occasion to dress up, though today his excitement was a little dampened by his mate's obvious discomfort with the whole thing. It was some work party held by the Department, and they were expected to make an appearance. In addition to the general discomfort and anxiety their job could inspire on a typical day, today was worsened by the choice of venue—a loud, small, crowded restaurant.
While their hearing comprehension adjusted years ago for an average conversion, busy, noisy places still made them anxious, the overwhelming noise jarring to process and hard focus on any one conversation. Milo slid up against their good left side, speaking low but clear in their ear: "Hey, Sweetheart, you holding up okay?"
They managed a thin smile but their hands moved quick and fast, signing out, "No," quick and simply.
Milo rubbed their back, biting his lip. They both started taking sign classes as a backup just for situations like this. At first, he'd wondered if maybe they should try some telepathy classes at DAMN and learn some basic mind-to-mind communication, but for one, he wasn't sure how far he could manage with his weaker Shifter magic, and two, sign seemed more… comfortable. On the down low. A lot of empowered people learned some telepathy to make up for communication shortfalls, but sometimes the unempowered get it right. It felt more personal, more them, and his mate liked the idea it might not be something their peers were as familiar with. Trust a Stealth to like being a little secretive for fun. Now signing when they couldn't hear real well became a sort of grounding tactic for them, an easy way to communicate and not need to strain to pick out one voice in a crowd of dozens.
"Do you think they'd notice if you leave now?" He signed.
Their grin widened to a wry smirk. "We only just got here, babe. Of course they would."
"You're a Stealth," he replied with a laugh. "Tell them you were cloaked."
That got a chuckle out of them, a full-on adorable face-wrinkling chuckle that wrung some of the stress from their eyes. "Tried that before," they signed sheepishly, hands close to their chest. "Didn't work."
That made Milo laugh too. "Can I kiss you?" He signed, while smiling and looking deep in their beautiful eyes.
In response, they hooked one finger under the knot of his tie and pulled him close, giving him a warm, deep, but brief kiss. Tonight might suck, but afterward, they can go home and relax in peace and quiet, there for each other like they will for the rest of their lives.

They’re basically siblings your honor.
[based on an actual in-game interaction of my buddy turning in a mission on Hoth]
Taskar grinned at the other miraluka who had begun to thank him for handling the matter she asked of the smuggler. “I know you can’t see it, but I’m just that awesome.” Taskar couldn’t finish that statement without a shit-eatting grin.
Behind him Isadola was having a small discussion with Lana waiting for him to finish up. Isadola stopped mid sentence as her happy demeanor quickly faded upon hearing her friend’s statement. Her head slowly turned towards her friend with a death glare beginning to cross her face.
Lana pinched the bridge of her nose hanging her head, “Oh no…” the Sith letting out a heavy sigh, knowing what was going to happen next.
Bowdaar noticed Isadola slowly stalking towards Taskar as he crossed his arms “I will say you had an honorable death” taking a step back as the other miraluka approached with anger written across her face.
“What do you mean-” Was all the smuggler could get out before a fist flew into his face causing his vision to go black briefly. Taskar was still dazed, blinded by the bright sun shining down on the arctic tundra he now found himself laid out on with an angry Isadola standing over him.
“Seriously? You smug prick. After everything in our childhood you still make those jokes? I should-” Isadola clearly miffed, was cut off by her wife trying to drag her away from the stunned smuggler.
“Darling please control yourself. You should know he didn’t mean it like that.” Lana had to restrain the angry woman from possibly harming her friend more.
Taskar could only laugh as he spat out a little blood getting up to his feet, before turning back to the other jedi who watched all of it. “If you ever need our services again you know who to call!” before turning back to his friend. “Did being trained by the jedi make you lose your sense of humor, Issie?”
There was a long pause as Taskar could almost feel Isadola shooting death glares at him before she responded again “You’re lucky we still have stuff to do…” Isadola mumbled as Lana finally let her go, trusting that she wouldn’t do anything rash again.
“Yeah I love you too, you grumpy bitch” Taskar grinned briefly at his friend as he pulled out a datapad to check what mission they had to start heading to next. “Come on, you can work out your anger at me by killing some pirates.”

Written by @lily-janus as a gift to @8beez for the @sanderssidesgiftxchange
I gotta be honest I've had a major writers block for a long while now and this fic doesn't have much plot, I tried to do a pure fluff story but idk how I feel about how it came out.
Hope you enjoy it! And in the case you don't I'd be happy to write for you again something else^^
Happy holidays!
-----------------------------------
It was quiet in the Sanders’ home when Patton walked inside, knowing his kiddos are fast asleep by now as he entered and went to arrange their gifts under the tree before going to bed himself.
What he didn’t know, however, was that his kiddos couldn’t wait to find out what they’re gifts were, which won’t be until much later the next day due to Patton insisting they’ll go around the neighborhood and give everyone sweet little gifts every year.
His kiddos had a plan.
The problem was, this wasn’t the first time they tried it so they were sure their dad would be ready for them to try again. Another problem was that the tree with the gifts was in Patton’s bedroom.
So they decided Janus would go in first, him being the stealthiest and the best at improvising if something goes wrong.
The rest waited outside for Janus’ signal that things were either safe or he needed back up.
In the case Patton will wake up, Remus would come in first claiming he had a nightmare and try to lead their dad away from the room.
If that won’t work Virgil will claim to be hungry and not being able to sleep because of it.
Logan planned for more possible scenarios but for now it was the time to act.
“Alright, everyone knows the plan?” Logan made sure, looking at each of his brothers’ eyes.
Virgil played with the sleeves of his pajamas nervously but nodded.
Remus grinned wildly as he nodded with vigor.
And Janus smirked, tilting his head slightly in agreement.
“Okay, let us begin then, remember stealth is key.”
They all turned to look at Remus. “What? I can be stealthy!” He said loudly, disproving his point. “Ok not usually but our presents are on the line here! I’ll be quiet, promise.”
They exchanged looks, then shrugged, Logan opening the door of their bedroom slowly and carefully, leading them all down the hall.
Things seemed to be going smoothly and quietly for a while until they reached the rickety flight of stairs that led to the bottom floor of the house.
Logan, being the lead, started going down first, making sure each stair wouldn’t make a sound with his toe before landing on it, Virgil and Janus followed once he reached the ground and they all looked up to watch Remus go down last.
Remus wasn’t careful like the others and in his rush he produced a number of loud squeaks from the stairs before he caught up with the rest, all of them holding their breath for any indication that their dad woke up from the noise.
After a few tense seconds ticked by, they all let out a relieved sigh when they didn’t hear anything from Patton’s bedroom.
Logan resumed the lead again as they walked in a straight line towards their target.
Suddenly, they heard a loud bark before Virgil was tackled to the floor from the force of their puppy, Mr. Snuggles, jumping on him and showering his face with dog kisses.
Remus’ noise earlier apparently woke him up.
Virgil giggled as he tried to get away from the over energized pup just as they heard the click of a light being switched on and their dad’s footsteps coming their way.
They all froze.
The footsteps were getting closer.
Janus looked around quickly before spotting their couch and signaling the others to follow him and hide under it.
Mr. Snuggles finally left Virgil to greet Patton and they all slid under the couch a split second before Patton’s bare feet came to view.
“Hey there Snuggly…” Patton greeted sleepily, yawning softly, “couldn’t sleep huh?” He squatted down to pet the dog for a bit before standing back up, “alright, let’s fill up your bawl so we can both go back to sleep.” And they both disappeared into the kitchen.
“This is our chance, Janus, make a run for the bedroom and hide under dad’s bed until he falls back asleep, then you can let us in one by one.” Logan whispered, leaning a little sideways so he could see Janus heard him and understood.
Janus smirked, “you got it, Teach.” he crawled on his belly before emerging from under the couch and standing up, checking the coast was clear, he made a run for the bedroom and slid under the enormous bed, and waited.
From where he lay, he could see the bottom of the tree and the four presents arranged next to it, he quickly spotted the yellow-wrapped one with cartoonish green snakes and smirked, already seeing that the size could match what he was hoping to get this year.
It took all his self control not to exit from under the bed and tear away the yellow wrapping paper, but he was quickly saved from the temptation by his yawning dad returning to the room and crawling back into bed, his quiet, even breathing soon indicated that he fell back asleep.
Quietly, Janus crawled from under the bed and moved to the door, opening it a crack to stick his hand out and give the others the all-clear sign.
He quietly moved towards the presents as he heard the light footsteps of his brothers moving closer and stared at his present.
He picked it up just as Logan slipped inside the room and quickly spotted his own gift, wrapped in a navy blue paper.
They both shared a smile before starting to shake their gifts gently, trying to guess what was inside by the size and heft of them.
They were quickly joined by Remus and Virgil and the guessing game began.
Logan’s gift had the shape of a book but it was a bit too heavy and a bit bumpy on the back to be only that.
Janus’ was quite big and heavy, making him hope it was the game console he’d been hinting at his dad to get all year.
Virgil’s was light and had the slight shape of some sort of animal, making him think this was another plushie for his collection.
And Remus’ was bulky and round, not too light nor too heavy, making him wish this was some sort of toy-weapon.
The light turned on suddenly.
They all jumped, having been too focused on their gifts to pay attention to their father, who woke up from their presence and went to turn on the light.
He looked at them with an amused expression, “well what do we have here?” He chuckled lightly.
“Um… you’re dreaming?” Janus offered with a nervous smile.
Patton barked a hearty laugh, “nice try.” He squeezed them all in a bear hug, “naughty children, what am I going to do with you?” He said lightly before releasing them.
“Let them open their presents early?” Remus suggested with a hopeful grin, making their bad laught again as he went to seat on the floor with them.
“Alright, alright, as long as you promise to help me make cookies for the neighborhood afterwards, deal?” Patton offered with a smile, how can he get mad at those adorable faces, and on christmas morning too.
The four kids exchanged excited smiles before nodding, “deal!” They said together, making their dad chuckle again.
“Alrighty, who’s fi-” he didn’t get to finish as all four brothers unwrapped their presents at the same time.
Janus got his gaming console, Logan got a hardback edition of his favorite book along with some bookmarks and a reading night light that attaches to the book, Virgil got the rarest plushie of his collection and Remus got a plastic morningstar with soft spikes.
Seemed like they all guessed right.
“Okey dokey, now for your part of the deal, go brush your teeth as I set everything up ok?” Patton said as he got up, ruffling Virgil’s hair affectionately as they excitedly ran to their room with their new gifts.
“And Logan?” He stopped his oldest kid in his tracks as he turned to face him. Patton winked, “nice planing.”
Logan smiled wide before resuming his run.
Patton sighed contently, what did he do to deserve them?
He remembered the adoption center thinking he was crazy to adopt four children on his own, but they were brothers and he didn’t want to seperate them. Besides, he fell hard for all of them and he couldn’t imagine his life without them.
Things were hard at first and they still are at times, but Patton wouldn’t change it for the world.
Slowly, he rose up from the ground and went to the kitchen to set up the ingredients for his famous Christmas cookies.
He whistled happily to himself as he got out his holiday cookie cutters. Including shapes such as: santa, santa hat, gingerbread man, gingerbread house, stars, christmas trees and many more.
After arranging those he went to the upper shelves and grabbed the green and red food dye for the frosting before starting to lay out the ingredients for the cookies themselves.
Just as he was finishing up, he heard his kiddos rushing inside the kitchen, teeth brushed and smiling wildly.
“Cookies!” Remus yelled as he rushed in first, followed by his brothers.
Patton grinned, gosh he loved these kids. “Yes, Remus, cookies. And we want everyone to have at least one plus leave plenty to ourselves so we better start or we’ll be here all day.”
They all nodded in agreement.
“Alright, Janus and Logan are in charge of mixing the ingredients and making the dough, Virgil and Remus, you would cut the dough into shapes and arrange them to put in the oven while I make the frosting.” Patton split the assignments and they all went to work.
Patton turned on the radio for some christmas songs as they worked, playing and laughing with each other.
It was a perfect Christmas morning.
The day went by as they made more and more cookies, Patton wanted to make sure that there will be enough for everyone, and took some eating and watching holiday cartoons breaks.
Christmas eve finally arrived and the Sanders family put on their coats and loaded cookie baskets and set out to deliver them around their small town.
“Dad?” Logan asked as they walked the streets.
“Yes Kiddo?” Patton answered with a smile.
“Why do we deliver cookies to everyone each year? I’m sure plenty, if not, all the people in town have their own food and cookies.” Logan wondered.
“I just think it’s a nice tradition, you know? I’m sure most people don’t need our cookies, but it’s not about that, it’s about spreading kindness and giving back to the world.” Patton answered.
“I don’t think I get it.” Logan frowned as they reached another house and gave the residence some cookies.
Patton tried to think about how best to explain it to his son when they entered an old building. He rang the bell of the first apartment and waited.
The man who answered looked tired and… pretty cute, Patton noticed with a faint blush. “Merry christmas, sir! We-”
“Sorry I… I don’t have any money for charity… I’ll probably get kicked out of here soon anyway, have a good night.” He went to close the door but Patton stopped him.
“We’re not here for donations, we’re going around town to bring people christmas cookies! Homemade, would you like some?” He picked one from his basket and offered it to the handsome man, his kids playing behind him in the hallway.
“Oh! Um… for free? Just like that?” The man asked, surprised. Patton nodded and was delighted to see a smile forming on the man’s face. “That’s awfully kind of you! Um… I’m Roman, nice to meet you.” The man offered his hand.
Patton smiled, “Patton! …are you alone here, Roman? On Christmas eve?” He tried to look inside the apartment.
Roman let out a sigh, “yep… my family doesn’t approve of the ‘failed gay actor’ lifestyle so..” he shrugged. “Anyway, I’d love some cookies thank you, you probably want to continue to the next place.”
Patton’s heart went out for the man, “actually, can I borrow a pen and piece of paper?”
Roman’s eyebrow shot up curiously but he went inside and came back with what he asked for. Patton took the items and wrote his phone number and address.
“There, if you need someone to talk to… or a place to crash for a while, we have a guest room, it’s a big house, I’m a doctor and we love space so..” Patton explained, smiling as he pressed the piece of paper into Roman’s hand along with a few dozen cookies. “Merry Christmas, Roman.”
“I um… Thank you,” Roman said in disbelief, eyes turning slightly watery, “m-merry Christmas” he stammered and closed the door gently.
“Huh.”
Patton turned around to see Logan watching the closed door.
“What is it, Kiddo?”
Logan looked up at his dad and smiled, “I think I get it now.”
Patton returned the smile, “c’mon, that’s enough for tonight, let’s head back and watch The Grinch until we fall asleep, help me with your brothers.”
….
It was quiet in the Sanders’ home as Patton tacked in his sons.
“Daddy?” Remus asked softly as Patton covered him with his green blanket, “why don’t we have a mom?”
Patton blinked in surprise at the question, “well son I… I’m not that interested in women.” He said simply.
“Then why don’t we have a second dad?” Remus persisted.
“Well I guess I haven’t found the right one…” his thoughts wondered to Roman, “yet..”
Remus yawned, “oh, okay, g’night dad.”
Patton kissed his forehead, “good night, son.”
