#live action reports

Note
Do you get the impression the live action is treating us like utter morons?? Like I thought that making it aimed at an older audience would open the doors for more subtle story telling, but no, they're just using monologues to tell us eveything! Like in the second episode Katara's like 'oh his power isn't that he's the avatar, it's that he ~connects~ to people'. Girl we're not idiots we can see that!! And the first episode with Aang's goddawful 'I don't want this responsibility' monologue
THIS, YES. The word that keeps coming to mind is definitely "subtlety". The show for literal children? Had it. The remake for adults? Not so much.

@ellii0ttI @reineyday @reineydraws: hope this makes sense, my general knowledge of hockey is flimsy at best, my general knowledge of figure skating is non-existent, but my absolute favorite genre of fanfic to write is fake newspaper articles, the more salacious the better. Hope y'all enjoy it. Picture this getting published in whatever equivalent to Page Six /TMZ is there in the one piece world.
LOVE IS IN THE ICE. Olympic icon Dracule Mihawk goes on ice with Pirates' jersey after Akagami’s coming out sparks rumors of romance
Tumblr media
LOGUETOWN (19).— Dracule Mihawk (43) appeared last night at the Loguetown Exhibition Gala with a Pirates’ jersey, a month after Akagami No Shanks’ (39) coming out sparked rumors of romance.
It appeared to be Akagami’s first jersey with the Pirates, from when the ice hockey legend was first drafted. Dracule proceeded to skate to the tune of Eye Of The Tiger, ending his routine with an axel that made the audience fear an accident, and that brought to mind Akagami’s career ending injury.
Dracule has declined to make any comments, opting for skipping altogether the media after the exhibition gala. On his part, Akagami was seen at the VIP section alongside other past and present Pirates’ players, although it’s unclear whether or not he was present for Dracule’s routine.
Monkey D. Luffy (19), Akagami’s protégé, posted a selfie sitting next to his mentor with the caption: ‘Power isn’t determined by your size, but by the size of your heart and dreams’. Fans believe that it references Akagami and Dracule’s relationship. The Pirates’ winger, Roronoa Zoro (21), has fueled the speculation ‘liking’ a Tiktok that breaks down the theory.
The Pirates’ new captain came out shortly before Akagami did, telling Marineford reporter Rocky Port Koby (23) that he’s “pretty proud of who he is, which is not straight in any shape, way or form”. Akagami openly supported him, citing him as an inspiration when he came out through a message in ‘X’.
Although the rumors about Akagami and Dracule’s relationship are not new —they have been linked on and off since the Olympic Games of 09, the first one in which they both competed— Akagami’s recent coming out has done nothing but fueling further the rumors of romance.
Akagami and Dracule have been sighted together various times throughout the city during the past month, from the exclusive Baratie to the Thousand Sunny ice ring’s parking lot, and to Roronoa’s birthday party last week, a star studded event which gathered the biggest names in the ice hockey community.

{ on an unrelated note: here's some thoughts i had and mentioned to a few people over on discord, and i thought they'd be worth sharing here too:
thinking about neku being sent to shinjuku again and ive started to form a sort of theory— since neku had already won the reapers game and chose to return to the RG and live out the rest of his existence there (or it was determined he’d obviously choose to go back to the RG) in the event that he died again in shibuya, he wouldnt be able to play shibuyas game again and wouldve just immediately been processed into Soul. but coco, a reaper, doesnt actually realize this because shes not that high up the food chain. so when coco shot neku, what happened was that joshua took his dying body to shinjuku so that he would die within shinjuku’s bounds and therefore be given a “chance to play the game” within *its* bounds (even though obviously that was no longer possible, because by the time neku came to, he was likely in the ruins of what was shinjuku); ie he exploited a reality-rule loophole of sorts in order to save neku from a very early permadeath, though it did result in the latter being trapped in shinjuku for 3 years because there was no actual game to be played there. cause of the fact it didnt exist anymore. ( also i think he might have had some healing to do in order for joshua to bring his ass back to rg — ) ( and in my joshua’s case, he also wanted to have neku take his place as composer as a last resort, if ever anything went south re:whatever was up with and/shinjuku/neo) anyhoo, perhaps neku had to locate the shibuya river in order to get back?

IT'S DONE!
It took me five hours but I managed to write 4.6k words today and finished my draft!
(I am not happy with it but at least it exists now. XD)
I ended up at 55.6k words, so with the additional beef to the subplots I plan to add next go-round, I think I'll have something big enough to work with.
Eeep! So happy.

Lilo & Stitch live-action remake casts Zach Galifianakis in an undisclosed role
It has been reported that Zach Galifianakis, known for his role in The Hangover trilogy and for his online talk show Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, among other works, will be starring in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch. His role has not been disclosed.
Additionally, Chris Kekaniokalani Bright has been confirmed to be the film's screenwriter; he was initially reported to be in talks to write the script last year when it was reported that Dean Fleischer Camp will direct. Walt Disney Pictures is also still looking for the film's Lilo and Nani Pelekai and is doing a wide search for them. Stitch will, of course, be rendered in CG.

3. The way that the older human beings get the more gentle and forgiving and kind they often become? Like human beings who learn to turn their anger into gentleness and people who turn their jealousy into generosity and people who turn their ignorance into the skill of listening just. People becoming better as they age because they learn more and use what they learned to understand others and be kinder.
4. People who turn bright and smiley when you compliment them! People who are awkward or weirded out when you compliment them! People who immediately compliment you back! People who strike up a conversation when you compliment them! People!!!
5. I got a good grade in driving lessons, something that is normal to want and possible to achieve
#5 happy things#on 3: i know it's not always and we all know PLENTY of adults who Suck etc#but at the same time. idk. i look at my dad who grew up with anger and who became the most gentle and understanding man#bc he INTENTIONALLY worked hard to be over his decades of living and is still working on it!!!#my older sister who knew she was cold to people and studied and practiced her listening skills so now she is the person that#i'm probably most comfortable with talking to about just about anything bc i know she won't judge and she'll answer thoughtfully#who worked for over a DECADE to obtain that skill to listen and respond with kindness and gentleness and understanding#looking at all the people around me who are just. SO cool and amazing and lovely and i know it's bc they put in that time and effort#we were talking about looking at student report cards in class and stuff from kindergarten and how it's stuff like#'sara is good at sharing!' 'nick loves playing with his friends and is very energetic!' 'tom is a very gentle child'#and i'm just like. that's included in a report card! that's something kids are taught and learn and we continue to learn and relearn#i know i know it's sonder and i cannot shut up about sonder#but at the same time it's just so. overwhelming and amazing and beautiful idk. i want to be someone kind really really really#idk if i can but wouldn't it be so nice to be kinder and gentler and understanding and patient and all those good things? i think it must#sometimes i think too hard about being good or my own personality or right and wrong or normal and unique and all those things#and i think i do. REALLY want to learn those things. but if i could just figure out how to make people feel bright and special and loved#wouldn't that be oh so lovely?#like i'm really not a compassionate person at all but i'd like to do it. not as a feeling but as an action right? it's a continual study#i was talking with my friend today and she's a friend who i've been slowly slowly learning to love and i just thought my goodness#i love her so much. she feels easy to love. and i definitely would not have felt that before so i'm just. really grateful to feel that way#bc she is so wonderful!!! and i love her SO much!!! and i love loving her!!! it's such a good feeling#annika rambles in the tags

Innocent Black Americans are seven times more likely than White Americans to be falsely convicted of serious crimes, according to a new study published Tuesday (Sept. 27) by the National Registry of Exonerations, shining a spotlight on a pattern of pervasive racism in the criminal justice system.
“Race is central to every aspect of criminal justice in the United States,” the researchers wrote. “The conviction of innocent defendants is no exception. Thousands of exonerations across dozens of years demonstrate that Black people are far more likely than white people to be convicted of crimes they did not commit.”
“Race and Wrongful Convictions in the United States 2022” is a joint project of the University of California, Irvine, the University of Michigan Law School and Michigan State University College of Law. It tracks all known wrongful convictions in the United States since 1989 and analyzes the role of race in the conviction of innocent people.
Although Blacks comprise roughly 13 percent of the U.S. population, they represent 53 percent of the more than 3,200 exonerations since 1989.
“We see this racial disparity, in varying degrees, for all major crime categories except white collar crime,” the researchers said.
They examined racial disparities in the three categories of crime that produce the highest number of exonerations: murder, sexual assault, and drug crimes.
According to the report, innocent Black people are 7.5 times more likely to be convicted of murder than innocent white people. That’s partly blamed on the high homicide rate in Black communities. At the same time, police misconduct is 50 percent more likely involved in the conviction of innocent Black people compared to innocent white people.
Innocent Black people are almost eight times more likely than White people to be falsely convicted of rape. Misidentification of Black men by White victims is the primary cause of the racial disparity. DNA testing has reduced the misidentification problem over the past decade.
Still, Black men sexually assaulting White women comprise a “a small minority” of cases but nearly half of the misidentifications that led to exonerations.
“A substantial number of the convictions that led to rape exonerations of Black defendants were marred by implicit biases, racially tainted official misconduct and, in some cases, explicit racism,” according to the report.
Even though Black and White Americans use illegal drugs at similar rates, innocent Black people are 19 times more likely than whites to be convicted of drug crimes, the researchers found. Racial profiling by the police is a significant factor in that disparity.
“We also know of dozens of groups of innocent defendants who were deliberately framed by police officers who planted drugs on them,” the report stated. “Almost all are Black people or other racial or ethnic minorities.”
From 1989 to October 2016, there were 1,900 known exonerations when the Registry released its first report in 2017. The number of exonerated innocent people skyrocketed to 3,200 by Aug. 8, 2022 who served an average of 12 years in prison. A running list of cases is available online.
