Self Para. | Genevieve Dupont
Summary; Olivier and Genevieve Dupont’s break up after he decided to leave Paris and head back to London to be Delphine’s bodyguard. He had to make the choice between her and his job, and he realised that he’d never really loved her. In turn, it’s been five years now, and sometimes he wonders about her. Misses her. Life had been so much more simple when he’d been in Paris.
Location: Paris, France. Two years ago.
‘‘Genevieve’‘ Olivier managed to whisper, walking into the kitchen of the home they shared. Had slowly became something so homely, he could almost feel as if he was back in London. Walls were littered with pictures, a vase with a crack from a game of charades that had gotten wild one night, or the sofa they’d bickered on ordering and had escalated to their first fight that they now laughed about at the dinner table they shared.
The second he said her name, she knew. The decision had been made and it was not one that she wanted to hear. Genevieve gulped, running a hand through her shiny blonde locks that fell in soft waves to the curve of her face. He’d never forget those baby blue hues becoming lined with silver, sucking her bottom lip between her teeth as to stop the tremble.
‘‘You’re going back to London, aren’t you.’‘ She managed to choke out, trying to stay still but breaking into a slow pace  while her hands rubbed down in leg. She had to keep moving, something she always did when she was upset beyond repair. He’d seen it when her father passed away from his years of service. Or when she’d found out she got her first parking ticket and Olivier hadn’t been able to stop laughing. She’d been furious.
‘‘My mother is growing old, my baby brother and I have a lot to work through and my job is moving there. I have the chance to do something great here, protecting Delphine.’‘
‘‘You mean putting yourself in the line for someone else's life? Bodyguarding is doing something great?’‘ She scoffed, which had Olivier shaking his head, sighing loudly.
‘‘You knew what my job was when you met me, your father worked for them too.’‘ Olivier was defensive, he didn’t want to fight. She’d been aware that he would leave if it came to it. Had even spoken about it with one another. And yet, here they were arguing about it again. He ran a hand down his face in frustration, hoping, praying it wouldn’t become this.
‘‘So why haven’t you asked me to come with you, then.’‘ Genevieve’s voice broke, before he could even say anything she was sobbing and all he could do was stand there with a look of horror etched into his features. He’d never thought she’d ask him that, hadn’t even thought of the possibility that she’d want to leave a place she loved so dearly. Away from her Mama.
He wished he didn’t have to do this. To break the heart of someone who’d always been so good to him. But there he stood watching one of the sweetest women he’d ever met break before him. Those sobs rushed through his core, feeling that pain shatter him apart.
‘‘Because---’‘ He stopped, unable to even say the words. She was on her knees before him, hands buried within her dainty hands and looked to the ceiling trying to control the fact that he was also on the verge of tears. For the words he was about to say would break her, but it was also breaking him apart.
‘‘Because I think you are an amazing woman, someone that I do not deserve. But someone who I care for deeply, but I am not in love with.’‘ The sobs stopped, she stared wide eyed at the floor. And then and there he knew he’d done something terrible. He watched her break. And it was all his fault because he’d never been able to fall in love with her. He had tried, had wanted it to work but it just hadn’t.
And then the sobs continued as he tried to comfort her but only to pushed away each attempt that was made. She’d been his best friend. Maybe that’s how they were meant to stay, but as he stood from his final attempt a single tear made it’s way down his cheek.
‘‘You’ll learn to let me go, Gen. I’m so sorry.’‘ And with that he left. And he’d told himself he’d never check up on her, for that was not fair. She deserved to get over him without Olivier being around or in the way.
What he didn’t count on...was her showing up in London.
To be continued...

Much love to this old lady whose reaction to Macron's Great Saucepan Ban of 2023 was to straight-up smuggle a saucepan in her purse past the police checkpoint to go clang it with a spoon near the president with renewed anger and determination.
Tumblr media
Protesters today greeted the Prime Minister on an official visit by banging their shoes against walls to make noise, so I wonder how long we'll still be allowed to wear shoes.
Tumblr media
(Joking about this is risky because after the saucepan protests on Monday, Le Gorafi (the Onion's French cousin) joked that the government would now take action to seize pans—and it became a reality on Thursday... We can't forget that our satirical news outlets are disproportionately affected by the bullshit inflation.)

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

What is your favourite Doctor Who story?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
Blink
Synopsis
In an abandoned house, the Weeping Angels wait. The only hope to stop them is a young woman named Sally Sparrow and her friend Larry Nightingale. The only catch: the Weeping Angels can move in the blink of an eye. To defeat the ruthless enemy — with only a half of a conversation from the Tenth Doctor as help — the one rule is this: don't turn your back, don't look away and don't blink!
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
City of Death
Synopsis
While taking in the sights of Paris in 1979, the Fourth Doctor and Romana sense that someone is tampering with time. Who is the mysterious Count Scarlioni? Why does he seem to have counterparts scattered through time? And just how many copies of the Mona Lisa did Leonardo da Vinci paint?
Propaganda
even if your not a classic who fan, you have seen moments from this, “wonderful butler, he’s so violent”, “youre a beautiful woman, probably”, “if you wanted an omelette I’d expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames, and an unconscious chef”. The location shooting, iconic, the music, iconic, the plot, so iconic I was once watching something (non doctor who) that referenced it as a fake historical event. Dare I say duggan is the greatest side character of all time. Romana’s outfit, the design of scaroth, the implication time lords can fly. it’s not my favourite overall, but its damn near close, it deserves AT LEAST the semi finals, AT LEAST. If you’ve not seen it or any classic who, go watch it, its so good, one of the best of the era. Also, how could I forget, the most watched episode on broadcast out of all of doctor who, including new who. (yes it was because itv was off the air due to strikes, but im glad its this episode that holds the record) (anonymous)

813 is one of my favourite Lupin stories for many reasons, one of these being that it's one of the only stories where Lupin has such an entourage, both with the law and outside of the law (even more so when you check the text originally published in the paper).
The Doudeville brothers, Marco, Jérôme, Charolais, Octave, etc vs. the Doudeville brothers (so funny having double agents playing both sides, and it's actually the same side lmao), Gourel, Formerie, Weber, Valenglay, etc... Interestingly, his relationships with representatives of the law are usually more developed (or at least depicted) than the ones with his accomplices. There's this moment with Valenglay at the end of the book that I especially love, right after Lupin learned the execution of Léon Massier :
Tumblr media
Lupin faints in front of the Président du Conseil, he's at his most vulnerable, and Valenglay does this??? I do believe that he does it mostly for political reasons and out of fear of a scandal, but idk, it's so interesting to me the way Leblanc wrote this; Valenglay was a fan of Lenormand, and not particularly hostile towards Lupin either, and he sees this broken man before him, and decides to just. take control. Get him back on his feet, but it almost reads like one of these instances where Lupin quasi-hypnotises people with his iron will except this time he's at the receiving end of it.
+ the way Lupin deals with police throughout the book is so flippant (as per usual mdr (except Gourel, rip)), mocking them at every turn and in the end it comes down to this... "I'm counting on you" seems very ambiguous to me, kinda condescending in a way? But also trusting. It just feels like Valenglay is sending one of his dogs to get the job done, which is downright humiliating for Lupin, but also he could have had him arrested right there and then so yknow 🤷

For the BCS French AU, what city in France do you think would be roughly equivalent to Albuquerque, New Mexico?
That's a good question! Foxgloveinthesun suggested Lille to be France's equivalent to Cicero or Albuquerque and I agree with their take:
"I could have seen them as Northern French : the “underdog” part of the country, more industrial and poor (their roots in Cicero gives that impression). Northern french are known as a rather friendly population as well as industrious, hard at work people. Very often taken forgranted or undermined, which would work for Jimmy. Closeness with belgium and the Netherlands makes it easy to set earlier experience with scams and drugs… Or maybe Lille would be the Albuquerque of this version! Cool with all the borders surrounding the area, the harbours and the hinterland and old crappy farms to replace the desert!"
Personally I think cities are especially difficult to transpose because the context and geography is always vastly different from place to place... And also because I have no idea what an American would have to say about Albuquerque. If I knew I'd be able to find a city with the same reputation/feeling but without this information it's hard to say for sure (and if you're an American feel free to tell me what ABQ feels like to you haha). But so far, Lille fits nicely imo. I also like the idea of BCS french AU taking place in Marseille, the climate feels closer to ABQ and it's also a city of contrasts... Much to think about!
