Eclipse Knight Diana is properly...underwhelming

Sooo, this is a Legends of Runeterra exclusive skin released a couple weeks ago, and the boundless excitement that overcame me once I realised that we would get a Diana skin in Coven/Eclipse universe, was swiftly snuffed out as soon as I laid eyes on the splash art.

Coven is a universe containing two rivaling aesthetics. One revolves around dark, high fashion, elegant witches as we see in the respective skins of Champions like Evelynn, and Morgana,

and the other encompasses a more medieval Knights fighting the darkness with the power of the Eclipse aka the devoured Primordial Sun God (a tad pretentious if you ask me, but well). Now depending on the solar or lunar aesthetic, the general tone is black armor with orange or blue details.

And somehow, Eclipse Knight Diana fails spectacularly at anything but lazily nodding toward the Lunar aesthetic of the Order. This skin is little but a glorified chroma of Diana's base form and has left my inner artist reeling.

Her armor comprises of jagged, sharp pieces of polished black metal in a pattern that does nothing to deviate from Diana's normal way of dress and only serves in making the armor seem uncomfortable and angular (Like what even is that thing around her neck, trying to parade as protection, and those bladed shoulder pads are more ostentatious than Irelia's, seeming more dysfunctional than intimidating.)

Her forearms and thighs are only clad in leather and are otherwise exposed, despite the over the top arm and knee protection. The polished silver accents upon the dark metal are a nice detail, though I feel it contradicts the black too much especially in the first splash art.

Speaking of which, what even IS her expression? She is going cross-eyed and her face is otherwise practically blank, the make up across her eyes making her look more like a racoon or a burglar, than a sophisticated warrior donning warpaint.

The fact that Leona is laying on the ground felled by Diana's blade is a wonderful detail that could nod to some lore update about their dynamic in this universe(perhaps? PLEASE).

Movement is also clunky; Diana is too still even though the world around her is moving, and it steals from the dynamic and the power of the piece (I think her base splash has a similar issue, but I am not sure.)

The blue in her armor is minimal and only appears in the form of a conspicuous glow emanating from the symbol on her chest armor, her arm guards and the headpiece. Now, don't get me wrong, Leona's armor also glows orange but it looks more natural, doesn't it?

A paragon of the Sun's light. And though her own design doesn't come without faults, it is certainly an upgrade from her base from, and fulfills its purpose successfully. I dare say it is actually a pretty good skin. (Note the kneeling Diana in the back, khopesh buried in the dirt? It gives Leona's expression a whole new layer- I love it).

For Diana I would have definitely gone for something less ostentatious, and perhaps completed that set of armor, going with polished sleek pieces of metal that look more like actual armor and less like metal accents on leather. The idea of the symbol burned in the middle of the chest piece is actually great, and could be used as a parallel to Leona (same design glowing blue, or even a symbol more akin to the Moon, pointing to them belonging in different divisions of the same order). Most importantly I think I would like to see a detail or two pointing towards her "Insubordination" within the order, seeing as she searches for the truth in defiance of the predetermined rules.

"In the name of eradicating evil, Kayle has committed an unspeakable transgression. We are the inheritors of her atrocity, the children of her eclipse, and only through rectification of the Sun-Eater's great sin may we find true righteousness."

Diana could potentially be the perfect connection between the Knights and the Coven. Perhaps even forsaking the Order completely and becoming entangled in the Coven's web (Since there is a primordial Sun there should be a Primordial Moon as well RIGHT???) which might ultimately spell her demise OR lead to us getting a proper Eclipse Diana Skin - with a few hints of coven and moon worship, say something resembling a bull, or bull horns (associated with Selene) or even a rabbit (Chinese culture and the Aztecs), that upgrades/turns to a full blown Coven skin with her worshiping the primordial Moon.

In any case, this is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY for Leona and Diana interactions in this universe. Morgana's and Leona's voice lines already indicate that the two love each other and freaking gosh their interactions can potentially be wonderful. ( GIVE US THE ANGST FILLED LEODIA CONTENT WE DESERVE)

With voice lines like "Thy love will perish Diana. And thou shalt remain. Alone. Forever."(Morgana)

and

"Brave ser knight. Torn between duty and love. Blind to the truth of thine order." (Morgana)

Not to mention the all time favorite

"In another life, I am so sorry Diana." (Leona)

Riot has already set up the basics for a marvelous story. Full of intrigue, unrest, lies and deception, the fate of the world balancing in a thread, Dark magic and forbidden love that either endures or perishes with the last of the Moon's light.

Needless to say, my own head is spewing one scenario after the other, and I will be really irritated and salty if they don't fix this poor excuse of a skin and accompany it with the appropriate voice lines that will actually acknowledge her bond with Leona (yes I am looking at you Winterblessed) and expand the existing story in the coven universe. Cause it has too much potential to be left like this.

Solari born under different sky/space fenomenon

As tribes that worship opposite celestial bodies both Lunari and Solari have their own superstitions regarding childbirth during certains spacial phenomenons.

Solari

The Solari worship the sun and the phenomenons that occur during the day.

Twilight/dawn:

Dawn, twilight, and dusk are transitional periods between day and night, symbolizing change, transformation, and the cyclical nature of existence. The birth of a baby during these times might be seen as embodying qualities of transition, adaptability, and potential for growth.

Sunrise:

Babies born at sunrise might be seen as heralding new beginnings, hope, and renewal. Solari associated sunrise with optimism, vitality, and the start of a new day. Therefore, babies born at this time are thouth to be bringers positive energy and blessings.High noon

High noon:

Represents the time when the sun is at its zenith, symbolizing strength, vitality, and clarity. Babies born at this time might be thought to inherit these qualities, such as being energetic, ambitious, or having strong leadership abilities. (Leona was a high noon baby).

Sunset:

Symbolizes the end of the day, transition, and reflection. Babies born at sunset might be seen as carrying traits of introspection, creativity, and emotional depth. Also associated with peace and tranquility, so babies born at this time might be thought to possess a calming presence.

Dusk:

The convergence of light and darkness can represent the harmony or balance between opposing forces. In a culture that worships the sun, the birth of a baby during these transitional periods might be viewed as auspicious, symbolizing the union of solar and lunar energies. Which may be viewed with disdain, but just as the Lunari accept those born with a little sun, the Solari will allow one born with a little moon to live among them.

"Golden Hour"

The "golden hour" of the day, which occurs shortly after sunrise or just before sunset when the sunlight is soft, warm, and diffused. A baby born during the golden hour might be seen as particularly blessed or divinely favored.

The golden hour represents a time of heightened spiritual energy and connection to the divine.

The birth of a baby during this sacred time might be interpreted as a sign of divine favor or blessing, symbolizing the alignment of the newborn's destiny with the radiant energies of the sun.

The golden hour is characterized by soft, ethereal light that is often associated with purity, enlightenment, and spiritual illumination. The birth of a baby during this time might be viewed as a symbolic manifestation of light entering the world, bringing clarity, warmth, and hope to the community.

Cloudy day

Both Solari and Lunari accept a little rain during a birth as it is seen as a symbol of life, however a cloudy day is seen as a bad omen as their celestial body of worship is hidden.

Rainy day

Even on cloudy or rainy days when the sun is not visible, the timing of a baby's birth can still hold symbolic significance.

Rain is often associated with fertility, cleansing, and renewal. Babies born on rainy days might be seen as being blessed with the purifying and life-giving properties of water, symbolizing growth, abundance, and emotional depth.

Night

Similar to the Lunari, babies born during the night will be treated as outcasts by the Solari, who may choose to abandon the newborn or even infanticide. Their situations is consider salvageable if it was a cloudy night or one with no moon, but their treatmeant of those children (+ albino children) is extremely harsh.

Solar eclipse

Babies born during solar eclipses were considered to be under a dark omen. It was believed that they might be cursed or destined to face hardships throughout their lives.

'im not mad im just dissapointed' Normalize being both MAD and DISSAPOINTED. Never tackled this one specific skin topic until today morning but i have to do it again cause it makes my blood boil.

Im mad and dissapointed at Riot with the decisions on mythic skins. Its 2023, about to be 2024. And we still have gendered skins. They never learn and most people sit their asses and chew what its given to them.

Ashen Knight Pyke was absolutely stunning. Since that first skin release the other skins from the same line went from bad to worse. But the idea was okay. With the whole Elden Ring release and the hype it was a good way to get people to either spend their mythic essence or to fall again for gacha just to collect mythic essence with the safe drops. There was a lot of inspirations to improve the skinline. But then let me remind you wich characters got into this skinline:

Pyke, Pantheon, Mordekaiser, Shen, Sylas.

Okay then, lets move to Crystalis Motus. Whats Crystalis Motus about? Well i dont have a fucking clue. Its something like debonair, but they fight, like debonair mages/protectors/etc. They have crystals, its like the trademark, the thing that keeps the skins recognizable and stuck together. The insipiration for this skinline, at least for me, is very unclear. They are like models, but not models cause they fight, but they have these pretty fabric clothings, but again, they are supposed to fight. And they have crystals...? Well, lets check the champions that got into this skinline at least for this year.

Leona, Taliyah, and its said that the next one will be Ashe.

Care to explain... Why? Why, at all? Why making another skinline? Ashen Knight was flickering but could've been better in the right hands, Crystalis Motus is literally ridiculous and wack. Male champions get knight themed skins that are edgy and spiritual and they get to fight kings? And female champions get what? Knights with crystals?? Cause crystals are girly now??????????

Why coudlnt Leona fit in Ashen Knights? If its because of her lunar eclipse skin, Taliyah could have been good too. I just dont understand why guys get buffy armors and girls get supermodel costume with silly crystal weaponery. Who in the meeting considered that this was a good idea?

¡Hello da’ everyone! Today in “Posts nobody asked for” *drum noises* Champions that I swear Twisted Wonderland characters would play if they played League of Legends (with skins included). Let’s go!

Lulu. Malleus really finds this little yordle ADORABLE, he overjoy himself whit the fae sorcerer laugh and likes to spam it, unfortunately for his teammates Lilia likes it too. He bought her dragon trainer skin cuz he find it amusing.

Galio. “OMG THIS ONE IS A GARGOYLE!!!” *instapick* That´s the history of how Malleus started playing Galio, I can bet that if Malleus could know him he would ask for his autograph and ask him a lot of things about gargoyles life while a confused Galio tries to explain the fae that hes not a gargoyle that indeed he doesn’t know what a gargoyle is. No skins cuz he ADORES Galio’s predeterminated gargoyle skin Birdio.

I think he would like to play simply because he’s just SO BAD playing. Like he, THE Malleus Draconia, finally found something he’s bad at? probably cuz it has something to do with technology, he finds that interesting. So he enjoy just playing to kill time, I think he would be ARAM main. He doesn’t get all of the toxic chat problems cuz he doesn’t know how to activate it, tho LMAO.

If MC plays to, oh lod, hes going to be a sucker for the game. They’re duo ❤️. Extra points if she’s good playing, like power couple. Also she defends him of toxic people and while she does it hes just there like 😊 1/10/5 KDA and he stole the kill LMAO

Lilia Vanrouge

Kled. He is fond of this very eloquent yordle and plays him very often, also he is astonished by all of Kled war titles. Loves Skarl. Bought his Count Kledula skin because he loves how Skarl looks.

Lilia. He finds amusing the name coincidence and thinks the inconsistensy between her appearance and personality in her Nightbringer skin hit the jackpot.

Silver

Leona. He really likes her gameplay, loves to protect his allies, also her voice calm him during the game he felt asleep once while playing her LOL. Lilia insisted in bought him Lunar Eclipse Leona because of their match silver hair.

Sebek Zigbolt

Poppy. He finds her SO CUTE (but you never heard me say that) also her admiration towards Garen reminds him of himself for Malleus. He got her Star Guardian skin, BUT YOU NEVER HER ME SAY THAT.

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts

Kayle reminds Riddle of the Queen of Hearts in her (so cool) way of punish the unfair. Iron Inquisitor Kayle fits him to perfection, even so, he really likes her predeterminated skin so he plays with it often.

Ace Trappola

I could bet that Ace is that Teemo player who, regardless he win or lose, spends the whole game spaming Teemo’s laugh just to tilt his enemies… and allies. Little Devil Teemo that’s it.

Deuce Spade

Veigar. Deuce’s mad side just love Veigar… and the way he EXPLODES his enemies. Final Boss Veigar rules.

Trey Clover

Senna. Since my point of view when Trey started playing he wanted to be helpful to his teammates mother hen so he mained support for a while with Senna. Short after he started to play Twisted Fate idk they look kinda similar. He thinks that skins are not necesary so he uses predeterminated skins.

Cater Diamond

Seraphine. I think Cater would really ADORE her in all ways. He bought her KDA skin and ALL of her merchandise; got really upset about all the hate that was trowed at her.

Savanaclaw

Leona Kingscolar

Sett. He really likes the whoole “criminal boss who’s known as half-beast bastard” thing, besides, he can easily identify himself in this (very sexy) vastaya, he thinks their lifes are kinda similar. Have all of his skins, but he don’t wanna admit his favourite one is Obsidian Dragon Sett because… y’a know dragon iugh.

Rakan. Leona finds very interesting how Rakan have… WAY TOO MUCH ENERGY, while he’s… well quite the complete oposite. He doesn’t play him to often tho because it drains his energy LMAO, also I think he wouldn’t like to play support cuz he’s not going to babysit some jerk, so he plays Rakan jungler anything but supp.He has IG Rakan, but also likes his predeterminated skin.

And NO he will not play Leona.

Jack Howl

Warwick. He reaaaally hates feeling like he MUST play Warwick just because all the wolf thing he’s OTP Warwick tho.

Ruggie Buchi

Cho’Gath. “Insatiable hunger hum? Sounds like me, I like it” I can imagine Ruggie saying that when he pick Cho’Gath as main. He have Shan Hai Scrolls Cho’Gath btw.

Ocasionally plays Warwick, but only with his hyena skin (laughs himself when Warwick does).

Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto

Tahm Kench. Are you going to tell me that Azul just dont picked an over sized demon toad who ‘helps’ other’s via WAY TO GOOD TO BE TRUE AGREEMENTS and then feed himself with their misery when they doesn’t pay their doubt to him and is known as “The River King” as main???? He have his coin emperor skin, but keeps some respect for his lore and plays with Tahm predeterminated skin often.

Jade Leech

Sivir went “I always take my toll, blood or gold” and Jade went ”Ok girl, you conviced me” and he picked her, that’s the history. He used his skills threaten someone to obtain an acount with Sivir Pax. Goes duo with Floyd in botlane.

Floyd Leech

Pyke. Floyd instapicked Pyke the moment he saw him in the store, all the “mad ‘monster’ who hunts down dudes on a list” thing captured him, he finds it amusind. He doesn’t care for skins, his enemies explode equally regardless he has done or not. Goes duo with Jade in botlane.

Lilia. He feels just so identified with her being afraid of everyone and everything just wanting to go back to her garden, JUST LIKE HIM! But also deeply admires her courage of leaving her place for an uper good. He bought both of her skins just when they where released, even though he doesn’t like Nightbringer Lilia because of doesn’t matches her kind and cute personality.

Ortho Shroud

Oriana. Just like his brother with Lilia, he feels identified with Orianna and plays her in every single lane. His big brother bought hi mall of her skins (even the legacy ones), but his favourite one is Orianna Star Guardian

Scarabia

Jamil Viper. Kayn Jamil thinks his backsotry and personality are just so cool! Also deeply comprehends Kayn internal fight with Rhaast. He farmed the whoole Night & Dawn evento so he could get his Prestige Nightbringer skin.

Kalim Al- Asim

Zoe. Kamil likes her energy and trickster personality, once and again he get little bit scared by few of her interactions with another champions into the game, but then comes back to normal and its all okay. Have all of her skins, but his favourite is Pool Party Zoe Amumu Also likes to play with Amumu! He really thinks this por mumy needs a hug and he would gladly give it to him UnU

Pomefiore

Evelynn. *Deep breath* Ok… Just look at them! THEY’RE PRACTICALLY TWINS!!!! That’s all I have to say. Have all of her skins but LOVE KDA Evelynn, I mean she just looks like the perfect DIVA.

Gwen. Also likes to play with Gwen, he just loves her mixed kind-crazy self and can we just talk about her sense of mode??!! He would LOVE to use an outfit made by Gwen! Also have all of her skins but ADORES her predeterminated skin.

Epel Felmier

Vex. The whole “emo teen” thing amuses him, really, he’s laughing…

Rook Hunt

Ashe. I really can see Rook chosing Ashe because he liked her personality, unlike most of LOL players he don’t thinks Ashe talking the WHOLE GAME annoying, on the contrary! He finds her voice and dialogues shoothing, he would LOVE to be bow pals with her! He really likes all of her skins, but above all he ADORES her Sherwood Forest skin.

Who would each of your characters main in League of Legends?

Now THIS is a fun question, especially considering how often I’ve turned to League for inspiration in my OCs.

Bellinor would without a doubt main Evelynn, not only does she SEVERELY vibe with the character, but the playstyle would be very exciting for her. Bellinor once HAD to hunt for her food in a forest and playing Evelynn jungle would simulate that excitement for her without the dangers or stress of actually hunting. I imagine she wouldn’t be much for video games in the first place so taking up this role and champion would make her go “oh hey wait maybe this is fun”.

Coprini was actually slightly inspired by Vex, but I think considering that she is (at least right now) a trickery cleric, I think it’d be Neeko! Maybe back and forth between Neeko and Vex…. She would enjoy utility mages because they can make funny and tricksy plays that delight her. Coprini might not always get kills or do her best, but she would have fun no matter what.

I’nayah would play any marksman class, she’s my Bard in FFXIV so shooty-shoot damage dealers are her thing. I imagine she’d probably be that very cocky and confident ADC who is immediately humbled by getting her ass kicked. She’ll get a pentakill… but die horribly in the process.

Jasper is a Fiora main, the kind that is terrifying good. Jasper deals with a lot of anxieties despite her finesse in many skills, so hyper focusing on the role of Fiora in a game would be perfect for her. As a rogue she’s an expert in tactical situations AND killing, aside from the fact she’s mostly a detective. I can just see her being that top laner that carries you without uttering a single word in chat because she was concentrating too hard, then says something really sweet in the end-game lobby and you’re just like “that 20-some kill Fiora who stomped us just wished me a good rest of my day, wtf”. You THINK she’s gonna be toxic but no she’s just happy to be here

Orona DEFINITELY mains support roles, tanks or healers, you name it. Specifically though, she would main Leona. And you wanna know why? I LITERALLY conceptualized Orona through the lunar eclipse Leona skin. Go ahead, look, they even have the same damn hairstyle. Anyways, her versatility and survivability would really appeal to Orona and I could see her being amazing when it comes to support roles and teamwork. That said…… I’m actually not sure if Orona would be GOOD at video games? Orona would probably only play exciting games with her close friends, whereas in her spare time she’d play SUUUPER chill games, simulators and farming games, things like The Wandering Village and The Sims. Probably also Stardew Valley but I could see it taking her a LONG time to get used to the combat and difficulty hike.

Vestas would main Lillia I think, the exciting pace and way she can rack up kills would be super fun for her. Also the themes of Lillia fit very well with what I’m trying to do for Vestas’ non-Homestuck iteration which I’m currently working on!

Ziva… is Vi, like, I 100% took inspiration for Ziva from Vi and Braum and a few others. Since Ziva was meant to be a VERY throwaway one-shot character, her inspirations were very obvious. I’ve tried to make her a bit more unique since then, seeing as I totally fell head over heels in love with her. Ziva would main Vi but could probably get away with just about any brusier champion, she’d love League and would probably carry REALLY hard. I could see her getting a bit overconfident near the end though, making mistakes that might lead to losing the game. She’s good, but she’s not perfect.

Is it the effect of the lunar eclipse, or just a salty werewolf nerd? You'll be the judge.

When I was making the blood moon piece, @kreiser-vii asked me if it was Maggie imitating Orochi Leona from KOF (which was the reference for the pose, and doubling down on it for this one) and getting clowned out, so I was like "maybe" and I worked in this edit side by side with the original although I posted that one first.

Also made an alt where I switched the panels and that led to a more hilariously tragic storyline
