SO. This all was started by me watching a theory video. In it someone said something about TotK being a closed loop (in reference to the time travel)—which I didn't agree with.

My reasoning, copied straight from my original ramble (with edits for grammar to make it easier to read):

The glyphs were supposedly made by ancient ppl after watching the dragons tears. But, they only appeared after Zelda time traveled

And, iirc, before the sword is sent back the light dragon is there. BUT she doesnt have the glowy light trails on her head yet.

Then I realized all that kinda falls apart bc tanondorf recognizes Zelda prior to her time traveling. BUT I can fix this.

Tangent time. I know this sounds really off-topic but I promise it eventually loops back to the original topic.

So, earlier today I was playing Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) with my sibling, and we were talking about Ravio's weapons being called "rental hammers" and how it would be funny if, afterwards when he went back to his own time, he put those hammers up for rent for stupid amounts of money because, quote, "they have blood from the enemies from the era of the fallen hero in their grains" because he couldn't get it out when he cleaned them and decided, fuck it. I can make bank from this. THAT turned into a conversation about Hyrule Warriors' non canon status, and I said something along the lines of, "if Hyrule Warriors was canon it could solve the timeline convergence problem."

My reasoning for that:

It literally has all three timelines. its the whole fucking plot

^ though they dont stay together, it easily explains references in BotW. and the rock salt thing*

(*The "rock salt thing" is the fact that BotW's item description for rock salt references Wind Waker and basically says salt deposits like this exist bc of the Great Sea, despite this Hyrule. not being underwater. which raises some questions!)

And speaking of the rock salt thing–

I also posed the idea that, if you still dont want to consider HW canon for fun, you could just explain it by the Passage of Time. And just time in general.

THIS theory's explanation:

After Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass (both the same Link) is Spirit Tracks. Spirit Tracks takes place 100 years after WW and PH, and both of those games are like. pretty important to it

Spirit Tracks does not take place in the ocean. (For the most part at least. I don't know much about spirit tracks.) Instead, it's in "New Hyrule", which was founded by the previous hero and Tetra.

^ Basically they found a big ass fucking island (aka. a continent) and were like Yeah this looks like a good place to reinstate the monarchy.

So, even though Hyrule gets flooded in the adult timeline, we still end up with a Hyrule on land in that same timeline.

Slight topic change. BotW (and by extension TotK) is at the end of the timeline. At least 10,100* years after whichever game was most recent, and then some more to account for the first appearance of the Calamity. (Now. I personally am a fan of the theory that the events of 10k years ago actually took place before Skyward Sword (and these events are the Imprisoning War talked about in that game) but for the purposes of this theory we're ignoring that possibility.) (*More on this later.)

That's a lotta fuckin time. A lot can change in that amount of time.

Who's to say all three timelines didn't eventually end up in the same place? Kinda like the evening out of chaos states or whatever, I dunno I'm not a physicist.

And then. this is the part that circles back ok. Hylia, who is the Goddess of Time, just smushed them all back together into one because fuck it man, they're close enough.

I explained this by saying basically, that-

"Time doesnt work like that" as an argument for anything Zelda related is nullified by the simple fact that Hylia is the Goddess of Time and Nayru has significant power over time as well, and since they're both deities they can do whatever the hell they want with it. If Zelda, who is only channeling the powers of the Goddess Hylia via her blood, which—I don't know how goddess-turned-mortal blood works but this is probably a reasonable assumption—is diluted over tens of thousands of years, can go back 10k years, easy peasy lemon squeezy, then Hylia her-fucking-self can do as she pleases.

So the end conclusion to this one is that time can in fact work like that if an ultra powerful goddess of time wants it to.

And thus we circle back. (omg just like time travel,)

Now. All of this is to explain this idea: TotK is a closed loop, but only kind of. "What the hell do you mean by this, Cat," you might be asking. Well. It's simple.

Zelda's presence (in the past) and effects (on the future of that past) are guaranteed; her actions are not.

And what do I mean by that?

I mean that Zelda is guaranteed to time travel, and she is guaranteed to lead to the sealing of Ganondorf via Rauru's hand. This is to ensure the survival of Hyrule as it is in order for this Zelda to get to the point of this time travel in the first place—likely influenced by Hylia or other goddess to be this way so things stay stable. If this Ganondorf were to succeed, then. well. Hyrule would be screwed, because he"s kinda fucking overpowered with the secret stone.

(Now is "later".) (By the way—I don't know the full lore of TotK, but I'm pretty sure this all has to happen before the first Calamity. I would assume that the Calamity only existed as it did because this Ganondorf was under the castle; that's why the Calamity comes from/starts at the castle every time. so. Zelda actually would've gone back a good bit more than 10k years. Cool!)

Now. Whatever Zelda does to make that happen and whatever she does after doesn’t super affect the survival and state of Hyrule, for whatever reason. So, those actions are not guaranteed. Hence the whole dragon and Master Sword thing—the first set of bullet points in this post.

Oh yeah, and the light dragon also doesn't exist until Zelda time travels. That, or she's up above the clouds with all the sky islands, (which is probably the case, given the carvings behind the rocks in the intro section,) but I like the idea that, while that explanation is true for her, to everyone else she just appeared in the sky—similarly to how the glyphs have history but weren't present or documented till the Upheaval.

So, yeah. TotK is a sort of closed loop and that big sentence up there is what I mean by that. I bow dramatically, the crowd goes wild, etc etc.

Okay I thought about this for a long time, cuz I WANTED to say the FlintMadi series or maybe hanahaki or petplay ot4. honorable mentions lol.

But I think the True answer is the John Silver backstory aka a stained glass variation of the truth.

I knew when writing it that like maybe a handful of ppl were EVER gonna engage with this for multiple stacking reasons: the dark subject matter, the underage archive warning, the huge amount of OCs, the Silver/OMC. Lotta death knells for readership lol

but guys I'm SO fucking proud of it and I've read basically every other Silver backstory and mine sort of stands alone in being the most extensive and focused example, by which I mean it doesn't venture into canon events, it tells its own story and is a true prequel (perhaps another death knell lmao) but yeah I'm just really proudddddddddddddd of that okay, I did SO MUCH historical research and historical WRITING isn't my strong suit but I killed it

oh also just to like, clarify, I subscribe to the "all and none" Silver backstory mindset. Meaning that, anything we can dream up could be correct and also there's no answer, these facts exist in my mind simultaneously. What they did in the show, leaving it up to the viewer, leaving it implicit? Yeah that was some fucking MASTERCRAFT and I don't mean to say that one *needs* a Silver backstory per se.

So yeah me writing it wasn't some be-all-end-all statement, but it Was an intensive character study exercise for why I thought he might turn out the way he did.

The recollection pained him and he slapped the side of the ship in anger. As usual, John was too late to recognize and appreciate anything good.

No. A rational voice pushed back. Solomon was a fool.

A mistake. It was a mistake to care about him, it was a mistake to care about anyone but yourself. Solomon had cared about John and what had been his reward? To die, to be forgotten, to be filled up with water and subsumed into the abyss.

In the end, boys like John, like Solomon, mattered to no one. Not to the crew of this ship, nor to the ferocious, unknowable sea, nor to the machinations and fates of the larger world. Boys like them had to make their own safety--carve a spot for themselves by whatever means necessary, be it force or duplicity. He'd learned, many times over, that caring too much for the well-being of other people was wholly incompatible with this goal.

I won't make their mistakes.

The next day it was business as usual for the crew of the Bridgewater; the storm had calmed and they weighed anchor. The drunken man who'd attacked John went unpunished. Indeed the entire event went unremarked upon, as none of the other crew asked after the missing cabin boy.

John had a surreal sense of deja vu; again, it was as if it hadn’t happened at all.

And isn’t that easier? To let it fade into irrelevance?

The other boys eyed the empty spot next to John, but said nothing. They were meek shadows, poor beaten things, colorless compared to all that had been his friend. Numbly, he completed his daily chores, all too aware of the heaviness of the workload. That which used to be split, yoked over two sets of shoulders to lessen the burden, was now his responsibility alone.

the best, most top tier, most BRILLIANT fangame of all time is a game by ekat n michael called pokemon ashen frost. bestie @frostbite-yinny can vouch for how amazing this game is. basically its a crime noir pokemon game that takes place in one huge ass city. you play as a detective with a swinub as a partner n the game is split into cases rather than gyms. my words arent enough to describe how high quality and genuis this game is. the story is deep n intricate n so beautifully told. n ohmygosh the SETTING. the city of riverview feels so,,, real. like i literally miss being there. the MUSIC too!!! its so jazzy n compliments the setting n story so well. n dont even get me STARTED on those CHARACTERS,,, you will get ATTATCHED. n i mean it. the end a the latest demo literally had me WEEPING. it features a talking protagonist which rlly helps you bond w the other characters. basically, ashen frost is a story abt people that takes place in the pokemon world, n thats what i adore abt it. i IMPLORE anyone who likes pokemon to play this game. im not saying that cause its my favorite, but bc to not play this game is literally a disservice to yourself. in fact i'll even give you a download link,,, here ya go

ahem. anywho. as for actual rom hacks, my favorite is easily pokemon fire red rocket edition. pokemon but you play as a member a team rocket!!! its such a breath a fresh air. a fun way to play through kanto, which is definitely needed seeing as most ppl have played through kanto 53629523 times. n the STORY??? goes HARD. theres a twist at the end that changes the way you see the story of red n blue. it takes the game from really great to fuckin BRILLIANT.

special shoutout to my first rom hack n the one that got me into all this,,, its a fire red hack by @shima-draws n its basically the story of fire red but your rival has a crush on you n flirts w you throughout the course a the game. my gateway drug n the reason i was able to play through kanto <3 her post abt it is here

another special special game is pokemon legends of the arena. another BRILLIANT n unique fangame that has you travelling the region while participating in a tournament rather than a gym challenge. amazing characters, a talking protagonist which is AWESOME, n an amazing soundtrack!!! the story is absolutely FANTASTIC too. n theres a breathtaking sidequest too. n theres like three different endings!!! which i love!! i got the true ending on the first try hehe ;))

i also cant help but love pokemon insurgence. as my first fangame i have a lotta nostalgia for it. look man, this ones FUN. its got super cool delta pokemon which are essentially regional forms before regional forms were regional forms. the story is a fun level of over the top n i love the inclusion of some a my favorite canon pokemon characters. also, this game made me cry. not bc a the story, but bc its fuckin HARD. n my ass was playing on NORMAL difficulty.

at the start of the book zetian and yizhi are besties who obviously have feelings for each other. zetian is poor while hes very rich so their friendship is kind of a secret and they meet in the woods which i think is cute, point is its p clear zetian tries to mantain a distance, not allowing herself to admit her feelings. for reasons i wont say zetian decided to become a concubine to one of the like bigger more badass guys even if she doesnt believe the propaganda and knows she might die, she only tells yizhi this the day before

he shows up at her house the next day begging her family to let him marry her?????? which is sweet because he wants to protect her but that isnt gonna work bestie sorry she's a woman w a mission

so anyway she goes to the concubine thing and shes surprisingly powerful "for a girl" which yeah thats a super common trope but shes so much more than just the strong protagonist. shes extremely powerful in every sense of the word imo and i love her so much and i wish the world hadnt been so cruel that she had to become so strong. but anyway the guy she wants to pilot w picks her. MAJOR SPOILER they have to pilot the mecha on day 1 cause they're under attack and uhhh she kills him lol lmao she drains her life force instead which supposedly is UNHEARD OF

so they cant just kill her off cause that'd look bad instead they send her to be the concubine of the strongest guy (all of his concubines die after 1 fight) and thats Li Shimin my beloved my little meow meow hes looked down on and kinda treated like an animal cause hes a criminal and the only reason he gets to be a pilot is his powerful qi. anyway shes forced to live w him and turns out hes just a lil guy. like hes very big and scary looking but hes just a tired man pls he needs a break. she fucking survived piloting w him which nobody expected. so now theres a lotta stuff going on i wont get into but some ppl arent happy w this duo cause they're both very powerful and not exactly happy to serve. and Shimin has a drink problem.

Oh that's such a hard question bc I've gotten a lot of sweet comments over the years! But one that sticks in my head from recently is one of my regulars for my commissions commented that he's appreciated seeing my art improve over the years thru the comms themselves and it made me really happy! Like aw shucks, you liked my art enough then and continue to enjoy it more as I improve and grow?! Golly! Wow!!

16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc

Planning and composition can be so hard esp if I need to rope everyone into a background!! Once I've gotten past the sketch I can usually get on with things smooth sailing but oh the planning... for comic pages it's hard to get the panel layouts to look good, I still struggle with that a lot too.

1.How did they first meet? they met when Millisecond got hired by Zomboss and joined the team ofc, but that was only eye contact. they truly met when Millisecond's handblades got broken, so he went to the team's mechanic, Rustbolt himself. While fixing his space stuff, they ended up chatting a ton even if it meant breaking Rusty from his introverted comfort. they didn't have much in common as they were total polar opposites but it was so fun for them to spend some time together so they decided to hang out some more, not only at job! slowly they realized they aren't that different from each other! 2.What was their first impression of each other? okay so like... Rustbolt was scared of Millisecond a bit, as he's the infamous assassin from space and thought he was going to be cold and distant, that's why he got scared to fix his stuff for the first time. Millisecond meanwhile thought Rustbolt was.. just strange, but he was fascinated by his engineering genius and thought he's got a lotta potential. So like, their first impressions were really mixed, but none of them realized that they're not what they look like. Milli turned out to be an absolutely loyal and caring individual while Rustbolt turned out to be just eccentric but loving!

5.Did either of them try to resist their feelings? yes. holy shit yes, and it was Rustbolt. He was the first one to get the crush, and he tried resisting his feelings but he just couldn't, Millisecond was in his head 24/7 living rent free and he couldn't stop it. That led to a lotta awkward shenanigans too. "Boy, don't be proud, it's okay, you're in love."

7.What would their lives be like if they had never met? Hmmm.. i'd say, pretty normal. I headcanon Rustbolt to be a Gay Demisexual-Demiromantic, so he wouldn't get bothered by having no one to love. He'd be fine by himself, but without Millisecond he'd probably never learn to be more calm and let his emotions go. Millisecond would pretty much still roam the space as an assassin but he'd never learn to take it easy and be slower. they fullfill each other a ton!!

3.What was their first kiss like?

Rustbolt says it was "the most romantic thing ever and when I touched his lips, i felt fireworks ignited deep inside me that resulted in love, I kissed roughly and it was amazing" while Millisecond says "Rustbolt was so fucking awkward he almost headbutted me instead of kissing me." their first kiss also happened when rustbolt invited Millisecond over to his place (which was in fact a date) and when he confessed he just pulled him closer to himself and did it!

6.What’s their relationship with each other’s families? Do they share a friend group?

OOH. i genuinely don't have any family headcanons for Rustbolt, all I can say is that Millisecond has a father, but he doesn't talk to him as he was mentally abusive and a huge bigot (Millisecond is a gay man). Rustbolt is VERY protective of his boyfriend because of that. They have a friend group tho! they like to hang out together with Game Bug or Neptuna. Millisecond also has like several friends from the dark side of the moon in space. Rustbolt likes them, says they're in fact very sweet even if they're wanted criminals from outer space. they make good cookies too.

2.What are their primary love languages?

Millisecond shows affection through actions and Rustbolt shows it thru words! but.... ohhhhh well.......... Millisecond's love language is fixing Rustbolt's armor and putting his bolts back while he's sitting there flustered, meanwhile Rustbolt LOVES Milli's hair and anytime he lets his hair down he just comes up to him and moves his fingers through it as it is extremely soft, and ALSO braids it sometimes. they also love to sit together snuggled up with one rambling on something and the other listening carefully and in love. it's mainly millisec who rambles on space and how much he wants to show the whole galaxy to his bf.

8.How do they celebrate holidays?

they eat brains and plants and kiss. nah i'm joking, they love to make gifts for each other. millisecond knows like everything about rustbolt so his gifts are always amazing, while rustbolt's are a bit of hit or miss, but milli treasures them nonetheless. usually they go on some trips too, just the two of them together, enjoying each other's company.

so like.. in short it's like... totally extroverted dude with an introverted dude and they're both huge losers and learn to love each other and full-fill each other. yeah abueub tysm for asking!!

back in the days of Fredbears Family Diner Jack worked as a nightgaurd and died in a springlock accident (I dont remember specifics of how-) but then The Real Fredbear told Jack he'd revive him as an undying corpse if he promised to save the kids that were being killed, now this is a HEFTY promise to make considering the basis of this fucking game is fnaf (which means lotta dead kiddin's) and thats already a fucking burden to carry on its own but the 2 main sides/routes (for the 1st 2 games the 3rd has more to it which ill explain whn i get there) you can take worsen it no matter what.

1: side with Dave (kill kids w/ him) you're breaking a serious promise and betraying a godly figure for starters, but even with that sure it might be fun and games for the first 2 games but you're still burdened by abandoning your promise and having to even fight The Real Fredbear in the 2nd game and then he kinda fucks with you emotionally so that's..yeah

2: do as you promised (save the kids) it's useless, no matter how many times you save children more will be killed at a rate which makes saving them feel impossible, it's an empty victory, you're unable to truely stop the killer and are forced to be in a cycle of false empty victory against a man who's truely just blinded by lies told by his long gone former friend, even if you could stop him; there's a bigger evil just outside your reach that wont leave you alone
