I'M SO HAPPY

so, last dnd session, it was finally revealed that Diego (my character) is the infamous masked killer that wears a golden mask, the Harlequin of Arca.

I've been trying to hide this reveal from the other players for a year, but finally he revealed his secret identity to the others when things got really ugly. I'm really excited to be able to share more info about him!!!

He's been operating as the Harlequin for over a decade, approx. His main targets are usually nobles from the good part of the capital (Arca Alta), and he only kills for money, meaning someone has to hire his services first. He hasn't had any contracts in the last few months, and when strange, magic-burned bodies started showing up near the port on the lower part of the city, people thought it was the Harlequin's doing.

the last straw was when someone tried to kill the current head of the Empire, and fingers were pointed at the Harlequin again. Frustrated, he decided to leave a message to the people, hanging a scarecrow fashioned after a corpse, with a note stating his innocence.

last session, the other party members were being accused of being involved with the Harlequin, so Diego had to intervene. We left the session at a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!!!

Mars Lore Masterpost (copied off Twitter before it kicks the bucket)

Her name was Butch.

When she was made, she was small, and was built to fight in illegal underground robot arenas for her creator’s profit. She was in this hellhole for about 14 years.

Butch lost a rigged fight, where she was put up against a large robot around her age, named Magnus, outside of her weight and classification. She was doomed to fail.

Her creator tossed her in the trash, abandoning her when she was fatally wounded, for a robot.

She was found by a man named John Cassidy, who would adopt her and bring her to her new home, his apartment connected to a Deli Restaurant he owned in the underground.

He taught Butch how to cook, how to take care of herself, how to clean, and how to trust, and even love :)

Once she turned 20, 6 years of being adopted, John offered to take her to the surface districts and sign her up for an education of her choosing.

He had been saving up money for her ever since they met, so she could have a future for herself.

Butch chose Nursing, to personally make up for all the harm she was forced to do when fighting.

Unfortunately when they went to register, they weren’t interested in a robot at 4ft tall who looks stapled and duct taped together!

So she went home, disappointed.

Venus, a robot woman who operated a bar with her ‘sisters’, overheard that there was a robot looking to enter the medical field but her body and past held her back.

So, Venus, being the generous woman she was, knew what she had to do.

At the bar, there used to be the whole solar system minus Earth.

There was a redhead, her name was Mars. But one day, after being assaulted by a patron at the bar, this Mars lost it and killed the patron.

Her soul was removed from the body, which was placed in storage, and was gotten rid of.

Robots in my lore are powered by crystals with human souls in them, so they can be swapped in and out of bodies with ease.

Venus knew they had a spare body, story and name, they could give to Butch, so she would have a clean state of life and a chance to mature.

Butch took the deal, now being named Mars “Butch” Cassidy. Now a mature and tough looking woman!

Mars was still turned away. Being a robot, and a woman? No robot woman has ever been able to graduate with anything remotely close to the health side of an education.

So she slammed the desk, and told the head honcho she didn’t care and would be there.

Mars ended up being the first female robot to be eligible for doing surgery, nursing, anything regarding caring for others, she now had the degree for each one, after a decade of hard work.

While she worked at the hospital in District 5, she met a man named Jack. He was in an accident and was paralyzed, and she was tasked with being his nurse.

She pushed past her fear of water to help him with Hydrotherapy, and the two developed a strong bond!

Additionally, there was a misunderstanding with another gang member which lead to a fight.

Mars was punched in the face very hard, causing her right eye to shatter. Her Metathesiophobia, the fear of change, prevents her from ever fixing it.

Mars had it rough, being pushed around and treated like a joke.

So, when she was offered to go with Jack and his gang as a Secretary and Medic? She took the offer and now works with him and his gang!

….Though, she does often get them into more trouble than needed.

So right now, in canon, Mars “Butch” Cassidy is 32 years old and lives in a café that’s used for a front for a gang that specialized in Illegal Arms Deals.

Her dad is still alive and well.

Her story is mostly to touch on xenophobia and sexism in a world where she’s more than needed.

I’ve done more lore for MARS since i drew their ref, and basically they exist in their own little reality bubble. Their puppet can go into actual reality, buuut it’s very eldritch and seeing it can invoke the Eldritch Forbidden Knowledge thing. Because of all this, MARS is very lonely and very bored.

Perception is Death is the solution to this! An easy way to interact with reality without frying some poor creature’s brain. The puppet itself was made by Fifth Act in exchange for a whole bunch of pearls hehe

shook talks way too much about her ocs, episode 1: generational trauma!!!!!

slight context: this literally only exists bc i was thinking about two of my ocs that are distant relatives, and kept forgetting how exactly they were related so i decided to draw out a family tree for my own reference

and then wrote a 4 page lore and info dump to accompany it, which could have been much longer tbh i definitely left some stuff out-

anyways here's the family tree, lore dump beneath the cut, enjoy(? i guess lol)

The Families The Tayasu are a long running lineage of yokai hunters who are known both for their skill in their craft and extreme prejudice against the non-humans they hunt. They are a primarily patriarchal line, with the eldest son typically taking over as head of the family, though there have been exceptions to this. Notable examples include the family's first head, Tayasu no Ayumi, who was a woman, and the current head, Tayasu Masahiko, who is the youngest out of his brothers. Typically any sons who do not become head of the family for whatever reason will either marry into other familys, taking on the surname of said other family in the process, or leave to pursue their craft on their own. Examples include Jun'ichi Inori and Tayasu Aiiro, who will be discussed more in depth later on. The line also seems to be more prone to developing supernatural abilities, though this is not true for all members and often takes the form simple sensing abilities rather than anything extraordinary.

The Inori are similarly a long running lineage who are believed to have descended from the Kami Inori (note: i will be italicizing his name so it's easier to tell when i'm actually referring to him), and serve as shrine maidens in his service. They are a matriarchal line, with every Inori to date having had at least one daughter, and succession is decided by which heirs are able to commune with Inori himself, though there have been cases in which none are able, in which the most capable candidate is often chosen. Due to the nature of their work, which often involves battling spirits, yokai, and other malicious entities, many of the Inori lineage die young. The oldest known head of the family was Inori Reina, who passed away at 66 after serving as the family head for much longer than usual due to her daughter, Inori Chika's, death at the age of only 23. All Inori are born with the inherent ability to sense non-humans, as well as a natural talent for spiritual and exorcism techniques, though their specific strengths will vary by individual.

The Individuals Inori Haruka was the daughter of Inori Chika. Her mother's death spawned a deep hatred of yokai within her. As a result, she nearly exclusively trained herself in combat, and married a heir of the Tayasu in the hopes of producing a child with exceptional yokai exterminating abilities. She never capable of hearing Inori's voice, a fact which drove her mad. Died when Inori Rei was 8.

Inori Jun'ichi was the eldest son of his generation of Tayasu. He married into the Inori family due to his lack of combat ability, though he quickly embraced their lifstyle and picked up some spiritual techniques. Despite, or perhaps because of, his lack of combat ability, he sought for his child to be exceptionally talented. Died when Inori Rei was 8

Inori Rei is the current Inori shrine maiden, as well as the youngest when taking over the position. Though she both claims to hate yokai and is exceptionally skilled with spiritual and exorcism techniques, as well as combat in general, she only goes after those who are actively causing trouble, and rarely ever truly exterminates them. She is however, very emotionally closed off and acts coldly towards most. Has been able to hear the voice of Inori since she was very young.

Inori Mars is the son of a craftsman who ran away from home at a young age in pursuit of the arcane arts. Though he has little to no natural magical talent, he has nonetheless become a powerhouse in his craft through a combination of hard work and supplemental devices of his own making. He and Inori Rei make a surprisingly good team.

Inori Shin is the next in the line of succession, and will be the first man to ever have the position. Though he is not as capable as his mother, he still has very strong natural abilities, as well as having a very good handle on said abilities for his age. He is calm and thoughtful, preferring pacifism when possible but willing to achieve peace through combat if need be. Is able to hear the voice of Inori, though less clearly than his mother.

Inori Yoku is the twin sister of Inori Shin and the first female Inori to not become a shrine maiden. This is due both due to her lack of desire to do so, as well as her inability to hear the voice of Inori. She is extremely energetic and tends to be obsessive, but has an incredible natural talent for magic. Likes to cause problems and play pranks.

Tayasu Aiiro is the middle son of his generation of Tayasu. He rejected the position of family head to pursue his craft of yokai hunting, though his natural coldness made him the less likely candidate regardless of his place in the order of succession and incredible natural combat ability. Has the ability to sense non-humans.

Tayasu Masahiko is the youngest son of his generation of Tayasu, and current head of the family. He is kind and generous to his fellow man, but becomes ruthless and unforgiving when dealing with non-humans. His combat prowess is exceptional, having even slain oni in the past, but his current focus is training his daughter to take over as head of the family. Has the ability to sense non-humans.

Tayasu Mieko is the eldest daughter of a well known family of martial artists who married into the Tayasu family. She is incredibly kind and loving, often going above and beyond for her family. She also has incredible combat prowess due to her upbringing, though prefers peace over violence. Has slight telekinetic abilities.

Tayasu Hatsue is the eldest child of the current generation of Tayasu, and next in line to be head of the family. This is due in no small part to the resemblance she bears to the family's original head, Tayasu no Ayumi, both physically and in demeanor. She is considered to be a prodigy, and is well loved due to her cheery demeanor. Surprisingly has no supernatural abilities.

Tayasu Hidemi is the middle child of the current generation of Tayasu. He has next to no combat ability, and cares more for romance than yokai extermination. He is kind but tends to come off as quite vain, and hopes to marry into a different influential family one day. Has the ability to sense how someone is truly feeling.

Tayasu Shino is the youngest child of the current Tayasu generation. She does not share the prejudice for non-humans that the rest of the Tayasu typically have, something which has led her family to entirely ignore her existence at the behest of her father. It is not known how most of them feel about this decision, but she has become cold and isn't very emotive as a result. She is very skilled at hand-to-hand combat, and has the highest potential for supernatural powers of any Tayasu to have ever existed. Primarily has psychic abilities like telekinesis and can sense non-humans, though her abilities are still developing.

this was the initial idea for the safeshiptember "AU" prompt that i 10000% want to revisit!! there are some VERY specific images that have stuck in my head in the 10-ish years since i had my initial "zombie oushirou" dream, and this is one of them; a very empty holding room, the only furniture being a medical bed with a thin cot for a mattress and cheap sheets and blankets, and scientists observing mars through windows and screens.

i couldn't quite get the pose right for what i wanted, and i couldn't find good photo reference to work from for this specific pose on such short notice, so in the end i switched gears and drew the one with us on the library stairs!

okay i have two background ideas for janejames

the first is the original, where they were an imperfect clone of the timeless child, made of a mix of human, shobogan and 'whatever species the timeless child was' dna. as a result, while they have similar properties to a time lord (such as regeneration, time sense and other abilities) they're closer to a normal human in terms of physiology (such as having only one heart). due to their clone 'siblings' dying of rapid cellular degeneration, they were taken to earth so they would slowly die. instead, they were adopted by sarah-jane smith and named james

the second is a new, much more confusing version - that being that instead of the doctor being experimented on by tecteun, janejames was. they're also tecteun's biological child, and instead of the doctor being the child she adopted in order to allow the shobogans to regenerate, they were instead tecteun's research partner. the doctor felt severe guilt for their role in the experiments on tecteun's child, and attempted to take the child with them when they left gallifrey. however - thanks to the clara echo who encouraged the first doctor to take a somewhat faulty tardis - the child was taken and brought to sarah-jane (implying that the first clara echo was aware of janejames' true origin)

tbh i prefer the first one, the second one is a little bit more complex and also makes the first doctor a lot older than he canonically is. although i can still keep the morbius doctors, implying that maybe the doctor got a little high on their own supply which could have led to them having multiple incarnations that they are unaware of

however, even with the first one i do imagine that 'renee clayton' aka future janejames aka the arbiter is the fugitive of the judoon, and she's the one that drops the reveal - but instead mentioning to jane v that "the doctor is hiding something from you". that something being the doctor's identity as the timeless child (which the doctor themselves is unaware of) or if i go with option two, the true circumstances of jane's birth

It brought back days of dodging arrows aimed for his back as his older sister laughed and shot bow after bow. He ran like hell.

“I figured it out. I did it. I’ve learned the secret.” Hyacinth chuckled, leaning down to his sister’s grave, laying down a mysterious pastry.

“I know.. how to control Death itself. I’ve uncovered the secret of the heavens. No one has wanted to listen to me though.. Hell.. I’m sure that even if they did. They wouldn’t want me to waste my discoveries upon you. Lord, some days, I find myself genuinely agreeing with them.” Hyacinth cried.

And it’s driven me to plain lunacy.” Hyacinth reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a worn out dented dagger. Their father had always kept it hidden away under the hardwood floor.

“This, my dear sister, is the Wondertart. My magnum opus. It’s truly beautiful. It.. controls the Astral Plane itself. It could bring you back. Back to me. Back to her.” He signed, tracing his finger along the blade’s damned edge.

“Lord who am I kidding? Not to me.. not to me..” he lamented.

“This creation, revolutionary as it is.. requires sacrifice. My darling sister..” Hyacinth stumbled, raising the dagger above his head. Each second feeling like a raging pound in his head.

“I.. am the sacrifice..”

The tart was blood soaked, almost as though it were the world’s singled handedly most gaudy inedible strawberry spread, laced with the soul of a broken man.

The tart would not be feasted upon, it would simply lay their, remaining fresh, even with age. It would be found by a ghost, the Lady of Treachery. 600 years in time. The treat’s origins unclear to her. Who in trade for her life, would give up her memories.

She was no longer Amaranth the Treacherous.

She was simply Amara.

There was no Calix Animi, no King, no kingdom, no betrayed confidants, no betrayed lover, no Devil, no Hyacinth.

She was simply a scared, lonely child.

An excerpt from ancient historical texts of Mars, specifically with regard to the advancement of medicine.

Fertility parasite--an alien organism that attaches itself to the host to make use of their reproductive system (adding features as needed, using the host's genome to reverse engineer what's missing) and begins replicating. It's a largely consensual process--though it's difficult for the organism to get consent before attaching, as it does not possess the ability to vocalize. Once it's attached, it can tap into the nervous system to read and send signals for communication. If the host is unwilling to participate in reproduction, the organism refrains, absorbs some nutrients, provides a biological service (added immunity to certain illnesses, temporary anti-cancer benefits, balancing the microbiome) and then separates within 30-50 cycles with no harm or inconvenience to the host. However, if it is determined that the host is consenting, reproduction proceeds. It is not at all uncommon for the host to only be consenting on a subconscious level, so they might be embarrassed to suddenly grow a visible tummy, or their physiology to shift in noticeable ways, meanwhile they are unwilling to admit that they're enjoying the process. There are those who enthusiastically consent to the process and even seek out the organisms for a few weeks, or even months, of some exotic fun. It's even possible--though rare--for a select few hosts to develop a strong enough bond with their guest organism that they decide to make the matter a permanent arrangement and become a lifetime breeder. Some even go so far as to jokingly refer to themselves as a 'queen' for the species. The organism in question has been found to be terribly helpful in the field of medicine as it is able to provide such generous benefits for the host. The fact that it has been terribly difficult to research the mechanisms they use to facilitate the benefits means that it continues to be the most feasible way to treat or even cure some conditions. So long as the organism is able to reproduce successfully, it's quite content to operate as a sort of panacea for any compatible host. Further research is required to determine if these permanent hosts are altered to such an extent that any offspring they have--not those sought by the guest organism--present with mutations or other forms of genome manipulation. There are concerns that prolonged contact and host organism reproduction could result in the emergence of a new variety of the species, or an entirely new species altogether.

A few thousand years of this and before you know it, like the mitochondria, the 'parasite' becomes part of the host, and they end up as one being. Now you know where all that gender fluid comes from.
