I think it’s time I introduce my doomed ancient yuri to the ninjago fandom. I’ll leave the story under the cut if anyone wants to read it 💜 it includes my Wojira backstory and why I draw Nyad as oni

Wojira is the younger, less powerful sister of firstbourne, I think. Wojira and Firstbourne we’re both chill with Oni, but Firstbourne was more Reserved about it . Like, she didn’t enforce weird rules or anything but she also . Didn’t stop her kids from being really awful.

Wojira spent more time with Oni than other Dragons. Even her kids (wind and water Dragons) were sort of weird about it. She didn’t really like the sort of power hoarding attitude of the other Dragons and decided to teach them a lesson about it.

When the first master was born she realized that Oni blood COULD bear elemental magic, and she took in two Oni kids (Nyad and her brother who I made up and haven’t named yet lmao) and gave them wind and water (separately) magic. And the other Dragons were VERY mad about this. They thought it was disgraceful.

They tried to get Firstbourne to banish her . Firstbourne refused and so her kids just all worked together to banish her instead. And sort of gave her a fucked up cursed eternal headache (in the amulets) Whoops . Nyad and her brother followed Wojira into the realm of Ninjago and tried to ease her pain for years but eventually it just sort of broke her mind and she started laying absolute waste to everything.

The FSM goes through his whole story (still figuring out details of it in my headcanons) and comes to Ninjago, desperate for a new home. And Nyad and her brother (I really need to name them DIFNDKFM) are scared of him at first. But he shows them his elemental magic and they realize he’s like them (Oni with elemental magic). And they bond over that and tell him about Wojira. The first master decides to help Nyad convince the Merlopians and Islanders to resist Wojira and hopefully bring peace to the realm.

Over several months they become good friends, and they often calm Nyad’s brother by making beautiful little worlds out of their elemental magic for him. And the FSM promises that one day Ninjago will be safe like these worlds, and they’ll all be able to live there.

And these very very lonely people have made a little family.

Of course, the Oni hunters are sent to track down the FSM, and Mystaké is the first to find them. She announces herself and demands the first master return with her. He begs to stay just long enough to make this world safe for the people there, and she reluctantly agrees when they show her the safe world they’re planning to build. It looks beautiful.

Mystaké joins their efforts, hoping to speed along the process of the first master’s return to the first realm, but she finds herself amazed by their magic and (worse) deeply fond of the little trio. She falls in love with Nyad, and starts letting herself indulge in their hopeful fantasies of a safe world where no one will find them. In this time, Nyad gives the FSM a name of his own to use when they have their safer world. Hajime.

When the preparations are as ready as they’ll ever be, the Battle of Nine Days begins. On the eighth day, Nyad’s little brother (who wasn’t even fighting) is struck near-fatally, and Nyad launches a risky attack to try and end the battle once and for all. It’s unsuccessful, but she realizes Wojira’s weak spot. Like in canon, she merges with the sea, desperate to give the others a chance at the world they’d all hoped for, and hoping that her brother could be saved if the battle ended and he could get proper help.

She knows she should kill Wojira, but she can’t bring herself to. And instead of killing her she decides to take the amulets, and send Wojira into a deep, painless sleep, hopefully eternal.

Hajime is devastated by Nyad’s death, and though Mystaké grieves her as well, she’s a lot more accustomed to death, and watches her go, surprised by the ache in her heart.

The brother lives, but passes on his element very soon after the events of the battle, sick of it’s consequence. Hajime builds the new world and appoints new masters, though he doesn’t know where the water and wind elements went (not his domain). Mystaké never even brings up the idea of taking Hajime back to the first realm again, and protects him from other hunters when she can. Hajime lives a long long time before choosing to pass on and find peace for himself. Mystake lives another thousand years, farming strange enchanted teas, occasionally a companion to Wu and Garmadon.

In Hunted, she confides in Lloyd that if or when she dies, she would like to be sunk into the sea where the battle took place (not that she tells him the story. Just the location), and Lloyd thinks it’s just some weird senile old lady talk. But when she does die at the hands of his father and the Sons of Garmadon in Hunted, Lloyd doesn’t get a chance to row her out until after March of the Oni.

She liked Lloyd. He was a lot like Hajime.

Undead Unluck Characters and Their Puns

This is gonna be a very long post so please bear with me, guys. I love languages and this is my domain so.

I will only add the appropriate information for the puns depending on how simple or complex it is.

List will be based on their negation ability reveals (or introductions, I'm inconsistent) up until the latest chapter so anime-onlys be warned!

Fūko Izumo (出雲風子, Izu-mo Fuu-ko)

Unluck (不運, fu-un)

Her pun is rather simple. The kanji 雲, meaning cloud, can be read as "un", while 風, meaning wind, is straightforward in the fact that it sounds similar to "fu" as in 不.

Simply put, her name can be read as "Fu-Un" just like her ability!

There's also the bonus cloud + wind combo.

Andy (アンディ, Andi)

Undead (アンデッド, andeddo)

This one is already explained by Fūko lol.

Void Volks (ボイド・ボルクス, Boido Borukusu)

Unavoidable

Avoid.

Gina Chamber (ジーナ • チェンバー, Jiina Chenbaa)

Unchange (アンチェンジ, anchenji)

Hers is actually a really fun one. It got my head scratching until I read the manga in Japanese lol.

Simply reverse it into "Chamber Gina" then cut out the first syllable of each name. "Chen" and "Ji", which becomes "Chenji" as in "Change"!

Rip Tristan (リップ • トリスタン, Rippu Torisutan)

Unrepair

Rip as in the "rip-air" in "repair".

Top Bull Sparx (トップ • ブル • スパークス, Toppu Buru Supaakusu)

Unstoppable

Stop.

Tatiana (タチアナ, Tachiana)

Untouchable (アンタッチャブル, antacchaburu)

"Tachi" in "Tachiana" is a pun for "Tacchi" as in "Touch"!

Chikara Shigeno (重野力, Shige-no Chikara)

Unmove (不動, fudou )

His is also very fun, I only noticed it during the undercover high school arc where his name was written in Ryo's notebook and Nico held it up.

The kanji for move is 動 which consists of the kanji 重 from his surname and 力 from his first name.

This one is really smart, actually.

Akira Kuno (久能明, ku-nou akira) / Un Anno (安野雲, an-no un)

Unknown (不明, fumei )

His first name of "Akira"'s kanji (明) can be read as "mei" as in "fumei".

Un Anno has already been explained within the story, it just sounds like "unknown".

Sean Datz (ション • ダッツ, shon dattsu)

Unseen

Sean looks like "seen", that's the whole pun. But the "depre-sean" and "damna-sean" jokes really get me lol.

Lucy (ルーシー, ruushii)

Unhealthy (アンヘルシー, anherushii)

Still debatable if it was a joke or she's an actual negator. But considering how she can astral project and see other's astral projection, and Nico (when his ability hasn't manifested) couldn't, it's more likely she is one.

"Ruushii" from "anherushii".

Nico Vorgeil (ニコ • フォーゲイル, niko fougeiru)

Unforgettable

Vorgeil sounds like Forget.

I honestly thought he was named Nico as in "Nicotine" because he smoked a lot. Turns out he was named after Nikola Tesla. Oops.

Ichico Nemuri (イチコ • ネムリ)

Unsleep

I love hers so much. Her name is written entirely in katakana instead of kanji, which means it can be read in multiple ways.

The "Ichi" in "Ichico" can be read as "one" as a counterpart to the "Ni" in "Nico" which can mean "two". Add them together, and you can get "three", which can be "Mi-tsu" and the "Mi" as in "Mico"!

Nemuri on its own can be read as "眠り", which means "to sleep" but it can also be read as a combination of "nemu" (sleeping) and "muri" (impossible/unreasonable) which means "unable to sleep".

Backs/Bunny (バックス, bakkusu)

Unback

We don't really have much info but it's obvious the "backs" is from "back".

Phil Hawkins (フィル • ホーキンス, firu houkinsu)

Unfeel (アンフィール, anfiiru )

Phil. Feel. Mind blown.

Tella (テラー, teraa )

Characters I haven't figured out the pun yet or unsure about:

• Shen Xiang (シェン • シアン, shen shian) - Untruth

I'd say it's because it sounds similar but not really to "shin" as in 真 meaning truth?

• Mui (ムイ) - Untruth

It could be "mu" as in "none"? Because she's not a negator or... Something else.

• Juiz d'Arc (ジュイズ • ダルク, juizu daruku) - Unjustice (アンジャスティス, anjasutizu)

I guess it's because of anjasutizu?? Not sure.

• Creed Deckard (クリード • デッカード, kuriido dekkaado) - Undecrease (デクリーズ, dekuriizu)

My best bet is "de" from his surname and "kurii" from his first name, but then that makes it "dekurii" instead. So idk.

• Sadako Kurusu (来栖貞子, Kuru-su Sada-ko) / Kururu (クルル) - Unchaste

I really don't know. Except maybe the "kuru" in her name means "arrive" as in her targets rushing onto her?

• Yusai (友才) - Undraw

Exposing myself as a fake fan because I have no idea.

• Isshin (一心) / Haruka Yamaoka (山岡春歌, yama-oka haru-ka)

I might be stupid.

• Billy Alfred (ビリー • アルフレッド, birii arufureddo) - Unfair/Unbelievable

The only possibility I could think of is because readers were told that his ability was "unbelievable". I can't really find a connection between his name and "unfair". Unless it's the fact that his name doesn't have a pun, hence breaking the status quo of having name puns, that makes it unfair. But maybe I'm just reaching.

• Feng Kowloon (ファン • クローン, fan kuroon) - Unfade

I keep on accidentally reading his name as "fan clone" and I can't figure out a pun (if that was even one) other than that...

• Latla Mirah (ラトラ • ミラー, ratora miraa) - Untrust (アントラスト, antorasuto)

It could be the "tora" in "ratora" as in "torasuto". But I'm not really sure.

• Enjin (円陣, en-jin) Unburn

Enjin sounds like "engine", yeah, but I can't really see the pun.

• Victor (ヴィクター, vikutaa) - Undead

I'm not even sure if there is a pun here other than "victor" as in "victory" as in "winner".

Bonus:

The logo for "Under" is literally just the 不 kanji flipped upside down.

Andy Yandere Headcannons

Been in love with Undead Unluck lately, and Andy and Fuuko’s dynamic is so funny it hurts. So what would Andy be like if he was a yandere?

Andy can’t die, no matter what. It’s been his dream to finally rest in peace, but after accidentally bumping into you on a street, his whole perspective changed. Maybe being undead isn’t so bad after all, if it means he can spend eternity with you.

Andy is the total protective type. Cooking? Let him handle the sharp cutlery. Going out? Let him tag along to protect you from any brutes. If he’s on a mission? You’re absolutely staying behind, and if you have to tag along you can bet your ass he’s next to you 24/7.

He’s super touchy too. He loves holding you in his arms, holding hands, wrapping his arm across your shoulder, and giving warm hugs. He won’t admit it, but having you close to him always has his heart go crazy. You’re like a drug he can’t get enough of. His reason to live after having none for so long.

If you’d let him, he wouldn’t mind going all the way with you.

Not really the jealous type. He’s confident no one can bring you happiness like he can, and if he has any rivals — hey, he can just take care of ‘em, can’t he? He’s strong for a reason.

If he sees you with another guy though or a girl too friendly with you, you can bet your ass he’ll be grilling you about who they are, how you know them, and what they are to you. If he doesn’t like what he hears? You’re in for a doozy. He’s lived longer than you have so he knows the true nature of people. Anyone he deems unsafe to be around, you can’t hang out with.

He’s so loud and brash, you frankly can’t ignore him. Try to give him the silent treatment and he’ll just kidnap you and hold you hostage in his arms until you give. He doesn’t play that way.

Definitely a stalker, but real conspicuous about it. He knows where you live, where you work, who your family is, what your hobbies are. He’ll straight up tell you he’s planted a tracker on your phone (for protective reasons) and that he’s installed security cameras around and inside your house. Ya know, for safety. Can’t have you getting kidnapped now.

The last shot of the opening theme being Fuuko lying in a bed of flowers and the first shot of the ending theme being Andy lying in a bed of flowers

Especially love that Fuuko is heavily shadowed while Andy is surrounded by a bright white

What's interesting is that the color of death in Western cultures is traditionally black while in Eastern it's traditionally white, but Fuuko, the Japanese character is the one with black hair and dark surroundings while Andy, the American (?), has white hair and is surrounded by white flowers. Perhaps this is more symbolic of Fuuko being surrounded by death while Andy is himself constantly experiencing death?

Or perhaps a symbol that both are more alive than they feel? If the Japanese one were dead, her color theme would be white, and if the American were dead, his color theme would be black, but because they are represented by the inverse, maybe death isn't as close to them as they've been led to think?

I'm sure there's a lot more symbolism buried in the flowers themselves, but I don't know flower language, so I am not equipped for that one

I can't draw fanart other then dumb things like this, tbh.

Rip probably wanted to make a nice couple dinner for the local immortal couple as a thanks for what they've done, but it turns out Latla isn't the best choice of assistant chef by the fact she was having Rip do all the cooking for them in college. (Leila is probably rushing in with a fire extinguisher and Enjin for back-up)

In hindsight, I realized that Gina and Sean would have been more appropriate, but by the time I did, I'd already drawn the piece so I have to accept my life choices.

Don't worry, Andy and Fuuko still had a nice date together with a dinner of convenience store sushi.

Okay, 13 seats, including Fuuko- this tells us a lot.

Sick was officially an Open quest- Rip wasn't part of the table at that point, and Latla still isn't.

The table evolves at 12 or 13 people- and one of these seats was a reward for Sick's quest.

There's like no way Granpasshin is still in the armor.

Let's go through it.

Burn is back. His reward is based on A Silent Voice.

Summer's reward is too generic for me to pinpoint a specific inspiration - maybe it's a Warhammer, for Harley Quinn?

Both First Ten reward the same thing of two roundtable seats, which is probably what Sick gave, too.

I predicted UMA Beast, but wasn't sure about Language, since Nico soloed Language last loop. I guess this just means either Language doesn't like to fight, or Nico's the fucking greatest.

I'm gonna go with Nico being the greatest.

Given that Summer's here, and Feng still isn't a member, that's gotta be where it happens. Are they gonna give Mui Untruth again?

Oh shit, the big one. How close are we to Ragnarök? It's gotta be pretty close. Anyway, Summer is a capture, so this is manageable. Wait, no, we killed Autumn earlier. What?

The meta pick. But also, Nico could take down a First Ten by himself.

Maybe turning into a semi-mindless zombie wouldn’t be so bad - at least you wouldn’t have to worry about doing a skin routine any more.

You also wouldn’t have to shout out your hopes and dreams and completely embarrass yourself in front of the trio.

67 seconds.

You sigh to yourself, arms crossed over your chest as you listen to Shen’s dream —a very grandiose one at that, but a part of you feels as if there’s a small possibility of it happening…or maybe that’s just your bias talking—, and three sets of eyes turn to you, waiting.

“Oh,” you start, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed at the attention. “I…I think I’m just gonna let the timer run out, guys. Don’t worry about me. Carry on.” You wave them off.

“Stop fuckin’ around, this isn’t a game.” Andy snaps, and you shoot him an annoyed look. The man that had come charging in with a rocket launcher, snagged a zombie-bride, and then proceeded to have the entirety of the zombie town participate in a brawl was telling you to stop fuckin’ around?

“Maybe you should try telling that to yourself, you half-dead per—” A head of blue hair is suddenly blocking your vision, and you blink as Shen crouches in front of you, his eyes trained on yours as he gives you a patient look.

“What’s going on?” His eyes flick between your steadily decreasing timer and your face. “Even if we kill Spoil, their ability won’t go away, you know. You’ll stay a zombie.”

“That’s fine,” you obstinately turn your nose up. “I’ve been thinking about switching up my look anywa—!” A scream is pulled from you when you’re suddenly snatched up into the air, and you look back to see Andy holding a fistful of your shirt, a maniacal grin on his face as he propels the both of you closer to spoil.

“You wanna be a zombie, eh? Then let me help speed up the process!” You recall how Andy had immediately spoiled when he got too close to the UMA, and a wave of panic washes over you as you’re forced to come face-to-face with your decision.

“W-Wait! I change my mind! Andy, I said—Andy!” He catapults you into the air, and you wonder for a brief second how the hell Fuuko could possibly get used to this.

Andy grins up at you, and your hands reach out for him as you go flying back down, only to be met with nothing as he cackles. “You know what to do if you don’t wanna die!”

Your gaze moves to Shen who’s watching on with a look of amusement, and your cheeks and ears burn as you slap your hands over your eyes.

Damn it all.

“I’ve gotta say, your dream is quite the lofty goal.”

You groan as you flip over in the infirmary’s bed. Not only had you been forced to shout your humiliating dream at the top of your lungs, but Andy had also failed to practice the same care and compassion he put into carrying Fuuko around, resulting in him breaking two of your ribs when his torso slammed into yours to keep you from going splat on the ground.

Maybe if I ignore him, he’ll go away - it’s wishful thinking, but it’s better than facing him after you loudly declared that your dream in life is to—

“I never saw myself getting married,” Shen muses, “but if it was to you…well, I don’t think I’d have too many complaints.” The heart monitor you’re hooked up to starts to beep wildly, and you make a noise of embarrassment before you’re hastily moving to pull the wires away from you.

You only manage to get one off before a pair of warm, strong hands are covering your own and pulling them down to rest in your lap, and your head snaps up to lock gazes with Shen, that signature smile ever present. “I hate you.”

“Yet you wanna marry me - you’re a strange one.” He breathes out a laugh, slightly leaning forward in his chair, and you go to turn your head only to find that you can’t.

“Shen, stop.”

“What?” You narrow your eyes at him, and he pouts before dropping his ability. “I don’t like when you hide that cute face of yours. Haven’t I told you that?” Yes, many times, and it’s only served in making you want to hide it even more to conceal your burning cheeks.

“Well, get used to not seeing it because I’m never showing it again once I get out of here.” You’ll go into hiding—put your ability to good use and vanish off the grid and lay low in the African jungles or something. You could live off the land; build a small house, start a garden, hunt for food, really just reconnect with nature while you waited for the world to end.

Yeah, that’ll do.

“Oh that won’t do,” Shen tsks as he shakes his head. “It won’t be much of a wedding if I can’t see your face.” The beeping goes haywire again, and you sputter as you shake your hands free from his grip.

“I-you-we’re not getting married!” The both of you hadn’t even kissed yet—you weren’t even in a relationship, not really! There was…something between the two of you, but with the possibility of being killed so high, no one was really eager to form such connections.

The idea of getting married to Shen had only come to you after hearing Andy announce that he was getting hitched, to a zombie of all things, and your mind had immediately conjured up images of you and Shen being the ones to tie the knot. It had been a silly thought, but your brain had latched onto it nonetheless in that instant.

“Yet.” He stresses, and then your hands are back in his, his fingers intertwining with yours. “We’ve got a lot of milestones to hit before we can finally tie the knot, after all.” He leans in a bit more, and your eyes widen as his flick down to your lips. “…I think now would be a good time to hit one of ‘em, don’t you?”

…you must have died. Andy hadn’t caught you at all and you had burst open on the ground - they were probably scooping your body parts up right now to give you a proper burial.

You must be in Heaven right now, and this is simply all just some kind of hallucination that God blessed the love-sick idiot with, and who were you to deny such a generous blessing?

“…yeah.”

His lips are soft against yours, incredibly soft, like pillows, and his scent wraps around you and squeezes you tight. You feel warm all over, and when one of his hands move to cup the side of your neck, you briefly wonder if you had went to Hell instead with how hot your skin burns.

His tongue runs along your bottom lip, prompting a gasp from you, and you feel him huff out a laugh through his nose before his tongue is making its way in. It’s rubs against yours, and then it’s running along the roof of your mouth and forcing you to abruptly pull back from the ticklish feeling.

The both of yours breathing is ragged, but that doesn’t stop either of you for going in again - the next kiss is messier, sloppier, chockfull of held back emotions that had been festering for months, and Shen curls an arm around your waist to tug you closer.

A sharp pain follows the action, and you wince through a groan as Shen immediately pulls back and moves his hand away from your side. “I’m sorry,” he pants, lips moving to press against your temple. “I got too caught up.”

“It’s okay.” So much for being in Heaven. “It’s just still really sore.” He hums, fingers softly tugging at the hospital gown you wear as his eyes take in your face. You take the chance to do the same, although you find your gaze focusing on his pink, puffy lips more than anything else.

They curve into a grin. “See something ya like?”

“No.” His fingers push into your cheeks.

“Your face is burning up. You sure you don’t see something you like? You positive? Maybe you want another kiss, huh?” He squishes your cheeks together, forcing your lips to pucker, and you make a noise of complaint before he’s pressing a quick kiss to your mouth. “And another, yeah?” He kisses you again, a loud, exaggerated ‘mwah’ sounding after, and you laugh as best you can with your cheeks squished together.

You don’t know if marriage is in the cards for you two, but even if it’s not, you think that just being with him as you are now is enough.

About Fuuko's long hair...

Despite having it both in her first appearance and current appearance, there's such a large difference between both situations.

At the start, she was so convinced that by existing, she endangers everyone around her. She wouldn't trust someone to do something like cut her hair because of this belief, even though she didn't even want to have long hair. And yet she was willing to continue being uncomfortable if it meant no one was going to get hurt.

She rejected herself from everything.

But this panel...

These words changed her. She held these words to her chest. She's not some God of Death. She's just human.

She turned her interpretation around on its head. She broke through the wall that stopped her all this time - fear of hurting others by existing.

For once, her existence wasn't a burden.

Maybe having long hair isn't a bad thing after all.
