Aria Sapphire and her sons are all hybrid Fairies and Mermaids.

The mermaid trait is automatic because when marrying into the family James became a merman and so obviously they are all mermaids. (Same goes with Jay Lambert and Sydney Sage now Lambert, though she was initially a mermaid and didn't become one, so that's why twins Graham and Melody are mermaids. I have to check if Melody's babies are mermaids too.)

But yeah, they are fairies. Fairies from the Fairies vs. Witches mod by SpinningPlumbob by the way! Not that being a mermaid or a fairy really comes in my gameplay storytelling right now since I don't really have an initial lore. But it might someday! Depends.

I might make canon soon that Aria really struggled with the Moonspell weakness, she got it shortly after giving birth to Alexander. This weakness makes it mandatory for her to be home early in the evening or living near the sea. Also Dahlia (Aria's mother) would turn into a mermaid EVERYTIME there would be water, she got this weakness in late adult stage.

James tried to help her and started researching mermaid mythology and also became a sea witch in the process but he never really made deals with anyone, he just has the ability to do so. Did he truly never...? (James might have a skeleton in the closet.)

(PS: would love to see a blog compiling all SQOTDs with the one from the day pinned! Though I actually missed one and didn't feel like doing it late because this is more of a daily thing, if there was also a weekly question/challenge that feels a bit more challenging but we can give time to answer properly, I would love it! And also making it free to answer with the tag so people can see the answers as well :D) (Also I might be the only one who selects some tags to follow I don't know)

The sky was covered and smoky, the air muggy as any old Louisiana night. It was nearing hurricane season, and Hannibal pushed aside sand bags on his slow March towards the bank of the bayou. His breathing never quickened, and his grip stayed tight on the arms of the man he was dragging. A horrible excuse for meat, the victim having quick reflexes meant the meat was tainted when he tried to fight back. A short struggle, but one he wished to never repeat, and with the man's head bouncing against the dirt with a muffled thud every step, Hannibal doubted he would ever have to.

His thick boots sank into the mud, stray grass sticking to the plastic, alerting him of his proximity to the water. He propped the man against an oak close to the water, draping his legs over the high roots and pulling a scalpel out of his back pocket. A waste of meat, but a canvas pulled through the mud could still display beauty. 

A single incision on the face, and he had a sudden idea of how to transform it into something greater. He'd never been particularly adept at drawing flowers, having an affection for portraits and architecture, but after a few botched sweeps of the knife he had a blooming garden, complete with vines and leaves climbing all the bare skin. It dripped scarlet where he'd pressed hard, and bruising where he'd attempted to hold the stiff body in place. It was less than he would do in future years, a quiet beauty he realized no one would even see. But he dragged his fingers through rosy skin and it brought a smile to his face nonetheless. 

"It's beautiful."

Hannibal had barely heard the breathless words before he was on his feet and tensing for what he expected to be a man behind him. Instead, the bayou splashed to his right and a mop of dark hair disappeared under the murky surface. He could still see their eyes, glowing blue and pale under the water.

His breath stuttered in his throat, tension leaking out of his stance when the man- the creature- raised his head until just his eyes were illuminating the bank. Thick, matted hair floated on the water around him like a dark halo, and scales reflecting his luminous eyes glittered. He was art and the Devil, Hannibal was sure. 

"How is it beautiful?" Hannibal asked. Telling the creature he was more beautiful than anything in creation was on the tip of his tongue, but he would get nowhere with flattery.

"The flowers, the execution, the mere idea of turning something mediocre into art. Not many people think to do that before dumping them." He crept closer to the bank, and perched close enough that Hannibal could see the webbing between his fingers, and the blood on his teeth. 

"You've seen people like me?" His grip tightened on his scalpel, and he resisted the urge to glance around the darkened landscape. The creature smiled, narrowing his eyes and setting one finger along his lip.

"No one quite like you. No one else leaves their crime scene in a three piece suit." He said, and pulled himself out of the water suddenly. Water dripped from his naked frame, somewhat toned but clearly alien, with scales covering his sides and only his stomach and chest left exposed. Little scars and nicks covered his arms, and a few scratches that looked to be from fishing lures. Hannibal pitied the poor man that had tried to reel in this creature. Hannibal stumbled back as he approached, pulling himself forward with his arms and leaving his tail (presumably) in the water. He watched in awe as he hauled the body towards himself. The creature caught his eye as he dipped his head towards the body. "Do you mind?"

Hannibal swallowed hard but kept his gaze vacant. He felt weak suddenly, his grip on the scalpel lessening now that he had a full view of the beast. He knew it was all a game to him, to unnerve and most likely kill him, but he was fascinated.

Staring was expected, and the creature seemed to be relishing in it as he lowered his mouth to feed. Sharp fangs and nails getting slicker by the second as he tore into the skin as if it were butter. The moonlight lit the scene in all its horrid glory, trees breaking up the light and tossing their world into shadow. 

Finally, he tore himself away from the ravaged corpse. He caught Hannibal's eye and deftly licked the blood from his fingers with a forked tongue. Blood dripped down his chin, pooling on his collarbone and turning his scales a muddy brown. There was an indescribable glint in his pure black eyes that Hannibal only hoped indicated interest rather than violence. 

"Thank you." He said, dropping his eyes and shifting his posture. He looked almost sheepish, and soft, and Hannibal knew it was a trick more than he knew the back of his hand. "For the meal."

"You're quite welcome. I would like something in return if you'd be willing." Hannibal twirled the scalpel between his fingers, feeling and movement coming back to him as the creature sunk back into the water. Blood trails still connected to his teeth dripped into the water and floated on the surface. Hannibal pulled his gaze back to the creature's eyes, while he had the audacity to grin and flash his fangs. 

"Of course. Whatever you need," he said, innuendo dripping from his lips. 

"Do I get to know the name of the one I feed?" Hannibal said. The creature paused, eyes flashing about the woods. A slight crease appeared in his brow.

"Will." He said shortly. He still wasn't meeting Hannibal's eyes, and sank further away with every passing second. He scowled and interrupted when Hannibal opened his mouth to respond, saying, "I know who you are. You're not as elusive as you think you are."

Hannibal smiled. "I suppose staying close to the water wasn't a good idea?" Will ducked his head to hide a grin. His hands strayed towards the bank, like he wanted to pull himself back in. 

"I wouldn't suppose you have any other meat on you?" Will asked hesitantly. His eyes flashed when they met Hannibal's. Hannibal felt something akin to love start to tighten around his heart. 

"Come with me."
