Actually lowkey thankful Damian didnt show up in Metal Fury anime because if he did with a similar redemption to the manga them unfunny mfs would be making videos called sum shit like "how the menace of metal masters got nerfed" (effects of rearrangements wearing off) "they did damian so dirty" or some fuckin bullshit and call him a crybaby or sumn [im reffering to this]
because god forbid if a character shows emotion in this show theyre weak nerfed stupid and annoying. hooooooly shit. [P.s. i thought of this bcs i saw someone say sumn like "name a bigger downgrade in mfb than flame byxis being replaced with spiral fox and twisted tempo being replaced with spiral lyre" like the powerscaling makes you completely forget about the plot apparently. you wanted bro to stay as sephiroth forever? what the fuck]

Okay so as of the beginning of Metal Masters, LDrago is more or less stated to be the first Beyblade ever created, thousands of years old, implied to have once belonged to Moses, carved from a Meteorite. Galaxy and Storm Pegasus are also ancient, though not as ancient, and were explicitly forged with the purpose of countering LDrago. Every other beyblade is said to he derivative of Storm Pegasus. We know that Storm and Galaxy Pegasus have always been Metal Fight Beyblades. This begs the question.

Mayblade Day 5: Rivals
I didn’t have time to do a drawing for this one (stupid sickness) but I still wanted to shine the spotlight on my favourite rival dynamic in any anime series, Gingka and Kyoya.
I have a feeling most of the submissions for this prompt are gonna be these two so I’m probably being unoriginal with this but there’s a reason a lot of people like this dynamic. It’s well defined, it’s one of the most consistent things across the entirety of the show, be a major part of every season of the show. A lot of other rival dynamics (Yugioh in particular) have their rivals fizzle out or hardly acknowledge each other after a while. It’s not delved into much. Gingka and Kyoya don’t have this issue. Their rivalry begins in the very first episode, with Kyoya being the first character to battle on Gingka’s level.
This dynamic remains consistent though not unchanged over the course of the series. After their second battle, their dynamic changes from one of enemies to one of friendly rivals. They want to best each other in their battles but will fight on each other’s side for the greater good if needed. FOR EXAMPLE
Kyoya accompanying Gingka to the Dark Nebula
Him going with the others to look for Gingka when he disappeared to Koma Village
Kyoya coming to Gingka’s aid in the fight against Hades Inc
Accompanying him to find the Legendary Bladers
Then after seemingly abandoning them, Kyoya returning to the group to help in the battles in the Mayan temple
And finally in the final battle, Kyoya is the first one to offer his power to Gingka, saying Gingka made him the person he is today and that he has always been the centre of the group.
Their dynamic is so important to the show that their next rematch of many is the final note the series ends on.
This is, in my opinion, the best way to write rival characters. Kyoya is a little overly obsessed with Gingka, especially as the series goes on, but their dynamic is consistently good. It never feels stale to me. Their battles evolve overtime, getting more and more intense with higher stakes and closer calls. And they’re able to have these continuous battles without it feeling repetitive for one simple reason: Kyoya and Gingka are friends. They start as enemies and their dynamic primarily focuses on their rivalry as bladers and how much they want to defeat each other. However, after their first battle, this desire always seemed more like friendly competition rather than any sort of contempt and anger, as, like I cited in the previous examples, Kyoya and Gingka actually care about each other and show that care multiple times throughout the series.
A really notable example to me is this scene right before Kyoya’s big battle with Ryuga:
At this point in the story, the audience and the characters know that Gingka is the only one who can defeat Ryuga and they have seen what happens to those who lose to him. But Gingka doesn’t try to talk Kyoya out of battling Ryuga (likely knowing Kyoya won’t back down anyway) Instead he offers Kyoya his support and seems to whole-heartedly believe that Kyoya can and will win. Kyoya acknowledges Gingka’s with a supportive fist bump and smile before going to face Ryuga. It’s a simple but really sweet moment.
Kyoya rarely allows others to touch him, even more rarely being the one to instigate it. The only other times are him accepting a hug from Benkei.
And his fist bumps with Nile.
Kyoya isn’t the type to outright admit he cares for people, that’s just characteristic of his rival archetype, but these rare moments of physical contact, along with the moments I mentioned of Kyoya battling on Gingka’s side, are his way of showing that he cares. It’s also a lot more than I’ve seen with any other rival characters. (Yugioh, I love you, but all your rivalries are either forgotten or are solely rivals without any friendship. Yuma and Shark are the closest to this friendship/rivalry idea but even they felt more like warriors on opposite sides of a battlefield than supportive friends at times.)
This analysis was kinda all over the place so I’m gonna end it off with Kyoya’s speech to Gingka at the end of Fury because it’s honestly really sweet and emotional
“You know, when I first ran into you, I learned all about the humiliation of defeat. Since then, I’ve been honing my skills with the thought of defeating you as my one and only goal. I don’t really want to admit it but you are the reason I am who I am today.”
