Annular Solar Eclipse, October 14, 2023, from New Mexico USA

I had to wake up super early and drive for a few hours but I got to see the annular solar eclipse at totality!

When I got to see the 2017 total eclipse it got completely dark, but because the moon is at apogee and farther away than usual it's not quiiiite big enough in angular size to cover the whole sun this time, and it didn't get completely dark. It was still noticeably darker and eerie twilight though, which is the coolest part about being in the path of totality yourself instead of watching a livestream or looking at other people's (much fancier) photos.

There were some thin clouds so my photos are a bit variable but I had a lot of fun on my astronomy day trip adventure today :D

Bonus: Earlier partial eclipse photo that shows at least one sunspot (there might be another smaller one near the edge of the moon?)

first of all "mac/orchard" is crazy i dunno how you did that but i dig it. second of all!! :DD i think discord is some kind of genderfuck, the dude's the embodiment of chaos, so he's only a "guy" in the same way like. i dunno a coffee mug is. Mac's a trans woman in my silly little canon and Spike is based off of the nonbinary spike design from NONEXISTENT MEET CUTE (IDLYA) by Vylet Pony, an absolute banger of a song that examines Spikes feelings towards Rarity. @cassettepony did the art for it and she fucking killed it, so the Nonbinary Spike Design is just the default design i have for older spike now in Punkitt Lore™

The door to Valerie's office clicks closed, then Avery is alone. Exhaustion weighs on her shoulders and mind, and static sparkles throughout her thoughts. Why am I so restless? She's just another person like me, why did I fall all over myself like that?

Her thoughts seem to reverberate around the empty hallway.

Only ten seconds since and already her heart twists, her body cringes, and her face flushes red. Acted just like a little kid meeting a hero for the first time. Embarrassing.

She forces herself to start walking.

Past the breakroom, past a maintenance hallway, until only a set of double doors stand between her and the rest of the aquarium. She leans in, ready to push through, but the door swings inwards. Her head plonks off the steel and swarming fireflies explode into a frenzy behind clenching eyelids. She slumps against a wall, clutching her head. "Gah! Ooh, ow, ow, ow, ow."

A voice calls out through the expanse of stars. "I'm sorry about that. Are you alright there, lass?"

Avery massages the top of her head; a raw spot, a slowly forming lump now only the size of a marble. "Fine. Fine. I'm, fine." She says.

return of the raccoon thief!

aka i’ve never actually used one of the security features on my security camera before tonight

so after i left for work my box of groceries was delivered (thanks fedex you are ALWAYS late) and it’s cold out so whatever, it can stay on my porch tonight, delivered groceries have mostly lasted the night before (last time i had this happen it was SUPER cold and some of the veg got slightly frozen)

tonight the (alleged) dish thief has returned and managed to pry open my grocery box, scaring away the cat in the process. eventually he gave up, leaving for a while. cat came back, then a few hours later the raccoon returned! this time when the cat started to run off it spooked the raccoon too, who ended up leaving first. cat went back into her little house, saved the day, saved the groceries.

the THIRD time the thief came back with a friend, and the cat did not stick around, and they seem very determined to get their little hands on my food, so I used the siren feature on my security camera. amazingly, it worked! i have successfully scared them off twice now, but i might have to keep an eye on the camera for the rest of the night D:

sorry food delivery service, this is an unsatisfactory delivery, it is NOT fuzzy thief-proof, and now my stray porch cat is off somewhere in the snowy cold hiding instead of in her warm cat condo
