I was glad to have the chance to talk with you again at the AHA conference. Your idea that the Musee D’Orsay Tomlinson painting is in fact not a self-portrait is an intriguing one, and I may have discovered something that will have a bearing on that theory.

Some background: as you may remember, I’ve been researching for a book I’m writing about Harry Styles. I’ve been in communication with Styles’ last living descendant, who is in possession of a trunk that her family believed to have belonged to Styles himself. It held some personal items she presumes to be his, including two unmounted paintings and a small collection of letters.

Upon spending the last few days in Provins studying these items, I believe there to be a connection between Tomlinson and Styles, and I would very much like your opinion.

Hi honey. Oh, I don’t know many outside of the Social Media AUs, but you should check those because there are a bunch with the boys sending emails and tweets back and forth. Beyond that, I love this bunch where they write letters back and forth:

Danger I Can’t Hide by CelticSky (E, 227K) This one’s got all the tension and drama you’d expect of a World War II story—life and death high stakes, friends and lovers unexpectedly torn apart, battles and heroism, plus the added stakes of classism and homophobia—then add a slow burn, high risk, scorching love affair spanning years. If you want a story that’s complex and fantastically researched, plus lovers to root for, read it. It’s long. But I couldn’t put it down.

Time Will Tell, I Suppose, Or At Least These Pages Will by lets_get_messi (GA, 5K) I just love this fic. It’s funny, well-paced, really touching, and I’ve read it multiple times.

a fire in us by @hereforlou (E, 12K) I love this sweet, lighthearted fic. Louis is penpals with an idealistic and romantic Harry. The soulmate time stamp is a clever twist that adds to the tension. Another one I’ve read more than once. Link is to a download.

210 Days by cherrystreet (E, 16K) Another really emotional fic (this author really likes to put us through it) and a beautifully written one using letters sent back and forth between Harry on deployment and Louis back home.

No One Like You by myownspark / @myownsparknow (M, 20K) This author writes so beautifully, I would probably read anything they write. This one is so unique and pulled me in, immediately. Harry and Louis are both artists who find themselves on opposite sides of shifting artistic opinions in this moving historical fic.

I was glad to have the chance to talk with you again at the AHA conference. Your idea that the Musee D’Orsay Tomlinson painting is in fact not a self-portrait is an intriguing one, and I may have discovered something that will have a bearing on that theory.

Some background: as you may remember, I’ve been researching for a book I’m writing about Harry Styles. I’ve been in communication with Styles’ last living descendant, who is in possession of a trunk that her family believed to have belonged to Styles himself. It held some personal items she presumes to be his, including two unmounted paintings and a small collection of letters.

Upon spending the last few days in Provins studying these items, I believe there to be a connection between Tomlinson and Styles, and I would very much like your opinion.

"Louis lives in South Village!"

"Louis!" Amanda called across the distance between their round tables.

Fucking hell.

Louis tried his best to seem surprised at the sound of his name, uttering a reluctant, "Yeah?".

"Harry here has gotten his car damaged and has to take a taxi to work every day." Harry seemed to shrink in his seat, head hanging down a bit as if to cover himself. "Says he lives in South Village. Can't you pick him up on your way?" she asked with a smile, oblivious to both Louis' and Harry's apparent discomfort.

"Sure, I can pick you up."

OR, Harry's the new math teacher who loves to make new friends and Louis hates to let new people in his life. As they say, opposites attract.

The characters unravel in more ways than one in this fic. Peel back their layers and you'll be surprised what you find. Even when you get to the end, it's not that what happens is so ambiguous, it's how the characters deal with the knowledge of what really happened.

I do actually! Obviously I have many favorite fics, but the one I call my "soulmate" fic is this one (I don't mean it's a soulmate au, I mean the one that speaks directly to me and feels as though it was written just for me...it wasn't by the way lol)

I'll never forget reading it when it was still anonymous for the summer exchange and I was up in the middle of the night texting my best friend and freaking out and I just wanted to scream and run around my house I loved it so much.

Hmmm. That one is a bit unique. It reads almost like a historical fic, but it’s not. It’s got rich boy/poor boy tension. It’s got characters with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. And it’s got a very particular writing style. 

I think because of all of that, the best I can do is offer you a bunch of different fics that give me the general vibe, but they’re not necessarily going to be “like” that fic. 

Victorian Boy by audreyheart (E, 101K) For anyone that hasn’t read this yet, it’s delightfully unique and layered with a little of everything – hate to love, romance, intrigue, action, betrayal, sex, and more. It’s well written, sexy – in a wonderfully Victorian way, and keeps you guessing.

Constant Debauchery by Blake (E, 19K) Yes, yes, I know. I’ve probably recommended this 20 times. But have you read it yet? Anyway…Edwardian setting, uni ABO (Alpha/Alpha) fic. Gorgeous mood setting, I’ve said before that it reads like a Merchant Ivory film looks…just gorgeous. There’s a similar sense of repression and uncertainty about flouting societal expectations, and a character who appears one way on the surface, but underneath is quite different. I love this one, I’ve read it a number of times.

Little Technicolor Things by scary_crow (M, 72K) This is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of writing I have ever read and it is an absolutely travesty that it’s not being talked about every day. This fic is gorgeous and poetic and romantic and heartbreaking and an explosion of metaphoric images and everything I never knew I needed but now that I have it I want to read it over and over and over. 

Sodalite & Adventurine by @forreveries​ (E, 81K) The time period isn’t specified, but it’s a gay pirate adventure that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Amazing chemistry, great world building, super sexy smut, and beautiful writing. Do yourself a favor and read it!

No One Like You by myownspark / @myownsparknow​ (M, 20K) This author writes so beautifully, I would probably read anything they write. This one is so unique and pulled me in, immediately. Harry and Louis are both artists who find themselves on opposite sides of shifting artistic opinions in this moving historical fic.

Run Like the Devil by Benzos (E, 138K) I tend to think of this fic almost more of a Louis character study, and although it’s pretty OOC, it’s still such good writing and such a compelling story. Trauma, PTSD, Bad parenting and more. Harry and Louis somehow take care of each other and there’s a 19K second part that continues the story. 

Lightening Strikes Twice by @dinosaursmate (E, 105K) It’s not often that I read a 100+K fic multiple times, but this one is worth it. It’s one of my favorites from this author, and a favorite all around. This one is an epic love story spanning decades and massive life changes. It’s sexy and well-written, and so touching, and so fulfilling in many ways. 

Three Days Underwater by theteapirate (E, 10K) This is really a beautiful fic but I’m warning you, it’s got an open ending so if you can’t deal with that, don’t read it. But if you can….wow, it’s lovely.

Coup de Foudre by angelwarm (M, 15K) The characters (particularly Louis) are pretty OOC, but god this fic is gorgeous. After I read it I just sat there not knowing what to do with myself. It’s sad and hopeful and just gorgeously written.

Young & Beautiful by velvetoscar (M, 227K) Again, mental illness isn’t a main aspect of the fic, but both Harry and Louis (and their extended families) deal with various aspects of it and, again, it informs their behaviors. This fic is beautifully wordy and descriptive (which isn’t for everyone) and the characters are probably pretty OOC, but I just love it.

So Much Left to Say by myownspark (M, 7k)

This isn't tagged as Hurt/Comfort, but the summary says it's about cheering someone up, so I think it fits here. I think they deal with their emotions maturely, but still realistically, for the age they're set in (teenagers).

In Dreams by dolce_piccante (M, 23k)

I feel like most fic readers know who the author is LOL so my apologies if you’ve already read this! But the sweet yet tentative relationship that nurtures between Harry and Louis in this fic is so soft and gentle. I always enjoy characterizations like these, the kind of wide-eyed wonder when you find someone who loves you.

you’re the feeling that i can’t put down by localopa (NR, 2k)

Very short exes-to-lovers that still made my heart break for these two. In this fic, even when they’re separated, Harry still finds comfort in Louis, which is what kicks the plot into motion. You can’t keep these two away from one another, truly.
