why do they call them "normal card girls" when there's nothing normal about them. there is something wrong with every one of these girlies

boring nerd answer for those 'lucky 10,000' love live fans, because I can't help myself: they call them Normal card girls because that's the card rarity they initially appeared in, in contrast to the Rare, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, and future Super Super Rare card girls who at the time were just μ's (support cards were not present at release; the smile R alpaca was added roughly a month in). though the 'Normal card girls' would eventually get SSR cards in 2018, and, later, a select few UR cards in 2021, for a very long time all they had usable in the game were Normal rarity cards. due to being from different schools with no official unit names to speak of, all 54 (later 51-54) were lumped in together under the N card girl banner. it's not how ordinary they are; it's how rare they are to scout in comparison to the main-cast idols.

FUN nerd answer (I can't take the nerd out): staff are deluding themselves and have been for years. this is why other gacha systems use things like star counts alone (there were stars on the cards in sif1 but people rarely referred to them or even noticed them) instead of R/SR/UR/etc. the N girls of llsif are the strangest collection of ladies I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know, even the more ordinary/plain-looking ones. fifty-fucking-four (or fifty-fucking-one) and each and every one of them is special in. a few ways. to put it nicely. anyone saying they're boring is either ignorant or lying.
