all things yet to come by @soysauceharry is one of my favorite fics i've ever read and i come back to it often, amina has such a way with language and love stories that make it such a delightful re-read, i find new favorite lines all the time. check out their masterlist bc you really cant go wrong there

a soft place to fall by @hslllot i love it so much and can't wait to read more of it. it is such a lovely world to dive into, a perfect escape and shan has a really lovely way with the characters. check out their masterlist bc its toooo too good

cavalcami by @all-things-fic ohhh i just adore liz's writing it was actually impossible to just rec one, im really partial to the quarantine harry series as well. i just reallly love the relationship dynamics they explore so well, each fic is such a lovely journey and also hot as hell most of the time not gonna line. you can find their masterlist here

infatuation on a mutual level by @harrygoeswest i really loooved this one by katie its so lovely and sweet and fun, i read it in one sitting i was truly hooked, i can't find a way to link her other stories in one go but check them out they're all great!!!

cloudbusting by @starsstruck is one of my all all time faves, i re-read it often. its such a lovely story with really interesting characters and a really lovely love story that makes you want to scream in the best way possible. charlotte has a way of writing really palpable chemistry, i can't find a way to link a masterlist of hers but one of her shorter fics blue dream is one of my faves as well

Queer Metalhead History

It’s time for a brief lesson about the history of queerness and metal music. That’s right, the metal and queer communities are old friends and allies. 

So, the leather community has been around since the late 1920′s/early 1930′s, but leather bars specifically became more popular in the late 1950′s. And you know who was hanging out at leather bars? Gay bikers and veterans, who needed safe places to gather during McCarthyism and the Lavender Scare. In fact, the Satyr Motorcycle Club, the oldest gay biker club in the United States, was recently inducted into the Leather Hall of Fame.

And who was spending time in those clubs and with those gangs? Rob Halford, lead singer and songwriter for the legendary heavy metal band (and my personal favorite band of all time) Judas Priest. His song “Raw Deal” (1977) includes the line: “The true free expression I demand is human rights” and references “Fire Island”, a popular gay hangout in New York. 

He stated in a 2019 interview: “I urge people, LGBTQ, any of us that are still trying to find that moment to break down the door … step forward and say, 'This is who I am and I’m proud of who I am. I'm not going to be intimidated. I'm not going to live in fear. I'm not going to put everybody else before me.”

In 2020 he was interviewed by Rolling Stone and said: “Everything changes when you hit the stage. Just getting out there and holding a mic, there’s something very tangible that shifts in me and suddenly it’s the Metal God. It’s a bit like when Superman went into the phone booth and came out. Whereas he came out in a cape and tights, I come out in leather chaps.”

The title “Metal God” comes from Priest’s sixth studio album, British Steel, which was released in 1980. The album cover depicts a man’s hand holding a razor blade and wearing a spiked leather cuff on his wrist; Halford’s experiences in the leather community forever affected the metal community, who picked up on this trend quickly and spread it through the culture. 

He posted selfies with his favorite cat t-shirts through the entirety of the COVID-19 lockdown, for fuck’s sake, and swaps book recommendations with his life partner, Thomas. 

And yet the metal community remains largely homophobic, with Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx using the f-slur repeatedly, the infamous “AIDS Kills F***s” t-shirt worn by Skid Row’s guitarist Sebastian Bach, and plenty of other examples should you care to learn more. 

This Pride Month, as a metalhead raised by an 80′s metalhead who took my queer ass to see Judas Priest a few years back (love you Dad), let’s say thank you to this badass “stately homosexual”. Let’s remember who’s predominantly responsible (not entirely, but he helped A LOT) for the leather aesthetic in metal. For some of the queerest lyrics of all time (Grinder, anyone? Perhaps Hell Bent for Leather?). For being a general badass Metal God.

2022 wasn't as killer a year for books as 2021, but I don't know how it could be; 2021 was my introduction to Clive Barker, Livia Llewellyn, and especially the Kushiel books, which made me wail "Where have you been?!" like Molly Grue. I still had no trouble putting together my top ten first-time reads and a couple of honorable mentions. There are so many good books, y’all!

Alphabetical by author:

Watership Down by Richard Adams, read by Peter Capaldi. This was technically a reread, but it didn't click for me at all when I read it in eighth grade. Boy howdy, it clicked this time. It's a classic for a reason, and Capaldi nails the narration.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. This is the only time I ever finished a book, flipped back to the beginning, and immediately read it again. I was crying at the end without quite knowing why. Just gorgeous and moving and wonderful.

Die by Kieron Gillen. Basically a hard R graphic novel of the 80s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon with some fascinating meditation on TTRPGS in general. It disappears up its own butt a bit, but it's still terrific.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. This is everything I wanted AI: Artificial Intelligence to be.

Curse of Dracula by Kathryn Ann Kingsley. This is sort of the catch-all for my discovering Kingsley this year; I read *eight* of her books. She's my exact horror romance sweet spot for when I want a bit of creepiness and a lot of swoon. Sometimes you just want Phantom of the Opera where Eric gets the girl, okay? (Although that's more Impossible Julian Strande than Dracula, but how am I supposed to say no to well-done vampire smut?)

Boys Life by Robert McCammon. I did a trivia special about the Stoker Awards in October, so I read a *lot* of Stoker winners this year, and this was the best. Bradbury-like dark fantasy dripping with nostalgia. I cried twice. (CW: a dog and a child die)

The Call by Peadar O'Guilin. I freaking loved this book. Body horror plus the Wild Hunt? Yes please! Also, while this is coming from someone whose only physical disability is terrible eyesight, Nessa is possibly the best disabled character I've ever read. She has polio, and the book is crystal clear on two points: this *doesn't* mean the Wild Hunt is going to kill her immediately, but it's *horrible* for her chances. We never get any "if she works hard, then by cracky, she may as well not be disabled at all!", but it's always clear that she has a chance and anyone who says otherwise can kiss off.

Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat. When I was on a heavy Thrawn kick last winter, I asked r/romancebooks to recommend a book with a Thrawn-like love interest, and some saint mentioned this. Laurent isn't quite Thrawn–imagine Thrawn's angry teenage brother–but whew, he's close enough. The whole trilogy is good, but the power dynamics are so delicious in the third one that it wins the day. (CW: the first book has noncon, and there's repeated mention of childhood sexual abuse, although none on screen. The villain is into that sort of thing.)

Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse. Black Sun was one of my favorite reads of 2020, and this is a worthy sequel. It even made me like Naranpa!

The Hidden Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. Just…gorgeous. I loved this one.

Honorable mentions: Starless by Jacqueline Carey (speaking of great disabled characters), Prairie Fires by Caroline Fraser (the true story of Little House on the Prairie), NPCs by Drew Hayes (just a blast), Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne (a fun, spicy modernization that had me laughing out loud), and Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare (a gory romp that dares to ask: what if there were a clown in a cornfield?).

Children of Dawn Pt. 20 (A Twilight Saga Fanfiction)

Note: I originally created this story back in 2020 with the first lockdowns from COVID-19. I had posted it on Wattpad under a different name, SaturnFire2000. However, I kept being drawn back to this story. It might be a while before new chapters are added, but I thought it would be worth re-posting the story on here given my new-found family of followers.

Summary: Years after the final battle, the Cullen family face new challenges. Edward and Bella take on new roles in life; Renesmee struggles to understand her goals and purpose in a world where no one is like her. The Volturi kept a large secret that could destroy them all.

Chapter 20: Renesmee

Cold, wet and shaking. That’s the only thing I could recall as I woke up. Every muscle was spasming, my body felt like it was on fire but cold at its touch.

Sweat coated my skin all over, making the thick muggy air around me even more sickly to breathe as it entered my lungs. Tears were streaming down my face and blurred anything in my sight.  

I tried to scream for help, praying to any God out there to help me. My throat was dry and burning, the only sensation that could compare would be a newborn vampire’s first awakening and hunger. 

I began to move my arms slowly, lifting them up from my sides. I felt a resistance, something restraining me down and plunged deep into my skin. Needles? I thought. Impossible, nothing could penetrate my skin, yet here I was with a sharp pain rising through my arm and tender aches in my muscles. 

I thought about my family and the only life I have ever known. I imagined Esme trying to calm me down, having me take deep breaths in and out. I mimicked the imagery, pushing through the burning sensations to regulate my senses. After a few minutes, the slowly gained control over my tears, my eyes flaming and puffy. 

The room I was in was dark, the sound of water droplets leaking from the edge of the walls splattered to the ground in small buddles.

The smell of death echoed around me, the type of death of decay long after any sign of life. The walls were made of old stones, mould and vines streaming up from the cracks and openings. No one was with me at the moment, tight metal steal clasped my ankles in place and restricted my neck movement. 

 Never before in my life had I had so many bruises and wounds scattered along my body. I didn’t even know it was possible for me to get them. With no idea of where I was or how long I have been here for, fear washed over me. 

Was my family safe?

Is anyone coming for me? 

What do they plan to do to me?

I was too afraid to make any sounds, what happens if it made them come for me? And by them I didn’t mean my family. I knew it was the Volturi, it had to be. 

I took this time I was alone to try and assess the damage inflicted on me. Asides from the bruises and open wounds, there were multiple needles and tubes plunged into my arms and chest. I was wearing the bare minimum amount of clothing, the thin fabric clung to me. Dirt was smudged all along my legs and arms. 

 Why did I run off alone?  I cried to myself. I wished that I never left the house. I anger I felt before about Jacob keeping the imprinting from me seemed like such a minor issue compared to what I was going through now. 

Jacob. 

Jacob will find me.

Native Land Pod covers Iowa Primary Results

Cross and Andrew Gillum. What is your current weight? I weigh 134 pounds! (Down from high as 208 pounds) 

How have you maintained your weight loss/continued to lose weight? I’ve continued with a keto/low-carb plan. When I have an off day, I just get right back on plan. I don’t let an off day become an off month! Thats key! I also continue to work out four times a week! My new favorite workout is jumping rope!

Looking back on the lessons you’ve learned on your journey, which one stands out the most? Don’t be too restrictive. Just balance it out! 

Would you like to offer any new or different advice to women who want to lose weight? Yes, do what works for you! I received lots of opinions on what would work and not. Once you find what works for you and your body, keep going.

My Eurovision Winners Ranked

Up next on my list of super fun content to put out while waiting for more Eurovision 2024 Content is the 2nd place poll decision: My personal winners ranked.

This is a super exciting challenge for me because I will be looking at my personal favorites (from 2009 onward) and then ranking them (which may also be the hardest thing I will do this semester), so consider this my All-Star Fan Contest.

DISCLAIMER: This was put together rather quickly and on a day that wasn't the day I put this post out. So this ranking may be different over time. It's so sporadic that my top 5 changes almost every time I hear the respective songs. HERE WE GO!

15. "You Are The Only One" by Sergey Lazarev/"Sound Of Silence" by Dami Im (🇷🇺 and 🇦🇺 2016) Technically, this is more "UNRANKED" because I have 2 2016 winners that change depending on my mood. That's how this list is kicking off.

14. "Running Scared" by Ell/Nikki (🇦🇿 2011) A divisive entry when it comes to if it deserved to win. I think it did (obviously lol), but I just liked others from other years a little more. But it doesn't take away from the fact that I find this song really beautiful.

13. "Fairytale" by Alexander Rybak (🇳🇴 2009) Wow. I ranked an icon so low, but that just means that Eurovision, for me, improved so much over the past years since I started ranking them. Plus, the iconic level that this song holds alone is astounding.

12. "Undo" by Sanna Nielsen (🇸🇪 2014) Staging wise, the staging really catapulted the song to great heights. But the song is amazing and I always enjoy hearing it. It has kind of a music box opening, which is always something I can get behind. I feel bad for ranking this one so low!

11. "Beautiful Mess" by Kristian Kostov (🇧🇬 2017) This song is so mellow, but great because it's NOT boring! It's really calming and was a really popular song at the time and even personally (was 81st on my Wrapped in 2022 and my mom has this on her playlist).

10. "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence (🇳🇱 2019) Of the actual winners at the contest, this one has to be my favorite of the bunch. It deserves all the accolades, and is the perfect song to be the first Eurovision song to reach 1 billion streams. I respect Duncan so much as a musician and think he deserves all great things with this song.

9. "O Mie" by Aliona Moon (🇲🇩 2013) A beautiful, rather underrated ballad from Moldova took the top spot for me in 2013, and I don't regret putting it up there. The song is so amazing. It's one of the songs where the performance didn't need to do anything for the song as the song is great in and of itself.

8. "Répondez-moi" by Gjon's Tears (🇨🇭 2020) I feel so bad for putting this down in the middle of the pack because I really do like this song! It just shows how much I like these personal winners. And thing is, I think this song would have done well had the contest gone on. Probably not a win, but I could see it getting a similar result as "Tout l'univers" had one year later.

7. "Forever" by Alekseev (Belarus 2018) This is only 1 of 2 NQs I had of all my personal winners. But this is one of my favorites because the ambiance is unique and eerie, but so entrancing. It's something I would love to write something for it, but also love the personal feelings I have when listening to it (if that makes sense?)

6. "Die Together" by Amanda Tenfjord (🇬🇷 2022) My first run through of Eurovision (catching up with all the songs as they came out) brought me an amazing winner to kick it off. I was hooked from the concept of the song and was not disappointed with what we were given!

5. "Crno I Belo" by Kaliopi (🇲🇰 2012) Kaliopi is a total queen for bringing this iconic song to the contest. I love it so much, was so happy when it got put on Spotify in the US that I actually wrote something about it. But from beginning to end it amazes. The pacing is magnificent and everything about it (HIGH NOTE) was absolutely stunning!

4. "We Could Be The Same" by maNga (🇹🇷 2010) I know I know I know. I'm team Turkiyë in the debate. But as someone who loves rock music, this song was perfect for me. In fact, it was one of the first Eurovision songs I had heard that hadn't won!

3. "Aijā" by Sudden Lights (🇱🇻 2023) What haven't I already said about this song? It's such a magical piece from beginning to end. It's so relaxing (and I actually tried listening to it while falling asleep once like an actual lullaby and I was OUT before the song was done!). When I first heard it, it quite literally shot to the top of the rankings and stayed there (despite my runner up's efforts). I also must note that I also listened to the rest of Sudden Lights' discography and was impressed with what I heard!

2. "Rhythm Inside" by Loïc Nottet (🇧🇪 2015) Taking runner up is my personal favorite from one of the most stacked years of Eurovision. This song, while varies away from songs I typically listen to is just so catchy. It also bears an emotional attachment because since hearing this song (and watching the performance), I have become a huge fan of Loïc's post-Eurovision discography, which is also vastly different from his entry.

1. "Tout l'univers" by Gjon's Tears (🇨🇭 2021) I know from when I mentioned my favorites from each country that I pointed out my favorite entry of all time being Switzerland's 2021 entry. A lot of what makes it my all time favorite is the emotional attachment I have towards it. If this song didn't exist, I doubt I would be writing this today.

Republican or RINO?

The conventional wisdom is that Donald Trump is the odds-on favorite to be the GOP nominee for president in 2024. But, as The Hill points out, "With each passing week, there are reports of more and more Republicans suffering from 'Trump fatigue.'" Through 2020, the twice-impeached ex-president's approval rating among Republicans was above 90%. However, according to the latest Wall Street Journal poll, it has since fallen to 74%. And to 70% in a Quinnipiac poll. Meanwhile, a Suffolk poll head-to-head match-up has Florida fascist Ron DeSantis dominating him by 23 points.

Perhaps this explains why Trump is stirring speculation that, should the GOP nomination go to somebody else — like DeSantis or Nikki Haley or, well, not Mike Pence — he will run in 2024 as an independent to punish the Party for its treachery. (He recently refused to say he would support the Republican presidential nominee if it wasn't him.) So, just how steadfast a Republican is he?

Few people remember that not very long ago Trump was a full-throated Democrat. In a 2004 interview, he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer, "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat." Manhattan voter records show that Trump initially registered as a Republican in 1987, switched to the Reform Party in 1999, the Democrats in 2001, and back to Republican in 2009.

In public, he's held a variety of politically convenient positions. For example, when it suited him, he was a yuge Hillary Clinton booster. On his one-time radio commentary program, Trumped, he said, "She'd make a good president or a good vice president." And here he is on Faux News gushing over the then-Secretary of State.

I’ve known her and her husband for years, and I really like them both a lot. And I think she really works hard and she does a good job and I like her.

Writing in The Atlantic, Peter Wehner explains why Trump has no strong attachment to the Republican Party. Or anything and anyone else, for that matter.

His malignant narcissism prevents that. Trump is an institutional arsonist, peddling conspiracy theories, spreading lies, sowing distrust. But Trump is now causing growing unease among his past supporters and the GOP establishment by signaling that he may very well turn that skill against their party.

Is Trump truly so vindictive that he'd split the Republican vote and hand the presidency to a Democrat? Sure he is. Since he's only loyal to one person, he'd burn the GOP to the ground in a Mar-a-Lago minute if they dared cross him.

ahh where do i begin. my favorite thing about him? how do i choose a single thing? his smile, displaying various moods and subtleties. his hands, firm and masculine but delicate and expressive. his build, i mean we talk about it constantly. where.. just.... when on earth did it happen? not complaining though. ;) his introverted personality. yes, he has his loud, look-at-me moments, but in a natural setting, he doesn't unnecessarily overexert himself. love that for him. go baby give us nothing. relax. please continue to sit on your phone in the corner i don't need fake enthusiasm 24/7. as long as i see your lil casual self in the corner of a video by yourself just chilling scrolling through your phone i'm good. <3333

when i knew he was my bias??? nct 2020, resonance pt 2, he had just dyed his hair black. now, jaem has always been Up There on my list, always at least top 5, but resonance pt 1 shot him to number 2 and then he dyed his hair black. now he is my number one, or really my only lol. but yeah, that was what did it. the black hair. which ultimately leads me into my favorite looks lmao. his black hair will alwayssssss be top tier for me! i don't care what color he does, black will always top it. blue is a close second, but a maintained, icy blue, like ridin era.

my favorite verse has to be his first verse in dreaming, the short little melody of his! he isn't the best vocalist i know but that line made me so proud of him when i first heard it. he did great, he delivered that sound well, and i wish there was more of that sound from him.

i would love to see him book more solo modeling gigs, especially a fashion week! (would have loved a nomin duo at nyfw) he's obviously proved he can work a camera, so i'd love to see him land some more shoots and maybe one day work a runway. i would also love for him to take a nap, specifically on a flight to new york, and then another nap in my bed with me. idk just a thought.

to finish this off, jaemin is so great and contributes so much and his friends love him and i am very tired of people writing him off because he isn't a vocalist. <333 he is trying his best and working so hard and he deserves the world and i hope he is happy and healthy and eating well and sleeping well and taking time to himself here and there and is not pushing himself and i hope his back is feeling well and that he gets to see his family soon and that he continues to be his true unbothered self. <33333 (sorry i didn't realize how long this had gotten lmao)

your last paragraph sums up my feelings as well, and i think it is fitting because jaem seems to have a similar attitude towards life as well of like, i'm gonna do my best and work hard and enjoy life but not push myself too hard and make sure to take care of myself <3 and i love that about him <3 (and semi related but....i think lee know seems to have a similar life attitude as well which i will mention in my lee know love letter 😉)
