Getting brain rot from this shit rn. Ok so basically it’s Lloyd x reader with Both povs: reader is absolutely SMITTEN with Lloyd. I’m talking like staring at him with heart eyes in math class type shit. Unfortunately, he is not aware she even exits. HOWEVER, she does have a collection of love letters addressed to him, that she has not sent due to embarrassment. Her friends find out about it, and however do not approve of Lloyd, are like “whatever makes you happy” and urge her to start putting them in his locker, one/ a day as his secret admirer. Lloyd gets them, but is skeptical at first, because he thinks it’s just another form of bullying/public embarrassment. After a few days of getting them though, he shows the rest of the gang to see what they think. They are *very supportive* of him, and encourage him to find out who it is. And after a while of running around with no lead, he finds reader at lunch, writing one of those beloved pink letters. You can go from there!
Fem reader, school au thingy
Reader is described as smart, flustered easily, basically an awkward Highschool kid

secret someone. | lloyd x reader
This isn’t like you at all.
A quiet sigh escapes you as your fingers fidget with your pen, desperately trying to tune into the lecture. It isn’t exactly difficult material; you understand it quite well. It’s just the fact that the teacher only teaches using a monotonous PowerPoint, voice droning on and on and on. In short, your goblin brain has been focused on something else entirely. Something with far more visual appeal:
Lloyd Garmadon.
Yes, the blond-haired, emerald-eyed son of an Oni warlord had become the subject of your schoolgirl infatuation as of late. For a few weeks now – almost a month – you've had him on your mind. You’re not entirely sure what triggered it, but you’d caught yourself staring at him one day. It all got worse from there.
Hell, you haven’t even really talked to him. Sure, he’s in a few of your classes, but you never were able to build up the courage to actually initiate conversation. Something about him was warmly inviting but also deeply intimidating, and you can’t quite put your finger on what that could be.
It could be the rumors – whispers shared in the hallway while the “Garmadork Squad” passed, about how Lloyd would eventually share the same fate as his father and drag his friends down with him. But you highly doubt that. From what you’ve seen of him, he’s super sweet to others no matter how badly they may treat him. You’d always found that admirable considering how the majority of the school is against him.
You’re snapped out of your haze when the bell rings, relief coursing through you. Thank the stars it’s the end of the day. You quickly gather all of your belongings before stuffing everything into your backpack, hauling it up on your desk so that you can zip it up. With that, you’re ready to go.
…
“Hey! Sorry I’m late!” you yell, spying all of your friends already seated at the café. “You know how busy the school gets when it lets out.”
“No worries,” one of them replies as you set your backpack on one of the empty chairs. You unzip it, grabbing your wallet before going to order a drink.
While you’re waiting for it to be made, you hear a little bit of commotion at your table.
You turn to see two of your friends crowded around the table, both looking down at something. Not thinking anything of it, you turn back around, idly scrolling through your phone as you wait.
Once the barista hands it over to you, you thank her. Then, you make your way back to your table.
Upon arriving, you find two of your friends fussing over a mess made on the floor.
“What happened?” you question, peering through them.
“I tripped and knocked some of our stuff over,” the first one replies, kneeling down to clean up the mess.
Your heart skips a beat when you realize that some of the contents of your bag have spilled, including one of your personal binders.
“Wait!” you squeak, pushing past them to gather all of the pink papers up. You shove them back into the binder, a blush adorning your cheeks as you pray none of them got the chance to read one.
To your dismay, though, one of your friends has already grabbed one, eyes scanning over the contents.
“Hey!” you say a little louder than you meant. “That’s...um...”
“What is it?” another girl questions.
“Aww...sorry, I didn’t realize this was so personal. Curiosity just kinda took over, I guess,” replies the girl that had been reading your letter. You grab it back from her, sighing heavily as you try not to be embarrassed.
“It’s okay,” you mumble, re-packing your bag and making sure it’s completely zipped. “Did...anyone else see it?”
“I kind of...told them. I’m sorry.”
You groan. “I guess it would have come out at some point anyway.”
“So...Lloyd?”
You sigh, burying your face in your hands. You should have just left your letters at home. “Yeah.”
“But he’s-”
“Don’t say it. I know. I get it. That’s why I didn’t say anything.”
“Are you going to tell him?” another girl asks.
“I haven’t even talked to him yet! I just...think he’s cute,” you mumble. “It’s probably just a temporary thing anyway. Besides, not one of us has even talked to him! Don’t you think people treat him a little unfairly?”
“I guess you have a point,” she replies.
“Why don’t you just put those letters into his locker? Like, you could put one in there per day or something?” another friend suggests.
You take a sip of your drink, taking a moment to ponder the idea. Hm...
“Yeah, you could be his secret admirer! That’d be cute!” someone else adds.
“I don’t know,” you mumble, fidgeting nervously. “I don’t want to make him uncomfortable.”
“Come on! It’s worth a shot,” another encourages. “Just give it a try and see what happens!”
Maybe it wouldn’t hurt? You’re not sure. But maybe she’s right – it could be worth a try. And perhaps it would make you feel better in the process.
You nod. “Okay. I’ll put one in tomorrow, then.”
“You got this! Good luck!”
…
“Man, our math test is going to suck today,” Jay comments, groaning slightly.
“Wait, what test?” Kai questions, turning to face the redhead with a puzzled expression.
“You’re hopeless,” Nya comments, rolling her eyes as the group enters the school.
Lloyd chuckles, attempting to match the high energy of his teammates. He can’t really bring himself to join in on the banter, though. Instead, he finds himself nervous to face the day.
“Anyways, see you guys at lunch!” Nya yells, following Jay and Zane down one hall.
Kai pats Lloyd on the shoulder before he and Cole go to their lockers. “Later, sis.”
Lloyd approaches his locker, fingers going to spin the lock around until it pops open. He pulls the door open, getting out what he needs when a pop of color catches his eye.
“Huh?” Lloyd mutters, spotting a red envelope resting on top of his belongings. He definitely didn’t put that in there. Someone must have slipped it in.
He picks it up, reading the writing on the front.
Lloyd
“Probably another prank,” he mumbles, deciding to open it anyways.
Inside is a neatly folded piece of paper. It’s a vibrant shade of pink, with cutesy doodles lining the right side and a paragraph of unfamiliar handwriting on the left.
Dear Lloyd,
Hm…how do I start this? To be honest…I guess you can call me a secret admirer of yours? I hope I’m not coming off as creepy!! But I’m too nervous to actually come up and talk to you…
So, for now, I’ll write about my feelings in the form of these letters!
To make a long story short, I saw you standing underneath the sunlight about a month ago for the first time. And it just made me realize how handsome you are. You and sunshine go hand-in-hand; the way it casts your blond hair in a warm glow, complimenting your pretty green eyes…I wish I could see them up close. They’re such an encapsulating shade of green!
Anyways, I won’t ramble for too long. I hope you have a good weekend! ^_^
Sincerely,
Your Secret Someone! ♥
Lloyd stares at the letter for a few seconds before reading it again to ensure that he was reading it right.
No…there’s no way he’d have a “secret someone”. This has to be another cruel prank, right? Yeah, that’s it. The bullies are just trying to get to him. The thought of it potentially being real crosses his mind, but he quickly shakes the possibility off.
He sighs, stuffing the paper into his bag and getting the other items he needs before slamming his locker and zipping his bag. That’s a new low, even for the jerks.
Letter forgotten, he makes his way to class for the time being.
…
You make your way through the locker area to see if Lloyd has arrived. Sure enough, you spot him opening his locker. You grow more nervous by the minute. Would he be uncomfortable? Creeped out?
The anxiety has quite a chokehold on you, but at the very least you wanted to give it a shot. Soon enough, he starts reading it. Oh stars…
You slow down slightly, watching as his face contorts into something of a conflicted expression. Uh-oh, that doesn’t look good!
He shoves it in his bag before he leaves, not sparing the letter a second glance. You feel your heart drop slightly, making your way to class.
You pull your phone out, sending a quick text to your friend:
He didn’t seem happy about it
Idk he looks kind of conflicted??
You shut your phone off as you begin your walk to class, hoping you didn’t make him uncomfortable.
Relax, hes probably wary of stuff like that bc of the bullying
And he might be shy too? So keep trying. If hes still not into it after a while then you can stop
But I don’t think a few more will hurt
You sigh, reading through the message before replying:
Okay, fine...
…
Lloyd thought the letters were going to stop after that.
But he was wrong – they kept on coming. One after another, and he wasn’t sure how to feel. Would the bullies even go this far for a prank?
He sighs, tuning out his teacher, who’s rambling on about something boring. Once more, he reads the latest letter:
Dear Lloyd,
I’ve seen the way that people treat you around here. I don’t think it’s fair at all. And despite their treatment towards you, you still are kind to them. I think that’s admirable.
People shouldn’t treat you differently because of your bloodline. I wish there was more that I could do to help, but almost everyone is in on it. I’m sorry I can’t do more about it.
I think you’re inspiring. Despite being subjected to their negativity, you still face them with a smile.
You’re so strong. I like that about you too. Don’t let them get you down.
Sincerely,
Your Secret Someone! ♥
Lloyd pushes the paper to the side, wishing his stupid blush would go away. At this point, he’s not sure of what he should do. Part of him remains hopeful that maybe, for once, someone outside of his friend group is behind this. And, even better, doing it with genuine intention.
The question lingers on his mind until lunch, where he finds himself squished between Kai and Cole at the group’s usual table.
“What’s on your mind, greenie? You’ve been pretty contemplative today,” Cole questions as he destroys an unsuspecting bottle of chocolate milk.
“Uh…” Lloyd trails off, debating on whether he should tell them. But then again…what else would he do? “It’s just…I’ve been getting these letters in my locker every day for almost two weeks now. And I don’t really know how to feel...”
He shuffles through his bag before pulling the stack of letters out. Kai immediately snatches them, shuffling through the pile and reading them.
“Damn, Lloyd. Looks like you have a secret admirer!” Kai notes, chuckling.
“Awww!” Nya coos. Lloyd blushes, averting his gaze.
“But, don’t you think it could be some sort of trick? Or another prank?” Lloyd asks, watching as Kai hands the stack to Cole.
“You said this has been going on for two weeks, yes?” Zane questions.
“Yeah…”
Cole hands the stack to Zane, who immediately scans the papers discreetly. “I find the likelihood of this being a prank very low. This handwriting does not match any of the bullies.”
“How do you know that?” Kai wonders, staring at Zane with mild intrigue.
“Because of the papers they have thrown at us in the past,” replies the nindroid. “All handwriting that I come across is automatically stored in my memory.”
“Ah,” Kai mumbles. “Well, there you go, Lloyd. You should find out who it is!”
“But how?” Lloyd wonders as Kai hands the papers back. He stares down at the pink papers, taking a moment to trace the handwriting with the tips of his fingers. Who could it possibly be? He wouldn’t even know where to start...
“Well, when do the letters usually appear?” Nya questions.
“When I get to school, usually it’s already inside,” Lloyd admits, studying the pink papers curiously.
“Maybe we could try and arrive earlier?” Jay suggests. “That way, we can weed potential suspects out by seeing who gets here early.”
Cole nods in responds, shifting his focus to a helpless pudding cup. “That sounds doable.”
“Then let’s do it,” Kai encourages. “Let the hunt begin!”
…
Day after day, Lloyd and the others arrive earlier to school, but to no avail. Whoever is behind this is better than Lloyd initially suspected.
Even so, the group keeps their eyes peeled throughout the coming days. As the week ends, Lloyd finds himself losing hope despite his friends’ encouragement.
Friday approaches, with Lloyd tucking the latest letter in one of his notebooks before heading to lunch with Jay.
“Any luck?” Jay wonders.
“No,” Lloyd answers. “I’m starting to think this person is a ghost!”
“Aw, come on, greenie. You’ve got to have a little more faith! I’m sure we just missed something,” Jay responds.
“I don’t know, Jay,” Lloyd mumbles as the two enter the lunchroom. “Maybe we should-”
He’s interrupted by Nya rushing in front of him, yanking Lloyd by the bicep and pulling him towards the table.
“Nya?! What is it?” Lloyd wonders, eyes wide as Nya hushes him.
“Look over there,” she whispers, gesturing towards one of the nearby lunch tables. Lloyd frowns, narrowing his stare as he slowly turns around.
At first, nothing seems out of place. The area is just filled with a few tables of students milling about, eating lunch and chatting.
It’s then Lloyd notices one group of girls in particular, one of which is writing. Upon closer inspection, though, he finds that she’s writing on…
“Pink paper!” Lloyd exclaims quietly.
“And there’s a red envelope next to her too!” Nya adds, pulling both Jay and Lloyd to their usual table. “So it has to be her!”
“Isn’t she in some of your classes?” Jay questions as the three sit down with the rest of the group.
“Yeah, she is,” Lloyd says. Wow. It’s you? He never would have guessed…
He hadn’t really spoken to you, but from what he saw within the classroom, you tended to keep to yourself.
“Lloyd, did you see her?” Cole questions.
“Yeah, I did.”
“She’s in my science class, and she’s really smart,” Cole notes, as the group eats together.
“Pretty, too,” Kai adds. “So, what are you going to do?”
Lloyd thinks for a moment before coming up with an idea. “I know exactly what I’m going to do.”
…
You sigh, your worries beginning to get the best of you as you head towards your locker at the end of the day. Maybe you should just stop? You’re starting to feel a bit silly.
Momentarily you debate on texting your friends how you’re feeling, but decide to hold off. Well...you only have one letter left. Might as well finish them off before you make a decision.
As per usual, you slip the envelope into Lloyd’s locker for what you believe to be the last time. With that done, you go to your own locker in order to get what you need.
Sighing softly, you open your locker, about to exchange items when a flurry of motion captures your attention.
Your gaze drifts down to find a red envelope on the floor.
“What?” you mumble, frowning as you go to pick it up. Had you missed an old letter? That would make sense – perhaps one simply fell out of your binder?
But, when you flip it over, you find that the handwriting is not yours. Instead, your name is scrawled across the front in childishly messy handwriting.
Wait...no...this can’t...there’s no way...?
You anxiously gnaw on the inside of your cheek as you tear the envelope open, pulling out the pink piece of paper inside:
Following an addressal to you, it reads:
Well...it took me a while, but I finally figured out who you are. You’re pretty sneaky, you know that? I thought it would be simpler to find you.
But I figured it out at lunch yesterday – I happened to see you writing on a piece of pink paper when you were sitting with your friends. And...well, I was wondering how to answer all of the letters, and then I just thought: “Why not turn the tables?”.
First of all, I just want to say that, while I was a little skeptical at first (I thought that it might have been a prank), I really appreciate you taking the time to write these and put them into my locker every morning. These past few weeks have been tough – you know, bullying, plus tests and stuff – but your letters have helped me face the day. I started to look forward to them, all while wondering who you were...
...and now that I know, it’s made me realize that I want to get to know you.
We have a few classes together. I know you’re really smart and kind. And pretty. But I don’t know much else.
So, let’s change that.
Look behind you!
Sincerely,
Lloyd
Your eyes widen, cheeks burning as you swivel around to face none other than Lloyd himself.
You squeak, somewhat startled as you clutch the letter to your chest.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I, um...I didn’t mean to scare you,” he notes, rubbing the back of his neck as he averts his gaze.
“No, it’s o-okay!” you stutter. “I’m just...well, kind of flustered, I guess. I never thought that this would actually happen.”
“You certainly didn’t make it easy,” Lloyd jokes, chuckling as he rubs the back of his neck. “So...want to go get coffee sometime? I mean, only if you’re able! And, if you want to...”
“I would love to,” you mumble, smiling softly as your heart races.
“Can you come now? I know there’s a cafe nearby,” Lloyd invites.
“Sure! Just let me get my bag.”
With that, the two of you head towards the café together, not knowing that this is the start of something wonderful.

All was well for Cole until the day he fell off the bounty into the Oni cloud. No one would have survived that fall, not even he should have but the second he woke up and realized no one was going to save him he knew he had to take action himself.
Tumblr media
᭥ ★ Cole who found a way out of the oni cloud, barely surviving but in a huge shock. He was angry, not because he fell into the cloud but the fact none of his friends bothered to search for him, assuming he’s dead.
᭥ ★ Cole who decides that if no one is going to back him up like he backs them up, he should just take action and rule over ninjago.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who decides if he wants to rule over Ninjago he has to rule over it with his baby, Irena. She’s the only person he desires the most, the woman who was always by his side since the beginning.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who sneaks into the monastery at night when all of the ninja are asleep and kidnaps his baby. With his baby in his hold, he’s unstoppable.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who doesn’t lock his baby up when he kidnaps her. If she wanted to leave she could , he didn’t want her to hate him just because he locked her up so he let her have free will.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who was delighted when his baby finally woke up. She was confused on where she was until she saw him. Her fiancé who she believed had died. Oh how she missed him dearly she cried.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who tells his baby his plans. His baby was shocked. Scared because that wasn’t like the man she loved but she’d follow him to the ends of the earth.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who starts to cause destruction amongst Ninjago after the oni were defeated and the cloud had subsided. Due to the fact he and his baby are both Ninja they stood out of sight leaving the Ninja with very little clues.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole and his baby who set the monastery on fire when the Ninja are away. Causing suffering to the ninja was his goal and it was easier than it seemed.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who declares he’s going to marry his baby on the ashes of the monastery that same day. He just can’t get enough of his baby. Not yet anyways.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole and his baby who were in the middle of a kiss when the ninja returned to their home up in flames. The pain in their eyes only made Cole laugh revealing his and his babies identity.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole who taunts the ninja at their shocked faces of their assumed dead friend. He was never dead, just unconscious but still it hurt when his friends assumed he was dead and didn’t bother looking for him.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole and his baby who run off laughing while the ninja chase them. Adrenaline kicking into their veins after a sudden declaration that they will rule over ninjago.
᭥ ★ Villain ! Cole and his baby who are still on the run from the ninja but now they’re officially married with two little kiddos. They may not be the rulers on Ninjago but no one can stop them when they show up every once and awhile causing chaos with two little babies strapped to their backs.

Cigarettes after sex
----------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
---------------------------------------
Summary: You and Morro smoke cigarettes after sneaking out during the night and having some adult fun in the forest.
Warnings: slightly suggestive, mentions of sex, smokable flowers, swearing, Morro has a human body, Bolobo does not exist for the sake of this, not proofread
Type: drabble/ short oneshot
Pairing: Morro x F!Master of nature!Reader
Note: I researched how smokable flowers work and 50% of people say they got high from smoking them and the other say they don't so i have no idea whether this is true or not, but lets pretend it is for the sake of the fic
----------------------------------------------------------
The master of nature's body rolls from the top of her boyfriend's body to the ground beside him, both panting and gasping for air like crazy, the night moon illuminating their naked sweaty bodies.
Morro's breathing finally starts to become rhythmic and slow again. He thinks for a moment before saying a single 'woah' and brushing some sweaty strands of hair that were getting in his eyes from his forehead.
'"Woah", indeed!' You respond with a teasing tone, turning your head to him right after and letting out a small laugh. You stretch your arms and sit up. You feel a pair of arms starting to pull you back down.
'noooo' you whine as you hear Morro groan. You flick him on the head and he drops back down on the grass in defeat. You start grabbing your underwear from the pile of clothes and start dressing up. You run a hand through your tangled hair. You realize its completely looking like a nest at this point. Your mouth is dry, your voice is hoarse, you've got dried cum on your jaw and in-between your fingers and a trail of drool that came out of the corner of your mouth. You grab your bottle of water and drink from it before putting your shirt on. You playfully hit Morro's face with his boxers to make him dress up to not catch a cold. He puts them on, still laying on the ground. You look back at him and he opens his eyes to look at you back. Morro closes his eyes back and lets out a loud sigh of content.
'Wanna get high?' You ask with half lidded eyes, shrugging your shoulders as you speak. Morro's eyes shoot open at your words.
'What? You mean you got cocaine on you or something? Wu's going to kill you, honey.' He says with raised brows.
'I've got these babies' You hold up a couple of joints between your fingers like a valkyrie and smile with the most shit eating grin possible. Morro takes one from your hand and examines it.
'What's that? Weed? What are you? 16?' He says, laughing and throwing the joint back at you playfully.
'Shut up, slut' You say as you pick it up from the grass. 'Those are smokable flowers' you say as you pick one out and search for a lighter in your bag. 'They are harmless to the body and help out with anxiety and sleep problems. Wanna light some up with me?' You offer as you place one between his fingers.
'Okay, but Wu's going to fucking annihilate us if we show up high to sunrise exercise. Or if we even show up high at all.' The master of wind says as he puts the joint in his mouth and lights it up along with you.
You let out smoke through your mouth. 'Good thing he's your dad then.' You say as you look down at him as he rolls his eyes and pinches your butt, earning a playful slap on the shoulder.
You've both already smoked 3 each and you're laying on the ground looking at the disappearing stars on the sky and laughing like maniacs. You sit up and start to tell your boyfriend your next genius thought.
'You know...humans are very funny creatures.' You begin to explain while Morro just hums to signal he's listening as his head rests on your lap, in-between your legs. 'Just think about it - Humans spend months digging up colorful rocks from the ground just to tie a string around them and put them on themselves just to feel pretty. They give these rocks to the people they love to show affection. Its adorable. Sweet little creatures' you smile at your own words as you lean down and you look your adorable boyfriend with your red from the drug eyes, matching his own.
Morro stares at you for a few seconds. He takes a drag from his joint. 'You're fucking weird.'
'Hey, I take that as a compliment,' you reply with a grin. "Besides, you're the one dating me, so what does that say about you?" you turn your head to face him and ask.
'That i like fucking weirdos' he says after he wraps his arms around your waist and buries his face in your tights.
'You know what's even weirder' he begins to talk, lifting his head from your tights 'Zane showed me an article that said that the world is 300 trillion dollars in debt. To who!?' He says with visible confusion on his stoned adorable face.
'To me' you reply. You sigh contently then shake his head lightly with your hand. 'Wanna go skinny dipping?' you say as you look down on his confused look.
'I have no idea what skinny dipping means, but i would go skinny slaughtering every person that even looks at you the wrong way.' He mumbles into your tights. 'You are the sweetest little human ever.'
'That's adorable, hun.' you say as you kiss his head, earning a groan from him.
Morro lets your waist go with one arm and starts searching for something in his pocket. You tilt your head in curiosity. He gets up on his elbows and ends up pulling a box with a ring inside.
'Do you want to be my funny little human?' He asks, looking at you with red droopy puppy eyes. You look at him - the man you want to spend your life with, making the most adorable puppy eyed expression while completely stoned.
You take a drag from your joint as you look at him in the eyes, smiling.
'Fuck yeah.'

Hello hello! This side blog is pretty much just for some short x reader stories while I work on some bigger projects! Please make sure you read this whole blog thoroughly before requesting :)

- If someone gives me a good enough idea I might make it more than a short story, but no promises!
- I am open to lgbtq+ and poly storys if requested.
- If you request please add your preferred gender or pronouns. If you don't specify I'll most likely use female reader stuff.
- You can request up too 3 things in one ask, but keep in mind I'll only use 1. You can request again after a few days :)
- If you request one of the characters that is a minor (ages 15-17 in my headcanon) in the game or show they are in, I will time skip to when they are at least 18. Even though there is no nsfw it's still weird for me to write x readers with teens.
- I do ask that you add some context! Because I have other bigger projects going on its easier too have a general idea of what I'm writing!
Characters I will write for (in order of what I have more interest in doing)->
Ninjago Characters:
  - Cole
  - Kai
  - Lloyd
  - Zane
  - Pixel
  - Akita
  - Vania
- Morro
  - Skylor
(I'm to much of a Jaya fan for them, sorry ;^;)
Pokemon Characters:
  - Raihan
  - Leon
  - Bede
  - Arven
  - Nemona
  - Adaman
  - Hop
Please keep in mind the list might expand once I have decided on some headcanoned personality traits for more characters!
I will make a masterlist once I have a good amount of things written!

jealous || Lloyd x reader
requested on quotev ! super short, badly written </3 _
The white haired princess stood outside with your boyfriend, Lloyd. You didn't exactly like the newcomer, she seemed shady in your eyes and unfortunately, only your eyes. Everybody thought she was a sweet, thoughtful, dainty girl who went through a lot and just needed some comfort, which you didn't exactly agree or disagree with. You watched as they yapped away outside of the Bounty, getting a little too close for comfort. They pulled each other closer until you decided that it was enough. "Ahem." You appeared behind them with a aggravated face, clearing your throat. "Oh!" He gasped nervously chuckled and glanced at Harumi before quickly turning to you, letting go of the princess. "Sorry, we didn't see you there (Y/n)." He looked back at the princess who then took a second and frantically nodded her head in agreement. You eyed them in suspicion, but soon after left, a sinking feeling arising in your stomach. It was a few hours after the whole event, and you stayed inside your room, not talking to anybody who approached you. You left them with a confused and concerned feeling, yet they decided it was nothing and it would be a good idea to leave you be for now. You sulked as you recollected who came into your room to talk and figure out what was wrong. First it was Kai, then his sister Nya, then Zane and Cole came together, and finally Jay who tried to make you smile and laugh with his silly antics. It worked, but it wasn't enough to put you in a good mood. Lloyd didn't visit you, however. He was still frolicking with the princess and tended to ignore you for the day, pretending you didn't exist. The rest of the team finally seemed to pick up on it and once Harumi was asleep they confronted Lloyd about it. You were about to sleep when suddenly the creak of the door woke you up. You sat up and turned to see a familiar platinum-haired boy in green, with a saddened face plastered on him. "Heyy (Y/n). . ." He drew out the 'y' in 'hey', he seemed nervous. "How are you?" He whispered, his voice was soft and caring, which you haven't heard for a while. You hummed in response, turning away from him and crawling back to the comforts of your blanket. You felt the mattress tilt to one side, knowing he had sat by your waist. You left a hand ghost over your back, to your shoulders, and back again. You two both sat in silence as he continued to rub shapes into your back. He sighed. "I'm sorry." He rested his hand on your waist. "I'm sorry for not spending time with you, i'm sorry for trying to push you away, i'm sorry that i kinda suck at this boyfriend stuff." He sadly chuckled. You turned around so that your back was on the bed and looked at him, he looked back at you, a warm yet sad smile on him. You sat up, held his hand and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek which he happily leaned into. "Yeah yeah, i just don't want you to get all touchy touchy with Harumi." You stated. "I promise, i won't ever do that!" He gave you a much needed hug as the two of you fell into the bed, snuggling with each other. "Well other than that, I forgive you, ya dork."

Father! Garmadon & Reader: The Day I Died
-kinda inspired by the movie ‘A Better Tomorrow’ [it’s on Youtube if you wanna watch it] and my own experiences
Summary: A few months after the Overlord’s ‘demise’ he returns and you find yourself feeling hopeless. Thankfully, Garmadon has your back this time and you aren’t alone.
NOTE: SAME TIME-LINE AS LIAR, SO YOU ARE THE GREEN NINJA INSTEAD OF LLOYD
Liar Part 1
Liar Part 2
Your mother was an amazing person. Sure, she left you and Lloyd when you were incredibly young, but only because she wanted to stop the final battle from ever happening to save you both from the pain of fighting your father in a showdown to the death. She may have left you, but she came back and tried to make it up to you even if it felt...odd to have a mother back after being alone for so long.
Your father was a different story. He was the imbalance that tipped Ninjago off its feet, the reason why you defied Destiny to become the Green Ninja, and the cause for all your suffering. He was evil, and sometimes, you wished he weren’t your father.
Despite the venom running through his veins being vanquished, he hadn’t dared show his face around you ever again. According the rare passerbyers you conversed with, he had set up his own ‘lovely and successful dojo’ a few hours away from Wu’s Academy (you thought that was a dumb name).
You weren’t sure if you wanted to be confused by how the former dark lord of evil could somehow attract people to his dojo or angry that he never bothered to visit. He knew where you were because your mum told you she talked to him a week ago. You didn’t know where he was because, well, how the heck were you supposed to locate your ex-adversary’s dojo in the middle of nowhere?
So where in Ninjago was Garmadon? You decided to wait and see if he’d decide to show up sometime before you perished of old age, but he never did. A few days passed, then a week, then another and another and another. You waited, hoping that maybe, just maybe, he might decide to show up and tell you he was sorry for being absent for ten and up years of your life, but why should you expect anything when your whole life had been a let-down?
Being the Green and Golden ninja practically meant holding up the sky. You had duties, a reputation, and an incompetent family to care for. Not only that, but being a teacher at Wu’s Academy meant wasting your life away in a classroom grading paperwork. Before that, you sacrificed yourself to defy Destiny and save Lloyd from all the trauma and heartache you currently dealt with, and even way before that, you were his stand-in parent for your absent father and mother. You were done wasting your thoughts on the false hope that you’d get what all your students had--a family with parents who were actually there for you.
“(Y/n)!”
That broke you from your thoughts. You turned in your chair to face Lloyd, pausing for a second to blink. It was still odd to see him so tall since he magically aged up, so it took a second for you to adjust to what you thought you’d see. “Do you need something?” you inquired. Lloyd shoved a gi in your arms. “Put that on and hurry. We need to go, like now!”
“Now? But the others? Are they still on that field trip or--?” Lloyd slammed the classroom door shut. “I’ll explain later, just hurry up!”
“Okay, okay!”
As soon as you’d finished changing, Lloyd took you by the hand and ripped open one of the windows. “We’re gonna have to jump.” He broke into a sprint, but you yanked him away from the window. “What do you think you’re doing?! We’re on the top floor!” He yanked you towards the window with a strength you didn’t know he even possessed.
“STOP LLOYD!” you shouted. “I SAID STO--!”
“Don’t use your elemental dragon!” he interjected. You were suddenly free-falling, clinging onto your brother like he were a stuffed animal. Oh, this was it wasn’t it? You’d die here, falling through a window as Lloyd reassured you you’d ‘be okay’. You screwed your eyes shut and wrapped your arms around Lloyd to break the fall, all the while preparing the goodbye speech you’d announce once you were dead.
The landing came, but the impact was softer than you expected. Lloyd let out a light chuckle as you opened your eyes and took in the sight of the Ultra Sonic Raider.
“Oh.”
He snickered at you, wiggling out of your tight embrace and climbing in a separate compartment. You settled into the familiar leather, strapping in and closing the hatch as Lloyd revved up the engine. He closed his own hatch, and just as you were about to ask him about what the heck was happening, he slammed the petal to the metal. You yelped as your head hit the back of your chair, gripping onto your seat belt for dear life. “Lloyd, you’re going over the speed limit!”
“Well I’m sorry I can’t abide by the law when we’re about to die!” he sarcastically exclaimed. “The Overlord’s back, and he’s after our power!”
Your eyes widened. The Overlord was back? That couldn’t be. You saw him die--he vanished into nothing, leaving only your father behind and nothing more. Not only that, but what did Lloyd mean by ‘we’? He didn’t have elemental powers. You took his place so he could be how you liked it: safe.
“What do you mean ‘our power’?” you grimly inquired. Despite taking the role as the Green Ninja, you knew that in theory it was possible Lloyd also inherited the same power you possessed since you were both A, siblings, and B, descendants of the First Spinjitzu Master. If he truly did inherit elemental powers, then all your hard work would have been for naught.
That was a scary thought.
“I,” Lloyd paused, heaving in a deep breath, “I have Golden Power.” Your heart stopped.
Golden Power.
Lloyd had Golden Power.
How were you supposed to keep him safe now?
You had the sudden urge to scream or do anything to let those in Cloud Kingdom know that you wanted to take the burden to your grave so Lloyd could have a better life than you. The burden would be miserable for you, but that was how you wanted it. Lloyd wasn’t supposed to share your burden, and you feared if he’d become as bitter as you. A sorrowful sigh left your lips as Lloyd frowned.
“There was a falling street lamp and Jay would’ve been crushed if I didn’t step in.” he said. “I don’t really know how I did, but there was this golden glow around my hands and then it hit the pole and made it explode. I’m sorry sis, are you mad at me?” His voice was softer than the time he apologised for spilling juice all over your favourite book. You shook your head, running a hand through your hair. “Lloyd,” you began, “I’m not mad, I just--I just wish I could have done more. Maybe if I...or...I could have....”
You gave up on trying to formulate a cohesive sentence, taking to shaking your head again. “I’m sorry Lloyd.” He huffed from the driver’s seat. “It’s not your fault that this happened. Maybe it was meant to be so that you wouldn’t have to deal with everything on your own.”
“Lloyd--”
“So what you’re my older sister? So what you’re supposed to take care of me? You’re always doing that no matter what it is, risking your life, your health, your freedom, your everything. You always forget that you’re still human even though you’re doing this and that.”
You sighed. “Lloyd, that’s because I have to. It’s my responsibility and--”
“So?” His voice shook. “I don’t want to be your responsibility anymore! You think I don’t see you stay up all night writing out how much you hate being the Green Ninja so no one has to hear you complain? You think I don’t see how much you keep giving until you’re left with nothing? The only reason why you hate dad is because you blame him for everything you’ve done.”
“I don’t blame him for my misfortune.” you icily retorted. “But it’s his fault for leaving. And because he left us, I wanted to make sure you grew up happy even without him and mom. I give so you don’t have to go through what I went through, but now look what’s happened. Destiny has been cruel and you’re the Golden Ninja just like me.”
The rest of the ride continued in silence, something you were unused to around your brother. He was a chatterbox and loved to talk about the latest issues of Starfarer, or the newest video games, but this time, his lips were sewn shut. He didn’t utter a word, and when you asked if he was heading back to the Bounty, he remained silent.
“Lloyd,” you gently said, “just tell me where we’re going.”
His grip on the steering seemed to tighten, a sign that he was nervous. “You’re gonna get mad if I tell you.” You huffed, crossing your arms and frowning. “I don’t have a reason to be angry because you haven’t told me yet.”
Another pause.
“You’re not gonna like this, but we have to stay here and lie low. The nindroids--they’re the guys who attacked us in the city--won’t be able to find us here.” He rounded a bend and stopped the vehicle. You opened the hatch and climbed out as Lloyd turned off the Ultra Sonic Raider. He followed after you, an apologetic look on his face as you made your way up a hill.
No explanation was needed; you knew exactly where you were. The only question that stayed in your mind was, ‘why?’. There could have been a hundred other locations to hide so much harder to find than here, yet the ninja just had to choose the one place you swore to never set foot in: your father’s dojo. Being in the same building as him was something you silently said you’d never do after waiting for him to visit you for months on end.
He was supposed to take initiative because he was your father, especially after everything he did.
You had the sudden urge to weep as Lloyd took you by the arm and dragged you along. Maybe you could wait outside for everyone, or sneak away to some remote village where you could go into hiding alone. As long as it was anywhere but here, you were fine.
Along the way, you passed Zane and gave him a wave. He smiled kindly as he always did, juggling the objects in his hands. “Did you run into any trouble along the way?” he inquired. Lloyd shook his head. “No, but I’m glad we didn’t because I don’t think I’m that good at driving yet.” You were about to interrupt and tell Lloyd you were staying out here, but he suddenly yanked you away from Zane and further up the hill. There was a beautiful waterfall behind the dojo that made you wonder how your father found such a serene place, but that thought left your mind as you stopped at the front doors.
You sucked in a sharp breath as Lloyd took your hand, giving it a good squeeze before sliding open the doors. Soft, yellow light flooded the darkness, drowning out the stars and moon. Your father stood in the middle of the serene room, staff in hand as he lectured the class. Kai and the others waved frantically from where they sat as Nya whispered for them to shut their faces. Your father followed their pointing and waving, raising a brow inquisitively until his gaze met yours.
“Ah,” he warmly said, “if it isn’t my daughter and son, so glad you could join us.” You curtly nodded while Lloyd broke into a full-on grin. “Dad! It’s great to see you again.” He smiled in return, motioning for you both to come in. “It’s wonderful to see you both as well. Take a seat wherever you’d like, the lesson was just about to start.” You closed the door behind you as Lloyd gladly made his way inside. You followed after him, taking in every bit of your surroundings as you could.
Jay motioned for you to take a seat on the floor between him and Cole. You swiftly sat down as Lloyd settled next to Kai. “Did you guys run into trouble?” whispered Jay. “We’ve been here way before class started!” Your father made his way around the room and sent Jay a look. “Silence!” He bonked him on the head, but not enough to injure your poor friend. You frowned, sending your father a disapproving look. He didn’t see it though since his back was turned.
“Close your mouth, and open your ears. Tonight’s lesson is the Art of the Silent Fist, to fight without fighting.” He turned to face everyone again. “May I have a volunteer?” The walls were suddenly real interesting for everyone, and you couldn’t blame them.
“(Y/n) would like to volunteer as tribute!” Lloyd piped up. Your jaw dropped and you looked over Jay’s shoulder with wide eyes. “No I--”
“The Ultimate Battle, round two!” he exclaimed. You sat there for a moment until you realised there was no getting out of it, so with a roll of your eyes, you stood, making your way to the middle of the room. Your father still had a warm smile on his face, but you didn’t return it. “Attack me,” he said, “but please, no powers, I happen to like my monastery.” There was a collection of giggles and snorts from his students that set you a bit on edge.
You rolled your eyes and threw a swift punch, aiming straight for his face. At the last second, Garmadon dodged and you ran straight into a wall. “You see?” he said. “The key is balance.” He set his staff on the ground to stand on its own before holding it again. “Let your opponent fight himself.” You gritted your teeth, this time throwing a roundhouse kick and then an uppercut. He dodged, and dodged, and dodged again. As you threw another punch, he yawned and that made you angry.
You threw a punch first, then a kick, and finally another kick, but he kept dodging. Heaving in a deep breath, you ran towards him, readying a kick to put this so-called ‘lesson’ to a close. At the last second, Garmadon bent over, taking your arm and tossing you over his shoulder like a sack of flour.
The world spun and you let out a groan. “Oh, (Y/n)...” mumbled Kai with a face-palm. The others followed, shaking their heads as you ran a hand over your forehead. “Pupils,” said your father, “I present to you the greatest ninja in all the land, the Golden Ninja.” There was a chorus of laughter that made your chest burn. You didn’t deserve that, or this, or the embarrassment leaking onto your face as you hauled your tired limbs off the floor. Nothing could have been worse than humiliation by the man you loathed.
Suddenly, you found yourself on that unforgiving sandy beach. You were on the Dark Island, preparing to prematurely confront your father before anymore harm could be done to you and the world. You couldn’t wait any longer, and so you had stepped in his way like an annoying fly that wouldn’t leave. You were going to end the imbalance once and for all.
“Easy, easy dear.”
You blinked away the haze from your eyes, the familiar voice grounding you in the present. Your hands were balled into fists and green light danced across your fingertips. When had your powers activated? You didn’t remember doing that.
“It’s only a lesson.” your father said. His voice was gentle, and there was a gleam in his eyes that made you falter for a fraction of a second. You saw regret on his face, but you weren’t about to stick around to confirm your observations. Your arms dropped to your sides and you let out a curt sigh. “Sorry.” Your tone was harsher than you wanted it to be. “Force of habit." You saw the ninja and Nya frown. "I think I’ll excuse myself from the lesson.” You respectfully bowed and silently made your way out the door, ignoring the calls of your friends.
The chirping crickets and gentle breezes of night helped ease the emotional pain building in your heart. You took a seat at the bottom of the stairs and placed your head in your hands. For a while, it was only you and mother nature savouring each other's presence. It left a lot of breathing room for you to think, so you did and reflected.
"May I ask why you are out here alone?" You met Zane's familiar eyes with a weak smile. "Hi Zane." He eyed the spot next to you. "May I?" You nodded and he sat down, adjusting his grip on the golden objects he tightly held. "What are those?"
"The Techno Blades gifted to us by Cyrus Borg before we were attacked. They can hack the system of a corrupted computer and are currently our only hope to defeating the Overlord." You nodded in understanding, allowing your shoulders to droop just a bit. "I can't believe he's back, it felt like only yesterday I defeated him."
"At times, one can forget to count the days." he softly said. You smiled as he scanned your face, taking in every single detail that cracked through your smile.
"What bothers you?"
You fiddled with your hands and shrugged. “It’s nothing, just...”
“Your father?” You nodded and Zane scooted closer to you. “It is only logical you are unused to his presence. You have been separated since you were very young, so it will take time to allow him into your heart again.”
You sat there in silence for a while, nodding in understanding as he offered a reassuring smile. The door of the dojo suddenly opened and Zane looked past your shoulder. He stood, taking the techno blades with him. “I will take my leave now.” You watched as he disappeared down the hill, sighing at the empty space by your side.
“Hello (Y/n).”
You jumped to your feet, balling your hands into fists like you were about to sock someone in the jaw. Your father closed the door behind and made his way down the steps as you relaxed your pose. “It’s just you.” you sighed out. Garmadon nodded. “Just me.” he confirmed. “About earlier--”
“It’s fine.” You turned your back to him, crossing your arms to hug yourself with an uncomfortable frown. He made his way down the stairs, taking a seat on the steps as you plopped down as far away as six feet could take you.
"The sky is quite beautiful tonight." You turned to Garmadon, raising a brow with a look of distaste as he kept his gaze focused on the stars. "When you were younger, you used to sit by your window every night," he smiled to himself. "You refused to go to bed because you were afraid of offending the stars amd moon."
You frowned, picking at a loose thread on your gi. "You remember that?" you quietly mumbled. He nodded, turning to face you with a sad smile. "Of course I do. How could I forget when that was your favourite pass time?" He paused, releasing a long sigh that really spoke of his age. "I know I have caused you and Lloyd so much suffering--something I wish I could reverse--but dwelling on the past won't change anything."
Dwelling on the past won't change anything? Now where have you heard that one? A bitter chuckle rattled past your lips. "Yeah, it's not like I spent everyday wishing you were there to give me the love and support I need. And it's not like I lost my childhood to take care of Lloyd and find a job when I was only fourteen and a half. I totally understand why it's best not to dwell on the past, but it's kinda hard when it's the reason why I'm who I am today."
You kicked at the ground absentmindedly, again avoiding the gaze of your father as if it were fire. "I don't understand why you're always absent. Even after the Final Battle, I've never seen you until now. At least mom stops by and drops something off, or sends post cards and photos of where she's been. She tells me she's missed me and writes letters, but you? I never hear anything--I've always heard nothing. Do you...do you even care?"
He sent you a heartfelt glance, but you ignored it, throwing a hand out to make a point.
"I probably shouldn't have expected anything because I'm always let down anyway. You've never seen this cartoon or movie? Well, course not, because I never had the luxury to sit down and take a break. How are your parents doing, are they coming to the school conference? Course not!" Your shoulders tensed and your breaths became shorter as anger finally took a hold of your heart. "One's been turned into an evil lord and the other's disappeared to find a way to stop a prophecy that could either make or break Ninjago from becoming a land of darkness! You know, I always dreamed of having a perfect, whole family, but that's never gonna happen, not when mum's always gone and you never, ever show up!"
You began walking down the last steps of the stairs, voice cracking as you continued. "I can't believe I began to hope something would change. How...how foolish of me."
You waited for Garmadon to say something, or anything really. Even if it was an insult, a scolding, or a yell, you would take it because then at least you'd remember how it felt like to have a parent tell you what was 'right' or 'wrong'.
Instead of shouting, he sighed.
"(Y/n)," he softly said, "there are three things I've been wanting to tell you for ages, but no matter how long I thought it over, I never found the right words until now." He paused and you kept your back facing him. "You have done all you could to protect Lloyd by defying Destiny to take his place. You became the Green Ninja to fight me and restore balance, then the Golden Ninja to defeat the Overlord and I combined. But now that Lloyd has begun to realise his powers, even you know that you cannot hold his hand much longer."
There was another pause that made your loud mind go insane. Why did he suddenly stop talking? Why had he gone quiet? Was he only saying this to make you feel bad for him?
You licked your chapped lips, clenching a fist. "Well? What's the third thing you wanted to say?"
"I am very proud of you."
Your heart seemed to weigh a ton as it sank in your chest and made your fingers go numb. You suddenly whipped around, marching back up the stairs with a look of disbelief on your face. "'I am very proud of you'?" you demanded. "You're just saying that! How can you be proud of a failure?" You placed a hand on your chest, giving it a good pat to throw your point across.
"I've...I've suffered and had to be a stand-in parent for Lloyd--heck, I even infiltrated Darkley's and pretended to be a boy just to w-watch over him!" You cursed your voice for cracking as you continued. "I hate you. I hate you for making me like this--for taking away my childhood and giving me all these burdens I can't carry! Everyday, I wondered if I was ever going to be able to save Ninjago when I knew I couldn't save myself. I've died a thousand times just to be who I am today, and I'm--" Tears streamed down your cheeks as you threw a hand over your face to hide your tears. "I--I can't..." You sniffled. "Where were you when I needed you dad?! When everyone else had someone, why did you...why did you leave me?" There was a moment of silence as you sniffled before warm arms were around your shoulders and hugging you tight.
"I wasn't there." admitted Garmadon. "I know I wasn't there when I should have been, even when I wanted to make it up to you. The truth is, I wasn't being responsible. I knew you would reject me, so I was a coward and feared the consequences of my actions." He hugged you tighter. "I love you (Y/n). I love you and Lloyd so much and I am more sorry for everything I've done than I can put into words."
And so you stood there in his arms, sobbing as he simply hugged you tighter. You didn't say anything, and maybe that was because you couldn't, so your father took the first step and released you from his arms, keeping a gentle hand on your shoulder. There were a few tears in the corners of his eyes but he smiled despite that. "It's almost dinner time. Why don't we head back inside?"
"Okay."

PRESS START | NINJAGO
Kai Smith x Reader
Tumblr media
A stranger keeps beating your high-score, until one day you find out who.
Tumblr media
Entering the old arcade, you felt an immense power of nostalgia overcome you.
Hearing the kids laughter and the sounds of beeping from the machines, you smiled to yourself knowing how much you missed this place. You wonder to yourself if anyone has yet to beat your high-score in any of the games, you chuckle remembering the old times when kids tried to surpass you, but failed.
Walking up to the counter, you ordered a few coins with a grin, knowing you wont be here for long.
‘Space invaders’ One of your many favourites, you tapped a button, making the screen light up in different pixelated colours, you darted your eyes over the names on the leaderboard.
You were in second.
You looked at the name above yours and smirked, ‘Kai’ is his name, you loaded up a coin in the slot and sat comfortably in the plastic chair. Automatically you pressed start and the game begun.
•••
You felt bad for the little kid, that ‘kai’ is probably crying knowing his high score was beat. It was the next day and you walked through the glass doors of the entrance to the arcade, some employees even greeted you, considering you’re a regular. Passing the shooting game you made a small glance over, seeing a guy about your age with spiked up brown hair. You paid no mind to it and continued to the counter to purchase some coins.
Once you got to the Space game, coins in hand, you realized the boy left, shrugging it off you sat in the seat once more with a flick of your finger on the big red button, the screen showed the leaderboard and your mouth agape.
Your high score was beaten once more by that ‘Kai’ guy.
You grumbled to yourself then with a smirk you started to chuckle, whoever this ‘Kai’ person was, you knew you were rivals. You decided to stop playing around and actually try your best in this game, your hand moving around the joystick, fingers pressing to eagerly shoot the targets, eyes darting across the big screen.
Left, right, right, left, up, left, down.
Moving your spaceship and shooting the targets.
•••
The next day, you came back to the arcade, once you entered the door you heard someone yelling to themselves. In curiosity you followed the voice which lead to the same game you’ve been playing the past few days. Seeing the same boy with spiky hair and a red hoodie on, he couldn’t seem to beat your high-score, he would either be 100 points off or lower, mostly 100. Reading the screen that announced game over, he dug his hand into his pocket but paused. Checking his other pockets frantically he realized he ran out of coins, giving up he entered his name onto the leaderboard.
Y/n
Kai
Your eyes widened and you felt your lips tugging up with a small chuckle, he tapped the enter button and saw his name in second place, getting up from his seat in defeat, he turned and saw you watching while leaning on a claw machine with your arms crossed. He tilted his head in confusion but then saw you walking up to him, being a few feet away from each other, you held your hand up for him to shake.
“Good game” You spoke out with a smug grin, his eyes widened in realization and he smiled with a fiery look in his eyes. “Good game indeed, you were quite the challenge” taking your hand in his, you both shook your hands and released from each other’s touch, chuckling with closed eyes you nodded towards him.
“Many years of experience I guess?” You shrugged with the same smile on your face.
After chatting with the hot head for a few hours along with a small hangout, it was quite fun going around the arcade and beating little kids.
But you knew you had a new rival and a new friend to compete with, or maybe a player 2.

𝓢𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: 𝗜𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗖𝗛..
Jay had come to realize he had fallen for Aelia even though she was in love with another.
Tumblr media
᭥ ★ The atmosphere was tense to Jay. It wasn’t as joyful as it was earlier as Jay watched Aelia get off her elemental dragon silently with red eyes. You could tell she was crying.
Aelia stood quietly as the others partied about their victory against the cursed realm; civilians praising the ninja, especially Nya for taking down the ghosts.
But despite everyone celebrating Jay knew something was wrong with the girl and the second they locked eyes he knew immediately.
Tears poured down the girls cheeks as her body shivered. Maybe she was cold? It didn’t matter, she had just experienced something she’d never wish to experience. The death of the man she loved.
Jay wanted to comfort her. To reach out to her. To hold her. But wait.. Why was he thinking of these things? He never thought such thoughts before. He was confused. Way too confused.
The male watched helplessly as Irena slowly approached Aelia. The second the girl got close to her Aelia ran into her arms and began sobbing, muttering unidentifiable words that the male couldn’t hear. But Irena heard them very clearly.
Jay wanted to reach out and comfort Aelia. He really did. He wanted to hold her and tell her everything was all right. He knew this feeling was something not to ignore. He knew it was something more than what he expected. But.. How could he express it to Aelia.
Jay knew Aelia was in pain because of Morro, the elemental master of wind. He knew something had happened between the two of them while she was kidnapped. He knew.. she had fallen for him..
But why? He wondered. Maybe it was to forget something.. Or someone. Jay had zero clue but at that current moment he felt like his heart was shattering at the sight of Aelia’s broken heart.
“Aelia.. Hey.. Let’s go inside and talk about this.. Okay..?” Irena soothed the weeping girl as she clung onto her best friends outfit. It was inevitable, she knew this was bound to happen. That’s what happens when you fall in love with a ghost..
Slowly walking past the male, Aelia sniffled quietly as she held her head down. She didn’t want Jay to see her in such a state. But.. Jay wanted to comfort her.. Badly.
“Aelia.. Wait-”
Irena glanced at Jay before shaking her head at the male, signaling that it was not the time. But.. Jay knew there was more to the look that she was giving him.. She was hiding something from him.. Something important that he should know..
Jay helplessly watched as the two girls walked out of his sight. A voice from behind him snapped Jay out of his running thoughts as he looked back to see his best friend, Cole, stare at him with a frown.
“You know.. She was in love with the guy. Anyone could tell…” Cole started as Jay looked down at his feet with a slow nod.
“I know.”
Cole stepped closer as he waved his hand in front of Jay’s face.
“You know.. This is partially your fault…”
Jay looked up at Cole in surprise as he stared in shock.
“Wait.. My fault..?” He slowly questioned as Cole nodded. Cole sighed before shaking his head.
“She loves you.. I’m not sure if she still does but.. Irena says she loves you.. Aelia does.. But you loved.. Nya.”
Cole paused slightly before frowning. It also reminded him of the time he liked Nya. But now he had Irena, but. She wasn’t entirely his. Not yet at least.
“Don’t let her go.. Jay.. Or you’re going to miss the opportunity and regret to.. Like i’m regretting it.”
Jay looked Cole in the eye as Cole looked back at him with a sad smile.
“Cole.. I…”
Cole shook his head again.
“Don’t feel bad for me.. You should worry about comforting Aelia.. She needs someone… She needs you.”
Jay nodded. Cole was right. He shouldn’t be standing here worried when he could be doing something for her.
“Thank you Cole.. And.. Please dont wait until it’s too late for Irena.. We all know how much you like each other…”
Before Cole could respond, Jay ran off towards the direction Irena and Aelia went, leaving the male to stand there before letting out a quiet laugh.
“You dork.. You’re right..”
꒷︶ ̇ ̟ ෆ ‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿ ෆ ̟ ̇ ︶꒷
Jay made his way through the crowd of civilians as he made his way towards the inside of the boat where Aelia and Irena were located. Making his way to the entrance he noticed the two girls.
Irena looked up at the male as she widened her eyes. But the sight of Jay made her smile as she motioned him to stay out for a second.
“Aelia.. I will be back in a minute. Hold still..”
Irena got up quietly from her spot as she made her way towards the entrance before patting Jays back.
“Good luck..” She whispered out to the male before she walked back to the deck of the boat leaving the two alone.
Jay felt his words get caught in his mouth as he slowly walked towards the girl who sat down on the floor with lifeless eyes. He didn’t know what to say. What could he say? The girl he felt connected to looked like a doll. Lifeless.
Bending down next to her, the male sat in Irena’s spot.
“Hey..”
Aelia didn’t move, nor did she look at him. She simply looked gone as she continued to stare down at the ground. Dried up tears were evident on her cheeks and her eyes were swollen.
“Aelia.. Please.. Look at me..” Jay muttered out. Aelia didn’t budge making Jay worry.
Placing his hand under her chin Jay tilted her face to look up at him. Aelia’s red eyes stared back into Jay’s. Her body was cold. Scarily cold. As if she had Zane’s elemental powers.
“Aelia.. I’m… So sorry..”
Aelia continued to stare at the male. Her face never making any changes in expressions as her eyes dart along his face. He was worried.
“I’m sorry I didn’t notice sooner.. I..”
Aelia blinked owlishly at the sudden revelation. What did Jay mean. She didn’t know.
The girl ran her tongue over her dry lips as she watched Jay’s eyes dart down towards them before immediately glancing back up at her.
“I..”
Aelia shook her head slightly..
“Don’t apologize.. You have.. nothing to be sorry for..” Aelia said hesitantly as he stared back at the male. She knew now what he meant but she wasn’t so sure..
“Everything.. It’s..”
Jay hurriedly placed his hand over her mouth as tears pricked his eyes.
“You’re wrong Aelia. Everything is not going to be okay so don’t say that to me!..”
Jay cupped Aelia’s face in both of his hands as tears began to run down his cheek.
“It’s not okay.. It’s not.. You loved him.. And…”
Jay paused making Aelia curiously glance at the male. His ears were
slightly red as he held her eye.
“It’s.. Its not okay.. You’re not okay..”
Aelia only nodded slowly, agreeing with the male’s words before placing her hands on the underside of Jay’s.
“You’re right.. It’s.. not okay..”
Jay hesitantly placed his forehead against the females as she sucked in a harsh breath.
“J-Jay..?” Aelia muttered out dumbfounded as she felt her face warm.
“Can we just.. Stay like this for a moment.. Please…” Jay begged out quietly making the girl pause before nodding quietly..
“We can..”
Jay felt relief wash over his body as he wrapped the girl in his embrace. He smiled into her hair as he held her close to his chest.
Aelia felt.. Safe.. In the males embrace.. It felt.. Right.. This felt right.. This moment felt right to her..
“Jay..” Aelia quietly muttered out.
Jay pulled away from the girl before he locked eyes with her. A confused glance on his face as she smiled at him.
“Thank you..”
Jay’s eyes sparkled slightly. He pulled Aelia back into his embrace with a smile on his face.
“Anytime.. Aelia...”

anything. | cole x reader
“This is it, guys,” Lloyd notes, green eyes studying the map anxiously as he leans back. “They have everything that they need, which means that we don’t have much time. We have to find whatever it is that they’re working on and destroy it.”
“The cameras that we’ve hid around Ninjago have picked up heightened activity at a certain warehouse,” Nya adds. “We think that’s where they’re working.”
“Here’s the plan. Me, Kai, Cole, and Zane are going to infiltrate the warehouse first. Jay and Nya, you two are going to keep an eye on the streets around the block. And as for you,” Lloyd turns to face you. “You’re going to keep an eye out from above. Make sure that the communicators in your hoods are working.”
You all nod, everyone pulling their hoods over their heads.
“Okay, what are we waiting for? Let’s do this!” Kai yells.
“NINJAGO!” the seven of you shout together. With that, you all set off for the deck of the Bounty.
You waste no time in leaping off of the edge, using bursts of wind underneath your feet to travel across the sky. You decide to expend the least amount of energy as possible, so you save your elemental dragon for later.
You follow the ninja’s dragons, easily able to keep up with the wind on your side. The breeze snaps past your body, granting you a sense of liberty. It surrounds you entirely – no ground to be found for miles below.
“The warehouse is not far,” comes Zane’s voice via the communicator. “But, we will need to land earlier in order to mask our presence.”
“There’s an alley just before it that you all should be able to land behind,” Pixal replies. “Zane, I have sent you the coordinates. Take the lead and show them.”
Zane’s dragon swoops in front of Lloyd’s, who slows down a little.
You notice that Cole’s being pretty quiet. Not unusual, but you think he’s deep in thought. You turn towards him, letting a blast of wind emanate from your palm. You use the momentum to land on the back of his dragon, immediately snaking your arms around him and hooking them around his torso.
Making sure that your communicator is muted, you set your chin on his shoulder. “Babe, are you doing okay?”
Normally, he’s all hopped up on that pre-fight adrenaline like you are – talking with everyone else, joking and speculating about how the fight may go. But something is different this time. Perhaps because this is going to be the deciding battle? You’re not sure.
You can feel how tense he is against your body. His dragon offers a low wail, making you think he’s somewhat apprehensive.
“Yeah,” he replies, tone quiet. You study what you can see at your angle, but you can’t see much because of his mask. “I just...I don’t know. This feels off.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t put my finger on it. Just...please, be careful?”
“I will if you will,” you mumble.
One of his hands come to grip yours, squeezing it. You snuggle your chin into the crook of his neck, listening as the wind whips past the two of you.
“I love you,” he mumbles.
“I love you too,” you respond, feeling his head lean on yours for a few moments. You notice the silence that has overcome the group as well.
“Will you stay until we get down?” he wonders, still holding your hand.
“Of course,” you respond, frowning.
From there, the group descends from the sky, all heading towards the roof of a building that’s hidden behind a skyscraper. Hopefully, the enemy won’t see you guys because of that.
The elemental dragons dissipate midair, allowing for the seven of you to leap onto the roof of the building. Cole hops down beside you, observing as the others sail down as well.
“Okay, everyone, get into position,” Lloyd states.
With that, Cole’s hand slips out of your grasp as he, Kai, Lloyd, and Zane all go to infiltrate the warehouse. Jay and Nya hop down the side of the building, both going to investigate the street. You, on the other hand, decide to get a better vantage point.
The skyscraper in front of you seems to be tall enough to work. With that thought in mind, you utilize your power to send you sailing up to the top, bursts of wind supporting your feet as you essentially climb the air.
When you reach the top, you latch one of your hands onto the side of the building, not yet wanting to climb over as your power dies down around you. You let yourself hang precariously off the side for a moment, your grip the only thing protecting you from gravity’s unforgiving grasp. The roads and buildings below you are so tiny now...like little dots or stripes all over a canvas.
You can’t help but grin; despite the seriousness of the situation, the adrenaline rush of being up high and in your element never failed to brighten your mood. Now reminded of the task at hand, you hoist yourself over the edge of the building, landing onto the roof with ease.
The breeze slips through the fabric of your gi, beckoning an army of goosebumps to arise all over your skin. You walk around the perimeter of the building, making sure to locate the warehouse where the ninja will be at.
Everything seems to be okay for the moment – the streets are running as normal, citizens carrying on as usual. You lean over the side of the railing for a moment, studying the warehouse. Nothing seems particularly off about it from your viewpoint.
“Everyone else in position?” comes Lloyd’s voice through the communicator. It’s just above a whisper, making you think they’re inside.
Jay’s static-laced voice is the next to sound: “Nya and I are ready!”
“I’m watching from a nearby skyscraper,” you affirm.
“Okay, good. We’re getting ready to breach the building. Keep a close eye out,” Lloyd instructs.
“You got it,” Jay responds.
With that, you simply observe for a few minutes. Nothing much of interest happens, and the others are being silent on the communicator. Paired with how quiet it is, that makes you think that they’ve successfully entered without being caught.
Suddenly growing antsy, you turn to take a look at the other side of the city. Similarly, nothing out of the ordinary is occurring.
Just as you’re about to stride back over to the warehouse side, a flurry of motion catches your attention from your peripheral vision. You twirl back around.
“Huh?” you mumble to yourself, watching as something rises in the distance. It seems to be a tower of sorts...no surprise there, but it looks like it’s...getting taller? And wider?
You frown, leaning on the edge of the building. What is that? It looks like it’s on the outskirts of the city.
“Jay, Nya...do any of you guys see what I’m looking at?” you question.
“No, what?” Nya answers. “Where?”
“It looks like some kind of tower. But it’s expanding, growing taller,” you note, frowning as it swivels to face the city. Suddenly, a horrid feeling creeps through you. “Wait...”
“Guys!” Kai’s voice yells, heavy static obscuring his words. It thickens as he speaks: “...was a trap...can’t get out...need to find...tricked us!”
“A trap?” Jay wonders.
You observe as four metal panels slide open on the tower, revealing some sort of machine. Eyes widening, you instantly leap into action, hopping over the edge and using your wind to dash across the air, straight towards the cannon.
“Jay, follow her! I’ll try to get the others!” Nya says. You can barely hear her because of how loud the wind is, but either way it doesn’t matter. You have to get there before the enemy’s plan succeeds.
So, they’d really thrown you all off this whole time. You’ll admit – it’s probably the smartest plan a villain has had in a long while. They’d completely thrown you off their tail this whole chase.
Even so, they’ve made one mistake – you, Jay and Nya are still free. You can still prevent a disaster.
It doesn’t take you long to arrive at the building. Using the wind to break your fall, you land just past the gated fence. The skyscraper spirals upwards before you, mechanical whirring coming from within.
You watch as the very top expands into what appears to be some sort of giant weapon. A cannon? It kind of reminds you of Garmatron in a way.
“Ninja!” someone yells. You spot a bunch of goons spilling out from the entrance, all armed. “Get her!”
You swing your arm out, sending a strong gust of wind barreling towards them. It hurdles all of them backwards, all smacking the wall roughly. It seems as if the impact has knocked them out thankfully.
But...what in the hell can you possibly do now? They most likely have everything they need completely set up if they’re only revealing themselves to you now.
In other words, there’s not much you can do.
Your breath becomes stuck in your throat as you see magic energy swelling up into a ball at the tip of the cannon. The shot is already charging, and it’s aimed directly at the city!
Immediately, you swivel your head around to survey your surroundings. Ahead is a building that’ll get you high enough to suit your only idea.
In an instant, you’re climbing up the air with the wind blasting from underneath your feet. It only takes you a moment to ascend the side of the building, leaping over the railing to the roof.
You turn to face the cannon, watching as the blast gradually charges. With both hands now out to your sides, you close your eyes.
Center yourself.
The breeze lifts slightly, swirling around you as your fingertips curl. Once you feel a deepened connection with your element, you funnel your protectiveness into the spell.
Now with your emotion woven between the seams of the wind, it snaps into something stronger. Its circumference multiplies, blocking the cannon’s path.
Already you can feel your power weakening, but you don’t dare back off. Not now of all times. Despite being strained, you force yourself into a surge of Spinjitzu – the most emotionally charged burst that you’ve ever performed. The urgency of the situation causes the tornado to spiral, forming a wind barrier that cuts through the atmosphere at a dangerous speed.
From somewhere, you can hear a faint boom. But your surroundings are blurring together, the wind howling far too loud for you to be able to hear anything else. Against your barrier, you can feel rancid energy throwing everything it has at you.
But you push harder.
A raw scream rips from your throat as the wind swirls faster, effectively cutting through the dark magic of the shot before it has a chance to pass you.
Numbness creeps through your body as you feel yourself aligning with the wind; whispers of past masters echo within the confines of your conscience, too garbled to make any sense.
Your vision becomes blinded by a sea of white, feeling now completely gone as you realize that you’re too consumed to return.
But that’s okay.
As the dark magic fades to nothing, you find yourself slipping past the force that lies beyond. The wind gradually fades to a stop, reverting the atmosphere to its normal state as you find yourself standing once more.
Calm overcomes you as you study your surroundings.
...What had you been doing?
You stand there for a moment, finding your memories jaded as the numbness recedes, now replaced with...longing. A burning desire to be where you belong.
Commotion emanates from the road below you, but you find that you don’t particularly care about it. Your interest lies in the horizon.
Now free from the confines of mere physicality, whole with the element you have come to love...
Nothing is holding you back from joining the sky, seeing what the world has to offer...
Still in an anthropomorphic shape, you step onto the ledge of the building. You glance down, at first studying the height and then your hands.
You are the Wind.
Just as you’re about to step over the edge, voices resonate from behind you.
“You did it!”
You turn to face the group before you, all staring at you expectantly. Yes...you recognize these people. Your previous friends.
The one in black – Cole – emerges first. “You’re okay!”
He attempts to embrace you, but to no avail – the wind composing your body simply disperses as he passes through you.
“Ha, that's gonna take some getting used to. But we'll figure out a way to change you back. Don't worry,” Kai assures, stepping forward next to the others.
“Back?” you wonder.
“To normal. You know, the old you,” Jay answers, face falling in confusion alongside Cole’s.
“Normal?”
“Hey...what’s wrong?” Cole questions, now directly in front of you as you stare at him blankly.
Then, you hear it again – those enticingly mysterious whispers. They beckon you to join them in an eternal adventure throughout the sky. You turn to glance at the horizon longingly.
“Do you hear it?” you question, ignoring Cole’s query as you stare at the sky.
“What?” Cole wonders.
“The wind. It's so much louder now. So powerful. More powerful than I could have imagined... I must go.”
“Go? Wait...no. You can’t. Listen, you have to focus. Concentrate. We’ll figure something out!” Cole pleads, trying to touch you once more.
You stare at him. How have you become so faded in what you feel? Either way, the distress on his expression prompts you to take one of his hands in yours, the other settling on his cheek in an attempt to comfort him somewhat.
His stare begs you to remain, with unshed tears lining his eyes. “Please? I...I need you. More than you could ever know.”
Still, you don’t respond. You gently pull your hand out of his grasp, turning to face Wu as he approaches you:
“I implore you. Whatever you're hearing, whatever you're experiencing. Fight it! Remember who you are. Remember.”
You smile slightly. “I am the wind. And we are one.”
With that, you turn to face the sky, your back towards them.
“Wind guide you, my friends. Su’um ahrk morah.”
With that, you leap off of the edge, instantly merging with the wind as the calls of the people behind you fizzle out to nothing.
…
First his mom.
Now you.
Cole finds himself blankly staring at a picture posted on one of the walls in the monastery. It was of you and him – taken by Nya one day while the group had been cleaning. You had jumped on his back, like you always would. Both of you were smiling.
Cole finds his thoughts racing back to the same what-if scenarios he’d been contemplating for the last few hours. Why didn’t he insist on staying with you? What had they missed that led them here?
For a moment, he continues pondering on them when he feels a hand grabbing his shoulder lightly. Cole blinks, a few tears slipping out of his eyes before he turns to find his dad standing next to him.
“Dad...” Cole mutters, suddenly finding his throat too tight for him to speak.
Lou’s expression softens as he studies Cole, moving in to hug Cole a few seconds later. The Master of Earth returns the embrace, trying to hold back his tears to no avail.
The two simply remain in embrace for a few moments as dread washes over Cole. Lou doesn’t falter with the strength of the hug, either.
“I’m sorry, Cole,” Lou whispers. “I’m so sorry.”
Cole finds his throat too tight to speak momentarily as his mind desperately searches for some kind of response.
But for a few seconds, he can’t.
“Dad?” Cole wonders, trying not to let his voice break.
“Yes?”
“Can I...come home with you for a little while? I just...I don’t know if I can be here. I need time away, I think.”
Lou’s expression softens as he nods. “Of course you can, son. You can stay as long as you want.”
“Thank you,” Cole replies, choking up slightly. “I’ll go pack.”
“Take all the time you need. I’ll be here waiting.”
With that, Cole makes his way towards his room. Everything around him suddenly feels too stifling to bear. The remnants of your energy are scattered everywhere, and it suffocates him. The feeling only strengthens its chokehold over him as he passes your room, unable to glance inside.
Once he makes it to his room, he spends a few minutes shoving clothes and other belongings into his duffel bag. He finds that his thoughts are entirely focused on the process of packing, doing his best to ignore the tears pooling in his eyes.
When he finishes, he takes a glance around before zipping the bag shut. After tossing the strap over his shoulder, the sound of a soft knock catches his attention.
Cole pauses, turning slowly.
There, he spots the Smith family gathered solemnly before him.
“Hey Cole,” Kai greets softly, offering a hesitant nod.
“We know you’re about to go, but...we made something for you. All of us. As our...tribute to her. But we think you should have it,” Nya explains, offering Cole a rectangular, black box.
After taking a second to secure the strap of his bag around his shoulder, Cole takes the box gingerly. He removes the lid, breath hitching at the sight of the item.
It’s a windchime – an intricate one, at that. Glass and aluminum sculptures cascade down from the top, all depicting different symbols.
“It’s beautiful,” Cole murmurs, tracing a finger over it. “Thank you.”
“We’re so sorry, Cole,” Nya mumbles, immediately going to hug Cole. The earth elemental returns the embrace, closing his eyes as a few tears run down his cheeks.
Thank you,” he whispers as she pulls away.
“Let us know if you need anything,” Kai adds, pulling Cole in for a brisk hug as well.
“I will,” Cole replies, nodding towards Ray and Maya. “Thank you all.”
“Travel safely, Cole,” Nya adds.
…
A few weeks pass.
Cole finds himself outside one morning, deep in the forest that’s close to his childhood home. After a few minutes of hiking, he finally arrives at his destination.
“I can’t believe it’s still together,” he mumbles, spotting his old makeshift, childhood fort that he’d built years ago.
It’s nothing much – just an old blanket strung between three trees to make an impromptu tent. It covers a small area between the trees, including a foldable chair and a flat tree stump that serves as a table.
Everything looks so much smaller than I remember, Cole thinks as he sets his case and bag down, glancing at the chair. He tilts it down in order to swipe off the dirt and leaves that have collected on it.
Once that’s done, he sits down slowly, glancing around. The place hasn’t changed much since he last came here – not that it’s much of a surprise. Eventually, Cole spots a short but thick branch within arm’s reach.
Suddenly reminded of the purpose of his visit, he pulls his bag onto his lap. After unzipping it, he takes out the box that the Smiths gave him. He opens it, gingerly pulling the windchime out.
Cole gently slips the loop over the branch, watching as his hands leave the item to make sure it doesn’t slip. Fortunately, the grip stays secure when the wind tousles the dangling bits slightly. In the sunlight, the metal and glass parts sparkle softly.
His eyes linger on the chime momentarily, watching as it starts to emit a soft jingle upon being caressed by the wind. He closes his eyes, listening to its song
A few moments later, Cole bends down to unlatch the case bearing his old guitar. He’d found it stashed within the closet of his childhood room earlier, which is when the idea to come out here occurred to him. As his gaze sweeps the object, he swallows a soft lump in his throat, not allowing his thoughts to wander just yet.
As Cole lifts the instrument out of the case, a whelm of emotion floods him – hints of nostalgia mixed with grief and acceptance. His mother used to use this guitar – she would play him songs when he was little. The memory elicits a smile to cross his face as he sets it on his lap, the familiar weight comforting him slightly.
The wind picks up, causing the windchime’s hum to be joined with the canopy of leaves overhead. Cole listens for a second before deciding to join in. In an attempt to become reacquainted with his former hobby, Cole’s fingertips pluck a few strings.
As he does so, he eventually grows more confident and begins playing a song by memory. At first, he simply hums the lyrics, still somewhat scared to sing. Though, as he continues, he finds himself relaxing as he starts to sing quietly, opening his voice to the earth and wind.
Cole finds himself in a state of thoughtlessness – only softly singing while listening to the windchimes’ addition to his makeshift song. At some point, he even unconsciously imagines you next to him, quietly singing along in place of the chime.
As he finishes, Cole props the guitar against a nearby tree, rubbing a stray tear off of his cheek. He reaches inside his pocket to fish out a picture of you – one taken by Zane a while back.
“I miss you,” he mumbles, tracing the image slightly.
Cole sighs, setting it back in his pocket as he feels his eyes welling up with tears again. The thought occurs to him that you could be anywhere in the sky by now. What were you doing? How much of your identity was lost during the transformation? Would he ever be able to see you again?
He doesn’t know, and he might not ever know. But he had learned a lesson from his mother’s death, and that was to continue fighting no matter what.
Cole allows another set of tears to spill. Deep down, he understands that he needs time to grieve and reset. He’ll return to the monastery once he’s ready. But now is the time for him to rest and begin healing.
So, with a heart not as heavy, Cole packs all of his items back up, heading back to his father’s house for the day.
…
One stormy day, Cole finds himself seated within the old theater in their town, watching as his father’s quartet rehearses an upcoming performance on the stage. The group dances in unison, Cole grateful to see Lou’s relaxed expression as he dances about with his friends.
The raven-haired Master of Earth studies their movements carefully, knowing the quartet would want his feedback if needed.
Too engrossed in the performance, Cole misses the sound of the door opening. Two sneaky pairs of footsteps pad down the aisle leading to each row of theater seats, eventually turning into Cole’s row.
Upon spotting two silhouettes nearing him in his peripheral vision, Cole turns.
“Hey!” whispers Jay in a hushed tone, grinning alongside Nya. “Don’t mind us!”
Nya rolls her eyes, the two sitting down next to Cole. “We’ll wait until they’re finished. Now shush, Jay!”
Cole chuckles, turning his attention back to the performance. Had they really come all this way to see him?
Soon enough, the rehearsal comes to a stop as the Royal Blacksmiths pose at the end, all donning goofy grins. The three ninja stand, offering a round of applause.
“Your hard work has really paid off,” Cole notes as the four men descend the stage. “That was better than last time. Not nearly as many mistakes.”
“Mr. Brookstone! That sounded awesome!” Jay chirps from next to Cole.
“I really liked how you transitioned each song in the medley,” Nya adds.
“Ah, if it isn’t Jay and Nya! Thank you, thank you. We’re glad you all enjoyed the show. What brings you two this way?”
“We came to see Cole,” Jay answers. “You know. Ninja stuff.”
“Right,” Lou acknowledges with a chuckle, walking towards the rest of the quartet. “I’ll leave you three to it, then.”
“Thanks, Dad,” Cole calls, watching as the group enters the backstage area before it goes quiet.
“It’s good to see you, Cole! Sorry we came in kinda unannounced,” Jay starts as Cole turns to face the couple.
“No worries. You know my dad loves having an audience,” Cole replies, shrugging.
“How have you been?” Nya inquires as they sit down again.
Cole smiles smally at the question. “I’m…better now.”
“We’re glad,” Jay adds, his voice lowering. “We’ve been kinda worried, because…well, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Cole notes. “I started doing miscellaneous work around town to keep busy, so I haven’t had as much time to check in.”
“We understand,” Nya assures. “But, something’s come up back home.”
“Wait, really? What?”
“We’ve received word about a group of criminals attempting to smuggle suspicious amounts of Vengestone throughout Ninjago City,” Jay answers.
“Vengestone? That can’t be good,” Cole mumbles, frowning. “Do you know who’s behind it yet?”
“Remember Miss Demeanor?” Nya prompts. “It’s her. She and a few other goons.”
“But that’s not even the worse part!” Jay cries, eyes widening. “There’s a new group of ninja out there! They’ve been stealing our thunder ever since!”
“And people have been wondering where we are. Though, it’s been a year since we’ve seen any action, so I can’t say I blame them,” Nya remarks. “But, I have to admit, the idea of a new group of ninja just irks me.”
“New ninja? That sucks,” Cole mumbles.
“But, what we’re getting at is…we want you to come back home with us, Cole,” Nya adds. “We have a new threat on our hands, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to stand around and let these tryhard imposters handle it.”
“Yeah,” Jay adds. “We’re going to go find Kai and Lloyd, too.”
“What about Zane?” Cole questions.
“He, Pixal, and Wu are back at the monastery,” Nya explains.
“I see,” Cole trails off for a moment. Part of him likes the peaceful life he’s built for himself here over the past year, but another part of him is ready to go back. To return to the life of a ninja. To protect those who cannot protect themselves.
And he knows that you would be the first person to kick his ass into gear if he were to remain while there were people to be helped.
“Okay,” Cole decides, expression hardening. “Let me go home and pack. I’ll come.”
…
[Somewhere in Ninjago...]
The whispers became clearer after a while.
And you could hear them – the previous masters of wind, their shared memories with their elements all surging within your ethereal mind as you surfed the winds, never once touching the ground.
There was one voice that was...familiar to you – almost akin to a rush of déjà vu, yet somehow stronger. Some of the names were familiar – they would tug at distant memories, but not quite hard enough to bring any to light.
Their strength fades with every passing day, though, and at some point you simply stop worrying about it.
That is, until you find yourself hovering above Ninjago City one night, watching as the citizens gather for a celebration of some sort below.
Intrigued, you land on the roof of a nearby skyscraper, leaning over the edge to observe. In their hands, they bear orange objects.
“It’s a remembrance ceremony.”
You turn upon hearing the new voice, spotting the only other entity you had met in the sky – the only other entity like you. You don’t know his true identity, just that he has been lost to the wind for far longer than you have.
“A ceremony...” you repeat, turning back towards the crowd below. “I see.”
The entity steps closer towards you. “I am glad that you are here. There is something I must ask you.”
“What is it?”
“For some time now, I have been observing you. The other day, you intercepted a rooftop altercation and saved a man from falling to his death. Tell me: why do you save them?”
You pause for a moment, thinking through your answer. Do you save people because it’s right? Well, that must be part of it, but something about that seems...lacking. Incomplete. And you don’t understand why. It’s on the tip of your tongue, except you know you won’t ever be able to understand why by yourself.
For the moment, though, you elect to keep your thoughts to yourself. “Because...it is the right thing to do.”
He seems aware of your hesitancy. “I sense there is more to it than that. After all, we are merely an aspect of nature. Right and wrong do not exist within our territory, yet still you insist upon interfering with human activity.”
“But it feels wrong to me,” you mumble. “And I think there is something I’m missing. Something I’ve lost that has to do with myself.”
“Then find it,” he encourages, the two of you watching as the lanterns begin floating up. “Perhaps the truth is closer than you think.”
“Where would I even begin searching?” you question, trailing off as the lanterns float closer to the skyscraper’s edge.
“Heed their words,” he answers. “You will find what is missing below.”
With that, the entity dissipates, leaving you to figure out what he means. Hm...below. Did he mean the lanterns?
You reach over the edge, grasping one of the lanterns and pulling it closer. It appears to have a message on it, addressed to a name that feels familiar, followed by:
Thank you for stopping that blast of dark magic! Our city would have been torn to pieces if it weren’t for you!
You repeat that name, releasing the lantern. You say it again as you go to grasp another one:
Thank you for saving me and my mommy! I’m sure your friends will miss you, though. But you saved us all. Thank you!
That name. It keeps appearing, again and again, lantern after lantern. Something is on the tip of your tongue, but still you feel that what you’ve learned isn’t quite enough to tip the scales in your advantage.
You continue reading them, all of the messages along the same caliber before you come across one that sticks out to you:
We all appreciate your sacrifice. Without you, Ninjago would have been destroyed. I bet Cole really misses you.
“Cole...”
That’s the name that triggers something. You narrow your thoughts in on that portion, jumping off of the building and going to zip across the sky so you can think about it more clearly.
For a moment, you simply let yourself fall. As you contemplate the name, your form dissipates into the snapping bands of wind around you. An image conjures within the back of your mind – a group of people, their tauntingly familiar faces eating away at that strange wall blocking something.
“Who are they?” you wonder, pushing against that block harder. Even still, it tries to continue its lasting suppression.
But you push even harder.
And finally, like a dam...
...it snaps, allowing heaps of memories to crash through all corners of your mind.
You’re not sure how long it takes you to process it all. You find yourself drifting aimlessly among the skies, sorting through all of the memories and trying to make sense of everything.
But one thing is clear to you – you have to get back. You must find a way to return.
But how?
Your answer hits you a moment later, a mental image piecing together – one of a home long forgotten; a refuge that you had, at one time, known like the back of your hand. It makes sense that they would gather there, right?
Mind set, you begin traveling in the direction of the monastery.
…
Cole sighs, yanking his mask off as the team enters the hangar bay. He runs a gloved hand through his sweaty, tangled hair, using the fabric of his mask to wipe away a few beads of sweat. Damn, he’s more out of practice than he thought.
The others aren’t in any better shape, all sporting defeated expressions as the group processes what had just occurred.
Lloyd is the first one to say what the entire team is thinking: “Ex-ninja? Old-timers? Who do they think they are?!”
“The New Ninja of Ninjago City,” answers the uncaring voice of Zane. “And their arrival was fortuitous. Without their help, it is likely we would have been defeated. I calculate our odds—”
Zane is interrupted as a sudden sound pierces the relative silence of the background – something akin to a distant, shrill whistle. Had it come from within the walls?
The team studies the ceiling for a moment, the sound droning on for a few more seconds before subsiding.
“What was that?” Jay speaks up hesitantly, eyes nervously flicking back to the team.
“Sounded like the wind,” Kai adds. “But...it wasn’t windy when we came inside, right?”
“No, it wasn’t. Not to mention that we’re fully underground now,” Cole mutters.
“I think it came from the vent. Everyone quiet down for a second,” Nya instructs, snatching a flashlight from one of the nearby tables. She approaches the vent, stare scrutinizing as she aims the beam of light inside. “Well, there’s nothing that I can see. But the draft is strong...stronger than it should be.”
The group quiets down once more as the whistling returns, this time even louder. Nya shuts the flashlight off, backing away as the ninja ready themselves.
The vent begins to shake violently, the whistling only increasing in volume.
“Hangar bay sensors are detecting a breach in security,” Zane notes.
“Did the sensors pick up any signs of life?” Jay questions.
Zane shakes his head. “It is some kind of foreign entity. I cannot tell what exactly it is because the readings are unclear. Be ready.”
This causes the group to quiet down, zeroing in on the vent. Moments later, something just...pours out of the opening.
A pool of gray smoke puddles underneath the vent, the substance almost seeming...alive, in a way.
“What the hell?” Kai mutters, stepping forward to observe it. “Is that...smoke? Why is it moving?”
But something about the way the smoke is moving catches Cole off guard, leaving him to continue watching as the others start speculating. Something about it seems...familiar, in a strange way.
That feeling only strengthens as the substance starts to mold itself into an anthropomorphic shape, bands of wind snapping together to form the same figure he hadn’t seen in a year.
Cole crouches near the figure, catching the attention of the others as he says: “Guys...wait, look. It’s not smoke.”
The earth elemental’s eyes remain locked on the figure as the wind finally finishes taking shape. Cole shoves his aching heart to the side as he whispers your name, gently testing the solidity of your form by pressing his hand against yours.
Like last time, it passes through, but the interaction seems to catch your attention. You look up at him, the close angle giving Cole the perfect chance to study you.
Despite being entirely composed of wind, he can still see your expression clearly; you’re straining yourself, trying to focus on speaking without breaking concentration.
“C...Cole...?” you mumble, voice ethereal as your eyes widen slightly. “Is it...is it really you?”
“Yes, yes, baby, it’s me,” Cole answers, tone almost frantic as he strains to listen to your quiet voice. Your form suddenly solidifies enough for him to touch you, allowing him to take you into his arms.
“I...I r-remember now,” you stutter, raising a hand to cup his cheek. “I...need your help.”
“Tell me, sweetheart. Tell me what you need me to do. I’m here,” Cole replies, fingers covering yours.
“There’s a...way back,” you explain, voice straining. “Need to drain...my powers...I c-can't hold this form-”
Cole feels his heart lurch as two pairs of hands pull him away, eyes widening. “No, wait!”
His objections fall on deaf ears as he watches your form turn from that translucent white to the signature, icy blue of Zane’s element.
“Apologies, but freezing her was the only way to maintain her form,” Zane explains, stepping forward to study you.
“She’s...she’s okay, right?” Cole wonders, your frozen body still on the floor.
“Affirmative. In her gaseous state, she should experience no damage. She said she needed to drain her powers, yes?”
“Yeah, that’s what she said, but...that’s impossible, right? There’s no way we can undo whatever spell she performed,” Cole responds, a hand on his forehead.
“No. It's not. Kai had his powers taken away. Remember?” Lloyd interjects as Cole takes a moment to process what his teammates are saying.
Kai nods, eyes downcast at the memory. “Yeah. I remember. Real well. And if you're thinking what I think you're thinking—”
The brunet’s suggestion causes Cole’s understanding to click into place.
Aspheera. She can take away your power. She can save you.
Cole frowns upon remembering that Aspheera is imprisoned, and it would be risky to break her out – especially with those new ninja prowling about. So many things could go wrong...
...but if it worked?
Then...you could come back. For good.
Sensei Wu interrupts this time, having been unusually quiet during the ordeal. “That is out of the question. There has to be another way!”
Lloyd approaches his uncle, coming to a sudden realization. “Master Wu. You spent the last year searching for a way to bring her back. Have you found anything? Anything at all?”
The old man releases a hefty sigh, shaking his head. “I have not.”
“Sensei...” Cole starts, approaching him with pleading eyes. “After all she did...for us, and for the city. This could be the only chance that we have to save her.”
Through Wu’s firm glare, however, Cole takes note of the pain lurking underneath. The exhaustion of hunting for another way, the pain of losing one of his pupils. Even Wu is breaking, despite his next rejection: “This is a mistake! Aspheera can't be trusted! If we let her out of prison, even briefly, lives will be at risk. I...I cannot be a part of this.”
“But, Uncle,” Lloyd argues, eyeing your fallen self. “Everyone is safer with her back!”
“No doubt, this is going to be one of the riskiest missions we’ve ever decided to take,” Nya notes. “And whatever we decide to do...we have to decide as a team.”
“So...are we still a team, then?” Cole wonders, letting the question linger momentarily.
Everyone’s head turns to Lloyd, who proposes the decision:
“All in favor of going after—”
Before he can even finish, the entire team has their hand raised. A sense of relief floods Cole as Lloyd nods, the gravity of the next mission settling in as everyone comes to understand what must be done.
The blond nods as everyone lowers their arm. “Okay then. It's decided. We go get Aspheera, and save her.”
With that, the group disperses after collectively deciding to try and ask the mayor for help first before jumping into any drastic decisions. As everyone goes to gear up, Cole takes the opportunity kneel next to you again.
Tears line his eyes as he gently traces your fingers, wishing he can hold your hand, but scared of his body heat potentially speeding up the melting process.
“Don’t worry about a thing, love,” he mumbles. “I don’t care what I have to do. I’m going to get you back.”
…
You can't move.
No matter how much you try, you’re stuck – frozen, you think. The energy lacing the ice encasing you is familiar; it prevents you from losing your shape. You don’t think you’d be able to reassemble yourself if it melted due to the lack of elemental wind energy present in the bay.
Your vision is completely covered in ice, unable to see anything clearly; silhouettes dip in and out of your vision, sometimes accompanied by muddled voices. If you listen closely enough, you can make out patches of what they’re saying if they’re close enough.
The one you cling to most is Cole’s. He visits you when he can between missions, promising that he’s going to find a way to turn you human again. You wish he could stay with you longer, but are grateful that he’s working so hard to help you.
You have no idea how much time has passed. For the most part, you just feel...cold. You yearn to regain your sense of touch, realizing that you’ve nearly forgotten what it feels like.
At some point, you start to hear...shouting? You can’t quite discern who is speaking, but it seems as if the entire team has returned. More commotion ensues, to the point where you find yourself overwhelmed trying to understand what’s happening.
But...something’s happening.
A sharp vibration instantly snaps the ice off from around your figure, a string of purple light encompassing you. You’re forced off of the ground, a newfound energy clawing its way between you and your elemental power while your vision is completely flooded with purple light. Little by little, the wind that you had grown so accustomed to wielding starts dwindling.
Part of you instinctively latches onto the bit that remains, but the immense power of the spell overwhelms your last bit of control on it.
And then? Your wind is gone. Just like that.
But...that’s not all. The purple abruptly stops, and a loud noise sounds from somewhere near you. A chorus of shouts echo within the bay as the spell releases you.
Blinding lights are the first thing you notice, followed by your body crashing to the ground. The breath in your lungs (if there was any there to begin with) is knocked out, leaving you struggling to breathe. Your skin is burning with the remnants of the spell, paired with the sudden sense of solidity underneath you.
You try to suck in a breath again, but your muscles still won’t obey you.
Suddenly, someone is hovering above you. You realize Cole has swept you into his arms, and he’s trying to tell you something.
“Breathe, baby, breathe. In through your nose, out through your mouth,” he instructs, his voice an anchor of familiarity amidst the chaos of your surroundings.
After a few tries, you’re able to inhale deeply.
“That’s it, there you go. Keep breathing. You’re okay. You’re safe now,” he promises, his spearmint eyes glassy with unshed tears.
“C...Cole...” you drawl, still trying to become reacquainted with your physical body. “Thank...thank you...”
“I told you I’d do anything for you,” he mumbles, dropping his head so that he can press a soft kiss against your lips. You close your eyes, savoring that missed feeling of your lover against you.
More voices – these unfamiliar – start speaking, causing Cole to shift his attention elsewhere. You watch as his expression morphs into one of disappointment, turning back to face you.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart, but I have to go,” he mumbles. “I’ll be back as fast as I can, but Skylor and Sensei are going to take care of you until we get things sorted out.”
“No...p-please stay!” you choke out, now able to move your hand to clutch his.
“Your friends are being arrested for breaking into Kryptarium Prison and freeing a felon!” announces some punk in a teal gi. “We don't have any reason to arrest you three. Yet. But I warn you: we're watching you. And if you give us any reason to even think you're following the ninja's example, we'll be back. And you will face the New! Ninja! Smoke bomb!”
“Don’t worry about it, love,” Cole states with a sad smile. “We’ll figure something out, okay? I love you.”
“I love you too,” you say as he releases your hand.
With that, the ninja are taken away, leaving you with Skylor, Pixal, and Sensei Wu. Cole breathes a heavy sigh of relief, knowing that you’ve returned and will recover.
“I hope it was worth it, criminal,” sneers the pink ninja.
“It was,” Cole states, glancing back at you one last time before sharing a small, victorious grin with the team. “For her... I’d do anything.”

Sunshine spills over your desk as you gaze out of the window, eyes scanning the horizon splayed beyond the smudged glass as your mind ventures through all of the activities you’d be doing if you weren’t in school at the moment.
The room is quiet, save for the muffled music emanating from someone’s headphones as the class finishes the daily journaling prompt. Your eyes quickly glance down towards your finished entry, no other words coming to mind. Instead of adding more, you elect to add a few doodles to the side of your paper.
About a minute passes before the teacher stands, a stack of papers in her hands. “Alright, everyone! Journaling time’s over. Today, we’re going to be preparing for our first Socratic Seminar. So, please partner up! No one is allowed to work alone!”
You sigh softly upon hearing this, watching as your classmates partner with each other. Stars, you hate this aspect of school. You probably won’t even need a partner for this!
The chatter kicks up a notch as people start looking for partners before clearing into their respective seats. You remain at your desk, deciding just to take whoever is leftover.
A few moments later, you spot another student apparently hating this as much as you are. Sitting diagonally from you and now facing your direction is none other than Cole Brookstone himself. His combination of long, black hair pulled into an adorably messy bun along with his spearmint-tinted eyes makes your heart skip a beat - doubly so when you realize he’s looking at you, headphones dropped around his neck. The fact that he’s wearing a muscle tank that sets those gorgeous-toned arms on display does not help.
It’s then that you’re snapped out of your trance, heart racing even more when he nods toward you, one of his eyebrows raised.
You get the message, briefly nodding at him with a soft smile.
While he grabs his supplies, you take a moment to put away your journal, now replaced by your school laptop. You subtly take a deep breath, part of you in disbelief that you’re going to be partnering with your crush of several months for this assignment.
Cole settles in beside you, dropping his belongings on the desk before relaxing into the chair.
After he does, the teacher glances around before nodding. “Great. Okay, your assignment is to read the next three chapters of our current novella, then prepare for next week’s Socratic Seminar using quotes and notes from the chapters. I’m handing out your seminar preparation packets now - remember to read the overview! I’ll be going more in depth about the actual seminar the day of. These are going to be due on Wednesday.”
“I hate Socratic Seminars,” Cole mutters, pausing the music on his headphones.
“Me too,” you agree as the teacher hands you two packets, one of which you hand to Cole. You try to ignore the tingling the ignites as your fingers brush together.
“At least it’s only three chapters. With how short they are, it won’t take long to read. I can probably finish them both up tonight.”
“Yeah, same. I’ll make a Google Doc so we can share notes as we read,” you respond, opening your school laptop. “Does that work?”
Cole nods, doing the same. “At least it’s only three chapters. With how short they are, I can probably finish them all tonight.”
“I will too, then,” you note, creating a new document before spinning your laptop around so that he can add his school email.
“In that case, would you just want to meet up after school tomorrow so we can just knock the packet out before the weekend?”’ he suggests, sliding the computer back to you.
The proposition catches you slightly off guard, although you can’t help but acknowledge that blooming elation in your chest.
You nod. “Yeah, let’s do that.”
“How does the cafe right next to the school sound?”
“That works,” you say. “I’ll meet you there, then?”
…
“It’s a date!” your friend shrieks over the phone.
You roll your eyes, tossing the novella atop your nightstand. “It is not a date! I’ve told you like eight times already!”
“Someone’s in denial! Okay, okay, fine. How about we go over the facts, hm?”
“Oh, come on! What facts? I think you’re just making a big deal out of nothing,” you add, finishing up your nightly routine.
“Nothing? Yeah, right. So, tell me - if it really is nothing, then why aren’t the two of you just working on it remotely via the Google Doc? That’s what everyone else is doing! You don’t have to meet in person to get this done!”
“That doesn’t mean anything,” you interject with a shake of your head. “We just want to get it done before the weekend starts.”
“You’re unbelievable,” mutters your friend. “But that’s fine, because you don’t have to believe it. This could be your chance!”
You contemplate what your friend is saying for a moment before deciding to play the dumb card again. “Chance for what? It’s just homework. It’s not that deep.”
“You’re always making goo-goo eyes at him, and I’ve noticed him looking at you too, you know. I think you guys have some good chemistry.”
“I don’t know,” you mumble, nervousness creeping throughout your chest as you shift the grip on your phone slightly. “I…I guess I’ll just see how it goes, then.”
“There, there we go!” cheers the voice on the other end. “Just tell me how it goes, okay?!”
“Fine, I will!”
“Good. Now finish reading that stupid book so you’ll be prepared. Text me, okay?”
“I will. Thanks.”
With a few more closing words, the two of you hang up for the night before you get started on reading the required chapters.
…
You don’t think you’ve ever been this nervous before.
With each passing class, the ball of nerves embedded within your belly grows, eventually manifesting into a racing heart and sweaty palms. You swallow as the last bell of the day rings, grabbing your bag before heading out.
As you exit the school, you find that your friend has texted you:
good luck!! :)
After shooting a quick reply, you make your way through the crowded sidewalk for few minutes. Once you get past the school, you will yourself to take a moment to simply breathe.
As you inhale deeply, you tilt your head slightly up to the sun, its warm rays enveloping your skin. The air is crisp and fresh, unlike the stale atmosphere lacing your school. Finally, you’re able to calm down a bit as you approach the café, quick to enter.
The first sound to greet you is the soft, café playlist sounding from the speakers in the ceiling, the song slightly masked by the quiet chatter of patrons. From behind the counter emanates the tearing noise of milk being steamed as baristas busy themselves with their work.
You glance around, finding that the café isn’t as busy as you’d thought it would be. Seated in one of the booths is Cole, eyes focused on a book situated on the table. It seems different than the assigned book. He’s dressed in dark jeans and a graphic tee depicting a band that you haven’t heard of.
You approach him, setting your backpack on the opposite side of the side. “Hey.”
Cole glances up at you as you do so, a dimpled smile forming on his lips. “Hey.”
“Just give me a minute to order,” you say, returning his grin as you turn towards the counter. Thankfully, there’s no line, so you’re able to place your order and pay quickly.
Once you have your order, you sit down across from Cole before pulling your needed supplies out.
“So...” Cole starts, pushing his current read aside and sliding his note packet out. “Quanish the Elder. Quite the character, don’t you think?”
You chuckle lightly, sipping on your drink as you nod in agreement. “Definitely. But his stories have some merit. After all, rumor has it that he can see the future.”
Cole shrugs. “My...grandfather always told me that he was an idiot. I guess he had his moments, though.”
You nod, plucking the seminar prep sheet up in order to read over the questions. “Okay...so, we have to figure out what stance we’re going to take on the message he was trying to embed, right?”
“Yeah, sounds about right. So...what do you think he was trying to say?”
“That people are unpredictable. And sometimes stupid,” you summarize, surprising yourself at how simple the theme is. “And that’s unavoidable no matter where you go.”
“Ironic, coming from him,” Cole mumbles, shrugging. “Yeah, that’s what I gathered too.”
“Cool, so we I guess we can go ahead and look for quotes and examples that back our theory,” you mumble, pulling your book out.
Cole nods in agreement as he sips his drink again. “Sounds good.”
With that, the two of you scour the chapters for quotes. During your reading, you can’t help but sneak a few glances over at Cole.
He’s so cute when he reads, you think, smiling softly as your eyes flick back towards the page. Your brain happily reimagines the memory of his pretty eyes scanning over the page, the way his fingers would flip the page, the callouses present on his knuckles...and not to mention his muscles.
It takes you a minute to process that, despite reading almost an entire page, you hadn’t digested any of the words. You sigh softly, starting over again. Okay, focus!
Thankfully, you’re able to redirect your attention to the task at hand as opposed to the handsome man sitting right across from you. Soon enough, you’re both able to finish filling out your homework for the weekend.
“I’m so glad that’s done,” you note, shoving the papers back where they belong. “I was dreading that.”
“Yeah, I’m relieved that we finished before the weekend,” he responds, also putting his belongings away. “Thanks, by the way. For meeting me here.”
“Yeah, I um...I enjoyed it,” you admit softly, not sure of what else to say. An idea occurs to you when you notice his other book slipped against the wall. “Oh, what are you reading now, by the way?”
To your delight, Cole starts telling you about the book he’s reading. And from there, the two of you end up discussing other books for a little while.
You didn’t think he would be so well-versed in Ninjago’s literature, but he proved you wrong. Proof that you should never judge a book by its cover – especially if that cover sports muscles, graphic band t-shirts and a manbun.
Sure enough, the two of you were there for far longer than you’d anticipated – not that you minded, though. He was fun to talk to.
You’re about to ask him something else when his phone starts ringing.
“Sorry,” he mumbles, fumbling for his device as he shoots an apologetic glance towards you. “I need to get this.”
You dismiss his worries with a wave of your hand. “Not a problem. I should stretch my legs for a second anyway.”
So, you stand, deciding to browse some of the merchandise situated at the other side of the café while you wait for him to finish.
Once he does, you make your way back over, noticing that he’s packing all of his belongings up.
“Hey, sorry. I have to go,” he admits, snatching his book. “But...maybe we could do this again sometime? Maybe same day and time next week?”
“I’d like that,” you reply, smiling softly as you grab your stuff, making sure all of the trash has been cleaned up.
“Dope,” he mumbles quietly, nervously grinning. “So, I’ll see you then?”
“You sure will,” you say, the two of you exiting the café together.
With that, you both bid each other goodbye before heading home for the evening. When you get home, you immediately text your friend to concede defeat:
I think you were right. We’re meeting up again next week.
…
The weekend, as per usual, passes in a haze much to your dismay. You hadn’t slept well, either, which normally wouldn’t be a huge issue except for one, little detail:
You fell asleep before setting your alarm on Sunday night.
It didn’t take you long to realize you weren’t going to make it, even going as far as not to rush your morning routine. Now, you’re walking on the sidewalk towards the school, checking the time on your phone. Yeah, there’s no way you’re going to arrive in time. Might as well grab a cup of coffee since you can’t be late twice, right?
Decision made, you slow your pace and decide to simply enjoy the fresh air while you still can. You weren’t really looking forward to first period anyway, so why not live a little?
The atmosphere of Ninjago City seems to be extra busy today, with citizens much like yourself bustling about. You arrive at the café in a few minutes, immediately joining the line.
After you order, you wait for the baristas to make your drink, idly watching one of the televisions hitched up in the corner of the store. It’s stationed to one of the local news channels, the hosts of which are currently discussing local news.
You lose interest after a few moments, electing to scroll through your phone again.
A few seconds later, the barista calls out your name and hands you your drink. After thanking her, you take a sip and go to have a seat at one of the tables.
About ten minutes pass as you scroll through your phone while enjoying your beverage. At some point, though, you start hearing more and more concerned murmuring among the crowd.
You lift your head up, noticing quite a few people leaving the store. Narrowing your eyes, you shift your stare towards the TV again.
“This just in – our scouts have spotted Garmadon and his forces approaching Ninjago City again! You know the drill – take cover wherever you can until the Secret Ninja Force can repel his assault!”
Oh, fucking dandy. Another Garmadon attack. You stand with a groan, watching as the camera footage shifts to a shot of Garmadon’s giant shark mech breaching the coast. Again. Fantastic, that’s not too far from where you’re at, which means you probably won’t be able to make it back home in time. That means your best shot is figuring out where the nearest public shelter is.
You shift your attention towards the street, noticing that people are already starting to panic.
After making your way out of the shop, you realize that your time is shorter than you initially thought. You can already feel the vibrations of the mech’s footsteps within the ground, and people are starting to panic even more.
You feel your heartbeat increase as someone yells out from the street behind you. Upon turning, you feel the beginnings of an adrenaline rush as an all-too-familiar group of Garmadon goons flood the streets.
As your breathing speeds up, you make a split-second decision to cut through an alley between two buildings – a route that you know will lead you to a back road that fewer people know about. You jog towards it, cautiously making your way through.
Thankfully, it’s clear, leading you to the road. You continue following it, making sure to keep your head on a swivel.
It’s eerily quiet, save for the small vibrations. In the distance, you can hear people yelling. You pass a few people on the way, but not too many.
You manage to make it within a few minutes of home – from here, it’s just a walk past a skyscraper, then a few turns and you’re there.
Your gaze shifts up to the skyscraper you need to walk by, and for some reason, a horrid feeling courses through your stomach. You stop in your tracks, hairs standing on end as you glance around.
Your home...it’s not far, and yet...
Your unease pays off, because seconds later, a deafening shattering noise sends you scrambling for cover. Something crashes through the skyscraper you would have been standing in front of had you not stopped when you did. You run back towards a nearby alley, trying to get away from the action.
As you turn, however, you find that a few of Garmadon’s soldiers are blocking your path, along with a few smaller mechs controlled by some of the higher-level goons.
You turn back around, spotting the mech you saw on TV emerge from the debris of the skyscraper, your eyes widen as you notice the remains of the building swaying unsteadily for a moment before toppling over – right in your direction.
A scream becomes stuck in your throat as you try to run from the falling debris, but before you can, a pair of hands roughly pushes you backwards. You yell out, falling onto the pavement.
The breath is knocked out of your lungs, leaving you gasping. Your mind is spinning, part of you trying to get your ass in gear while the other part of you is trying to suck a breath in. With both warring thoughts in your mind, combined with the sight of the falling debris...
...you freeze.
Breath hitched in your lungs, you can only watch as the debris tumbles down towards you.
You close your eyes, waiting for an impact as tears prick the corners of your eyes.
But...it doesn’t come.
After slowly opening your eyes, you realize that something else is towering over you. Your breath finally returns, allowing you to sit up.
Above you is another mech – this one familiar. You recognize it as one of the mechs used by the Secret Ninja Force. Relief courses through you as the mech hovers over you, blocking the debris with its fists. It’s the Black Ninja’s mech.
Three other mechs appear – the Red Ninja leaps into action by driving back Garmadon’s mech using its momentum and surprise. Second to appear is the Green Ninja’s mechanical dragon, aiding Red in his assault against Garmadon. Finally, the Gray Ninja’s water strider leaps out of a nearby river, one of its legs sweeping out against the row of smaller mechs, effectively sending them flying backwards.
With that, she leaps back in the water, the mech swimming away. Green and Red manage to drive Garmadon’s mech out of sight, while Black’s mech seemingly spots the various enemies around you.
You decide it’s best to get away from the giant robot that’s about to start fighting, so you scramble out of its way, eyes scanning the area for cover. To your dismay, more of Garmadon’s troops have arrived, and have surrounded you.
“Fuck,” you curse, wondering what the best course of action could be. There’s no cover for you to take, so your best hope of not getting squished like a bug is to hope that Black sees you.
“General, do it now!” an enemy shouts. You notice one of them holding some strange device – a gun, maybe? A big one, if it is. They aim it towards Black’s mech, and in a matter of seconds, it launches a blue ball of energy towards the mech. You gasp as blue waves pulse across its structure before sending it crashing to the ground.
Was that an electromagnetic pulse?! you wonder, eyes widening as the mech fails to get up.
Then, a pair of arms jerks you backwards by the shoulder, another arm coming in front of you. You struggle, screaming out as something sharp is pressed against your neck.
“Easy, beautiful,” a scratchy voice taunts. “No use struggling unless you want your throat slit.”
"Let me go!” you demand as the grip on you grows tighter. Fingers dig into your skin, the blade now poking into your neck.
“That’s up to our little ninja friend,” he responds. You watch as a figure emerges from the cockpit, heart racing.
“I’d like to see what he’s capable of without his big robot,” another soldier taunts as Black slowly makes his way towards you. You try not to let your fear show, but you can tell it’s not working. His eyes glance at you, studying you for a moment.
“Let her go,” he states calmly, raising his hands.
“Nope,” replies the man holding you. “We want something. If we strike a deal, maybe then we can think about releasing her.”
“Okay,” Black assures, stepping forward slowly. “Let’s talk.”
“That’s more like it. Okay, here’s what we want. We want you,” he states simply.
“You want to capture me?” Black clarifies.
“Yes. You’re going to be good leverage to use against Green. Not to mention that when Garmadon finds out that we captured a ninja, we’ll get a promotion for sure!”
“What do you mean by leverage?” asks Black. You get the feeling that whoever’s holding you hostage isn’t the brightest, and that Black is just scrounging for time however he can. He must have some kind of plan.
“Isn’t it obvious? To get your damned team to back down and surrender control to Garmadon!”
Black doesn’t answer for a moment, seemingly going over his options. You notice that his eyes keep flicking towards a direction behind you ever so often, but the enemy doesn’t seem to realize this. He must be waiting for backup.
“So, what’ll it be?”
“I’ll come willingly. Just...let her go.”
“Come over here.”
Another goon steps forward, holding out a pair of handcuffs. You bite your lip as Black takes a few steps forward, heart pounding.
Then, you hear something: the guy behind you grunts, dropping his knife arm. A split second is all it takes for you to realize that this is your chance. You immediately run forward, making your way behind Black before turning around to face your attacker.
You see a bunch of men...convulsing, maybe? But not all of them – a portion of them are watching their fallen allies in shock. You’re stuck wondering what happened until a blue aircraft zips overhead.
“Thanks, Blue,” Black mutters before turning to you. “Hey, you need to go.”
You don’t reply, watching as he goes to defend against a few goons who have recovered enough to rush him.
For some reason, you’re rooted in place. You know you’re free, and that you can run, but...something prompts you to stay.
Black seems to be holding his own despite the fact that he’s outnumbered. However, the situation changes when someone manages to trip him up, another goon taking advantage of the opening by tackling Black.
They’re quick to pin his limbs down, with another man circling the restrained ninja with a dark chuckle. “You were a fool to think you could take us on all by yourself!”
Black doesn’t reply – just keeps his cool.
“How about we take a look at who we’re really dealing with, hm?” the villain taunts. “Take his mask off!”
Oh, stars. You have to do something!
You glance around, realizing that this could be your only opportunity since they’re preoccupied with Black’s true identity. Thankfully, the debris around you provides plenty of impromptu weapons – one of which is a chunk of concrete that seems heavy enough to do some damage, but light enough for you to throw. Perfect.
You grab it, hoisting it up before aiming it at one of the men holding Black’s arms down. With a grunt, you throw it as hard as you can.
The concrete sails through the area before smacking the intended man in the shoulder, effectively causing him to let go of Black’s arm. It's not much, but it’s enough for Black to strike the man holding his other arm.
“You fucking bitch!” the injured man yells, gripping his injured shoulder. “Get her!”
Thankfully, though, Black manages to take the rest of the men out. You sigh in relief, realizing that you’re starting to crash from that lovely adrenaline rush.
“Are you okay?” you ask, shifting your gaze to Black.
And you pause, eyes widening as you remember that he’s unmasked.
But...you know this face.
“Cole?” you wonder. “You’re the...?”
“Um...yeah. Yeah, I am,” he mumbles, smiling smally as he bends over to pick his mask up. “Guess my cover’s blown, huh?”
You’re not really sure what to say, so you avert your gaze as he pulls the article over his head. With your thoughts racing, you have a hard time making sense of all that’s happened.
Cole...so it’s been him all along. And his other friends...the numbers and personalities certainly match up. They must make up the rest of the Secret Ninja Force.
He studies you for a moment, walking up to you slowly. “You’re not hurt, are you?”
“N-No, I’m fine,” you reply. “Um...for what it’s worth, I won’t tell anyone.”
“I’m sorry about all this,” he says, pausing. “You should find shelter. I know that the public ones are probably locked by now, but there might something else nearby.”
“My home isn’t far. I’ll just head there,” you note.
“I’ll come with you. The main streets are crawling with Garmadon’s army, and my mech isn’t much use now anyway,” he replies. “Lead the way.”
“Thank you,” you mumble, starting to walk towards your home.
With that, the two of you quietly make your way through the city, most of the goons having made their way to other points of the city by now. This part of the city has gone eerily quiet, leaving you and Cole to trek through the streets in a strange silence.
“Are you doing okay?” Cole wonders. “I’m sorry that he...”
“It’s not your fault,” you assure, smiling sadly. “And...I’m just a little shaken, I think, but I'll survive.”
“...And you’re taking the news of my identity better than I thought, too,” he admits.
“I mean...I can’t really complain, can I? You saved me. Yeah, it’s...kind of weird to think that you’re actually a ninja, but...it’s not as surprising as I initially thought. Maybe because I might have hit my head. Or because I’m in shock, or...something. I don’t know.”
He nods in agreement. “Yeah, and I guess I owe you thanks too.”
“Why?”
“For stepping in when you did,” he adds. “I don’t think I would have been able to escape them if you hadn’t given me an opening.”
You smirk, turning to glance at him. “Even ninjas need saving sometimes too, huh?”
“Unfortunately, yes.”
That makes you giggle as the two of you finally approach your home, with you turning towards Cole.
“Thank you again,” you mumble, smiling at him.
“Not a problem,” Cole answers. “Are we still on for next week, by the way?”
“We sure are,” you add, stepping closer to him.
You can feel him freeze slightly, especially when your hands come up to lift his mask slightly. A wave of confidence slips over you as you press a soft kiss to his cheek, stepping away after you pull it back down.
“Thank you again, Cole.”
