for a while since i got into transformers 3 years ago and i loved the franchies instiantly even since i was a kid especially the designs of transformers and Seeing fan arts and fan Designs and fans make thire own continuity made me me want to start learning to draw when im ready but i don't know how to draw cybertronians so do you have any tips and advices for someone who want to learn to draw transformers characters both Traditional & digital art?

Biggest advice I can give is: "Break a character apart into simple components!"

Drawing bots is honestly not that difficult, I find it much easier than people because you can more easily break a character apart into simplified blocks.

When it comes to designing characters it can take a few times to get one you're happy with so doing lots of basic sketches can help. References are always useful too! Every artist uses references.

Here's how I do it (In this case I'm doing an alt design for tfe Nightshade):

(It's not a definitive guide as you kinda have to figure out what works best for you both in terms of technique and art style. I'm aware my art style is definitely not for everyone, as it veers more on the cartoony side. I've had comments about how my faces all look effed up etc XD)

Initial sketch

Break a bot down into basic shapes, circles and sausage shapes for more rounded characters and boxes for squarer ones. I normally start with the head and draw the rest of the body down from it (torso and arms then legs then any back kibble that might be visible) Think of it like the protoform beneath the armour.

To help with figuring out a pose I'll often use my toys. It can help you visualise where their arms and legs etc go along with whether part of a bot is actually visible from a certain angle. For example in this case:

This can help you to figure out if a certain design can pull a given pose, for example would a bot with kibble on their hips or arms be able to move their legs or arms a certain way. I used POTP Elita one as a reference for my SG Megatron a lot for example as they've got very similar builds. But this is not essential.

(There are mannequin apps on mobiles etc. you can use to help with pose references too, and image searches are always useful for references.)

For more dynamic poses it helps to think about how the character is moving, so add a curve to the torso/spine to add to any implied motion etc.

Details

Once I'm happy with the basic shape and pose I typically add the armour over the top. Again the head is usually the first bit I do. You can see I got a bit lazy with their left hand and just did a scribble here XD

Inking

Normally when inking I do the edges of each armour piece first then add any details on afterwards in a finer pen. Generally I'll do one body part at the time eg. fully ink the arm before doing the head etc. Its best to make sure you do parts that are in front first!

Though it'll need some digital cleaning up at another time.

As for digital art...

I can't really give much advice on starting a drawing digitally as I never quite got the hang of it (colouring and corrections I do digitally but all my line art is traditional), I need the feedback of a pen in my hand and pressure on the paper to get it right.

These days the Hardware I mainly use is a refurbished huion art tablet (it was about £120 when I bought it) that's probably the cheapest your going to find a graphics tablet with a screen. BUT it's really not essential to get one especially if you're just starting out. Basic graphic tablets without a screen (just a pen and a pad) are much cheaper or you can use a mouse. I used a mouse for ages when I was first starting out.

In terms of software, for colouring and edits on the PC I use GIMP (I've been using it since like 2009 so I'm not really going to change any time soon!). It's freeware software and can do a lot of stuff, but it's user interface isn't the most user friendly especially if you're not familiar with graphics software but there are plenty of tutorials available for it. I'll try to remember to make a post showing how I use that another time :) as I'm not at my computer at the moment.

There are plenty of alternative image manipulation/graphics software to use as well, some free, some free but with ads, and some paid for (either one off payment or subscription). It's best to see what other artists have to say about them though as I've never really used them!

okay but thoughts you making your current reality the waiting room? this is where we script and prepare ourselves so if we say this is our waiting room rather than having to shift to a waiting room surely we’ve already basically shifted to our waiting rooms therefore we can now access our dr?

im not entirely sure how you worded this (sorry im pretty slow lately) and also sorry for taking a while to reply since i wanted to answer on laptop not on mobile :)

so! to the question: making your current reality your waiting room. okay so i am FAR from a shifting expert to take this with a grain of salt :D

for most people a waiting room is simply that, a waiting room! okay thats stupid so lemme explain: have you ever been in a doctor/dentist/whatever waiting room? its quiet, its calm, and if you're lucky there's no one else there. its a great time to catch up on things, check your email (from your phone or whatever) while you wait, you get it, right?

so, many people create some sort of 'waiting room' reality, where they can relax, create their script, etc. its basically an environment without any distractions, space and time to focus. for many people, a waiting room reality can be helpful because its usually simply a room or a house, with no world or other people. its much easier to script (or even just visualise with no script cuz its not needed). for lots of people a waiting room also acts as some sort of study room, with more time and less distractions to study for school.

( i have a sort of waiting room that is a beach house. its just me and my pets, and its on an island. this island is really small, and it has both a forest and a beach. i can spend as much time as i like there, studying or scripting or whatever.)

sorry for that basic explanation, you probably already knew that but just in case someone curious or new to shifting reads this, they can have the whole picture :)

a waiting room is, esentially, a reality like any other. but with other realities (including this one!) it can get difficult to organise yourself (if we're talking about studying/scripting) or simply just relax, because there are people to talk to and things to do (for example in this reality you have chores, school, etc. and in a hogwarts reality you have school and friends to see, in a percy jackson dr you have quests and camp and stuff...)

lots of people see a waiting room as an intermediary place between two realities? i kind of view it as a train station when you're changing trains in a long trip. you don't know the city you're in, and you simply wait and get things done (maybe even stay the night if needed), until your next train comes and takes you to your destination.

as for making your bedroom your waiting room? do you mean like in this reality or shifting to a waiting room that looks like your bedroom (with some changes so you can tell the difference?) i have no idea

i don't know why i get the feeling that you think that it is necessary to shift to a waiting room to access your dr? if you don't think that please correct me btw! anywas, lots of people shift directly from here to their dr, and others use a waiting room. its personal preference :)

ANYWAYS, in summary (sorry this got long and i have no idea if ive answered your question love): i personally wouldn't call this reality a waiting room since those are usually described as intermediary realities between OR and DR, a place to relax/study/script/sleep for hours on end/whatever with no one around (or whoever you decide to add into it). HOWEVER, you can 'make' a waiting room that is your house/bedroom, but without your family and such? no school, no stress etc, and decide (or script or simply create in your mind) to change the colour of your walls maybe? something small, that way its much easier to visualise! accessing your dr can be done from ANY reality, whether that be here or or a waiting room or another dr :)

ALSO what position did/does Arthur play? And where?? IM INTRIGUED.

Okay SO!! Both of these are rather unbaked plots so bear with me, friend. Royal Suitor Alex!! Alex is sober enough to NOT turn the buttercream incident into one where he knocks over the cake. Instead he tugs Henry into a nearby washroom and tries to help wash the icing off Henry's jacket. What he's NOT sober enough to do is stop Henry from kissing him nor to remember to lock the door. One of the event staff snaps a picture of them and it ends up in the paper the next morning. The palace's hands are tied and now the official story is that Alex and Henry are in a committed relationship!!! We totally meant to announce this all along!! Look how progressive the monarchy is!!! RIP to Alex who absolutely still thinks Henry is annoying as fuck and now has to have his sexuality crisis while being paraded around the UK with Henry on Palace-Approved Outings. And as for Hockey AU, I hadn't fully decided what position Arthur might have played, though now I feel I'm leaning toward him being a defenseman for some reason. Tall, long reach, etc. Maybe more of a mobile offensive defenseman in an era where that was rare. He's a dual Canadian/British citizen because Commonwealth. I can't decide whether I want him to have played for NYR (and for Henry to have spent some time in NY as a kid) or for a Canadian team. But obv him being a big NHL star means that hockey becomes much more popular as a sport in the UK. All the royal kids played a little as kids, but only Henry stuck with it. MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. MANY HOCKEY THOUGHTS.

are you named after anyone? - birth name, nope. does it count if i got my chosen name from a fictional character??

when was the last time you cried? - this morning!! nothing 2 be concerned about i got woken up by the fire alarm (also nothing to be concerned about it just needs the battery replaced) and was so tired & upset i started crying, which happens. more often than i would like. hm. maybe i named myself after the wrong afton kid

do you have kids? - nope!! i do like interacting with them though but only like 3 max at a time JFJRJFNG

do you use sarcasm a lot? - irl yes, online only sparingly. & i make it very exaggerated not usually deadpanned or anything so people can Tell (which of course nobody needs except for Me but i digress)

what sports do you play/have played? - did soccer when i was a little kid (Hated It), was on a swim team for a while, and did marching band for the longest (which is my favorite and yes it counts as a sport and you cannot say it doesn't until you've been in marching band. cunt)

what's the first thing you notice about other people? - typically clothes and then hair! i have a relatively mild (but still pretty bad compared to ppl without it) case of face-blindness, and i CANNOT tell people apart by their faces at all unless they have smth like a bunch of facial piercings or a scar or smth Noticable so i tend to look at other things first.

eye colour? - ??? hazel-brown ??? no idea tbh but at least partially brown

scary movies or happy endings? - HAPPY ENDINGS. i am soso scared of scary movies i will gladly watch the little prince for the 60th time. Alternate Universe - Everybody Lives / Nobody Dies is one of my favorite tags on ao3.

any special talents? - ? where were you born? - arizona/usa. same town as my mom actually (despite her moving like 7 times in between her birth and mine)

what are your hobbies? - listen to music and pace around my room until i pass out. and painting, writing, drawing, various other arts n crafts, guitar, percussion when i have the chance (rn i only have a practice pad :|), and mobile games of heavily varying quality.

do you have any pets? - not atm but i used to have two cats (both still alive just in different household) that i still consider my little kitties :] i have 150+ pictures of them on my phone if you ever need cats i Got you

how tall are you? - 5'11" now!!! was hovering around 5'7"-8" for the longest time but i recently had a growth spurt and now im only the SECOND shortest in my family (out of six)

favourite subject in school? - by the material probably math! it is sometimes difficult for me to get a concept but once i do it's Easy. i also do have an advantage (parent has math degree and is good at explaining) but i try and make up for it by helping everyone else as much as i can jfjdndjf. by the Class def band/music class if that counts. both of my music teachers have been both very scary yet very nice to me and i loved their classes so so much and i extremely enjoy playing instruments with other people (when they behave)

dream job? - sorting pokemon cards in a comfortable chair as a day job with a 4 day workweek, being a freelance renowned fiction editor on my own time, with occasional music-related gigs (tutoring, repairing stuff, playing in concerts, etc). i give you no shit if i could do that for the rest of my life and get paid well enough to live on my own or with roommates i like, have a cat, and have enough time and energy to homecook a meal 3-4 nights a week i would be so happy. that's all i want in life. "oh you would get bored doing the same thing day in day out" no i wouldn't "how" autism.

this is only somewhat related to the playlist, but i didnt realize that My Way Of Life was the song that jake was playing in the last scene, and then when you put frontier psychiatrist in there, did yoy know that that song is sampled in there. the That Boy Needs Therapy song. sampling the song that was playing when jake makes his appearance at khonshu's behest, a song that is all in one an admission of defeat, a prayer, and a claim. can i speak to the directors was this on purpose (shaking someone wildly by the shoulders)

• Nutcracker suite Arabian dances: im very much a classical lover as you can probably tell by now but this has always been my favorite classical piece. • Leopard: this song is literally always switching up!! Just like moon knight lol. One moment it’s sad and slow, next moment it’s anxious and fast, and then it’s smooth and chill. Need I say more.

MARC

• Back from the dead: “BLOW, YA TAKIN 2 SHOTS TO YA CHEST”

• Hunter: this one is very special to me cause it’s probably my favorite song of all time at the moment. It’s sort of the same deal with the nutcracker suite where it’s like you just have to keep on marching and do what you can to survive cause there’s not really a home you can go back to. It feels lonely, ghostly, desolate, and steadfast. So marc and so knightly. “I tried to organize freedom- you sussed it out didn’t you? You could smell it so you left me on my own, to complete the mission, now I’m leaving it all behind.” Very him and Khonshu am I right or am I right. HES GOING HUNTING. HES THE HUNTER!

• Pluto: this is a more recent addition, it’s just so visceral and violent. Like Marc! I also specifically added the live version with the strings cause it sounds so much moreee. Unhinged? Enraged? “Excuse me, I just have to explode this body” “I’ll wake up tomorrow brand new, a little tired, but brand new” just like going to bed as maRC AND WAKING UP AS STEVEN CMONNNNNN

• Dirty Harry: mercenary days marc moment

• Awoken: relistening to old mlp fandom songs I used to love when I was little and then realizing one of them fit Marc Spector of all characters actually incredibly well felt like unearthing an ancient cursed relic. I literally still cannot believe it

• All the Will Smith songs: Marc speeds on the highway when he drives. And when he does, he’s blasting this. Also he doesn’t like any other musician besides will smith. He has literally had the exact same music taste since 1997 #comfortmusic

• Get out of my house: MARC IS THE HOUSE.

• All the love: the phone calls. THE PHONE CALLS. Did I mention the phone calls? The sighs too UGH. I’m imagining Marc coming back to that storage locker and listening to all the voicemails Steven had left him thinking he was calling their mom. Also am I crazy thinking the last “good night” sounds EXACTLY like Steven?

• Sandpaper kisses: “your gonna a leave her. You have deceived her. Just a girl, with featherweight curls” Layla 😭

• The moon/ Awake: EVERY. LYRIC. HITS. It fits the relationship between him and Steven amazingly. “When sins of sons to fathers come, too heavy is the weight. THE SPIRIT SPLIT IN TWO” <- when I heard that while looking for songs to add to this playlist my jaw dropped. ITS TOO REAL

STEVEN

• Ok let’s go: the moon/ awake to ok let’s go is the transition from Marc to Steven. It’s basically Steven being like “is this too much to take? That’s ok, I’ll take it from here” like he’s there to put Marc’s pieces back together after everything. It’s stevens introduction bc that’s his purpose after all. He’s picking up where Marc left off

• Diary: Goldfish problem vibes. “Dear diary, What a day it’s been. Dear Diary, it’s been just like a dream” “at night I can’t sleep, I toss and turn” also the guy is British so that’s a plus

shadow the hedgehog

One aspect I love: how much he cares for those he loves and how he is made up of each of them. everyone he has ever loved is part of the picture that is shadow, makes up every atom of his being.

One aspect I wish more people understood about them: his whole character arc is about self-autonomy and doing what he wants to do, not because others have told him to do. sth is a series about finding personal freedom and sonic helps those around him find their way to achieve that specific freedom. for shadow, it's moving on and not letting the promises made to those who have long since passed dictate who he is or what he does. not letting anyone dictate his path. it's about passing on from grief and starting fresh, while still honoring those you have loved. there's a reason why majority of his villains have all wanted to control shadow in some shape or form. gerald, eggman using him as the basis for the androids, black doom, mephiles, even infinite. and each time he comes back, reasserting himself and piecing himself together. im gonna cut this off here bc i am way too wordy when it comes to shadow the hedgehog.

One (or more) headcanon(s) I have about them: he's actually shorter but his air shoes give him extra height the airshoes are actually mobility devices!! This Hedgehog is Trans Masc. he/they pronouns frfr chileno. trust me. he has sharp claws! he's a living chaos energy battery basically. the way the inhibitor rings work is that they regulate his innate chaos energy by helping it circulate more easily. once he takes them off, his power is no longer restrained but its because the chaos energy is coming out of him at a greater quantity so he is effectively a glass canon. he ended up leaving his super form because while sonic has harnessed his chaos energy to go super, shadow honed it into his chaos control/snap/spears/etc. his favorite color is actually yellow because it reminds him of maria's hair and he loved playing it when he was a kid maria called him "mi sombrita" (my little shadow) and thats where he got his name he knows how to dance! is very good at it!! he started staying with rouge and omega only after shit went down in shth 2005 before that he was wandering and thats why he looks unkept in the renders

One (or more) headcanon(s) I have that involve them and one other character: he loves cream and charmy and is so willing to babysit whenever vanilla or vector asks he and omega have been banned from 8 different rage rooms because they rage a little too hard and destroy fucking everything he enjoys spending time with amy and tails because they remind him of maria knuckles will sometimes let him chill on top of the emerald like he lets rouge do just because the natural powers of the chaos emerald help his chaos energy feel more calm. perfect nap spot. he and omega gave the shovel talk to knuckles but then they ended up just fighting bc they were bored. they knocked over some trees. sonic drags shadow to different places to get him fully familiarized with the 21st century. shadow makes a show about protesting but he genuinely considers sonic a good friend. sonic and shadow had a big conversation about what happened in sa2 and shadow doesn't remember everything but sonic just had to let some things off his chest (their therapist recommended talking it out. 5 months ago.) shadow helped sonic out after the aftermath of frontiers shadow and metal are friends. fuck you sega. vector was the one who actually mentioned the idea of therapy to shadow and rouge after shth 2005

ok the first person i think of is zhaan from farscape. bc like. blue aliens. nature. the sane ones. pacifists but HAVE killed. but in the grand scheme of things shes like low on the list i think.

I vaguely imagined a p5/keroro crossover once. you know how it is. theres a certain level of sworn duty to go “hm i like this thing. what other things that I’ve liked can i smash into it full speed to create a new thing that is an abomination against nature and god.” I didn’t think about it very hard, it’s kind of difficult to think about, what with the two DRASTICALLY different tones of media, but I do think dororo is the one with the best chance of like… actually Getting Along. with any of the phantom thieves. The thieves would probably struggle to trust any of the other frogs, on account of the untrustworthiness. but dororo can be more normal. He and Haru 100% should hang out. God willing. They would have a great time and she wouldn’t even forget about him.

clerical magic typically white/gold with a core of rapidly changing rainbow, magenta more prominent

some thematic connection between rainbows and primordial chaos. chaos in this context is similar or equivalent to the abyss from dark souls. its some source of ponykind and has some connection to 'harmony', harmony being an important value in pony society before the collapse.

all life in pony world is derived from the creature that fell from the stars and died. it wasnt mundane, it was an alien cosmic entity, like a lovecraftian god but lacking self awareness or consciousness. but full of raw power. a scared stupid thing that on a world teeming with life would have caused untold destruction and fed ferociously. but instead it died and gave life to a whole world.

the sky beast idea might end up getting scrapped but i still want to hold onto the idea of rainbows representing some primordial magical force. i keep coming back to the idea of chaos as a force or wellspring of power. i feel like tying rainbows into that would work rly well as a sort of subversion of the pop culture cliche of 'pink tiny unicorns dancing on rainbows'. im picturing offensive rainbow magic thats a beam that corrupts and dismembers the target while also hurting the weilder. something deliberately unsettling or upsetting.

clerical magic would tap into the lifegiving aspect of this primordial chaos/magic, using a small amount of it carefully tempered to heal. or directing it precisely to harm.

sidenote: healing spells hurting the undead is a Must. its such a cool classic concept thats so underutilized.

this also segues into a conversation about magic schools and elements and casting implements.

i think my ideal set up would be 3 casting stats, with an element for each stat, an element for each pair among the 3, combination elements like warframe, with pure uncontrolled chaos magic drawing from all three stats. every element has an associated status effect too maybe?

im repurposing this from older ideas for another game i wanted to make, but i think i want to theme this in a more, pony, way? whatever that means.

the names for the stats (strength, dex, vigor, intelligence, etc) should be different tonally.

rather than neutral terms like the souls games and dnd use i think more emotional terms that evoke the elements of harmony and the language of mlpfim would be more fitting.

words like heart, bravery, compassion, etc

things that sound like positive qualities ppl try to have. i would need a thesaurus to find the right words but heart could work for hp.

i remember in a plan for another game wanting 3 casting stats and 3 martial stats.

strength and dexterity ofc, with a third stat reoresenting sturdiness or steadfastness that gave equip load and a small amount of stamina and/or hp, but that some weapons also scaled with, mainly shields.

i feel like that would fit really well for this setting? like, physical strength isn't the be all and end all of 'strength'. big mac and applejack are both shown to be very physically strong in the show but big mac is a lot sturdier and stable. theres a quality he has that applejack doesnt which is what im trying to point out here. sturdiness feels like the right word for it.

some stat that describes how resistant you are to being pushed around. which i suppose should give you poise then huh.

3 phys and 3 magic stats could be too many. bc there needs to be at least 3 more stats beyond that, hp, stamina, and mana. all of which would have secondary effects.

if poise is in the game there needs to be a lot of thought put into how to implement it and into how it is communicated to the player. it also needs to be impactful but expensive. in ds1 to feel the full potential of poise you had to invest heavily into endurance to be able to wear the heaviest armor sets but the effects were clear and tangible and felt good. thats important to recapture. but poise should alsobe impactful with less investment.

passive and active poise where poise is made of two substats could be a way to achieve this. passive poise being a static amount that never decreases and active poise being the poise health system in ds3? where your total poise is defined by adding passive and active, and passive is essentially a section of poise health that cant deplete.

need to find something better to call dex, str, int, etx than 'stats'. stats is too vague. ability scores will do for the future, but id like to find a word for ingame that fits this games identity, another sincere emotional word. virtues is too christian. qualities is too simple. talents could work?

Cinematic language to help you understand why Levihan is more canon than you think

First thing first, of course the plane was Hange. And the wood parallel is deeper than just hints of canon ship

If the birb is Eren then the plane is Hange. It’s called a ✨symbol✨ and a ✨parallel✨ , a narrative device and a visual cue means for readers to reflect on

a) things that happened related to the actual object (when have we seen this before and last time we see it what happened)

b) what it could represent in terms of symbolic meaning (travel, migration, meaning mobility and freedom and civilization and means and that Levi has a good life for example)

c) how it is positioned in relationships with other object/symbol that are similar to it visually, to draw some similarities and differences in terms of narrative (plane is a machine birb, scientific birb, Levi sees plane while Mikasa hanging out w birb, what do this mean???? Thinkkkkkk)

Some folks will find value in learning comp lit, to know how to read narrative work, including cinema. AOT is visual but it is also deeply cinematic in the way Hajime Isayama draws the panel and the variety of shots he uses to depict the passive narration such as voice-over, time-lapse, flashbacks, time jump, etc.

Here’s an example of how AOT is structured by paralllels, symbols, and narrative devices through editing/cinematic techniques to tell the story. This is my favorite scene when Isayama uses a combination of cutaway and montage to use a character’s dialogue beyond the immediate moment (real time) to depict a larger theme of the story:

This scene is Levi and Kenny talking to each other in real time. There are many ways to depict a dialogue. If it is about each other, then characters are usually depict in “continuity editing” where the whole scene is about them talking to each other, shots will be opposite shots of their face, over-the-shoulder, giving audiences a feel that you are there with them in the convo, listening to them talk. But this scene “cutaway” in that it breaks up the “linear time” by showing audiences other images not realistically been seen by any character, to broaden the scope of the scene. Now you know it’s not just about the dialogue. However, cutaway usually is a thing that realistically in that scene, like cut to the tree while Kenny is still speaking, then go back to them.

In this “sequence,” what is shown is a montage of images that are not only “flashbacks” (memory of things the characters have seen/witnessed, since he couldn't have seen Kuchel) but compilation of new images that are “symbolic” to the lines Kenny is speaking. In other words, the author is drawing “parallels” from one instances to others, connecting separated people, scenes, stories, actions, decisions into one larger thing we call “theme”––Isayama’s making sure that audiences know exactly what to think by forcing separated images into one montage, and make sure you understand that this message needs to be understood beyond Kenny. So that’s the cinematic language readers should be aware that Isayama is using.

That’s why arguing events based on literal evidence is limited, because it is cannon itself that events, stories, people’s decisions and investments are meant to be interpreted and understood in juxtaposition.

Now let’s move on to juxtapositions and parallel in Levihan and Eremika:

I know people have use the wood parallel to talk about how Levihan is canon, but I think the wood is meant to show that Levihan are the adult version of Eremika, who also understand and rely on each other, but a lot more secured in their relationship and trust.

So, get this: for Eremika, Eren had to ask who he is to Mikasa (I know, dumbo) before they get the alternative living in the wood. That’s cuz their young love is shy and also full of insecurities and they are unsure of how to understand their affection for one another. The insecurity is especially pronounced when Mikasa, after having been asked that (”who am I to you”), still get so hurt when Eren said he had been hating her since they were kids. That means we can read that she took the question as “what do you want from me why are you clingy” instead of “pls tell me you like me.”

In another world, she is her fierce self who lives only for her and Eren (like she used to back then, ready to fight the whole army to keep Eren alive but now she’s a soldier for humanity) and suggested that they runaway to live in the wood. In this scenario, Mikasa’s suggestion was implied, we never saw her do it, only told in Eren’s retelling, and even so, in his words (“thats what you said, Mikasa”).

This whole scene is continuity editing with flashbacks, purely from the perspective of Mikasa. You as the reader assumes her point of view, because the images depict Eren speaking, and Eren’s words dictate most of the information. So you, as a reader, is being told to, passively that this is what happened, and that whatever decision of how they get here, has been made prior to you. In other words, while the dialogue happening about them being together is real time, the dialogue of how they decided to do so, is not. That is meant for interpretation. The author does not let you know how it happened in real time. This intended foreclosing is meant to evoke a sense of confusion, unsatisfaction (because you do not get to know how decisions are made and why), so it is safe to assume that the intended feeling is also just that--bittersweet. You know the couple get to be together, but they were not entirely at peace. This life will weight heavily on them until the day Eren dies. This scene is in chapter 138, but in story’s time, it’s meant to be continue before the timeskip.

For Levihan, in chapter 126, the conversation between Levihan was playing out in real time itself, but the whole scene is an independent moment that preceded the real event (which was continued on from chapter 125, where Hange and Levi met with Pieck and Theo).

In this scene, readers can see that the suggestion was direct, and we were in on the act as it happens. Hange thought Levi was unconscious, so they were thinking out loud. “Maybe we should just live here together, right, Levi?” We see Hange contemplating about it, said it out loud, and sad that it might just be a wild thought.

Time cut. Now they’re doing something else, before the path appears, and they turned around to wake Levi up. Levi woke up at that same moment, immediately asking about what happened before he was unconscious, not letting Hange know that he heard the whole thing. He took time to catch up with what happened, gathering information and providing information. This means he is contemplating about Hange’s proposal.

“I let him get away again.” Hange responded to this sentence with “I’m sure you want revenge, but for now...” Levi moved on, seamlessly, without a beat, “If we keep running and hiding, what will that get us?” At first it seems like a continuation of the convo--as in Levi doesn’t want to keep hiding and want to go back to battle, but Hange understood immediately that he was referring to their talk: “So you heard me talking to myself.”

Here, Hange weren’t like “omg im sorry I didn’t know u were up i would have never,” because that would suggest that the relationship between them is unconfirmed and that Hange has yet to know what Levi thinks of them (as seen in Eremika’s nature of their relationship). But they were just like, ok, so you heard. Then Levi saw that Hange was making a thing to carry him, and concluded, “I know you. You’re not able to stay out of the action.” Hange admitted, “Yeah, that’s right, I can’t.”

If you look at the scene itself, you will see a lot of opposite shots (POV of the two characters who are talking to each other), many of them are close-up (right in their face). It is a short, but continuous, linear conversation where Hange and Levi got to talk about the possibility, discussed it together, before Levi pointed out that Hange could never just sit this one out, and Hange agreed. This scene is also meant for interpretation, because even though they talked about the possibility, they didn’t go “so what do you think, I think we should” but it was Hange’s wild thought that they fully intended not to go through, and Levi’s understanding that he was not meant to truly respond, because he saw that Hange already had a plan to keep it moving. (The next scene is Levi negotiating with Theo and Pieck, so it’s safe to assume that they spent the rest of their conversation discussing strategies.)

Levihan’s scene is short, but it was meant to read in juxtaposition with Eremika’s more elaborate life in the wood in 138 -- communicating the idea that if they had run away together, they would also suffer intensely survivor’s guilt. Which, as soldiers and commanders, they simply cannot choose. So, in a way, this is to depict Levi’s theme, “no regret,” even as they never had a future to be together at peace. So, as I have rambled more than I needed to, I’mma stop here. My point was pretty simple and meant to invite folks to read AOT very generously in terms of its couple/romantic/partnership, in that just because things are not fleshed out doesn’t mean it’s not real and that readers are supposed to read between the line, thematically, across storylines to get the full picture, but sternly in the way that you need to understand narrative devices and visual cues the ways they’re meant to be read. To go back to the plane controversy (apparently some people insist that planes are planes), of course planes are planes, that’s what they first and foremost need to be. No object would be included for the symbolic meaning only - it always need to be itself first and foremost, to create a normative sense of reality before it could go imaginative and interpretive.
