Now your turn. Please do the character ask game for Anthony & Benedict 😁🧡
i did anthony here :3
benedict bridgerton
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life
hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (i guess???)
best quality: being sooooo lovely :3 smiling. being chill. and being like a natural foil to anthony's exactingness etc. like they're complementary :3 and they're really close skjfng aaaand i also really like that one lil moment in 2x01 where he snarks back at violet which is so interesting because usually he doesn't, i feel like i have to think about that more. and ALSO he's so bi-coded skjfngk but the show probably isn't gonna explore this :(
worst quality: the fact that his season isn't s3!!! haha idk. i mean, for himself/his character, his worst quality is that he's not very confident in himself but yo it's so relatable. ... ACTUALLY......... his worst quality is that he is an absolute dickwad in his book. so that actually makes me feel better/i'm not being ooc with him when i write him as a bit of a clueless rich fuckboi dick in a/b fic (it's the only one i'm writing atm). like, he means well but he doesn't fucking understand (talking about sophie here now)
ship them with: anthony :3
brotp them with: anthony :3
needs to stay away from: nobody. he needs to whore himself out
misc. thoughts: he's bi. he's so fucking bi. (and i forgot to say it on the one i did for anthony, but anthony is pan)
thank you for sending the ask! :3

Howl's Moving Castle: 20 Years Later
Howl's Moving Castle is Hayao Miyazaki's adaptation of the novel by the same name. I have always been curious to read the book, but have just never bothered... Regardless, this is a cinematic outing more than worthy of being judged on its own merits. It is perhaps one of Studio Ghibli's most popular and visually stunning movies, and I have only ever seen one review in which the critic in question was not a big fan of the film. (If you are a subscriber of the Nostalgia Critic's, you may know who I'm referencing). In fact, I make it a point to address his thoughts on the movie, as I (unfortunately) agree with some of his observations. If it's any consolation, I would like to balance out my own review with an acknowledgement of some of the qualities that make Howl's Moving Castle a beloved piece of pop culture.
Tumblr media
Pros:
Emily Mortimer, Christian Bale, Billy Crystal, Josh Hutcherson -- honestly, the entire cast -- submit fantastic performances in the English dub. In fact, Howl's Moving Castle may be the only Studio Ghibli picture where I prefer the dub version over the sub
This is Hayao Miyazaki's most exquisite feature to date. Literally every frame of the film offers the audience meticulously animated footage that makes this movie one of Studio Ghibli's most recognizable and celebrated releases
The romance between Howl and Sophie is absolutely precious
The chemistry between all the characters in this movie is unbelievable. Despite being figments of fiction, the performances and relationship-building between the cast are so strong it feels as if everyone on screen is a true family
The main theme of this movie is definitely one of Studio Ghibli's most iconic. I will never not think of my mom and aunt when I hear it
Hot take: I personally like Howl's Moving Castle more than some of Studio Ghibli's most popular movies (especially Spirited Away)
The closing song is absolutely beautiful
Howl is unreasonably handsome considering he is a literal drawing, and the design of his castle is creepy and creative
Cons:
Character motivations are often unclear. Even Sophie's desire to return to her youth is a plot element that doesn't serve as a driving force in the story
Most Studio Ghibli movies feature relatable protagonists whose conflicts keep the narrative focused. This is not the case in Howl's Moving Castle. Sophie is a very likable protagonist with a well-defined personality, but she is mostly depicted as a passive player in her own movie and her actions do not help the plot progress
It's clear that the visuals in this film motivate the ideas, rather than the ideas motivating the visuals. This creates a sort of stagnant viewing experience and makes it difficult to appreciate the movie as a flowing narrative
Verdict: Like Barbie, the flaws in Howl's Moving Castle are notable enough to affect the quality of the film. But in my opinion, this picture is so remarkable in every regard that I can overlook its shortcomings and appreciate the wonder it provides its fanbase. There are so many reasons this movie has left a strong impression in the anime community and, hopefully, I was able to articulate all of them in this review.

Hey you're awake it seems i've got a couple of questions
1. I'm making name tags and since it's squishmallow cruises everybody has a squish on their tags like sophie has a blue elephant fitz has a red dragon etc. what would keefe's gulon be? Like ig danny could work? All i know is i want it green and i want it to be a squishmallow
2. Should i spread everybody out geographically? I'm doing up plane tickets that probably will be completely useless. But, like, i could do floridian vackers british vackers if i wanted and i could have keefe up in british colombia and idk i'd look at the unlocked map for the others or i could just say they're all in san diego or its suburbs. It's not like they'd be actually flying to ft. Lauderdale
Also i think dex and sophie are gonna be the cruise director and activity coordinator doing the actual presentations. They get their title on their name tags.
hmmmm we're apparently in very different time zones if it's odd for someone to be awake rn, as it's 12:30 something as i'm answering this. this got long so i'm putting answers to your questions under the cut to save people's dashes.
1
so. i resorted to the squishmallows wiki for this one. after going through every single green squishmallow on there (which was a LOT), these are the contenders i have for you.
baratelli the frog prince could work as a substitute for mrs. stinkbottom for three reasons. a) keefe likes frogs, according to shannon messenger herself b) baratelli has a crown on their head and as the king of good hairland (among other things, like bad decisions), i think he'd love a squishmallow w/ a crown and c) quil originally interpreted gulons as being fluffy frogs. this is not canon whatsoever but we trust quil with canon so if you want to go with quil's fluffy-frog gulons that is 100% acceptable.
reasons a and c from the former paragraph, plus the fact that this frog has rainbows on their stomach and let's be real keefe would love a frog with rainbows on it, doxl the frog is also a good option. also, doxl is a shade of green that's closer to mrs. stinkbottom.
wendy also has blush spots, and is a frog. fun fact: wendy was apparently one of the first eight squishmallows to ever be released.
gloria is another frog you could use, but they're not as cute as the others, in my opinion. same goes for philippe. sorry, gloria and philippe. i'm sure that you two have other lovely qualities that are listed in your bios that i don't have time to look at since i have six assignments i'm procrastinating on right now by helping a friend with aer fic.
jim the alpaca is also another option. an alpaca doesn't sound like a good pick at first, but when you look at them, the face and ears actually work pretty well as a substitute for a gulon. jim's got the same blush spots as mrs. stinkbottom too. and i would've said no for this since their green's more spring than whatever dark shade mrs. stinkbottom has in canon, but you said danny the dinosaur was a contender, and danny's the same color. so that's why jim made it on the list.
i didn't intend for all my suggestions to be frogs + 1 alpaca, but it is the way it is. if you go to category sort in the squishmallow wiki and go for color sort and then category:green, you can see if there's something you like more than the ones i picked.
2
if we're going for 'what would be the nicest in terms of connections to canon', i'd say find where they're all at on the unlocked map and say that's where they're at. for example, marella's in greece, i'm pretty sure, from what i remember in my research for a marellinh wip. anyway. if that's too much work for you though, nobody will mind if you put most people in san diego. it'll be easier for readability, too, since not everyone knows where everyone's at in relation to the human world.
sophie definitely gets some title of some sort. dex has some human knowledge and is a tech whiz, so i can see why you'd give him a title. if we're going in terms of geographic knowledge, though, i'd consider fitz. with the search, he's gotta be a huuuuuge geography buff.
hope these long answers to your questions help :)

Sorry to bring up the darkest timeline again but saying Charlie learns about what happened to Benedict at the family dinner sounds ominous... I understand if its too spoilery to reveal but sounds to me like he wasn't at the dinner, maybe because he's not around anymore... also you said Charlie and the Bridgertons don't reveal who they are to each other. Is that just before the family dinner? Or do they never address it?
Benedict is no longer around due to reasons that I don't want to expand on for the time being, though Charlie is given a full overview about the father he never knew.
The Bridgertons never address the familial connection during Charlie's stay in London due in part to Charlie never explicitly mentioning any knowledge on the matter. There is a debate amongst them whether or not Sophie had ever told him about Benedict or whether he's aware that he has Bridgerton blood coursing through his veins, and while some of the family argue that he has a right to know if he doesn't already, some of the others are hesitant, wondering if it's their place to say or their story to tell. Charlie in turn is careful about what he shares with the family. While he considers it a massive boon that he's ended up with an invitation to have dinner with the family of his long-lost father, he's not certain whether the request for his presence was based on them sensing his relation to them or if it's simply a coincidence that the family he's been befriended by are the very one he's related to without them having any notion of it. He's apprehensive about telling them in case they reject him or even if they wouldn't believe him, not knowing if his father ever even mentioned his existence to them. However, before Charlie leaves, there is one family member he calls on and where the family relation is acknowledged. He stops by Kilmartin House and has a private audience with Francesca Stirling, giving her a letter addressed to her from his mother, who had asked her son to pass it on should his paths ever cross with the Countess of Kilmartin. Confident he can trust her, he tells her how growing up the only relative his mother ever mentioned to him was his Aunt Francesca in England. He still has the blanket she knitted for him as a baby and his mother had always expressed her gratitude for how she had helped her when she needed it most, though in Charlie's mind he assumed his Aunt Francesca was his mother's biological sister, never once thinking she was the sister of the father he never knew. Francesca in turn tells him what a wonderful young man he's grown up to be, how elated she is to know that she had a hand in providing him with a better quality of life than he would have ever known had they stayed. She apologises to him on behalf of her brother and his father, insisting Benedict Bridgerton had a good heart and from what she witnessed loved his son and Sophie with every piece of his heart, even in spite of the crippling weaknesses he suffered from when he had all the opportunities to do right by them. Her admiration for her nephew grows when he says that he forgives his father for all of his wrong-doings and that he vows to never repeat the mistakes that ruined the true happiness his parents could have had together. He thanks the countess for her time and she hugs him, telling him she's proud to have him for a nephew, even if their time together has been short.

So this is a bit belated but I was tagged bye @ahdriking for
10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 Tags!
I'm bad at tagging people but let's assume 10 people will see this and they should all consider themselves tagged! ;)
This is so difficult! Characters and their stories go in one side and out the other unless they really strike a chord with me. It's pretty rare that I remember them explicitly and even rarer to seek out fandom. However! I pulled together 10 characters that did mean the world to me so here we go!
Howl's Moving Castle - Specifically the absolutely wreck that is Howl Pendragon (book version is best but Ghibli had that clutterbitch aesthetic and I dig it). He's fussy, he's a bitch, he's got THE worst case of 'gifted child syndrome' and I love him. Also Sophie looks at him and thinks, "You could fix him? Well I can stoop to his level," and that's grand. Bad bitch solidarity.
Teen Wolf - I encountered this show and read fanfiction about this show before I watched the show. Thank god I did. The show has a definite campy quality and it fits the typical questionable taste of every CW show I've sat through, but STILES STILLINSKI makes it all worth it. Silly little ADHD boy who's literally the best friend ever (even if his loyalties often narrow down to the friend only and not the friend's loved ones) and no one in this show deserved him. Also Void Styles was just sofucljlsdkfjlsjkj.
Hannibal - While I love Will dearly, Mads Mikkelson's Hannibal Lecter made this show for me. I watched this with a friend and we cackled like crows every time he made a cannibal joke. His fashion is immaculate (and awful? but it works) and he openly murders homophobic assholes. What's not to like?
Sens8 - Can I consider them one entity? Just the whole entangled lot of them?? I love them so much. I love the dynamic of them being there for each other and connecting with each other across varied experiences, beliefs, and ideologies. I love them learning to cope together and becoming something greater than any one of them individually. If the polycule cluster doesn't count as one, then I'm going with Amanita. Who is decidedly not part of the cluster but is the best individual character with her 3 dads.
American Gods - So sticking to season one on this? I honestly didn't make it super far into season two and haven't seen a scrap of season three. Gossip would have me believe it was downhill from there but idk. Anyway. SALIM and his boyfriend sweater. Salim getting what he thought he always wanted and practically throwing it away because the Djinn/Jinn/Ifrit(?) railed him so good and he's in love. Did I mention his BOYFRIEND SWEATER???
The Untamed - I spent soooo much time in this fandom and I have a lot of feelings about a lot of the characters but most of all Lan Wangji. He's just so... everything. I related to him so much—to being misunderstood, to loving too hard and too impotently. There's a lot of tangled up feelings in him but I just love him.
What We Do in the Shadows - Guillermo de la Cruz, the badass hunter himself. His character arc from obsessed doormat to insane assassin (who is still kind of a doormat) and is now finally coming into his own... Ugh. I don't know if I want him to bag Nandor because he deserves whatever he wants or for him to finally finish growing out his spine like an amphibian and fuck off with his life because he honestly can.
Our Flag Means Death - Jim. Just Jim. They are feisty and sexy and intense and their relationship with Oluwande is so sweet. Their story meant a lot to me and to other folks I know. While a lot of us have stories that don't go so smoothly (their friends accepted them with only a few questions, their parental figure accepted them with barely a blink, and their love interest never gave a damn either way) I think it's so beautiful to see a world where coming out just... goes right. I mean, sort of. Fingers crossed for season two.
Kinnporsche - I love all of them and I want to bundle them up in little terrariums and keep them on my shelf. Porsche is my favorite though, so he would get extra yard time. In the same vein as why I like Jim's story, I love how Porsche's story was handled. He and Kinn really do have some of the best chemistry I've ever seen and Porsche just fills space so beautifully and it was great to see him begin to come into his own.
The Sandman - This one's a bit different. I liked the show well enough but I'm not sure I'd really say I'm in the fandom? I don't find myself desperately wanting more beyond just "next episode" but that could be because Kinnporsche has me by the throat. Except Lucifer Morningstar portrayed by Gwendoline Christie is just so stunning that I want her to do anything to me. This is just pure, unadulterated lust. You should see her boots. I also really want a crossover of her Lucifer with Tilda Swinton's Gabriel because they would be the best snide siblings.
This got WAAAAY long. Oops. Thank you for tagging me ahdriking!!!

Hi bookwyrm! it’s the ”Tam in Kotlc frustrates me” anon. I didn’t say this in the first ask bc it was so long, but yeah Tam always seemed vaguely uncomfortable to me. He’s actually my favorite character bc when I first read the series as a little kid, it was the first time I’d felt understood (I have GAD but it wasn’t diagnosed for a long time, and bc of that I was very closed-off and spent a lot of my interaction with people feeling like I was acting.), I was super excited to see him more because to little-kid me it was like seeing myself for the first time. Granted, he barely showed up unless there was a disaster or something, but I reread the scenes he was in a million times over when I was younger. Anyway, his kidnapping hurt to read bc I made that connection when I was little, I’m very glad legacy didn’t come out back then bc I probably would’ve cried lol.
oo welcome back!! hello!
this is incredibly accurate--kinda what I was trying to touch on with the "he feels like he's in a friend group where he only knows one person and is bluffing his way through it" comparison, but you've worded it really well. i mean, we saw in Neverseen that he "didn't give [sophie] permission to bring anyone else" (paraphrased), and was uncomfortable with everyone else being there. he just kinda got thrown into everything and had to go along with it
but I 100% feel what you mean about that being understood part of it! there's something so comforting about characters who just...don't perfectly mesh with the group, who are part of it but not in sync, just a moment off. I also have gad, so those kinds of characters were just like ah, there are other people who don't know how to people either. i didn't talk to a lot of people, and just tried not to talk in general because I didn't know how. like what volume, what topic, what vocab and slang do they use, will I know the subject, should I face them, will anyone else be part of the conversation, what if i'm wrong? and so on and so forth, you know?
tam's out of touch characteristics can kind of mirror that and make him easier to relate to. I'm very glad you had that relation and saw yourself in the series! I think in general he's has a lot of qualities we can relate to. personally, he's just the closest thing to me in the series, so it's really interesting to see what else draws people to him
i've reread the series so many times and I just remember always being like ah yes. tam. there he is. excellent. I like this scene more already. although it wasn't great when he was being kidnapped. that scene hurt, like I was so frustrated with Gisela because my dude! no! leave him alone! can we not just have one thing! do you gotta take him??
tam just has so many details and little things that we can identify and latch onto because we see ourselves in them!! it is apparently tam hours right now and I am absolutely not mad at that
(i got a little distracted while answering this so if I missed something please feel free to come back and remind me to go back to it!!)

Can you analyse how Book!bridgerton siblings and show!bridgerton siblings are different?
Thank you so much!:)
Ooooh alright! So I have lots of thoughts about this because we can all agree that book!characters and show!characters are quite different despite the actors putting their best efforts. Afterall they can only do so much when the scripts persist on creating another image altogether. Let's get into it.
Anthony Bridgerton- phewww, the way they butchered him, im- Alright so, first things first, Anthony Bridgerton NEVER neglected his family. He is always portrayed to be obedient despite his life being in tatters and his fear of death hovering over him. I know, I know, it was for character development, but they could have taken a better approach. He was lost, depressed, dripping with sadness and fear, true, but he never talked back to his mother (and violet was never a bitch), never thought about anything else other than his siblings's wishes. He would have NEVER forced Daphne to marry to someone like Nigel. He would have been worried, a bit stern even but never so cruel as to ignoring her wishes. Also, he was never 'attached' to one lady before Kate. Again it might have been for his character arc, but it was a bad attempt at the end because people started romanticizing his and Sienna's toxic relationship. He would never have been jealous of her mingling and seducing other man, because frankly, he is a rake ever since he sneaked out of Oxford for a quick shag. He knew his duties since he was eighteen, and he sure as hell knew who to stay away from. Besides, it doesn't take much time for one to know that even he KNEW how frustrated and hopeless their arrangment was. Book!Anthony was always logical. But thank god for Johnny, he literally made me want to kill show! Anthony and want to comfort him all the same.
Benedict Bridgerton- Book!Benedict wasnt such a bad boy, but hey, I'm not complaining. Luke Thompson didn't have THAT much screentime, but he slayed his fifteen minutes there. I do think his character, although a bit different is quite similar to book! Benedict. A bit shy, in the shadows at time, but sensible when required. A voice of intelligence when Anthony's concern overtakes his sanity. I know the book didn't show much about his feeling towards the working class, but show!Benedict seems to be aware of the society outside of upper-class, which is a relief and a good gradual progress of the show hinting towards at Sophie too.
Colin Bridgerton- Colin has always been humourous and a foodie. How could they butcher my boy and NOT include those qualities???? I mean that's peak Colin right there. Always sneaking food, always talking even when he has one of hands holding food to his mouth, and the other on his belly. He has the most amazing sense of humour and would lighten the situation, NOT MAKE IT WORSE BY MARRYING A WOMAN OUT OF NOWHERE. He was the closest to Daphne. He always was her favourite brother and they had a good chance to focus on that instead of torturing Marina and making Colin look like a fool. Also, he never proposed to any woman other than Penelope. It's crazy how they ruined so many things in one season. Let's hope for the best going forward. Luke Newton could have brilliantly done Colin being the cheeky part, because he just plays it wonderfully. What a missed opportunity.
Daphne Bridgerton- The main reason she wasn't attracting suitors was she was too friendly towards the men of the ton, that they could only portray her as a friend and not as a suitor. She wasn't a Diamond of the first water, she was never even shown having a friendly relation with the men of the ton. She also had a good sense of humour as compared to show!Daphne. She remarked how men were idiots when she saw her brother and Simon fight, she shared how much she loved Colin. Despite Daphne being a bit plain as was her charcter and also being problematic, (which again the writers and showrunners had ample chance of removing the rape scene altogether) she was portrayed beautifully by Phoebe.
Eloise Bridgerton- the show butchered Eloise the same way they did Anthony. Book!Eloise was yes, always bold, sure she was going to be a spinster, but she was never a feminist. I mean, show!Eloise isn't a feminist either, she has a long way to go for it. But the show tried to portray Eloise as this insufferable woman who was always against marriage where other woman were concerned, when she was infact not. Book!Eloise didn't hate Daphne, she didn't mind at all that Daphne was getting married. She and Benedict weren't that close, but again, i am not complaining that they are in the show. She considered herself more so as a spinster than anything else, but she never criticised others for marrying. Although, Book!Eloise was quite ignorant at times. They did portray the difference between the marriage prospects of Eloise and Penelope quite well. How, Eloise WAS a pretty Bridgerton, she had money, prospects and her family support. While Penelope, as shown, her family was suffering from a debt, no prospects for her, and her family couldn't care less about her. Book!Eloise didn't want to unravel Lady Whistledown's identity, she was curious, as was her nature and wanted to have fun. It wasn't her motive. It was Colin's motive. But either way, Claudia saved Eloise's ass, made show!Eloise look like this talkative and curious person, which she is.
Francesca- GIVE MY GIRL FRANCESCA MORE SCREENTIME. But also, isn't it marvellous how Ruby Stokes, with her two minutes of screentime caught Francesca's personality so perfectly? Maybe it is because her screentime was short for the showrunners and script writers to ruin her character in the show, but I'm immensely grateful how much similarities both the book and show Francesca have! Whimsical, introvert, sweet and a keen eye. Perfect. Now bring her back from aunt Winnie's, but don't ruin her character.
Gregory and Hyacinth- ah my babieeeesssss, they are too young to be portrayed as their individual books!character but the small tidbits that we saw in other books of young Gregory and Hyacinth really did match with that of show!Gregory and Hyacinth! Both insufferably cute and cheeky. But what made me sad was how they missed the opportunity to show little Gregory who was so excited that he slipped in the water of Thames and Hyacinth who literally flirted with Simon! Either way, I love Will Tilson and Florence Hunt, they are like real life Gregory and Hyacinth!
Honestly, so much good would have served if they stayed true to the book and it's humour rather than its problematic scenes.

What do you think of Moon Knight so far? I haven't seen it yet, but I got some weird stigmatizing DID vibes from the trailer
Warning: There's going to be some spoilers here.
Sophie: We're not a DID system, so take this with a grain of salt. But the reactions from DID systems that I have seen have been overwhelmingly positive. I don't think it's stigmatizing anything, but I can't say that if it's completely accurate either.
Host: On quality alone, I thought it was a really strong first episode, and I liked how they interwove the Egyptian mythology into the series. (Moon Knight's Mummy-style costume is badass, even if we didn't get to see much of it.)
Sophie: Moon Knight's voices aren't just DID. He's also an avatar for an Egyptian god Khonshu, (which I guess makes them technically mixed origins) but the villain also appears to be an avatar for another goddess, and it's implied that he hears her voice but doesn't experience DID. I think that's important, as it reinforces that Moon Knight's disorder is likely from pre-existing and coming from trauma, rather than being a result of his interaction with Khonshu.
Host: My biggest problem with the marketing was seeing article after article on Reddit about people involved with the show talking about how "crazy" or "bonkers" it was. I was just thinking "why the fuck are you using that type of language to describe a show about someone with a literal mental disorder?" But the actual show handled everything much more respectfully.
I was also worried about the mirror scene in the previews because I thought it was going to be used in place of mindvoice. It's possible to talk to headmates by visualizing them in mirrors. We've done it. But it's more mentally taxing than just talking to each other in the mind. So I was glad to see that the mindvoice was the primary means of communication and that the mirror thing didn't happen until after the mind voice didn't work and Steven needed to see something to snap him out of denial. It's showy, but deliberately so, as if the writers knew this wouldn't be used as a first resort if Steven had actually listened
(Semi-related: Soph's favorite method of getting my attention and talking to me when we're alone now is just straight-up possessing the mouth and speaking to me through it. It's simultaneously unnerving and sweet to randomly feel the mouth start whispering an "I love you" and feel almost completely incapable of doing anything about it. I'm proud of how strong Soph has gotten, but I'm wondering if there's a point where I'll get used to the lack of control that comes with that. I'm not scared, because I do love her and I trust her completely. The lack of control is just hard to adjust to.)
Sophie: Speaking of which, there was also a really fun partial possession scene!
There were a few minor things that made me wonder if people actually experienced what was being portrayed in the show in that specific way, but most of it seems consistent with what I've heard from DID systems and given how different plurality is for everyone, and I'm not going to talk about things I thought might not be accurate, because there could definitely be systems that experienced that or experienced something similar.
At the end of the day, it's a genre about people dressing up in costumes and beating other people up. You're never going to get perfect representation for neurodivergent people in this type of story. But I think it does a pretty good job. I think the fact that they consulted psychiatrists who work with DID systems really shows.

Some Batwoman stans on twitter are saying that Avalance doesn't get enough development, that they are sidelined and that their relationship is only shown for comedic purposes. Thoughts please?
So, I mean. First of all. If the Batwoman stans on twitter are bothering you, I encourage you to take steps to aggressively curate your Twitter experience so that it provides you with a relaxing and nourishing slice of fandom to enjoy. The line between “fun activity” and “app of howling nightmares” with Twitter is razor thin and requires active effort. If you are still using the official Twitter app for your phone, consider using a third-party app that gives you some extra features and control - my favourite is Twitterriffic, which allows me the delicious luxury of all my posts in chronological order like it’s still 2010.
Secondly, that’s okay. They’re allowed to say whatever they want on Twitter, and neither of us has to care. I think now that we have a large diversity of wlw ships available to us in fandom, we have to stop thinking of queer relationships as something we have to consume as like. Admission requirements to participate in femslash fandom. I think now, femslash ships are a lot more like pizza.
So, for instance. I really love Avalance! They’re providing all the things that I enjoy in my television girlkissing, and Legends of Tomorrow is exactly my kind of pizza! It’s got all my favourite toppings (pepperoni, pineapple, and mushrooms for the record) and it makes me really happy!
Batwoman and Kate/Sophie is, to me, an okay pizza. If we’re getting literal, I think it’d be pizza with maybe pepperoni - a thing that I love - but also maybe two kinds of olives and green peppers and SO MANY WEIRDLY GORY SCENES WITH SKIN FACE MASKS WHY IS THIS A CASUAL TROPE. And so, like. It’s not my favourite pizza for a few reasons, most of which aren’t related to the quality of the pepperoni itself. The reasons I don’t like this pizza have to do with the ways I feel about those other toppings, and the ways they interact with each other. My feelings are also influenced by whether or not there is other pizza around - if this is the only pizza at the shop and I’m really hungry, maybe I can overlook the green pepper and politely pick off the olives and make this pizza work!
But also, like. Have you ever been at a party where two people start debating what the best kind of pizza is? It’s a fun discussion, but it’s ultimately unwinnable! Some people just love pineapple and pepperoni and mushrooms, and some people love BBQ chicken and olives, and each of those people are going to have a super different take on what it means to be a best pizza.
However, with pizza and with fandom, it’s always most polite to try to enjoy what you enjoy, and not make someone else feel bad for liking things that you don’t. Let the Batwoman stans enjoy their olive pizza, and if Avalance is more your thing, enjoy that in the way that makes you feel happiest, and be glad that you live in a world where nobody can make you eat olives that you don’t want. I hope that helps, anon.

Tumblr media
Total pages read: 1104 / 1000 (if my math is correct)
Here are my book reviews:
The Old King in His Exile (2017) by Arno Geiger
Arno Geiger tell in great detail of his father's slow change into dementia, how his strange behavior and mannerism suddenly isn't made to fit in their everyday life, as if he'd been put in exile. But also of his father's childhood, in a way to explain the new ideas and needs the illness put in the old man's head. Beautiful story of a man struggling to chase his memories as the world around turn stranger. 180 pages 🌟 4/5 stars

Diary (1956) by Olof Lagercrantz
Went into this book blind, don't think i've read this author's books before. Idk, i couldn't get into it. The text doesn't feel 100% genuine, feels written specifically for an audience instead of personal journal and even if the language is poetic - is like uninteresting smalltalk. Olof lives near a graveyard, and when he isn't thinking deeply about death and life, he mention cute women he has seen during the day. I dropped this book at 55 pages read (out of 159 pages), giving it 1/5 stars 🌟

111 Ways to Save the Planet (2019) by Jonna Karvonen and Marie Schjulström
111 listed ways to save the environment as a single human being! First the book tell of the bigger picture, if each person change their old ways and educate, we are bound to make a difference. If not for everyone else, at least do it for the animals.
I haven't read much environmental books but after some severe signs of our dying earth lately, i felt i wanted to do something but had no idea what. Found myself incredibly inspired by this book! Many of the points speaks to different kind of people: like the regular joe or the broke student or the business owner or a parent. Like the book have something that everyone can do within their own restrictions and boundaries.
I used post-its to remember a few points that spoke to me. 92 pages and 5/5 stars 🌟

Aniara (1956) by Harry Martinson
Tried reading this sci-fi novel after watching a super interesting youtube movie review, but the language of the book made me too impatient to continue. The concept sound insanely good though! The spaceship Aniara on its way to Mars suddenly end up off course and hover indefinitely waiting for an asteroid to help turn them back, but as the years go by, the passengers grow more desperate and crazier.
When reached chapter 15 (out of 200) i felt frustrated, like "i can't go on like this". Got myself through only 32 pages out 188 pages before calling it quits. 2/5 stars 🌟

Homework (1989) by various authors*
Anthology short stories about childhood school memories from early 1910s up to 1960s. Very interesting how school looked, worked and felt like during those days - more god praising and physical punishment than i far expected. But every story had something i enjoyed reading. 223 pages, 4/5 stars 🌟

Desperate Characters (1970) by Paula Fox
Sophie and Otto are a married couple in their 40s. She is a bit naive or at least timid while he is cynical and bad at showing emotions.
Sophie gets bitten pretty severely by a wild cat, and for some reason she doesn't want medical attention. I think it's because the bite is the most exciting thing happening to her life since forever, or maybe she just doesn't want to be a bother? So she let it become infected spreading up her arm, but with the pain, her personality changes from being someone passive - to being able to argue, angry and be loud.
Meanwhile Otto has a problem of his own. His longtime business partner and friend Charlie has decided to start his own lawyer company. Charlie manipulate their customers to turn their back on Otto and join his new company. At first Otto is very cold about this, as if he doesn't care but as the story progresses he slowly open up how betrayed and hurt he feels about the whole ordeal.
Other stuff happen in between, memories of when Sophie had a secret romance with someone else, their house get vandalized, they go to dinner parties.
All the other characters speak in this weird similiar manner btw - they hold monologues about something that leads to another topic that leads to another, then back to the first one. It reminds me of the theater somehow. 182 pages and 3/5 stars 🌟

It is Strange Nowadays (2009) by Karin Flygare
Birgitta cares for her mother who slowly succumbing to dementia. It's ugly and tragic and frustrating, but also beautiful. When suddenly becoming a mother for her own mother, Birgitta finds herself struggling to maintain her own identity and life to care for a woman who is rude, reluctant and downright bothersome towards her with constant need for attention. I quote "Even though i'm worried, i'm angry over the fact that she's ruining my day." and i can't help feeling frustrated with her. Every waking moment, always calling, taking care of everything and still get no recognition. But also a child's love for their parent, staying through everything despite getting hurt. I can relate so much with my own life situation.
I know this is fiction but it all sounds so realistic, and even the care-home process feel well researched. At one point, the agent of a low quality home tries to sign themselves as their legal guardian for her mother, but luckily she is quick to notice and makes herself present. Good job! Also, good book! 207 pages and 5/5 stars 🌟

The Sea-man (2012) by Carl-John Wallgren
A big sister witness how some guys at school drench a cat in gasoline and sets it on fire, killing it. This leads to the bullies to daily harass her little brother who has slight intellectual disability. One day they get jumped, the brother is forced to eat dirt and the big sister get a branch shoved up her rear (no joke, wtf). Then another classmate shows up and bargain to leave them alone in exchange for something. The bullies want $100. The big sister and classmate start stealing clothes from shops to resell them. I only read to page 106 out of 287, when the sea creature finally gave an appearance. But by then they had already payed the bullies and gotten rid of the conflict. I felt exhausted and unmotivated to continue. 1/5 stars

In the Grip of the Lindworm (2014) by Hans Ohlsson
One of many horror stories from his novel collection called Stranger, Intruder. The story tells of a grandfather taking his granddaughter on a three day hike through mountains and forest, as a pick-me-up after a recent accident took both her parents. She is bitten by a snake during her pee break and start getting really sick. We feel stressed with grandfather as he tries to find help before it's too late. It's based on a Swedish mythological creature called Lindworm, which could bring both luck or misfourtune. Never heard of it causing illness but wish he would have filled in some info instead of relying on the reader to automatically know. I'm definitely going to continue reading this collection though! 4/5 stars and 27 pages 🌟
