destined or doomed? (2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( pairing ) : five hargreeves x reader
( about ) : inspired by s3ep10 ; five suffers a loss greater than anything he could have ever imagined — part 2 of this but reading both isn’t necessary. you can still enjoy (or suffer through) either one individually
( warnings ) : death trope, descriptions of blood and injury
( words ) : 2000
( note ) : my ideas aren’t getting any happier, i fear. blame s4 of stranger things. anyway i’m sorry this is so short i just wanted to write something sad
Somewhere along the line, something went wrong. Something always goes wrong.
“There were never seven bells or horsemen. You brought us here to die!”
“There were never seven bells or horsemen. You brought us here to die!”
Shock lays thick in the air, a palpable wave of rage annihilating any previous trace of fear. After Klaus’ fortunate return from the dead and the revelation that Reginald had, in fact, collectively betrayed what remains of either Academies, the tension is so intense it could be worthy of giving the Kugelblitz a run for its money.
Then, again, that might have been the whole point. Reginald and his meticulous plans couldn’t have been made on a whim. Who’s to say this moment wasn’t anticipated?
Following a similar conclusion, Five racks his brain for a plan. Silently, he runs through the situation at hand:
First, there’s the significance of the number seven — seven bells, seven kids, Number Seven being the most powerful of each batch. It’s unbelievable that he’s only putting them together now. It’s outrageous. Even as children, they were being raised like pigs for slaughter. In the grand scheme of things, they were nothing but collateral damage in the great mission to save the universe. They were the keys, melted and reformed for their father’s ridiculous purpose.
“That’s not so.” Reginald’s response is immediate, defensive, only enforcing your assumptions. “Somewhere in this hotel is the key to resetting the universe. We just need to find the sigil!”
“I don't care about your sigil! None of us do.” There’s something gut-wrenching about the way Sloane screams, the soft-spoken woman long-gone. Instead, here stands a person struck by unimaginable grief, a widow and the only remaining half of a freshly-wedded couple bloomed from tragedy.
Second, Five continues, if they were the keys, somewhere in the hotel must be the locks. But, of course, they’re guarded by blood-thirsty samurais because when have they ever been given an easy task?
He takes a step forward.
“What do you think you’re doing?” you whisper, stopping him when you see the determination etched on his face. It’s a dangerous look — a sign of impulsivity that could get you all killed.
“I need to talk with the Old Man. I think it’s time to start asking the important questions, don’t you?” Someone else might believe it. After all, what’s so strange about needing to talk?
Only that Five has a bad tendency to strike before asking questions.
“You can’t kill him!”
“If he starts talking, I won’t need to kill him.” You hold a firm gaze, trying to match the unbeatable stubbornness in Five. It isn’t easy. Natural rigidity and an additional lifetime to enhance it isn’t an advantage you have, neither is it something you ever particularly wished for.
“I mean it, Five. He’s the only one here who knows anything about this place. If he dies, we’re stuck here.”
“Well, we’re going to die, anyway.” He says it so calmly that it makes your blood boil. Here you are, trying to save his life, and what do you have to show for it? Does he even care to start over? Would he want to grow older with his newfound freedom with you? It definitely doesn’t seem like it right now. You don’t understand this new recklessness, only that it seems to be a common phenomenon for people who have accepted death. Is that what’s going on here?
The next time you take a step forward to stop him, your foot catches his. Having overestimated your distance, the contact throws you off-guard and you lose your balance. Five, attentive despite his apparent impulsiveness, catches you by the arm with another hand supporting your waist.
As he leans forward, he finds himself looking at the ground. He glances at the spot where your feet have landed and the solid shape of a six-pointed star, sliver against the varied tiles of black, brown, and white. Then, he raises his head to get a better view of the pattern. From a distance, two tiles of the same color — two white, two brown, two black — all placed vertically from one another, make a larger six-pointed star.
Confused as to why he hasn’t let go, you try to catch his attention.
“What is it?” There’s a second where he doesn’t seem so sure, either.
“I think… I think I might have something.” He takes your arm, the one he’d caught to stop your fall, and tears you away from the group, leading you up the stairs. The tension amongst the group is still so overwhelming that nobody notices you leave.
You watch Five, still and calculating. “Seven bells,” he breathes. “You were standing on it!” Staring at the same view, the entirely of the hotel lobby, you’re hit with realization.
“The stars. Seven stars, seven Academy kids.” Five leans forward over the railing, calling to everyone’s attention.
“Hey, I found the sigil! It’s on the–” He doesn’t get to finish the sentence.
To your left, the ceiling shatters, glass flying everywhere. Instinctively, you rush to push Five out of the way.
It all happens so quickly that the shock doesn’t set in until you’re staring at the blurred ceiling, Five’s face blinking in and out of your vision. You don’t hear him scream for a long time until your senses come back, gradually. First, your hearing, then your sight. Finally, a sharp pain strikes your back.
“No,” Five whispers, breaths ragged. “No! No!” It takes a little longer, in the midst of pain and temporary unconsciousness, to notice the blood soaking into your clothes. You can’t tell whether it’s that or Five’s embrace radiating heat through your body.
He managed to catch you again. He always does. He presses his blazer against your back, hands shaking as he tries to stop the bleeding. Judging based on the point of pressure, the cut ranges through your lower back, all the way to the top of your spine, just inches away from your shoulders. At this point, the best case scenario would be permanent paralysis — spending the rest of your life almost entirely paralyzed. You might have minutes or hours until you lose all motion or feeling below your shoulder. That is, of course, if blood loss doesn’t kill you first.
You want to laugh. Or cry. As your luck would have it, of course you’d die just as you find a way to save everyone else.
“Go,” you manage to whisper. Selfishly, a part of you would prefer to die in Five’s arms, his eyes the last thing you see before taking your final breath. But your better judgment would hate to watch him in agony as you leave. So, you decide that you wouldn’t make him wait and watch. You couldn’t.
“No… I won’t… I’m not leaving you here to die!” he stutters. “We can still get out of here. We’ll get you help, alright?” His voice is desperate, one the verge of breaking. You’ve never heard that before. Not from him.
You know, realistically, as the adrenaline wears off and you feel the torn flesh of your back like a fire ablaze, that this isn’t a tragedy that a person can survive. That a fate like this isn’t placed on a person who might live to see another day.
“I don’t think I’m gonna make it this time, Five.” You try not to let your emotions get the best of you, the mortification on his face tugging at your heart. “And I won’t let you risk everyone else for a chance that I might live. We don’t know what will happen next.”
You want to ask him to be strong, but it’s an unfair demand to make in the face of grief. It doesn’t feel right to ask him to turn a blind eye to death when he has witnessed so much of it… when he has lost so much to it.
“I don’t care about what happens next,” he tells her, his voice turbulent. “Not if you won’t be there.”
“Five—”
“No! I was supposed to die with you!” There’s a hint of anger that shatters something in you because the thought of dying whilst Five despised you seems like a nightmare. It would condemn you to a fate worse than Hell. “I didn’t want to reset the world in the first place. We agreed, Y/N. We were supposed to stay, the two of us.”
Unspoken, he thinks, you aren’t supposed to leave me.
You shut your eyes because you can’t stand to look at him like this. He was right. You did promise to wait out the end of the world with him. But not like this. You had made that promise under the impression that there was no other choice. That Five couldn’t be saved. That, at some point, he would suffer a fate worse than this one. But, now, there’s a way for him to survive… even at the cost of accepting that you can’t.
“You’re running out of time, Five. Seven bells, remember? You can start over. Go on that road trip, like you always dreamed about. There’s still so much of the world to see.”
“But you won’t be there.”
“Then do it for me. Please, Five,” you sob. “I don’t want this to be my fault.”
“Don’t even think that. This isn’t your fault. You were just trying to save me, remember? I’m not upset with you. I just… I can’t do this without you, Y/N. Please.”
The last thing you want to do is to go. You hate the thought of leaving Five. How is it fair that you’ll have to part just as you’ve finally found your way to each other?
“Please,” he says again. “I can’t lose you.”
Lose.
You’re hit with the realization that, at the Commission, Five hadn’t been talking to you. He was talking about you.
Don’t save the world, he had said. Or lose everything that matters. And here you all are, trying to save the world. Apparently, that effort comes with the price of losing you. Everything. Moments before his death, a life lived almost twice as long, and he had called you his everything.
It’s kind of poetic, isn’t it?
You stifle a laugh. First, because nothing should be comedic in the slightest right now. Second, because you’re scared to drown in your own blood as it climbs your throat.
“Can you still feel me?” he asks, pressing his thumb against the palm of your hand.
No, you can’t. You nod, anyway.
Somewhere downstairs, you hear Reginald call for Five.
He shakes his head like he might be trying to drown it out. But you know, somewhere inside him, his conscience urges him to go — to fight for the greater good because that’s just how he is. That’s how great of a person Five Hargreeves is.
“I’m coming back, alright?” He lifts you as he tries to kneel, setting you back down as gently as he can. He rests a hand to your cheek, coated in crimson, and places a kiss to the crown of your head before standing. He moves like it hurts him to go.
It might hurt worse to see him stay.
“I’m going to figure this out, and I’m coming back for you. I promise, I’ll come back for you.”
“Okay,” you whimper despite the pain because he looks like he needs it. He needs to hear a verbal confirmation that you’ll be alright and that you’ll see each other again and that, miraculously, this won’t be the end.
But it is. It will be.
“I love you,” he whispers into your skin, sounding all too similar to I’m sorry.
When he leaves, he takes the light with him and all you’re left with is the dark.

Ooh! I wish you would write a fic where... We get to see how you think Klaus would be doing in S4, in the reset universe. 👀
A fresh start
A Klaus Hargreeves ficlet
Tumblr media
A/N: My apologies in advance; this one got super dark. Thanks so much for the request @hucklebunny. I hope I managed to do it justice. 😘😘 Thanks, as always, to @allisoooon for putting up with my relentless screengrabs and pestering.
CW: Alcohol abuse, injury, PTSD. You know, the usual Klaus stuff
Words: 1.5K
At first, it seemed easy. New timeline, new Klaus. A new outlook on life. A fresh start, which is what (he assumed at the time) he so desperately needed.
He woke up every morning with a smile on his face. The air seemed crisper, the colours in the trees seemed brighter and more vivid, the sounds of the city seemed to come together in a beautiful medley of birdsong and wind rustling through leaves and children playing in the distance.
It was paradise. At first. A kind of Eden. And, for once, Klaus was able to explore it without the need for chemical assistance. His body seemed to have been printed anew - a perfect replica without any of its previous niggles and faults and failings. Even his IBS had cleared up, which was such a blessing - a fact he had discovered while on a late night visit to Baskin Robbins, peering through the glass counter at that big barrel of fudge ripple that no one ever changes out. He had chuckled to himself at the thought of how he’d once empathised with that almost-empty tub - all scooped out and used up. But now he was a full barrel - a fresh batch of tutti frutti with extra scoops piled on top. No more ghosts. No more ghouls. No more horrifying flashbacks of locked mausoleums and overhead rotor blades and shells landing by his feet. Just a blissful new beginning, every morning of every day.
Tumblr media
Luther, on the other hand, was miserable.
At first, he’d been optimistic and focused. He had managed to secure them a small apartment (which was a difficult enough feat in itself without the proper identification and credit history) creating a base from which to look for Sloane. He passed out flyers, he stapled posters to telegraph poles, he scoured the HarNet message boards for any sign or clue or smoke signal - a breadcrumb that might lead him back to her.
But nothing came. Before long, Luther had sunk into a deep depression. Every evening, Klaus would return from his job waiting tables at a nearby diner and find his brother in exactly the same position in which he had left him; slumped on the sofa, surrounded by cans and fast food packets, eyes staring through the TV, which was permanently tuned into HNN, rolling non-stop with news from the Hargreeves Empire.
It was pointless to try to move him. Any attempts to rouse him were met with a dismissive hand wave or - worse - an outburst of violent sobbing and wailing and pillow clutching.
One night, while watching news of the latest Hargreeves business venture (a small household device that anticipates your every desire and fleeting whim from minute to minute by analysing the data from your psychological profile, shopping habits, brainwaves, HarNet search history and nightly dreams) Luther had stirred just long enough to speak a single sentence: “He took everything from me. What else is left to know?”
After that, Klaus had abandoned any further attempts to lift him out of his funk. If the poor bastard wanted to be miserable, then he had earned the right to be miserable. Klaus brought home leftovers from the diner and reminded him to hydrate and that was enough.
The honeymoon period didn’t last long for Klaus either. Loneliness crept in, like a thief in the night come to rob him of any semblance of peace of mind.
Diego and Lila’s projected image of conjugal bliss didn’t help matters. Yes, they bickered non-stop, and, yes, they were just as disastrous as parents as they had been in every other aspect of their lives, but they had each other. And they had baby Ronnie.
The boy could be a tetchy, demanding infant, just like his father, but the child also had Lila’s doleful brown eyes and playful nature, which made him a delight to be around, when he wasn’t screaming bloody murder.
Unfortunately for Klaus, Diego’s domestic set-up was just another reminder of all the things he would never have: a stable home, a loving family. A warm body to hold him in the night. He started to spread his visits to the Hargreeves-Pitts household a little more thinly. And then eventually he stopped visiting them altogether.
Instead, he would take himself down to the vets’ bar after work and watch the people dashing through the rain outside the window, nursing a drink until it was time to go home and observe Luther’s continued descent into catatonic despair.
And that’s when the nightmares started again. Different this time. Less like ghostly visitations, and more like trips to a vivid alternate dimension. One in which the mingled scent of blood and gunpowder and mud still lingered in his nostrils.
Drinking deadened the senses, made the mind numb. But any escape it offered was temporary and fleeting.
The accident was the major turning point. The problem with spending one’s whole life as an immortal being with miraculous healing powers only to suddenly lose them at the age of thirty-something-ish is that you never really learn how not to get yourself killed. All the scrapes he got into as a teen, all the accidental overdoses, all the times he woke up behind a dumpster in the middle of winter had been chalked up to harmless mishaps, when in fact each one was likely a life-ending event. Klaus had never mastered the art of self-preservation because he’d never had to, until now.
He had to learn to look both ways when crossing the street. He had to learn the limits of the human body; to buckle his seatbelt, to cook his chicken all the way through. Basic shit that everyone else just knows, but which was a mystery to Klaus as he fumbled his way through this new life at which he was only granted one measly shot.
How was he supposed to know? Temptation was all around him. The keys to the golf cart had been left in the ignition. Even a sober person couldn’t have resisted a siren call that clear.
Coincidentally, he was not sober, but that seems beside the point now.
The resulting collision put him in the hospital for weeks and when he was ejected for failing to pay his bill he found himself with no job, no money and a pronounced limp.
Tumblr media
He couldn’t even turn to drugs for comfort. The old man had designed a universe without abusable substances of any kind. Klaus was forced to tough out the pain, to endure it just as his father would have expected him to.
Now there were two of them on that couch, four glazed eyes fixed on the screen, dual brains being pummelled by the endless stream of news from the universe their father had so deftly crafted with himself at the centre.
And that’s when they saw her for the first time. Allison, in all her glory. Walking a red carpet in a dark blue velvet dress, her daughter on one side and her husband on the other - two people that had only existed in a reality which was since blitzed from memory, and never at the same time.
The penny finally dropped. While Klaus and Luther were vegetating on this couch, their sister was out there living a life they could only dream of. Rich, famous, and with the perfect paradoxical family - two halves of a life meshed together to make a whole one. And, the cruellest twist of all: Allison had sacrificed Luther’s great love for her own.
Clearly, she still had her powers too. How else would she be starring in the latest 21st Century Hargreeves studio blockbuster, swishing the mermaid train of her dress down that red carpet?
She always was a mediocre actress.
Klaus could feel a bitter swell of anger building within him that he didn’t know he could possess. He and Allison had always been so close, ever since they were children and she used to paint his fingernails beneath the dining table during mealtimes and let him draw comedy beards and glasses on the faces of her rivals in the teenage magazines whose covers she graced.
But now she was like a stranger, her blank face blinking beneath the photographers’ flashbulbs, as if nothing they’d endured together had ever mattered.
Was it Allison’s deceit, or the lingering sting of another, greater betrayal that drove him to do what he did?
Perhaps it was a bit of both.
The juvenile detention centre specialised in problem cases; youngsters with paranoid delusions and homicidal tendencies. Ones too deranged to be released back into polite society, too young for the adult system.
Klaus hobbled into the visiting room on his walking stick and took a seat by the far corner, beneath the barred window, and he waited.
The young man was the last of the inmates to enter. He looked older, but only slightly. Taller too. He was obviously experiencing a growth spurt. His hair was shorter and his body was beginning to take on the wiry musculature of an adult. He flicked a hand through his fringe as he took a seat at the small formica table across from Klaus.
“I was wondering how long it would take before you came crawling to me for help,” said Five.
If you liked this, please give it a little reblog 😘😘

Luther and Klaus buddy cop vibes for S4. Luther staking out Hargreeves enterprises with a pair of binoculars in a shitty car and Klaus dressed like a wonky version of a 1940s detective.
I see you. I respect you. I tip my old detective-y hat to you.
But hear me out— we add Five to this team up
I’m thinking it goes like this:
Five knows this is bad shit right. This whole frankenstein’s monster of a timeline is unsustainable and an overall Not Good Idea. Plus the whole Overlord Reggie shenanigans. So he’s back on his gotta fix the timeline shit and looking for help on that mission.
Luther needs to find Sloane. His goals of fixing things line up well enough with Five’s (and he’s completely lost on what to do by himself) so after a brief tussle over how things are going to be run they come to a compromise (Five gets everything he wants so long as he promises to do his best to save Sloane) and they start working together.
Klaus tags along because it’s not like he’s got anything else to do. (And historically speaking he does tend to help when asked) (Because he really loves his family) (And like he MARRIED Luther and Sloane so that means he’s honor bound to protect their special relationship or something he doesn’t really know what an officiant does)
In the background Allison is having her bad bitch era, Viktor is determined not to cause another apocalypse now that he’s got at least three under his belt so he’s staying out of it, and Diego is retired to be a stay at home dad.
And sparrow Ben is reconnecting with his birth family. They dote on him and smother him but he’s too confused by actual affection (and too secretly overwhelmingly in need of it) to say anything snippy so he’s just allowing them to wrap him up in the thirty years of love that he missed. But he’s a little grumpy and a lot awkward about it.

Glad that there’s going to be a season 4 of TUA, but knowing it’s the last one leaves me a bit low. I don’t think they have time to fix all they’ve broken in a satisfying way. If season 3’s anything to go by, they’ll just throw in all the tropes people beg for on Twitter and call it a day. The idea that there was a four season plan sits weird with me, because seasons 2 and 3 didn’t feel like anyone had a plan at all, more like they were floundering for what to do with the characters after a well-structured first season. Those seasons feel like more of a waste of time now that we know there’s only one season left. Like, character arcs? Barely there.
Luther finding a love outside of the house, allowing him to branch out and learn to be his own man - that would make sense as a resolution for S4 if S3 had focused more on the situation between him and Allison, which along with his trauma had been his story through S1/2. Instead S4 might just have him looking for Sloane, with the interesting parts of that relationship already done in S3.
Diego is ready to settle with Lila, for better or worse. That again is resolution territory, so they either scramble it to give him an unhappy ending, or they keep it mostly as is, making it uninteresting to watch as we’ve watched their relationship, such as it is, develop.
Allison. I mean… Allison. One of the strongest characters for two seasons, she started out in this interesting place of some self-awareness and trying to work on herself. Season 2 pushed her into a more difficult place for that and let us watch her under pressure and she shone. Season 3 said no growth here, only daughter trauma, that’s right she had a daughter remember, well now she has remembered too and she’s so mad she’s gonna sexually assault the man who loved her until he saw another pretty girl. So season 4 either gives her a redemption arc or leans into her being a bad guy. Honestly not sure either can make up for the loss of her complexity in season 3.
Klaus. Spent season 3 working on his powers and trying to find purpose, has now lost his powers and is in a new reality. I’m worried they’ll just drop his S3 development and bring in Dave (you know, that guy from the montage in S1 and the hate crime in S2) and say ‘look, the love of his life is back’ and half of fandom will eat that up as Good Television when it’s Klaus at his most boring. Dave was a prop, motivating Klaus. We shouldn’t need him anymore.
Where is Five even at now? Like, emotionally? His plot is the most consistent - I want to unite my family but instead it’s just one fucking thing after another. We’ve seen him persevere, we’ve seen him give up. Even if he gets a life, there’s the question of whether he could really adjust to that. I think the only lasting resolution for him would be giving up on the Hargreeves, which saddens me. And I don’t know how he’d fill that void. If the show didn’t plan an ending and just didn’t get renewed, this is the kind of question that could be avoided lol.
Ben. We now have two Bens to think of, the dead one and the live one. The canon of the dead Ben isn’t the same as the live one, so this Ben really only has one season’s worth of backstory and that simplifies his main arc - can he stop being an asshole and hang out with the umbrellas? I hope he can hang with them while being an asshole. I enjoyed him in S3. I guess show-wise the question is how much of dead Ben is in him, but I’m not sure that’s a useful avenue to go down as dead Ben didn’t get that much interaction with the others for the audience to have a point to measure new interactions against. Just Klaus really, which is why it makes sense to show those two together more.
Viktor. I feel like season two diverted them from their character arc, because we should have looked at the impact of the power revelations and the decisions made by the other Hargreeves in light of that. Instead we got amnesia. It was enjoyable enough, with Sissy and all, but there was no attempt to handle the baggage that already existed. Season 3 did a little better in that regard, with Five’s speech and the determination from Viktor to protect Harlan, then Viktor just sort of faded into the background as it went on, which was a big shame because that conversation with Marcus in the diner at the start was so badass I was screaming.
So in conclusion… yeah, they’re gonna drop the ball because they’ve barely held the ball for seasons 2 and 3. If they’ve been writing to a plan it’s a terrible plan. Each of the characters have a dynamic with each other to explore as well as self-contained issues to address and the surface has barely been scraped during the displacement of season two and the fanservice of season three.
I’m hoping to fly to America to watch it with a friend so like, I really hope it’s good, I just… see no evidence it would be. It’ll either be rushed or empty.

So. Hi all. We know that Justin happily tweets a spoiler after he wraps. S2 the spoiler was that Ben died. Of course it turned out more complex than that, but like... That's the fun of speculation. Let's dive into this, because given last season I think it's WORTH diving into.
First, the obvious: "every beginning has an end." I think this could mean a few things, so I'm just gonna throw them out there. Most obviously, Sparrow Ben is the beginning that is ending and we're getting some other Ben. But, I'm thinking that this is a reference to this being the beginning of the end of TUA. Steve Blackman, showrunner, has said that he likes 4-5 season shows and that he has a plan for 5 seasons. My guess is that they have greenlighting of some sort for 4-5 seasons, and that that will end the show. We are in the beginning of the end, as of the finale of s3.
Next. "Hello oblivion." Okay this is, on its surface an obvious one, except that it turns some of MY thinking on my head. Previously I was thinking they'd get locked in the hotel this season. Now? Not so much. And honestly I LOVE that, for pacing and plot reasons. This allows the Sparrows and the plot around this alternative, dystopian, authoritarian regime to be the sole focus of s3, and gives the hotel the spotlight of s4 (with only some hints in s3). I think that's fantastic. Let's talk a bit about how I see the journey of the entire show.
S1: the siblings in their own time and place, fucking up where they belong
S2: the siblings, more or less more loving and better adjusted but out of time and place.
S3: the siblings, seeing what the world is like without them, seeing their home, but othered, destroyed. Causing a desire to act, to fix it. I think this one will be the siblings realizing they need to fix the Sparrows, make them loving, and then return where they belong. This will of course look different for different siblings (still holding out for Sparrow Five) and they will fuck up along the way. They're Hargreeves.
S4: SO, the Hotel is a dimensional portal, beyond it being a villain torture device. I think s4 will be the hotel trying to break the siblings as they use it as a way to get to THEIR timeline and get back home. I see this being a decadent horror season where they have to rally EARN their right for the s5 I'm gonna describe. It's gonna hurt. They're gonna want to give up. They won't, though. They'll get to the other side.
S5: denouement. They get to a world Vanya hasn't ended. In a sense, they have all changed and grown and years, maybe a decade, has gone by.... But for their home it's been 8 days. They need to find their place in the world as less selfish, more knowledgeable (the other 43? The hotel? Other threats?), more united... Heroes. They need to prove themselves to their home, and make a place within it as the people they are now. In this ending, they finally get the rewards for their hard work, be it love, family, rest.
I've been thinking this might be the case for a while, given the set pics of the sibs wandering around and distinctly not locked up but.... I wanted to write it all out. Thanks for sticking by me!

Hey guys, haven’t made an original post in some time lol. If you guys don’t know, Steve Blackman released the episode names for season three of the Umbrella Academy. I’ve been thinking about what each episode might be about and I have a general idea for each!
Here’s the titles of you haven’t seen already:
Tumblr media
Meet the family: I think this title is a pretty self explanatory one. We’re gonna meet the sparrow academy. We’ll probably see them as kids and we’ll get to see all of their powers. I’m also sure that there is going to be a fight scene between the Sparrow Academy (SA) and the Umbrella Academy (UA).
Worlds biggest ball of twine: I think this episode is going to be the UA figuring out how their actions in the 60s affect their current present. I think Harlan, Sissy, Ray, the people at the asylum (they’re gonna thing Diego had something to do with JFK’s death or something) and the overall damage they’ve done (y’know being wanted world wide) is gonna hit them all hard in this episode.
Pocket full of lightning: Now i’m a bit stumped about this episode. When i think of lightning in a UA sense, I think of powers, which leads me to believe this could be a Five or one of the SA centric episode. We also know from the comics that Luther and Five are twins (and considering it was a big part of book three, I feel like they’re gonna work it in somehow). I feel like this episode could hint at the two of them being twins, but overall idk.
Kugelblitz: During the time when Steve was introducing the titles, he said that we’re going to have to search up what kugelblitz meant. So... i did.
Tumblr media
Because a kugelblitz has to do with energy, I feel as though this episode is going to have something to do with Vanya and her powers. If it’s not about Vanya, I feel like this could be a Reginald episode. We know the third comic is about Hotel Oblivion (which is a hotel in space), so perhaps this has something to do with how Reggie gets to the hotel/how he created it. If not, I definitely feel like this episode will have some power explosion from someone and I think that someone is Vanya.
Kindest Cut: For this episode, I have a few ideas of what it could be about. I feel like it could be about pushing forward the fact that Luther and Five are twins (like how it cuts deep that they’re twins but in some way it’s a good cut y’know. maybe they go to where they were born and find out they’re twins or something). I also feel like this episode could be about Diego. If that is the case, that means we’d get a better look into what Lila has been up to and how the commission is. I think both options are good tbh.
Marigold: This episode is definitely about Reginalds backstory. Marigold is supposed to represent the little energy orbs Reginald released in S1 E10 and the ones Vanya put into Harlan in S2 E4(?). Because of this, I feel like we’re finally going to see more of Reginalds history, as well as a bit of where Harlan is too. He was given the orb things, which leads me to believe that he’s going to have something to do with this episode.
Auf Wiedersehen: Klaus episode! There is no way this isn’t a Klaus centric episode. Klaus, is German, and so is the name of the title. Also, we know from bts photos and videos that the Berlin Wall is going to be featured in episode seven The Berlin Wall was also destroyed in 1989 (i think. not 100% sure on that if someone wants to fact check me lol). The Berlin Wall also happens to be located in Germany. So, what I think is going to happen in this episode is that Klaus is going to go to Germany to find a version of himself that wasn’t taken in by Reginald. He’s going to get upset (obvi) and he’s going to have to say goodbye to a part of him he always wished he had (auf wiedersehen means goodbye in German). I think this of it has something to do with saying goodbye to Dave. Considering Dave was dispatched early into the military, we very well could have a different outcome for him.
Wedding at the End of the World: This title reminds me of S1 E1 - We only see Each Other at Weddings and Funerals. I think this episode is going to have the same vibe as the pilot episode. We all know Allison was once married in her life time (well, she was married twice, but yk what I mean). Because of thugs, I feel that we’re going to see why her and Luther have the connection they have in this episode. I’m not 100% sure if this is true (fact check me again lol), but I think that Allison rumoured Luther into liking her. If that’s the case, I think that’s going to be revealed in this episode. This means that Wedding is a type of metaphor, if that makes sense. I also this this relates to the title of S1 E1 because of the death theme they both hold. The pilot episode references funerals, which was Reggies funeral in the first episode. Now, when you think of the end of the world, you often think of death. What happens when you die? You have a funeral. Because of this, I think Reginald is going to die in this episode, and it’s going to reveal some of his secrets which will lead to the final two episodes.
Six Bells: I feel like this episode is a part one to a two part thing with the final episode. In both S1 and S2, they had episode 9 start at the beginning(ish) of the day, and episode 10 finish the day - leaving us on a cliffhanger. I think this is going to be the same type of vibe with this season. Going off of the last episode (E8), I think Reggie is going to die and his secret is going the be revealed. What is that secret? Hotel Oblivion. I think the six bells are referencing the six Hargreeves siblings (UA) going to Hotel Oblivion, sorta how there’s those bells on the front counter that you ding when you need service. I think it’s a reference to them ‘checking in’ to Hotel Oblivion. Steve also said that the six bells is going to make sense more as we watch the season, so Hotel Oblivion could be referenced earlier on (Kugelblitz type beat?).
Oblivion: Obviously this is referencing Hotel Oblivion, which is what the third comic is about. If this is the case, I feel we’re going to see a major fight scene (bigger than the one at the end of S2), where the UA and the SA have to work together to fight all of the bed guys Reginald locked away (if you don’t know what hotel oblivion is, it’s a hotel that reginald made in space where he kicked all of the things the UA fought throughout their life time). I haven’t ras the third comic yet, but i’m pretty sure (from what i’ve heard) that the SA helps the UA fight something big, and if that’s the case, we’re going to see some teamwork in this episode. I also think this episode is going to end on a cliffhanger, cause we’re almost 100% sure there’s going to be a S4.
Anyways, this took forever to write lol. If you guys have any other ideas about what you think S3 is going to be about, lmk! I love to hear theories about this show!

end of year 2019 recs
this was meant to be posted two months ago and then it got buried in my drafts and i forgot that it existed while i started a new fic rec list for the first quarter of this year oops
[1 Borderlands, 1 Good Omens, 1 Life is Strange, 1 Marvel, 1 She-Ra, 9 Steven Universe, 1 Tangled, 1 The Adventure Zone, 1 The Last of Us, 2 The Umbrella Academy]
Borderlands
Burn Out by snufflyphoenix (VH1 gang, 5k):  As Mordecai and Brick prepare to ship out to Athenas as the Crimson Raiders' B Team with Not So Tiny Tina, Lilith worries about their safety and starts to wonder how she's going to manage without them now she's gotten so used to them always being with her again. She contemplates their relationship; how it's changed since when they first met and how they're going to manage going forwards with the world turned upside down again. [This fic balances tenderness and comfort and grief so well while capturing the dynamics between these characters and I just really love it.]
Good Omens
Choose Your Faces Wisely by Poetry (Aziraphale/Crowley, 5k):  In a world where humans wear their souls on the outside, Crowley and Aziraphale learn to make their own. [Daemon AU! It’s well-written with lots of references, cool concepts about the daemons of supernatural beings, and strong character moments.]
Life is Strange
migratory animals by swapcats (Chloe/Max, 11k): “Here,” you say, tossing the photo her way. “Check it out. Blackwell was insane for kicking me out, right?”You give her your best grin. It’s not very good, but she’s not looking, anyway. She twists the photo in her hands, turns it upright, and does nothing but blink at it.For a moment, you’re scared she’s going to fall in. Not because it’s a photo -- it isn’t even of her, isn’t more than a few hours in the past -- but because you’re more convinced than terrified that she’s just going to up and vanish. If it’s not time-bullshit, then it’ll be her having enough of putting up with your bullshit; she’s got her family out there, over in Seattle, and you’ve got a beat up truck and a few thousand dollars to your name. [Road trip fic! Full of pining and a careful exploration of their traumas and healing, it serves as a perfect epilogue to their adventure]
Marvel
dance, dance (we’re falling apart to half-time) by gleesquid (Gwen/MJ, 4k): “We were going to go dancing. Peter and I, I mean. We could still go. You and me, that is, it’s not like we need Peter to dance, or any boys at all, and he’s not very good anyways –,”“Gwen Stacy,” Mary Jane said and Gwen faltered at the sound of her own name on foreign lips. “It’s like you read my mind.”Or: Gwen and MJ will always be each other's favorite dance partner. [A perfect fic about Gwen and MJ’s growing friendship and feelings, with lots of dancing thrown in. The build-up is fantastic and it’s romantic and it’s very much them.]
She-ra
I Can Make You Stronger by inkubusmb (Glimmer, 7k): "You can really make me that powerful?""You think of yourself only as a princess, but you're the child of a great sorcerer. You have a more powerful connection to magic then you've ever realized. Let me show you."Shadow Weaver couldn't be trusted. Glimmer knew that. But after losing her mother, she knew she had to get stronger. Strong enough to protect her friends from the same fate. Strong enough to destroy the Horde. And Shadow Weaver was the only one who could give her that power. [A neat character study of something that very well might happen in s4 - Glimmer learning magic from Shadow Weaver.]
Steven Universe
Before We Turn to Dust by Mintly (Ruby/Sapphire, 6k): Their days were dirt roads and endless blue sky. It would be freedom, except it wasn't. Sapphire is a quiet country storefront and Ruby dreams. [Human!AU set in a small rural town. The writing is beautiful, the relationship and yearning between Sapphire and Ruby comes through clearly, and the atmosphere shines. It’s really good and even if you’re not a human AU fan, you should check it out.]
Cleave by susan_voight, thingswithwings (Ruby/Sapphire, 8k): “Tell me a story,” Steven asks, as he shuts his eyes. Garnet, as far as she has the capacity for it, is surprised; Steven is seventeen, and while he still has a tendency towards whimsy, he hasn’t asked for this particular indulgence for years. Not since he was a lot smaller. Garnet feels a little angry at herself for not having noticed that earlier; she feels regretful, too, that she can never seem to see any part of Steven’s adulthood coming in advance. [Garnet tells Steven a story about Ruby and Sapphire and the time they had to separate for a mission. It’s absolutely lovely, a great study of their relationship and how they grow to be even stronger.]
Little Rebellions by CompletelyDifferent (gen, 58k):  Not all Pearls have the chance to run off to another planet and take up arms. Not all fights are grand and romantic. These are the little rebellions- little, but just as defiant. [A wonderful set of interconnected one-shots centered around themes of rebellion and freedom. And all the good world-building! I loved them all.]
Only Human by mllelaurel (gen, 23k):  When a malfunctioning artifact temporarily (they hope!) turns them all human, the Gems must face down a monster infestation, while dealing with the loss of their normal powers and their own sudden fragility. [This very much reads like a multi-episode arc and it’s absolutely delightful. The insecurities and vulnerabilities the Gems struggle with are ones that are always there, but they’ve been magnified and brought to the surface with their human state and it’s just really well-done.]
Pushing By Like Hearts by mautadite (Lapis/Peridot, 13k): “Sounds like you’re really counting on that road trip magic.”(Peridot and Lapis do Midway City, and Empire City, and Plateau Ville, and all the places in between.) [Peridot and Lapis go on a road trip and it’s wonderful. Love the imagery, the development of their relationship, and the characterization.]
starwalker’s birthday by the_sockpuppet (Pearl/Garnet, 11k):  Garnet wonders if she is Rose’s replacement. Pearl wonders how Garnet could love her. [I love this fic and the way it navigates their relationship and all the insecurities they bring along to it. The focus is very much on communication and being open and working through things, and it’s very good.]
the meek shall inherit the earth by Ushio (Pearl gen, 958): "Where was her Pearl?" asks Blue Zircon. Well. She was holding the sword. [Even though this was supremely jossed, it makes for a good, poetic read.]
Waltz of the Nian by QuickYoke (Lapis/Peridot, 6k): Lapis doesn't understand fusion at heart, but she does know she's an unideal partner for it. Set after the season 3 finale. [A character study of Lapis and her relationship to fusion, and the moments when Lapis almost fuses with Peridot. It’s well-written and it handles the subject of trauma + navigating boundaries and intimacy beautifully.]
where we love is home by possibilityleft (Pearl/Garnet, 532): "You're looking at me differently now," Garnet says.Slight Pearl/Garnet. Post-regeneration for them both, Garnet and Pearl have a discussion. [Early rebellion days, a short conversation that holds a lot inside it.]
Tangled the Series
strings by pathygen (Cassandra-centric, 19k):  The weight of the stone should be concerning, but it’s not. She’s never been unfamiliar with weight. [This fic is a fascinating exploration of what could happen with the Moonstone and the ghost. It’s also a fascinating story of becoming lost in your own anger and insecurity, how that can twist you and make you someone you’re not. It’s dark and painful and I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t tear myself away from what was going on. It’s also a slow build to the final confrontation, which is stunning and one of my favorite moments in any fics I’ve read this year.]
The Adventure Zone
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow by fishycorvid (Taako-centric, 28k): The funeral of one of the birds should have more attendants than this, some part of Taako thinks. But Magnus hadn’t wanted that, of course; he’d told Taako as much decades ago, just a few years after the Day of Story and Song. Taako had laughed then, told him he’d regret it when there weren’t any adoring fans weeping and tossing flowers into his grave. Taako isn’t laughing now, here in this clearing with the body that used to be his friend. (What comes after the end.) [As you might expect from the summary and warning about character death, this fic is painful. You will cry and your heart will hurt. But it’s also very well-written and a beautiful exploration of grief and having to live on and how sometimes things don’t work. Sometimes you pretend you’re fine but you’re not, you’re on a self-destructive spiral. That said, it’s also juxtaposed with some really lovely moments between Taako and his family, his friends. Highly recommend!]
The Last of Us
landscape by januarys (gen, 854): It's the moments that define who they are, the spaces in between, and as the seasons fade into one. [A lovely stream of moments over the course of the game between Joel and Ellie.]
The Umbrella Academy
Keep Trying by pprfaith (Vanya & Klaus, 8k): At thirteen, a drunk Klaus goes wandering the mansion instead of locking himself into his room. Seventeen years down the line, he saves the world. In between, they're all just trying not to drown. (Klaus and Vanya against the world.) [This fic is lovely and healing and imagines a different world where things are still messed up because Reginald is the worst dad but there’s also support and comfort and learning how to trust.]
Try Again by pprfaith (gen, 57k):   They have outlived their father. They've managed to fix themselves. A little. Sort of. So from here on out, things should be peachy, right? [The Hargreeves get the healing and recovery they deserve, lots of good sibling dynamics, confronting what Reginald did to them, I really love this fic.]
