A Tale of Two Rifles
The Queen's Own Corps of Guides, formed in 1846 by Lieutenant Harry Lumsden in Peshawar, were the first military force to adopt khaki as a service dress. The Guides consisted of a unique combination of infantry companies and cavalry squadrons. The North West Frontier of British India where they operated was rarely quiet and although many other cavalry and infantry regiments served there, none was engaged more frequently than the elite Guides. The Guides were one of the most famous regiments in the British Empire. Since 1947 after the partition of India and Pakistan the Guides regiment was absorbed into the Pakistan Army. In time they became the (10th) Guides Cavalry and the 2nd (Guides) Frontier Force (Infantry) in the Pakistan Army.
A few months before the Second Afghan War the Guides were placed on guard at the mouth of the Khyber Pass, awaiting orders to advance into the Pass. A young Afridi soldier of the corps found himself in a painful dilemma becuase his home village lay in the path of the Guides and he would be expected to treat friends and family as hostiles. He was standing guard one night with a soldier from the Gurkha company who asked him to hold his rifle while he fetched something from his nearby tent. The Afridi now had two rifles and a dark night to cover his disappearance. When the Gurkha returned and found his fellow guard gone along with his rifle, he had to report it to Colonel F H Jenkins. Furious, Jenkins demanded to know how many more Afridis there were in the corps. When he was told that there were 17 he ordered them all to parade in front of him. They were orded to take off every item of Guides uniform and equipment there and then. The astonished soldiers obeyed. "Now," said Jenkins, "you can go, and don't let me see your faces again till you bring back those two rifles."
The next day, the Colonel may have regretted his rash reaction becuase there was no sign of the 17 men. The next day also saw no return of men or rifles, and the next. As time went on it became clear that all of them must have deserted to the enemy. Their places were filled by new recruits and they were forgotten. Until, that is, two years later, all seventeen men turned up at Mardan, the Guides depot - with the two rifles. They were ragged and dirty; they had spent all that time waging their own mini tribal war against fellow Afridis until they had at last found those two precious rifles.

How Many Provinces of Pakistan
Tumblr media
Introduction
In the diverse landscape of Pakistan, understanding the administrative divisions is crucial. This article sheds light on the question, "how many provinces of pakistan?" as we delve into the geopolitical structure that defines the nation. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country in South Asia that shares a border with Iran, Afghanistan, India, and China. Pakistan Came into existence on 14 august 1947 after the division of the former British Raj on the Indian subcontinent. The Country occupies an area of 796,096 Square kilometers. Decoding Pakistan's Provincial Makeup There are officially four provinces of Pakistan currently with 1 federal capital territory and 1 autonomous state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir ( AJK ). Although Gilgit Baltistan has also been given the status of the 5th Province of Pakistan, However still there are some constitutional issues yet to be resolved. Each province boasts a unique blend of history, traditions, and landscapes, contributing to the nation's vibrant tapestry. - Punjab - Sindh  - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ( KPK ) - Balochistan - Gilgit Baltistan
1. Punjab: The Heartland
Tumblr media
Punjab, often referred to as the heartland of Pakistan, is the most populous province. Known for its fertile plains, historical significance, and bustling cities, Punjab plays a central role in the economic and cultural dynamics of the country. Punjab is the biggest province of Pakistan in terms of the population while the second largest province of Pakistan by area after Balochistan. The Population of Punjab is more than 11 crore with an area of 205,344 square Kilometers. Province Capital City is Lahore The Punjab province has a population that is larger than the populations of Turkey, Iran, Germany, France, Italy, and Great Britain.
2. Sindh: Where Tradition Meets Modernity
Tumblr media
Sindh, home to the mighty Indus River, is a province that beautifully juxtaposes ancient traditions with modern advancements. Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan, while the province itself is a cradle of historical heritage. Sindh is Pakistan’s second-largest province in terms of population and third-largest in terms of land area, after Punjab. Sindh has a population of around 4 crores 78 lacs and an area of 140,914 square kilometers. The capital city of Sindh province is Karachi.
3. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): The Frontier Province
Tumblr media
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), formerly known as the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) is the third-largest in population and the second-smallest province of Pakistan. With a landscape dominated by rugged mountains, KP is a region of breathtaking beauty and cultural richness. Peshawar, the provincial capital, is a gateway to the tribal areas. The Province has a population of 3 crores 55 lacs and an area of 101,741 square kilometers.
4. Balochistan: The Vast Wilderness
Tumblr media
To the southwest, Balochistan sprawls across vast, arid terrains. Balochistan is the Second least populated province before Gilgit Baltistan and the largest province of Pakistan in terms of area. Rich in mineral resources, this province holds immense potential for economic development. The Population of Balochistan is somewhere around 1 crore 23 lacs and The Province occupies an area of 347,190 square kilometers, The Capital City of Balochistan is Quetta. Thus, developed countries like Malaysia, Norway, and Italy are much smaller in size than the Province of Balochistan.
5. Gilgit Baltistan - The Heart of Nature
Tumblr media
Gilgit Baltistan has also been given the status of a Province, however, still there are some constitutional issues yet to be resolved. Gilgit Baltistan is the smallest and least populated Province of Pakistan. Gilgit Baltistan has a far lower population than other provinces in Pakistan. he land that Gilgit Baltistan occupies is 72,496 square kilometers and the population of the province is only around 14 lacs 49 thousand, therefore it is the smallest and least populated province of Pakistan. The capital city of the province is Gilgit.
Dispute of Autonomous State of Azad Jammu & Kashmir
Tumblr media
Nominally Azad Jammu and Kashmir ( AJK ) is a self-governing state, however, Pakistan has imposed control over the territory without officially merging it into Pakistan since the 1949 ceasefire between Indian and Pakistani forces. Control of the Kashmir area has been a cause of dispute between Pakistan, China, and India, who all control some parts of the territory. India occupies an area of 101,338 kilometers, Pakistan controls 85,886 kilometers and China controls an area of 37,555 kilometers of the territory of the Kashmir region.
Conclusion: How Many Provinces of Pakistan
In concluding our exploration of Pakistan's provinces, it is evident that each region contributes uniquely to the nation's identity. The five provinces, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan, form the foundation of Pakistan's administrative structure.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Are there any autonomous territories in Pakistan? Yes, in addition to the provinces, Pakistan has one autonomous territories: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 2. Can the number of provinces in Pakistan change? In theory, yes. Changes in administrative divisions are possible, subject to constitutional amendments. However, any such alteration would require careful consideration and legal processes. 3. What is the significance of administrative divisions in Pakistan? HOW NEHRU & NOT JINNAH FORCED PARTITION UPON INDIA ! ..................................................................... THE MOST CAREFULLY MEDIA-HIDDEN 'GROUPING PLAN', THAT EXPOSES CONGRESS'S BIGGEST OF ALL SINS! ...................................................................... NEHRU'S FEAR, OF THE RETURN OF BOSE, & TAKING OVER HIS PM'SHIP, THAT COMES THROUGH AS THE ONLY LOGICAL REASON, FOR HIS REJECTING THE OFFER OF A 'UNITED INDIA' ON A PLATTER, THE OFFER WON BY THE AZAD HIND FAUJ & IT'S ROYAL NAVAL MUTINY OF FEB 1946, A FEELING THAT SUBSEQUENTLY GAVE RISE TO INDIA AS A DOMINION & VASSAL STATE OF GREAT BRITAIN, PERHAPS FOR THE NEXT 20 YRS, TILL MID 1960'S! ......................................................................... THE USE OF RELIGION, ISLAM IN THIS CASE, AS MERE TOOL, BY ATHEIST NEHRU, TO STRATEGICALLY CUT MAJORITY HINDU VOTES, TO BEAT THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM.
The British Govt, in the face of inevitable defeat at hands of the mutinying indigenous Indian defense forces (Indian origin air force & navy men now motivated to their teeth, led by the spirit of Subhash Chandra Bose, & his successful exploits with the Azad Hind Fauj. 'If he can, from so far away, why can't we, here!'), decided to send a Cabinet mission to Indian in Feb 1946, to discuss the Constitutional modalities needed to initiate India's acceptance into the international fold as an independent nation.
This plan among other things, had a provision for establishment of '3 Groups of States within the Federal Republic of India', this grouping prima facie done on the basis of religion, with Group A formed by Hindu-majority UP, CP, Bombay, Bihar, Orissa and Madras; Group B with most of today's Pakistan, namely, Sind, Punjab, Northwest Frontier and Baluchistan; & Group C of Bengal & Assam.
THIS SET-UP TOO WAS ONLY A PROVISIONAL ONE, WITH SCOPE FOR ANY STATE TO CHANGE GROUPS AFTER THE 1ST GENERAL ELECTION, OR FOR A GROUP TO RECONSIDER THIS GROUPING STRUCTURE & THE CONSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK WEAVED AROUND IT ITSELF, AFTER 10 YRS!
- BASICALLY A 2-3 YRS STRUCTURE OF 3 SUPER STATES EMBEDDED WITHIN A FEDERAL UNION OF INDIA (similar to today's 3 List Jurisdictional framework for Legislature & Executive).
JINNAH INSTANTLY AGREED. BUT NEHRU & CONGRESS, STATING HOW 'GROUPING ALONG RELIGIOUS LINES WAS AGAINST THEIR PRINCIPLES', MOREOVER COMING TO THE POINT TO STATE HOW ASSAM & NWFP RULED BY THEM AT THAT POINT, WOULDN'T WANT TO STAY IN A GROUP (EVEN FOR THOSE INITIAL YRS BEFORE 1ST GENERAL ELECTION) WHERE LIKELY TO LOSE MAJORITY DECISION-MAKING POWER.
THEY KNEW THAT THIS TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT COULD POLITICALLY HAVE BEEN MANAGED & INFACT EVEN ABOLISHED & RESTRUCTURED ENTIRELY WITHIN A DECADE, & THIS TIME W/O THE PERMANENTLY INTERFERING MENACE OF THE BRITS!
YET, IN ONE OF THE MOST MYOPIC & NATIONALLY DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS IN THE HISTORY OF MODERN INDIA, DECIDED TO GIVE UP PAKISTAN & (TODAY'S) BANGLADESH ENTIRELY, ALL ALONG RELIGIOUS LINES BTW, RATHER THAN ALLOWING THEM 2-3 YRS POLITICAL DOMINANCE OF SORTS WITHIN A SUPER-STATE, THAT WAS DESIGNED TO BE OVERLORDED BY CONGRESS DESPITE IT ALL, BTW!
IN A FURTHERMORE HYPOCRITICAL MOVE, THE SAME NEHRU THEN GOES ON TO TAKE EXTREME PAINS IN FORMULATING AN EVEN GREATER SUPER-STATE STRUCTURE FOR THE PROVINCE OF JAMMU & KASHMIR, WHERE CONGRESS HAD NO SHORT-TERM ELECTORAL PROSPECTS AT THAT POINT!
THE BOOK 'PILGRIMAGE TO FREEDOM' BY K.M. MUNSHI, A KEY FIGURE IN THE NEHRU ADMINISTRATION, ALSO REVEALS, HOW NEHRU SEEMED TO FAVOR THE GIVING OF SAME HEAVILY AUTONOMOUS SUPER-STATE STATUS TO HYDERABAD WITH 800 YR MUSLIM RULE YET WITH A 88 % HINDU POPULATION, YET PREVENTED BY SARDAR PATEL IN HIS TRACKS, & WITHOUT ANY EXCUSES THIS TIME, UNLIKE KASHMIR, TO FALL BACK ON.

A FOOLISHLY CUNNING ONSET OF MYOPIA, PUT MILDLY, THAT KILLED ~1 MILLION PEOPLE & DISPLACED ~ 15 MILLION, IN THE ENSUING PARTITION OF INDIA!

KEY ANALYSIS- AND REASONS FOR THIS STRANGEST BEHAVIOR OF NEHRU, BY MANY HISTORIANS, INCL HERE, IS ATTRIBUTED TO ONE KEY FACTOR FOR ALL 4 OCCASIONS-
1. NEHRU REFUSED THE GROUPING PLAN AS WAS WARY OF THE RETURN OF SUBHASH BOSE TO THE SCENE, WHO HE KNEW TO BE ALIVE, & BEING CHIEF ARCHITECT OF THE ROYAL NAVAL MUTINY THAT RESULTED IN BRITISHERS ACT OF SURRENDER IN FORM OF GROUPING PLAN, & ENJOYING VERY HEAVY POPULARITY AMONG BOTH HINDUS & MUSLIMS, WOULD'VE CERTAINLY BECOME INDIA'S 1ST PM!
2. BUT WHEN ENSURED OF FREE TENURE, UNDER DOMINIONSHIP OF BRITAIN ALL LIFE, WITH BRITAIN'S MI5 LOOKING AFTER BOSE, WAS FREE,AS ATHEIST,TO USE RELIGION/ISLAM AS TOOL, TO CUT STRATEGIC HINDU VOTES,& WIN ELECTORALLY, HENCE DESIRE TO PIGEONHOLE HINDUS WHERE'D CHANCE TO GROW.
3. AZAD KASHMIR (& IT'S BYPRODUCT PAKISTAN) WAS CREATED FOR MUCH LARGER REASONS OF WORLD ORDER POWER-PLAY, & AS BRITISH-US/UN BASE AGAINST A NUCLEAR-RISING RUSSIA THEN.(BLOGS AHEAD)
4. ALSO AS BY-PRODUCT OF ABOVE MUSLIM-HINDU PARTITION NARRATIVE, BENGAL WITH 53% M & 42% H,AS LIST C STATE,WOULD'VE ENTIRELY GONE TO EAST PAK,IF NOT FOR BENGALI HINDU HOMELAND MOVEMENT(NOT ONCE SUPPORTED BY NEHRU OR GANDHI,THEN OR LATER),TO SALVAGE PART WITH 75% H (INCL ASSAM WITH ~74% H)!

A DEEPER DOCUMENTATION OF NEHRU’S ATHEISM-
A deeper understanding, for Nehru's seeming callousness & near frivolity in letting go of the religiously minded westernmost part of India across the Himalayas, namely today's Pakistan (and today's Bangladesh to the east), can be gained by analyzing his general & extreme mindset against any & all forms of organized religion in itself!
This insight gained, not just from his own 1936 book "Towards Freedom", in which he vents to his heart's content against "the spectacle of organized religion in India & elsewhere, that has filled him with horror, that he has frequently condemned & wished to make a clean sweep of, almost always seeming to stand for blind belief, & reaction, dogma & bigotry, superstition, exploitation, & the preservation of vested interests". Similar famous egs like his US interview, wherein again cries aloud about the same 'rigid dogmas' that may help in shifting responsibility & finding temporary comfort, but when attached to institutions, that may be reducing the spirituality. A classic atheists' critique of structured spirituality ie religion, namely, assuming the exception to be the rule, & propagating structured spirituality as necessarily alien to the fabric of a social set-up.
& Not just against Muslim religion, but even neo-Hindu religions like Buddhism, openly derided & belittled, eg in letter to his Foreign Sec in March 1956, "the traditional life in Tibet is completely feudal under a garb of religion, & it's certain this way cannot continue now that's it face to face with the modern world. There is bound to be land reform, & if the monasteries that own vast estates resist, they will fail, & if Buddhism is to survive, it will have to give up these eccretions, which have nothing to do with religion, & which are opposed to the modern conditions." Similarly in official communiques eg his speech to Parliament of May 8, 1959, months after Chinese had taken over Tibet with Dalai Lama given refuge in India, "Where a society (the Tibetans) has continued to exist for 100s & 100s of yrs, it may have outlasted it's utility, & any kind of a NECESSARY uprooting of that, must be painful, whether a good society or a bad society".
If ever needed more insight into the - "internally orchestrated 'necessary uprooting of the Indian religious society', painful beyond imagination as it was, good or bad, Hindu or Muslim, immaterial".
DECONSTRUCTING THE MIND, UNDERSTOOD IN MODERN LINGO AS 'SECULARISM' IE IDEA OF, NOT CO-EXISTENCE OF, BUT ABSENCE OF RELIGIONS....WHICH GAVE WAY TO, 'NEHRU'S PARTITION OF INDIA'.
Also per below charts..of how a negligible minority of atheists, albeit given absolute power over destiny, could possibly 've managed to break the greatest civilization on Earth, ever.

& Further elucidation on how non-anchored ideologies cross all limits of national propriety exemplified by...India subsequently thinking it fit to work under British Air Force Chiefs of India for 7 yrs (till 1954), & British Navy Chiefs of India for 11 yrs (till 1958), after (so called) independence.
