notes on “the runaway”

the more i see people discuss how strangely sokka’s character is portrayed in “the runaway” the more i cannot help but feel that all my ad hoc rationalizations and justifications as to why he would contradict himself so greatly might actually be meaningless. why would he allow the gaang to endanger themselves for foolish reasons when he is the overly paranoid voice of caution in literally every other episode? why would he be so easily swayed by toph’s manipulative promise of buying him a fancy atlas when he’s literally holding her wanted poster? and most crucially, why would he say that he sees katara as his mother when no other episode in the show indicates that this is remotely the case?

this episode is great for katara and toph, whose hangups are compellingly explored here. i won’t get into the common misconceptions about katara being “motherly” or why they’re even at loggerheads to begin with, as i’ve discussed this at length in the past, but it’s actually undeniable that the assumption that katara is the de facto “mom friend” stems primarily from this episode, where toph all but outright accuses her of fancying herself their collective mother. however, katara becoming “the mother” of the group is very much a post-toph shift in her character, and you see her femininity being accentuated in contrast with toph’s deliberate lack of femininity also being linked to this sort of maternal role that she occasionally adopts, especially around toph. but i don’t actually think the issue is one of katara being a smothering, maternal figure towards toph, but rather a miscommunication regarding power, gender, class, and community vs independence. when katara and toph fight, it is for far more complex and nuanced reasons than the notion that katara is simply too overbearing. if anything, it’s the way in which she is overbearing that irks toph, just as toph’s rudeness is not the central issue, but rather that toph’s values (those of total independence and freedom) are misinterpreted as malice by katara (who values community and collaboration), and vice versa.

something very crucial to understand about this episode is that katara is not actually mad that toph endangered their group by pulling fun scams. katara has endangered their group countless times in the past to satisfy her own impulsive desires (and yes, she wants justice, but toph similarly rationalizes her scams through the lens of achieving moral vindication). katara would be all over toph’s scammery, would come up with scams of her own, would be having more fun than anyone—had she been included from the start. which is exactly the point. it is her exclusion that foments her critique, not the subject of their act itself (and the reason that you could not replace katara with sokka in this scenario is simply because toph would never exclude sokka in the first place). but katara would never admit that she is hurt by toph’s exclusion aloud, because katara is an extremely proud person. and a prideful, wounded fourteen year old is not going to thoughtfully use “i statements” as if in a group therapy session with the equally prideful twelve year old who deliberately excluded her; no, she is going to lash out. (lest we forget that in their first real episode establishing their group dynamic, katara literally mocks toph’s blindness. hardly an okay thing to do, in my opinion!) their conflict stems from their differences, but also from their similarities. they are both proud, angry, powerful, stubborn, and must assert their dominance at all times. it’s clear they both want to be friends with each other, and at times they are, but it is really only in this episode where they are able to cross a threshold that allows them to be truly honest about more meaningful insecurities than simply their looks (although i do of course find their exchange in “tales” beautiful as well). and you know who is instrumental (albeit reluctant to interfere) in facilitating that growth? sokka.

i’ve gone more in depth in the past analyzing why sokka’s speech in this episode regarding his mother and katara isn’t exactly as it sounds. i personally interpret his admission, that katara has always been there for him and that her face is all he sees when he tries to picture his mother, as an illustration of his codependent attachment to her, as she is the very locus of his identity. this interpretation is compounded by the fact that when kya’s face is finally revealed later in the season, she does bear an uncanny resemblance to sokka, which to me signifies the way in which sokka sublimates his own face for katara’s—which is also deeply unhealthy, but in a different way than an older brother parentifying his younger sister would be.

the fact is that there is simply no indication throughout the entire show (including this episode) that sokka views or treats katara as a parent. there are of course moments wherein she supports him emotionally or materially, but most of the time she is in fact teasing, tormenting, undermining, yelling at, or otherwise making life harder for him, at which point he is far more likely to act as her guardian figure and admonish her while simultaneously helping her get out of whatever mess she’s caused. and considering that sokka’s defining moment is when hakoda stakes his identity to protecting his (ontologically special) sister (which, as we know, as the bearer of kya’s face, in fact means dying for her), this dynamic makes far more sense than the other way around. i know that people commonly portray katara as the voice of reason who cleans up sokka’s messes, but besides a couple examples, it’s consistently the other way around. yes, it’s very easy to assume that sokka’s speech indicates that he sees katara as his replacement mother, but we cannot take this speech at face value if we are also to take the rest of the text into account, which we must.

but then there’s also the other glaring question that must be taken into account: why would sokka even allow all this? considering the first thing toph bartered was the sword he has painstakingly crafted just an episode prior, why didn’t sokka just pull the plug then and there? it really doesn’t make sense that sokka wouldn’t take katara’s side just for practical, logistical reasons. even if she doesn’t really care about the own point she’s making (as demonstrated by the fact that the scam she devises literally lands her in jail), sokka would see the logic in it. but... he does. he is the one to first discover the wanted poster, and he immediately points out to toph that their scams are drawing undue attention to her, and that they should put an end to it now that's it's putting them at risk. and yet, toph successfully bribes him, and so he continues to participate. why? what about the prospect of having money is so appealing to sokka that he’s willing to risk his precious rationality and caution for the potential of acquiring more of it? well, it’s actually quite simple.

toph is scamming for the thrill of the game. she loves proving the kind of men who undermined and demeaned her all her life wrong. she loves humiliating the people of the world who had once humiliated her. she’s not someone who values earthly possessions or really even understands that money is a finite resource. to her, these scams are a matter of ego. aang is also scamming for the thrill of the game. he loves a prank, a bit of mischief, getting into some tomfoolery. he loves spending time pulling hijinks with his friends. it’s funny, it’s fun, and it’s lucrative on top of that. but it’s clear that he views it as a game. now, sokka similarly enjoys pulling these scams. he adores toph and clearly finds it nearly as satisfying as she does to watch her destroy the egos of men thrice her size. but even more potent than his adoration for toph, is his appreciation for money.

when katara put them all in danger countless times in the past, it may have been to enact righteous justice, but it was never materially beneficial to sokka. sokka is a very practical person, and growing up in a state of colonial abjection taking on the role of provider for a couple dozen people mostly comprised of elderly women and small children makes you appreciate the value of goods and resources in a way that an aristocrat and a monk do not. you may be asking, "are you really arguing that sokka would undermine his own values and endanger himself and his friends so readily for the prospect of financial security?" to which i would argue that you underestimate how truly cynical sokka is. of course he loves money and food he doesn’t have to catch or forage – see: his appreciation for the immediate luxury of ba sing se that everyone else finds so stifling. he is not spiritual; he is attached to earthly possessions and the immediate physical needs of those around him. so of course he loves a material object. in his own words: “i do believe in the power of stuff.” because even when sokka is supposedly being uncharacteristically foolish or naive, he is in fact nonetheless promoting the cynic’s agenda every step of the way.

“the runaway” is a good episode, perhaps even a great one. however, it has also lent to some of the fundamental misinterpretations i see of katara, sokka, and toph that are constantly thrown around (including the occasional citing of this episode to justify that aang apparently “sees katara as his mother”). so in some ways, i do resent this episode for begetting those strange and incorrect takes, even if i think that in a vacuum, it is well-executed. it is an episode that complicates our characters, adds nuances and shades of grey to their pre-established characterizations, but does not actually rewrite them. sure, if this was the only episode of the show i had ever seen, i too might assume that katara was the maternal and responsible figure of the group, toph was a careless and rude little bitch, and aang and sokka were idiots who relied solely on katara’s infinite well of long-suffering guidance. but even within this episode, that is clearly not established to be the case, and if that notion is not sufficiently undermined by the episode’s conclusion, it is quite clearly by the episodes bracketing it, which provide crucial context through which to inform our understandings of the choices made in this episode, and why they are indeed interesting, but nonetheless do not reflect the characterizations established in the series as a whole.

Have you thought about doing "relationship sceanarios" for the hazbin characters? I've seen boyfriend/girlfriend sceanarios for fandoms on wattpad and quotev before, but that could be something that'd give you lots of different things to write 🙃

Content: Fluff, slight angst if you squint in Hanako and Mitsuba's part, no gender mention for reader aside from the word 'prince' and 'princess' being used. Summary: Reading their s/o a bedtime story

Characters: Nene, Hanako, Mitsuba, Kou

A story about a girl who gets saved by her prince, not in an ideal way like she wanted it to be, but nonetheless, still fell for them anyways. ⎯ Once upon a time I had my eyes set out for a fairytale of my own, wanting to feel like a hopeless romantic with the person of my dreams. But to think that the person I've been dreaming of was actually beside me this whole time... Perhaps instead of me, it was them that was hopeless in the end.

It was during when you stayed over at her house and weren't able to sleep, that she suggested she'd tell you some of the latest stories she's been reading about. Some that you've already heard of (either from her already mentioning it before or seeing it in the media) while others not so much.

When NENE talks about her stories she's very enthusiastic about it. Happy to even have someone listening to her rant on and on about something she's been dying to talk about for awhile, but it's even more special when it's her S/O ⎯ especially if they were the ones to ask her first before she even got the chance to herself.

Her stories lean more towards romance for obvious reasons. Loving the tropes to the story is one thing, but another would be because of how she likes to imagine herself in those sort of scenarios. Embarrassed to even admit it out loud, though it's already clear why she likes them so much.

And although at first she was telling the stories to you to get you to fall asleep, it sometimes ends with you staying up a little later due to her getting a tad bit carried away.

Oh but if you do end up falling asleep right before her? You won't ever see or hear about it, unless you were pretending to be asleep, but Nene is definitely the type to give you a shy goodnights kiss. Feeling brave only because you were asleep, but if not, she'd totally cover her face as she fumes at how embarrassing it is to get caught in her sly act.

A story about a commoner boy who had a princess that loved him dearly, despite his backstory and everything he deemed as 'unworthy' of their love, nothing ⎯ not even his words, could sway their view of him. ⎯ Time and time again you run and hide from me. Behind that wall of doubt and insecurities there's something that you clearly don't see in yourself that I adore so much. When will you finally come to terms and see things my way? Love yourself as much as I love you.

It's weird how you decided to nap in the bathroom. Especially his bathroom where he's poking you constantly until you tell him off.

When HANAKO is reading you a story, he has you sleeping and leaning against his shoulder. His hand occasionally shifting your head back in place when he notices you nodding off or about to fall, or maybe even just doing it to use it as an excuse to pat your head ⎯ who knows? Clearly not you.

But the types of stories Hanako tends to read to you depends entirely on his mood. Whenever he's feeling like a jokester, he'd tell you horror stories just to see your scared reaction as you cling onto him ⎯ or when he's feeling a little solemn, he'd tell the sort of fairytale that ends with bad endings to them.

Differing between those two genres the most. But on the more rarer occasions, does he switch it up to something else.

Something odd, something you wouldn't even expect from him. Something ... that perhaps convey how he really feels but is too afraid to admit it out loud? It honestly depends up to you to actually catch onto it. If not? Then you probably won't ever hear that story again from him.

A story where a ghost finds a human and wishes to stand by their side ⎯ A story where death will not part them, for they belong together. ⎯ I keep thinking that I could be good enough for you - that you could love me as more than 'friends', maybe I am a bit selfish for thinking this. Not that I could ever say it to your face.

Someone decided to be nice today and bless you with a sleepover!! At your own house of course.

MITSUBA didn't plan on reading to you but you told him a few stories of your own. He wasn't sure why he did it. Perhaps it was the smile on your face every time you started reading to him, so he returned the favor.

He wasn't sure what to read until he came up with his own idea. A short story about a ghost, since he knew that firsthand. A story with a ghost about falling in love with a human, a story he...

As he told the story, he could see your smile slowly disappear, almost as if you realized he was the ghost in the story.

"The ghost never told them how he felt."

And that was the last thing he said before being engulfed in your arms. He knew this feeling - he's felt it before. That warm feeling.

The feeling of love.

The feeling of an old memory.

A story where the knight doesn't get the girl ⎯ oh...I guess this is a different ending. A story where the knight gets the prince, and they live a happy life. ⎯ I didn't change the ending! This is how it was meant to be! I...I suppose if you prefer for the knight to not fall for the prince then...Huh? You liked it?!

KOU brought a book of short stories over to your house. He was super excited to be able to stay the night.

Unfortunately for him, you had the same book and it just so happened to be your favorite!

Kou told the story as it was written for a bit.

Until he got to the end.

The story was meant to end with the prince marrying a princess but Kou couldn't bring himself to say it. Perhaps it was because he was never the prince. He was always second.

But it seemed that you didn't mind. It does get a bit boring reading the same story over and over again, and you did like listening to Kou talk.

"I'm...really happy you liked it." He says, almost struggling to get the words out as you blush and smile.

Maybe this really was his story, and that's why he rewrote the ending. Well, you can't say it's impossible for that ending to happen.

Headcanons for Akashi getting scared?

I am back to indulge in my chronic Akashi brainrot. Please forgive me for the dissertation I'm about to drop on your timeline.

Now, first of all, we must establish that canonically (or at the very least, to my knowledge) Akashi has no phobias. BUT ☝🏿 I think that even with zero phobias, you can still get startled by things. So I'll just be talking about that.

Similar to my sleeping headcanons where I said it's probably very difficult to catch Akashi sleeping, it's probably equally, if not more, as difficult to startle him.

Since he's a very perceptive person and is always observing others whether they're aware of it or not, I would think it's pretty hard to startle someone who's always watching you. Because of this, there are only two scenarios in which I would think he'd ever be startled by something/somebody.

1: if he's really, really, REALLY focused on something. This is based on an NG-shuu from season 1 of the anime, where Akashi is playing shogi by himself and Midorima is trying to talk to him, but he's so focused on his game that he's not listening to half the things that Midorima says to him. NG-shuus are not canon events, I know, but it does give you a glimpse into how certain characters might act if a scenario played out differently. That's why Akashi pegs me as the type to focus on something so hard that he stops caring about his surroundings and focuses solely on whatever is in front of him, therefore making it easier to startle him in that state.

2: if he's let his guard down. This may sound similar to the first scenario but let me elaborate. If I were to make an analogy, scenario 1 is like sneaking up on a predator when the predator is sneaking up on something else; scenario 2 is like sneaking up on a predator while they're relaxing and not on high alert. Startling Akashi in scenario 2 would be possible simply because he feels safe enough to not be as observant of his surroundings. But since he almost always has his guard up, to startle him in this way would be a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity.

I've discussed the scenarios in which it would be possible to startle Akashi, but let's address the elephant in the room: what would actually startle this boy?

Loud noises would be one of them, I think. If he's immersed in something or is relaxed enough and not expecting it, I think a loud noise would definitely startle him and raise his heckles. Think back to Kuroko's very first game during middle school when Akashi was caught off guard by the sound of Kuroko tripping over himself and falling. That's a milder example since Kuroko falling probably wasn't even that loud, but I would like to think that the louder the sound, the more startled he would be.

The second thing would be people touching him suddenly. Again, he's seen as a very high and mighty intimidating person. One does not simply touch Akashi Seijuro. Most physical contact he has with others is in the form of high-fives and fist-bumps. The other type of contact is the occasional hand on the shoulder from the Uncrowned Kings in his team, and even then it's mostly from Mibuchi. The times he's most surprised (at least while he's his original self) is when someone touches him when his guard is down and he doesn't have time to react.

The most prominent example of this is in season 3 volume 5 of the drama CDs when Nijimura invites him along to go get a meat bun from the convenience store. When he finds out that Akashi has never gone out to buy food on the way home, he decides to initiate Akashi into those types of things. It's only an audio CD so I can't see what's happening, but it sounded like Nijimura grabbed him--maybe by the arm, or maybe he swung an arm around Akashi's shoulder--and just pulled him along to the door. The moment Nijimura grabs him, Akashi sounds audibly surprised. His voice even gets higher in pitch when he tries to (weakly) protest that he wasn't even that hungry anyway. This probably comes from the fact that he doesn't engage in a lot of physical contact with his friends, so when something past a high-five or a hand on the shoulder occurs he's like ⁉️ for a quick sec, especially if he's being manhandled like I assumed Nijimura to be doing in the drama CD.

And, let's say that through some miracle, Akashi is actually startled by something/someone. What would he look like when he's startled? Well, for reference, what did he look like when Kuroko tripped and fell during a game?

As you can see, this boy looks like a literal cat when he's surprised or startled. He just has this very owlish expression with the way his eyes widen and his mouth is slightly open, which makes him look so adorable.

Going off of this, I would for sure think that he looks pretty similar to this when he gets startled. But when he startles, I don't think he would make any noise. Akashi and Aomine would probably be on opposite sides of the spectrum, in that regard. Akashi would probably be someone who would jolt a bit or even flinch if you've REALLY caught him at a bad time, but scream? Never. Over his dead body, in fact.

And the last part of this: if he startles around other people, how would they react to seeing his startled face?

I would think the first few times it happens, none of his friends (both in Teiko and Rakuzan) wants to mention it because they don't want to face Akashi's wrath in case he doesn't want the others to notice. But over time, especially post-Winter Cup, Akashi is more open and also more easygoing, so his friends feel more comfortable acknowledging it, whether it's apologizing for startling him or even lightly teasing him about it.

And, like I said, he canonically has no phobias, but that doesn't mean his friends haven't tried to see if he did. They prodded him about multiple things like ghosts (doesn't believe in them), roller coaster rides (he doesn't mind them but he doesn't go out of his way to ride them), bugs (he's not afraid of them but he does find them to be distinctly gross-looking), and even the dark (not being able to see isn't scary to him, just massively inconvenient), but he really doesn't have anything, in particular, that he's afraid of.

So to see him startled by anything is, once again, pretty rare. Not many situations in which you can catch this boy lacking. But when he is startled, it's almost refreshing to see. It makes him actually look his age since he's always so serious and pensive. His friends find it interesting to see more of Akashi's various expressions all across the emotional spectrum and secretly hope he shows more of himself as time passes.

Here's a bit of a weird thought here. It's a bit out of scope for your AU, but with your particular interpretation of the characters I wonder. With Grimm and Radiance, if their places were switched. Perhaps if the "Desires to live up to their parent's legacy" part was swapped between the two, while otherwise mostly staying similar personality wise. How would things change for the two of them? Where they'd end up in the end?

oooh that's such an interesting idea. i've never considered that before, but i love me a good role swap scenario like this. let me think

grimm's personality is derived in big part from his rebellious tendencies. he had no interest in his father's legacy, or even ruling over the mortals the way a god is expected to, so he gravitated towards the mortals as an escape. at the same time, he does have the tendency to abuse his powers for his own amusement, for instance, whenever someone really gets under his skin, he often invades them in their sleep to manifest a nightmare, purely out of spite. there's also his blood sucking habits, he has no issue with occasional killing for that purpose

of course, in the actual au's timeline, that's as far as he'll go. but if he was obsessed with living up to his father's name and ruling over the mortals? i think this particular flaw of his would take a much more sinister turn. why act as the mysterious god to be worshipped when he can force them to do it? he most certainly has the means to do that. compared to his sister, who simply reacted out of fear and anger, and in doing so created the infection, i think he would be much more methodical in his approach. he most certainly wouldn't allow someone like pk to steal his worshippers, and since, unlike the radiance, he still has a physical form (he still has the promiscuous tendencies, so it makes sense that he'd need a physical body for that), he would simply take care of the problem with his own hands and get rid of the competition

so in short, he would be much more of a villainous figure than he currently is, i imagine. living in the shade of his sister, and having a fondness for the mortals that resulted from his lack of interest in the dream realm matters, had a great impact on his personality and how much he allows his ego to control his actions. without that, he would be a much different person than he is now, and i imagine it would influence the fate of hallownest and everyone in it just as much

as for the radiance, i don't personally see her as a villain. she had an unhealthy obsession, and that obsession resulted in her reacting way more emotionally than she normally would. i think it would be quite interesting if, similarly to grimm, she found a fondness for the mortals that extends past her desire for them to worship her. i imagine that need is a byproduct of her lack of confidence, so it would be quite interesting for her to deal with it in a more healthy (and certainly less destructive) way. in general i have a feeling her journey would mirror that of grimm's in the regular timeline, though perhaps with a much less chaotic social and love life than her brother

that is, if grimm even allowed her to do that. he can already be quite cruel as it is, so in this alternate timeline, i could absolutely see him getting rid of her if he saw her as a rival, whether it would be defeating her in battle and stripping her of all her powers, or simply killing her

though there are definitely other ways for this kind of timeline to go, perhaps it would have a much more optimistic outcome. after all, grimm is much better at controlling his emotions than the radiance is, so there's always a chance they could reach a common ground and rule together. but i quite enjoy the idea of grimm going down a villainous path. i definitely wouldn't call him a good guy in the regular timeline, i mean, he kills people for blood, and can be very cruel if he's driven to it. and i think the idea that he would've taken a much darker turn if you changed that single aspect of his personality is very fascinating

Paradox Live The Animation Episode 11 Review - Illusions

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON??? HOLY HECK???? My mind is blown right now. This was an intense episode of Paradox Live. I can’t believe all that happened. Hold on, I need time to process everything.

Okay, so I’ve been theorizing who Shura and the Ramen Guy where since they look like the same person. I had theorized Shura, the one on stage was an illusion and Mr. Ramen dude was the real deal and I got it right. It turns out that Yasha is also an illusion; Buraikan, in general, look how they did ten years ago. I do wonder what their purpose is. Having Buraikan show up as how they did ten years ago was definitely a set up for the four current groups to compete with each other. What is their goal? To destroy everyone? To harvest their phantometals and create illusions out of them? Is the villain’s plan to make illusions out of everyone equivalent of cloning?

Mr. Ramen Guy is alone and the real Yasha is nowhere to be seen. I’m assuming he’s trying to instill revenge onto Alter Trigger by messing with the Paradox Live finale? Judging from the opening narration intro, the real Yasha died ten years ago due to phantometal overusage—and it happened on stage too. Is the real Shura going to be the surprise hero of this bad scenario right now?

Regarding cozmez, I did theorize a lot of things about Nayuta back in episode 7. One of them was speculating Nayuta being a phantometal illusion Kanata created after witnessing and knowing he had died. Guess what happened in this episode? That theory came true. Damn, so Kanata basically rapped with an imaginary version of his brother all this time. No wonder he seemed so robotic and out of it at times. It also makes sense why the current Nayuta didn’t recognize Shiki because he was an illusion; Kanata didn’t know about Shiki, so the Nayuta that was wandering about was formed from what he believed to be his brother.

Poor Kanata. Poor, poor Kanata. He needs a hug, badly. His trap reaction is remembering his brother’s death which is so traumatic that it’s causing him to go berserk with the corrosion. Stop being mean to Kanata! The boy already went through a lot; stop adding more trauma on to his resume. It hurts when your favorite character is going through trauma. Though, I do feel as if Buraikan was targeting Kanata specifically, or was it just coincidence since he won the extra stage by default?

What is up with Ryu, though? He looks possessed, muttering about how Buraikan and Nayuta were ghosts and such. He does have this weird split personality that occurs occasionally. Maybe that is the reason why he’s acting weird. Given he’s the only one who cannot experience trap reactions, I do wonder if he will play a factor into solving this situation—if he’s willing to, that is.

The BAE scenes were nice. Seeing Hajun cheering up Allen was so sweet. I really liked Hajun’s reaction too; he was all like “Your music kills people? Yeah, it’s true. It happened to me once.” His bluntness is charming in a way. I have a huge soft spot for scenes where someone shields someone from the rain with an umbrella. The scene where Allen was singing in English felt super romantic too. Oh, speaking of which, I was always amazed with Allen’s English pronunciation and I recently learned that his voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara had lived in Singapore in the past, hence his surprisingly good English skills; here’s a video I found on Twitter that has him speaking English. Since Allen wanted Hajun to open up before, Hajun was returning the favor and he did it two times better. Given that BAE was at Razzle Dazzle and not Paradox Live, I do feel as if they will be the key to saving the day. I hope they team up with Mr. Ramen Guy.

Since next episode is the finale, what will happen? I expect the biggest, super special awesome rap showdown between the fake Buraikan and BAE. This is a rapping show, after all; rapping is always the solution here. I’m so nervous about what’s going to happen to Kanata. Let him be happy, please. What are your thoughts on this episode?

any thoughts abt self aware akatsuki? they seem to be very devoted to their goals and the ones they cherish, while also being especially dangerous at times so im curious as to how you can basically approach the super yandere side of them n all, they seem like some real awesome guys ngl.

Starting this off by saying that I haven´t read too many stories featuring Akatsuki so some of my ramblings may be a bit out of character! I hope you still enjoy this though!

Self-aware Yandere! Akatsuki

I think I mentioned it before in an ask that talked about sticking to Kuro and Souma before but you´d definitely be kept safe from any physical harm if you stuck around Akatsuki. Souma has his sword that he wouldn´t hesitate to use on anyone that threatened you, Kuro who is trained in martial arts and had a delinquent phase, and even Keito was the former captain of the archery club.

They´re all very protective of you and while Keito is more-so the type that wards off the other characters with his words and frequent scoldings, he would be willing to use his bow to eliminate a target if he felt like it was the only option.

Keito is usually pretty strict, even with his fellow members in Akatsuki, so it´s even more noticeable when he gets soft around you. It´s like he´s a completely different person and even though he would occasionally scold you when you got into trouble or were hanging around other idols too much, there would be no bite in his words.

He tries to keep his infatuation hidden from you so he mostly acts on his own urges by instead drawing or writing out the scenarios that he wishes he could enact with you in real life. His stories just happen to be romances where the two main characters strongly resemble both of you. There he can let his thoughts run wild and he can imagine holding you close or kissing you as much as he likes. He wouldn´t admit to doing this, especially not to you, but soon Keito gets commissioned by other idols to draw the same kind of scenarios for them.

He doesn´t like doing it, no doubt about it

Kuro is very caring towards you and doesn´t want you to be scared of him because of his outer appearance. He loves sewing new clothes for you and he also loves seeing you wear them because it´s almost like you´re wearing a part of him. He spends so many hours sewing these outfits too, he´s not sparing any efforts. Also, his little sister probably knows of you from how often Kuro talks about you at home and has more than once asked if you two were dating or when you would finally get married.

Kuro is a very protective yandere, wanting you to be safe at all times, which is why he would stick around you a lot. It´s the best way to make sure nothing happens to you, right? Honestly just having someone strong looking like Kuro standing next to you is probably enough to keep most strangers from ever approaching you. He´s usually not fond of how different his appearance is from his true character, but he feels like in this case it´s very beneficial. For the most part, he doesn´t need to lift a finger to keep you safe.

Of course, that doesn´t work with the other idols that know what Kuro really is like, they´re still going to want to talk to you. So it´s only in these moments where Kuro would actively shield you from “harm” by standing right between the both of you and telling the other person to leave. He doesn´t really want to get violent in front of you, so he holds himself back if he can help it. He´s more likely to “visit” the person later and throw a few punches there where you can´t see what he´s doing.

Souma is probably the one most likely and prepared to commit violence in your honor. He comes from a proud samurai family and so he holds ideas like honor in very high regard. He always carries around a sword and he´s determined to use it to protect the people that he thinks are worth protecting. Naturally, you are one of these people. He looks up to you for all you have done for Akatsuki and him specifically while you were still playing the game and possessing Anzu. You always knew exactly what to say and do to make sure things move along well and Souma greatly admires you for that. It´s no surprise that he puts you on a bit of a pedestal. In his eyes, you can do no wrong and so anyone that opposes you is automatically wrong. His old-fashioned ideals don´t really help him with this black-and-white thinking either.

Souma is also very emotionally driven which only further urges him to protect you from any perceived harm. He´s another one that wants to be around you at all times to make sure that you´re safe. He can´t bear the thought of anything happening to you, the kindest and most gracious person to ever exist. Anyone that disagrees must simply meet the end of his blade.

Different from Keito for example, Souma wouldn´t try to hide the fact that he´s pretty obsessed with you. He´s honest to a fault and thus likes to proclaim how important you are to him and how he would do absolutely anything if you asked him to.

The serious tone in his voice tells you that he isn´t joking around.

The Beginning

I'm going to expect that you understand the basic controls here and that you're playing with the default world settings. Obviously, I'll be giving some mild spoilers here, so if you want to learn the game pretty much how I did by going in blind and learning most of this stuff by trial and error, this may not be the post for you. This will mainly be about basic survival and not about late-game secrets.

Ok start up a game. I usually hit play now [o], because I like the randomness, but since we're doing a beginner introduction I'll use the default scenario.

You have survived the initial wave of panic, and achieved (relative) safety in one of the many government evac centers.

Ok, take stock of your character and make friends with your companion if you can. Having a travelling partner can be quite useful as they can train you in skills you don't have and help you overwhelm enemies. This character is quite strong with firearms and has survival skills, however he's not good on rough terrain.

In addition my threat failed

Survival in cataclysm is like real life:

Water

Food

Warmth and Shelter

Security (from Zs)

Try and get these in this order and then you can start doing the fun stuff.

Starting in an evac center makes gives us water, food, shelter and a bit of security. Since we're planning on going outside we'll need to pickup 2 bottles of water and 4 protein rations. Having at least one flashlight and a jacket is also useful but not necessary.

I would usually pick up a first aid kit here, but I've got a flamethrower so that's not possible. First aid kits act as a backup plan for when you ever get hurt.

Next I survey my surroundings, I pull up the main map then go use any maps provided to maximise my range, in this case the road map to the refugee center.

As you can see there are two towns nearby. Towns are useful because they can provide valuable goods, but I wouldn't suggest going anywhere near one:

Without a weapon

Without a vehicle

During the day

This is because 1 zombie is an annoyance, many are lethal. If you have a weapon you stand a chance of beating any zombies that run after you when you are noticed

If you have a vehicle you create a barrier between you and the zombies. I wouldn't recommend leaving an unarmored vehicle in the town centre because Zs will smash through it to get to you.

Last, zombies can't see well at night. This means running away from zombies is much easier at night. This makes raiding the outskirts of town is useful strategy at night. However, you might want a watch to keep track of time to make sure you get back before sunrise.

Now to go outside:

Typically I'd head to gather supplies if I had obvious objectives but in this case I've got the refugee center nearby. So I'll go towards that an grab some stuff on the way.

Getting supplies:

Bodies - likely to have a few scraps. Can useful to fill out odd stuff and get some cards and clothes.

Underbrush- examine this to find random items can be useful in the early game.

Buildings - occasionally these have a few monsters but most the time they have useful supplies

Shelters- LMOE and evac shelters contain a lot of valuable supplies and can be used as bases

Watch out for monsters! Do not approach them unless you know you can win the fight without getting hurt. If you have a camera use it to catalogue various creatures.

We're here

The refugee center provides a community hub for survivors. It can be useful for trading miscellaneous items you find and getting quests. It also provides a safe place to sleep If you're too far from any other shelter. If you want the Free Merchants faction to get angry at you, you can steal a car from the front lot just make sure it doesn't have a working security system.

Remember to use C to chat. I go over to Smokes the shopkeeper to buy some goods.

Smokes has ammo, tools and clothes. Right now I need additional carrying capacity, some tools and some ammo.

Carry containers are very useful as they allow you to take more supplies with you. Getting a good backpack is pretty essential.

Tools help you with craft and construction allowing you to do things you couldn't before and upgrade your base.

Ammo is very useful if you have a gun, always have little more than you think you'll need. Beware gunshots will attract the attention of Zs!

At the moment I don't have enough stuff to trade but I'll come back later.

I go around ask for missions and open the missions menu (M):

At this stage basic fetch quests are a pretty good way of improving rapport with NPCs. I'd suggest doing them one at a time and if an opportunity come up completing one you hadn't planned for.

I head north. Loot some corpses of a drug deal outside the gates and find a lorry.

I guess this is a good time to break off I'll explain my thoughts on vehicle use.

See, here is where we're at re 'is Nisha Lawful Evil'

Out of these three, Nisha is most definitely closest to the second Type. She's definitely not "Lawful over Evil". I'd say even Jack is closer to that. Jack is the one who has lofty ideas about creating a better world, purging Pandora of bandits and creating is capitalist utopia. When Nisha talks about the Hyperion agenda in Borderlands 2, it is mostly in a slightly amused way. And while she supports it by guarding the Eridium shipments, she's not directly an enforcer for Jack the way Wilhelm is. Mostly she just wants to run Lynchwood - which she also isn't really trying all that hard to turn it into a "peaceful", hyper-controlled place, she even states as much:

"Rumours that Lynchwood might become as civilised as Opportunity are not to be believed. Let Jack have his ivory towers. I came to Pandora for action."

So she's not really trying to build any kind of society - she's trying to create a scenario where she can commit atrocities unbothered (and realised that the best profession to do that is to be a cop lmao). The only aspect that fits here is that she specifically likes to go after bandits. Or, anyone she considers a bandit. But we also know from TPS that she's perfectly fine with a) killing pretty much anyone or anything else and b) being considered a bandit herself. And I think it's important to point out that in the society we encounter in Borderlands, killing and hunting bandits for fun and sport or whatever is perfectly normalised - obviously, self-defence is another big reason - but if you have power, money or are just really good with a gun, you're actively encouraged to go out and murder as many bandits as you like and the more you kill, the bigger the hero you are. And Nisha, much like Jack, is perfectly content to label people bandits the moment they piss her off or inconvenience her if she has a chip on her shoulder.

She's also not really the Type 3. Something that does apply, at least occasionally, is the idea of 'honour' - like the fact that she challenges the Vault Hunters for a duel. But we also see her go back on her word when she feels like it, like in the Pre-Sequel when that one Lost Legion soldier asks for his life to be spared: All the other characters let him go, except Nisha. She first says 'yes', then decides to hunt him down and strangle him when he least expects it. Yes, she creates a set of laws in Lynchwood that allow her to hang anyone she feels like - but somehow I doubt that if someone not breaking any of her laws would stop her from killing them if she felt like it.

Also, she isn't evil until she clocks out, then goes home and acts like a different person. She's always Like This. Yes, she can be friendly and jovial and chill when she feels like it, but a) her cruelty and blood-thirst usually show, she's just funny about it and b) it's not like she's disconnecting from the evil she does or rationalises it. She simply doesn't care. The reason she can be cordial and polite or even close with people despite of all the murders isn't because there is a distinction between those two sides of her - but because there isn't: She's pretty open about who she is. She doesn't normalise it, she doesn't think 'oh, I'm following orders / it is my job to do this' or 'other people are doing it too' - she didn't slip into this line of 'work', she doesn't really have any values or beliefs bigger than herself (sure, she supports Hyperion but she's also announcing the fact that she considers it all a bit silly over the loudspeakers to the entire town of Lynchwood).

The closest thing to apply is "Evil over Lawful" - creating Lynchwood and creating the laws of Lynchwood is mostly a set-up to allow her to do things 'for the Evulz' - luring people to Lynchwood to torment them is basically her mouse-trap for endless fun.

But if we look at -

Chaotic Evil - some of these ironically fit her a lot more.

And ironically even here, I wouldn't put her into "Evil over Chaos". Now, this might be controversial because being 'evil' is a very, very big aspect of Nisha's character. In fact, she arguably might be more evil than Jack (she arguably might be the most evil character in the Borderlands-universe)(even if they're both extremely cruel people, Jack's motives are also ambition, revenge, arrogance, his idea of bringing 'peace', etc. Nisha's sadism is a lot more undiluted. She really, really just wants to hurt people. This, ironically, also makes her kill fewer people than Jack - because Jack is that 'million is a statistic' kind of villain, even if he genuinely enjoys killing. He has a mission. Nisha doesn't. Sitting in a space station and sending soldiers and moonshots to kill her enemies just wouldn't be enough to keep her entertained. We see that in her lines at Wilhelm:

"That's lame. I like my kills more personal." "An unmanned drone? Can't even watch them die that way!" "Boring!"

She doesn't care about Pandora or the Warrior or Hyperion - she cares about hanging around Lynchwood, killing bandits like they're ants and she's got a magnifying glass. And the fact that she's also perfectly fine with Pandora potentially being fried to a crisp if Jack manages to raise the Warrior indicates that she's also fine going somewhere else, if Lynchwood doesn't work out. But...she's also not really a card-carrying villain. She wouldn't ally with someone just because they're evil if that meant that they would ask her to do stuff she doesn't feel like doing - we see that in her interactions with Tassiter. So yeah, for her it seems to be Chaos (freedom) over Evil.

And since she likes to use her freedom to hunt bandits and for her western larping shtick - the whole Sheriff thing seems to be a pretty sweet deal for her interests. Not because she care about the law, but because she cares about fun and impunity.

And that's how you end up being so Chaotic, you're turning Lawful again.

(She also definitely has traits of 'Intelligent Monster' - she really, really likes killing people/beings just to prove she can (which is a common trait among Vault Hunters but it is also what makes Nisha become a Vault Hunter.))

It wasn't often that you got to go into the city with Ijekiel what with him always being busy with his studies and you rarely being permitted entry into the Alpheus estate after a couple of attempts to sneak Ijekiel out to spend time with you away from his father and Jennette went wrong and Duke Alpheus couldn't keep ignoring the fact that you were attempting to help his son shirk his studies.

But could he blame you? He left for several years to study abroad. It was only to be expected that you would want to spend time with him.

The two of you would laugh about it now that the various incidents had gone and passed and you reminisced over the expressions of the maids as they caught the two of you hanging a dangerous number of feet above the ground, trying to use various bedsheets tied to the post of Ijekiel's bed to sneak out.

It was you that had suggested it but you couldn't take all of the blame- or at least wouldn't- since is had been him that had recommended the book that had given you the idea to you but that was something that the two of you were still debating between each other, even as you walked side by side through various streets.

"I'm offended that you think that I could ever be capable of doing something so improper. And to drag in the pride and joy of the Alpheus household? I could never." Your gasp of indignation and words, a teasing and clearly joking edge to your voice, had Ijekiel biting back a laugh deciding rather to smirk at you and show you clearly faux remorse.

"Then I apologise for my accusations." He gave you a small bow, hand on his heart to show his 'sincerity'. "Would you allow this young duke to make it up to you by buying you whatever you might want from this city?"

You looked away when his eyes met yours, that same mirthful glint in them that always made you that little bit flustered and you pretended to consider. Of course you would accept.

"Hm, I've deemed it an acceptable act for my forgiveness." You looked back at him, trying to upkeep your already failing farce of being indifferent but couldn't help but smile when faced with Ijekiel's soft smile and self satisfied expression, him having returned to a regular standing position during your contemplation from his initial mock bow.

He put out his hand to you, as if asking you to dance and beamed at you, a bright closed eyed smile that still somehow made him look elegant. "Then, shall we?"

You gladly took his hand, clasping it in your own with a matching smile. "We shall." Before very quickly using it to drag him with you, laughing at his noise of surprise though he'd soon righted himself as he ran a little ways behind you, still guided by his hand in his. "Come on, Kiel, the cafe I was talking you about before is here!"

The two of you were lucky that you were in more unassuming clothes. Who could have imagined that it was you and the Alpheus heir running around from place to place like children?

It wasn't long before the two of you had left the café, Kiel having covered the expenses as usual- ever the gentleman- and the two of you walked aimlessly, just talking about this and that as you floated from place to place, occasionally having to remind Kiel that you already had more than enough whenever he offered to buy you something.

It was loud all around, but in a good way. A way that you had missed. You rarely went out to see the town without Kiel, it just wasn't as fun and the hum in the background was one of them. If always sounded too quiet in big estates.

Admittedly through, a few things did catch your eye. In particular a brooch. One that you had held up and decidedly placed against Ijekiel's chest in the place of his other that he had already donned.

You stated at it for a moment and smiled. "It suits you. Everything does, but this one does a really good job at highlighting your eyes."

And it did, a golden and yellow brooch, with a sun-like motif, the shadows on it not prominent and only seemed to be highlighted in a warm gold. "Like melted sunlight. Warm and always there to block out shadows." Perhaps you were milking it a little at the end but it was worth it when you looked up and found a faint pink blush dusted across Kiel's face.

Every time I see one of your well thought out posts I think “yes’ that’s exactly it! She’s got it! And she was able to put it into words what I couldn’t” im not necessarily saying your words are gospel but that you have such a reasonable way of interpreting and wording this series. And it seems like there should hardly be any room for disputes. You’d have to reallly dig for it. Thank you so much!! One of the nicest things to hear is that I'm at least coming across as somewhat logical in my posts.

We're all just swinging in the dark because none of us are getting access to SJMs thoughts but most of the time (though I do occasionally go off the deep-end) I try to work within the limits of what she tells us in the book.

When people try to argue with me and say things like, "well you don't know because the two characters could have done this off page", it's aggravating. If that's how we're playing it, I could easily say, "well maybe Gwyn and Az have secretly been hanging out since Solstice" or "maybe Elain told Lucien off page that she's scared of how much she feels drawn to him and she's not ready".

It's one thing to draw conclusions based on the info we do have but creating scenarios that don't line up with what we're told is pretty pointless if you're serious about guessing what's going to happen.

Of course I could still be wrong, maybe I'm not reading the text the way SJM intends for it to be read. But at least I usually try to stay within the bounds of it.

TAEHUN

He was famous for being overly jealous and not at the same time--that was Taehun's thing. The catch was he was only jealous about petty things.

Exhibit A: glaring at anyone who expressed interest in you, even if it was in the most completely platonic way.

Honestly though, even that was kind of an act. A neverending joke, if you could call it that. It was just funny embarrassing you when he acted overbearing by blurting out he was your boyfriend or being overly touchy with you to express that he was your boyfriend.

Point was, he was too confident in himself and you to have any insecurities that would fester into feeling unsure about the relationship between the both of you.

"So why the HELL have I been feeling weird lately?" His million dollar question of the week. For reasons unknown (or unacknowledged...) by himself, he had been bothered by words he overheard you telling a friend of yours the other day.

"I wish my boyfriend was as nice as them."

They were words he easily laughed at and brushed aside at the time, yet they've been lingering in his mind. It wasn't as if it was the first time he heard you say something like that, which made it even more confusing for him. Now that he thought about it though, maybe it was the fact that he overheard you say it.

It was different when you were saying it in front of him because it easily came off as a joke, but behind his back...? He had to admit your tone was lighthearted, but still. Maybe you meant it more knowing he wasn't around? Does that even make sense...?

He grumbled and ruffled his hair up before leaning back on the couch. Before he could shut his eyes, the sound of your voice made him turn his head.

"What're you upset about today, huh?"

"Mind your business," he huffed, moving to wrap an arm around your shoulders as you joined him on the couch. "Where have you been, anyway?"

"I was helping your dad outside with some stuff?"

"Oh."

The abrupt end to the conversation resulted in an awkward silence, but it didn't take long to melt into a comfortable one as you both went on to do your own things. You busied yourself with your phone and Taehun just tried to enjoy your presence. Occasionally he glanced down at your screen and asked what you were doing, or you would start small talk.

It was nice, but not enough to dismiss Taehun's thoughts. He figured maybe he was overthinking and spending time with you would reassure him of your feelings for him, yet the words, "I wish my boyfriend was as nice as them," continued to circle in his mind.

"This is stupid."

"Hm?" You looked up at him, eyes full of innocence.

Taehun stared into them for a moment, as if there was an answer for his question in your eyes, and then sighed after finding nothing. He just pulled you in a little closer and laid his head on top of yours.

Confused, some fumbled words came out of your mouth before you managed to say, "If something's bothering you, you can tell me, you know."

"Yeah, but how do I say it without getting fucking embarrassed?" Red was already beginning to color in Taehun's cheeks. He only forced himself to reply after you nudged him with an elbow.

"I'm nice to you, right?" Yikes. That came out all wrong. What the hell kind of question was that?

"Uh..." Understandably, you became even more confused. "Yeah?"

Well, since Taehun already put a start on this thing, he decided he'd keep moving forward--he'd just have to hope he didn't crash and burn.

After a quick few seconds of thinking, he replied, "Okay, but if I..." He grit his teeth, hating the cringe he was feeling towards himself crawl up his spine. "Ever make you mad. Or sad. You have to tell me."

You went quiet and now dread began to fill Taehun up. He was being as vague as possible, there was no way you were connecting the dots.

"No way... is THE Taehun Seong worried about being too mean?"

Great, you didn't connect the dots, but also damn you for still teasing him.

He pulled away to frown at you. "Shut up, I'm being serious."

You laughed and moved to give his cheek a peck. "Relax, I know. And don't worry, if you ever upset me--" On the same place you kissed his cheek, you gave it a pinch and he squinted an eye. "--I'll let you know. Otherwise, you don't have to feel bad. I know most of what you say isn't meant to be taken personally." The soft smile on your face turned into a grin. "Besides, if I couldn't stand it, why would I date your rude-ass?"

Those few words were all Taehun needed to get his weighted worries off his shoulders and suddenly he felt stupid worrying about something so small. Well, he thought it was stupid in the first place, but you were really solidifying the feeling.

He couldn't help but laugh at himself. Fortunately, it made sense to in the conversation as well so you hummed along, and he was content to roll with it.

But first he gave you a kiss and then proceeded to ignore any of your questions for the reasoning behind it.

Jealousy was a rare feeling for someone like Seongjun. After all, what could a man as rich, powerful, and smart as him have to be jealous of? Even seeing you spend time with other people never made him blink an eye. Who was he to stop you from hanging out with the people you wanted to, anyway?

Yes, indeed, he was a good man and a good lover.

To you, at least.

Ironically, that was the same thing that haunted him. Outside of you, he wasn't sure anyone else who knew him personally would call him... nice. Because he wasn't.

He had already wrestled with what little good his heart had left, so that wasn't what bothered him. He mostly made peace with who he was now and who he wanted to be, it was just when it came to you that he felt a little unsteady.

Changing such a major part of himself for someone wasn't something he feel like he'd do, no matter how much he loved the person. Thus, the heavy choice fell to you.

It was your decision, whether or not to stay with someone with hands as stained as his. He wouldn't blame you if you left, the same way he questioned why you stayed. He just knew he was gently holding your hand, and you were holding his in response.

Hand in loving hand. For now. Mostly. Maybe?

Every once in a while, doubt clouded his vision and he wasn't sure he could feel your hand. Some days he loosened his grip, thinking, "Today's the day they come to their senses and leave me." Other days he comfortably held on, eased by the warmth from your hand.

But sometimes even that wasn't enough, and now was one of those times.

He hated how his stomach churned as he watched you finish up one last conversation with a coworker on his way to pick you up from your workplace. He hated how he couldn't even be mad, because you had gotten so close to your coworker, even he got to know the person a little and they were genuinely really nice. Much, much nicer than him.

Walking home with you, holding your hand, he couldn't help but think you would be better off with your coworker. Safe and comfortable, with someone more normal. Hell, it didn't have to be your coworker, just someone like them.

"Is this jealousy...?" Seongjun shook his head. "No, it's more like... insecurity. A really pathetic and self pitying feeling of insecurity." He sighed, immediately regretting it when you turned to raise a brow at him.

"Something the matter?"

He plastered on a smile, but you saw through it too easily and frowned. "It's nothing--"

"Come on, you know you're not very good at hiding things from me."

Seongjun paused for a moment before chuckling and looking off to the side. He hummed, trying to see how long he could derail the conversation. It wasn't that long, unfortunately. Still, he hesitated before clearing his throat to make sure he could sound as lighthearted as possible before asking, "Promise you won't make fun of me?"

"Promise," you replied in a singsong voice.

He laughed a little, though it trailed off and became awkward. "Well... I think I might be jealous."

Not exactly the truth, but it was the best way he could communicate his feelings without being too honest. He wasn't sure he was ready for that kind of conversation yet, and it would definitely be better to have behind closed doors, not in a public space.

You gasped somewhat playfully. "Of my coworker?"

"Wow, right on the first guess~" Seongjun was still trying his best to keep the conversation light.

"Aw, you're so cute!" you cooed, making him feign a bit of anger.

"Hey, you said you wouldn't make fun of me."

You only hummed in amusement. "I know, but I couldn't help it." You gave him a grin and batted your eyes. "May I politely ask why you're jealous?"

Seongjun thinned his lips. "I just think... that your coworker is nice." You tilted your head at him, prompting him for more details. It took a few tense seconds before he eventually got himself to add, "Wouldn't you want to be with them instead of someone like me?"

The tense seconds came back except they were longer and more stressful because the silence was now coming from you. Seongjun glanced your way, caught by surprise to see you staring intently at him. Almost as if you were seeing right through his current act, and it nearly made him feel ashamed. He tried to stay strong anyway, and smiled at you.

You reflected the expression back, but it looked a little sad. After giving his hand a little squeeze, you said, "You know I'd never want to be with anyone else than you, Seongjun. I believe you'll always be someone I'll love."

He let out a breathy chuckle, unable to hide the bitterness in it. "And what if one day I stop being that person?"

"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." A simple and straightforward answer, but full of love. "Don't worry about 'what ifs' and just focus on our happy present. If you don't stop worrying, you'll only give yourself gray hairs."

Seongjun nearly stopped in his tracks in surprise at your sincerity. The joke at the end made his smile grow into a more genuine one and he ended up just laughing. His heart was swelling and he didn't know what he could ever say or do to express how happy he was to have you in his life.

So, for now, he just leaned in to give you a kiss, not caring about what anyone around would think.

Hi hi hi!! I'm a huge fan of Orion, and sometimes when I let my mind wander, I think about how far someone like him would be willing to go for his partner hehe... To what extent would they be able to humiliate him and do things to him until he'd refuse?

I must apologise to the Alastor FWB anon... I know they are eagerly looking forward to their request, but I've been having some writing block regarding their request, and I feel I should at least work on something whilst I wait for it to pass! What better character to write for than his beloved older brother! Anyway, I hope you enjoy, anon!

Character: Orion Catesby Word Count: 1914 Scenario: Orion and his boundaries regarding his partner Warnings: NSFW, possibly unhealthy dynamic (?)

Orion

Raised in a noble family of high importance and being the eldest son of said family at that, pride and decorum are values instilled into Orion since childhood. Although his own pride isn't something he values as much as some other more stuck-up nobles, it's something Orion at least recognises as important to his station, and so even as a partner, he tries his best to stick within regular conventions.

From a distant outsiders perspective, being Orion's partner may appear the same as being his colleague or a mere passing acquaintance. Only those who know him better would be able to see the subtle signs that hint at a closer relationship. Then of course, only behind closed doors is where Orion will be open to more forward gestures of affection.

Considering his status in society and the rigorous marital standards he must meet, doubtless his relationship with you is of a more elicit nature. There's no chance he'd naturally end up matching with someone dirty-minded after his parent's vetting process. You would've simply appeared suddenly like a force of nature he's unable to properly comprehend nor control. His life of rule-following has made him occasionally yearn for something different, and you're that something different.

His status has made him good at commanding others on what to do, and equally has left him susceptible to someone like you who's more forward with their desires and will keep pushing and pushing him until he's unable to resist any longer. Though Orion will try to follow along with his family's expectations till the end of his days, it's not impossible to have him do otherwise, and once the dam has sprung a leak, it's only a matter of time before it also bursts.

Getting into a relationship wouldn't have been easy to begin with. You'd have to wear him down until he'd finally admit his feelings and wear him down even more for him to act on them. Even the very thought of having a relationship not approved by his mother and father makes him uneasy, but if his desire for you trump that unease, he'll slowly edge himself towards this new and exciting way of life he can live aside you.

Orion is contradictory in that he'll disapprove of the sort of person his brother is, having barely a shred of self-respect when it came to his chastity, tell you over and over that this isn't the sort of thing he should be doing with anyone—he's to inherit his father's title, take over his family estate—yet he'll continue going along with your relationship all the same.

The acts between the two of you will have to be small at first; Orion is the type of man to believe even something as tame as hand-holding should be kept out of sight of peering eyes, regardless of whether he enjoys it or not. You'll likely be initiating yourself, only to be met with discouraging glares and his best attempts to dissuade you by distracting you with other matters or mentioning the many of which he must attend to.

In the after hours when Orion is winding down from a long day of work is when he is more easily tempted. When he's relaxed and nursing a glass of gin, perfectly able to be preyed on by someone like you who's oh-so-eager to go further. Who is he to deny you? You're the one he's fallen for.

A night of lustful kisses, ardent touches and eventually the penultimate act itself would have Orion waking up the next morning with a deep sense of regret. His time with you would be his first time, and whilst you regard it casually, lovingly, almost as if it's something you're pleased about, he'll be fronting a mopishly frustrating silent treatment to you while he ruminates in his self-reproach. The expectations he has for himself are something he holds in high regard, so it'll take some more coaxing for him to open up again.

But of course, he will with a partner like you. Once he's tasted sweetness, he won't want to go back to not having it. Over time, he'll be more and more easily persuaded into lewd acts and nights of passion. He'll call you insatiable for having such an unbelievably greedy appetite for something so dirty, all comments he makes as he lets you paw at him through his clothes and go much, much further than just touching. He may not be as insatiable as he claims you are, but the way he lets you go about your business with him is enough proof for you to know there's definitely some hunger behind his words.

Such acts are to be kept strictly in private and strictly by the book. You being the dominant partner in the relationship is already a glaring point of shame for Orion, so if you were to push him any further, he'll refuse you, or at the very least try. Sex is fine (a statement he wouldn't want to even think, let alone say aloud) but anything else is new to him. New, exciting, and all the more terrifying for it.

Orion will say he doesn't like being demeaned, but if he were entirely truthful, he would at least say he doesn't hate it. There's something comforting about letting someone else have complete control of him, and he's always been good at following orders, so why not yours? Within time, you may be able to ask him to pleasure you instead of the other way around—have him on his knees with his head between your legs, using only his mouth to make you feel good. Joke about putting him on a leash and collar so you can tug at him whenever he's not doing a good enough job, and he'll glare at you with his mouth full.

More demeaning acts are ones he'll only allow occasionally. If he did things like that too often, he'd probably never get any work done. His shift in demeanour had probably been, for a short while at least, noticeable to his family and some servants. With his life with you and his normal life as a noble lord clashing together, sometimes it was difficult for him to keep up the front he usually held together well, especially when you visited him at work.

But humans adapt, and so would he. Though he'd feel largely fine, he'd find it disturbing how his nightlife differs so much from his day-to-day, and how accepting he's become of it. Over time, he'd probably end up letting you push him more than he should. It shouldn't be enjoyable, but it is.

He's probably never going to be the type to dress up for you. Not in any extreme way. He won't ever want to wear clothes not meant for his gender, nor ones not meant for his title, but that doesn't mean he can never dress up at all.

The outfit he wears for his fencing practice is quite figure-hugging, something that Orion has never paused to think about as that's simply how it's meant to be to do its job. You've already seen his body underneath all of his clothes, but why not taint this item of clothing for him too?

In such a tight suit, all of his assets are perfectly on show—why not make mention of that to him if you happen upon him training alone one day? Orion dislikes when his two worlds cross over, so this is a way of easily perturbing him. The next time he dons the outfit he'd only seen as practical before, he'll be able to think of nothing but the way you'd ogled him in it.

It's the same for any suit he has to wear for formal parties. Ones he keeps specially for important occasions. He can only hope you don't end up finding out about those. The last thing he needs is to be coaxed into some perverse roleplay, with you playing the guest and him the party host, honour-bound to your every whim.

And speaking of control, one thing he'll be more likely to go along with is restraints. With a stature like his, it's obvious he'd be able to overpower many, yourself included, but Orion isn't physically confrontational at all outside of a fencing arena, so if you surprise him by suddenly cuffing his wrists to a bedpost, he's not going to break free. He'll simply give you a cautious look as if asking what on earth you're up to this time, only voicing his concerns and doing nothing else. After that, you're mostly free to take him however you see fit.

The times Orion will protest the most will be when you dare to initiate something with him in public. It wouldn't matter whether there's only one person around to see or a whole ballroom, the idea that you'd endanger the two of you would shock him into stunned silence sudden enough he'd almost let you get away with more. In Orion's mind, it's already bad enough he lets you go so far in private, but doing even the slightest thing in public is a boundary he wants to stay far, far away from.

But like most things with Orion, you can get away with more over time. In the beginning, if your hands would wander whilst the two of you are in the presence of others, he'll brush them aside or simply grab them out of sight to keep you from doing anything else. He'll certainly chastise you afterwards, perhaps more harshly than usual, and insist over and over that you don't do something like that again, but when have you ever listened?

Give it enough time, and he'll become so exasperated by your lack of will to give up and just let your hands wander for once, see how far you'll really be willing to take things without him intervening at all. Or well, see how far he can manage to let you go before he once again bottles out and shoots you a pleading look to please, please stop.

Though you'll never get away with much when others are a stone's throw away, working Orion up enough so that it's just that much easier to ruin him later when they two of you are alone is just as much fun. Try as he might to give you the silent treatment once again, he's in too deep to say no, and your touch feels to good to deny after all that teasing.

Perhaps if you try hard enough, you can even get him to go the full mile somewhere that isn't his bedroom. How about his office, where anyone could pass by at any time and hear the lewd noises you're forcing out of him? How about the library amongst some of the more hidden aisles of shelves, where the librarian could catch the two of you at any time should he moan just a little too loudly? How about the empty hallway of his manor during a party his family is hosting, where a stray guest could happen by and catch the first-in-line at the mercy of someone like you?

Convincing him would definitely be difficult—if you must do this now, why can't you both just move somewhere else? Simply let his protests fall on deaf ears like you always have, and eventually even Orion might let it slide. Not often, but once, twice, perhaps more after that...

alright SO!!!!!! this list is going to be decided based on how likely they are to survive in an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic scenario IGNORING the possibility of them becoming remnants................ i reckon despair still definitely has a say in all of this just because of the nature of this catastrophe but i will try avoid them becoming "remnant-like"/evil if that makes sense !!!!!! ALSO this is ignoring the possibility of them getting like. nuked or smth

FROM MOST TO LEAST LIKELY TO SURVIVE!!!

• sae: knows how to survive off of very little, lives in a (mostly-- her afi is still alive and kicking probably!!!!!!) secluded fishing shack off of the coast of iceland where the nearest town is like a forty minute drive. she is (as her ultimate would suggest lol) an extremely skilled fisherman and sailor, so should it REALLY come down to it she could man a solo ship into the ocean for a few weeks and be totally fine. not only that but she is remarkably well adjusted to this life already and will have little difficulty adjusting should a catastrophic event hit the majority of the population. sae is fine with seclusion, very physically strong in the rare chance somebody does attack her in person, knows how to live off of the ocean, and lives far away from heavily populated areas. honestly disregarding the loneliness that will definitely start creeping in on her and having to deal with people dying all across the world she will be so fine gfjhkdghksfhfdgdfjk. she would be more than happy to keep her and her afi safe, and maybe the occasional wandering survivor should they approach with good intentions

• naomi: sae is the outlier in that i know for a fact she would be extremely likely to survive, but EVERYBODY ELSE on this list has a much higher percentage of getting themselves killed LMFAO. that being said, naomi has been a bit of a survivalist for most of her life and is definitely scrappy enough to make her way around. now when i say "survivalist" i don't mean she's like. a hunter or knows much about outdoor living, which is definitely a disadvantage for her, but she's survived periods of time with limited/no food or shelter. obviously this wasnt an apocalyptic scenario but she could definitely apply some of her knowledge she's gained from that time!!! it would be hard to catch her, so if she were to get herself killed it would probably be because she seriously fucked up somewhere along the line or she died of hunger/freezing. AND ALSO IMPORTANTLY naomi is not the most headstrong character and despair is certainly just as much of a threat to her as other people are. paranoia could be helpful in some cases in keeping her safe but it will really end up damaging her in the end, not to mention other people if they ever manage to run into her. likely wouldn't hang out in a group (but honestly i could see it in an au that is nicer to her lol. a group of like four or five that takes her in and tells her to chill the hell out)

• erin: NOW I KNOW SHE SEEMS REALLY HIGH UP ON THIS LIST so let me start off by saying a few things. number one the jump in survival rate has SERIOUSLY plummeted from naomi to erin, like they are NOT in the same realm of conceivably surviving LMFAOO. number two while in any normal apocalyptic scenario erin would suffer, i can really really clearly see one scenario where she ends up being ok. like in a normal scenario she would really have to toughen up and drop the pippy act immediately (which, if push came to shove, she could), and while she isn't extremely strong or knowledgable about survival she is very ruthless. despair would hit her like a TRUCK at first, mostly because her entire life was dedicated to that kids show of hers that is now gone forever along with most of its audience, but once she gets over that (IF she does) she would absolutely grow a backbone and help out. does that mean she survives??? not necessarily. but in the event she does end up getting over the despair she would likely join a group of some kind and help out in any way that she can. ALSO. I KNOW THIS IS KINDA CHEATING SINCE TECHNICALLY THE EVENTS OF ULTRA DESPAIR GIRLS IS "AFTER" THE TRAGEDY. but if we are considering those events then erins survival rate just shot wayyyy up because i can really see the kids of towa city taking a liking to her due to her children's show and just kidnapping her as a second servant LMFAOOOO. some kinda jester even. and ohhhh my god she would get so fed up with nagito. she survived a whole tragedy and reshaped her entire personality only for THIS asshole to give her grief good fucking lord

• ryobe: ryobe is a lot more cunning than he first seems, and while he knows nothing about survival or fighting (should it come down to it which it likely will), he could reasonably work his way up in a group of survivors. while his refusal to relent his goofy personality in such an upsetting situation would definitely earn him quite a few enemies, it probably DOES help him to get through a lot of the trauma in general. unfortunately it is also very likely his downfall as well. he doesnt have this "whole world gets ripped out from under him" moment like erin does and when he finally does realise he needs to get a bit of a grip it is wayyyyy too late. he would really piss off a lot of important people and in an apocalyptic scenario where everybody is extremely paranoid you need to be able to resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner. and the second he gets kicked out of a group (if he even MADE IT to one in the first place) its OVER. he can not survive on his own, both mentally and physically

• mika: she's got more of a grip on reality than ryobe does but she doesn't have any particular skills that will cause her to excel in this scenario. can't fight, not particularly charismatic, not particularly cunning. it really all comes down to luck and she famously does not have a great track record with this

• yoshito: a huge softie with, unfortunately, zero relevant skills. he either goes mad or dies before he gets the chance to. i cant see a scenario where he ever fights back like a few of his classmates with similar strength would, he isn't very fast, and he is not equipped to handle loneliness. the only thing i could possibly think of that he could use is his knowledge of certain shelters and food banks, but ALL of them are likely to get targeted in an apocalypse like this so he's pretty shit out of luck in general lol. he'd stay hopeful for as long as he possibly can, but i can't really see him making it super far. best case scenario he becomes a future foundation member

• rie: nothing in her life had prepared her for this and i really don't think she would make it. while she would probably have a "whole world gets ripped from under her" moment like erin did she would not adapt quickly and even if she did push through she is not nearly as ruthless or determined to survive. physically weak, probably losing her mind a bit and letting that charismatic side of her slip, and has no clue how to find food or shelter. not to mention the lifestyle adjustment would also be extremely jarring for her as well, even if she is probably more adjusted to living on very little than most would expect of her. overall just cant really see it, in a beautiful world where everything goes right for her she might be able to pull herself out of trouble by the skin of her teeth
