Some additional MHW impressions:
- The character animations are great. The terrain is pretty much never flat, and while this is no Death Stranding, this game is also not a pure walking simulator, and the way the characters stumble and flail around, plus the sliding animations are all very fluid. This is not a big thing, but it adds a lot to the immersion and believability of the World. Even just traversing this world is a challenge for your hunter.
- I hate the item management. The item wheel specifically makes me want to rip my hair out. That atrocious thing in a game, where preparation and bringing the right tools with you is a key part of the gameplay, makes no sense to me. I'm okay with having...a lot of item options to bring to the hunt and counter different states, however the horrible interface makes me want to bring as little to a hunt as a potion and an antidote at most.
Update: apparently the item wheel is customisable, which is a blessing, but I also wish I learned this from somewhere in-game, rather than the internet.
- The food system is...so obscure. 30+ hours into the game and I knew literally nothing about it, and it is an extremely useful one! I was struggling to get Rations, which are a very useful item, but there is no way to craft them or buy them from vendors. Turns out, you can cook them in the canteen. This habit of leaving out information is especially jarring, when opposed when the oppressively hand-holding tutorials and extremely detailed text tutorials.
- I love the subtle way the cutscenes teach you game mechanics. It may even bee too subtle, because I did not realise the things characters did in the cutscenes are applicable to the actual gameplay. Like all the slinger uses in cutscenes are genuine hunting tips. The Handler specifically shows you that the fire ammo can clear out toxic gas in the Rotten Vale even, but I still didn't really get it. Guess I underestimated the elemental system in the game, and I should pay more attention to it.
- The monster capturing practise of the hunters disturb me greatly. It was always jarring that you need to beat a monster to half-death for capture, but I excused this as being a game mechanic. But...but you get More monster parts from a capture quest on completion. This makes me think you bring in a barely alive animal for a dissection, rather than capture.

MK Characters Intro Banter With Monster Hunter Reader!
Tumblr media
In this scenario the Reader is a monster hunter from the Monster Hunter game franchise! I love, love, love MH, and I also love, love, love, MK! So why not bring them together!? Reader is gender neutral and is simply called 'hunter' in these.
Tags/warnings: Language, talk of violence (against people and animal-like monsters), Monster Hunter termanology and references, Reader is a funny monster hunting badass!
Characters: Liu Kang, Scorpion, Raiden, Johnny Cage.
Part 2 Part 3
Liu Kang
Tumblr media
You: "Y'know, I hunt dragons for a living."
Lui Kang: "Is that a threat, hunter?"
You: "Just a friendly heads up."
Liu Kang: "What are those blades made of?"
You: "My dual blades? These are made from the parts of Rathalos and Rathian I've hunted."
Liu Kang: "They are pulsing with both flame and poison..."
Liu Kang: "My dragon fire does not effect you nearly as much as others."
You: "These talismans aren't for show, Liu."
Liu Kang: "Let's see if I can't knock them off!"
You: "I'd love to see you get into a kick-off with a Seregios."
Liu Kang: "A Seregios? Another monster of yours?"
You: "Just imagine a golden parrot with knives for feathers. ...They also kick really hard."
Scorpion
Tumblr media
You: "Never thought I'd meet someone as angry as an Odogaron."
Scorpion: "My rage cannot ever be sated."
You: "I can't imagine how hard that is.."
Scorpion: "Have a taste of hellfire!"
You: "Please no, I've already hunted a Magnemalo today.. "
Scorpion: "I will prove a much bigger challenge."
You: "It feels odd fighting you."
Scorpion: "How so, hunter?"
You: "I only ever fight monsters. I feel I may go too hard on you."
Scorpion: "That longsword is impressive."
You: "Thanks! It's made from that Teostra you saw me hunting earlier!"
Scorpion: "You mean to tell me you successfully slayed that creature?!"
Raiden
Tumblr media
Raiden: "What are these Elder Dragons you speak of?"
You: "They are the scientifically unexplainable monsters that roam my world. I have fought and slain many."
Raiden: "Impressive. We could use your skills in defending Earthrealm."
You: "A Zinogre would be a good companion for you, Raiden."
Raiden: "I have no interest in pets."
You: "Not even a dragon dog with natural thunder abilities?"
Raiden: "I must admit, you are hard to strike with my lightening."
You: "I had to get good at dodging thunder attacks when a Kirin went berserk back home."
Raiden: "Your world has made you versatile indeed."
You: "Raiden, help me test out my new weapon!"
Raiden: "Are you welding an axe or a sword and shield?"
You: "Both, baby!"
Johnny Cage
Tumblr media
Johnny Cage: "Damn, you take hits like a tank!"
You: "Armor and food, Johnny. Armor and food."
Johnny Cage: "What are those cats feeding you!?"
You: "Ready to face the music, Johnny?"
Johnny Cage: "Wait, you mean that's not a hammer?!"
You: "I'm gonna play the Ninja Mime theme while bludgeoning you to the pavement!"
You: "No Johnny, you cannot pet the monster I captured."
Johnny Cage: "Why not? It's just a big turkey!"
You: "A Kulu-Ya-Ku is stronger than it looks!"
Johnny Cage: "You beat that poor thing to death!"
You: "Unfortunately, that Pukei-Pukei became to aggressive near my village. I had no choice."
Johnny Cage: "Well pookie-pookie didn't know what hit her.."
------
Hope ya liked these! I keep saying I'm gonna post write stuff here but never do lol
Here's the monsters mentioned in these interactions for those curious! I put them in a lil collage in the order that they were mentioned!

ok so i had a better idea about desmond turning into creatures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he gets raised up from a pup into Ebony Odogaron. Might be good for stealth since he'd blend into the dark. And the zap zap stuff might be useful. Parkour? no problem with the sets of double claws.
Or he's a Violet Mizutsune. This one is probably even better for stealth considering it slides around in its own soap water and can hunt other creatures and set its soap water on fire. (the trailer for it is bomb af) It's a very mobile creature so it probably could parkour because its body movement.
Tumblr media
It's got white on it too >:3
Speaking of Monhun, here’s an idea of the Assassins becoming hunters in MonHun World, here’s an idea of which MonHun monster Desmond could be reincarnated to and an idea of Desmond being reborn as a Zinogre.
What I remember most about Odogaron is that it has an enraged state which makes him faster and harder to hit so the usual tactic is to keep running and dodging until it exhausts itself, then it’ll be an easier battle.
Odogaron is purely a melee monster and Desmond probably try to use his tail as a weapon more often than a normal Odogaron. He’ll probably as small as a corgi first but soon starts growing and keeps growing while being raised by Altaïr.
People just assumed he’s an exotic animal from crusader lands until the Third Crusades begin and the Assassins notice that crusaders don’t recognize him and some even fear him.
By that point, he’s grown large enough that he wear horse armor and people would think he’s a horse.
He can jump really high though and his claws can dig to walls, making it easy for him to climb high structure.
So what you usually happens is that he lets Altaïr disembark before they reach the location and Desmond would stealth his way inside the city using the walls and rooftops while Altaïr enter it the usual way. (Or, sometimes, he stays with Desmond and Desmond climbs up)
Desmond starts to reach the normal adult Odogaron size after Altaïr took the mentorship and the Apple from Al Mualim so there are rumors that Desmond becomes as big as he is because of the Apple but it can’t be proven.
He’s, of course, Sef and Darim’s babysitter because Altaïr believes he’s smarter than humans (Desmond thinks Altaïr is blinded by their years of being together, less master and pet and more companions/family).
Of course, Abbas’ coup fail because they tried to kill Desmond first but, at that point, Altaïr had made an armor for him that’s basically made of the same material as the Armor of Altaïr.
Desmond stays with the Ibn-La'Ahad family until he feels the urge to leave and he gets to Firenze in time to ‘stop’ the execution.
And by stop, yes, that does mean the people of Firenze still talked about the day a mighty hellhound maul and eat (he didn’t eat anyone) the guards and Uberto Alberti.
… all to save the cursed Auditore family.
(As a reference to Odogaron’s penchant for eating Legiana corpse, maybe Desmond’s favorite food is a leaf that looks a lot like Legiana’s wings?)
Ah, Mizutsune. The monster I bullied in Rise until I realized that Rakna-Kadaki’s set is more of my style. XD
Okay, but in all seriousness, Desmond as a Mizutsune would be a fun idea, especially as this is a kind of Leviathan that can move fast both on land and on water. That soap it secretes? It makes it easier for it to move even on difficult terrain, making a Mizutsune Desmond one of the fastest and most elegant destructive force that the Templars ever witness. This soap hinders other people too, making it harder for them to move.
Also, it could shoot out pressurized water from its mouth so Desmond would have a devastating long range attack.
By the way, there’s a white and red Mizutsune that would look good for Desmond: The Soulseer Mizutsune:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Up to you if you want to keep the scars on the eyes to make Desmond blind, make it part of the plot later on or decide that he wouldn’t get the scars.

MORE DUNGEON MESHI x MONSTER HUNTER
So, I said on a post, and I'm quoting, "I doubt Laios would have much of a chance against a Deviljho, [...]" ( This post )
And now people are arguing in my tags saying that Laios would definitely beat a Deviljho.
SO that made me reconsider a thing or two, HOWEVER I think a lot of people are forgetting what a Deviljho is. So let's look further into that : (REMINDER this is not serious I'm just having fun)
Tumblr media
what- what are you talking about. No. No hunters are not grounded. They wield weapons heavier than they are while wearing batshit crazy armor. They can jump from icredible heights and suffer no damage *canonically*. Hunters are inhumanly strong canonically, and that is the only reason they do not die instantly to monster attacks.
That AND the hunter/huntress you play in the games is an exception even among hunters. Especially in the old games we had a lot of tales and quest descriptions that implied most hunters would die against such monsters. The one who faces Deviljhos and Elder Dragons are exceptions that are considered legends. (Like The Sapphire Star of the Fifth Fleet in MH World, the hunter you play.)
Tumblr media
OK so multiple things to say, both in favor and against Laios in this situation.
1 : Now that yes, a lot of tags talked about Laios being effective against Monster Hunter monsters because he would LOVE studying their weaknesses and that is the trademark of a good monster, and I agree with that, a really good thing for Laios. He would probably figure out how to use it's appetite against Deviljho, using poisoned meat and other things to make the fight easier (let's remember nonetheless that Deviljho's metabolism is very resistant and wouldn't die from poison, the reason it can eat most of everything) 1.5 : HOWEVER the second option is terrible. Do not starve a Deviljjho. Not only would no one be able to do that consistantly, a Deviljho WILL find a way to eat, but the more starved is a Deviljho the more violent and strong it becomes : Starving Deviljho and Savage Deviljho (two different Variants) comes from a Deviljho so hungry it becomes near unstoppable.
2 : Ok but Marcille is cheating (I'm joking I'm joking but yeah, with Marcille on his side it would increase his chances greatly.)
3 : "It has a much thinner hide than a Red Dragon." That is true HOWEVER, let's remember : The Red Dragon as a spot that kills it instantly if hit, that is not the case of a Deviljho. It's Hide is still *very* strong, AND it has spikes making it harder to hit it without weapons boucing right off.
4 : Ok but who decides that, what if Laios gets Isekaid to MH universe. (that is not a serious point but like, who knows what we consider for what happens in this situation.)
5 : Last one : That wouldn't work, Deviljho has a thick hide, most normal weapons wouldn't do much against it AND one of the things Deviljho does is open up HIS OWN muscles and by how scarred it is. It would survive some Laios swordplay.
Tumblr media
Yes As much as I think Laios would probably die against a Deviljho, he would have a FUCKIN BLAST in the Mh universe : A whole GUILD dedicated to understand and study monster, and some monsters considered good meals. yeah yeah he would love it.
Tumblr media
THAT would be his way to both eat some Deviljho and survive the encounter : Chop off the tail, and flee the furious beast. A carefully crafted plan would make it possible.
NOW some things about Deviljho some of you might have forgotten that might tip the fight in it's favor :
The size :
Tumblr media
Deviljhos are MASSIVE, but they are also FAST, they run fast, they can jump extremely far, they are muscly, they can carry monsters such as ODOGARONS in their jaw without much of an injury. They are also powerful enough to fight back when caught in a trap.
And my last two points :
Tumblr media
1 : Deviljho has a corrosive saliva that corrodes and melts ARMOR off, that's why in the game you get Defense Down when you get pinned in it's jaw. One mistep from Laios, and it's over. Reminder that the guy wears basic iron armor. Laios does havd some healing magic, but that would only buy him a little bit of time.
2 : Now that one is more complicated : Dragonblight is mysterious in canon, no one really knows what the Dragon Element really is, but we do know that it is really powerful, that it hurts real bad, and that it increases your weakness . (and that it's linked to the madness of it's user but that doesn't matter here.) That is really powerful, hard to dodge, and would be really hard for Laios or anyone to truly understand.
A few weaknesses a Deviljho DOES have and that Laios could use :
It's weak to Thunder. I don't know what Laios would do, but who knows he'd probably have an idea.
It's weak to Dragon Element. Well. That one's probably not being used.
It's belly hide DOES become softer when enraged, but it's till very thick, and it's tall enough that it's hard to reach.
It's perpetually hungry, and the use of drugged meats is a known method, Laios would probably figure that one out.
It has little self preservation and is reckless. The thing is, Laios too. But there is things to do here.
Ok I think that's my most autism post I ever did. welp. A reminder, I did this just because I was having fun doing it, this is not serious. A fight between Laios and a Deviljho would have a lot of variables. (I still do think a Deviljho has more chances of winning but who knows) (also hot take Laios is not the best fighter)
that's it that's the post. There you go.

I feel like I really have to complain because while I think it's commonly understood that Monster Hunter has serious problem with with the differences between male and female armor sets, I get the impression most people assume it's very typical difference between "sexy" and "cool" armor. (Male hunters get big pauldrons, female hunters get bikinis.) But that's not really why the situation is so damn frustrating, because there's remarkably little actual fan service throughout the female armors. The sexy bikini armor is sometimes present, but it doesn't really represent what's going on. It's more like there's just an underlying assumption in what fashion style of armor the developers assume you want based on the player's chosen sex.
Like there are examples of a male/female dichotomy in the armor design actually being stylistically justified. Even if they're approaching masculine or feminine presentation in a very simplistic way (and let's be real many games will do far worse than that) it offers up some very interesting fashion choices.
Rhenoplos armor for example has some actual extremely fun differences. On the one hand, there's this extremely unique look for the male set that has a round build some very bizarre claw arms and this cool wide helmet. And on the other hand, you have this delightfully overly cutesy bear motif for the female armor where the gauntlets look perfectly ideal for punching the shit out of something. Deviljho armor also plays with gender dichotomy in a really fun way, effectively exploring that wrestling heel vibe through two very different forms of presentation and ideas of physical prowess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Late game Barroth armor, Odogaron, Paolumu, I think these also stand as great examples of how male and female sets can positively contrast.
But there's a reason why differences are seen negatively, and Goss Harag is a great example of where things start to get really annoying, because ironically the two armor sets aren't that meaningfully different from eachother even though there are some minor differences because of the implied physical build of female characters. For the most part, they're the same armor set aside from the thigh and chest area. In my situation, getting to see that my character's armor emphasizes the boobs is actually kind of a plus. And the male armor emphasizes the pecs so much it's easily justified. ...but while the male Goss Harag set gets to have a sick skull helmet, the female one gets stuck with this stupid looking visor/headdress nonsense. Aside from the crime of being denied a cool skull helmet, were it not for that one point of difference I would not even have to think about what fashion I'm potentially losing out on at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's likewise just as frustrating as with the Tetranadon armor. I don't really personally give that much of a shit how much skin is on display here or whether you can see their boobs. The differences between the male/female form are more egregious here but I'm not gonna die because of it. What drives me up a goddamn wall is that the male set gets this cool looking full gas mask helmet, and the female set gets a doofy hat with goggles. It's not even that I particular dislike the faces in monster hunter, it's that whether a character has a full helmet or not is all the difference in the world for how much of a cool badass you feel like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This pattern repeats for a lot of armor sets throughout the games with varying degrees of difference between the male and female sets. The poster boy Rathalos, Legiana, Diablos, Seething Bazelgeuse and Nargacuga are all valid examples of this. The reason for this difference I have to assume is because there's an initial assumption from the designers about what I want. If I chose a female character it may be inferred that I am explicitly interested in seeing my character's face as often as possible. Because (I assume) they see that choice as me wanting to look at a female character for their body and the face just happens to be part of that. And that's not actually entirely inaccurate, but there's a difference in what I get out of that. And it's a little screwy to think that no one could choose a male hunter for similar reasons.
And I hate deliberately choosing a female character for my own sense of comfort only to loose out on the style and vibe the male armor oozes, which also from a trans perspective is a uniquely infuriating problem.
Going back to positive examples, the Frostfang Barioth Alpha armor does not have this problem. While I hold preference for the male helmet, I cannot deny that the female helmet is equally cool and conveys a distinct feminine quality that makes it feel sharp and dangerous. There are as many differences as there are similarities between these two armor sets, and the inclusion of the rapier accurately conveys what vibe they were going for with the female set, an equal degree of competence and mystique conveyed through elegance rather than machismo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it might be a bit difficult to talk about this problem without making it seem like I'm specifically complaining about objectification, I think that's a part of why this issue exists to begin with but I'm not really cool with harping on people who just want a create-a-character they can use to engage in light voyeurism. I don't like the idea that the solution here is to start taking away sexy outfits, that feels like moving backwards and I'd rather continue to put up with this problem than start putting my comfort above someone else's. Even though there are many sets where the differences could be simply phased out and merged into one armor set, It does not feel fair to do that at the expense of the range of choices and styles these different sets have brought, with Frostfang Barioth I think serving as a peak example of that positive aspect, a true silver lining. All in all, I would much rather that some thought be put into what parts of the existing armor designs are compatible with androgyny, and work on making both choices available to male and female hunters based on that. The best possible case scenario for me would be that female character get to look like a goddamn WH40K space marine in exchange for a bunch of spindly twinks in Nergigante bikinis. And somewhere in between those two extremes, I get to enjoy a much wider selection of cool helmets.

Haven't posted MHW screens in a while, so here are some
Tumblr media
My little kitty squire, he saves me on a regular basis, thank you little guy for your service
Tumblr media
Explorer Grandma is my #2 favourite character in the game where character have No Names Besides Their Profession. Handler's my bff, but I almost love the grandma even more, she is awesome
Tumblr media
(I really need to start using the stealth mantle to take screens of monsters in the wild BEFORE I mercilessly cut them down...)
Tumblr media
Adore the collectibles in the Elder's Recess! They look gorgeous, sadly the textures get weird when I try to take a picture of them.
Speaking of textures, I was happy to delete 47 gbs of highest textures, cause apparently I do not use them anyway and they just east my memory space))) Why isn't this An Option In Every Game And I have To Manually Dig Through Files With Fear Of Breaking The Game Tailing Behind Me. I have only been a pc-gamer for less than half a year, and I already hate the memory space problems. Make the highest-res texture packs optional downloads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Nergigante being a total bastard shots. The first one - he flew to the arena above the one we previously fought on, and the moment I climbed onto it, he did a diving attack, which landed him right back at the lower arena. I had to jump down after him, only for the bastard to Fly Up Again. And then we got right into the beginning of this situation, because he did the dive attack and fell down AGAIN. I swear. This absolute bastard. Also, I'm pretty sure that death pose is a meme?
Finished him off with utter disrespect through firing at him with the slinger. Took me three tries. At least, the high rank armor/weapon grind is finally accesibble now.
Tumblr media
Listen. Listen. I know this is high rank, I do, But This Is A Few Ranks Too High???
I went for a 'quick odogaron grind' hunt. While I was chasing the doggo, who ran to the highest level of the valley, where I followed him, where apparently bazel followed Me, and we all crashed into a poor radobaan who didn't deserve any of this. Bazel was a freakin menace, he kept tailing me, while I was tailing odogaron, simply thinking he'd go away. Apparently not, cause after I managed to cut down the poor doggo, bazel finished me off, And Odogaron Respawned. So i got no materials out of my 'quick doggo grind'. I was angry enough to try to take on the pinecone plane himself, but I only managed to cut his tail off and drive him away, after which I went to hunt the respawned odogaron, Again. I wanted to chase the pinecone afterwards, but he fleed like a coward. Anyway, this was an interesting hunt for sure, and I now have an unfurfilled grudge against bazel, which I will try to remedy for sure. He is really cool tho, I cannot lie, and I think his battle theme is metal? Anyway, pinecone boy is annoying but cool, I like him.
