Taliban has announced that women in Afghanistan will be stoned to death in public for adultery.
The Afghan Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a disturbing proclamation, vowing to implement brutal punishments against women in public. In a chilling voice message broadcasted on state television, Akhundzada directly addressed Western officials, dismissing concerns about violating women’s rights by stoning them to death.
"You say it’s a violation of women’s rights when we stone them to death," Akhundzada stated. "But we will soon implement the punishment for adultery. We will flog women in public. We will stone them to death in public," he declared, marking his most severe rhetoric since the Taliban seized control of Kabul in August 2021.
These grim statements, purportedly from Akhundzada, who has seldom been seen in public except for a few outdated portraits, emanate from Afghanistan’s state TV, now under Taliban control. Akhundzada is believed to be located in southern Kandahar, the Taliban's stronghold. Despite early assurances of a more moderate regime, the Taliban swiftly reverted to harsh public penalties reminiscent of their previous rule in the late 1990s, including public executions and floggings. The United Nations has vehemently criticised these actions, urging the Taliban to cease such practices.
In his message, Akhundzada asserted that the women's rights advocated by the international community contradicted the Taliban’s strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law. Akhundzada emphasised resilience among Taliban fighters, urging them to oppose women's rights persistently. "I told the Mujahedin that we tell the Westerners that we fought against you for 20 years and we will fight 20 and even more years against you," he stated.
His remarks have sparked outrage among Afghans, with many calling for increased international pressure on the Taliban.
"The money that they receive from the international community as humanitarian aid is just feeding them against women," lamented Tala, a former civil servant from Kabul.
"As a woman, I don’t feel safe and secure in Afghanistan. Each morning starts with a barrage of notices and orders imposing restrictions and stringent rules on women, stripping away even the smallest joys and extinguishing hope for a brighter future," she added.
"We, the women, are living in prison," Tala emphasised, "And the Taliban are making it smaller for us every passing day."
Taliban authorities have also barred 330,000 girls from returning to secondary school for the third consecutive year. University doors were closed to women in December 2022 and participation in the workforce is heavily restricted.

Lovejoy have today released their highly-anticipated new EP, ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’.
Tumblr media
Lovejoy is in this article!
British indie-rock group Lovejoy have today released their highly-anticipated new EP, ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’. Listen to the EP here.
The six track EP, which includes the previously released single ‘Call Me What You Like’ (a former BBC Radio 1 Tune of the Week) alongside a further five energetic indie pop tracks, is available now in a variety of formats including digital, CD and cassette. To coincide with the EP release, the band has also revealed an accompanying visualiser for the single ‘Portrait of a Blank Slate’ (watch here) as well as a video for ‘It’s Golden Hour Somewhere’ (watch here).
Lovejoy said: “After a year of radio silence we are overjoyed to finally release our new EP ‘Wake Up & It’s Over’. We’ve had an incredible time on the road so far, playing shows and meeting our amazing community. We can’t wait to see you all again in what is sure to be a momentous summer.”
The fast-rising young band performed a sold out UK and European tour earlier this year, and are now on their first ever North American headline tour performing 20 shows across the USA and Canada which sold out 25,000 tickets in just two minutes. The new dates follow Lovejoy’s first ever shows both in the UK and USA last year (all selling out in seconds) highlighting their huge fanbase, which includes 30 million fans across their social channels and 800 million global streams.
Ahead of the release of the EP, the band recently took part in Spotify’s Our Generation fan event and recorded two tracks for the Spotify Singles series including a stripped back version of ‘Call Me What You Like’ and a cover of Beabadoobee’s ‘The Perfect Pair’.
The band released their debut EP ‘Are You Alright?’ in May 2021 including the single ‘One Day’, which currently boasts over 114 million streams on Spotify alone and continues to climb. They quickly followed up with ‘Pebble Brain’ in October 2021 – a second EP comprising of seven tracks which debuted at Number 12 on the official UK Album Chart based on streaming alone.

I updated my Zora lineup from 2021 with the new TotK characters (and added the AoC guys too while I was at it).
To my knowledge these are all the named NPCs across the three games who use the generic adult male Zora model. I liked the idea of giving them more personality and trying to figure out unique features, all while staying faithful to the model (so no accessories, body modification etc).
female NPCs | elders and kids | unique characters
More details on each character (all 14) under the cut:
Ahrt Secro and Ettu are the merchants that exist only as character portraits, but I decided to count them as individual NPCs regardless. I made an exception in "no accessories" rule for Ahrt Secro here, because of his... unconventional name (and him living in Goponga instead of the Domain); he's justified in not following their fashion standards. Ettu's only character trait iirc is that he dislikes plants. Which make up most of his stock. Rip.
Kayden is the oldest non-elder Zora guy (140ish?), calm, responsible, etc. He's an another accessory exception, with the little belt attachment. He's married and it's the "zora armor" he got from Kodah. I like to imagine that non-royal Zora women also propose with "armor", just bit more budget friendly - a single accessory or a piece of jewelry.
Capelo has basically no personality, his only few lines point to him being older and somewhat responsible. So I put him here and made him... idk, look big and serious.
Bazz! He's perfectly average when it comes to height and looks, but visibly more buff than most Zora guys. Also on the older side.
Rivan's whole thing is being Very Tall and Very Pretty. In my canon he's basically the most handsome guy in the Domain, with his long fins, smooth features and warm brown colored scales.
Ledo is like, the most average guy you've ever seen. He looks younger than he is but has no special features otherwise. Surprisingly level headed. Not very fit (for Zora standards).
Tie is another one of the new undercharacterized TotK guards, his only thing being that he complains about being out of shape. I think I like his design the least, but come on, I had nothing to work with here.
Numien, the only new guy who actually had more than two lines, all of them making him the most annoying prick in my eyes. He's just... too enthusiastic and eager to praise his superiors. I like to imagine Bazz despises him for being such a kissass (Bazz is canonically pretty judgemental) but can't do much about it. The guy is competent enough to be put in charge of the Lookout Landing squad after all. Anyway, I did my best to make him look at least a bit unhinged.
Fronk, the only man in the domain whose eyebags could compete with Bazz's, courtesy of his airhead wife Mei. He's also wearing the "zora armor" she gave him.
Resco wins the prize for least characterization. His only single trait is that he admires Gaddison. That's it. So I made him try to emulate her energy in his lineup pose.
Cleff, the shopkeeper with crab obsession. One of the prettier younger guys, although the crab thing is not working in his favor. The last one of fully adult guys in the lineup (around 90ish).
Gruve is, amusingly, the one sole unemployed Zora guy. His occupation is therefore officially, A Problem. He's very much the tall lanky teenager type.
And Tottika, another tall lanky teenager (70ish), but this time with a job. It's not canon, but he's commonly considered a twin brother of Torfeau and I quite like this idea. He's not the smartest but tries his best.
That's it, thanks for reading if you did! Next up are the ladies, which I have sketched out but not colored yet. Also I'm still pondering if I want to do elders and kids, just for the sake of having all the Zora properly catalogued...

The Telegraph finally focuses on the Unsussexfuls & Misan Harriman's Photogate. 📸 🤥 📸The attacks on Catherine are hypocritical and disproportionate. When will media examine other past obviously botched photoshopped Sussex 📸s with the same scrutiny?
Original article link: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2024/03/13/meghan-pregnancy-photo-claim-doctored-willow-tree/
Archive link: https://archive.is/2024.03.13-095528/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2024/03/13/meghan-pregnancy-photo-claim-doctored-willow-tree/
The OSINT work of this sub has presented evidence of the botched edited Sussex photos for years. The media, both 🇬🇧 and 🇺🇸, have continued to ignore OBVIOUS deceit on part of the Sussexes and their minions, Liebrows Scobie and Misan Harriman. The media is complicit is Sussex 📸 scams. Major news outlets have continually propped up Sussexes lies by pushing their revisionist history via lies in articles and obviously edited images. 🕵️‍♀️
See link to Negative_Difference4's previous posts about the edited Sussex willow tree pregnancy announcement photo and other discrepancies in pinned comment.
Excerpts: One of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s own official portraits is said to have been edited with the insertion of a large willow tree.
The claim prompted accusations of hypocrisy after a source close to the Sussexes criticised the Princess of Wales, insisting that Meghan would “never” make a picture editing mistake and would have been “annihilated” for releasing a doctored family portrait.
However, an image released to accompany the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy with her daughter Princess Lilibet on Valentine’s Day 2021 appears to have been heavily doctored, amid suggestions that a large willow tree was edited into the shot.
Mr Harriman took the picture with an iPad from his home in London and it was shared with no indication that it had been digitally altered. In 2022, he was asked during an appearance on BBC Radio 3 podcast Private Passions how he had created the photograph and admitted: “It’s amazing what you can do with technology.”
The presenter asked him: “They weren’t actually under a willow tree, they were lying outside in a meadow, weren’t they, Harry and Meghan, when you took the photograph of them?”
Mr Harriman said the image was his “most famous virtual shoot” as he described how he had used technology that allowed him to communicate with the Sussexes and tell them how to pose, before he remotely “pressed the shutter button” thousands of miles away.
‘Sussexes’ camp are hypocrites’
Angela Levin, Prince Harry’s biographer, told The Sun: “The Sussexes’ camp are huge hypocrites.”
A tree was doctored in their photograph to create a special backdrop so how dare their camp say anything about Catherine’s?”
THIS PART IS HILARIOUS!!!*🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Meghan spoke about her dislike of having certain features airbrushed out of photographs after posing for a People magazine cover in 2017.“
To this day, my pet peeve is when my skin tone is changed and my freckles are airbrushed out of a photoshoot,” she said.
😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶😶
There is no suggestion the Sussexes edited the photograph themselves.
A spokesman for the couple has denied commenting about the Princess’s picture. post link: https://ift.tt/gXdz5qD author: wontyield submitted: March 13, 2024 at 12:20PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. Kehinde Wiley - An Archaeology of Silence
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Archaeology of Silence is the namesake of this piece, arguably the most breathtaking of the collection. For whiteness in general and white America specifically, the piece is a mirror, an entanglement of glory and suffering, discovery and erasure, settlement and displacement. For Indigenous and Black America it is a symbol of futures that allow us to look to the past to move forward. It is a relic of our origin story, an artifact of our epistemology, and where should it live if not in museums? Where else could our suffering be looked upon with honor and quiet reflection, with reverence and respect?

Kehinde Wiley (b. 1977, Los Angeles) is an American artist best known for his portraits that render people of color in the traditional settings of European Old Master paintings. Wiley’s work brings art history face-to-face with contemporary culture, using the visual rhetoric of the heroic, the powerful, the majestic and the sublime to celebrate Black and Brown people the artist has met throughout the world. Working in the mediums of painting, sculpture, and video, Wiley’s portraits challenge and reorient art-historical narratives, awakening complex issues that many would prefer to remain muted.
n 2018, Wiley became the first African American artist to paint an official US presidential portrait for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery after former US president Barack Obama selected Wiley for this honor. In 2019 Wiley founded Black Rock Senegal, a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program that invites artists from around the world to live and create work in Dakar, Senegal.

Crowley Fact Sheet
Tumblr media
(Did not rank in a combination of seven different character-ranking surveys held throughout 2021)
Name: Dire Crowley Role: Headmaster Age: unknown Height: 185cm (taller than Vil/Idia/Crewel, same height as Leona, shorter than Sebek) Homeland: Unknown Hobby: Traveling Favorite food: Wild game meat
According to the official fanbook Crowley’s first name, Dire, has been retconned to be pronounced as “Dia” in order to be closer to “Diablo”, the name of Maleficient’s bird in the original Sleeping Beauty movie. I also came across a fan theory that the name “Crowley”, might be both a reference to Diablo and to early 20th century English occultist, magician, poet and painter Aleister Crowley, but this is unconfirmed.
Crowley hires the player to fill the role of “beast master” and keep Grim in check after being impressed by the player’s ability to goad Ace, Deuce and Grim into working together to take out a monster in the prologue of the game. In return, the player is permitted to live in the abandoned “Ramshackle” dormitory on campus.
Tumblr media
While Crowley insists that he is still searching for a way to send the player back to the world from whence they came (claiming that it is all he thinks about when he sleeps and eats), it is difficult to tell how much effort he is actually putting towards this goal.
Crowley has explained that he likes shiny objects like gems and precious metals, and thus the mirrors that he carries about on his person.
In other voice lines he says that he wipes down the frames of the portraits of the Great Seven in his office everyday, watches Spelldrive tournaments on television late at night and that he does not like spicy food.
He has also said that, “To create whatever magic you wish to produce, you need imagination. Some mages say that they practice drawing and writing in order to strengthen their ability to make their imaginations more concrete”.
Crowley often meets with Trein for tea, but has said that Lucius makes him uncomfortable and he is not very good with cats. Despite this apparent camaraderie with Trein, he was once ten seconds late to a meeting and Trein lectured him for ten minutes as punishment.
He says that while he greets every student he sees every morning, sometimes they ignore him, but he doesn’t mind as it is part of being an adult.
He often leaves difficult situations and problems up to the school’s students to handle rather than facing them himself, claiming that it is to cultivate their independence; the students, by and large, do not trust him as a result.
Tumblr media
Crewel describes Crowley as being very busy and always hurrying off to deal with one issue or another, but it is unclear what he is actually up to most of the time. It is commented during the Halloween event that he seems to have secrets that he would prefer the police not know about.
He seems to have a soft-spot for money, receiving a portion of Azul’s profits from Mostro Lounge and—according to Jamil—arranging for Kalim’s belated enrollment in the school in exchange for large monetary donations from Kalim’s father.
On the other hand, in the Port Fest event half of the profits earned by the student food stalls are donated to Crane Port, and Crowley arranges for the remaining half to be divided amongst the students themselves (at Azul’s request).
Crowley's voice actor Miyamoto has been voice acting since before many of us were born. He was inspired by a favorite TV show to become a teacher, but failed to acquire a teaching license.
In a 2014 interview he said, ‘I would love to play a villain or eccentric role that is far removed from myself, like Tim Curry in "The Rocky Horror Show’.”
He is the voice of adult Simba in the Japanese-language-dub of Disney's The Lion King, the voice of Soma Ayame in the original release of Fruits Basket, Roger Smith in The Big O, Hubb Lebowski in WOLF'S RAIN, Jean Croce in GUNSLINGER GIRL, Maiza Avaro in BACCANO! and other characters in over 170 other anime series, OVAs and video games.

"Confederate monuments bear what the anthropological theorist Michael Taussig would call a public secret: something that is privately known but collectively denied. It does no good to simply reveal the secret — in this case, to tell people that most of the Confederate monuments were erected not at the end of the Civil War, to honor those who fought, but at the height of Jim Crow, to entrench a system of racial hierarchy. That’s already part of their appeal. Dr. Taussig has argued that public secrets don’t lose their power unless they are transformed in a manner that does justice to the scale of the secret. He compares the process to desecration. How can you expect people to stop believing in their gods without providing some other way of making sense of this world and our future?
Swords Into Plowshares might have been the first to propose melting, but other communities are working out their own creative visions for Lee’s afterlife. One of the biggest changes so far has been at Arlington House, the historic plantation mansion at the center of Arlington National Cemetery, which is the official national Robert E. Lee Memorial. In 2021, Arlington House reopened with displays not only about Lee’s family, who lived there after they inherited it from Lee’s father-in-law, but also about the lives of the families enslaved there. Even Lee’s burial site at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. — where he served as president after the war — has changed. The university decided to focus on Lee the civilian rather than Lee the general, for example by moving a prominent portrait of him in uniform. And it constructed a wall to enclose the large sculpture of Lee that once claimed an insistent place in the university’s chapel.
Covering this story over the past few years, I’ve come to realize two things. First, when a monument disappears without a ceremony to mark why it is coming down, a community has no chance to recognize that it has itself changed. (Ideally the ceremony is public, but because of safety concerns, the melting I attended was not.) Second, if you are outraged that something’s happening to your community’s heroic statue of Lee, you’re not going to be any less outraged if the statue is moved to some hidden storeroom than if it’s thrown into a landfill. So if all changes, large or small, will be resisted, why not go for the ones with the most symbolic resonance?
That’s why the idea to melt Lee down, as violent as it might initially seem, struck me as so apt. Confederate monuments went up with rich, emotional ceremonies that created historical memory and solidified group identity. The way we remove them should be just as emotional, striking and memorable. Instead of quietly tucking statues away, we can use monuments one final time to bind ourselves together into new communities.
...
When the remaining legal barriers were cleared (including a last-minute lawsuit that sought to have the statue reassembled), Lee was finally ready to surrender to the furnace. The foundryman turned on the propane supply and laid Lee’s sword across the hole in the lid. He told the spectators that the metal had to get hot enough to release any moisture before he maneuvered it down through the hole into the crucible.
Tumblr media
When he did, its blade stuck up out of the furnace for a moment, then melted down “like a stick of butter,” as Dr. Schmidt put it.
Lee’s face was the last piece to go into the crucible. Given how often the monument and its ideals were celebrated with flames — from Klansmen’s torches to the tiki torches of white nationalists in 2017 — it seemed fitting for flames to close over the monument.
...
Dr. Douglas, Swords Into Plowshares’ other co-founder, apologized that the ceremony could not be public. She thanked those in attendance, telling us we were witnessing it on behalf of Charlottesville’s residents, including those long gone who lived under slavery. Someday, she said, when we think of Civil War heroes, we will imagine not Lee but, instead, those who fought for their freedom against him.
The man in the protective visor dropped the red-hot piece of metal that once represented Lee on the ground. It fell to pieces, which he fed into the crucible. A line of cameras faced him, making new images of history as the old image finally disappeared in flames.

This is.... sad. Funny.
Tumblr media
When the National Portrait Gallery in London reopens amid much fanfare later this month after a three-year, £35 million refurbishment, the eyes of the art world will be on its new public spaces, including a cocktail bar open late into the evening.
There will also be much discussion about which pictures among the quarter of a million owned by the gallery have been chosen to be put on public display.
But among the pictures that will remain hidden from view is one of the better regarded royal portraits of recent years.
The gallery will not say why the picture has not been included in the hang for the official opening, but both the gallery and Kensington Palace say that the decision was not at the request of the palace.
Tumblr media
However, questions are being asked in art circles about why a picture of great contemporary interest, and one which is seen as being of considerably higher quality than many modern royal portraits, is no longer available to be seen by the public.
A gallery spokeswoman said: “Decisions relating to the portraits on display at the National Portrait Gallery are made by the gallery’s curatorial team. With over 250,000 portraits in our collection, we are only able to display a small percentage within our building, however, as one of the world’s largest and most important collections of portraits, we regularly lend and tour our works, both nationally and internationally. This portrait by Nicky Philipps was included in a touring exhibition — Tudors to Windsors — which travelled between 2018 and 2021. The portrait was last displayed at the gallery between March and August 2018.”
When Philipps was commissioned by the gallery, the original plan was for her to paint the princes at Clarence House. However she did not like the light — all the suitable rooms were south-facing — and she “threw my toys out of the pram” and asked if they would come to her home in South Kensington.
She told the Sunday Times last year: “Before their first visit, a policeman arrived to look around. William and Harry sat for five sessions of one-and-a-half hours each — three times together, twice separately. They’d arrive in full Blues and Royals mess kit, complete with swords and spurs, and my neighbours never noticed a thing.”
Harry was perched on the edge of a table, while William leaned against a pillar. “They were looking at each other, talking and laughing. William was very much the protective elder brother, straightening Harry’s belt. It was perfect, so I asked them to stay that way. They were both utterly charming, quick-witted and great fun. Harry was a very different man back then. I suppose my painting has acquired historic significance.”
Hell, Henry has always been an idiot.
When Harry was shown a photograph of the painting during a visit to Barbados that year, he said: “I don’t know, I’m a little bit more ginger in there than I am in real life, I think. And he got given more hair. Apart from that, it is what it is. But, no, it’s nice. It could have been worse.”
