wish you the best / john stones
Tumblr media
part of the "broken by desire to be heavenly sent" series, can be read as an stand-alone.
mentions of: confusing relationship, friends to strangers to lovers, single dad!john, lily stones (oc), rúben dias and jack grealish, winning the epl (after the chelsea game), alcohol and the consumption of.
wc: 2.4k.
author's note: this is not proofread bc if i read it all over again i'll delete it all. turned to fluff at the last minute bc i broke my heart writing the first half. feedback is appreciated <333
summary: life was supposed to keep you two together, until his signing to city and, thus, his move to manchester, made it all fall down. right person, wrong time, some could say. or can they mend it, years down the line?
"i'll miss knowin' what you're thinkin' and hearin' how your day has been"
the fallout had been unexpected.
life had become inexplicably hectic for the both of you. ever since john signed to manchester city, thus moving away from your good old barnsley, and you started college, it had become harder and harder to find time for each other. and it's not like you didn't want to: there was nothing you wanted more than to see your best friend again, to be in his arms, to bask in his sunshine-like presence. but it seemed like the time was never right.
it would have been a lie to say you two were just friends, when you were way more. it just didn't have any specific title yet. it was all so new, at least for you two: your families had seen it from a mile away, and couldn't be more happy about it. you knew he was it for you, just as you were it for him. but maybe, that's the problem with friendships that have the potential to evolve into something more. if it goes wrong, you lose the one who you could talk about how your day has been, the only one capable of picking up the pieces when life gets too rough, the one who knows how to paint a smile on your face.
it's the dark side of the moon, as some would say.
if it goes wrong, you don't only lose a potential lover, but a friend.
"i barely see y/n anymore…" john's mum pointed, doubtful, one sunday evening when her son and her were sharing some tea. janet didn't miss the way john shifted uncomfortably in his seat, which seemed to be too small now for his 6 foot frame. "something happened between you two?". and even if he tried to answer truthfully, he truly didn't know. to him, it felt like one moment you were there, by his side, always cheering him on, and the next, when he turned to look for you, you were gone. "wish i knew, mum".
"do you think you can tell me everything, darling? but leave out every part about him"
your family and his were always close.
at first, it was a blessing: you two had grown ever closer because of it, and you were invited to any event held in the stones household, just as he -and his family- was invited to yours. the nights where both your families enjoyed together were your favorites: from the food, to the table games, to spending so much quality time together.
soon enough, though, it turned out to be a nightmare.
your absence when john came back to visit was loud. your cheerful laugh and vibrant presence were missing, and janet, john's mum, couldn't help but notice that, coincidentally, you disappeared when he came back.
everything felt wrong for john. even getting into his house when he came back from training, absolutely drenched from the rain that just didn't stop coming, didn't make him feel better. he realized that the only place where he really wanted to be was home; but, not his place, rather, his childhood home. so he did what he knew best: get back in the car and drive there, no matter the pouring rain outside or that he would need to be back in just a couple hours to continue with his routine.
"oh, you just missed y/n!" was the first thing his mother said to him when she opened the door. she must have recognised his car pulling up, because he hadn't warned them before his arrival. "she was here just a couple hours ago," janet said, untangling her arms from around his son, and now focusing on his deflated face. "what is it, darling? did you hear the news?".
he frowned at that, a clear question sign painted on his face. "what news?".
his mom looked around for answers, clearly uncomfortable after facing the reality that you and him must have fallen out pretty bad if you weren't telling him such drastic changes. "i'm so sorry, i thought she had told you before… i'm so sorry, honey…" she tried to mend, but it was to no avail. john wouldn't let it go without knowing what the news concerning you was, and his frown only increased when his older sister walked into the room.
"she's moving to LA, got someone waiting for her there apparently" jenny announced, and it felt like a gut punch. he tried to fake a smile, show everyone around how happy he was that you were achieving your dreams, since you always told him you wanted to go to the US. the part of you having someone there waiting for you, though, was his problem; just when he, finally, had realized what was missing in his life was you, now you were the one leaving.
"right now you're probably by the ocean, while i'm still out here in the rain. with every day that passes by since we've spoken it's like glasgow gets further from LA"
john couldn't help but feel stuck.
it had been three years since he had seen you last, and still, he couldn't avoid the what ifs. what if he had brought you with him to manchester in the first place, what if he had confessed what he truly felt for you sooner, instead of letting it float in the air. he knew there was something special; there was no other way of describing it. john wished he did more, before it was too late. he felt like, apart from his football career, which was going great,  nothing had gone his way. he tried to mend his broken heart with shallow relationships which never went far. and the one that did, left him even more heartbroken, and in charge of an eighteen month little girl that was a carbon copy of him, which he loved dearly.
but still, every little good thing that happened, he found himself thinking about sharing them with you. you, who he only saw on social media when you dared to post a snippet about your life across the atlantic ocean. you, who never responded to any of his text, or messages to make casual conversation, apart from the automatic 'happy birthday!' wishes.
"well, i can't help but notice you seem happier than ever now"
social media was never a place he liked to spend his time on. his instagram profile only contained pictures of matches and was used solely for his job; couldn't be farther away from jack, who seemed to post absolutely everything he did, or even rúben, his best mate, with his classic "thirst trap photos" -as jack had joked once- that only gained him laughs amongst the team. but he always had someone for the parties to attend, or the events held by the club, so it must be working, thought john.
he didn't want to admit how many hours he spent there now, scrolling through your profile, waiting for you to post something. it was weird to only see you across a screen now, after years and years of being almost glued together. it was weird seeing you smile that same grin that only he could get out of you, how your eyes crinkled up how they did when john made a joke that made you fold in half. these memories seemed a lifetime away now, and john wondered if you, sometimes, remembered him, or if it was just all in his head.
maybe you had meant more to him than he meant to you.
maybe that's why it was so easy to leave the place you two called home, without even talking to him in the first place. but again, he had left you to go to manchester. so, did you really owe him something? you didn’t think so.
"i wanna say i miss the green in your eyes, and when i said we could be friends, guess i lied"
seeing his daughter grow into the prettiest little girl was the absolute joy of john’s life: nothing could top that. not even the possibility of man city winning the treble, or you returning unexpectedly onto his life one good saturday morning.
"john?".
he hates that he knows exactly who's the one that pronounced his name without needing to turn around, but still, he can't doesn't seem to have the strength to actually face you. it's not until you place your ever so soft hand on his shoulder, that he turns, as he fakes surprise. "y/n, is it really you?". he feels dumb even saying it, because of course it is.
seeing you again was strange for john. it felt like you were a completely different person. but still, something familiar ignited inside of him, and he hates to know that you've still got that effect on him. but seeing john after all these years was strange to you, too. seeing the little girl hanging on his hips, even more. "hello to you too, little one, what’s your name?" you ask, in the sweetest voice you can conjure, and john has to remind himself to breathe deep.
“lily” you can hear her say, although it sounds muffled by the man’s hoodie, due to her hiding her face away on his neck, shyly. her dad runs his big hand back and forth on her little back, in a reassuring way, while whispering in her hair, “she’s daddy’s old friend from back home, you don’t have to be nervous around her, pretty girl”.
you smile at her when she peeps with her little eyes back to see you, and you can help but admire her soft, green eyes. they never failed to remind him of yours, so gentle and loving, but that’s not something you needed to know. that he saw you in her, more than he saw her biological mother. he’s not even sure if that’s the truth, anyways, or what his brain tricks him to think. unknowingly to him, you’re wondering about the little girl’s mom, too. she’s the carbon copy of john, so he’s for sure her father, but you can’t help but wonder where her mum is, when there’s not a trace of the woman, at least, not at john’s side.
your thoughts are interrupted by your old friend’s familiar voice. "do you, are you…?" john didn't have the words for what he needed to say. he wanted to ask if you were back for good, but the words escaped. "back?” you complete, as if you had never lost the ability to read into his mind, no matter the time that has passed or the distance that keep you apart all this time.
"i wanna say i wish that you never left, but instead i only wish you the best".
john felt like his heart could jump out of his chest.
it wasn't just the rush of adrenaline after entering the pitch on the minute 57, or the ball he had practically saved from getting to the back of the net, which would have been the equalizer for chelsea. it was, rather, for a certain message he got before the match started.
wish you the best today, john! you’ll kill it xx
the fans invading the pitch after the final whistle, and thus, the obtention of the fifth premier league won by the blue team, made the task of looking for you in the stands just a little bit harder. he knew where his family was -in his box at the etihad, as they always were when they came to see him-, but they didn’t know whether if you had joined them, or if you were on your own. or if you were even at the stadium.
“mate, you just won the premier league for the fifth time, three times in a row. where is your head?”. and rúben was right; john was checking his phone nonstop, clearing up his notifications if the message didn’t have your name on it. “yeah, you’re right. i’m waiting for a friend to tell me if she’s here or not”. jack chimes in once he hears the female pronoun. “why don’t we get to the pitch then, johnny boy?” he says, as he helps his friends with a glass full of a dark liquid that john quickly recognizes as rum and coke once the alcohol hits his throat, and it's the liquid courage he needs to make his way outside with the rest of his teammates.
soon enough, after they are given their medals, and the trophy’s lifted, the family members are allowed to get onto the pitch, to celebrate their loved ones. at first, john’s a bit disoriented, not being able to see his family on the usual spot, but his worries vanish when he feels a gentle tug on his shorts, and he lowers his gaze to see lily smiling widely at him.
he lifts the little girl effortlessly, like she weighed less than a feather. “were you looking for someone, daddy?” lily asks with her sweet, little voice, and john has to wipe away the little voice screaming your name from his mind. it’s not the first time you’re not here, but it is the first time you’re in the country, which explains why he’s so bummed out about you not being by his side, once again. “just for you, princess,” he says, and it isn’t a lie, but it isn’t the whole truth, either. “did you run over here on your own? where is your grandma?”.
the little girl giggles mischievously at the same time john sees his mum, and he grins. but his smile only gets bigger when he thinks he’s able to see you, right by his mom’s side, like the old times. john isn't quite sure it isn't a part of his imagination: his desire to see you again, wearing his man city jersey, conjuring your figure at the etihad. but your smile is so big, he doesn't think his brain could be able to pull off such a beautiful sight. and then, when you're close enough, his arm locks around your waist, drawing you in, and all is complete. still, he needs to make sure, muttering a small "you're here" on your hair when he gives you a side hug, that you melt into completely.
"well, had to come cheer for the best player on the pitch, no?” you say, while patting his back lovingly, although he doesn’t let you go. he remains holding lily with his left arm, who is too interested in watching how moonchester and moonbeam, the two city mascots, run around the pitch causing havoc. “five for number 5. you're the best, john!” you gush, and his cheeks turn a soft pink, so he looks to the floor in an attempt at hiding his lovesick stare. "well, this one is the most special to me" he confesses, and whether he means it due to how man city snatched the lead in the final stint of games to win the league, or due to your familiar presence by his side, it doesn’t matter. the look you give confirms that you know what john means, like you always did, and that you feel the same.

i hadn't written for bloomic in a hot sec and the first one back was onionthief? ignore that this is being posted after quest djskgls. anyway it is onion boy's birthday so therefore today u are all onion enjoyers bc them's the rules. in celebration have something from the dusty corners of my brain bc onion deserves a little happy as a treat. also bc it gives me an excuse to write bloomic fic again hehe. is this also a little self indulgent bc i want more soft onion content? oh most definitely but that's basically my entire tumblr at this point lmao. and now i guess i go hibernate until quest's birthday goodbye gamers and enjoy the cute onion vibes.
Onion always found this time of year to be his favourite. The passing of summer meant long gone were the painfully hot days and in their place was a persistent breeze that left the tip of his nose and ears permanently flushed a slight tinge of pink from the cold. But he gladly took the chill over humid days stuck inside while working on some summer college project. As the autumn weather crept closer, he felt far more at home. It also happened to be the same time as his birthday, an occasion that Onion was not overly fond of. It wasn't that he disliked the day or what it signified, but he also didn't particularly care about it either. Every year was the same routine, go home to visit his family, eat enough cake to leave him so tired of it that he wouldn't want another slice until his birthday the following year, and then he'd take himself off to his room to finish work for his upcoming semester classes. This year he'd expected to be no different until a certain someone had found their way into the Blooming Panic server he'd also frequented in the last few years. Meeting you had altered many things in Onion's life, his priorities suddenly shifting the closer the two of you became. It took him some getting used to, sharing so much of himself with another. But as his birthday neared, Onion was coarsing with an excitement like no other he'd felt at this time of year.
Due to an unfortunate class schedule, he'd had to delay plans of going home to spend time with his family. It wasn't ideal, but he knew he could cope with the change when he made plans to spend the night on a call with you. After all, what better way to celebrate his birthday than with the person he cares for most? Throughout the entire day he operated on what felt like sheer muscle memory. His mind was elsewhere, drifting away to thoughts of you when he really should have been taking notes. One day of inattention was worth it. But what had started as pure, unadulterated excitement and anticipation soon became restless concern. By now he usually would've seen a message or two displayed on his phone of you sharing what you'd eaten for lunch that day or a photo of you spending time with a friend. Those frequent daily updates were what kept Onion motivated throughout the day—little reminders of affection to combat the physical distance that impeded your relationship. He noticed their absence like a gaping hole in his chest. What started as occasional glances became frequent scrolling of any place you might message, just in case he'd missed something. That was, until the professor noticed his blatant distraction and directly called upon him to pay more attention. Onion's face turned bright red as he pocketed the phone, adamant he wouldn't look until the end of the day. Maybe you were just busy. Or your phone had ran out of battery because you'd forgotten to charge it the night before. While unlikely, these things did happen. And that thought was the only string of thread holding him back from imagining far worse scenarios.
The remainder of the day passed by in a blur, Onion's thoughts half on his classes and half drifting elsewhere, wondering what you might be doing. He hated how clingy he felt, silently willing his phone to buzz with a new message. But every time it happened and he lunged to look at the screen, disappointment would mar his features when he saw yet another ridiculous message from Nightowl or Xyx. The two, it seemed, had been scheming of all the ways they could bother Onion on his birthday. Any other day he would entertain them both with snarky replies and teasing quips but today his heart just wasn't in it. Truthfully all he wanted at this point was to get home and let himself wallow in uncharacteristic self pity for an hour before calling his family and going to bed. His journey home was uneventful as the rest of the day had been, weariness tugging on Onion's limbs as he finally made it past the threshold of his apartment door; his shoes and jacket were gone in an instant, the bag of textbooks dumped unceremoniously on the floor as he made a beeline for his bedroom. He was lying with his face buried in a pillow when his phone buzzed once more in his pocket with incoming birthday messages from the server members, all excited and asking about his plans. Onion scrolled through and sent half-hearted replies, trying to ignore the bitter taste in his mouth when he saw you weren't online and that you hadn't been online all day. He knew it was irrational to be so affected by the possibility that you were busy. But on his birthday? Maybe you'd forgotten, or maybe you were just waiting until he got home from class to see how he was doing.
Before Onion could let his mind dwell on it much longer, he decided to bite the bullet and just text you to see how you were doing. It couldn't hurt, after all, and it would only serve to ease his mind whenever you replied. Onion waited with baited breath as he started at the screen, watching the 'delivered' message turn to 'seen'. He bolted upright with his phone in hand as he waited for an incoming reply that never came. So were you just ignoring him? Was this some mean joke you were playing on him, spurred on by Nightowl or Xyx perhaps? As he was about to toss his phone across the room, a knock sounded at the door. Onion debated just ignoring it and taking a nap but the responsible side of his brain took over and had him dragging himself to answer the door. When he opened it and registered who was stood before him, Onion felt the breath leave his lungs. He'd expected it to be one of his neighbours asking to borrow something or complain about the noisy neighbour down the hall. Never in a thousand years would he have thought he'd see you stood there, beaming with unbridled joy at the genuine surprise on his face.
"Bet you didn't expect this, did you?" You teased, walking past Onion into his apartment as he moved to the side, still stunned by your appearance. Waving a hand in front of him, you laughed as he blinked and his eyes refocused on you.
"What are you doing here?" The question was so genuine, the shock still stinging his fingertips as they instinctively pushed the door closed while Onion's eyes did not leave yours for even a second.
"Last time I checked it was someone's birthday. Kind of an important day, don't you think? Not something I'd really want to miss," you reply as you set down the small suitcase of clothes you'd brought along to stay for the week. "Sorry I didn't text earlier. I wanted to but with the flight and getting over here there wasn't really much time. Plus I didn't want to ruin the surprise."
Onion nodded, everything finally weaving into something that made sense. "Yeah, no danger in that, babe. I was starting to think you'd forgotten me," he added, his voice humourous and joking as he pulled you in close, hands gentle in their approach. Despite how relaxed he tried to seem, it was clear there had been a genuine worry swimming in his thoughts at your silence.
Reaching a hand to cup his cheek, you whispered. "I'd never forget you. Not this birthday or any birthday after this one. You're too special to me."
Tears collected in Onion's eyes as he cleared his throat, moving away so that you wouldn't notice. "Did you eat on the plane? Or do you want to order something in?"
"Ah, ah no subject changing, sir. It's your birthday and therefore it's Onion appreciation hours."
The deadpan look he offered was devoid of any amusement, a pure pretense so as to hopefully escape your honeyed words of adoration that always made him blush. While he certainly loved to hear it, knowing you'd be able to see, and poke fun, at how flustered he really became around you was a mortifying thought. "No. Food. What do you want."
"You're no fun," you pouted, playfully poking his arm before turning to the bags sitting at your feet. "But there's no need to order anything because I'm the bestest partner ever and already picked a little something up on the way here! So you better sit your ass on the couch and eat up before it gets cold."
"You sound like my mom." Despite his complaining, Onion followed your instruction and took up his usual spot in front of the laptop he always kept on the coffee table for late night watching over dinner. It didn't take long for the substantial mass of food to become little more than a small box of leftovers for the following day. Onion was now sunk back into the sofa, an arm lazily hanging around your shoulder with his glasses left on the table. It was rare to see him not wearing them. So much so that he had slight indentations on the side of his nose that were a shade paler than the rest of his face. His eyes were closed, long lashes brushing the very tops of his cheeks as he tried to fight off the sleepiness.
"You're so adorable," you sighed, fingers tangling themselves in his dark hair as you admired him.
He didn't move nor open his eyes to reply. "I don't have the energy to fight you on this right now but know that I would if I did." His voice was lower and his words ever so slightly slurred with the tiredness that crept closer the longer he remained still in his spot on the sofa. It took everything in you not to snap a picture and post it in the server. They knew you were with Onion but even in his satiated sleepiness, he'd still not appreciate them seeing him like this. Though the temptation to pull out your phone and take a picture of his sleepy smile was too pressing and within seconds the image was set as your phone background.
"Don't think I don't know what you're doing," Onion murmured, opening one eye to glare at you though you knew without his glasses you were an unfocused image to him right now.
"If you want to change it, then come and get it," you teased as you stood from the sofa, waving your phone in front of you. Onion's smile grew and he reached for his glasses. However he didn't follow you in rising from the seat and instead leaned back again, a burst of energy spurring his infectious smile.
"Nah. I'll let you keep it. So long as you let me take one of you too." He pondered for a moment, eyes trailing over you still standing. "Or actually..." Onion leaned forward, hand reaching for your wrist as he pulled you in and catching you in his embrace. His lips were warm against yours, a kiss that had your thoughts spinning as it stole your breath away. Then a small camera shutter sounded but the sudden absence of Onion's lips was all you could think about.
His eyes dragged slowly from your lips up to your eyes, surveying every inch of your flushed face. "Perfect." Onion lifted his spare hand, thumb gently dancing over your bottom lip as you remained transfixed under his gaze.
"Hey, guess what," he whispered, voice quiet yet the only sound you could ever wish to hear in that moment.
"What?"
"I love you." Onion punctuated the confession with another gentle kiss, proclaiming all the words and emotion that lingered in his heart that he couldn't quite say. Sometimes actions speak louder than words, and for Onion, the softness with which he held your face shouted and screamed all the unspoken feelings that flooded every vein of his body; an all-consuming and ever present adoration that he doubted he'd ever be able to truly put into words. The words were never strong enough, never good enough, to accurately depict all that he felt every time he looked at you, touched you, heard your voice calling his name. To even think that he could regard someone like you in this manner felt like some dream promising him a lifetime of eternal happiness. And it was a dream he intended to hold onto, for as long as you reached for his hand.

Tumblr media
A/N: just another cute idea i had because i’m obsessed with barbarian/dragon king!bakugo and fantasy shit in general. some context: you and bakugo are betrothed—although, sometimes you wish you weren’t bc he can be a real asshole. luckily for you, he’s willing to work on it bc he likes loves you just that much. a litte angst (it wouldn’t be a mtha story without it) but it ends in fluff <3
Warnings: cursing
Tumblr media
Your friends looked at their food with heart eyes and dug into the neatly wrapped box with fever.
“Ahh! Thank you for making this, Y/N!” one of them exclaimed. The other could only nod in agreement, too into your cooking to speak.
You smiled and waved them off. “It was nothing. Consider it a thank you for letting me copy the homework last night,” you chuckled.
“Did you cook one for Prince Bakugo? I’d imagine he’d love it! If there’s anyone’s cooking he loves more than his own, it’s yours!”
At the mention of his name, your expression fell. You looked down at the case of food you had prepared for him as an apology.
Four days ago, you two were hanging around his residence. You managed to get him to dance around with you. Well, it more like you were dancing and he was doing his best not to combust in embarrassment. Katsuki warned you that you shouldn’t be too reckless otherwise you’d break something.
Of course, you paid him no mind, too enthralled with your fun to notice your proximity to a nearby statue—one of the Bakugo family’s treasures.
One thing led to another, and you knocked it over, shattering it before either of you could even react. Your rich skin lost its glow and your boyfriend cursed something nasty.
Least to say, his parents were not happy. But instead of being rightfully scolded, Bakugo had taken the blame for it.
They found him attempting to clean it up and assumed it was his fault. You wanted to correct them, but he threw you a nasty glare, sealing your mouth shut. He was now under punishment until they deemed fit and from then on, he hadn't spoken a friendly word to you.
A little sigh escaped your lips. Your two friends looked at each other before offering you encouraging smiles.
“Hey,” one spoke, placing a hand on your knee. You met her gaze. “You should go give it to him. He’d love it.”
There was a moment of silence before you decided to act. Taking the spur of confidence, you stood up and briskly made your way to the other classroom. Just before you entered, you heard his voice and felt your heart waver with anxiousness.
However, now wasn’t the time to let doubt consume you. Things wouldn’t get better until something was done.
You took a deep breath, calming your nerves, before opening the door and walking in. Your eyes scanned the room and found the young dragon prince amongst his group of friends.
Jaw set, you walked over to them, hands firmly around the packaged food.
Kirishima saw you first and gave you a friendly wave.
“Hey Princess L/N!”
“Hi boys! How’re ya doing?” you politely asked, putting on your best smile.
They gave you an upbeat answer that lifted your spirits.
Despite that, you hadn't heard a response from Bakugo. In fact, he hadn't even looked at you—but you wouldn’t be disheartened. You fueled herself with faux confidence and held out the dish to your betrothed.
“I-I made you something small yesterday, as an apology,” you stuttered.
Katsuki finally looked up, indifference in his stare. Ruby eyes flickered down to the box filled with rice, chicken, vegetables, and a small pastry on the side. His favorite kind. For a moment, he seemed like considered your offer, but you suffered the low blow of humiliation when he turned away to look through the window.
“Thanks, but I’ve already eaten. Should’ve given it to me earlier.”
Something in your stomach fell. Crushing rejection blossomed up your throat with each passing second. His words were cold, harsh, and unforgiving. It might’ve been stupid, overdramatic even, but it hurt.
Heartbroken wasn’t even the word.
Your nose burned, eyes blurring before you could stop it. Your chest tightened with embarrassment. Luckily, you mustered enough strength to hold in whatever was threatening to crumble you.
“Oh,” you dumbly responded.
“I’ll take it!” Kaminari excitedly said.
“No, I will! I’m still starving!” Kirishima chided.
You placed the box down, struggling to keep up your act.
“Split it between the both of you. I hope it’s good!” You internally winced over how high your voice had become. “I’m gonna to get going now. I’ll see you guys after school, yeah?”
And before anything else was said, you bolted straight out of the room. You hadn’t bothered to look at Katsuki. Knowing him, he probably hadn't noticed the strain in your voice.
As soon as you were out of sight, the tears flooded. You held your hands against your mouth, desperate to muffle your cries. You quickly took you into the nearest bathroom and you prayed no one had seen you lest there be questions. If you went to your friends, it’d cause a commotion. Your parents would eventually find out and you didn’t want any more problems.
So, you cried your eyes raw and eventually willed yourself to stop when it was time to return to class.
The week had gone by without another interaction. The weekend brought you some relief since you wouldn’t be forced to see Katsuki’s face for the time being. Or so you thought.
All you wanted to do was run some errands for your parents and then go back home and continue sulking. Yet the universe would not let you rest.
The moment you caught Bakugo’s eyes, you pivoted on your heel and booked it the other way. You assumed his anger with you would force him to keep his distance.
But you were thoroughly surprised to find he was following after you.
“Y/N,” he called.
Irritation and hurt filled your chest. You only walked faster, clutching the purse against her chest.
“Y/N, stop,” he demanded to which you promptly ignored.
This went on for a good thirty seconds until Bakugo decided he had enough. Without much noise, he ran up to you, grabbing you by the shoulder.
You weren’t having it.
You harshly shrugged off his hand. “Don’t touch me,” you snapped, keeping your eyes forward.
“I need to talk to you,” Katsuki grumbled.
“Well I don’t want to talk to you. So maybe some other time.”
Truthfully, the crowned prince found himself shocked at your coldness. Despite your innate boldness, he wasn’t used to such an icy tone. Especially directed at him.
His father warned him to never attack in these situations, but Bakugo let his temper get the best of him. His first reaction was to frown and deal back harsher words.
“What’s your fucking problem, dumbass? When I say stop, stop!”
A spike of anger flooded your veins. You whirled around on your heel and glared at him with frosty eyes. You felt compelled to drop your papers and slap him, but instead, you settled for a finger in his face.
“First of all, I’m not some dog you can just order around, you jerk! And just because we’re betrothed doesn’t mean I’m some girl you can treat like dirt whenever you feel like it! Until you apologize, leave me alone because my only problem right now is you. Bye.”
And just as quickly as you came, you turned to leave.
Now Bakugo was actually stunned. Forget, cold, this was a side of you he hadn't ever experienced. Admittedly, he hadn’t been spoken to like that from anyone besides his mother—and she only got away with it because she was not only the queen…but he was his mom.
Katsuki honestly didn’t know how to handle it. It was only then that he concentrated back on his father’s advice. Whenever his mother was upset with his dad, his father would fight back, but never with emotional anger. Always with humbleness and an understanding tongue.
It usually did the trick considering his mother could never stay upset with him for more than a night. It always struck the teen with hidden awe. Sometimes, Katsuki thought his dad was an angel.
Bakugo was no angel, but he hoped it’d have the same affect on you.
The blonde teen softened his face and walked up behind you. He stopped you, wrapping his arms around your waist to lie his forehead against the decorated braids the fell down your back.
“Damn it. I’m sorry okay?” he lowly said, face burning from such a public display of affection. “Just hear me out.”
You didn’t speak and he clenched his jaw.
“Please.”
You inwardly cursed your rapidly beating heart. If it weren’t for how stupidly nice being in his arms was (he was definitely working out more), and the fact that you found him kinda cute begging for your permission, maybe you wouldn’t have caved in so easily.
For now, you’d blame it on the fact that you two were destined to wed. It was better to start dealing with fights now so, hopefully, the future held less of them.
You heaved a sigh, unwillingly ignoring your body’s urge to curl in his arms. Instead, you pulled away and turned to face him. You peered into unsure crimson eyes with as much harshness you could conjure.
“Fine. Speak,” you permitted.
There was a small pause as he gathered his thoughts. When he opened his mouth, you instantly regretted it.
“I’m still mad at you for being dumb and breaking one of family’s treasures. And I’m still fucking pissed that my old hag is on my ass about it,” he started and noticed how your eyes narrowed in contempt.
You were about to turn away, thinking this was a waste of time. However, Bakugo took a hold of your wrist before you could leave.
“Leave me alone! If you didn’t want to get in trouble, you should’ve just let me take the blame. I can't believe I thought you’d apologize—“
“Let me finish, princess.”
It was your title, yet you felt your stomach flip when it came from his lips. You refused to let it influence you…but you’d give him another chance.
Bakugo stepped closer to you. “I’m upset, but I took the punishment because I wanted to. You didn’t mean to break it. Accidents happen, I understand that.”
There was a pregnant pause. Then, you softened your gaze a bit, eyes still lit with inquiry. “Why? Why would you do that if it meant getting in trouble? I could’ve taken the blame just fine.”
“Y/N, you freak the fuck out whenever you don’t get a perfect score on an exam. You try not to mess up and when you do, it’s like the world is ending,” he explained with a teasing smirk. You ungracefully snorted. He had a point. “When you broke the vase, I could hear your heart drop. You were two seconds away from crying. And when I saw how scared you looked I just—I don’t know.”
The look on your face was something between shock, surprise, and wonder. You blinked, thick lips parting slightly in awe.
“Katsuki…” you breathed to which the boy heavily blushed. Realizing how sappy he sounded, his mind screamed at him to cut it out.
Bakugo looked down and noticed he was still holding your wrist. He quickly let go and instinctively rubbed the nape of his neck.
“D-don’t be dramatic. I just didn’t wanna see you moping around or some shit. My father said that it wasn’t that important anyway…the vase I mean,” he mumbled.
Sure it wasn’t, you thought. What were you gonna do with this boy?
You supposed an apology was a good start.
“That was very nice and admirable of you Katsuki. Thank you,” you eventually said. “I’m still really sorry about the vase, and for being mean to you just now.”
He shook his head. “I know, but I’m the one that should be apologizing. I ain’t hafta treat you the way I did. I was being an ass for not accepting the food you made for me earlier.”
“Yeah you were, ya bastard.”
He chuckled at that. “The two idiots wouldn’t stop raving over how good it was.”
“Well, I had the best teacher in the kingdom,” you grinned.
“And I had an even better student,” he winked.
Your smile widened. Maybe marrying him wouldn’t be so bad.
You couldn’t help yourself when you heartily embraced him, enjoying how his arms slowly slithered around the small of your back. Your eyes met and you kissed him on the lips, leaving him with a little gasp. You pulled away and giggled under your breath.
“You know, you're a sweet guy underneath all that false bravado.”
“False brav—what the hell are you going on about!?”
Ignoring his explosive behavior, you readjusted the straps on your shoulder before turning on your heel.
“Don’t bring anything for lunch on Monday, okay? I’ll see you later, blondie.”
Despite his little tantrum, Bakugo still watched you disappear into the store with a gentle expression. You gave him more headaches than he cared for, but you were worth it. Besides, he was sure you could say the same for him.
Bakugo turned to leave and passed his fingertips over where your lips touched his own.
He’d never admit to the giddiness in his chest. He’d take that shit to the grave.

I already had it all (Carla x reader)
Tumblr media
For @midnight-lestrange i hope you like it!
a/n: i didn't put the smut scene here because this was already too long. But let me know if you want me to write it!
a/n 2: I...I really didn't watch Ty's scenes. I just skipped them so, I'm sorry if this was OOC for him. But I won't apologise for anything else bc we all know Carla deserved a girlfriend.
#GiveCarlaAGirlfrendChallenge
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You rolled your eyes and sighed when Carla came into the house crying. You didn't even ask, you already knew the story.
Isis looked at her daughter, then at you and subtly took her grandson's arm to leave you two alone. Jackson didn't even bother to look at his mom as he got up. They said goodbye to you before disappearing into their rooms. You didn't turn to the woman until you saw Jackson close his door.
Carla looked at you for a moment, feeling like a stranger in her own home.
"What did he do now?" you said.
Usually, you'd run to her side, hug her, and let her cry for a while while she sobbed and told you whatever it was that made her fight with Ty at the time. God, how you hated that man.
Not only did he have an amazing woman like Carla at his feet, but he also had the door open for a beautiful (if a bit messy) family. And the only thing that seemed to matter to him was how good was his girlfriend in bed.
Hell, the guy hadn't even bothered to properly introduce himself to the son of the woman he was fucking!! Isis had told you how he had shown up at Christmas, making out with Carla while Jackson just waved from the table.
It made you want to throw up.
Although, the woman was not helping either. Carla was your best friend, she had been for years! She was the first to welcome you to the spa, the one who made you laugh at your worst and made you do stupid things when she took you to the bar.
You loved spending time with her.
But Ty...he had changed her. You didn't want to be unfair to him, but since he hadn't bothered to introduce himself to you either, you'd still hate him. Well...you would hate him even if he turned out to be a nice guy, because he had what you couldn't.
You weren't sure exactly when you started falling in love with your best friend, but you did. For months you had become aware of how much you loved her, how much you wanted to be with her at every possible moment, how butterflies flooded your stomach when you heard her laugh, how your cheeks would blush when you were too close to her. You loved everything about her.
And everything that came with the woman. You got along wonderfully with Isis, who was seriously trying to be a better mother to her daughter. And you couldn't even begin to describe the love you felt for Jackson. That boy was a treasure! And it broke your heart that most seemed to prefer to ignore him.
"Y/N, are you even listening to me?" Carla's voice brought you back to the present.
"No" you admitted, looking straight at her "Not really"
Carla looked at you as if you had grown another head. She didn't expect you to say that. The woman didn’t know what was happening with you lately, you were usually tender, kind and supported her in everything. But in the last few weeks, you have become more distant and cold.
Although only with her. It seemed that the further you got away from Carla, the closer you got to Isis. She didn't want to admit it, but she felt a pang of jealousy and fear that her mother was stealing her...her best friend. It didn't make a lot of sense, but...
"Break up with him" you said suddenly
"What?" she blinked
"Break up with Ty" you repeated "Carla, he's not good for you. He's hurting you."
"That is not true"
"Then why did you come crying?" you crossed your arms
"You would know if you had listened to me" she told you, crossing her arms too
"I'm not talking about just now and we both know it" you said "This has been going on for weeks Carla!"
"It's not true" she insisted
"It's a routine at this point. You go out with him, disappear for hours, Jackson calls me to go get him, I stay here until you come back with tears in your eyes, I listen to you, you ‘break’ with him for a few days and then he smiles and you fall again. We all know the routine Carla! Isis doesn't even risk burning the kitchen anymore! She just waits until I get home to make dinner"
"Mom dines with you?" she asked, feeling that terror and jealousy build up inside her.
"And with Jackson" you reminded her.
"Since when?"
"Since you started ditching them for Ty, but that's not the point!" you frowned "The point is that you are no longer you, Carla, and it's his fault"
"That is not true!" she growled "I'm as me as ever"
"No" you said to her "The Carla I knew loved herself, wanted to rebuild a relationship with her mother and loved her son above everything else. The Carla I knew made jokes about Jackson, but it was to prevent others from doing it. My Carla would never have let a man make her cry. "
The woman froze a bit when you called her "My Carla." The heat in her chest returned, like every time you said something nice about her.
"Y/N-"
"No" you interrupted her "You're going to listen to me Dunkler! Because I'm sick of seeing you arrive like this! I'm sick of that idiot using you for your body and you letting him. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he really feels something for you, but until he does a better job proving it, I won't change my mind. I'm also sick of seeing him take you away from your family. You said you wanted a better relationship with your mother, but Isis hasn't seen you properly in days. Ty hasn't even tried to get closer to Jackson, the SON of the woman he supposedly loves, to get to know him better! "
Carla looked at you in surprise. This was a whole new side. You have never lost your cool this way. And she hated herself for finding it a little hot.
"He's the only one who has really stayed with me for more than one night, Y/N" she said weakly. She knew it was a terrible reason, but it was the truth.
"So you will just let him do what he wants because you're afraid of being alone?!" you asked incredulous
"No! I-I really like him!" she said but it felt like a huge lie and that...that surprised her
"It's not fair Carla" you continued "It is not fair that you offer him all this! It is not fair that he has at his disposal a child as wonderful as Jackson and a mother-in-law as great as Isis. It is not fair that he has such a wonderful woman like you, a beautiful, hardworking and brave woman. He doesn't deserve you "
"You keep saying that because you don't know what it's like to be alone for so long! You don't know what it's like to feel like you're not enough for anyone!"
"I DO!" you yelled
"No you don't!" she yelled back at you "You are so perfect and cute and you have everyone at your feet! You can have whoever you want! So no, you don't know what it's like not to be enough for someone!"
"I do it because I've never been enough for you!" you growled "Because you've never seen me as anything more than a friend! And I hate you for that! I hate you because you come and flirt with me and then you go with him! I hate you because you gave him everything I've ever wanted! I hate him because he has what I can't have! AND I HATE YOU BECAUSE I CAN'T REALLY HATE YOU!! I HATE YOU BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN LOVE YOU AND YOU DON'T EVEN NOTICE IT!!!"
Carla froze in her place, staring at you. Her mind had gone blank. It took you a few moments to realize what you had said and you gasped as the realization hit you. You had confessed your feelings to her in the worst possible way. Shit.
"...I'd better go" you said hastily
You took your bag and took advantage of the fact that the woman still looked surprised to quickly pass her, almost running out of the house and to your car.
Carla just watched you go, not knowing what to do or what to think. What the fuck had just happened?
_________________
You cried all the way home. You cursed yourself a thousand times for being such an idiot. How could you do that? You had promised to always be there for her and now you had ruined everything! There was no way in the world that Carla could forgive you for this.

"Still here?" Isis asked, making her daughter jump "You've been staring at the wall for the last hour."
Carla frowned and turned her gaze away.
"Come on, get your fucking ass up and do something!" Isis insisted
"About what?"
"Oh don't play dumb with me. Jackson and I heard everything."
"What? Did you spy on us?" Carla asked a little angry
"Of course not! Your screams were heard throughout the house. I'm sure the neighbors heard too"
Carla blushed and looked at the ground before taking another gulp of her beer. Isis rolled her eyes and snatched it away.
"Ey!"
"Get out of here!"
Carla sighed "What do you want me to do? All that doesn't change anything"
"You're a terrible liar" the older woman scoffed "You've been drowning in your own misery since before I came back. You settled for that idiot just to not be left alone and now that you have a chance to have someone better, you will stay here getting drunk? I'm disappointed "
"Disappointed? It's something you would do yourself" Carla scoffed
"It's not true" Isis said, not bothered by her daughter's words "I would at least fuck her first"
"Mom!"
"What? She's pretty, she has a good body and-"
"Stop it! I don't need to hear my mother talk about how sexy my best friend is"
"Then pick up your sorry butt and go get her" she said, smiling at her daughter's jealous tone "You have the key to her house, use it"
"Mom-"
"I'll keep talking about her body if you don't. Did you know that she has a couple of moles near her right boobie? I loaned her a blouse once and-"
"And I'm leaving" Carla jumped up, taking her keychain
"I'm staying with Jackson, don't come back later" Isis winked
_____________________
You frowned when you heard the front door open. You were sure you had locked it. Your heart raced and you felt fear wash over you as you came out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around your body.
You grabbed a baseball bat that was near your bedroom door (thank goodness you were training with Jackson) and walked slowly down the hall to the living room.
"Y/N?"
You froze before frowning.
"Carla? What are you doing here?"
The woman looked you up and down and you blushed when her eyes stopped for a moment on your chest. She cleared her throat before speaking again.
"I wanted to talk to you but maybe I should wait until you don't have a bat in your hand" she teased lightly
You noticed that you were still holding the wooden stick tightly in your hand. Blushing even more, you leaned it against the wall. When you turned around again, you saw that your friend had approached and she was a few inches from you. You swallowed audibly.
All the way here, Carla had thought and gone over the words she would say to you, she had planned a whole speech for you, and god knows she hated speeches. But she had got her entire cassette erased by seeing you like this.
It was the first time she had admitted to herself that she really found you attractive. A part of her began to wonder if the whole Ty thing hadn't also been in part not to acknowledge her feelings for you.
"Carla?" you mumbled after a while
"Sorry" she jumped a little "I-"
"No, no. I'm sorry" you said "You didn't have to come here to tell me to stay away. You could have sent a message-"
"Why would I tell you to stay away?" she asked with a frown.
You blinked. An hour and she had already forgotten what you had said? You should be grateful, but it honestly hurt you.
"What I said at your house, I...I shouldn't have done it" you sighed
"So it wasn't true?" she asked carefully "Was everything you said a lie?"
"No!" You almost screamed "I just...it wasn't the way and I- I didn't mean to-"
Carla smiled slightly as she watched you babble in front of her. God, how had she not realized how adorable you were? Your lower lip was even trembling.
But she knew you. She knew that once you got flustered and started babbling, there was no stopping you. And she didn't have the time for that, no matter how beautiful you looked doing it. So she only had one option.
You gasped when your friend pounced on you, pressing you against the wall and kissing you deeply. Her hands immediately went to your hips and you moaned against your will when she pressed her chest against yours.
It took you a few moments to recover, but you wrapped your arms around her neck when you did, returning the affection. You didn't know what would happen when you’d ran out of air and had to talk, but to hell with that. You would enjoy the fact that she was kissing you, as you had wanted for so long.
If there was one thing Carla hated more than people themselves, it was having to talk about her feelings, especially this kind. So when you broke the kiss, her mouth immediately traveled to your neck.
You moaned a little when you felt her tongue on your skin. You wanted to continue, you needed to feel her, let her take you right there, but there was still a hideously rational part of you. So you pushed her gently, making her look at you.
"I love you" you whispered "...but I can't be another one of your one night stands"
The woman's heart broke a little when she looked into your eyes. She saw the fear you were feeling, but she also saw love. Love directed at her. No one had ever looked at her like that, not her ex husband, not Ty, no one.
"You aren’t" she promised
"Carla-"
"I swear you are not" she interrupted you. Suddenly, her brain seemed to wake up and the words she had practiced in the car fell out of her mouth "I'm sorry it took me so long, I'm sorry I was so stupid. I was so afraid of being alone, of not deserving of anyone, that I ended up accepting the first thing I could. But now I know that I love you "
"You're lying" you whispered "You...don't feel that way about me"
"I do" she promised
"And why didn't you say anything before?"
"I was scared. I took you for granted, because you were always there for me, no matter what. I ignored my heart, the butterflies in my stomach, the jealousy when I saw you too close to my mother. I didn't want to admit how I felt about you. And I didn't realize that I already had everything I ever wanted in front of me. I'm sorry. "
You looked into her eyes, searching for any trace of lies or mockery. But you didn't find it. She was telling the truth, she reciprocated your feelings.
You smiled at her and pulled her to you for another deep kiss. This time it was she who moaned against your mouth. The two of you poured all your feelings into that kiss, all the tension that you didn't even know had built up between you two.
Carla pulled away and felt a twinge of pride when she saw your swollen lips and the blush that ran from your cheeks to your neck. God you were beautiful.
"Carla I-"
"Shhh, no" she shut you up "you know I suck at this and that I hate romanticism. I already used up what little self-control I had"
You laughed a bit and she wiped away the tears you didn't even know had started to fall down your cheeks. She kissed you again and her hands lifted the towel a little over your thighs.
"Carla-"
"My mother has unsettlingly clear ideas about your body" she said abruptly "Something about lending you a blouse?"
"Oh...that" you laughed nervously "Yeah.. maybe I tried it on in front of her" you admitted
"Well, thank you very much, now I have to live with the knowledge that my mother has seen more of my girlfriend's body than I have."
"Girlfriend?" you smirked
Carla froze. Her cheeks quickly turned red and her eyes couldn't meet your face.
"I-I, w-well, I mean, m-maybe I should have waited a little longer, I-I just thought that-"
You cut her adorable and nervous babbling with a deep kiss that she happily returned.
"Take me to bed, then we discuss the status of our relationship" you said
"Deal"
_________________________
Isis smirked behind her beer when Carla groaned as you and Jackson yelled at her to run. She had no idea how you had managed to convince her to play with you, but here you were.
She suspected that it had little to do with being a "good mother to her son" and more to do with the shorts you were wearing. Either way, Isis was happy that her daughter found what she had been searching for so long.
You laughed when your girlfriend came back to your side with the ball in her hand. Her face was red from exhaustion and she was already sweating. She grunted a little but you pecked her lips to calm her down.
"I really hate this game" she muttered
"It doesn't matter, your girlfriend and your son love it. You'll get used to it" you joked.
You were about to kiss her again when you saw a figure walking towards you. You frowned and your grip tightened on the bat. Carla looked at you confused before following your gaze. She froze when she saw Ty walking towards you two with a bouquet of roses.
"I guess we got to the part where you forgive him" you whispered.
She looked at you and frowned. She intertwined her fingers with yours and kissed you on the cheek.
"Never again" she promised you.
You smiled at her and the two of you waited for Ty to be in front of you. The man looked at Carla, then at your hands and then back at Carla, completely ignoring you.
"We can talk?" He asked her
"No" she answered firmly
"Listen Carla, I made a mistake-"
"Me too" she cut him off "I made the mistake of being with you. To forgive you several times when I knew you would fail me again. No more. Get out of here"
"But-"
"You listened to the lady, buddy. Get out!" You grunted.
"Uh...and you are?" he asked, finally looking at you.
You felt his eyes run up and down your body, stopping a little on your legs. It made you want to throw up and by the way Carla squeezed your hand, you knew she hadn't liked it either. Not one bit.
"My girlfriend" she told him
"Girlfriend?" he scoffed "I thought you didn't want to see more vagi-"
You pointed the bat at his face before he could finish the sentence.
"Unlike you, I know how to use this" you growled "Get out of here before I use your head as a ball"
"You wouldn't" he smiled at you "Hey, there's no need to fight, you two are beautiful and I'm fabulous. Why don't we just put this in bed and be happy?"
You were about to insult him when Carla took the bat from you and used it to hit him hard in the balls. The man doubled over in pain before falling to the ground. You didn't know whether to laugh or feel bad for him.
"This butt is mine" Carla growled, releasing your hand and grabbing one of your buttocks to draw you closer to her "And nobody else's. If you get close to me or my family again, I'm going to hit a home run with your balls"
You held back your laughter and let her drag you out of there, leaving the poor man lying on the ground.
Carla yelled something about going for ice cream, causing Jackson to run to the car. Isis, unlike you, laughed the whole way. You smiled and took one last look at the roses that were now on the ground.
“That was hot” you whispered to her. Carla smiled and pecked your lips.
Her hand never left your ass until you got in the car.

(This sword flourish is the hottest thing i-)
Tumblr media
The next morning I woke entangled in the arms of the man I was trying to keep warm last night. He was fully back to his regular body temperature, and maybe a bit over now. I knew that I had to get myself away from this tangled situation, to spare us both an awkward morning. Before he woke up, I carefully and strategically managed to maneuver myself around and out of the bed. He didn't even flinch a muscle by the time i was done.
I heaved a breath and headed for the door. Carefully opening it and slipping out while staring back upon his sleeping form. He looked so peaceful, and sweet. I smiled softly while closing the door, peeping through the slit as it got narrower with my pulling on the handle. When it was all the way closed, I turned around, dropping and hitting the ground from how frightened I was to see my father standing right behind me this whole time.
"You could have told me you were there..." I mumbled as I retrieved myself from the floor. The look on his face told me something was wrong, and the glint in his eye told me it was probably my fault.
"Come with me, I need to speak with you." He said, walking down the corridor to where there was an opening. I followed him out onto one of the decks, looking out and seeing the sun had just finished rising over the mountain tops. It would be a beautiful sight, if I wasn't so nervous to hear what my father would say.
"So-"
"What was your intention? Did you think I would not find out?" He asked sternly. I wasn't totally clueless, yet I needed confirmation that we were both speaking of the same ordeal.
"What do you mean?" It came out sounding like I was playing dumb, but he would tell me anyway, so my wording would suffice.
"You are to look upon Bruce Wayne the same way you look upon the rest of your brothers. You cannot do the things of which you have done." He made it perfectly clear the topic of discussion. I figured that was what this was about, and now that I knew, I still didn't know how to respond. I sat for a second contemplating what I should tell him. Would he even believe me?
"I do look upon him the same. He and I get along better because we have more in common, that's all." Even I had convinced myself that was the truth. What would I even tell my father of the other feelings I felt for Bruce if I wasn't even sure what they were?
"You may think you can lie to me, Moyra... but you cannot. I have seen the glances you share. He looks at you the same way. It mustn't happen. He is to be your brother, and you his sister... nothing more." He spoke with his loud and authoritative voice, and since I hadn't truly heard it directed towards me for a while, it made me a bit aggressive. I would not be told how to look upon someone, for that was pure nonsense.
"There's nothing wrong with the way we look at each other. He is the best friend I've ever had the pleasure of making, and my bond with him is simply different than that of with the rest." I said, every word coming short and detached. I was perfectly satisfied with the way I'd spoken my piece, and turned around to leave before anything else could be said.... but there was more.
"Moyra." He said sternly, and I stopped in my tracks. "You spent the night in his bed."
I turned around and waited for him to finish, for I knew he wasn't quite done.
"Tell me what this is between the two of you." He commanded, and I sought no way out. The truth would do me good, for it was plain and simple.
"I don't even know what these feelings for him are, so I don't know what is between us." I said, waiting for a reply. I wished this conversation to be over, as I found it discomforting and stressful.
"I told you, I know when you lie..."
"And did I lie?" I looked him straight on. I'd gotten him, and he had nothing else to say.
Maybe I should have asked him what he thought my feelings for Bruce were. He usually knew everything. He might have been able to help me, but I was simply too proud of my victory to let him have the satisfaction, so I turned on my heels and left.
That afternoon I did my best to avoid my father, knowing that it could only result in a fight. I would like to think I was being the bigger person when in reality, I was being a baby about it all.
I didn't want to butt heads anymore with my father. We had been close since the day I'd come to train with him after my mother died. I didn't like to thimk that there was something making us drift apart, and that something, or someone, rather, wasn't even trying to.
I spent most the day with Bruce, since he had minimal training, and wasn't assigned any extra work around the place. I suppose it was kind of like a day off, but not entirely.
We played some games out on the deck to pass the time, and talked a bit to pass some more. It was a bit groggy outside, and the clouds that settled in were full of rain. It was sure to be riddled with thunder and lightning later tonight. The atmosphere was damp, which made the air smell lovely. Overall the evening came with a wonderful ambience. I loved it when it rained here. It was always cold, but there was just something about sitting in bed, wrapped in a blanket and listening to the raindrops fall down the glass windows that made the extra frigid weather tolerable.
By the time the rain actually did set in, Bruce and I had ended up in my room. We sat on the floor, the checker board splayed between us. I'd won six out of seven games thus far, but he said we could not stop playing until he at least won two. So we played four more games after, and he'd still lost.
"I don't know how you do it. It should be so easy-"
"Easy to beat someone who has studied strategy since she was eight?" I bragged slightly, but also helping him to justify his losses.
"Well when you put it like that..." he said, putting the pieces into the box followed by the game board.
"What happened to winning at least twice?" I crossed my arms and leaned my back against my bed while he put the box on the shelf by the wall.
"Given that you already let me win once, I think twice is a longshot. Besides, it's getting late." He said, with a shrug of his shoulders. I stood up and met him at the door before he left for the night. "I will beat you one day, don't worry."
"I'm counting on it." I smiled, letting him get to his own room before shutting my door.
I wanted to relax and enjoy the sounds of the rain beating down outside, but there was something missing.
I'd even snuggled down in my bed, wrapping myself tightly in a blanket, but still I wasn't able to rest properly. There was definitely something that I couldn't put my finger on, that I wanted for myself to be able to enjoy this stormy night to the fullest.
I tossed and turned, trying to think, when suddenly it dawned on me. I huffed a loud sigh, realizing I would have to get out of bed again after I'd gotten warm. All for the greater good of the night I suppose. I kept my blanket haphazardly wrapped around my shoulders when I got up.
I opened my door and took a few steps to knock on the next, looking left and right to make sure no unwanted eyes were lurking.
It took a few seconds, but the door did open, and bruce was half asleep standing in the doorway. He smiled a little, and I saw the sleepiness in his squinted eyes.
"Can I stay with you again?" I asked quickly and hopefully. He let out a chuckle before nodding and standing aside for me to come in. He shut the door, not caring how loudly it sounded when it closed.
I crawled into bed, the side that was closer to the wall this time, and waited for him to lay down. Though I'd tried not to focus on it, his bare chest was right in my view when he laid next to me.
"Couldn't sleep?" He asked me when he got situated. Both blankets were engulfing us now, and I knew this was what I felt was missing. He made this rainy evening the best it possibly could be.
"Kinda... it's just really cold, and you're comfy." I joked, curling into his side for emphasis. I didn't plan on staying that close, but his hands kept me in place next to him.
He stayed silent for a while, and I thought he'd fallen asleep, but out of nowhere his voice gently raised enough for me to hear him over the crackle of thunder in the distance.
"I meant to ask earlier, but I forgot.... what's happened with you and your father? You both were acting as though the other were a plague." He didn't mean any harm in asking, and truth be told it wouldn't do any, as long as I wasn't the one to steer it into a bad place.
"Well, he's a bit... confused. He thinks that I look at you differently than I do the others." I said blatantly, not beating around any bushes to make my point.
"Do you?" He asked curiously.
"Sort of...." I began, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I've never really felt the same around them. Like with you, I feel I could tell you anything. My brothers aren't ones to joke around like we are. They're always so serious... I can't have fun with them like I can with you."
He understood that part of it, but he was itching to have a question answered.
"So do you see me as your brother?" He shifted next to me, almost as if he was bracing himself. For what, I would never know.
"No... I'm not really sure what I see you as, but you're far too different from the others for me to call you my brother." I assured him. He seemed to relax from what was formerly a slightly tense state, and he pulled me closer with one arm.
"Well don't I feel special." He said playfully, and we both shared a quiet laugh before letting our words come to an end for the night. Somehow along the next few minutes, with our close vicinities, my head eneded up in his chest, and his other arm around my waist. It was comfortable, and we didn't move. We both fell asleep to the sound of raindrops slowing down. The rain was steeping up and we'd spent the majority of the lovely storm in the presence of each other. It made for a wonderful memory I suppose.

Tumblr media
You sat at the dinner table, staring down at the meal laid out before you. It was by far the best thing you had ever tasted, and yet, it was bland. So, so bland and bitter, that you hated it. Nevermind that it was your favorite dish made by your mother the other day, nevermind that you always loved it better as leftovers. It tasted bland and bitter, and you couldn’t help but wish what he was eating tonight was too.
It was pathetically selfish of you - you knew. But how could you not feel that way when the man you loved was out on a date with some stranger he met on the internet? He had left the house in a burgundy button up that looked like it was made for him, paired with black slacks that made him look like it should be illegal for him to be out in the streets without a warning sign.
It was his first attempt at online dating after having miserably failed at picking up girls from school. And now here he was, out with some chick with a name you could barely pronounce, and the stereotypical description of her bubbly personality that loved nature and volunteered at the animal shelter. Oh, and lets not forget, she’s a gemini!
You rolled your eyes, stabbing your fork into the now cold dish. Stupid boy, with his stupid date, with that stupid red shirt, and with his stupid personality.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. That’s what you were for falling in love with a boy who never saw you for more than another pity project, the pathetic little thing that needed friends but never had any guts to make one until he came along.
You picked up the container of food and stalked over to the bin, dropping its contents into it. You weren’t going to eat it anyways, especially not after how you had  massacred it.
After you left the dirty container in the sink, you flopped onto the couch, sighing heavily as you sank into the worn sofa. It smelled like Kuroo’s body soap, though from the amount of time he’s spent lying on this couch, it was to be expected.
You leaned forward, hand outstretched for the remote. Just a little further, a little more-
The door slammed open and you lurched forward, landing on the ground with a thud.
“It was horrible. She came into the restaurant and she looked amazing, but then we started talking and oh god, I don’t think I can be with someone who thinks that only the rich should be allowed to do whatever they want just because they’re rich.”
“Well hello to you too, Kuroo,” you grumbled from your spot on the floor, flipping yourself over to face the ceiling.
He jumped over the sofa arm, landing perfectly on it like he always does.
“I mean, how can I accept that? That’s just morally wrong and if her basic morals are wrong, what about other more important things? I walked out right after that, that doesn’t make me an asshole right?” His head popped out, brown eyes staring down at you. The cologne he wore tonight drifted down, washing over you and clouding your mind with its deliciously warm and thick and-
“I mean I did pay for the meal before I left,” he mutters, dropping his head onto the cushion, voice muffled slightly by it. “So it counters the fact that I left, right?”
The sigh that begs to pull its way out is caught by you, stuffed into the depths of your stomach in exchange for a soft pat on his head and words you know he wants to hear.
“No, you’re not an asshole. Maybe that was an asshole move, but that doesn’t make you one. Besides, her lack of a moral compass cancels out any asshole you might’ve been.” You combed through his hair, drawing it out of the careful style he had forced his bed head into. “This hairstyle though? It makes you look like an extreme asshole.”
Kuroo scoffed indignantly and his head popped back over the edge once more, brown eyes glaring at you. “I worked hard on this!”
“Doesn’t make you look any less of an ass.”
Tumblr media
“The date was incredible.” He sighed dreamily, leaning against the counter with his chin in his hand. The temptation to throw your fork at him increased, and it took every sane cell in your body to set it down on the table instead, albeit rougher than you intended.
If Kuroo noticed your intensity, he didn’t mention it, instead continuing on to sigh and gush about the wonderful date he had last night with this amazing woman at this delicious place.
For someone who was incredibly perceptive, he could be incredibly dense as well. You wonder at his obliviousness to your feelings, to the poorly concealed hurt that peeked through in every little move of your body.
All you wanted to do was scream at him, to wake up, open his eyes, and see you.
You, who had been there since the beginning, who had watched him grow from the shy, introverted kid to this cunning, charismatic man who excelled and went beyond what had been expected of him. You, who had seen him at his worst, and still stayed, patching him up and helping him to his feet. You, who knew who he was to the core, every detail, every fact about him.
But it seemed he didn’t know you as well.
“That’s great,” you interrupt him. He glanced at you, surprised by your abruptness. “I gotta go get some work done, I’ll talk to you tomorrow morning.”
“Wait, did I do something wrong?” He called after your retreating back. “Hey, I’m sorry if I pissed you off.”
“No, it’s nothing!” You slammed the door shut, slumping against it. God, you were a fool to have fallen for an idiot. Dashing away the burning tears that slip down your cheeks, you gathered just enough strength to crawl beneath onto your bed and beneath the covers.
The cat plushie he got you a long time ago sits at the bottom of your bed, staring at you. You glared at it, before giving in and grabbing it, tucking it into your chest. Stupid Kuroo with his stupid face and this stupid cat. You hate him so much.
(No, you don’t, you really don’t. And it hurts so much more to know that.)
Tumblr media
You’re back here once more, glaring daggers at the clock. The slow ticking of the hands pisses you off, every second gone is a second more Kuroo’s out there, with another girl, on another date. With the number of bad first dates he’s gone one, you’d think he’d give up. But no, this man was persistent, and he wanted to “experience life!”
Well, he was going to experience death soon if he didn’t come back home soon. Your vigil continued, all the way till three am where you gave up and went to bed, your exhaustion outweighing your annoyance and worry. He’s a grown man, there was no need to worry about him.
Tumblr media
Honestly, you didn’t know how you got here. To this suffocating silence that rested upon your chest, pinning you down as you listened to the sounds of cars rushing past and the occasional laughter that seeped through the walls. To where you spent your nights alone in your shared apartment, waiting for Kuroo to come home from yet another date. Like some married person waiting on their cheating husband, you smiled bitterly at the ceiling.
Only you weren’t married to him, and you certainly weren't his anything.
If only you were less of a fool, you might’ve moved on long ago. Maybe you might have even found someone who might be just as in love with you as you were with them. You might have already been in a happy relationship, going out on dates, spending your nights with them, being loved. But you were a fool, a fool in love with another fool.
So you continued to lie there, the infinite weight of your one-sided love pressing you into the ground, holding you prisoner to Kuroo Tetsurou.
Tumblr media
“Hey, do you wanna go get dinner?” Kuroo called out. “There’s nothing left in the fridge, maybe we could get groceries after.”
You ignored him, focusing on the dimly lit screen of your phone. There hadn't been a proper conversation with him in a while, and you were content to leave it that way if only it meant you didn’t have to hear about his dates with those seemingly perfect women and their seemingly perfect food.
Kuroo called out once more, and you burrowed beneath the blanket, curling up into a ball.
No, you did not want to get dinner with the man you’re so desperately in love with it almost hurts to even breathe in his presence.
The door creaked open, and you could see his shadow stretch out across your bedroom floor, casting its shape upon your walls. It took everything in you to tear your eyes away from it and back onto your phone, though it lingered in your peripheral, taunting you with the way it twisted and leaned closer to you, the scent of his cologne growing stronger by the second, until it almost felt like he wa-
“Why are you ignoring me?” Kuroo whined into your ear as he draped his body over yours, strands of inky hair tickling your cheek.
“Ku-roo-” you gasped out, fighting to twist your body out from under him. “Can’t- bre-breathe.”
He groaned into your ear, dropping even more pressure down. “Don’t care, you ignored me.” He sulked as he burrowed his head into the crook of your neck.
A blind kick to his legs has him flopping off you, spread eagle on your too tiny bed.
“You’re too heavy to be pulling this crap,” you snapped at him.
“And you’re too old to be ignoring me when something’s wrong,” he shot back just as fast, and you were left stunned. To be fair, you should have expected it, Kuroo being one of the most perceptive people you’ve ever met.
(Not perceptive enough to see the deep feelings you harbored for him though.)
“So what’s wrong?”
‘Everything,’ you wanted to scream. ‘You, those stupid dates, my feelings, every god damned thing on earth.’
Instead, what came out was: “I’m just stressed. Work, you know?” You shot him an unconvincing smile.
Kuroo frowned, his lips pinching as he stared at you. He knew better than to push you though, and settled with a curt nod, a forced smile slipping onto his face. “So…. dinner?”
You sighed in exasperation, and let him yank you up and out of bed. The way his stiff smile melted into an easy, fond one was enough to wash away your hesitance, and temporarily dam up the river of doubts that threatened to drown you.
Just for tonight, you’ll enjoy his presence, before he gets caught up in another’s embrace.
(You let yourself get swept up in him again, chasing after the ebb of his warmth when his encompassing presence surges away from you. But you find that you don’t really mind drowning in him, not when the peak of the surf reveals such beautiful sights in the form of lazy smirks and sly hazel eyes.)
Tumblr media
It’s another failed date that sends him home in a fitted suit, one that you had turned your nose up at. Kuroo doesn’t understand what’s going wrong, why he never felt like the date was right. The people he had gone on dates with were nothing short of amazing, with the exception of a few. But they just lacked… something. And so he always leaves them with a grateful goodbye and an apologetic smile, returning home to the apartment he shared with you alone.
He’s spent nights and days trying to convince himself that they were an ideal candidate to date, listing out their positive notes to you, and somehow he can’t seem to find the thing that made him just click with them. It’s bordering on frustrating, really, and Kuroo is more than ready to relieve some of the building tension in his body by hanging out with you.
His entrance home is muffled by the sounds of music blasting through the apartment, and it’s a wonder the neighbours haven’t complained yet. He’s about to call out for you as he drops keys on the coffee table, one hand loosening his tie when he catches sight of you dancing in the kitchen.
And everything clicks in place.
It’s a stunning clarity that leaves him reeling, and he wonders how he could have missed it in the first place. It’s a simple truth: Kuroo Tetsurou was completely, utterly, irrevocably in love with you. And it only took him fifty bad first dates to realize that the only person he wanted to go on a date with was you.
Objectively speaking, you look like a complete mess, but to him, the sight of you twirling around in sock clad feet in an oversized shirt with a lame chemistry joke printed across it was infinitely better than any of the people he had gone on dates with. You’re absolutely perfect to him, yelling out lyrics to a song that’s blasting at full volume from the living room.
There isn’t a moment’s hesitation as he surges forward, a force tugging him to you. And like just like two opposing magnets, you spin around just in time for him to collide into you, his head hazy as his mouth crashes down upon yours.
You taste of leftover pizza and something sweet, and he thinks it might be the best damn thing he’s ever tasted. The shocked gasp that escapes you is swallowed by Kuroo as he deepens the kiss, arms winding around you to pull you impossibly closer. And he isn’t sure why he’s so surprised when you reciprocate the kiss, melting into him as your hands grip the lapels of his blazer.
It feels like an eternity spent wrapped around each other, the beat of the music matching the rhythm of your hearts, and the warmth of each other.
Kuroo pulls away first, only because rationality comes sinking back into his muddled brain, and there’s a brief moment of panic when he stares down at your flushed face, lips swollen from his sudden attack. But the absolute relief and love in your eyes has him calming down, and the soft peck you deliver next settles those doubts.
“It’s been you all this while,” his voice cracks, and he winces. “You’re my best friend, and I’m in love with you.”
The smile that breaks out across your face is everything he’s been looking for, and he feels like a fool for being so blind. You’re everything he’s wanted, and everything he’s needed.
“I’m in love with you.” He repeats louder, an incredulous laugh bubbling out of him. “I’m in love with you!”
“I’m in love with you too!” You yell back, and in his excitement, he can’t help but twirl you around, and you burst into giggles. There isn’t a better sound in the world than this, he thinks.
“Be mine.” He catches you by the shoulders, face alight with adoration.
“I’ve been yours for a long time now.” Your answer fills him with a rush of delight and guilt, and he’s ready to spill apologies and promises to make it up to you when you yank on his tie hard, pulling him into another kiss. Every unspoken word, every drop of emotion that has ever begged to be exchanged between you two is said with a simple kiss.
Kuroo thanks the heavens for you, for blessing his life with someone who is more than he deserves. The weight of you in his arms is a comforting pressure, and there he has his last first date, at the beginning of a new chapter in the story of him and you, eating leftovers and dancing to songs of your childhood.
He’s in love with you, and you are with him too.

Naive
Ray Blackwell x M!Reader
Summary: An invitation at a party reveals that Luka had no idea you’re gay, and brings up a concern you hadn’t had before. Tags: Crack, fluff, secret relationship, mention of homophobia, alcohol consumption A/N: This is based on a dream I had where Luka and I had this exact conversation and when I woke up and remembered it I nearly threw up laughing. I did actual research for the girls outfit and hair bc im a fashion history nerd. the pocket watch i just thought was cute. Fenrir calls the reader fruity but its okay bc hes gay too god bless Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
The party was the usual affair expected of the Godspeed's, an air of elegance- present but not too overbearing- hanging over the large hall. Music drifted gently to your ears as you took everything in, a small smile settling on your face.
You couldn't help but feel a little underdressed. The officers had, of course, kept their uniforms on, but everyone else present was dressed to the nines. You'd thought the suit you wore was lovely when you and Seth had seen it last week, dark blue with a white trim, paired with a pale cyan tie and pocket square. The gold watch that settled comfortably in your pocket had been a gift from Blanc, supposedly made by Oliver to look similar to his own, to commemorate your decision to stay in Cradle. Compared to everyone else, it felt rather simple now, but you pushed the thought aside. Nobody was judging what you were wearing, they were here to enjoy themselves same as you.
"Would you like a drink?" Ray asked, voice soft enough not to startle you too much. This wasn't too effective, as you'd gotten lost in your thoughts, and sort of forgotten there were people around you, but it was kind of him to try. "Oh, yes, please." You smiled at him and a moment later he'd walked off, talking to Sirius about something, leaving you alone with Luka. Fenrir had disappeared to greet his family when you'd first arrived, and Seth was who knows where, but you didn't mind it being just the two of you. Luka rarely came to these, in fact this was the first he'd been to since you'd arrived in Cradle, despite it being your fifth, and you decided someone should stick with him so he didn't feel quite as nervous.
As you turned to say something to him, you noticed a lady making her way over to the both of you, looking rather flustered. Her fists were clenched at her sides, and she seemed to be muttering something to herself, but it was clear she had intent to speak to one of you. Perhaps she wanted to talk to Luka? He was cute, it wouldn't surprise you. What did surprise you, however, was when she walked up to you instead.
"Um, excuse me if this is far too forward, but... would you be interested in dancing with me?" She sounded so nervous, and you almost wanted to say yes. Any other man would have been lucky to get such an invitation- she looked stunning. She wore her hair in curls, gathered at the back of her neck, with a hairpiece of pale blue flowers was pinned at the front, a necklace donning the same type of flower hanging just above the neckline of her gown. The gown in question matched the colour of the flowers well, though the width of the crinoline supported skirt would have made you concerned about the logistics of dancing with her- if you'd had any intention of saying yes. Her cheeks were tinted pink as she chewed her bottom lip and waited for your answer, avoiding your gaze. A hand on your chest and a sincerely apologetic look on your face, you began to respond. "Oh dear. I'm terribly sorry, but you seem to have gotten the wrong end of the stick. You're a very attractive young lady but I'm afraid... how should I put this," You glanced at Luka for help, but he seemed to have no idea what you were trying to tell her, "I'm afraid I don't tend to set my eye on the ladies, so to speak." "You're... gay?" A sympathetic nod. "That's the ticket. Sorry, love." "Oh, it's not a problem! I'm really sorry to have bothered you!" She suddenly looked much less nervous, though a little embarrassed, and scurried off. You sighed. "I feel a little bad. I really hope she finds someone to dance with." Luka looked at you quizzically. "Why did you lie to her?" A confused laugh escaped you. "I'm sorry?" "You told her you were into guys. Why lie?" As he said this, Seth and Fenrir came up behind him, and hearing his question their eyebrows shot up. So did yours. Was he kidding? "Luka, sweetie, you have got to tell me what part of my personality made you think I was heterosexual, so I can set about changing it immediately." Seth choked on his drink, and though you flashed him a grin, you weren't entirely kidding. Going from Victorian London to a world where being gay was perfectly acceptable had been quite the change, but you'd been certain all of your friends had known. It's not like you were quiet about it, and sure, Luka was naive but... come on, now. "Wait are you... you were being honest?" "Yes?" "Luka," Fenrir began, stepping next to you and resting an elbow on your shoulder, "How have you seriously not noticed that he's gay yet?" "Well- there was no reason for me to assume!" "You watched me drunk make out with at least 2 different Black Army soldiers in my first month here!" Luka looked flustered, and utterly dumbfounded. The expression was one he wore often, usually when people insinuated that someone was in love- but somehow about five times more confused. He was unfortunate enough that Ray and Sirius returned at this moment, just in time to hear both your last remark, and his next one.
"I thought that was just something you did when you were drunk?" In another moment you were on your knees, legs shaking so much from laughter that you couldn't hold yourself up any longer. Fenrir was right there beside you, practically convulsing. Everyone else was laughing too- except poor Luka. You felt a little bad, truly you did, but this had to be the funniest thing you had ever heard. "He's completely straight, but watch out! Get a couple drinks in him and he turns fruity!" Fenrir managed to get out between cackles, and Ray was glad to have put your drinks down when Luka had last spoken, because he too nearly fell to the ground at this.
"Luka- Luka I'm sorry." You pulled yourself to your feet, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. "We aren't laughing at you." Another fit of giggles overcame you. "Okay we kind of are, but it's not malicious or anything. That was just... hands down the funniest thing you've ever said." It took most of you 5 or so minutes to fully calm down from what he'd said, and anything that jogged your memories of it would bring you back to a state of uncontrollable laughter for the rest of the night. Luka came round to it being pretty funny after you talked him through the dozens of times you'd mentioned your sexuality to him since you'd met- every one of which had gone over his head.
Hours after the party had worn down and you'd all made your way home, you lay in bed, your head pressed against a familiar chest, and sighed. "What's up?" "I just... D'you think anyone else just hasn't realised?" Ray cocked his head, confused. "I'm gonna need a little more info than that, kitten." "I suppose I just... Back in London, it's not even legal to be gay, and I don't know if it ever will be. When I first came out to Fen, he told me that it was fine here, accepted and even celebrated. So, I guess I just thought that people wouldn't make the automatic assumption that I'm straight, y'know? I mean I talk about it a lot among you guys but- when I’m out and about... where do people think my final destination is? When I pick up a silly cat themed gift for you does the shopkeep think I’m buying it for my wife? It shouldn't be a big deal, I guess, but I'd never been able to be myself until I came here, and now it's like I can be me but... people will still only see who I am if I tell them. It's just weird is all. I dunno. Maybe I'm drunk." "You're not drunk. It's an understandable concern. I guess I've never thought about it, because whether or not people would accept that part of me has never been an issue, but the fact that you've had to hide it for so long and now that you're able to be open people still aren't seeing it must be hard. If you want we could... come out, so to speak?" Your eyebrows raised, and you moved back, propping yourself up on your arm so you could look your partner in the eyes.
It had been decided at the very start of your relationship, which had officially begun a few months after you'd made the choice to stay in Cradle, that the two of you would keep it under wraps for a while. Being from the Land of Reason was more than enough reason for people to take an unwanted interest in you, and you didn't need the extra attention being the King of Spades' partner would garner. Plus, anyone with a grudge against Ray would see you as a target the second you announced it. It had been a sensible suggestion on his part, one you hadn't hesitated to agree to, and as far as you knew only Sirius and Fenrir knew about your relationship. Fenrir because he had walked in on you sitting in Ray's lap while he worked late one night, and Sirius because- well, can anything get past that guy? And now, Ray was offering to tell the entirety of Cradle you were his, just so that you didn't feel like you were hiding your identity anymore? You could feel your eyes starting to burn, and you cursed the late hour and the alcohol in your system for making you cry so easily, but... "I don't think we need to be that drastic. You were right when you said it would keep me safe for us to not be in the public eye, at least for now. I'm sure Seth can come up with some better way for me to tell the whole world I'm gay." "I don't doubt that at all." Ray grinned, placing a gentle kiss on first your forehead, then your nose, and finally on your lips. "Tomorrow, though. You need your beauty sleep." "Ah, yeah, can't risk getting ugly. My boyfriend might not want me anymore." You quipped. "Exactly." He smirked at you, turning out the light and pulling you into his arms.

I saw you posted about the DA netflix thing and then I think you deleted it while I was trying to respond lol, but would you like it if they made that?
lmao oh no caught in the act
Yeah, I deleted it bc my post was basically just saying 'there's no way this is true' bc I'd seen the article late last night on whatever random website had originally posted it and no other outlets had responded to it at all and i mistakenly assumed they still hadn't, but IGN and others posted about it right after I made that post.
I personally would not be excited about it, but eh, people loved the witcher, so why not? I really did not enjoy the witcher netflix show so I just fully admit it's outside of my wheelhouse, I guess. Outside of lotr and dragon age, I'm not big on fantasy tbh, so I think there's something inherent to it being a video game that makes me like dragon age, but obviously that's not the case for everyone, so who am i to say it's not worth doing. it's better than all the other video-game inspired movies they want to make like tetris and centipede and portal i s2g for some bizarre reason lol
I guess mostly it's neither here nor there for me as long as they don't try to make it some grand thing that advances the plot of the overall story of the games in some way and instead just have it be it's own thing? like i see a lot of people worried about them canonizing player choices from the games (like if they made a show based on origins or something), but i wouldn't consider that canonizing. just a version of a story. i'd rather they just chose a particular story and told it and have it be something separate from the games. yeah, preferably something different than just a re-telling of Origins, like an adaption of one of the books, or even something brand new that's just generally unrelated and not as consequential for all of thedas, but I'm honestly not as concerned about it as a lot of people seem to be? Like it's just a story, it's not the story, and I'd prefer to keep it that way instead of it being another medium in addition to the games + comics + books where game-changing lore is dropped, if that makes sense?

Part one of Projecting onto Genesis because I can
------
This series is just me projecting onto Genesis and saying he has adhd bc I said so, and thank you to the wonderful Beth and two friends who know nothing about FFVII for reading this over for me <3
And for the sake of my own sanity I'm pretending that the deserion never happened, again bc I said so.

Story under the cut :]
Behaviour 1
When first meeting Genesis you would assume he was just some kid that registered for Soldier, has a love for the poem Loveless that can't be rivaled by anyone and an uncontrollable rage.
From an outside perspective of Genesis you would most likely have seen what he was always described as by others, though from the quick glances in the halls or overheard conversations you could usually bet on the red head to be ranting to his friend about Loveless, or one thing and another. Though he always appeared fixated on the poem he held with such high regards.
When Sephiroth became something akin to a friend to Angeal and Genesis he heard the poem even more, it was endless ranting and raving with quoting it thrown into the mix. But it gave Genesis a flavor to him that just made him feel distinct from many others. And this friendship would stick around and bloom later into the future.
Behaviour 2
Being in a friendlier position with the two gave Sephiroth an odd bonding experience, Angeal seemed similar to many others, or in the way he did certain things, usually just the finer details. Genesis however was a melting pot of experiences, bonding with him was more sharing things that he enjoyed with such intensity you might as well be intimidated just a little.
Among that he always seemed to be moving in some way, if it was fidgeting with something he had in his hands, drumming his fingers against the table, and readjusting in his seat almost constantly. Though there were times where he was uncharacteristically quiet and spaced out, those were the times where he or Angeal had to nudge him back to reality every now and again. It was a surprise he hadn't been kicked from the program before from what Sephiroth was observing.
Behavior 3
To Sephiroth and anyone not by the name of Angeal Hewley, would have found it concerning how much coffee Genesis drank sometimes, it was in an irregular pattern but it did happen every now and then.
Though he did see a slight difference in behaviour, when the coffee consumption was at a relatively regular level Genesis always seemed more aware and less spacey in a way. As if everything was just less organized than usual.
Behaviour 4
Being at company gatherings had always been quite boring, there was never much going on other than keeping the upper plate important people happy with Shinra.
Though it was always at these kinds of gatherings where Genesis seemed uncomfortable in more ways than one, seemingly sticking to Angeal or Sephiroth for as long as he could. He did appear just as confident as usual, if not a bit more.
At the end of it he seemed to practically dash out the doors and back to his apartment at the Shinra tower and that was practically the last he saw of him for the night.
Behaviour 5
To no one's surprise Genesis had gotten both Angeal and Sephiroth to go to an orchestration of the music used in the Loveless productions. The experience had been quite pleasant, Genesis seemed to be almost vibrating in excitement where he stood.
When they entered the music hall the orchestration was to be in and got to the seats in the Shinra owned box, they waited for the concert to start. When it did Genesis gave the most excited applause for the orchestra when they entered the stage, shuffling in his seat occasionally as per usual.
Sephiroth appreciated the music, it was quite wonderful, though he couldn't help but notice the slight discomfort on Genesis's face in the louder parts of the piece. By the end of it Genesis looked like was about to be as excitable as Angeal's puppy was on a daily basis, he couldn't help but smile at his friend.
When they got out of the box to leave and go back to the Shinra tower Sephiroth took notice of a similar face of discomfort, it felt odd to him, it might just be the change in noise levels and bigger crowd, though it felt like a reach to him.
Angeal patted Genesis's shoulder and whispered something in his ear, which made the latter respond by lightly headbutting the former's shoulder.
The Explanation
It had been a relatively quiet evening of reading when there came a knock on Sephiroth's door, standing up and putting the book away on the coffee table he went and answered the door, seeing Angeal standing there. "Hello there Angeal" he stepped aside, letting his friend step inside.
"Hello to you too Sephiroth, I was wondering, could you possibly do me a favor?" this caught Sephiroth slightly off guard, as it was not often that Angeal asked for favors.
"I should be able to, depending on what it is. Why?" he looked at his friend with a questionng look.
"It's quite simple, I'll be gone for a while on a mission soon and I just need you to send a message to Gen every morning until I get back to remind him of the thing." he said simply.
"What 'thing' am I reminding him of?" he gave Angeal a perplexed look.
Angeal hummed in thought and then said "It's not really my place to go saying what it is, but if you need to know I'd go to Genesis if I were you."
"I might just do that if you won't give me the answer, if it's not something bad then I'll be sure to remind him."
"That's understandable, thank you." Angeal gave him a nod as a moved to leave the doorway to go back to his apartment.
The choice to go see Genesis had been made after some thought, leaving his apartment walking with even strides was spent thinking what this 'thing' that Angeal wouldn't clarify on.
Knocking on Genesis's apartment and hear a fumbling over something as the owner of the apartment opened the door. "Why hello there Sephiroth, didn't expect to see you, what brings you here?" he seemed focused on looking anywhere but Sephiroth's eyes.
"Angeal asked me to do something and he wouldn't explain it to me, so I must ask. When he asks me to remind you of 'the thing' what is it that I'm reminding you of?" He gave Genesis a raised eyebrow as he spoke.
This had caught said person off guard, as he beckoned Sephiroth inside, he curiously followed, wondering what was so important, ot secret, that it needed to be discussed in private. Away from the possibly peering eyes of the halls.
"I- uhm, it's uhh, yknow what, it'll be easier to explain if I just show you, hold on for a moment." Seeing Genesis stutter over his words so much was an odd sight to see as the door was closed and soon he dashed off to the hall of his apartment.
Returning soon he held up a small case of medication labeled after the days of the week, all of them seemingly having the same contents, though the days before the present were empty.
"And these are?" He gave Genesis a questioning look, wanting a slightly more indept explenation.
Even with his enhanced hearing he could only hear Genesis's mumbled response, the few words he heard were "they're --- meds, --- need 'em --- better than --- without ---."
"Could you possibly repeat that? I won't judge you, I just want to know what I'm supposed to be reminding you to do and how important it is." He said in a warmer tone.
"I- uhm, it's perscribed and I-uh, really need them" followed by some uncharacteristic stuttering as all eye contact was avoided.
"That's a good enough explenation for now, if you feel more comfortable with telling me some time later I'll be all ears, have a good evening Genesis." He gave him a small smile.
"Oh, uh alright then, good night Seph." He gave his friend a small wave as he left the apartment.

warnings: an annoying ass insecurity moment, mentions of matcha
word count: 1,412
a/n: We wrote this during a sorority's pledge night and thought we were in the middle of a cult initiation ---- Basically the same thing but they didn't offer us any of the blood of previous sisters. #bummed
You laid awake most of the night, staring at the ceiling, deep in thought. What had you done. There was a clock hanging on George's wall near his bed, the ticking seeming to grow louder and louder as you noticed it. Where did the lipstick come from earlier. His duvet was blue, not uncharacteristic for him, but you were pleasantly surprised at how soft his sheets were and that he slept on the side you usually avoided. Did you even love him.
Did you even love him?
What if you had been so wrapped up in passion and rage that it just felt like you did? As your high began to wear off, you wondered why you were even there. George deserved better than someone who wasn't sure. How could he have been in love with you for so long yet he chose now to make it evident? Why couldn't he have told you years prior, when you weren't finally getting somewhere with your career? The horrific aspect of it all was the fact that as soon as the sun came up the next day, the next day of your real lives away from the theatre, George would have the possibility of deciding that he didn't actually love you. Then where would you be? Back in bed with Mark, living out your dreary day-by-day as if nothing had ever happened? As you laid there, thinking about all the possibilities of what could happen, there was still one major thing on your mind: Where did the lipstick come from?
As the sunlight began to peek through the blinds, your heart sank. You felt sick and worried, knowing that at any moment, he could wake up. What would you tell him? 'I don't know what's going on. You deserve someone who does. You deserve someone who wears that shade of lipstick.' Surely not. You turned your head to look at George, his hair sprawled out over his dark pillowcase as he slept peacefully, the covers wrapping around his bare torso. The stripes from the blinds barred across his back, the latter pattern changing every so often as the sun moved behind a cloud or higher into the sky. His face was calm and without the intensity, it holds when he's awake, mainly a difference between when he's deep in thought. He looked younger and almost zen. You itched to know what he was dreaming.
You bit your lip slightly and without thought, picked yourself up out of bed to silently sweep your clothes up from around the room. Guilt weighed on your heart as you took one last look at the boy before you left his apartment. You needed to run, to keep running until your lungs burned and your legs could barely hold you up, something else to give you feeling rather than having to sort your feelings out. So you did, in your new dress and bare feet; you ran.
In the next few weeks, you attempted to gather your thoughts and sort your life out. How could you invite George in when you didn't even have a spot for him? You started off by addressing the fact that you had gotten kicked out of your own show for punching an understudy. You had texted the director earlier begging him to meet up so you could explain the situation in the hopes of smoothing over whatever feathers you had inadvertently ruffled. Thankfully he had agreed.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. I wasn't firing you. I literally just wanted you to calm down."
You thought about his sentence said over a steaming cup of a matcha flavored drink, his rowdy hair blowing frantically around his head as your eye twitched slightly. Your head filled with new script plots and coursework to mix with the overwhelmed unease you experienced whenever George flashed into your mind.
His face, his hands, his voice. Every sacred touch from the man seemed to be tattooed on you, but the thought of him only came to you at night when you were alone with your never-ending stream of consciousness. You thought mainly about what it was like to finally rest in his arms. It had been too long since you hadn't talked to him. Had he forgotten about you? Had he moved on to whomever the lipstick belonged to? You started staying in most nights, catching up on work to keep you busy.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
Why had he said that? Why hadn't you said it back?
It was in November when you got an email from your local movie theater about a "throwback" night. Headlining was none other than Judge Dredd. You chuckled to yourself slightly, looking at the paperwork surrounding you and---for once---thought fuck it. You deserved a night off. Grabbing your jacket and heading out, you noticed it beginning to snow. You pulled your jacket tighter around you to combat the cold air, your mind briefly drifting to the night when you were stuffed into George's car, bundled up in his hoodie. You were within walking distance to the theater, and after getting your ticket, your seat was even easier to find. Judge Dredd hadn't made it big in the '90s---shocker---so you were honestly surprised that more than four people had shown up to the screening. Sinking into your chair, you felt small. The movie flashed onto the screen and you chuckled to yourself at the opening song, thinking of the last time you had seen the film with your brother.
And George.
The seat next to you creaked as someone settled in beside you. You didn't think to look up, only the thought of why they would have picked that seat when the whole theater was basically free crossed your mind. A familiar scent invaded your senses, your brows furrowing as you turned your head, catching the gaze of George. The two of you shared a look, your heartbeat quickening as the blues in his eyes seemed to deepen. He didn't look sad, his expression still dressed like the day on the street. You wanted to cry, finding it hard not to tell him everything at once. Instead, you turned back to the screen, breathing shallowly. A few moments passed of Sylvester Stalone's voice filling the theater until your hand fell beside your leg, wanting to be closer to George. You didn't look at him again, biting back the emotion threatening to spill over. His pinky reached out for you and you moved to grab his hand in yours, intertwining your fingers with his. He let out a sigh of relief and you took the opportunity to lean towards him, resting your head on his shoulder, the softness of his sweater feeling like home to you. You exhaled a breath you didn't know you were holding in, finally feeling at peace.
"I love you," you whispered.
EPILOGUE.
You slipped your dress on, struggling to get the zipper up, feeling like you had lost your independence. You had been spoiled with a man that would zip you up without being asked. You groaned slightly, tugging your shoes on instead and calling out. George peeked around the doorframe, his eyebrows raised slightly as he tugged at his cuffs. "Do you mind?" You asked, holding up your hair and turning your back to him. You heard him chuckle, walking over to you and zipping your dress up, placing a kiss to the back of your neck. "I feel like a damn beached whale."
George let out an almost snickering response. "I love whales."
"You're not helping." You turned to him, rolling your eyes slightly. His features seemed to soften as he looked you over. He still looked at you like you were standing beside the altar next to him.
You stretched your back. He shrugged. "We could skip?"
"No, last time you said that I got pregnant." You fought not to smile at your own complaint. "I'm done being pregnant. Maybe if you win tonight, it'll be over."
George rolled his eyes, bending slightly to mockingly rest his cheek against your stomach. "Take your time, little one. Mummy's just being an ass."
You pushed him away from you. "Stop corrupting her! I'm supposed to be the favorite parent!"
He crossed his arms, a smirk playing at his lips. "Oh, I beg to differ."
You pushed past him, grabbing your bag as you left the room. "You're insufferable. You know that?"
"Bite me."
