So I was trying to find out what the Pandoran ocean’s salinity might be to see if I can conceivably cook a dish with salt (I imagine the Na’vi probably aren’t mining rock salt so I’m just skipping that) and while I did not learn that, here’s what I did learn

Pandora has more ocean than Earth

Pandora has significantly more acidic oceans than current Earth due to the massive amounts of carbon dioxide in the air. For comparison, earth’s oceans have a roughly 8.05 pH at the moment (though it’s projected to drop to 7.7 by 2100) (important to this, pH is exponential, so a pH of 8 is 10x more alkaline than a pH of 7 so that will wreak havoc on the oceans if it gets to then) and the carbon dioxide from the air that’s throwing all this off is about .04% of the current Earth’s atmosphere. Meanwhile, Pandora has an 18% carbon dioxide atmosphere

Pandora’s oceans might not be salty at all, that’s a possibility

Pandora’s oceans do have a bunch of sulfur in them due to all the volcanic activity and thermal vents. They presumably also have other things as well, such as potassium, zinc, and copper that also come out of Earth’s thermal vents. They probably also have some unobtainium too, because Pandora

Pandora has 5 distinct levels of ocean: Epipelagic (Sunlight), Mesopelagic (Twilight), Bathylpelagic (Midnight), Abyssopelagic (Abyssal), and Hadalpelagic (Trench), all five of which have life in them

There is an official Pandoran Ocean Simulator, which you can make a Pandoran-style creature and release it into a virtual ocean, where it will swim around indefinitely

Anyways, this did not answer my question but it does give me new questions, like is Na'vi sweat or skin oils super alkaline to combat being dissolved in the ocean and does Ronal have alkaline eyedrops for the Sully’s and anyone else who actually opens their eyes underwater instead of using their clear eyelids and is that even needed?

One thing I wish would have been changed about avatar. I wish they would have shown more of earth and everything with it. I also wish it was in the theatrical version. Like it shows how shitty and how horrible it is. Especially the economy, pollution, and how different the people look and dress. All of them wearing masks and coverings as if they came from a post apocalyptic world.

And also how they have to use cloning to bring back animals that when extinct over centuries ago due to deforestation and pollution.

The saddest thing is how we see how humans live. Especially when we see where Jake sully lives. It’s a lot like some of the apartments we have today that some people can only afford.

I See You (Fluff)

Pairing: Tsuek'tu (Na'vi) x Reader

Tsuek'tu held you at his side, large hand encompassing your waist as he held you steady after you nearly fell off the thin vine you stood on.

You gripped his arm in panic, looking up at him with fearful eyes. “Tsuek- I’m going to fall.”

The end of his lip tilted up, “I won’t let you fall, just a bit further.”

He never let you go the rest of the way, acutely aware of your tense little form. He would protect you at any cost, his sweet one.

Ever since he rescued you from the thanator, the two of you have spent countless nights together- with you tucked next to him as he pulled you along amongst the trees.

You were constantly learning about their planet, the creatures and flora. But most of all, the people, their culture and way of life.

He often spoke in Na'vi, letting you listen as he pointed things out and described them. You were catching on, slowly but surely learning the complex language.

Tsuek paused, hand keeping you at the back of him.

"Kempe leren?" you asked quietly, unsure if you were actually asking what was happening.

He smiled to himself, you were learning. "Shh, do not scare the yerik," he said quietly.

He shifted his position, leaning back against the tree to your right and pulling you to his abdomen so you could see for yourself.

Butterflies fluttered in your stomach as you rest against him, looking around the tree to observe the herbivore. The scientists call them hexapedes, their habits resemble those of deer.

They're fragile creatures, easily frightened but very protective of their young.

You watched it with admiring eyes, unaware that Tsuek was doing the same, but with you.

He glanced at the handmade jewelry adorning your wrist and neck, only two of many gifts you'd so sweetly accepted from him with a smile on your face.

You were comfortable with him, not shy to place your small five-fingered blue hand on his arm and share your curiosities. It drove him crazy.

He gave you a toothy grin when you jumped, gasping silently as the creature kicked one of its six hooves against the ground. You pouted, "Not funny-"

He hummed quietly, "Very funny."

He thought for a moment when you leaned your head against his chest, resuming your careful watch of the yerik.

He nudged you lightly, grabbing your hand in his and leading you elsewhere. "Za'u," golden eyes met yours as he glanced behind him.

You followed him, doing your best to keep up as his long strides. "Where are we going?" you questioned, slightly breathless as you hopped over a thick vine.

"You'll see, kal'in 'aw."

You were exhausted by the time he slowed down, legs aching but the pain tolerable in your avatar body. You took a breath in, only to have it knocked out of you as you registered where you were.

The Tree of Souls, you knew this place. Though you had only heard stories, you were familiar with it. It was a sacred place, deeply cherished by the Na'vi.

"It's- It's beautiful," you mumbled in awe, hand reaching out to let the glowing pink tendrils fall along the palm of your hand.

You turned to him and tilted your head, "Why did you bring me here?"

He looked at your big, confused eyes taking your hands into his larger ones.

"Oel ngati kameie, I see you," he said softly, looking at you as though he could see straight through to your very soul.

Your heart skipped a beat and you stepped closer, fingers tightening around his hands. "Oel ngati kameie," you repeated.

He leaned his head against yours, pressing a soft kiss against your lips which you returned just as gently.

Guys, please keep sending stuff like this, I love talking about the lore and world of Pandora!

Maybe calling it acidic was exaggerating on my part lol, but I know I read somewhere that the water, scientifically, wouldn't be good for humans. Sources vary depending on where you read them, but Pandoran water can damage human skin if exposed for too long. Something to do with the pH scale?

I'm gonna shamelessly plug in an excerpt from my fic (not because it's a viable source but just because. Bear with me):

Spider stood beside Max as Mo'at was handing him down some healing properties.

"Koaktutra," the tsahik placed a small wooden cup covered in a matching lid in Spider's hands.

Max noticed Kayla's confusion so he elaborates, "Goblin Thistle. Antibiotic balm."

Mo'at nodded to Max's explanation then handed another small mixture to Spider, "Pxorna'."

"Episoth," Max explained, "It's got amazing skin rejuvenation properties, and I think it'll help Spider when he goes into the water."

He takes the mixture from Spider and holds it up to the teenager's face, "As long as you remember to slather yourself in this stuff every night after a long day of swimming, it should help prevent skin cancer and chemical burns. These salves have proven to be safe for human use, I promise. If I happen to visit the island again and I don't see any changes to your skin, then maybe we'll be able to cut the episoth back to once a week and eventually even less so if your skin grows immunity to the pH levels. Until then, every night, bud. 'You got it?"

Spider huffs and rolls his eyes, "Yeah, yeah. I got it."

"Good. And just in case--" Max then holds up a remedy of his own, a small plastic yellow tube that makes Kayla snort with amusement at the sight of it. Sunscreen.

Spider's upper lip twitched at the sight of the tube and half glared at Max, "Seriously?"

"Humor me."

"Fine."

I pulled Mo'at's healing mixtures from the book "James Cameron's Avatar: An Activist Survival Guide."

Apparently, these specific plants or healing ingredients do help anti-aging back on Earth and go for a lot of money (no surprise there), so I guess there are SOME elements on Pandora that help humans.

If we think about what happens on Earth: our oxygen cycles through our water and eventually goes back up into the air. What about Pandora? If the air is toxic to humans, wouldn't that filter into the water as well?

Then again, James Cameron has admitted that he's constantly changing lore and canon so sources that were once accurate before might not be now.

And it's possible that Spider is immune to certain elements on Pandora since he was born and raised there. Or he's just got tougher skin. We already know that he's canonically strong, but who knows!

Sully Family Trip To Animal Kingdom

Please do not repost my work on any other publishing site, I worked very hard on it with some help. You can repost here if you wish so that it reaches more people and if anyone wants to draw the Sully Family Trip, feel free but please tag me so I can see it! Also, I do not own the avatar franchise or characters, I just write and post them as a fan of the franchise. I really do hope you enjoy it as it is my first fiction and I feel very proud of myself for actually going through with a fiction instead of just writing it down and forgetting about it completely! Enjoy and happy reading!

It was their first trip to Earth and Jake decided to take his family to Walt Disney World for their family vacation. They were all wearing matching shirts that say "Sullys Stick Together" on the front, and on the back; their names and a number representing their age. Jake already planned to visit Animal Kingdom first as he heard they have an area similar to their home on Pandora.

After they entered into Animal Kingdom; everyone's jaw dropped at the sight of all the trees and animals within the park. But Tuk was the most excited out of all the Sully children. She was pulling Jake to a churro stand and pointed excitedly and spoke with vigor and enthusiasm. "Daddy, Daddy! Can I have a churro please?" Jake looked back at Neytiri, who just nodded in agreement so she wouldn't have to hear her daughter cry that she didn't get one. "Alright baby girl, we can share one." She squealed in delight as she munched on the treat. Kiri, Lo'ak, and Neteyam smiled at their little sister and suggested they ride Flight Of Passage together as a family. "It's just like the real thing back at home sir." Lo'ak was the one who made the suggestion as he was climbing on top of a garbage can that was nearby; a cast member telling him it's not for climbing. Neteyam just shook his head as he laughed. "My baby bro, ever the spider monkey.", he gave Lo'ak a noogie. Kiri just rolled her eyes at their antics, "Quit fooling around and let's go. I want to ride Na'Vi River Journey."

As they waited in line for Flight Of Passage; Lo'ak kept climbing up on the displays and getting into trouble with the cast members. "Lo'ak, stop being so careless. This is not our home." Neytiri scolded him and made to pluck his eyes out. "I pray to the great other that I do not pluck the eyes of my youngest son!" Tuk was just excited to ride an ikran; though she's too young for a real one, this is enough for her.

"That was so much fun daddy!" Tuk loved Flight Of Passage. Neteyam held her on his hip as they headed to Na'Vi River Journey. "It definitely was fun. Especially seeing Payakan jump out of the water." Kiri smacked him upside the head, "That wasn't Payakan you Skxawng!" Neytiri saw this, "Hey! Don't slap your brother." Lo'ak just chuckled silently.

Their experience the Na'Vi River Journey was even more exciting for the family. "Ma Jake, I really enjoyed that one the best! Especially the Tsa'hik at the end." She hugged him tightly and gave him a kiss. Jake just smiled, knowing that his wife had an unforgettable experience. "I'm glad you had fun baby. Hey, where's Kiri?" He looked at the places nearby but couldn't find her. "Lo'ak, those vines are not for climbing!" He shouted at his youngest son who also had Tuk on his back.

Meanwhile Kiri was sat upon a rock with Neteyam by her side admiring the floating mountains. "I wonder how they get them to float like the ones back home." She was definitely fascinated by them. Neteyam just smiles and watches on in silence.

"Hey Neytiri! I found them!" Jake approached the two awestruck teens and pulled them out of their trance with a hug. "Your father and I were wondering where you went; now we know. Neytiri smiled and took a brief look at the mountains. "Come, we're all tired and need some rest." So the Sully Family left the park, with Tuk fast asleep in her brothers arms. They definitely had quite the adventure, and they couldn't wait to tell everyone back home.
