I’m thinking about getting a 99 (number form) somewhere on my forearm, maybe in blue? Like, a tiny blue 99 would be cute, right? But I’m also considering something more elaborate, I just don’t have any ideas cause I suck at creativity and I already have too many stuff written on my body cause every time I think tattoos I can only think quotes.

Fandoms I write for: Brooklyn Nine-Nine and some miscellaneous fandoms

Two-shot: Kiss Me Twice (’Cause it’s Gonna be Alright), the Jake/Amy/Charles polyamory fic that I got way too invested in.

Most popular multichapter: This Time is Different (I Really Think You Like Me), my Peraltiago amnesia story. So popular it got plagiarised lol.

Actual worst part of writing: Turning an idea into something with an actual structure.

How you choose your titles: Sometimes the perfect one just comes to me, but more often I trawl through song lyrics and end up with something slightly awkward.

Do you outline: Not really! I either write some incoherent notes on my phone or I just start writing. With longfics I eventually make chapter plans but they’re pretty light on the details (the note for the next chapter of Prospect Heights just says ‘Charles goes to LA, more sex’). For Welcome to New York I also made a colour-coded spreadsheet to keep all the POVs straight!

Ideas I probably won’t get to but it would be nice: I have some aforementioned incoherent notes for a tattoo artist!Jake / florist!Charles AU, but I have plenty of niche AUs to be getting on with. 

Best writing habits: I think I’m pretty good at writing for myself and not worrying too much about what other people might think (hence all the niche AUs and rarepairs).

Spicy opinions: I hate when people tag a relationship with a slash when it’s platonic! Not really a hot take, I just wish more people knew how the tags work.

I decided to go for no. 17 because the other one was fireworks which I am pretty sure is related to the 4th of July celebration but as a non-American I don’t really know all that much about it 😅 so I opted for soft summer rain. 🌦

17. Soft summer rain

Amy can't help but giggle at the sight in front of her. Her little boy, Mac, had his nose and hands pressed up against the window and his bottom lip was jutting out. He had never looked so glum. He was now officially 9 months old and he had already met a few of his first milestones. He could crawl, sit up unassisted and had started to babble a little. Most of the time it was a garbled mumble of vowels, but he had, much to Amy’s pride, learned how to say “Mama”, much to Jake’s annoyance as he was convinced he would get first word rights.

Right now, Mac was looking out at the soft summer rain that was falling down. It was far from the more gloomy, aggressive rainfall she had seen in the autumn and winter months. But either way, Mac, despite his young age, knew one thing. Rain meant no going out today.

He turned to Amy, his eyes wide, like he was pleading with her as if she could magically turn off the rain. Amy laughed, stroking his hair "Sorry, honey, the rain's here to stay". According to the forecast it was likely to last the whole day.

Mac looked back out the window. She quickly pulled out her phone and snapped a quick pic. She then sent it to Jake with the message "somebody wants to go out" and a sad face emoji. Today was her day to look after Mac while Jake was at work. Normally that involved putting him in a sling and going for a walk with him around the block right about now. If it were her and Jake's mutual day off they would maybe even go to the Grand Central Park where Mac would insist (through mass amounts of wriggling) to get out of the sling or his stroller and they’d let him crawl around in the grass for a little bit. Or, he'd take a few wobbly steps while holding their hand.

But now, the weather had cancelled any of their outdoor plans. Unless...

Just then an idea came into Amy’s head and she picked up Mac as he let out a whimper from being pulled away from the window. “Hang on, sweetie, I think your going to like this”  she mumbled. She brought Mac to and sat him down in the middle of his room and started to rummage through this little baby wardrobe. She knew it was in their somewhere. Eventually she found it. The little yellow raincoat and hat.

It was really meant for him when he was older and was a bit big on him when she finally wrestled him into it. But god, did he look adorable. Especially when she put him in the matching little rain boots. Once he was all dressed she stood back to admire the whole ensemble, her heart melted. She took another picture of him (honestly her camera roll was mostly all pictures of Mac now).

She lifted him up and grabbed her handbag on the way out, making sure that she had her keys. She definitely didn’t want to get locked out. Especially because she expected to get wet on this little endeavor. She donned her own raincoat and brought Mac downstairs to the ground floor and out the front door of her apartment block. The rain wasn’t that hard and was actually pretty gentle and the sun was still out despite it all. She went down the steps and set Mac down on the ground before taking his hand. Mac was seemingly unbothered by the rain and giggled as he reached out to try and grab the droplets.

“You happy?” Amy asked, beaming down at him. In response, Mac cried out “Mama!” gleefully. The one thing about “Mama” being his only known word meant it was also his word for everything. He said it when he was angry, sleepy, happy or fussy. But the way he said it was always an indication of how he was feeling. Right now Amy could tell he was happy. It also occurred to Amy that this was his first time out in the rain. Or at least his first time really experiencing it. Before when she or Jake had gotten caught in the rain with him they’d usually found some form of shelter. Or any coats or jackets they were wearing would be discarded and then held over his head to protect him.

But that had always been in heavy rain on dark days. Not this more gentle, sunshine rain.

As they toddled along, hand in hand, they eventually came to their first puddle, which Mac made a beeline for. He stopped abruptly at the edge of it and peered at down at it. “What do you think, Mac?” Amy asked, not being able to suppress her smile at his look of curiosity. Slowly, Mac raised his foot and placed it in the puddle. He then repeated the action more quickly.  He didn’t really know how to jump yet so instead he just resorted to stomping his foot in it, laughing harder and harder each time he did it. It was practically infectious. Amy soon found herself laughing too.

They kept on stopping to stomp in every puddle they came across. They went once around the block before finding themselves at their apartment, a little wet but very happy. Amy carried him back up, balancing him on her hip. Once they were safely back inside the warmth and comfort of the apartment she hung up their coats. It turns out that she had timed it perfectly since he usually took his nap right about now.

She changed Mac out of his slightly damp clothes and into his jammies, a little dinosaur-print onesie and gave him his pacifier. She then carried him into her own room and set him down on the bed, propping him up against the pillows. She quickly changed into a clean pair of pajama shorts and an old T-shirt, not wanting to leave Mac (who was an eager little crawler) up on the bed too long. Once she was done she scooped him up and carried him into the sitting room and settled down in front of the TV, turning on Sesame Street. Just as Big Bird was launching into a song that taught kids all about how to count to ten, Mac let out a big yawn from his place snuggled up on her chest.

Within a few minutes, he had dozed off. All worn out from the excitement of puddles and trying to catch the rain drops. Before he officially drifted off to sleep, she gently got up as to not rouse him and carried him to his crib. She eased him in and once he was officially down took a moment to rub his chubby cheeks with her finger.

She knew puddles were nothing special. But seeing Mac discover them for the first time was pretty (and she knew it was corny to say) magical. His pure curiosity and want to explore made her super proud in a way she never thought she could be.

She slowly crept out of the room. As she made her way down the hallway she realized she couldn’t hear the sound of the rain anymore. Once she was in the sitting room she saw from the window that the rain had finally stopped. In it’s place their was now a rainbow.

Somehow, Amy thought, that felt fitting.

Oliver Queen just finished five years in the Army Special Forces and is only working as an SCPD Detective because his best friend and fellow soldier, John Diggle, said it would be good for him to help pull his life together after years of hardships in the military. Oliver expected to hate the job, but what he never expected was meeting the IT girl with a heart of gold and her own demons to deal with.
