hi
Hi before I ask my question let it be said that I love your writing!!!!!
Anyways
so idk If you done thight but I'm just wondering what your headcanon(s) are for Flynn????
Hi hun!
Thanks so much, I am thrilled you like my writing!
So Flynn is not a character I feel strong writing, but I always have fun doing so, because I do love to write her a little sassy and snarky.
I write her with her parents being Marisol and Xavier-they are deeply healthy eaters (from the books) and a little out there, but they're good people. But Marisol is a *very* bad cook. And greatly disapproves of Flynn's seven soda habit.
I firmly believe Flynn goes into fashion design as a career-her outfits are just so creative and fun, I bet she'd have a ball designing her own stuff! And as a tribute to @bananakarenina I made her a big McQueen fan.
However, sometimes she does keep up managing the band, though she usually does it more for funsies than as a job-job.
I primarily ship her with Carrie, but I do enjoy writing her with pretty much everyone-the Julie/Reggie/Flynn ship is particularly fun! The only person I don't see her having much romantic/sexual chemistry with is Luke, but maybe that's just because it's a dynamic I haven't explored yet. Might be a fun challenge one day!
I like to think she and Willie would get along like gangbusters, and she would get a great thrill out of helping him do graffiti, even if spray paint isn't her forte. But they have fun shopping, discussing their very anti-establishment/authority views, and how hot their respective partners are. Plus they have a unique on the outside looking in part of the band.
Flynn totally runs the band's socials, but she hands Reggie off the Insta page after he takes better pictures than her. Alex has fun doing TikTok dances with her, and even though Luke doesn't get it, he gets into doing the band's tour vlogs.
Flynn can drive, but poorly, and she's definitely a speed demon. Willie's the only one who is willing to ride shotgun when she's behind the wheel. He tries to teach her to board, but she majorly sucks at that.
Flynn is *not allowed* to have coffee. They had an intervention about it and everything. There was banner that Reggie keeps on hand if she slips.
That's all I've got for now, but this was fun! Feel free to ask me for headcanons anytime!

HC’s on how the RFA & Saeran would react to MC being a fashion designer/someone who loves to sew
Kim Jihyun (V):
his mc wanted to challenge themselves by sketching out styles they usually didn’t use
they were thinking about nice and calm colors, but didn’t know how to get it on paper
they remembered v used to paint and asked him if he could teach them how to use watercolor
he was a little hesitant at first because he thought a professional would be better for them, but they insisted
during his break from selling his work, he’d be one of the many photographers taking pictures at mc’s fashion shows
FRONT ROW SEATS
he offered to be the photographer for some of mc’s photoshoots and the pictures he takes often make it to the cover page
let’s face it, he’s a genius
all of the models in mc’s fashion house that have worked with v have all said it was a great experience
mc is eternally grateful for his help
“Oh my gosh, Jihyun thank you so much. I love you I love you I love you” ;u;
sometimes he recites random poems to help mc think of new designs
he feels inspired by mc’s works and vice versa
they keep each other motivated during /artists/ block lol
Han Jumin:
mc had been quite busy lately and their maid had caught a cold
he had jaehee hire a temporary maid that would come the next day
so that evening, he was putting his and mc’s clothes away, but noticed mc didn’t have any tags on their clothes
he confronted mc when they got home and asked if they’d like the tags cut off for them whenever they got new clothes
for a moment mc was confused, but laughed and shook their head, telling him that they sew their own clothes
“Wait, then what about that dress you wore to the company party last month? I didn’t buy that one for you.”
“I made it myself.”
how had he not seen mc’s name in the list of the best designers he was given?????
makes mc his personal tailor
probably has them make Elizabeth 3rd clothes too
like cute little bows, booties, and dresses
mc even made the three of them matching outfits and they honestly looked like an adorable family omg /clenches heart/
“MC, how do you feel about creating a whole clothing line for cats?”
when he picked up cross-stitching as a hobby, he asked mc for advice
mc personally put the threads through the needles he planned to use
Kang Jaehee:
a bit surprised since around her, mc is always wearing casual, comfy clothes
she imagined designers dressing either formal and professionally or bold and colorful
sorry mc looked like a plain regular person like everybody else
mc does little things like repairing buttons and stitching up tears in her business attire and it just Warms. Her. Heart.
mc actually teaches jaehee the basics and they have fun sewing stuff together during their free-time
eventually when jaehee opens a café, mc surprises her with a bunch of wrapped gifts at the grand opening
flowers are overrated sorry
the boxes had table cloths, cleaning rags, oven mittens, aprons, curtains, and so much more all made by mc themselves
this darling almost cried
when did mc even have the spare time to sew all of these
it must’ve taken up so much time and energy
is forever grateful for the wonderful gift and all of mc’s hard work
Ryu Hyun (Zen):
one time he asked if they could design the costumes for one of the musicals he was starring in
the two of them would bounce off numerous ideas with one another, so the sketching phase wasn’t as stressful
he even tried sketching out a few designs himself
they had a bit of trouble choosing between ten, yes ten, different outfits because he LOOKS GOOD IN EVERYTHING
“Can’t you just wear all of them.”
“It’ll take too much time to change between scenes, plus the character doesn’t wear that many different outfits in this play. I’d love to wear all your designs though.”
zen wears the ones he doesn’t use in the musical, at home lol
not that mc minds tho cuz eye candy
he felt jealous when his mc had to take the other actors’ measurements and when they had costume fittings
he couldn’t help it. those guys were too close to them for his liking
he didn’t say anything about it, although he did get a little more clingy
enjoys being mc’s “mannequin” for sewing projects
“You can use me as your model any time!”
Choi Saeyoung (707):
he found out it was their career when he did the background check
would totally ask mc to sew outfits for cosplaying and his missions
when he notices mc stressing because of deadlines, he gives them silly and ridiculous ideas to make them laugh
is really helpful when mc needs to make important presentations for team meetings
he drew a few sketches in crayon and slipped them into one of mc’s folders lololol
at mc’s workplace, they were having a bad day and ended up bumping into one of their coworkers
mc happened to be holding some folders and a few of saeyoung’s sketches fell out
bending down to pick them back up, mc felt a smile tug at the corner of their lips
“Choi Saeyoung.”
uh oh mc’s holding his drawings and he panics
“MC, I’m so sorry. I was just joking around and-”
“Thank you.”
"What?"
HUGSSSSSSSSSSS and mc snuggles their face into his chest
O///////////O
error error Agent 707 has shut down
Choi Saeran:
one day, mc dragged him along with them to go out shopping for fabrics, threads, and all that
all the big bulks of fabric were making his nose itchy, but he didn’t mind if he was able to see mc happy
the elder ladies often pointed out how cute the two of them looked together and even teased them, asking when he was planning to propose
gaaaaah we’re just here to buy fabric
this precious marshmallow had this loving look in his eyes the entire time as he watched his precious squishy mc ramble on and on about different types of fabric, patterns, and colors
they sounded so cute and that little twinkle in their eyes had his heart racing
mc gave him a handkerchief as a gift before
it was a simple, white handkerchief with his initials and his favorite flower embroidered on one of the corners
it’s very special to him and he always makes sure not a single speck of dirt gets on it
Kim Yoosung:
when he finds out that mc is a famous designer, he starts to feel a little bit self-conscious about what he wears
he even debates on how he should style his hair, but mc reassures him that he looks fine just the way he is
when he doesn’t know if an outfit looks good or if he doesn’t know what to wear, he’d ask mc for advice
he loves it when they give him clothes that they had sewn as gifts
asks if mc could teach him how to sew and they start with hand-sewing
their apartment feels like a home ec class lmao
mc suggests they should start with sewing machines next
but yoosung's like nOPE sewing machines are for Professionals
tbh he’s just scared he might end up sewing his shirt and the fabric together and getting stuck
this little squish tried sewing a puppy stuffed animal for mc, but it turned out a little misshapen
he was too embarrassed to give it to them and hid it somewhere, but of course mc found it by accident and asked him what it was
he had no choice but to tell the truth. curse his luck hdhjshdj
mc thanks him and kisses him on the cheek
they now sleep with it whenever they go to bed, which makes yoosung kind of jealous lol
“MC why don’t you cuddle me instead?”

I beat Slayers X
Tumblr media
losers........ scroll away. u cant HANDEL how cool this game is....
Hypnospace Outlaw is one of my favorite indie games of all time (Slay the Spire is also up there, these two are the peak for me). When I found out there was a sequel I was hyped. It only took my brain... a little under a year to actually play it XD (I gave Hypnospace another playthrough a few days ago cause I never got 100% or did the Plus content so that helped). But giving me more hypnospace universe (the trennisverse, as I've heard) goodness in the form of a game created, in character, by Zane? Fucking Outstanding. I've never really been a boomer shooter guy, so this was like... technically my first one played? I had a blast the whole way through, regardless.
gameplay......
Again, never actually played with my own two hands a boomer shooter before, but of course I've watched Doom gameplay, I've played more modern FPSs. I knew what I was getting myself into, and it felt super easy to maneuver. The weapons were all really fun, and I actually got to feel like each one had its own use, although the Glass Blasta and the Rapid Mutilator were my personal favorites, for power and mobility reasons alike. I loved the map design, which wasn't constant enemies and perpetual combat like I was expecting. There was a lot of downtime that let me explore, see the details put into everything, and to look for secrets. That was my favorite part of the gameplay for sure, although I'm sure for some people they might not like those slower parts and how hard some of the secrets were to find. I know I struggled a bit on some, but I still liked it. I played on the normal difficulty, which felt like it gave me enough of a challenge and enough time to breathe. It was the perfect mix.
atmosfear....
The theming of the game was FUCKING perfect. Hypnospace crushed it with the vibe of early internet forums, and Zane was spot on for a stupid edgy 15 year old of the time. They already mastered the execution, and they got to expand on it further here. The misspellings, the nu metal soundtrack, the graphics, the toilet humor and crude but just innocent enough dialogue, it all gets the vibe exactly correct. Hell, even in real life, with Zane being the irl creator of the game, his twitter, and the way that he advertises his game is perfect. If you don't know what you're getting into, you're gonna think this game is stupid, and I know this cause I've seen quite a few people just not understand what the bit is, and the bit is 50% of the enjoyment of the game. I love it, though. Can't wait for more of this energy in the future.
musik (awsome)
Growing up in the 2000s with younger parents, the general nu metal genre and anything in that era is what I listened to growing up, so this shit is NOSTALGIC for me. I love every song in the game, I love how dirty and rancid it sounds, they literally already got it perfect in Hypnospace, and Slayers X just gives me even more of what I already love. When you're not in combat and you're just walking around, the rock takes a backside for this creepy atmospheric noise which really makes the levels, showing the dingy nature and the (literal) shit. The bonus levels have different soundtracks that get that Doom level sound perfect, which I really appreciated as well.
characterz... (Zane, the coolest guy, and those other idiots.....)
I LOVE how this game's cast feels. The in universe explanations for everything really enhances it. Zane is still that same immature child he was years ago, the game is full of his ego, but you can see in his like, dev dialogue, that he has in fact aged and mellowed out, which is really sweet and saddening to see. The same kid who made bullying pages is now a single dad who clearly loves his kid even if he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and is dealing with a lot of hardships in life. Like the original game, it's a surface of humor with a really deep inside. You get more of his character by seeing the rest of the cast. Mevin is creepy, obviously evil, definitely not inspired by anyone irl, and Zane's way of physically lashing out at his struggles. Steffanie literally sounds like there's 0 effort being put into her lines, and combined with the secret with Adam, the person that helped Zane code the game, showing annoyance yet still helping him shows that this dude is pathetic but... there's still something in him that makes people want to help him anyways. Mikey is also in on this, putting WAY more effort than anyone would ever need to in this game, but you can tell because of that that there's just something ABOUT Zane that people can't help but want to push him forward for some reason. Again, it's heartwarming and sad, and I love that.
the rest, ig uess...
I don't really know what else to say that I haven't already said; I love this game. It gives me more of what I loved out of Hypnospace, although hyperspecified to Zane (not complaining)
I DO HAVE TO ADMIT THOUGH, I HAVE A SERIOUS BIAS CAUSE ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS HELPED MAKE IT AND I LOVE TO SEE HER WORK, SHE MADE SOME OF THE LEVELS AND SOME OF THE SOUNDTRACK AND SHE'S SUPER COOL AND AWESOME AND SKILLED SHOUTOUTS TO @headachelikeapillow YOU'RE THE BEST
I got a little easter egg in the game which is super cool :) It warms my heart to see my name lead into a fuckin saw chamber (that has literally stopped every streamer I've ever seen play that level in their tracks, it's hilarious)
Tumblr media
sorry if I'm breaking an nda you can kill me if you need
Anyways, with that aside;
10/10. BADASS GAME MADE BY THE AWESOMEST DUDE AROUND.... HELL BE RICH AND FAMOUS FOR SURE AND GET ALL THE GIRLS (LIKE HE DOESNT ALREADY BWL)

I’m going through an unpredicted depth year. My deck collection has grown a lot over the past years, and I have reached a point where I just want to spend long, quality time with those decks I already know and love. That is why the additions to my collection (and hence, reviews for you) have slowed down: I’m being extremely selective of what comes into my shelf. One of those newer additions is a deck I’ve been working with for a while now: The Meraki Tarot, by Kerri Snook at Bouchette Design.
This deck, which speaks directly to my heart chakra, features the classic 78 tatot cards plus one extra major called The Meraki. On top of that, we find 8 extra oracle cards with concepts like yes, no, apathy or aspiration.  Aside from those, and since it doesn't come with an included traditional booklet, it has 14 extra guide cards that work as a condensed guidebook. One of them is an introductory & thank you card, followed by astrological signs, solar system associations, crystal and tarot associations, astrological and elemental major arcana associations, and keywords for all of the cards - including the oracle cards. So, while not in booklet format, you get tons of information in your deck box.
This is clearly an animal deck, but it also contains a lot of other natural elements (like plants) that may be missing in other animal decks. Besides, the crystals tie in each card theme. There are a few instances of humans or human-made elements, such as a hot-air balloon, or the hands in the aces. Even if it can be logically thought as an earthy deck, it feels very airy to me. This is due to the artwork, which is very spacious, giving you a lot of room to feel, think intuitively, and find a spot for yourself in each cards. There is a combination of light colours (usually in the background) and darker shades that create contrast to draw your eyes in.
Tumblr media
Though airy, there is a strong sense of texture (and here I have to mention the wonderful clouds!). The animals in the cards have their own strength and presence, but at the same time, they all feel very soft in their way of conveying messages. Even in more challenging cards, like the eight of swords (with a ladybug trapped in an orb weaver spider web), there is a balance – so that even in the darkest situations there is a sense of connection and natural flow to be found. The cards are beautifully designed, featuring a botanical back, and gorgeous matte green edges. The cards are borderless, and have a soft rose petal finish. It comes in a sturdy two-piece box done with a matte finish and spot-gloss designs.
Aside from the deck, Kerri has created the Meraki Workbook for tarot and crystal work. This is a juicy softcover book, standing at 225 pages, an excellent tool for exploring this deck in depth. It starts with a letter from Kerri, and follows up with the sections: working with the Meraki tarot, working with crystals and tarot, how to use the workbook, layouts, tarot keywords, crystal keywords, numerology, symbology, astrology, elemental insights, defining divination, defining crystal work; and in page 40 it starts with the tarot cards themselves, with an introduction to the major arcana and a two-page spread for each card. This spread features the number and title of the card, associations, light and dark keywords and extended messages, and a section to take notes on your own interpretations, reflections, and tarot and crystal notes, finishing with an affirmation. What I really like is that this whole spread is repeated for the minors and oracle cards, and not something exclusive of the majors. This book is an engaging tool for beginners, but it’s also fantastic for those who want to introduce crystal associations into their practice, adding another layer to their knowledge. The book is exquisite in its production, including matching green edges like those on the cards.
The Meraki Tarot is a fun and enchanting deck that reminds us of the flow of nature, its gentleness and its power. The illustrations feel comforting to the eyes and to the heart, and they do a great job at conveying their messages. It can be described as an animal and crystal deck, but one in which cards you can easily find a place to accommodate yourself. Though the book is not a necessity to work with the deck (as the text cards feature a lot of information) it is a fantastic tool to both learn or explore more about the cards themselves, but also how they engage with the energy of crystals. If you want to know more, head over Bouchette Designs to learn more about Kerri Snook’s work!

I wanted to stretch my character design muscles and draw all the x-men’s blonde ladies since they are famously hard to differentiate, but it turns out a good chunk of that list is Guthries. Fortunately, designing siblings is also a fun character design challenge.
This ended up involving quite a bit of headcanoning because this family is a mess, so I’m gonna explain them all below the cut.
Sam was very easy, he’s even the one Guthrie kid with a clear birth order as the canonical Eldest. I mainly just wanted to capture his New Mutant’s design with his less gangly modern look.
Paige was the only Guthrie I’d drawn before, so I just used the drawing of her from the Gen X line-up I did forever ago. She’s been called out as the second eldest before,
-but Elizabeth has been mentioned to be specifically older than Paige. In the end I decided to commit to neither option and make them twins who constantly argue over who was born first. My friend swayed me that she should be trans given the whole hormone based power thing, so I ended up having to switch her from identical to fraternal at the last minute.
Jay’s order in line has never been clear, but he’s usually drawn as among the older group so here he is. I found a panel where he had a cute cowlick and liked how it seemed like he had a kinda bird-like nose, so that was most of the thought in his design.
Joelle’s one spotlight moment is joining an anti-mutant hate group because she was jealous that all her siblings were more special than her, which is a very middle child move of her so she’s right in the middle. I decided to play up how similar she looks to Melody, just to add even more reason she’d rebel like that.
Melody was very easy, her age was never specified but given that her age varies from quite young to being in the highschool group, I figured it was safe to put her on the older end of the younger half of the family.
A big problem with plotting out the whole Guthrie family is that Sam’s said there’s 10 Guthrie kids with him included, but only 9 have been named on page. Which seems like it has a pretty easy solution if you just include Ray Holder Jr because Sam considers his Mom’s boyfriend’s son a sibling in his count. I mean, that’s something that happens in the real world. Plus, kid died so I think he deserves it.
Jeb’s design has been all over the place. Does he have glasses? Does he have freckles? Is his hair strawberry blonde, red, or brown? I’m committing to glasses, freckles, and blonde hair just because I figure that makes him the most distinct. At least he’s pretty easy to place as closest in age to Ray and not the youngest.
Lewis and Cissie Guthrie are the two youngest and twins. I’d argue they're even more trans-coded than Liz, given that they're identical but different genders. The only interesting thing either have done is that Lewis got injected with necrotized DNA by the Dark Beast once and nearly died, so he gets to keep some scars from that to give him something to visually stick to.

A Non-Exhaustive List of Stuff to Watch During the Strike
Everybody has a backlog of things to watch, but for everyone who is like me and routinely looks at that backlog and goes "but none of those hundred things sound interesting right now", here are some recommendations.
If You Have…
NETFLIX
Avatar The Last Airbender: Animated/Fantasy; 3 seasons; A teenage chosen one reawakens 100 years into the war he’s meant to stop. If you somehow are on Tumblr and haven’t seen this show, give it a try now.
Cunk on Earth: Documentary; 1 season; A very serious documentary that very seriously tells the story of the history of human progress.
Glow Up (2019): Competition; 4 seasons; Aspiring makeup artists compete for opportunities in the industry.
Nailed It! (2018): Competition; 7 seasons; Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres laugh with people who are not bakers as they try to bake extremely complicated desserts in less time than professionals could do it.
Wynonna Earp (2016): Western Horror; 4 seasons; The cursed descendant of famous lawman Wyatt Earp hunts demons in a small Canadian town alongside her (canonically bisexual) little sister, a US Marshall, an immortal Doc Holliday, and a (canonically lesbian) local cop.
HULU
Domino Masters (2022): Competition; 1 season; A competition show where teams build Rube Goldberg devices primarily focusing on dominos.
Holey Moley (2019): Competition; 3 seasons; Increasingly ridiculous mini golf holes where the ball can go into a water hazard but the people go in much more frequently.
Lego Masters (2020): Competition; 3 seasons; Teams of two build complex Lego designs based on each week’s theme.
Primeval (2007): Sci-Fi; 5 seasons; British scientists and government officials discover fluctuating portals to various time periods, which release dinosaurs and other creatures into the modern day. You’ll watch the first season and go “idk why this is considered good” and then all the other seasons will happen.
DISNEY PLUS
DuckTales (2017): Animated/Adventure Comedy; 3 seasons; A reboot of the 80s show of the same name, but with better character development and better treatment of its female characters.
The Owl House (2020): Animated/Horror Comedy; 3 seasons; An Afro Latina human girl is on her way to summer camp to be taught “normalcy” when she goes through a portal and finds herself in the Demon Realm. She decides that it’s way better than camp and stays. Friendship, family, love, and PTSD ensue.
MAX
Baking Championships: The Baking Championships (Kids Baking Championship, Halloween Baking Championship, Holiday Baking Championship, Spring Baking Champion Championship) are all a nice heartwarming fun time.
The Great Pottery Throw Down (2015): Competition; 5 seasons; You know how chill and fun GBBO is? Imagine that but with pottery.
CRUNCHYROLL
RWBY (2013): Animated/Fantasy; 9 seasons; A group of girls join a school to train for hunting monsters and fighting crime with cool weapons that are usually some sort of melee weapon and also a gun. The animation gets better with every season.
NO STREAMING SERVICES
Board Game Club: An ongoing series on the No Rolls Barred YouTube page; a bunch of people get together and play board games. This probably sounds like it would be boring but it is absolutely fantastic.
Critical Role: YouTube; 2 completed campaigns, 1 ongoing; A group of voice actor friends get together to play Dungeons and Dragons. Increasingly well-produced over time.
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries: 100 episodes; An adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that takes place entirely over vlogs. Very funny, handles the confines of a vlog setting fairly well, and Ashley Clements (Lizzie) is fabulous.
Video Game YouTubers: Particularly Let’s Plays, speedruns, and challenges. I personally enjoy Pokemon challenges like by FlygonHG, and Super Mario Odyssey Hide and Seek by a bunch of different Mario streamers is great fun.

7, 20, and 28 for the ask meme!
Thanks!^^
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
Everything about traditional art (like watercolors, oil, pastel, street art etc. hell even colored pancils) fascinates me as much as it gives me anxiety. I love touching finished canvases, feeling them in my hands, love looking through sketchbook pages, love the smell of paint and markers, love learning about different techniques, love watching others working on their pieces, but I can't do it myself to safe my life (unless it's plain pencil or pens). For some reason my eyes and hands become very sensitive, textures of some materials make me wanna explode and I get overwhelmed real fast, so I can't really enjoy it. That's why I'm sticking to digital art lol Also, sculputre and 3D modeling are Amazing but I dunno if I'll ever try any of it, cause it looks haaard :p
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
Hhhm, I dunno. Maybe, facial expressions? I too can find it not easy to depict a certain microexperession or convey the exact emotion, but when it happens I only get more excited and joyful. I love challenging myself when it comes to drawing difficult expressions - especially if I'm "limited" by the specifics of character design, like the clones, who don't have actual eyebrows and visible pupils (plus they literally have the same face)
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
Well, I've participated in Secret Santa events for artist both irl and online, it's super fun and wholesome^^
Oh and I remember back in 2018 there were weekly art challenges in one russian YandereSim fan group. Yeah the game is controversial and problematic af, but the fandom was nice and those weekly events motivated me to practice more :)
I also love Entrapdak Positivity Month, definately going to participate again! Aaand I was a part of the second Entrapdak Zine this year. Wish I could participate in the other two, but since those were early summer zines and the period from March to July is always the busiest for me it's was nearly impposible. Hopefully there're more fandom events coming soon, I'm very excited and ready to make more art!

Week 6
Tumblr media
I dunno what week I'm editing this blog post from. I made changes to the racing game created in the workshop so I have nothing left to show but screenshots after the modifications.
But since the racing game we're making is 2D and focuses on moving on the x and y axis, it should be easy to turn a Racing game into a Rhythm game. Plus, you can't do much in a racing game. (I CAN'T THINK OF ANY FUN STUFF TO ADD IN A 2D RACING GAME)
Elevator Pitch:
Game name - Notes Of Spring Sunlight:
In this 2D RPG game, the player will play a character who lost its memories in a world reigned by a tyrant and music equates with evil by the secular due to the tyrant's manipulation. The player will march on an adventure to reclaim the memories while defeating the monsters with musical instruments. To damage a monster, the player has to play a chart (Rhythm Game) and try to play a full combo to maximize the damage. Correspondingly, they'll need to defend a random chart when the monster gets a turn.
(I'm not a mobile game player, but I got into BanG Dream! Girls Band Party earlier this month, this is the main inspiration for my idea)
Figure 1. 『Non buresu oburīju』 MyGO!!!!!(Difficulty:EXPERT)【Garu Pa Purei Doga】 by Bang Dream Channel (JP)
Tumblr media
Note. From 『ノンブレス・オブリージュ』 by BanGDream Channel, 2024 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vtUVjc_A5E)
Different kinds of music notes in BangDream:
Blue note - Tap
Blue note in two - Double Tap
Green note - Hold
Green note across different columns - Slide
Gold skill notes - enables character skills
Pink note - Flick
Given that 2D racing games primarily entail manoeuvring through obstacles across four lanes using keyboard inputs for left and right movements, turning it into a rhythm game gives a broader scope for gameplay innovations and experience to create further content.
To make this more entertaining, I involved Turned-Based RPG elements into it. You see, whenever you play a rhythm game, you always select a chart in the menu and play it to get higher scores only, there's very few games that consist story-telling element with the rhythm gameplay itself. Integrating a rhythm game into an RPG cover would make it more amusing as you'll need to compete with yourself trying to get the highest score while duelling with an enemy; additionally, it gives more immersive aspects to the game.
Here's what I've created via GDevelop 5
Figure 2. Notes of Spring Sunlight Demo
Tumblr media
In this prototype, there are only four columns and one note type in the sheet. At the moment, I've only developed the musical gameplay mechanics, without incorporating visual elements like note striking animations or judgment levels. Additionally, the RPG elements such as character selection, skills, and health bars have yet to be implemented.
The current idea is that the score and combo count will be stored as variables to calculate the damage dealt/taken.
Counter-chain design:
Figure 3. Counter-chain design
Tumblr media
To gain advantages at the player's turn, the game encourages players to switch between different instruments to deal higher damage against enemies. If possible, I'd like to create a unique chart for each instrument per song to make the game more challenging, this way, players will need to take more time to memorise the charts.

Get Ready for the Release of Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory
Tumblr media
Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory is a brilliant open ended puzzle game with a Demo for Linux and Windows PC. Hats off to the team at Pill Bug Interactive for making this happen. Available to try out now on Steam. I’ve got some exciting news, Pill Bug Interactive, an indie studio from Wales, has just announced the release date for their newest title, Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory. Mark your calendars for July 18, 2024, since that’s when it’s hitting Steam. What’s it all about? It’s a brilliant open ended puzzle title that takes place in a post-apocalyptic chocolate factory. One where you get to play around with creating your own machines. Such as launching nuts into melted chocolate or smashing caramel into bite-size pieces. That’s the kind of fun stuff you’ll be doing. Your task in Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory is to automate chocolate production. But doing so using different components to make some amazing machines. And the best part? It’s satisfying to watch and even more fun to tweak and optimize. The game uses physics to simulate everything, so it’s pretty easy to see how your creations are doing. But trust me, once you start, it’s hard to stop! You’ll probably want to keep improving your designs or maybe even show them off to friends.

Pill Bug Interactive is also giving Linux gamers the tools to create your challenges with the same level editor they use. And with Steam Workshop support from day one, you can share your brilliant puzzles with the community. There’s even a leaderboard for each level to see how your designs stack up against others. If Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory is something you’d enjoy, you can help support the title by adding it to your Wishlist on Steam and following the store page. This lets the developers know you're keen and helps push it closer to launch. Plus, the demo is available right now on Steam, with support for Linux and Windows PC. Remember, Pill Bug Interactive is an award-nominated studio with innovative and fun games. And Captain Contraption’s Chocolate Factory is their fourth release. So, why not add the title to your wishlist, try out the demo, and tell us your thoughts? Let’s get ready to build some amazing chocolate-making machines!

Sustainable Marketing Practices Strategies for Ethical…
Sustainable Marketing Practices Eco-Friendly Campaigns for the Modern Marketer
Ready to chat about a topic that’s burning up the digital landscape sustainable marketing. We’re not just talking about throwing some earthy tones on your website (although, hey, that can’t hurt!). We’re going to talk about crafting ethical and eco-friendly digital campaigns that resonate with today’s conscious consumers – and help your brand shine bright.
Why Sustainable Marketing Matters?
Before we dive into the strategies, let’s take a moment to understand why sustainable marketing is so important. As consumers become increasingly aware of environmental issues, they’re looking for brands that align with their values. By incorporating sustainable practices into your marketing efforts, you can
Attract eco-conscious customers
Differentiate your brand from competitors
Improve your brand reputation
Reduce your environmental impact
Let’s Get Practical Actionable Tips for Sustainable Marketing
Alright, enough with the why, let’s get to the how! Here at Orion Digital, we’ve been putting our heads together to brainstorm some actionable tips you can integrate into your next marketing campaign
Content is King (and Queen of Sustainability)
Forget the clickbait and focus on creating informative, engaging content that educates your audience about sustainability. Think beyond blog posts. Develop creative content formats like video explainers showcasing sustainable practices within your industry. Host interactive webinars with sustainability experts, or even create engaging social media challenges that encourage eco-friendly behaviour. Imagine a fun Instagram challenge where users share tips on reducing single-use plastics at home. Not only is it informative, but it fosters a sense of community and brand interaction.
Know the Power of Email (Done Right)
Mass email blasts are a digital dinosaur. Segment your audience based on interests and tailor your content accordingly. This not only reduces unnecessary emails floating around in the digital void (saving energy!), but it also boosts engagement as recipients are more likely to find your content valuable.
Think Green When it Comes to Design
Heavy visuals and excessive animations might look snazzy, but they can also guzzle up energy.  Here’s where you can get creative! Opt for a clean, optimized website design that uses eco-friendly fonts (yes, those exist!) and reduces server load by optimizing image sizes and implementing lazy loading techniques. Every little bit counts! Don’t be afraid to experiment with a minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes user experience and functionality.
Partner Up for Positive Impact
Collaborate with eco-conscious influencers or organizations!  This isn’t just about expanding your reach; it allows you to leverage their expertise and amplify your sustainability message. Partner with local sustainability groups for a community clean-up event and document it on social media, or team up with an eco-influencer to create a co-branded product or service that gives back to environmental causes. The possibilities are endless!
Incorporate Sustainable Messaging
Finally, don’t be afraid to incorporate sustainable messaging into your digital campaigns. Highlight your brand’s eco-friendly practices, educate your audience about environmental issues, and encourage them to make sustainable choices in their own lives. Just be sure to avoid greenwashing – make sure any claims you make about sustainability are accurate and backed up by real action.
Optimize for Mobile
Mobile devices are more energy-efficient than desktop computers, so optimizing your digital campaigns for mobile can help reduce your environmental impact. Plus, with more and more people accessing the internet via their smartphones, optimizing for mobile is simply good marketing practice. Make sure your website and landing pages are mobile-friendly, and consider using mobile-specific ad formats like in-app ads or SMS marketing.
Beyond the Campaign Building a Sustainable Brand
Sustainable marketing goes beyond crafting a single green campaign. It’s about integrating eco-friendly practices into the core of your brand identity. Here’s how
Build Transparency
Consumers are savvy; they can sniff out greenwashing a mile away. Be transparent about your sustainability efforts, even the not-so-perfect bits. Share your eco-journey with your audience, outlining your goals, the challenges you face, and the progress you’re making.  Authenticity is key to building trust.
Rethink Your Resources
Take a critical look at your marketing materials. Can you eliminate unnecessary brochures and flyers?  Explore digital alternatives like e-documents and interactive presentations. When physical materials are necessary, opt for recycled paper and eco-friendly printing processes.  There are even seed paper options that sprout wildflowers when planted, adding a unique touch to your marketing collateral.
Consider Your Carbon Footprint
Business travel is a significant contributor to carbon emissions. Explore video conferencing options for meetings and prioritize local partnerships whenever possible. There are also carbon offset programs you can participate in to compensate for unavoidable emissions.
The Future of Sustainable Marketing A Collaborative Effort
Building a sustainable future requires a collective effort. Here’s how you can contribute.
Support Sustainable Businesses
Make a conscious effort to partner with vendors and suppliers who share your commitment to sustainability. This strengthens the overall sustainability message within your industry.
Advocate for Change
Use your brand voice to advocate for environmental responsibility. Support relevant policies and legislation that promote sustainable practices.
Inspire Others
Share your sustainability journey with other businesses.  Host workshops or participate in industry events to raise awareness and inspire others to adopt eco-friendly marketing practices.
Remember Transparency is Key!
While these tips are a great starting point, the most important thing is to be genuine. Don’t just jump on the green bandwagon – make sure your sustainability efforts are reflected in your entire business operation. Share your eco-journey with your audience,  even the not-so-perfect bits. After all, progress over perfection, right?
At Orion Digital, we believe in marketing that’s good for your business and good for the planet.  If you’re looking for help crafting a sustainable digital strategy, we’d love to chat!  Get in touch with our team of experts, and let’s get your green marketing mojo flowing.

8 CSS Snippets for Creating Bento Grid Layouts
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/8-css-snippets-for-creating-bento-grid-layouts/
8 CSS Snippets for Creating Bento Grid Layouts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another day, another design trend! Bento grid layouts are the subject this time around. They’re bold and beautiful. Plus, they satisfy those with a need for symmetry.
So, what exactly is a Bento layout? Think of it as a puzzle. Different-sized containers fit together to create a seamless look. Inspired by Japanese culture, it’s popping up all over the web.
There’s good reason for Bento’s growing popularity. You can use these layouts in a multitude of ways. Everything from listing blog posts to product features is possible. They’re also perfect for dashboard screens.
We should also mention the role that the evolution of CSS has played. Both CSS Grid and Flexbox make these layouts easier to build. No hacks or workarounds are necessary!
With that, here’s a look at 8 beautiful Bento grid layouts.
Complex Bento CSS Grid Layout
CSS Grid packs a lot of power into a tiny bit of code. For example, this complex grid layout requires only 43 lines of CSS. The layout is both efficient and naturally responsive. Therefore, you won’t have to play around with media queries.
See the Pen Complex Bento Layout
Bento-Style Responsive Dashboard
Here’s a gorgeous dashboard layout that benefits from Bento. The layout offers a great way to display relevant content. Everything is neatly organized and easy to follow. The use of photography and color makes this example stand out.

Bento Design Concept Layout
This page layout is a different take on the Bento aesthetic. There’s a sidebar featuring in-page navigation. Clicking a button expands it. Meanwhile, the content container maintains a consistent height.

Bento-Box-V1.0.1
Bento layouts also benefit from minimalism. This layout features fewer bells and whistles. Notice the use of white space and legible typography. The animated charts catch your eye without being overwhelming.

Sticky Bento on Scroll
This “sticky” presentation adds special effects to the mix. Watch how certain elements stick as you scroll. The idea is that you can go beyond static grids. Bento can be fun, too!

Bento Grid Using CSS Flexbox
Let’s check out another fun example using Flexbox. This grid has a neon look and includes cool hover effects. Bonus points here for maintaining legibility and responsiveness.

Card-Based Layout with Gradient Borders
Here’s an example for those wanting to stand out from the crowd. This card-based layout features animated borders, “wipe” effects, and beautiful hover styling. The layout remains clean – even with all those goodies.
See the Pen Cards (gradient border) by Dan
CSS Grid & :has() Grid Layouts
We can achieve a lot with the CSS :has() pseudo-class. This example uses it to adjust the layout as boxes are added and subtracted. Watch as the layout maintains perfect symmetry throughout.

Use Bento Grids to Keep Your Layout Nice and Tidy
The idea of using Bento aesthetics in web design isn’t new. However, older CSS layout techniques made them difficult to build. That’s no longer the case.
Perhaps the best part is that modern CSS does all the dirty work. We don’t need to compute complex calculations. CSS Grid and Flexbox can do this for us.
That leaves us free to experiment. The examples above demonstrate what is possible. And you can get as creative as you like.

KiwiRPG at the Auckland games fair - A Post Mortem
Last weekend I had the privilege of running the kiwiRPG booth at the Auckland Cancer Society Games Fair, and I’m pleased to say that it went really well! We had plenty of players, designers, and members of the public stop by and chat about the organisation and tabletop games in general. A huge relief considering that it was just me at the booth all weekend, that I had never done anything like this before and was anxious as hell, and the fact that half the stuff that we were planning on having at the booth didn’t arrive in time (cheers to NZ couriers for that fun little headache).
From this experience, I have gained numerous insights, immeasurable wisdom, and a laundry list of shit that I am going to do differently next time.
There is almost nothing you can’t fix with tape (and Post-it notes)
It is honestly fucking comical how many problems got solved with tape and Post-it notes. People joke about this all the time, but it’s TRUE. Signage? Taped Post-it notes. Keeping boxes together? Tape. No business cards? Post-it note. Need someone’s details? Write it on a Post-it note. Sign keeps falling over? Tape that sucker UP. If our biggest supporter for the weekend was the Cancer Society, our biggest second supporter was the unextraordinary office products of paper plus.
I suffered for my hubris (not bringing enough food)
Every con guide tells you to bring enough food and drink. This is not new advice. However, I am (famously) a bit of a dumbass and thought, “I’ve worked shitty restaurant jobs without eating anything for longer hours; this’ll be nothing,” skipped breakfast and brought a single bag of chips with me. Unsurprisingly, I was hungry as hell by hour three of the first day and, with the only options around being out of my budget, I just had to deal with it. Learn from my mistakes and make some sammies before the event.
They stopped for the pretty books and stayed for the one-pagers
We had a decent selection visible at the booth, but the big standout was Dave Elvy/Imaginary Empire’s games, which had fancy colourful covers and a strong reputation (several people recognised them from a distance). Lots of folks walked up primarily to take a look at them, thinking I was the designer, before I explained what KiwiRPG was about.
Once they did walk up though, many people stuck around to read the one-page games and take some with them. Usually, the conversation involved me gushing about what one-page games are and the design freedom they represent, to which they would say, “Ooh, like Honey Heist, right?” to which I’d shrug and say, “Yeah, pretty much.”
The lesson here is that while not visually striking enough to draw people on their own, one-page games make great handouts and conversation starters at events like this.
People fucking LOVE business cards
We were meant to have pamphlets to hand out with our details, but unfortunately, they didn’t arrive in time. Dale, however, was very clever and sent a stack of business cards with his games. These flew off the table like hotcakes. I don’t know how I feel about them from a wastage standpoint, but it seems like having a solid stack of business cards or pamphlets is basically essential for doing stuff like this.
There’s a lot to be gained by teaming up with other creators in the industry
Talking specifically about boothing together at cons here. I got to chat with a boatload of other creators throughout the weekend, and the one thing that almost always came up was the challenges that tend to come up with events like this. There were two things that were mentioned pretty consistently:
Booths are prohibitively expensive. The Cancer Society were incredibly generous in allowing folks to have a presence at the event for free (only asking that 20% of sales go to the charity), but this is far from the norm. Most cons charge up to 1000 bucks or more to have a booth, exceeding what most small creators can reasonably afford.
Eftpos machines are also super expensive but basically necessary if you want to sell anything. At least in New Zealand, cash is becoming increasingly uncommon payment-wise, and many cons lack an ATM. The price to rent an Eftpos machine can run up to a couple hundred dollars a day and, if you’re mainly selling 5$ - 20$ zines/books, anything less than a total success will leave you sitting at a loss.
I think both of these problems could be solved by getting a bunch of us together to share a space, possibly as a “KiwiRPG Creators” booth. It’d be a way to enable a bunch of people to show off their stuff who’d usually be unable to.
Giveaways should be dead simple
Before the event, I came up with a microgame to do giveaways. It was fun, sort of interesting, and entirely too complicated for what we were doing. After trying it with a few people, I quickly realised that people check out if a giveaway takes more than two sentences to explain. In the end, I stripped it down to its bare essentials and that ended up being much better. Unless you’re really clever, don’t do anything fancy for stuff like this.
The conclusion
The fair was a good time. We spread the good word of KiwiRPG and made some new mates. Yeah.
