PMD Special Episode 0 Romhack: Secret Cutscene!
NOTE: This post will contain minor spoilers for the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky games as well as a romhack based off of it: Special Episode 0: In a Dark Past Well. This wasn't exactly what I expected for my first post, but I sure as hell ain't complaining! I'm making this post since I discovered something that I haven't seen posted anywhere, so I thought I might as well share it. Sorry if it's a little long! First off, a bit of context: Thanks to numerous fanart, I've begun playing a PMD romhack called Special Episode 0: In a Dark Past. It's a romhack of the Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky games specifically, delving deeper into the backstories of two of its characters: Grovyle and Dusknoir. As a massive PMD EoS fan, I've been enjoying it so far! Highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of these games or characters and the writing is great! You can check out the creator's Twitter here, the hack download should be in a pinned post: https://twitter.com/PKMM_ESPEP0 It was when I got to a fight with a Vespiquen and her Combee that I got a little curious. Before I picked up this hack, I'd already watched a short playthrough of it and knew that you were supposed to lose this fight to continue the story (Vespiquen is ridiculously strong and uses Silver Wind, which basically kills you from anywhere). But I wondered if it was possible to beat it. After all, I had a lot of stun seeds by this point, and Duskull knew both Disable and Hypnosis which could stall the Vespiquen.
Tumblr media
So I did. Though I must first confess, I didn't do it 100% legitimately. I don't own a DS, so I play all my games using emulators, including both PMD EoS and this romhack. Thus, I was able to save right before the battle so I wouldn't have to reset and go through the entire dungeon every time I lost. So while I did manage to beat the Vespiquen fair and square from start to finish, I did do a couple resets to save time. But that's not what I made this post for. After beating the Vespiquen, I unlocked a secret cutscene! I haven't seen anyone share this before, so I thought I might as well put this out there for anyone who is curious. For anyone who's read this far, thank you so much, and here it is! (It's quite long at about 7 minutes, but it's totally worth the watch!)
Thanks for reading through this one hell of a first post! Like I said, I really love PMD and from the little I've experienced, this romhack is just as beautifully written. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven't! I wonder if I should start posting PMD fanart of my own...

@heropartnerweek Day 5: Treeshroud Forest
I'll admit, the Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team game wasn't my first PMD game I played. Rather, PMD2 was my first exposure to the amazing story telling that is the mystery dungeon series.
It's this reason alone that I decided to draw Treeshroud Forest. Not to mention gives me an excuse to draw Grovyle again (it's been too long buddy). Iris and Mizuno do be looking a bit concerned regarding the Time Gear (then again, they shouldn't be if you remember why).

Friend and I went on a ramble about our PMD ocs last night (We’re possibly going Explorers of the Sky route with it) and we just got into this whole thing abt how my oc would be so uncanny to the pokemon around them because this human doesn’t wake up as a Riolu or an Eevee.  No. They wake as a straight up Miraidon. And EOS was a very early on game, which means there are not near as many pokemon in its world as there are in S&V, and they certainly don’t have anything like Miraidon.
But it’s not just the being a never before seen pokemon that would throw the inhabitants of the world off, it would be the fact that this is an honest to Arceus futuristic robot pokemon made up of technologies that are completely new to the pokemon of this specific world.  This is just some random human teen trapped in the body of a Miraidon, which makes it worse, because they don’t know how their own body works because nobody has heard of Miraidon in the specific timeline they’re from (They still come from Paldea). So they wake up in a completely new form, unable to control their tail (which I made prehensile for fun reasons) and not at all used to being on all fours. Their progress of power works the same as it did for the canon Miraidon in Violet, which is that they wake up on the beach in a completely weakened state, and slowly get stronger as the journey goes on.
And it instills this fear in every pokemon around them that they might have accidently welcomed an unawakened legendary into their town, and what do you know, being loved by others and joining a guild was exactly what they needed to get nurtured enough to unleash their powers. It’s hard to be scared of the kid, though, once they get used to them- How are you supposed to look into these eyes and be scared?

While the power was out from the hurricane I ended up playing super mystery dungeon and cause I had so much fun with it but my 3DS hurts my hands so bad I went and started play pmd sky again on an emulator and I'm still fucking bewildered about the protagonist's backstory in that game. It makes almost no fucking sense.
Why in a world with no humans and (in the broader series which is hunted at to be linked together) where humans occasionally come from another world and turned into Pokemon is there just some random ass human with a psychic superpower chilling out in a defunct dead end future?? I don't remember them explaining anything about that other than the time travel and the rest of it makes no sense. Did they get sucked into the world from another entirely before all that? How did they not turn into a pokemon the first time around? What brought them there and how did they meet Grovyle? Where did the dimensional scream come from???
And while we're at it why is the semi predecessors darkness and time and not like idk time and space like dialga and palkia. Why isn't palkia primal too and is only just kinda pissed at your existance. It would make WAY more sense if it brought you to that world to fuck with dialga in a turf war or some shit. Why is Darkrai involved in this at all??? What is going ON???

For any PMD: EOS fans I highly suggest you either watch a gameplay or play PMD: Explorers of the Spirit!
I won't spoil anything here but it's a fanmade game that's supposed to be a sequel to PMD: EOS, it's also supposed to be much harder than EOS in terms of gameplay
Anyways yeah go check it out when you can

I played Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky for the first time a little while ago and was reminded of how very wholesome the PMD series is. So here are some completely self-indulgent drawings of my rescue team. Shout-out to anyone else that has played the game with this specific combo!

I think it'd be really funny if evolution happened naturally in the pmd universe instead of going to luminous spring
(I blame @fujii-draws for this)

So you know how evolution isn’t a guaranteed indicator of a Pokémon’s age, as evidenced by that one episode with the really old Treecko?
Tumblr media
Applying this concept to the world of PMD yields some hilarious implications. Especially when you apply it in a post-credits PMD2 AU where the Future Trio have set up shop in the present, and we get to see Dusknoir have a crisis when he realizes he’s been hunting down a tween and a college student for the past who-knows-how-long.

TFW you realize the duo of fugitives you’ve tracked across space and time are not stupidly immature, they’re just babies
