hm fuck it. charlos feb 1 timeloop AU where charles does everything he can possibly do to stop lewis from announcing he's joining ferrari in 2025. tries talking to lewis, coercing him none of it works. over multiple loops charles learns all the politics involved and tries to use insider knowledge to change the outcome and it still isn't enough. he is so desperate to stop the heartbreak, to avoid shattering carlos' future at ferrari and what was going to be their future together that he runs himself ragged reliving the loop in days-- weeks-- over and over again-- and it's never enough

but eventually charles comes to understand, this is it. this loop of time is the last i'll see carlos before he will never look at me the same way again. everything will change from feb 1 onwards, everything that was and now won't ever be. so charles goes fuck it. and he restarts that time loop again but to live it for them. he visits carlos on his ski trip to the dolomites and has carlos visit him. they take pictures in that gorgeous infinity pool that will only exist in charles' memories. he texts carlos every day even though he can tell carlos is getting annoyed because they're supposed to be commited to pre-season training because this year is going to be THE year for them and ferrari and the tifosi and everyone who's believed in them for the past three. he even lies to carlos about how he thinks the contract talks are going so that carlos can believe, even for a little while, that his future at ferrari is secured; the loops where charles lies he always forces the reset just as carlos confronts him with the truth.

charles could loop their lives like this forever, if only to remain in denial that come feb 1 he's going to start losing his teammate until carlos finally leaves him for good at the end of the year. but living in a time loop has its physical and mental and emotional costs: charles is tired. bone deep exhaustion that neither he nor the makeup artists can hide for c2's first (last) ferrari photoshoot of the year. both of them know this is the beginning of the end but don't want to say it out loud.

but charles has had many, many chances to learn to live with it. so when carlos holds the camera and tells him to smile, he does.

pls forgive me for ranting on your tl but i’m wondering if anyone on here could help me place a few f1 dots together bc i truly am so new to the community that im not sure if i have some missing pieces or something:

i’m actually so devastated for carlos?? idk it feels like a lot of ppl don’t like him (there could be very valid reasons but im absolutely clueless as of rn bc i haven’t seen anything) but like? he gave so much to ferrari and they don’t give a fuck? but at the same time i’m not mad at lewis either bc i feel like something truly truly soul-crushing had to happen for him to want to leave merc.

i also always felt like that moment where charles & lewis posted that pic where they both got disqualified was a pre-curser to something bigger. although it’ll be a weird fight for 1st driver between LH44 & CL16, i think there’s so much mutual respect between the both of them that they will find a way to work. lewis seems like a driver who could POSSIBLY acknowledge that it’s time for new drivers to get more spotlight, and maybe make some more way for charles to shine (and i think fred also wouldn’t have signed LH w/o keeping this in mind

i hope carlos still has a seat in 2025, i think he has a lot to offer still, and i can’t bare to not see/think ab carlando on the grid every race

okay now THATS where i disagree HAHAHAHA🙈 lewis wants nothing more than his eighth, and rightfully so. charles wants nothing more than to a be a world champion at ferrari, and again, rightfully so. But at the end of the day, only ONE of them will be able to win races. its a selfish sport yk, and you cant really blame them for that. Just look at nico and lewis, both extremely talented drivers who had a lot of respect & love between them and still, the pressure of racing got to them.

im not saying that charles and lewis will end up like brocedes, but i also dont think that they can manage both being no.1 drivers. And, i also dont think that either one of them would settle for being no.2.

i dont think they'll bring in someone new to the sport so im pretty sure carlos will stay on the grid. Honestly, the best case scenerio: lewis to ferrari, the open merc seat goes to fernando, the open aston seat goes to yuki, and then the open alpha tauri (i am choosing not to believe its rebrand is real) seat can go to liam lawson, cus tbh he deserves it way more than 1/2 the drivers on the grid. ALSO i think the best decision redbull could make, now, is kicking checo tf out and replacing him with sainz. Heya, just wanted to say how amazing your writing style is. Im currently reading your f1 Story and its really amazing. Cant wait for next chapter!!! When did you get into f1?

I only really got into F1 January 2023. Binged the four seasons of DTS available at the time, then deep dove into tumblr and realised DTS was mostly BS with good cinematography. Still made for good viewing though when season 5 came out.

In classic neurodivergent fashion I then decided this would become the hyperfixation to end all hyperfixations and by the time pre-season testing rolled around I had consumed literally every bit of F1-related content on tumblr and social media from 2018 through to late 2022. I fell in love with the driver friendships and brotherhood - especially Maxiel, Charlos, Carlando. I infected my twin @wafflesrisa with F1 in mid Feb and she was as bonkers as I was by the time Ferrari did their car reveal.

By mid-March Waffles pitched the idea of a wingfic, based around Daniel and Max, to portray unhealthy sporting practices by athletes and the meaning of redemption, and the rest is history.

agreed, re: carlando/charlos/piarles comparison. charles and pierre have been friends since literal childhood, their families know each other well, they holidayed together, etc. notice how they always hang out pre-race or in the media pen and so on. similarly, carlos and lando make time for each other outside of their on-track duties. carlos and charles are work colleagues. the 'more than a bromance' thing is largely exaggerated by ferrari pr because it sells with younger fans on social media

the new ferrari team sat in a meeting room, both drivers feeling like they were about to be scolded. peter felt like he had been called into the principal's office, which was a feeling he hated.

"why are we here?" harley questioned tony. both drivers turned to look at the younger boy, if he didn't know why they were here then bianca didn't either, meaning they could be getting in trouble.

noticing their tense faces tony chuckled, "you're not in trouble, all of you can calm down."

"oh thank god," peter whispered, "i thought i was in trouble for that america's ass comment."

"oh, you are," tony replied, "but that's for a different day. we're here for a completely different reason."

"and that is?" sebastian questioned, "don't tell me you're firing us already."

"you're kidding," tony muttered, "this is the best performance i've seen from a ferrari in years, the car that is, not the drivers. i'm making a few changes," tony gestured to his daughter, "bianca, if you would please."

"he's being lazy," bianca joked as she stood up, "he wants to throw the 1st and 2nd driver rule out the window. the first race is coming up in less than a week, so what we propose is letting you two battle it out until miami, by that point whoever has the most points will lead in the championship and the other will defend. the next year we rotate and so forth. questions?"

"would it be before or after the miami grand prix?" charles questioned.

"after," bianca answered, "it gives us enough time to gather data and study it. the rule is only implemented if you two agree, otherwise we keep going as is."

"i think it works," sebastian said, breaking the silence, "it also guarantees both of you on the podium or at least one of you every race."

“and if we don’t agree?” carlos questioned.

“then we continue as is, charles as 1st and you as 2nd,” bianca answered, “we know it’s asking for a lot, one of you has to give up the championship for the other. the car is good, we know it can beat red bull, you both have a contract extension until 2025, by that time both of you could be world champions.”

“it is a good offer,” charles reasoned with carlos, “the car is good for both of us, it gives us equal opportunity.”

“and if we are tied when we get to miami?” carlos asked, clearly the spaniard would be the harder one of duo to convince.

“we push it until one of you gets ahead,” tony answered, “however long it takes, but mark my words, one of you will be world champion by the end of the season.”

“i will do it,” charles agreed. everyone turned to look at carlos and the spaniard nodded, “me too.”

tony clapped his hands, “well boys, let’s get that championship back to maranello, one way or another.”

i'm pre-cursoring this with the caveat that just because I ship it/don't ship it doesn't mean anything in the context of fool's gold because i know people are going to think that lol.

I only ship three ships in f1 right now and they are:

- charlos

- maxiel

- brocedes (lol is that their ship name because i ship it, not just friends LOL)

so that kind of answers your second question lol. it's not that i don't see carlando working or anything, it's just a different kind of relationship to me. i have a specific, unnamable "thing" about all of my ships that carlando just doesn't have, in my eyes. it's dynamic thing, i think. honestly it's probably not painful enough for me to dig into--we all know i freakin' love angst.

but, like, i could write a carlando fic without any problem because it has all of the elements of a great romance, i just don't ship it in the sense that i'm invested in the pairing outside of writing.

i don't even actively seek out content for any of the ships i listed (though i am a huge carlos/ferrari fan so charlos just comes naturally so that's kind of a lie for them) and I would say charlos is my top ship.

i love maxiel because it hURTS. same with brocedes.
