If this were the 90s, there would be three romcoms greenlit, because of India Ria Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest's chemistry alone.
Tumblr media
Every time I see them being all cute, I think this sucks. There won't be a season 2. We'll never see them together again.
I mean Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks had umpteen romcoms. Why can't we? Actors are literally asking for them. They are tired of doing all this dark murder shit people want to have fun at the movies.
Hollywood is wasting chemistry.

Poland steals Louis Tomlinson.
Poland steals Louis Tomlinson. Julia Maciag's account of the singer's concert in Krakow
By Julia Maciag- September 11, 20230
If a member of the band One Direction announces a tour, it means only one thing - it's going to be thick. What the heck, but I don't know a bigger fandom that can sacrifice everything for their idols. I won't write about what went on before the concert itself, because everything is recorded on the X platform, which is a treasure mine. This was also the case at Krakow's Tauron Arena, which hosted Louis Tomlinson on September 10. The singer was on tour to promote his second album Faith In The Future. I'll admit that Louis is my favorite member of a popular band that is actively touring, so even if the Vistula were to flood half of Krakow, I had to be at this concert.
You probably associate the actions with queuing a few days before for a Harry Styles concert. There was no shortage of that at Louis either, so the organizer introduced his numbers for those who purchased a seat on the album, which I consider a very good step. Admittedly, I heard voices of protest in the crowd of desperate female fans, but let's not kid ourselves - who normal would want to queue so long to get the barriers? The numbers and the organizer's rules worked well and brought the chaos caused by the "nomads" under control.
Before the main concert itself, there were support performances by Andrew Cushin and The Lathums. I rarely mention it, but Andrew Cushin charmed me with his music and his voice that I would consider going to his solo concert (he promised to come to our country in 2024, but time will tell). On the other hand, I did not become the most loyal fan of The Lathums and they could have appeared at the beginning of the support.
The main star started his show with the song The Greatest and, like a Polish patriot, entered the stage wearing a red and white T-shirt. He repeatedly mentioned that he loves our country and that he enjoys coming back here. He also stressed that the crowd was very loud, which even surprised him, while encouraging further noise in the arena. He even listened to fans with a request to play Chicago, which was removed from the European leg of the tour. For me, this was the biggest surprise of the concert, as it is my beloved Louis song and I couldn't hold back tears after this performance.
Louis Tomlinson additionally sang on the Tauron stage the songs Night Changes from One Direction's repertoire and Back To You in a rock arrangement that fit the mood of the entire concert. Instead, from 1D's discography, Where Do Broken Hearts Go with its original melody line resounded at the end of the concert. Fans also had a chance to listen to a cover of the Brit's song 505 by Arctic Monkeys, who were one of the inspirations for Faith In The Future. Also a treat was Louis' unreleased song Copy of a Copy of a Copy, which can be found on Spotify, among others.
Of the more interesting phenomena that took place at the concert was certainly the pogo on Out Of My System, which was quite close to me, but fortunately did not engulf me. Staying with Out Of My System, at the end of the song fireworks went off unexpectedly, after which I almost went down with a heart attack. Admittedly, they also shot off from the launcher during Written All Over Your Face or High California, but that launch was quite violent, unexpected. During Silver Tongues, Louis came down to the fans to the barriers and sang the last song with them. By the way, a conffetti fired at the fans at the time.
I almost lost my hearing after that concert, as I interacted with the loudest fans in my entire life. Other than that, I took away an amazing memory of seeing another member of One Direction live. I also learned for the future to wait extra for a souvenir photo or autograph from the singer after Louis' next concert. I wish everyone who is going to Lodz to have a great time, and for those who are wondering about Louis' concert, I can confirm that it is worth going.

Newcastle Daily Chronicle 24 September 1864 - “by a glorious and manly effort...” English exceptionalism, always alive and well...
BROTHER IGNATIUS. To the Editor of the Daily Chronicle. SIR, - While not doubting for a moment the sincerity of the views taken by "Brother Ingatius" of a return to monastic life in this country, still I of opinion his zeal hath driven him mad. I grant, in certain circumstances, the institution to have been of great benefit to mankind, and without which the present time could not have enjoyed the light it does. In the rude middle ages, when religion and art were tender and young, they found a hospitable and meet home in these monasteries. But now all is changed, and when this country, by a glorious and manly effort, swept away all these institutions, it was because by Divine will religion was seen fit to leave its swaddling-clothes. What has our experience been? No doubt, in the early dawn of Christianity, persons of as pure and enthusiastic thoughts as Brother Ignatius looked forward to monastic life as the ideal of all pure and happy innocence.
But we have read its history - how by degrees the ideal was quitted for the real - the creature worshipped and the Creator forgotten - till at length the whilom beauty, grown into an excresence - a mighty parasite - was lopped from the tree it overshadowed and stirled. Of course the system could never be reproduced in its former magnificance and splendour; the times do not suit - the press and public opinion are too quick to be cozened to allow its monstrosities to be enacted without reprehension. Witness the outcry raised about a supposed forcible abduction the other day. But out of this agitation let us hope good may come, and our clergy open their eyes to the apathy and sloth of their ministration, and though we do not wish to see the surplice indecently engaged in a war of words, like a Billingsgate fishwife, let our pastors deliver their opinions truly, humbly, and sincerely from their pulpits, as becomes the ministers of the Great Lord Jesus Christ.
I have no intention of troubling you with my views of celibacy in the ministers of religion. But it seems evident that an earnest and working pastor, with an equally zealous wife, could do more good than twenty monks, and could offer their services in twenty situations, where Brother Ignatius, and his whole fraternity could not with decency be present. To the working classes - let not the words addressed to them take effect by their brilliancy merely. Religion is a good thing, and we can never have enough of a true, honest, heartfelt religion. But what are these saints' says, so praised by him, in reality? A mummery of religion, an idol worship, and recurring with such frequency as to make a sad inroad on their time, for a very specious, questionable religious duty. We have been on the continent, and remember well the relief to land in our own blessed island, where following in the footsteps of religion, life seemed of a more manly caste.
I am, sir, yours truly, W.S. Newcastle, Sept. 23, 1864.

The trailer for 'Anyone But You' is terrible. It gives no information whatsoever about the movie, except that they don't like each other and occasionally stare at one another in an enticing manner. It's a poorly made fancam for a movie no one has seen.
The music is giving sexual thriller, not raunchy romcom.
They needed those affair rumors. Where was that red carpet chemistry in the trailer? The chemistry is lax.

The American Jewish press covers D-Day
As I've discussed previously, in past decades every local Jewish community of any size in the United states was served by at least one weekly paper. These were generally published with a Friday, or in a few cases Thursday, cover date, and were generally distributed by mail, which meant going to press on Wednesday or even on Tuesday. June 6th, 1944, was a Tuesday, and of course a weekly can't cover breaking news as a daily can, so I wasn't expecting to find very much is the papers' issues of June 8th and 9th. I was wrong.
The Sentinel (Chicago), which was published on Thursdays, and whose physical format was more that of a magazine than a newspaper, relegated the story to what is basically a fund-raising advertisement on the cover, but other papers provided at least some coverage of local events in response to the news, in many cases on the front page. (All of the following appeared on June 9th.)
From the B'nai B'rith Messenger (Los Angeles):
Tumblr media
In Minneapolis, the American Jewish World detailed a variety services:
Tumblr media
(Max Wohlberg was a prolific composer of synagogue music, much of which is still in use and in print.)
In Detroit, The Jewish News noted that special liturgy was read:
Tumblr media
(The inclusion of Avinu Malekenu strikes me as a bit odd. First, it's specific to the High Holy Days, not "solemn occasions" in general. Second it's a penitential litany, which seems beside the point for D-Day.)
The Jewish Floridian (Miami) tried to speak for all congregations in what was already a fairly large and diverse Jewish population:
Tumblr media
In the last two paragraphs of its coverage, The Southern Israelite (Atlanta) brought the news up to date and exhorted readers to step up to the plate and do their fair share:
Tumblr media
And finally, returning to my native California, here are two prayers published in The Jewish Journal of Norther California:
Tumblr media
(Exactly 16 years and one month after D-Day, Rabbi Burstein married my parents!)

Express, September 17th 1864:
BROTHER IGNATIUS - EXTRAORDINARY PROCEEDINGS.
It was announced that Brother Ignatius would preach at the monastery at Norwich on the nativity of the Blessed Virgin, but a sore throat prevented his doing so. It is stated that the Rev. Professor Owen, of Jesus College, Oxford, officiated in his stead. The rev. gentleman preached from the words, "The dew of thy birth is of the womb of the morning." On Wednesday there was a special service at the monastery in celebration of the "exaltation of the holy cross." Mr. H. F. Webber, third son of Mr. C. H. Webber, of South Brannocks, near Barnstaple, Devonshire, has just taken the monastic vows; he will be known in the "English Order of St. Benedict," as Brother Brannock.
An infant of two years has this week been solemnly dedicated at the monastery to the service of God. The infant was dressed as a Benedictine novice in white serge, and he is now left altogether to the care of the monks, and will not see his mother again until he has forgotten her. Brother Ignatius engaged to deliver a course of lectures at Newcastle-on-Tyne, on the peculiar principles and usages which he is seeking to introduce in to the church of England. There is no doubt that he is in a weak state of health induced by the austerities which he has practiced.
During the past week there have been some alterations at the monastery. It appears that the building dignified with this title was let some time since by the dean and chapter of Norwich to a gentleman who was subsequently admitted a member of the "third order." This gentleman seems to have sub-let the tenement to Brother Ignatius and the "English Order of St. Benedict." One of the brethren who recently quitted the Order was received as a visitor at the house of the member of the "third order;" and as this was in direct violation of the rules of the order generally - and at any rate of the will and pleasure of Brother Ignatius - the member of the "third order" now finds himself excommunicated. A lady who refused to lend her assistance to the establishment of a nunnery at Norwich has also been excommunicated. The discipline maintained by Brother Ignatius is very severe; and when any of the monks address him as superior they have to make a very abject obeisance.
One of the monks, Brother Augustine, has addressed a very extraordinary letter to a lad named Hose, whom the monks have endeavoured to attract to the monastery. He says, "The superior" - that is, Brother Ignatius - "is always having fresh favourites and likings." Brother Augustine complains further that Brother Ignatius seems dreadfully afraid even of one's looking at the boy Hose, to whom he says, his (Brother Augustine's) heart is "literally burning." Brother Augustine begs the boy Hose to burn his extraordinary if not incoherent letter, but it forced its way into his parents hands, and will appear in one of the Norwich papers to-day (Saturday). Brother Ignatius leaves Norwich to-day (Saturday), and according to an announcement which he has made he may be absent on a excursionary tour for two months. How the monastery will move on in his absence remains to be seen. He is the mastermind, without which the whole fabric of this extraordinary "English Order of St. Benedict" would speedily nod to its fall.
