So much blood shed.
So many lives lost.
Panic and disgust at all that carnage yet enjoyment enacting violence against those special grades.
Roughly a thousand transfigured heads rippled through the blood-soaked station, trapped in his Infinite Void, within two tenths of a second.
Then came the Prison Realm.
The cube swishing open to take its true form.
Its wrinkly red skin stretched out into an X, wires stretching out its shrunken warm colored eye dripping with blood.
His instincts screamed to turn tail and get away.
"Yo Satoru."
That waving, closed eye smile sent unsettling, too trusting tremors through him.
"Huh?"
"Long time no see."
A fake?
A transformation technique?
No … the Six Eyes burned it onto his brain.
It all came flowing into him.
Three years' worth of his youth.
Smiling at that face.
Eyes full of hope.
Taking a minute to unfold in his head.
Enough time for the Prison Realm to merge with him, jutting out of him, keeping him hanging and pinned.
"You shouldn't lose yourself in thought, in the midst of battle, Satoru."
I can't sense any cursed energy. I can't get my body to move, either. This is checkmate, huh?
"So, who the hell are you?"
"I'm Suguru Geto. Don't you remember me? How sad."
"Your body, your cursed energy … all the information provided by these eyes is telling me you're Suguru Geto. But … my soul is rejecting all that! Now answer me already! Who the hell are you!?"
"Creepy." Pulling on that near invisible thread. Lifting the top half of his head off. Revealing the mouthed alien brain; juices dripping down his face, his wide ass toothy smile pissing him off. "How could you tell?"
"That's my technique you see. I can pass from one body to another by replacing its brain with myself. Of course, I'm also able to use that technique etched into the body I inhabit. I really wanted this man's Curse Manipulation and this situation, too. You didn't have Shoko Ieiri handle the disposal of Suguru Geto's body that day, did you?"
He couldn't … he just couldn't bear it.
Watching his one and only best friend being buried … or even cremated … after all those years spent apart on opposite sides … his selfish grieving heart had to keep him.
Plopping that head cap back on, squelched noises were made, it all churned Gojo's guts.
"That was an odd time for you to show consideration. But thanks to that, I was able to obtain this body with ease."
Pulling the thread to hold its creped hold back in place.
"You needn't worry. I'll release your seal eventually. A hundred… no … maybe a thousand years from now? You're just too strong. And you're in the way of my plans."
"Hah! Have you forgotten? Who was it that beat the crap out of that body before I killed him?" His stubborn pride and confidence in his distant relative turned aspiring pupil knew no bounds.
"Yuta Okkotsu, huh? I just don't see as much appeal in that boy as you do. Copying techniques without any conditions, and a bottomless well of cursed energy … both of those were just effects obtained from binding the soul of his most beloved with a pact. Sorry to say this, but Yuta Okkotsu can never replace you."
False Geto …
No ….
Kenjaku.
Damn him.
"Goodnight, Satoru Gojo. We'll meet again in the new world."
His pleading hopes that his one great weakness – his greatest strength – would respond to his desperate cries to come back and end the madness were all dashed.
Betting all his hopes that Suguru was still in there somewhere, trying to break free like himself, and that someway, somehow, something blessed would arrive amiss all this cursed madness.
Yet, even as the instincts of keeping him safe ingrained in the overtaken body of his best friend surfaced just to choke his hijacked being, it was a lost cause.
Lost in the moments of the times he missed most of all.
Lost in the song of their laughter, their fights, their banter, when they could be kids and nothing else.
Being each other's strength.
Making up for what the other lacked.
Each other's missing piece.
And to have that cursed Kenjaku make him relive the hell of a life failing Suguru. Tainting his entire being. Not even in death could the suffering end for his lost and lonely other half; matching Gojo's inner suffering for over a decade long in a world without Geto.
The strongest one, the honored one, defeated by the greatest curse that is love.
Failing his moral compass, his one and only friend, who needed someone in his time of need when he fell apart over his struggling morals after witnessing the cruel truth of their world. Expected to protect those that don't deserve it. Losing those that are too pure for that horrific reality.
Unable to protect his students, allies, and friends from the onslaught of hell that came for them that bloody Halloween night.
Unable to resist the moment that monster greeted him in Suguru's voice.
Unable to save the one he loved most of all.
Three years spent trapped.
Trapped in isolating hell.
Swallowed whole in suffocating, soul crushing darkness.
The muffled voice of someone pulled him out of the murky pulls of deep slumber. The jostling shake in his being, the solid digging of fingers in his shoulders, the overwhelming heat shoving back the freezing sunken teeth of the nightmare.
The muffled sound became clear out in the open as the most familiar voice of all was yelling out his name desperately.
"Satoru!? Wake up! Come on, please!"
Rescuing him from that insufferable reality.
Awakening him in a new one.
Blinking his eyes up several times, heaving and catching his breath as he broke out into a sweat.
Non vibrant eyes darting all over as he took in everything. Late at night. The AC humming in the background. Streams of moonlight creeping in through the skinny gap of the curtains. Trickling along the hunched form of Geto over him in their shared bed, wearing a long-sleeved charcoal sleeping shirt, an all-knowing concern written all over his face.
"What was it this time?"
No stitched-up forehead.
No more lies.
Looking into those enriching, trusting eyes.
Gojo shakily breathed out, draping an arm over his eyes. "Me being sealed away."
It is him.
Really, truly, his Suguru.
Breathing.
Safe.
Free.
Gojo felt his walls collapsing.
His vulnerability surfacing.
"The price a do over gives us." Geto murmured somberly.
"Yeah." His throat constricted, his eyes watered up, gritting wrecked grunts left him as his hand enclosed in a shaking veiny fist. Trying to keep it all in, not wanting Suguru to see him falling apart over a bad dream. But the contents of said dream made him want to behold to hold Suguru and never let him go again.
Alarmed by panic, Geto leaned down immediately to lay right atop him, embracing his emotional love with his own tightening grip, shushing him insistently as his hand brushed through those lovely white locks. "It's okay. I'm here. We're both here."
Recollections of their past lives flaring up in dreams is but one of the few downsides to reincarnation in this new modern age. But shouldering that burden with another makes it less of a struggle.
"This better not be a dream." Gojo lifted his arm, revealing the pain flashing in those emotionally teary blue eyes which tore at Geto's heartstrings. "Or I swear to God," Gojo sobbingly hiccupped as he clawed at Geto's clothed back, distraught battling relief within himself as his face nuzzled into Geto's strong neck.
"It's real. All of it. And this." Geto's tender, warm firm lips pressing to his cheek felt too good to be true. "I'm real, Satoru. As are you."
Breathing in Suguru's scent to calm his irrational state of mind, easing down just hearing his name spoken in that cozy voice from the genuine article. "This is real." Whispering that mantra over and over slowly kept Gojo grounded in the here and now as it did with Geto.
Gojo's next words struck a chord within them both. "I … I'm sorry Suguru."
"What?" Geto pulled back enough to look into those normal yet breathtaking blue eyes.
"For everything. For ignoring your pain all those years. For not letting you go when I … I killed you. If it weren't for me, that bastard wouldn't have taken it over and everyone … everything … wouldn't have turned out so wrong. I ... I was never the same without you." Gojo's voice cracked, braving himself to look him right in the eye even in this harried sorry state, when a gentle peck to his lips halted his words.
Geto's almond eyes narrowed as they became murky with lament. "Don't blame yourself. I'm … sorry too. For leaving you. For not divulging all my troubles to you. I just … the weight of the world was already on your shoulders. I believed I alone could find a solution to my problems … and that of our world … even if it meant becoming the worst curse user of our age. Yet after all that time …" His smile had Gojo at a loss of breath as Geto's other hand cradled his tear-stained cheek, rubbing calming circles with his thumb. "You still trusted me to the very end. After all the damage I had caused. After I hurt you … envying your power over seeing you for the person I always knew you to be deep down inside." Geto shut his eyes, letting his own tears trail down freely, sparking from the sliver of moon beams hitting them, mesmerizing Gojo.
To him, Geto Suguru never looked more radiant.
Gojo dug his fingers in Geto's back to pull himself up enough for their faces to be a mere inch or so apart, wiping away his tears in kind. "We've both suffered. All of us did. Doomed in that world from the start. Trying to change it all our own way. Prepared to lay our lives down for that dream. And yet, here we are."
Geto chuckled in wry amusement, resting his forehead against Gojo's. "The irony of it all."
Both ready to welcome death when their times came. On the same day. Their anniversary. Only to reawaken in a whole new world, one with no cursed energy at all. No cursed spirits, no sorcerers, nothing. With everyone else coming along for the ride. And all the memories attained from their past lives. Whatever higher power intervened to bring it all to fruition, neither knew at the time whether to be thankful or resentful.
And yet … finding their grown-up selves seeing each other again in the flesh … instinctually running to each other, collapsing in each other's arms, heart ruled over reason ever since.
Such as now.
Sitting up on their legs and calves, their embrace was as cathartic as the first one shared in the pure light of a new venture. Looking into each other's eyes, the sparks of hope reigniting.
"I forgive you, Satoru." Geto gently rubbed his nose against Gojo's.
"I forgive you too, Suguru … my one and only." Gojo's endearing grin had Geto laughing softly.
"Same old Satoru."
"Of course. It's still me, after all." That cheeky smirk says it all.
"How I have missed that sight …" Geto's gaze gleamed with amour that made Gojo's heart soar. "We have a second chance. We all do."
"Let's not waste it, then." Gojo's sculpted strong hand weaved through those silky raven locks, cradling the back of Geto's head. "I'm willing to fight for this life if you are. Nightmares, memories, and all." The conviction rose to meet his newfound dream.
"I'm not going anywhere. If I must live again, I'd rather live a long life worth living … as long as it's with you." Geto's own firm resolve gave him the urge to just come out and say it.
"We are the strongest duo, after all~!"
Geto's free hand playfully wacked Gojo's white long-sleeved shoulder, chortling, "Idiot."
"You love it, though." That drawn out kiss lingered between them as their half-lidded eyes stayed connected. "Admit it."
"I do." Geto's warm breath made Gojo want to kiss him again, longer, deeper, relishing his taste.
Drowning in the overwhelming pleasure as he pulled Geto even closer by the head, wrapping an arm around his body, meshing perfectly together.
As their tongues battled for dominance, Geto pushed Gojo to lay fully down in their big welcoming bed, laying down atop him once more, parting their panting mouths, connected by a line of their saliva, burning puffs hitting each other's mouths. "I love you, Gojo Satoru. All of you."
His soul told it to be true.
"And I love you Geto Suguru … I always have. In our old life… in this one …. if it's with you, that's the only place I want to be."
"So sappy. Even for you." Geto teased.
"Hey, you're stuck with me for life. Deal with it." Gojo stuck his tongue out, feigning annoyance.
"Like I have any other choice," Geto sighed, resigning to his fate, but his smitten grin displayed how fine he is to it all. The loud yawn released from his taller lover had him cup his cheeks to give a goodnight smooch, moving to lay on his side, cozying up to Gojo. "Good dreams should await you now."
"Having you here with me is a dream come true~" Gojo purred, intertwining their legs together as he wrapped his arms around Geto's shoulders.
Geto rolled his eyes, exasperated. "God the corniness."
Gojo laughed mirthfully before kissing Geto repeatedly, speaking in between the breaks. "I mean it. I do."
Wrapping his own arms around him, Geto could relax completely knowing his dear Satoru was so happy. Thanks to him. Because of him. Return those kisses in kind, humming at how good it felt. "Well, I do too."
Embracing each other under the sheets, lulled by each other's warmth, their even breathing and synchronized heartbeats became the telltale signs that they both fell fast asleep.
The catharsis was profound.
For that night would be followed by many others.
Where dreams come to fruition.
When living peacefully was possible.
Waking up to the early morning sunrise and seeing themselves in each other's arms brought sleepy smiles to their faces, kissing soundly before snuggling even closer to each other, falling straight back to dreamland.
Lost in a moment.
Lost in a song.
Their moment.
Their song.
Of a new beginning.
Together.

"Don't interfere with Gojo's fight, you'll only be a burden" 🤡 anyways I think we all agree this was a terrible fight with a terribly executed ending. It feels like bad writing, with Gege unsealing Gojo and not knowing what to do with him having a bunch of characters waiting to progress and be developed. Just unnecessary, like what did the fight accomplish? Gojo straight up forgetting about Megumi and being like "oh nvm, i was never gonna win anywyay" just feels OOC.
One of the most anticipated fights in the whole manga and it was kinda trash. I hope the plot moves along now. Like you said, I want to see the students fighting Sukuna and Kenjaku, also give me the parent Kenjaku reveal moment with Yuji, Gege, and some KenJin flashbacks. Perhaps add in a little "Jin is actually alive". As compensation.
Also waiting on that Sukuna/Yuji fight. Please Gege let that one be good.
I don't know if it's because Gege lost passion for the story, but there would've been dozens of better options on how to do the fight besides "students sit on their ass and watch the live stream of their teacher's death". F in chat, guys! No, don't interfere, that would be too interesting and feel way too natural.
I really don't want to be this harsh, but everything since Gojo's unsealing has just been very questionable writing decisions. I like the Culling Game actually, I enjoyed it more than Shibuya, even when we were focusing on characters I didn't care as much about. It didn't have the constant threat of death I expected, but it was still good and I especially liked all the new lore and character exploration. Execution of Yuki's death was meh and there could've been done more with the fight, but it still moved me. Tsumiki turning out to be a piece of cardboard was my first real disappointment, but I could've looked past that if her and Yorozu's death would've been executed better. And after that it was just kinda...bad.
Angel agrees to unseal Gojo without explanation despite refusing to do that earlier. Backdoor has no drawbacks, Gojo is just out now. He's kinda weird post-Prison Realm and definitely different from before with changed priorities, but we don't get anything concrete about him or his time in containment that would give more depth to this. He just feels kinda detached. And then one month timeskip. I still remember when people said we would get flashbacks during the fight to explain what the characters were up to. But nope, nothing. Who knows if the main characters have an actual plan, Gojo definitely doesn't seem prepared. We get vague hints at Gojo using his time in the Prison Realm to adjust his domain, but we don't hear his perspective on that (would've been too interesting), we are just told about how he must feel by other characters. It's such basic things that could have made this fight more engaging and moving, but we barely get anything. On top of that it is stretched over 14 chapters and 4 months for no reason. Just make it hit harder from the beginning and shorten it that way. Kenjaku and Yuki were powerhouses and they didn't need this much time. Also the constant Gojover teasers got old very fast.
However, Gojo did manage to strip Sukuna off his domain and Mahoraga, so that will make things a little bit easier for the others. Sukuna can't just vaporize everyone with Malevolent Shrine anymore.
With the Kenjaku vs Gojo fight not happening, I am more confident though that we will get more focus on Kenjaku & Yuuji and explore their relationship and past. Feels like there will be more time dedicated to them, although that also depends on how Yuuji vs Sukuna goes. I am very excited for what's to come either way.

I also think that a lot of why people (myself included) say that they want gojo to come back is because gojos death was kind of done poorly and rushed. And like the only explanation for how kind of bad it was is that he’ll come back? Like there were several other ways to nerf him that would have been satisfying for his character (like losing his six eyes). He would have to live just as Satoru Gojo not as ‘the strongest’ which would be interesting for his character because that’s all he’s ever known. Killing him off also didn’t really move the plot either. Maybe there’s some stuff we’ll find out about later down the line that’s will make me feel differently but like you wasted almost five months with this Sukuna fight just for it to end like that and now we’re back at square one before the fight started. You could have kept gojo in the prison realm and gotten the same affect. But I guess we’ll have to see how the series progresses to have a better understanding. Also, I noticed how his afterlife scene was similar to Kakashi’s with his dad so if you wanted more gojo will come delusions here ya go😂
Its always hard to judge when it's not complete. Especially since geges writing relies alot on flashbacks. I'm guessing we will get more flashbacks that might fill the gaps in and make things feel more complete, but who knows 😭
tbh I've seen the sentiment that alot of people think the fight was a waste of time, but I actually don't feel that way towards it. Other than it being a really cool fight (im a big battle shounen nerd so a big part of my enjoyment from jjk is just the cool fights lol) I actually think it showed us an interesting side of both gojo and sukuna. It was almost ....wholesome (?) in a way to see the two of them have so much fun finally getting to face an opponent they deemed to be their equal. Both share alot of similarities and honestly can probably understand eachother in a way no one else can. Despite the circumstances, this fight was probably one of the happiest times in each of their lives. I think it was an interesting thing to showcase for both of their characters.
seeing sukuna afterwards and his final words to gojo were also oddly sweet (????) Some of it is lost in translation, but here's an explanation of one of the lines in jp that sukuna says to gojo at the end:
Tumblr media
"You cleared my skies, Gojo Satoru" like ???? Same, sukuna, same. 😭
Anyways sorry to get off topic and ramble. I think for now I'll still hold off on judging how things were executed until I can finally see the full story. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me tho! I really like listening to other people's perspectives on things !! :)
And omg yes the Kakashi parallels!!! how many times will I be hurt by a mangaka over the potential death of a white haired sensei character 💀

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 10 second part
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Meta)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Tumblr media
Unclean Realm
Lan Wangji has a Louis Henry Sullivan moment on seeing the Nie family home, becoming enraptured by its overwrought monumental architecture after a lifetime of restrained good taste and single-story buildings.
Tumblr media
He approaches the fortress with the expression of delighted wonder that he usually reserves for when he’s looking at the moon or at Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is like, yep that’s a building, all right, but he supports Lan Wangji’s kinks.
Meng Yao tells them about the Wen Clan directive, and has what appears to be a moment of genuine, affectionate amusement at Nie Huaisang’s reaction.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng kinda blames the Lans for inventing the whole “indoctrination” thing and for encouraging his brother’s disaster bi tendencies. Wei Wuxian responds by complimenting the Lan Clan, almost like someone who met his true love got some real value out of the instruction he received there.
(more after the cut)
Tumblr media
One of the great ironies of this story is that Wei Wuxian sort of becomes a rogue Lan disciple because of his relationship with Lan Wangji. He relies on Lan temperament techniques, uses music as a primary cultivation method, has committed all of the Lan rules to his supposedly terrible memory and cites them on multiple occasions, and is an important mentor for the younger generation Lan disciples. Because Hanguang-Jun is just that good in bed.
Tumblr media
Xue Yang in the background of this conversation is channeling OP’s church-enduring, school-enduring inner 10-year-old.
Nie Mingjue, Chifeng-Zun, appears, and couldn’t be more different than his brother. On first watching this episode, I saw him as a grumpy, sexy, very emotional leather daddy man who is quick to anger. Rewatching, I see someone who’s struggling with a growing illness...the resentful energy kind.
Tumblr media
Nie Mingjue’s handling of resentful energy is very different from Wei Wuxian’s straightforward interest and acceptance. NMJ has a traditional cultivator’s view of it, regarding it as evil and as something to resist, while he is literally carrying it on his back. He’s like a secret alcoholic who is preaching temperence, and can’t find a way to be reconciled with himself.
Tumblr media
At this point of the story, Nie Mingjue is keeping it together, but is under a hell of a lot of stress, and Baxia’s blood thirst is already maybe a problem.
The Yunmeng bros think that Nie Huaisang’s fear of his brother is hilarious, because they don’t understand the situation. They think he’s just living in a hideously toxic family dynamic like theirs, when actually he’s in a loving, sorta healthy, if parentless, family that is being crushed under a generational curse.
Compliments for the Yunmeng Bros
I’m not the first meta poster to notice how happy Jiang Cheng is to be praised by Nie Mingjue.
Tumblr media
He never gets this at home. Jiang Yanli praises him, but in that watery “you tried your best” way that doesn’t really stick.  Nie Mingjue’s praise really means something, because he is a fearsome warrior and stern authority figure. And this is a double compliment, because Nie Mingjue says he heard it from Lan Xichen, and agrees with it.
Let’s Make Terrible Decisions
Keep Xue Yang alive, says Wei Wuxian, and Meng Yao immediately agrees, although I’m pretty sure he would have proposed that even if WWX hadn’t.
Tumblr media
So they do, not realizing that “kill him later” is never a good plan for someone who 1. super needs killing 2. has a whole lot of death-dealing skills.
Tumblr media
Future clan leader Jiang Cheng notices how smart and talented Meng Yao is.  Xue Yang finds it hilarious when the trio praises Meng Yao, possibly because their evil team up is already underway.
Tumblr media
Boss’ Bed Warmer Son of a Ho
The constant insults toward Meng Yao are about his mom, but there’s another level of leering implication, that Meng Yao seems to encourage in his conversation with the soon-to-be-murdered guard captain.
Tumblr media
Nie Mingjue elevated him way above his expectations, and he is ridiculously pretty, which has to create rumors. In the Nightless City scenes when he’s fondling Baxia and telling Nie Mingjue’s family secrets there’s definitely a sense of intimacy that’s not just “loyal retainer.”
Tumblr media
I feel like maybe this whole exchange is a bit of theater designed to show Xue Yang something without showing it to anyone else. Meng Yao didn’t need to have this conversation in front of his prisoner.
Let’s Do Exactly What We Said We Wouldn’t
Once the younger quartet are alone with Nie Mingjue, Wei Wuxian crosses the room away from his friends and practically into Lan Wangji’s pocket, if Lan Wangji had pockets.
Tumblr media
He has no pockets and also has no personal bubble any more, when it comes to Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
We could make a weapon out of Yin Iron, Wei Wuxian says, completely forgetting his entire conversation with Lan Yi, apparently. Lan Wangji doesn’t argue with this idea.
Nie Mingjue warns Wei Wuxian not to try it.
Tumblr media
I stabbed a man in Qinghe just to watch him die
Nie Mingjue is like the Johnny Cash of the cultivation world, carrying the weight of his poor choices and trying to steer the young folk to the path of righteousness. But--like Johnny Cash--his bad choices have made him really fucking cool, so he isn’t very good at deterring anybody.
Meng Yao Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends
Tumblr media
Immediately after Meng Yao’s fellow Nie clan people call him “son of a whore” again, Wei Wuxian meets him, is nice to him, addresses him by his military title, bows to him, asks why he’s away from the party, and thanks him for his service.
Tumblr media
But Meng Yao has already decided to make friends with Xue Yang, so Wei Wuxian goes onto his list of people that he doesn’t give a crap about except if they can be useful to him.  Then Meng Yao goes to make out hatch a plot with Xue Yang.
I’ll Sleep On Your Roof
Meeting SongXiao seems to have done away with the last of Lan Wangji’s resistance to his connection with Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
He hears a noise on the roof and, when realizing it’s Wei Wuxian, he smiles one of his tiny reserved smiles before heading outside.
Tumblr media
When he sees Wei Wuxian drunkenly sprawled on the roof, limbs akimbo, wine on his chin and neck, mouth full of poetry about the open road, Lan Wangji gives him the most fond look imaginable.
Tumblr media
Then he reluctantly leaves, with his signature “say goodbye, but only when he can’t hear you” thing.
They’ve both come a really long way since their first meeting. Wei Wuxian is openly and vocally attaching himself to Lan Wangji...but is not actually entering his space or asking for anything from him; he just wants to be near him, and wants to let him know that. “I’ll sleep on your roof tonight.”
Tumblr media
And Lan Wangji just...loves him. Wei Wuxian is drunk, embarrassing, demonstrative, eager to make a hell weapon out of yin iron, touchy feely, and absurdly sexy. And Lan Wangji is pretty okay with all of that.
I Might Have Been Drunk
Wei Wuxian carefully avoids telling Jiang Cheng where he was last night.
Tumblr media
Even if he did get blackout drunk, he would have woken up on Lan Wangji’s roof. And I don’t think he was as drunk as that. He just knows Jiang Cheng wouldn’t like the truth.
Wen Fucking Chao, Again
Wen Chao shows up to be annoying and boring.  This leads to a pretty good fight between Nie Mingjue and Wen Zhuliu. Note that when the chips are down, Nie Huaisang stands with his Gege without any cowering. Almost as if he had hidden reserves of bravery, and is not as helpless as he lets on.
Tumblr media
Wen Zhuliu isn’t styled to be super hot, although he’s certainly compelling, and in Dance of the Phoenix he looks good with sensitive-guy hair wispies. I wonder what actor Feng Mingjing looks like out of character?
Tumblr media
BRB, adding a tag to my follow list
Battle Bros
When the fighting breaks out, the Yunmeng brothers are decisive and united, with Wei Wuxian giving orders to Jiang Cheng and JC following without hesitation.
Tumblr media
I feel like if these two could have gone through a few big battles together, instead of being separated during most of the Sunshot campaign, their whole relationship would have improved. On the battlefield, they respect, trust, and understand each other.
The Pointy End
Nie Mingjue is holding his own against Wen Zhuliu, but he gets distracted by Meng Yao hollering “Xue Yang has escaped” and then shanking the guard captain right in front of him.
Tumblr media
Wen Zhuliu takes advantage of the distraction to aim a very slow stab at Nie Huasang, and Meng Yao jumps in front to get stabbed on his behalf.
Tumblr media
When the Yunmeng bros show up to help NMJ, Wen Zhuliu immeiately yanks Wen Chao back behind him and points his sword at Wei Wuxian. He absolutely sees these two as a serious threat.  Considering that eventually WWX is going to kill Wen Chao while JC kills Wen Zhuliu, this concern is not misplaced.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian tells Wen Chao to stop being such a jerk, and Wen Chao menaces Wei Wuxian and gloats about the burning of cloud recesses. The burning, that is, of some part of cloud recesses that doesn’t include the library, the Jingshi, the main cultivation chamber, the rabbit warren, or Lan Qiren’s house, unless the Lan Clan is really really good at rebuilding things to very exact specifications.
In a rare moment of seeing Meng Yao’s internal thoughts, he is worried about Lan Xichen when he hears about cloud recesses.
The Yelling Part
Now we have the particularly nasty breakup between Nie Mingjue and Meng Yao. It’s...got some layers. Meng Yao is cowering on the floor, but is not apologizing.
Tumblr media
He never apologizes throughout this encounter.
Tumblr media
孟瑤無悔  - Meng Yao (has) no regrets
This scene is amazing and excruciating to watch, even more when you know what’s ahead.
What the Fuck is Meng Yao’s Plan
On one level this is Meng Yao, manipulative sociopath, setting up a cover story for his aiding and alliance with Xue Yang.  On another, this is Meng Yao, loving subordinate, being tossed aside by his lord because he dared to stand up for himself.
Tumblr media
He uses the same “scout’s honor” gesture we’ve seen Wei Wuxian use to swear he’s telling the truth. Wei Wuxian is always lying when he uses this gesture.
I’m...not sure exactly what Meng Yao’s plan is, with all these chess moves? By stabbing the captain in front of NHS, he created an opportunity to plant a cover story about Xue Yang’s escape. He might be hoping that Nie Mingjue will forgive him and keep him on, while Xue Yang can stay in his back pocket to be used later.
Tumblr media
Dry eyes? Try Visene
Or he might be intending to get kicked out, given his non-apology. In any case, Nie Mingjue is weeping during this encounter, and Meng Yao...isn’t. He is signaling distress in his voice, expression, and body language, but his eyes are dry up until the last moment, and even then they just glisten a bit. In a show where every actor is an expert at crying on cue, that’s got to be a deliberate choice.
Which isn’t to say that Meng Yao is faking being full of emotion in this scene. It’s just that the emotion isn’t necessarily sorrow.
What Does Nie Mingjue’s Head Think
Flip the view and this is about Nie Mingjue being betrayed by a subordinate, who has turned out to be a self-serving murderer. And on another level it’s Nie Mingjue being betrayed by his lover, who was just using him for advancement.
Tumblr media
I rewatched the later episode where we get the scene as Nie Mingjue’s head perceived it, and he’s particularly brokenhearted and disillusioned from his head’s POV.  In that version there is a telling addition to the conversation.
Nie Mingjue asks about the guys who were roasting Meng Yao behind his back. He asks, if I hadn’t come, would you have murdered all of them?
Um. No, dude. Of course fucking not. That’s what a patriarchal authority does. That’s the way an angry Nie Mingjue/Baxia team might solve a problem.
Tumblr media
Meng Yao has to use subterfuge to kill his enemies. And while he super hates being called “son of a whore” it’s absolutely not enough to make him kill someone, with the risk murder brings. Likewise, being treated well isn’t enough to make him spare someone. Nie Mingjue totally doesn’t get this, because he’s been the patriarch of this clan his entire adult life.
And Here’s the Actual Problem
There is a betrayal here, but Nie Mingjue is not simply a victim.  Whether it’s a sexual relationship or a non-sexual bond of affection, there can be nothing solid in Nie Mingjue and Meng Yao’s relationship within a feudal society, because it is fundamentally unequal. Even if they love each other deeply - which I’m not convinced either of them does - every encounter they have is tainted with power dynamics.
Tumblr media
Meng Yao has been elevated by Nie Mingjue and quite probably taken into his bed, as well as being told many family secrets, but has not been given a new surname (like, for example, Wen Zhuliu was) or independent power. More importantly, Nie Mingjue has not used his authority to remove or punish the many people who disrespect his subordinate.  Lan Qiren would have had all of those gossipy fuckers kneeling in the snow, and Wen Ruohan would feed them to his mosh pit zombies.
Meng Yao is a murderous little snake, but he is right to be angry with Nie Mingjue about some things, and his pursuit of his own agenda is understandable.
Well, That Was a Slice
Meng Yao leaves, hurt, with a dignified bow; just as he did that one time when his dad kicked him down the Carp Tower steps.
Tumblr media
Take note, both patriarchal authorities: that is his way of saying “I’m going to murder you one day.”
Tumblr media
Nie Mingjue sits with his broken heart, as we realize that we’ve only spent 20 minutes with this guy and we’ve gone on an entire emotional journey with him. This episode packed in a LOT.
Soundtrack: Johnny Cash, Folsom Prison Blues

I don't think Gojo will die. In the newest chapter (145), the brain was explained to have chosen to seal Gojo because as long as Gojo is alive, another 6 eyes user can't be born. 6 eyes users in the past have always defeated him, so the brain took steps to ensure there wouldn't be another one born. Gege also said there's no point for the brain to control Gojo, so there aren't any plans to kill him.
Therefore, it seems like the better plan would be to have Gojo sealed for eternity (and he won't die because time doesn't exist in the prison realm). Therefore, no 6 eyes user will appear to interfere with the brain's plans (there can't be two 6 eyes user in existence at the same time).
Gojo dying would only allow another 6 eyes user to be born (ignoring the fact that the brain couldn't even kill Gojo, as Gege said). And if a new 6 eyes user is born, the plan would have to reset into finding him and then sealing him for eternity just like they did with Gojo to prevent another 6 eyes user being born, which is redundant. Also, if the age of curses come and Sukuna is released, even if the students are somehow able to defeat Sukuna and the brain, the world will still have millions of curses running about. Gojo's the only one with the power scale to defeat all the curses that have sprouted within (possibly) a year, and Gojo could use his power to manipulate the higher ups into lifting the executions in exchange for his help.
There's a lot of ways Gojo could manipulate the higher ups and expose them for what they've done once he's returned, actually, considering the chaos. I think Gojo coming back and saving everyone could potentially bring a new age where people are more inclined to follow Gojo, especially because his students by the time he's escaped would have proved themselves to be capable sorcerers. Gojo could show his competence and ability to lead with his students as proof that a new curriculum for Jujutsu Sorcery is necessary and begin a new era. The turning point would be having his students defeat the thousand year old curse, the brain, and this feat would be impossible for the world to ignore as they would have to respect him and his students for it. This was what he dreamed about, wasn't it? Having educated students follow him and create a new world where people will then follow in his students' footsteps and so on and so forth.
Also, Gojo's the only one who can get the higher ups to do what he says (even if they go behind his back, they still hold off on executions because of Gojo. This shows Gojo has the political power (or persuasiveness/charm) to get the higher ups to obey). Getting rid of him was the only way the higher ups could do whatever they wanted, so having him back puts a wrench into their plans whether they like it or not (which is good for the story). Even if the students end up killing the higher ups, without Gojo, the students will have trouble leading a new era as they are still children.
Overall, Gojo's death would be angsty and make everyone mad, but even for the enemies, it seems like it would be more beneficial to keep him alive. I don't see how Gojo's death could improve the story at all (cause we know Gege only kills people off if they become useless or if it would help character development). It seems like both the good guys and the bad guys need him alive. And even for character development, Gojo's death has more consequences than any other character. The higher ups will be free to do as they please without worrying about him, the curses that have been in hiding for so long will emerge, a fate worse than the Hunger Games, aka the Culling Game, will happen as more curses and curse users appear and toy with humanity- and such a thing has already come to pass just by having him sealed. Unless the point of the story is like AOT where everyone dies and there's no happiness at all, just death and destruction, I think having Gojo's dream start to manifest itself through his students' hardships and growth would be an incredible ending. The whole point in having Gojo sealed, for writing purposes, is to give his students room to grow and develop. But like Nanami said, that maturity doesn't make them an adult. No matter the feat, they are still young- Megumi and Yuji are only 15/16. And what other adult could possibly help lead the students to a new world better than Gojo, who has been dreaming and plotting this for years?
- 🤔
OMG OMG PLS LET THIS BE SO you bring up alot of valid points which gives me hope. I never knew there could be only be one 6 eyes user alive. Then again having multiple people with 6 eyes would just make the things easy, like the curses already hear Gojo but more of people like him? Too overpowered. True while there is some speculation whether or not Gojo would die or not but I don't feel like gege would kill him without a grand purpose. Will Okkotsu Yuta be the next Gojo Satoru? Idk honestly this has been a recurring theme in the manga. Pls I'm so done with the angst if they yeet my boy Gojo it's going to crush my soul and I am definitely going be writing tons of fluff to hide how sad I really am lol sorry if what I'm saying doesn't make sense I'm lacking sleep and not caught up with the manga currently so feel free to ignore what I'm rambling about in the favor of out great 🤔 anon
THANK YOU I LOVE YOU 💙

JJK manga spoilers at the undercut! long tanget at the undercut!
(Continued for the storytelling!) Okay so 👀 in a very tragic turn of events where Gojo tries to Yuta-style his way out of the Prison Realm, but it goes oopsies and he's actually 'dead' dead and MC stares in disbelief at what she's seeing because this can NOT be real, oh but I'm sorry it is. And this is the one thing, the image of his best friend lying dead in front of him, that gives Geto much longer control over his body and he crawls over to Gojo and his hands are shaking.
(Part 2) He's clawing at himself to wake up from this nightmare to no avail. Nothing will change what's happened and MC flips, kicks him in the face, grabs him by his clothes and slams him onto the nearest surface yelling about how "is this what it takes for you to finally snap out of it?!" why couldn't he have done it sooner??! MC is filled with rage. That's not Geto. She knows it's not Geto, but she's just so angry from her warped sorrow and tells him that even though he changed so much.
(Part 3) and did all those things as a Curse User, she still grieved for him. She missed him so freaking much, dreaming of what could be with all of them together. She hated the fact he had to die because of those actions, and now??? What good is snapping out of it now when she knows she'll have to kill him again because the real Geto already died once before and once she ends the life of whatever is controlling him, the remnents of Suguru will die out again as well. Shes losing them both again.
(Part 4) "What went wrong those 11 years ago??!" They're both such idiots, she thinks, crying furiously. Stupid mistakes, stupid actions. What was Satoru thinking? Why would he try something like that? Why couldn't they have communicated better, why did all those little things have to add up until they got to this point, something that never should've happened? The pain and the sorrow, the hammering of her heart and difficulty breathing is too much. "I can't live in a world without Satoru."
(Part 5) And Suguru looks so sad, and he tries to tell her it's the real him- she knows, tells her that he's sorry. Tries to crawl over back to Satoru's corpse, MC tells him bluntly that he better not lose control as she lets him while keeping a careful eye on him, she won't let Satoru get hurt if the Thing takes over again. She can see in between his words and mumbling to his friend's corpse that he's fighting, and fighting even more once he tells her the name of what's controlling him.
(Part 6) "Kenjaku." He pleads with her, crying out her name to listen as he says. The Thing was after the Six Eyes, with Satoru dead another will be born, but a baby cannot replace The Strongest, the Honored One, (oh how she knows, Satoru was all she had left.) What he asks of her, is impossible. She cannot defile his body in such a way. To take out his eyes, replace her own with them. Her body is compatible to different cursed energies, like moldable clay, and with Shoko's healing.
(Part 7) the transplant has a chance of working flawlessly. She hates it. Satoru is worth more than his stupid powers, but Suguru is trying hard to fight Kenjaku twisting his tongue and silencing his voice, he's croaking out desperately, that if she wants everyone to live, for all her friends to live and defeat The Thing then she must. The Six Eyes have always been its worst enemy. She cannot let that power die out when the world needs it for salvation. She agrees.
(Part 8) She apologies. For kicking him in the face. It's fine, Suguru says, he's forgives it, and he knows it was somewhat deserved. Its time now, they know what needs to be done. It's over quick and easy, one shot through his heart, and not a trace of blood drops to the ground, the wound seared shut from the heat of her attack. The only traces of Suguru Geto that remains on this earth are the bloodstains miles away from here in Shibuya, at the Tomb of the Star, where destiny was destroyed.
(Part 9) Before she ends it all, she makes a wish. If they were to be reborn again, it'd be nice if they could find each other once more and make sure everything goes right. Suguru had smiled when she let her technique go. He too, had promises to keep. "Say hello to Satoru in heaven for me." She forces a smile on her own face, tears having not yet dried. No use holding onto her rage as she takes away Suguru's life. That shouldn't be the last thing he sees.
(Part 10) She'll have to comfort herself with this, that they were at least together now. She hopes they can rest peacefully, it'll be the only kind thing given to them at this point. It'd been far too long and they deserve that rest so long overdue from the harsh tales their birth had woven into them. (Reaching for Gojo's eyes feels like betrayal. Note: I want that one line to be a total opposite of another line earlier on in their fight where she says, "Well then, come dance with me in hell!")
(Part 11) when fake!Geto probs said something about sending her there as a farewell or goodbye or whatever, idk haven't worked that bit out yet lol. It's so I can contrast the change in her negative mindset to being much calmer, to think of something more positive for those two. That 'that's' where they'll be. Suguru isn't the kind of evil Kenjaku is. It's the final acknowledgement and fully giving up her hatred.) Omg this is so long, I'm sorry. I hope its enjoyable at least??? *hearts and hugs*
Lol whoops, I forgot to mention but MC also kinda slaps Suguru after kicking him in the face and it's that moment of being stunned that lets her grab him, it's good that the "real" Geto doesn't fight back because geez Kenjaku controlling him is way too strong, a long-distance fighter and a great martial artist. At least then it's easier to get him in a chokehold and try to rip off the stitches hiding that cowardly brain.
Tumblr media
Idk why but I think it’s cause I have no idea who your MC is that I am not really following lol. And I am not that great with canon material, but I am sure that Gege has mentioned that there isn’t much of Suguru left in his body. Cause even though his technique and his heart and all is there, I think the brain (or Kenjaku)’s power is to not only take over the host, but also shape themselves around the core of the host’s spirit. So in general it’s kinda like Mahito?
But I guess I enjoyed it? Idk it’s a lot, I can’t process much of it because I think I am too in the dark of your MC, but I also enjoy the entire thing? Idk, I am a mess of how I should feel cause I can barely process the entire Shibuya Arch lol.
Also does that mean that the Gojo clan does not have a head anymore? How is that going to work? Or are they going to take her in as the new head? Wouldn’t the world’s axis shift too cause because she isn’t the original owner of the Six Eyes. She doesn’t know how to use his Technique - I am assuming she is a no name before she took his eyes. Doesn’t that mean that open up an entire new Arch in your timeline as it is?
Honestly, now that I look over it again, there is so much going on that I am surprised that there are people out there with such rainbow brains to be able to think of something as insane as this. There is so much detail that it kinda blows my mind lol.
But I love that you shared so much cool ideas with me, anon! if you ever write this, do tag me so that i can read. or tag me in your entire MC timeline - I would love to explore this even more!

so today in "wow people really have no idea how to do a media analysis" news there was a post on the jjk subreddit (yes i know but at least it's not anime twitter) about how funny it is that gege akutami consistently, publicly hates gojo. all of the comments were about how gege must hate him bc of how annoying it is to write around an op character and like. did captain marvel discourse just rot everyone's brains. jjk manga spoilers below the cut.
almost all of the major arcs up through shibuya are setting up introducing pieces that lead up to gojo being sealed away. it is telegraphed EARLY that the main antagonist's plan hinges on getting him out of the way. the prison realm is introduced in chapter 12. the sister school event arc doubles as development for yuuji and set up for the gojo-specific barriers used later on. even letting gojo be unleashed at the end of the arc is a good show-don't-tell of why gojo has the reputation he has. then the flashback arc introduces gojo's relationship with getou and why kenjaku is using his face as the one that will stop gojo in his tracks.
so much of the worldbuilding relates to gojo's position as "the strongest sorcerer." he wasn't written op on accident! and clearly it was all building to this current culling game arc. what happens when there's a complete shift in the balance of power because gojo's gone. gege didn't write themselves into a corner in any way and it's wild to me that people actually think that lmao.
"oh it must be annoying to have to come up with dumb reasons why gojo can't always just save the day" but the reasons aren't dumb hand waves? gojo's not around in the cursed womb arc specifically because the powers that be wanted him out of the way so they could try to murder yuuji. gojo's locked out in the goodwill event arc because it's a fucking setup for shibuya. he's not around in the death painting arc because no one thought the mission would be that dangerous. none of these are annoying dumb reasons! they all make sense!
like jjk is so good because it's actually well written! why are you all so stupid!

GojoHime, Cargo (Gojo x Prison Realm lol, I just found out its a ship?), RanpoSano, Black Sun, KidaMika? One from each so you don't get too many bnha requests!
THANK YOU NONNIE <3 <3 <3
For this (x)
GojoHime
vomit / don’t ship / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
The vomit response is more about the shippers than the ship itself to be honest XD GojoHime is a big notp for me. At first it was something that I just didn't ship because they barely interact and have no chemistry but then the shippers made themselves known and now I can't stand the pairing at all. Too many GojoHime (not all thankfully) are willing to ignore Gojo's canon relationships and make it look like he and Utahime are the closest in the manga/anime. And they've also fooled themselves into thinking that somehow Utahime, a character we barely know, who Gege has told us firsthand that she doesn't like Gojo but is willing to work with him as a colleague, is his endgame ship. I doubt JJK will even have endgame ships considering the type of manga it is but if it did, it would not be a pairing that have little interaction and no chemisty.
It's just your typical "boy and girl interact and the fandom thinks they're supposed to be shipped" couple that always appears in the fandom <.< If you do ship them, then you do you, but don't become as insane as some shippers for it.
Cargo (Gojo x Prison Realm)
vomit / don’t ship / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
Gojo may be inside the Prison Realm at the moment but that is not because he loves it... It's because he loves Geto.
RanpoSano
vomit / don’t ship / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
I've seen this ship around in the fandom and while I don't ship it, I definitely understand why people do after reading Yosano's past in the manga. It is very cute and wholesome ship but I just think they work better as siblings. Plus the ship goes against my personal headcanons for one of them (I headcanon Yosano to be a lesbian admittedly) so I'll never really ship it.
Black Sun (Blake/Sun)
vomit / don’t ship (anymore) / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
I used to enjoy Black Sun when I was first watching RWBY. It was clear that both Blake and Sun had good chemisty and puppy crushes on each other however as the Bee's became a more apparent ship and the love between Yang and Blake was being shown more and more in canon, I kind of fell out of love for it and for Bumbleby instead. It's still a fun ship to look back on and I'll admit I also like to dip my toes into Sunny Bees (Blake/Yang/Sun) from time to time because it's a fun ship.
I am upset about the hatred that Sun can get from the fandom though just because he used to be in the running as Blake's romance. He's a fun character who clearly cares for Blake, leave him alone for gods sake, it's clear Bumbleby is on it's way to becoming canon so he isn't the competition you think he is anymore (and anyone who at this stage denies that really needs to re-watch the series).
KidaMika
vomit / don’t ship / okay / cute / adorable / perfect / beyond flawless / hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
A ship I actually don't mind :o
Kida and Mikado are definitely a fun ship! They're also a ship that is full of lack of communication or miscommunication which would definitely be fun to explore in fanfic (as it's just canon but then you add the romantic spin on it). They're you cutesy childhood friends ship that becomes a bit less cutesy when they become the leaders of their own gangs and accidently start a gang war between each other because they didn't know the other was the leader (though tbh Mikade spent that arc trying to diffuse everything because he's both a good boy and is caught up in the highs that is being a gang leader).
If only Kida would stop running away from his problems or blaming them all on Izaya then maybe the fallout in canon wouldn't have been so bad...
