A grim knight in the world
He didn't know why that new wolf-knight themed Grimm scared him, but at the same time it gave him a sense of familiarity. It was concerning for him, he was surprised by the hound when it took Oscar in Atlas, but this new Grimm scared him more than the first beowulf he saw when he was still untrained and on his way for his forged transcrips for Beacon. It didn't help the fact that he made him retreat from Atlas before he could enact the plan were he had fight Salem and endure so his friends could escape Atlas alive, maybe it was a bad idea, since he was talking about a freaking magical and inmortal old hag with probably TOO MUCH free time and an enormous grudge against his husband, who was in the body of a prepubertal boy... yep, normal as eff
But he was rambling right now
After they leaved Atlas, he, his team, RWBY, Qrow and Penny fought with the Grimm wolf knight him more than once, he always retreated with just a wound and followed them to everywhere, it was almost like he knew where they would go. It was curious that the knight Grimm always aimed for him only and occasionally Yang and Oscar, but in the end, he was always the target. Not Nora, not Ren, not Ruby, not Oscar or any other in his group, him. It was even curious that the Grimm knight tried to cut Cinder's head when she was about to kill Ruby and Penny in their way to Vacuo and he could only watch from afar, he and Ruby could swear that his topaz eyes changed to a deep saphire when he helped her to stand up. He was also skeptical about the identity of the humanoid Grimm, he called himself Alexandrine Arc, whose name was of his great-great grandfather, man whose history was as lost as Blake in a mall with only blond people and whose weapon was a sword and shield combo, not a great sword similar to his own after the upgrade in that village in anima
But again, he was rambling thanks to the nerves
it didn't took him too much to put two and two together and reveal the mystery of that humanoid grimm after some fights and some small chat with him when they crossed swords, it was clear to him who the masked man was, but he needed to be sure before jumping that bridge. That's why he made a plan for that in three simple steps, Step 1; wait for his ambush and made him bring Grimm or Salem's henchmen to distract the group. Step 2; find and make him follow him to a far away place to talk freely without breaking the mind of his friends. And lastly, Step 3; confront him. This plan was also a failure, the grimm knight sure as hell knew partially what he planned but followed his lead just to humor him. And when he finally got him alone to talk in a vast death forest in the frontier between Vacuo and Vale? Well, that was complicated
"... Alexandrine, that's not your name, Isn't it?" aske Jaune, whose sword was being sheathed on his shield, the grim knight only watched "i know your name... your true name..." that got an angry reaction of the grimm
"SILENCE!" he raised his sword and dashed to the blonde, who didn't move an inch, and when the name was said, he stopped, took a deep breath and cleaved his sword on the ground
"Jaune Arc... that is your name" the Grimm knight growled, his long sword changed to how it looked before, gold guard and a shining silver blade took the place of the stylish design on the blade and the bat wing looking guard. It was Crocea Mors again, looking as new as the day he got it from that blacksmith time ago "what happennd to you to leave you like this?"
"it was my fault... i made a dangerous wager and i lost, everyone died!" in that moment, the wolf mouth of his helmet open wide and leaved his head to reveal his face. Ashen white and long hair with only one blond fringe, tired red eyes with black sclera and veins popping out from his eyes and standing out on his bone white skin. The face and those words were enough to make him sheathed his sword on his shield sheath for an explanation
"plan?... then, that mean-" before his mind could go to think the consequences of his plan, his Grimm twin confirmed his suspicious
"yes, our plan failed, Salem won" he avoided his gaze, anger was found in his voice while he clenched his fists "they died... by Salem's word and by my own hand" this time his eyes moistened
"you... what..." tears came from him too, first was Pyrrha, now he had to lose all his friends too? and the worst of all, he was their executioner? "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!? DID YOU LOSE YOUR MIND!?" Jaune clenched his hands and even readied to fight with his fists, but the other Jaune didn't flinch
"lose my mind? how could i not?... all our life seems to be cursed by the twin gods, our family is tied with Salem and Ozpin, Remnant killed my family with reasons based in fear for the hypothetical power they could have. And after killing all my friends while i was not in control of my body, while she made me the general of her Grimm... my sanity, it died with them" he looked how his Grimm twin took his version of Crocea and give it back his dark form, only to be sheathed in a black, red and white sheath he generated with some weird looking black liquid
"did...did you also killed Ruby?" he knew very well the answer, and wondered if he was secretly a masochist for wanting to feel that wound in his heart, more tears hanged from his eyes as he downed his gaze to the dirt. As for the Ozpin and Salem being his many great grandparents, he just shoved it in the most deeper part of his mind, right now he needed his mind clear to try to understand his evil twin and his motivation, as dumb or inconsistent as they could be
"... i did, she said that she was glad to meet me at Beacon, that i was the best friend she could ask along with Penny... that she loved me... and then, she died with a smile on her face" that moment got a sad smile on his ivory face, even in her dead she looked so radiant and brave, not scared from him after their second meeting as huntress and Grimm. He only lamented the outcome and cursed that gift from his ancestor
"so?... you want my place don't you?" he asked, Jaune thought it was obvious. Both of them were family of a pair who didn't knew about couple therapy and killed possibly one, two or three of their daughters (not four, since his existence proved that one survived), so he wanted to kill him or made him take his place as the Grimm wolf knight
"in that your wrong, i came here with a task and a choice to do, those are, your world or mine?" Grimm Jaune circled him while he looked warily at his actions, how he calmed and was confused by his words
"mine or yours?" he was confused, but with the more information he had from his twin, the more he was lost at his reason to be there
"Salem stole the brother gods magic and gave me the choice to throw away everything in order to bring a dead world back to life i must sacrifice another self... That's the task i have. When someone of another world die, someone from this world is saved, in those terms, i must decimate your world to save MY world"
"... " he was lost of words, was he really that bad when his partner died or that only applied to his twin? either way, he was bound to stop him "you truly lost your mind"
"if it bring back my family, my friends... and Ruby. Then it's a price i'm willing to pay" Jaune knew he was serious, he was him after all, and that meaned that it would be a pain in the ass to fight against himself
"then i will not let you" he unsheathed his sword and pointed it to his twin, who was not amused by his answer
"just think about it for a moment, you can bring back Pyrrha, Clover and all the people who died by Cinder and Salem's hands. All this sorrow and pain can be avoided!" he opened his arms and looked around the dead grey forest they were
"if by destroying this word means that many more can be saved... then i will have to pass"
"let me say this again, you can save RUBY by doing that!" now his patience was giving up, how dared him to let his team die like that!? to let Ruby die on his arms!!? even his hands were shaking from pure anger at himself
"i know, but i would be saving your Ruby, not mine" that sounded as he didn't care about them, he did care, but those were the dead ones, the ones who were alive were fighting and succeeding to beat the small battalion of Grimm his twin brought with him
"so that's your answer? didn't we said that if our dead bringed time for RWBY's victory, then so be it!? why change that now!?" it was ironic, he disliked Salem, but right now he saw the resemble with her in his twisted version of him. it made him shiver just thinking about the process to make him look like the crazy inmortal ex-wife of Ozpin
"because that would make MY team and MY Ruby very sad, and that is something i can't allow" he did ready this time, he took his stance and prepared for the inminent fight with himself. That took the ‘you are your own sworn enemy’ thing to a next level on his mind
"and here i thought that you would understand since i am you" the Grimm looked at himself with a betrayed expresion, one that later passed to be an angered one "you will regret this!"
"i'm already regreting being me, being an idiot who didn't thought better" he ran at himself, semblance activated, shield up and sword ready for a strike
"what's done cannot be undone" his twin did the same, not before covering his face with his wolf helmet and unsheated his sword mid way to his human version
with the great sword on his right hand, he swinged his sword at Jaune, who got the cover with his shield and later did two opposite slashes at his Grimm version, the wolf knight dodged without moving to much and later crossed his sword with himself. After couple of seconds later, both of them took distance and ran at each other again
"HAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!/HOOOOOOOOOHHHH!!!" their part concluded with Grimm Jaune’s sword hitting Jaune's shield while the human one was preparing to parry his attack
Far away from the border of Vacuo and Vale
"so in the end i win despite Ozma's silver eyed pawn and my family on his side... this war has become more interesting" Salem laughed, watching the battle of his two descendants(one more perfect than other, in her opinion) from a seer Grimm in the comfort of her castle and surrowded of her minions, with mixed reactions from all of them
Watts was amazed from a scientific point view, and wondered if the process was the same as Cinder. Tyriand laughed and watched amazed the little huntsman he was interested, along with Neo. Mercury and Emerald while amazed too, they were actually a little scared about the Grimm twin of Arc. Hazel was wondering what to do about him, he was his queen child, so he was probably untouchable, but he was also Ozpin’s child, se he wanted to repay him with the same coin... what to do, what to do. And lastly, Cinder, she was pissed and hoped for both to die in a draw. It was understandable on her words, the guy not only give her a scar on her left eye in Heaven, but also tried to cut her head to save that damn red child
"watch carefully everyone, since he is my successor, the future general of my army and the key of my victory along with the maiden powers" everyone nodded, and waited for the end of the fight, if there was an end to this battle
To be continue

i love how the concept that ‘our weapons are an extension of ourselves’ is applied to romance in rwby.
ren cements his decision to stay with nora and look after each other by giving her a wooden hammer - her first weapon, and obviously the inspiration for magnhild. both ren and nora were shaped by what happened in kuroyuri but the fact that nora still uses the same type of weapon really drives home how much ren changed nora’s life and how much she cares about him. the weapons each character uses doesn’t just say a lot about their fighting style but also who and what inspires them to fight in the first place.
that’s romantic as shit.
Tumblr media
after pyrrha died, jaune decided that the best way to honour her memory was by using her amour to upgrade his weapon (and armour). he even commissioned her tiara to be added to his shield along with his symbol, symbolizing that pyrrha is still with him and protecting him in battle. jaune wants nothing more than to carry on pyrrha’s legacy and showing us how the extension of who he is has changed from a hand-me-down he was clumsily forcing himself to aspire to be to a weapon of his own choosing that reminds him of someone who made him realize what was really important to him.....is so great.
it’s tragic but uh, still romantic as shit.
Tumblr media
the only time we’ve seen a character use another person’s weapon (besides a quick instance of ren using crocea mors in V4 & another of ruby protecting pyrrha with one of penny’s swords in V3) has been yang using gambol shroud - and it wasn’t a one-off either. their combo attack even revolves around blake throwing gambol shroud at yang and then launching her at their enemies. and they’re capable of switching it up on the fly, showing how comfortable and at ease yang is with gambol shroud - and in essense, with blake herself. weapons are very personal to the user, and you’d think someone with trust issues as deep-rooted as blake wouldn’t be the one to lend out her weapon to someone but blake trusted yang with her weapon as early as V1C8 and trust has become such a cornerstone for their relationship. again - they’re the only ones who have continually SHARED a weapon. not to mention, there’s a lot of symbolism behind both girls using the broken pieces of gambol shroud to finish off adam and what that means in relation to the contrast of blake’s relationships with adam and yang - all told through her weapon.
you know the drill. ROMANTIC. AS. SHIT.

RWBY: The Importance of Change
I’m still very much invested in RWBY and I just like to whine so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but it’s so bad now.
Tumblr media
In my not-so-humble opinion, one of RWBY’s biggest problems is not letting the little changes sink in or even respecting what it means to make those changes.
Sure, the villains win sometimes and the world is worse for it, but the characters remain almost stagnant throughout the whole thing. Not to say there isn’t some minor changes: Yang no longer yearns for Raven’s approval, Ruby is more confident in giving orders and Blake is a little less brooding, I suppose. And all these are very important, but they’ve dropped the ball on so many other occasions.
Tumblr media
Penny Polendina was a character done very dirty by the RWBY staff.
I liked her from the get-go, I’m a sucker for crouching moron, hidden badass characters. When she died, it was a huge moment and Ruby reacted appropriately. Once.
Penny was. rarely mentioned in volumes 4, 5 and 6 until her return in volume 7 and, being that she was one of the series’ most prolific deaths, that’s unfortunate. Pyrrha’s death was felt by all and though they didn’t show the other characters in a constant funk because of it, you see Jaune rewatching her old training videos, and using her armour to augment his own and mourning at her statue. Penny was arguably not as close to Ruby as Pyrrha was to Jaune, but she was still a friend and yet she doesn’t seem to cross Ruby’s mind that often.
When Penny ultimately returned, she had all her memories intact and she was just the same old robot girl. A much better change would have been if she were remade but without her old memories causing Ruby to have to befriend her all over again, which would be harder given her responsibilities. Another decent change might have been if her “father” had died remaking her and she was a lot more low energy and duty-oriented to do right by him.
Tumblr media
Crocea Mors is the sword and shield belonging to the Arc family that has remained unchanged for several generations. It had an interesting gimmick in that it had no gimmick. In a world where everything is also a gun, Jaune, an incompetent huntsman, had a really big knife.
In Volume 4 he upgraded it a bit to basically become a bigger knife, and, while I thought it was cool at the time, I’m now realizing that Jaune just casually modified a 100 year old set of equipment.
And it wasn’t as if they were old and worn, they were in great condition and still very effective in the right hands. The fact that no one for a hundred years had even bothered to add a slot for dust is a testament to the value they had as they were. But then, all he really did was give it more swinging power.
Then, in Atlas, he just casually adds hard light and gravity dust and, while it’s now a more versatile weapon, it’s not the antique heirloom it was before. I feel like there should have been at least some emotion with modifying something that has remained virtually unchanged for a century.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, change is a powerful thing and should be treated as such,

http://dudeblade.tumblr.com/post/159724441860/jaune-critical
Yeah, critical. And I’m jesus.
I do not hate Taiyang Xiao Long to the point where I want him to die. Get some consequences for his insensitive comments, yes. But I do not want him to die
This si an example of Dudeblade’s overall problem: He picks and chooses who he has a problem with when other characters should be getting the shaft. In this instance, due to her insensitive comments being intentional, her constant abandonment of her family and mistreatment of them, Raven Brawnen should be getting the shaft here, not Taiyang.
I do not hate Sun Wukong to the point where I want him to die. Get injured or face consequences for constantly bothering Blake, yes. But I do not want him to die. And he did get consequences (to an extent) for constantly bothering Blake.
In this instance, since she was being twice as ivasive, contributed less to the story and sides with Sun, Kali should be getting the shaft as well, especiallyas Sun was constantly saving or helping Bake and without him she woud have been found by the WHite Fang. Yet she is ignored.
Can’t say the same thing about Jaun/e Ar/c though.
Yes and why is that? Because you have already explained this in another post of yours in which you said Jaune needed to die because he got into Beacon and didn’t pick up on Weiss’ signals despite Pyrrha fitting most of these qualifications to eve better degree than Jaune?
It’s pretty obvious by this point that if the character is straight, white and male you will demonize them because unless they’re a paragon and even then you will just attack the writers.
SO let’s go through and see just how faulty your arguments are.
I can’t exactly handle jau/ne. He’s a selfish jerk.
If that was a qualification for your hate and dedicating hate posts as this is self proclaimed, then by your own logic Raven Branwen should be getting more hate as Jaune has done selfless things in the past (Such as helping Neptune wow Weiss, Jaune giving support to Pyrrha when she was struggling to become the Fall Maiden, Not throwning sap onto Pyrrha despite that costing him his dreams nearly and even giving up his sadness and strength he gained in Volume 4 so he can direct it all to Ruby and improve her as a character.) While Raven has not done one selfless thing besides her rule and abandoned her daughter and lover to lead a tribe that her own twin calls out, marudes villages for supplies then leaves them to die by Grimm hands and never once takes the guilt for it and dooms the world to Salem because her brother called her out on being a shitty parent towards a child she does not care about. And yet Raven gets away with it while you’re here hating on Jaune.
mean, what would happen if any other character were to do what ja/une did? - Y’know, smelting his dead girlfriend’s stuff to give himself an upgrade. I bet that they’d be called out on their actions.
There was a theory about Blake having taken Yang’s Emebr Celica and running away with it as a memento. The problem here is that Yang is not dead, the Ember Celica is unique and Blake abandoned her, all of which does not apply to Jaune. But no one called out that theory, not even the writers, and here you are.
And that’s even getting into Ren and his dad’s knife or the fact that Ruby’s attire is based off her dead mom’s. Remnant would be a logical place where mixing the weapons and attire of the dead into your own as a way of keeping them alive through you. You also called Pyrrha his girlfriend and never once mentioned that Croces More was his family heirloom meaning Pyrrha lives on so long as an Arc does and makes Pyrrha permeant family member.
Apparently, he can do this however he wants.
Which is why Jaune gets called out on his behavior (like Ruby did in Volume 1) or he calls himself out (like he did in Kuroyuri in Episode 10). This doesn’t really work.
I bet if Ruby wanted to take a bit of Penny to integrate into her outfit and/or weapon, her creator would be all “No bitch.” and shove her out of the office where she would likely have requested it.
... She did though. Looking at her Volume 4 outfit, Ruby took clear inspiration from Penny with her undershit being very similar to Penny’s with the collar looking identical in shape to Penny’s as well as her dress/corset mealding with her under shirt just as Penny did. Ruby obvious DID incoperate Penny into her outfit... This took me two minutes to research. There is no excuse for this.
Why is he the strategist again? - I mean, Ruby was actually shown to be a strategist, and had good plans.
You’re right, he’s not the strategist: He’s the tactician. The difference between a strategy and a tactic is the difference between what and how: What the goal is and how it is achieved. Ruby is the strategist in that she found the Grimm and knows they must defeat it, Jaune is the tactician in that he finds the way. Going back to Volume 1, ruby new they couldn’t run from the Grimm so they decided to fight and Jaune figured out the simplest and safest way to kill his Grimm (use the sting and Nora’s hammer). While Ruby did so for her Grimm, her way put herself in a lot more danger than anyone in Jaune’s plan. Jaune is not a good leader but he’s good at directing people and supporting the, AKA he’s a support character which he was delegated to this Volume.
DBZA Goku’s plans would probably be better than Jaune’s. If he was set up to be the strategist, then his ‘strategies’ should be treated seriously.
1. Goku is implied to eb the source of his son Gohan’s intelligence, not Chi CHi so you just complimented Jaune.
2. You mean like “Circe it” where before they did that everyone was getting their asses handed to them then when they did The Nuckelveee started having a lot of trouble.
Comparing Jaune to Sokka from A:tlA is an insult to Sokka. Jaune is no strategist. If her were, then he’d say, “Destroy that thing’s body, and stop its escape when we finish the first part!”
You mean like this? https://youtu.be/IZKpkzPIRlw?t=11m35s A literal second after what you reference. So only initial plans are allowed okay: Sokka's initial plan for escaping the steam jail was “to fly” that’s it. He said more afterward but since you disallowed that from jaune, I’m just being fair.
Also, “Run around in circles”? that’s the best tactic you could come up with? - We all know that this was an excuse for miles to show off his favorite character’s new sword mode.
That;s becausde the Nucklevee at the time focused onto a single point to attack. the only one of tehm who ever got any hits in wwas Ren who was doing exacty that so Jaune was simply using observation.
Also that sword mode was kind of useless. All it really ddi was get Jaune bitch slapped, not mention that Ruby was able to pin down her her singe handedly while Jaune need Ren to hold his down so Jaune’s not getting any special treatment.
He’s also the only one to be mourning Pyrrha.
STOP!
*Screeches the train to a halt*
What the hell are you talking about? Ruby is also mourning Pyrrha, she clearly shows it in both Episode 2 and in episode 10! And in episode 10, Jaune directly says the only reason he has gotten stronger is because of Ruby and even brushes off his own sadness to make Ruby look better! That’s an outright lie!
Yes I wished Ren and Nora would have mourned her as well but considering the fact that they were dealing with the monster that destroyed their village and killed Ren’s parents, I think that’s a bit more to angst about then one person you knew for a year. Yeah one is sad but I think a longer standing wound that cuts deeper warrents more attention!
And heres the thing, you don’t consider the fact that the show doesn’t have enough time, that there isn’t enough t show them mourning properly because tehre’s already so much to focus on even without that. And don’ts at cut Jaune’s screentime because he’s the only logical catalyst for Ruby and I don’t think 5:52 minutes will mean jackshit to the narrative.
In comparison to Ruby (A character who has lost her mother and friend), Ren (A character who has lost his entire village), or Nora (A character who lost her near everything) this comes off as incredibly insensitive.
Okay, 1. That does not woek here: Everyone is entitled to their own sorrows. You know, that quote from the beginning fo the fucking White Trailer.
2. You have called em out for apparently saying Yang isn’t allowed to angst because taiyang has it harder but now Jaune isn’t? Pretty fucking hypocritical.
3. Jaune beat you to the punch and unlike you, he acknowledges Ruby’s strength as well. Jaune has done a better job at his own criticism than you have.
He’s also the only character to get angry at Qrow. And for some reason, Ruby decides to not come to her Uncle’s defense.
Jaune si the only reason to get angry at Qrow here because Ren and Nora never saw what the Maiden thing was doing to Pyrrha and how they were pressuring her and Ruby is social awkward meaning she doesn’t have the tools to do anything but just try to grasp why the person she trusted so much is hiding so much from her. In that scene, the way Jaune is talking indicates that he is being overly hostile meaning Jaune is not treated as in the right there either. They’re both wrong and they both deserve a narrative boot to the back.
However, in the fight with Tyrian, Jaune clenches his eyes and tries to look away when Ruby is about to be beaten. But then Qrow shows up, and saves her. Jau/ne did nothing, and Qrow did everything.
Okay, 1. What could Jaune do? Nora Ren and especially Ruby got their asses handed to them and are better fighters than him. Do you want Jaune to jump in and attack Tyrian, because this either results in A. Tyrian killing jaune and now ruby ahs THAT on her mind so expect suicide. B. Jauen fails and Ruby dies because Jaune got in the way or C. They both die. That is the only options and Jaune probably knows this and feels helpless. Also, he’s the god damn audience surrogate: Just as we’re helpless, so Jaune.
2. Qrow is a god damn Grimm magnet due to his Semblance and all the wonderful angst that brings. I wouldn’t be surprised in 70% of the Grimm that attacked them where after Qrow and decided the teens looked tasier.
3. You are not allowed to call anyone oyt for being ungrateful. Yang is allowed to insult and belittle her father;s pain and you accept that, despite him taking care of her for eighteen years. You are not allowed to play that card.
Why does he get to save Qrow? - To show that he can put aside his grudges? Strategically speaking, Ruby would have been a better choice to save him. She has super speed for crying out loud!
No, it’s to show that Jaune has let go of his grudge against Qrow and is finally and truly moving forward for the sake of his friends. Just as well: Jaune is the weakest link in the group. Ruby can act as a temporary tactician in his place and he isn’t very strong so they won’t be losing much to save Qrow and repay their debut to him.
Why is Tyrian interested in Jau/ne? It just feels as if Jau/ne is being a black hole of attention right now.
... That’s nota  good thing. It’s the equvilant of Freddy Krueger making kissy face at you: It’s meant to freak you out and scare you because their psychotic. Just as well, the purpose of the scene is intensified by the fact that Jaune is the audience surrogate so this is meant to subconsciously freak you out more. Not to mention the fact that this isn’t addressed ever again and it=s treated more as a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.
Ps. Considering how everyone is bending to Yang in your fanfic, you are not allowed to make Black Hole sue jokes.
It’s just really hard to not see Jaune as miles’ self-insert at this point. I mean, if Ren or Nora were the ones bemoaning the senseless loss of life, we would eventually know why. And it would carry much more weight to it.
No, it wouldn't. Because that’s us. Everything Jaune has said this volume has been a reflection of us.
Him struggling to move forward?
Becoming more cynical?
Weary at the loss of life?
Attributing their strength to Ruby?
Anger at Qrow for Pyrrha?
This is all stuff I saw in the fandom and in the fanbase. Jaune is just doing what eh was made to do and reflect the viewer. I think that says a lot of about you, Dudeblade.
