omg i love jacinter too! while they’re pretty much still well-loved by the fandom, i did wish more people found them to be their favorites too. i guess it’s sorta understandable because we only got to explore their romance in one book, but marissa meyer made that book enormous so 😭 and i’m not that into snow white as a fairytale, childhood friends to lovers, and grumpy x sunshine dynamic, but i’ve been hooked ever since winter snuck out to meet him (also, jacin’s character and role in the rampion crew very much reminds me of zuko with the gaang so that adds points)

I too often see people saying they were underdeveloped bc they appeared the least, but.... BRO they were in only 1 book, but it was the longest book AND they were also in The Princess and the Guard which was by far the best short story of them all and all together this means they had a fantastic, well developed arc. Watching Jacin grow from a happy, cheerful, caring boy into a repressed man terrified of showing his feelings (and STILL being unable to hide them hehe) sniped my kneecaps. Winter slowly learning that her life is actually horrible and Artemisia is a death trap and learning how to stand up for herself and hide her iron will behind a veil of feigned frailty and innocence is an Experience. I'm also usually not a fan of the "grumpy guy and the sunshine girl he cares for" trope, but that too is effectively avoided by making Jacin care about Cress as well. AND his overprotectiveness is challenged and treated like an understandable side effect of their unfortunate childhoods, but also something that has to be stifled in order for Winter to make her own decisions and be her own person. God I love Jacinter so much

LOVES your hands (i'm a hands person and it shows lol). Loves when you play with his hair, give him a smack every once in awhile for making a particularly snide comment, and especially when you hold his hand.

C = Cuddling (how do they like to cuddle?)

Loves to just lay on you. Not a fan of spooning unless bro is exhausted, but will big spoon you if you need the sleep. Probably a whiny guy in his sleep if he can't get to sleep at just the right temperature.

D = Dates (what does their ideal date with you look like?)

You + him + Rampion. Probably would take you up to look at the stars and talk about things on your mind. An on Earth date would probably be a little different. Dependinng on the day, Thone might take you to a (fancy) restaurant and legit spoil tf out of you because you deserve it. If it's a slower, lazier day, Thorne would pack some stuff up and y'all would go out on a little picnic date somewhere out in the open

E = Emotions (how do they express emotion around you?)

By joking around. If Thorne got particularly emotional during the day, he would sit down with you and try to talk things through.

F = Family (do they want one? If they do, when?)

Not particularly, but if you wanted one was another story. Would probably prefer adoption over anything, but if you wanted biological kids Thorne is down for that too :)

G = Gifts (how do they feel about gift giving? What are their habits when it comes to this?)

Not much of a gift giver unless there's an occasion, but if you or Thorne's away for awhile, he'll pick something up for you that he thinks you'll like.

H = Holding Hands (when/how do they like to hold hands?)

Whenever he sees people watching you or him. He knows that before Cinder became queen, he would often completely disregard almost anything, but now learns to protect what's his and has become very protective tbh

I = Injury (how would they act if you got hurt?)

A mix of anger and some other unnameable emotions. If you guys got together before Levana fell, please expect Thorne to be a hoverer. Even if he'll completely deny his feelings, he's a worrywort.

J = Jokes (do they like to joke around with or prank you? how?)

Not much of a prankster to you, but will 100% make jokes - specifically inside jokes. Inside jokes are super special to Thorne, and reminding you of a funny situation that has happened before always makes him happy

K = Kisses (how do they like to kiss you?)

Me personally in my humble author opinion, Thorne likes that lettle exhale of contentment and your little mewls.

L = Love (how do they show you they love you?)

hovering like a helicopter. Thorne keeps an eye on you, especially if you're recovering from an injury.

M = Memory (favorite memory together?)

When you first held hands

N = Nightmare (what is their worst fear?)

During Levana's reign: You being killed under her orders or him being forced to kill you

After Levana's reign: getting amnesia and forgetting everything about you

O = Oddity (what is one quirk they have?)

A total mother when worried. Other than that, Thorne used to wear multiple layers of underwear as a kid idk i dont make the rules

yes. you cant tell me that when this man is enoamoured and starstruck by his partner he wouldn't show them off and compliment them to every extent. he loves talking about you and could talk about you for hours

Would fight for you, wouldn't want you fighting, but if you did it would be right at his side so he can protect you if need be

eh. at the beginning of the realtionship, he couldn't read between the lines to save anyone's life. later on in the realtionship, however, could write, publish, and autograph a book on how he's memorized your social cues - just as you could do for him

Y = Yes (how would they propose to you?)

On... the ship. lmao. Would fumble a speech so would just try to spit it right out instead of layering a simple question with a lot of words

But I have no clue who this is. None at all. Who would ever call me gingy? Who could this possibly be? To take a wild guess I’d sayyyy @impossiblesuitcase but idk 🤷‍♀️

The generic answer would be cress ig, pining in scarlet, flirting in cinder, and the kisses in winter (man just GRABS her chin, bro is CONFIDENT).

Thorne*sobbing in distress*: Ok, I’ll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog…When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I went nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out…But the worst thing I ever done — I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa — and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. genuine thoughts on jacolf

~for my fellow jacolf stans~

in-series, jacin and wolf really did not interact much. jacin did help cinder tend to wolf’s injuries in the beginning of cress, so he kinda saved wolf’s life but wolf obv was comatose and not aware. they were both on the rampion at the same time when they were planning Kai’s kidnapping, though wolf was really #depressed. we did not get any direct interactions or dialogue between them that i can think of, but i think there is a potential unspoken dynamic between them that actually could be explored.

i think wolf’s first impression of jacin had to have been resentment. it was jacin who was glamoured by sybil to look like scarlet, which caused the two to get swapped in the first place, and jacin’s presence from that point on probably acted as a reminder to wolf of his failure to protect scarlet. there is also a deeper resentment toward jacin in that he got lucky. he was born with a weak gift and had family in the right places. he was chosen to be a lunar guard. he got to keep his humanity. jacin is around ran’s age. imagine if ran had been drafted as a lunar guard instead?

jacin knows how horrifying the reality of being a lunar soldier is, so I think a secret part of him feels pity towards wolf, or at least the feeling of ‘glad that’s not me,’ along with a reasonable bit of fear, maybe even disgust? in knowing what wolf and all the lunar soldiers are capable of. that changes, of course, when wolf is in his #depression era and as jacin tells winter, “would not stop whining about scarlet,” which must have made jacin realize that wolf is an exception.

after jacin betrays the crew and leaves, we do not see them inhabit the same space for a whileeee. we do know that jacin helped scarlet escape along with winter, but this is not really emphasized to wolf, and he’s honestly just glad that scarlet’s back.

so what then? the revolution ends, the squad is officially the squad™, and jacin and wolf’s girlfriends are lowkey in a homoerotic relationship. because of this, these two dudes probably have to spend a lot of time with each other, and i’d personally like to know what that would be like.

as cold and quiet as these two are, and considering their first impressions of each other, it’s kind of hard NOT to imagine them being awkward, which it probably was at first. but there are so many similarities between them, and like i said, a sense of sympathy from jacin to wolf, (maybe even respect for wolf for overcoming the manipulations), that it would be hard to believe that they don’t at least understand each other in some capacity and have some level of friendship. i mean jacin DID put his entire jacussy into that flower bouquet for wolf and scarlet’s wedding, like he obv cares. i would also like to believe that as an aspiring doctor who already has some prior knowledge, he would take an interest in wolf’s genetic modifications and try to help wolf cope with them (like managing the hunger and stuff) which wolf would obv appreciate.

and idk, maybe one night they just sit down and really talk about everything they’ve been through and afterwards there’s just this unspoken but very deep understanding of one another that’s always there, even though they don’t talk much. idk just bro things. but yeah❤️

The Prince In The Tower

A fic that echoes the connections between Rapunzel and Dirk Strider. Or my timeline at least.

The man, who loved her very much, thought to himself, “Rather than lose my wife I will get some rampion, cost what it will.” So in the twilight he climbed over the wall into the witch’s garden, plucked hastily a handful of rampion and brought it to his wife.

“CUT!” Everything stopped, a brief flash of silence before the team was on the actors, chittering away at what could be improved. Dave rose from his relaxed position in the director’s seat, striding over to the refreshments table for a fresh cup of coffee.

The apartment was almost done. It had to be done before The End. For his little bro.

So he went in the twilight again; and as he was climbing back, he saw, all at once, the witch standing before him, and was terribly frightened, as she cried, with angry eyes, “How dare you climb over into my garden like a thief, and steal my rampion! It shall be the worse for you!”

Slash, dodge, parry, slash. A dangerous dance, but hardly for him. A wet sound permeated the air as the top halves of Dave’s opponents were separated from thier trunks, then a thud as they all met ground. His phone pinged and rang as he cleaned his katana. He picked up, first ring. For a second, everything was silent on the other end.

“I’m done,” Rose said, no grief for the puppets of the crown, “You?”

“Just finished. Everything ready?”

“I made sure, and I assume you did as well.” A click as someone entered the call. A slightly raspy, queen-no-empressly voice echoed down the line.

“So they’re gone. That don’t matter. My species is far befrond yours, an I can assure you I’m not going to lay down easy.”

“I’m waiting.”

In his distress of mind the man promised everything; and when the time came when the child was born the witch appeared, and, giving the child the name of Rapunzel (which is the same as rampion), she took it away with her.

Dodge, Attack, Parry, Dodge. Dirk’s mind ran rampant, creating a hypothetical, an imagining of Bro’s final fight, even as his hands worked, connecting wires and welding parts.

Then, as though he’d gotten shocked, Dirk’s body tensed, and an image of a boy-for that’s all he could be-dressed in red pajamas getting skewered. It flickered, superimposed over an image of Bro, skewered by a gold trident. Bile rose in his throat.

“Dirk?” Hals voice echoed from the other room. “You okay?”

“Yeah,” he choked out, “I’m fine.”

When she was twelve years old the witch shut her up in a tower in the midst of a wood, and it had neither steps nor door, only a small window above.

16. Thats how many years, stretching on and on and-

“Are you going to keep mentally monologuing or do I have to drag you back to your chair.” Hal’s voice snapped Dirk out of his daze, jerking back from the window and shaking his head, as if to dislodge something, before sitting back down at his desk. Hal dropped a plate onto the tabletop, letting it clatter against the wood.

“I know you haven’t eaten yet today, and it’s way past lunch so I better see everything on this plate gone when you get back up.” Hal’s red eyes glowed bright against the black metal that made up the rest of his face, clearly annoyed. Dirk sighed, eyes dropping to the plate and hand coming up to brush through his hair.

“Okay.”

Rapunzel was greatly terrified when she saw that a man had come in to her, for she had never seen one before; but the King’s son began speaking so kindly to her, and told how her singing had entered into his heart, so that he could have no peace until he had seen her herself. Then Rapunzel forgot her terror, and when he asked her to take him for her husband, and she saw that he was young and beautiful, she thought to herself, “I certainly like him much better than old mother Gothel,” and she put her hand into his hand, saying, “I would willingly go with you, but I do not know how I shall get out. When you come, bring each time a silken rope, and I will make a ladder, and when it is quite ready I will get down by it out of the tower, and you shall take me away on your horse.”

GT: Well blimey that sounds fascinating! You’ll have to show me some time!

TT: I’ll try to remember, but you may have to remind me.

A crash sounded behind him. Hal’s scolding sounded from the living room.

TT: Ah, I’ll have to go. It sounds like something got knocked over.

GT: Oh! Goodbye then!

TT: …

TT: I look forward to ending the world with you guys.

And she was so hard-hearted that she took Rapunzel and put her in a waste and desert place, where she lived in great woe and misery.

Dark green towers stretched out ahead of his shocked orange gaze, red mists floating through the toxic green atmosphere.

Was this really what his head was like? Was he that fucked up?

“Aha!” cried she, mocking him, “you came for your darling, but the sweet bird sits no longer in the nest, and sings no more; the cat has got her, and will scratch out your eyes as well! Rapunzel is lost to you; you will see her no more.”

Red streaked through the sky. He lunged, trying to get Jake out of the way-shink-Jake collapsed, a large bloody hole where his stomach used to be.

Jake had only been there to get to him. Jake’s death rested squarely on his shoulders. Dirk’s vision unfocused, everything narrowing to that one bloody hole in his friend.

At first he heard a voice that he thought he knew, and when he reached the place from which it seemed to come Rapunzel knew him, and fell on his neck and wept. And when her tears touched his eyes they became clear again, and he could see with them as well as ever.

Suddenly, hands were pulling at him, hauling him to his feet. Roxy heaved Jake’s limp body over her shoulder, pulling Dirk and Jane after her, to… four slabs of rock, hung in the void. She unceremoniously dumped Jake on a golden bed, before rearranging him to look as if he were sleeping. Or not just dumped there at least. She sat down on a navy slab, Jane and Dirk following suit.

“We have to die here.” Dirk said, Jane and Roxy’s voices echoing the same. Wordlessly, Dirk pulled out a couple small bottles, filled with red mist. They breathed, and so breathed thier last.

Thier bodies began to glow and shine, clothes changing, wounds closing. The Alphas had awoken. The fishbitch’s shit was wrecked.
