I'm afraid Bear died. And my mother took April about a year ago? I dont have a lot of pictures of them, but I found a few on the Desktop.
This is a very young April, with a young me. We had her since she was a puppy. She liked to sneak onto couches and matresses, as depicted. Her goal was to blend in with the cushions, and 9/10 in the dark when getting up for a glass of water you wouldnt spot her.
And this was my darling boy, Bear. He loved his sacked out old bed, even though he had a perfectly find new one. And new toys, but he liked his old one. Bear was a very odd dog. Note how big he was? He was very underweight when we got him, but the same physical size. Bear was just a tank, easily twice as broad as April. He wasn't a cross, weirdly. He wasnt treated very kindly by his racing handlers before we fostered and then adopted him. Poor baby was terrified of everything and prone to lashing out for a while. Forgive my Dad's narration of the video, its all i could find lol. Stumbling across Bear asleep upsidedown was more common than finding him up the right way.
Finding pictures of Sam, Vinnie and Bliss may take a while, they would be on old hard drives. Mum may have them. They died a long time ago. We still have their collars, and tags.
FRIDAY FLASHBACK + HAPPY BIRTHDAY RON DAVIS, my old Brisbanian friend who always shows up with constructive ideas and an upbeat (pun?) attitude. I’m grateful for all the times he and his wife treated me with kindness and hospitality. Here’s a track on which Ron played drums: “Desert Ruby” is a song that emerged during a freaky, dirty 4-day Greyhound bus ride from Tampa to San Francisco.https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/desert-ruby-yellow-house-canyon-mix
...During a long stopover in Los Angeles, the song came to me after I’d fallen asleep there, dreaming about Raymond Chandler, James Dean, T.S. Eliot, and George Gershwin getting into a fender-bender on Sunset Strip. I woke with this sepia-toned bluesy-twangy-metaphor about people who go West to “find themselves,” only to get absorbed by a vast, magnetic place where the clowns, drifters, gangsters, grifters, poets, and mystics endure, surrounded by B-movie canyons and graffiti muerte. The song title was inspired by fruit crate art I’d seen around L.A.—a place where I feel the beauty and ugliness of civilization and love all of it. My lyrics are encrypted with salient Southern California trivia: The death of George “Superman” Reeves, NASA satellite photographs, earthquakes, trailer parks in deserts, Dustbowl migrations, surfers hitchhiking to Malibu, fast food, junk tech, and evangelist Aimee Semple MacPherson.
This take (remix of a 4-track demo with canyons of reverb) features Chris Haggerty on rhythm guitar and Ron’s rock steady drumming. Meanwhile, HB RD.

Greyhound Cafe
Greyhound Cafe offered significant verbiage on its website and its menus. The menu in particular seemed to consist of verbal diarrhoea which I hoped would not translate into the literal version. Thankfully that was something which was avoided.
Putting such nauseating things aside, we turned up to the cafe and were shown to our seats with a vague wave. Would have been nice to have been shown to our seats but the waiters had more important things to do in this almost entirely deserted restaurant. This service quality was to prove consistent throughout the day requiring us to leave our table and accost waiters for service.
I’ve generally had a less than thrilling experience with Thai food in London, so when a friend continuously waxed lyrical about this place, I felt that I had to give it a try. So after waving frantically for service, we finally were able to order.
Thai spicy green curry with a twist and chicken. I’m not sure what the twist is here. The rice seemed a bit too soggy, the chicken breast rather dry and boring and the rice itself seemed like it was only lightly brushed with green curry sauce. The soup and pickles didn’t really help at all. Maybe the twist was that it would taste worse than it looked.
Street style duck noodle soup. This was at least a generous helping of duck leg. However, it didn’t really taste of that much. The soup was bland. The noodles were bland. The duck was… meaty but bland. It tasted like it had been sadly overboiled, not so much that its flesh couldn’t hold its consistency but instead like its flesh had all of its flavour leeched out.
Sea bass Miang. With herbs and leaves and a small salsa dressing this was, somewhat insipid. The skin was not really that crispy and the meat left much to be desired. It tasted almost as if they had put all the flavour in the dressing but then just left it off the fish.
Hot oil pork knuckle. I’m not sure how hot the oil was here or instead if this was a recycled dish. I was disappointed as the skin was not crispy. Instead, it was chewy, fatty and somewhat lukewarm. Suspiciously like it had sat under a heat lamp for quite a while. My disappointment was compounded by the anticipation of crispy pork skin but then depressed with something flaccid turning up.
Young coconut crepe cake. A rather weird dessert, with what I can only guess was giraffe heads on top, I couldn’t really make tails (or heads in this case) of it. Decorated with coconut flesh on the outside, it was kind of weird in a bad way.
Red rubies tub tim krob. Probably the best dish of the day, water chestnuts with tapioca flour, it was better than what had come before. Marginally. Which made it the best dish of the meal. Congratulations! Or probably as the staff might say, congrats, as the full word takes a bit too much effort.
Throughout the meal, service was great. In that it was non-existent. When you could get their attention, it consisted of them ditching everything on a corner or your table and then expecting you to serve yourself. I think you kind of pay the service charge to have someone, you know, serve you. Lazy person that I am, it would be nice to have the utensils put in my general locale rather than all the way across the table. Then again, maybe that’s the point, as the food wasn’t something to rush for and I definitely won’t be hurrying back.
A quiet eating 5/10.
Lunch (1.5 courses) was GBP25 excluding drinks and service.

“Come on, Bucky!”
I laughed and leaned down to link my arm with Pheobe’s. “I don’t remember Dorothy and the Wicked Witch skipping together in the movie,” I joked to the little green girl. I glanced over my shoulder. “Do you, Scarecrow?”
Roy scowled at me, his grim face nothing short of comical with the straw-filled pointy hat and painted face he’d let me put on him earlier that evening. But when I raised my eyebrows at him, he let out a heaving sigh and linked up on Phoebe’s other side. Together, the three of us strolled arm in arm to the next house, where Roy and I watched Phoebe hustle up to the door to get her candy.
I leaned close to Roy and wrapped an arm around his middle. “Having fun?”
His eyes trailed down my blue-and-white checkered dress. “Do we really have to go to the party after this?” he grumbled. “I just want to go home and wipe this shit off my face.”
“Roy,” I cooed mockingly, giving him a squeeze. “Don’t you want to see adorable Dorothy become grown-up Dorothy for the party tonight?” I wiggled my foot at him. “The ruby slippers are going to turn into red stilettos. Gonna need someone to carry me home once they kill my ankle.”
The corner of his mouth ticked upwards, mimicking his raised eyebrows. “One hour. Then it’s no fucking place like home, got it?”
Once Phoebe was satisfied with her haul and had been dropped off with her mom, we quickly stopped to freshen up before Keeley’s annual Halloween bash. I changed into the shoes I’d been teasing Roy about and switched out the knee-length pinafore I’d been wearing for one that stopped midway down my thighs.
Roy raised his eyebrows at me when I found him waiting in the living room. “That’s so fucking unfair, babe,” he groaned, brown eyes raking over my body. “You sure we have to go to this shit?”
Smirking at the exact reaction I’d been hoping for, I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the door. “Let’s go, Kent.”
To no one’s surprise, Keeley’s party was a real rager. The club she was hosting it at was packed with people- Greyhounds, Whippets, celebrities, friends. We wandered around, Roy’s hand on my lower back, greeting familiar faces over the pulsing music. Roy managed to grab us a couple of drinks, which I convinced him to bring to the dance floor; ever since our first date, there one where he took me back to the club we’d met at, I loved getting Roy to dance whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Despite his good-natured eyerolls, Roy leaned close to me as we danced, letting his hand wander a bit more than was appropriate in public. But, between the alcohol and the music and his warm touch, I didn’t care one bit. I pressed my back to him, closing my eyes with a smirk as we moved to the music. I knew by the way Roy grinded against me that he’d make me pay for all this torture.
Sure enough, exactly sixty minutes after our arrival, Roy interlocked his fingers with mine.
“Hour’s up, Coach,” he hummed.
Roy liked to drive fast in that big, stupid car of his. And it was especially true tonight as he nearly ran a few red lights and treated the speed limits like suggestions. The entire time, his hand gripped my thigh, fingers digging into my skin. His jaw was set, gaze straight ahead, looking more like he was preparing to enter a championship game than just driving home with his girlfriend.
“Roy!” I squeaked as he nearly yanked me out of the car once he’d parked.
With his hand firmly on my ass, he practically sprinted to the front door. He unlocked it in record time and slammed it behind him. Relief crossed his face for a fraction of a moment before being replaced with pure lust and desire.
“So fucking mean,” he growled, pressing my back to the wall by the front door. “Wearing that fucking dress, dancing with me the way you did.” His mouth found my neck. “What did I do to deserve that, Buck?”
Despite the fire that was starting to spread over my skin, I rolled my eyes in annoyance. “Don’t call me Buck, Kent.”
His breathy chuckle tickled my neck. “Sorry, darling.” His hands wandered up and down my sides, gripping the blue and white material. “Just looked so fucking good tonight. Forgot my fucking manners.”
When his fingertips grazed the bare skin of my thighs, I let out a deep sigh. “Bedroom?”
To my surprise, Roy shook his head. “Can’t fucking wait that long.”
In an instant, Roy was on his knees in front of me, tugging my already short skirt up to reveal the red lace I’d put on with him in mind. He groaned when he saw the material, reaching out to press one finger to the damp spot he’d caused. Without warning, he lifted my leg- the one with the shit ankle- over his shoulder, leaving me attempting to balance on one stiletto. As if he knew I needed help, he tightened his grip on my hips before pressing his mouth to my clothed heat.
“Fuck!” I gasped as my hips instantly jerked against his face. “Shit, Roy-” With a blissful sigh, I threw my head back, gripping his curly hair tight.
His tongue tugged the material aside, exposing my cunt to his hot breath. “Hello, gorgeous,” he hummed, planting a deep kiss to my pussy lips. “My little Halloween treat.”
Once a month, like clockwork, Rock Lee waited with baited breath for his mail to arrive.

When I was in high school I was obsessed with mushing (sled dog racing). I followed the Iditarod and the Yukon quest and subscribed to Mushing magazine. I imagine the folks running the small press that published the magazine were mildly confused about the one random subscriber they got from Texas.
I distinctly remember declaring as a freshman in high school to my parents I wanted to win the red lantern in the Iditarod.
I now work with (retired) racing dogs, but greyhounds, rather than sled dogs, and am very happy with it.
While I would still love to race in the Iditarod, I have since decided a much more reasonable goal is to hike th triple crown.
this person on livejournal called hells_half_acre has an archive of all the clothes they wear on supernatural and i am taken with the one about sam’s greyhound whippet dog shirt like…
[image id in alt text]
i appreciate the interpretation that he just wears it to sleep. long day of drinking ruby’s blood and getting into situations he puts on the whippet shirt and she’s like “weird shirt :) looks good on you” and he’s like :| :) :|
and i LOVE the interpretation that sam “decides he no longer likes whippets”… looking at his clothes one day and deciding he’s moved on from whippets… they no longer define him… he no longer endorses these weird little dogs… time to get rid of the shirt. these are the issues he’s prioritizing.
We wouldn't use the exact term spirit animal because that would be cultural appropriation but we can answer the question in terms of what animal each Ericson kid would like to turn into.
