Cliché (Might Guy x Reader, Part I)

Synopsis: The real shinobi work went out to the fearless... which wasn’t you. Teaching was more in your realm of comfort, that is, until you’re teamed up with your old academy classmates to lead the next generation of genin.

Notes: Look familiar? It’s the rewrite! Cliché was my first ever fan fiction and I’ve wanted to rewrite it for a big anniversary (which was pushed way back). Dedicated to @altogetherweathered who has been here since day 1.

Sometimes you wondered where the years had gone.

Another year, another batch of genin to train.

You didn’t mind, of course. You looked into the eyes of your new students. Their glossy photographs stared back at you, pinned together with a paperclip. Ryo, Hikaru, Takahiro. They looked sweet and overall, nothing special. They would do nicely. Your eyes scanned the roster, thumbs creasing the paper at the sides as the material began to moisten slightly under the sweaty pads of your fingers. You felt that perhaps you were better at teaching than other types of shinobi work. The real jobs went to the fearless— and you could be honest with yourself— that just wasn’t you. At least with teaching, you received a steady salary. The missions on your roster were genin level for the most part (unless you were summoned for higher level field work which seldom happened). And while children were oftentimes unpredictable, you were never thrown anything outside of your comfort zone. And you could live with that.

Academy from age five, then the chūnin selection exams. A shinobi (or kunoichi) could have their lives planned out from age twelve. Between the mission work and the mandatory academic service required of all non-ANBU, you supposed that this was your prime. You flipped back to the front of your packet to the list of teams that were carefully selected weeks ago. Familiar names associated with faces you hadn’t seen since your teenage years.

Team Asuma. Now that would be one smart team. You remembered Sarutobi well and you didn’t have to have much interaction with him to recognize his brute strength. As you moved down the list, you wondered how he ended up.

Team Kurenai. She probably had about as many reservations as you did. At least that’s what you got through your passing interactions. You seemed to see her most often. Although you could chalk it up mostly to coincidence rather than the fact that Kurenai was a new team teacher this season. With duty, it had been a while since you had an actual conversation with any of your classmates, after all. It was nice knowing you might have a potential ally in all of this. Your eyes fluttered down at the list of names under her. None that you recognized. Although, you weren’t sure why you would recognize any names on the list to begin with.

Team Kakashi. Spirits, bless those children.

Team Guy. You paused. Now there was an underdog. It didn’t take much thinking to remember Might Guy (for he was always far too loud and flashy to forget). A certain amount of anxiety hung over your head like a cloud as a nervous flurry made its way into your chest. You thought back to your academy days, inhaling sharply, as you slowly tried to convince yourself; you’re an adult now, things will be different this time.

“You’re here early.” You barely heard Iruka’s voice over the sound of your yelp. You scrambled back, causing the both of you to stumble in surprise. The younger shinobi held his hands up to his chest, a sheepish expression morphing his lips into an awkward smile. Sheer mortification overtook your heart and your face. Being snuck up on in your line of work was surely something that would keep you up at night for years to come. You fumbled with the roster, putting it down on the desk before remembering that you were supposed to have it anyway.

“So sorry, I was here to pick up the roster and uh… look for you!” You picked the packet back up, gesturing to him with it. He nodded knowingly before making his way over to flip through his masterlist. “Since, you know, I couldn’t make it earlier.”

“Yeah, no, I’m sorry that I wasn’t here. I’m glad you could stop by.” Iruka laughed and the tension in your raised shoulders eased the slightest bit. You wished that you and Iruka were in the same class during the Academy. Maybe things would have been different if you were born two years later. You had to wonder. “I’m still a strong believer that if academic service is required, then sensei should at least be intelligible to be pulled for mission work. I think every year I’ve worked here the team leaders have tried to meet and it’s never worked out for anyone. But I don’t have to tell you that.”

Iruka looked up from his paper flipping, standing with one hand shoved in his pocket as he offered you another gentle smile. You hummed in agreement, mirroring his expression. You had been in mission selection meetings all morning, but as to be expected, you were put on paper-based duties at home base. In all honesty, you were relieved to have missed the action yet again. You always were, although it meant that you didn’t get a lot of interaction with shinobi around your class age. Typically, most of your time revolved around your students and perhaps the jōnin from other student teams if not the same handful of people in the Hokage’s office. Although that interaction was scarce.

“Then I guess it was the usual?” you asked, pulling up a spare chair. Iruka bobbed his head from side to side as he cast his eyes up diagonally.

“Just Kurenai and Asuma. You know how Kakashi is.”

“If timing wasn’t an issue, I’d say that getting to talk to you one-on-one would be a far better system anyway.” You flipped the first page of your information packet, bouncing from the overview to the information specific to your team. “So, tell me about these three. What stands out to you?”

You listened carefully as Iruka walked you through your new team, scribbling down on your papers every now and again. He, like the many other times you had gone over teams with him, was as thorough as you liked. The more you knew about your students from someone who knew them on an academic level— their learning style, their strengths, their weaknesses, their quirks— the more confident you felt in leading them. From your earlier, brief, passing interaction, you knew Kurenai to have a similar team structure: a quiet boy, a quiet girl, and a slightly rowdy boy, all with kekkei genkai. Iruka watched on as you made the last of your notes.

Loud footsteps made their way down the hallway. The sound of boots on tile grew closer, causing both you and Iruka to look towards the door before it swung open with a slam.

“Am I too late?!” You unconsciously sank back into your chair as Might Guy appeared in the doorway. You raised your packet up, although not far enough up to cover your face. You, after all, didn’t want to make your discomfort obvious. Iruka sighed as he quickly thumbed through the papers on his desk.

“Not too late, I have your team overview here.”

“You’re a life-saver, Iruka. Have I told you that?” Guy lumbered over with an exaggerated look of exasperation. Despite your efforts to disappear into your seat (you probably could have if you weaved your hand signs fast enough), Guy’s eyes met yours. The temperature of your cheeks rose as your lips threatened to form a grimace. He glanced from you to Iruka. “Did we have a meeting?”

“No, we were just going over—”

— “I was just going!” You stood a bit too fast and exclaimed a bit too loud. Guy didn’t seem to notice or mind. Iruka handed him his student list. You gripped your own in your hand, trying to work up the courage to inch towards the exit.

“Did you want to go over anything?” Iruka asked Guy, who shook his head. Guy held up a hand, lids closed in self-assurance.

“No worries, my friend, I don’t need to know anything about these new youngins to know that they’re goin’ to be fiery with the hot passion of their youth!” Iruka nodded along. Whatever that means. The both of you made eye contact as you took a few quiet steps towards the door. You mouthed a quick thanks before attempting to take your leave, but Might Guy was far too quick. “Oh!” He exclaimed, causing you to nearly jump. “You’re on your way out? We can talk about this team stuff! What’s your name again?”

Guy strode up to you, rambling more about something that you couldn’t register. You couldn’t look him in his face. Instead, you stood, mostly frozen, staring at the open collar of his jōnin vest. The vest had to be the only thing about his ensemble that changed since your academy days. That and his overall physique. Guy always said that he’d grow tall back when you were children and his prediction certainly came true. If only all wishful thinking could get you what you wanted. You could take in his scent from where you stood. It reminded you of something akin to a freshener sachet for utility bags: woodsy, dark, and clean.

You felt like you were about to pass out.

“I, uh, actually had more questions for Iruka,” you somehow managed to stifle out. You had no idea how you were still standing, let alone talking. Guy didn’t seem to notice your daze and in a moment of unrecallable memories, he disappeared.

The front of a chair knocked against the back of your knees and that’s all it took for you to plop down in the seat. Iruka stood to your side, hand on the top rail as he fanned you with his student file. He took in your flustered face in silence. He thought it best not to remark on your decade old crush or let on to the fact that everyone seemed to know except for Might Guy.

Itoshi no Hakana: "Musical Touken Ranbu" Cast Members who Attended "Itoshi no Hakana"

"Itoshi no Hakana" is the inaugural first production of Isamu Kayano's new theater unit "Akudo Kaigi". The actors of the production were personally chosen by Kayano-san, including Ryuji. Kayano-san also decided to come out of retirement as an actor and return to the stage after 20 years because he wanted to act with Ryuji.

Kayano-san has worked with Ryuji since the "Musical Touken Ranbu ~Trial Performance~" in 2015 (the first production in the "Musical Touken Ranbu" franchise) where Ryuji played Kashuu Kiyomitsu.

🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP

i am so excited to talk about this FSHLFSG so i always find multi-chaptered fics super intimidating and i have this thing planned out from start to finish and written about 20k words for it but im too scared to post it unless im at least halfway done bc i dont want to risk abandoning it 〒▽〒

i dont even know if anyone in this fandom knows about these books, its a beyblade x all for the game crossover, you dont need to know anything about aftg, its just the setting but then with the mfb characters and beyblade instead of exy. kyoya is neil (obviously, its me duh) and on the run from his dad and gets recruited for the metal state spirits, a pretty decent college beyblade team. it has its two star players gingka (kind of a mix of kevin/matt) and ryuga (andrew; yup this is ryukyo) who convince kyoya to accept the offer despite him knowing it will put him at risk.

so theyre all in college, and the spirits are gingka as the team captain, then ryuga, kenta, hikaru, benkei, yu and kyoya. ryo is the coach. hyoma the team's physician. hokuto is their psychiatrist lmao.

i dont want to reveal everything yet bc there is some mystery there especially if you dont know the books (and even if you do cos i did make a lot of changes to the original plot); but ill put a short scene at the bottom under the cut if that interests anyone

👻Is there a scene that you find intimidating that you have yet to write?

tbh anything that is very introspective is intimidating to me and i am in particular talking about the dark trio and the dark power right now because thats a thing i promised and desperately wanted to do for mayblade but i am struggling so hard with how exactly to go about this. i have a whole word document dedicated to how the dark power affected each one of the dark trio but the how and why of the conversation(s) they would have about that completely eludes me at the moment bc i need it to be at least kind of in character and it has so many references in canon which is exhausting and intimidating both. i am honestly just writing all the other prompts i still have for mayblade first and probably will be leaving this one for last or until i have a sudden flash of inspiration. you never know.

the worst thing about this is that i have several ideas for several short fics talking about the dark power and the dark trio or just tsubasa or just hikaru (kyoya just wasnt as affected lol) but obv still have the same problem for these. i am so fascinated by what you could do with these kids and their trauma i just wish i knew how to go about it haha ha... ughhh

okay heres the snippet for the aftg crossover:

Kyoya only realizes his mistake once it's already too late. He's too engrossed in teaching Gingka a lesson that he doesn't notice another person appear behind Gingka until they grab his T-shirt and violently yank him around. Kyoya’s back slams against the row of lockers next to the door to the locker room. Ryo angrily shouts, "Ryuga!" but gets no response.

Internally, Kyoya sighs in exasperation. Gingka Hagane and Ryuga Himoto. He is in a room with the two people he has vowed to keep as far away from as possible. In his mind he sends a quick prayer heavenward and apologizes to his mother for all the stupid decisions that have brought him into this situation.

Ryuga fixes him with an unreadable stare of golden eyes. His hands are still clutching Kyoya's shirt, but he looks composed, almost bored. Kyoya returns his gaze with hostility, but knows he wouldn't win a fight against Ryuga because he is taller and in a decidedly more advantageous position than Kyoya.

However, when nothing happens after a few moments, he realizes that this is just Ryuga's intimidation tactic and forcefully tears himself away, taking a few steps back from Ryuga.

He looks at Ryo, whose attention is on Ryuga, a disapproving twist at the corners of his mouth. "Is that your usual tactic for recruiting new bladers?" Ryo turns his attention back to Kyoya. "Because the tactic sucks."

Gingka laughs briefly and Ryo sighs, running a hand over his face, exhausted. "No," he says, rolling his eyes. "It's not our normal tactic. But we usually don't have such a hard time convincing new bladers to join us."

"That surprises me," Kyoya replies dryly which elicits a resigned smile from Ryo.

Ok. Starting from here I'll make many romantic shoujo fanfics for Hikaru x Akari. I totally forgot about the fanfic that I made at that time. So, I made this from the start. as much as possible. mediocre. In my spare time. Hopefully it will entertain HikaGo fans like me who like normal couples.

Umm, so why didn't I pick Nase as Hikaru's partner? Because it's going to go too far, I think. I can't imagine it. I can see Nase will end up with Isumi or Waya because they are more intimate when being insei. While Hikaru just say "hi" with her. Remember that karaoke idea from her? Hikaru even say "no", he's uninterested. And I think Iijima Ryo is the most suitable for her, don't you think?

Then I am invested so much in "childhood friends to be lovers" because I think love will blossom for long time if they're growing in a long time too. Yes, I prefer that way to tell the eternal love story.

Days after you had met Hikaru, all you two ever did was spend time with each other. She had introduced you to so many things in that short period of time, it had made her become one of your most favorite people you’ve ever met. And when you told her that, Hikaru was so red from blushing and didn’t even know what to say.

You were extremely oblivious to Hikaru’s very obvious crush on you, to say the least. You never really understood how she could be so comfortable around you yet get so coy and shy almost immediately after; at first you thought it was because you had did something wrong and Hikaru shut that down quickly, feeling terrible that she had even put you in the position to believe that you had did anything wrong to her.

Things changed though when you started seeing Hikaru less and less. You would ask her to hang out, but she would dodge you. It really hurt you, since she was the only one you felt closest to, and you kind of had no one as of right now, but you figured it was best to not have any distractions to fully focus on your career. God, you couldn’t get her out of your head though and it bothered you.

While you were having your own internal afflictions because of the lack of Hikaru, she was having her own as well. It beat Hikaru up knowing that you didn’t notice her advances and she blamed it on herself not being forward enough. Riho and Ryo told her she was being silly and to not blame herself, she just needed to talk you directly and tell you how she actually felt instead of dancing around the topic.

Hikaru sighed and laid her hand in one of her hands, stress taking over and she could feel her body tighten from it. “Maybe you guys are right, I love to be around them, but then I get so shy.” Riho and Ryo engulfed her in a hug, the group hug made Hikaru feel a lot better and the positivity mantras that they had said gave her the confidence she needed to go for what she wanted, which was you.

“I am strong, I am confident, I am me,” Hikaru whispered to herself over and over again as she walked over to your hotel room door. She lifted a hand to knock on the door, but much to her surprise the door had swung open and she came face to face with you. Hikaru slowly lifted her hand down and smiled slightly, the shy feeling now becoming embarrassment.

“Hi stranger!” You smiled, “I was actually about to go somewhere, but since you’re here now I want to stay.”

Hikaru’s cheeks reddened, your words made her feel like someone was doing backflips in her belly and her heart pounded just from looking at you. To say she had it bad for you was an understatement. “I’m sorry we haven’t hung out... but I wanted to talk, if that’s okay?” There she goes again, the shyness was her biggest detriment, but little did she know that was your favorite thing about her.

You nodded and stepped aside, give Hikaru room to walk in which she did. You shut the door behind her and followed her over to your bed, sitting down and patted the seat next to you. Hikaru smiled and sat down, fumbling around with her fingers that were currently interlocked together because of her nervousness. “What did you want to talk about?” Your oblivious smile was all she could pay attention to. How your lips curved up, the way your teeth managed to look so perfect every time she looked at them, and it was as if she couldn’t find a single flaw.

“I am strong, I am confident, I am me.” The saying had replayed in Hikaru’s mind a trillion times while she tried to come up with the right words. She swore she almost malfunctioned when your hand laid over hers, in support.

“Y/N, I like you. I have liked you ever since I saw you. It’s crazy, but it’s true. You.. you are so sweet to me and you make it so easy to have fun. I like everything about you.” Hikaru’s lips worked faster than her brain, she hadn’t even had time to think of what she wanted to say, but it may have worked out in her favor this way when she had saw you blush.

“That’s so sweet, Hikaru. I actually thought you didn’t like me that way all this time, which sucked when you stopped seeing me for a bit. It was hard trying to move on, since I had such a big crush on you too.” You admitted, and boy you felt like an idiot for not picking up on the signs sooner. Your time apart from Hikaru could’ve been avoided if you had said something, but at least the two of you knew now.

“Can I kiss you?” Hikaru asked with a sudden surge of confidence, her cheeks were still reddened from earlier and she knew that the blush wasn’t going away any time soon. You nodded in response, suddenly becoming shy yourself.

The two of you both leaned in, eyes shut, as your lips pressed against each other’s. You always thought people lied when they mentioned the fireworks and electricity they felt when they kissed someone they really liked, but now you knew it was real. You felt goosebumps raise on your skin, along with your arm hairs that stood up.

When Hikaru pulled away, her hands slid up to the sides of your cheeks and they laid there as she leaned her forward against yours. The two of you giggled after looking into each others eyes for so long and almost immediately, your shyness flew away as you settled into her touch.

You ended up never leaving your hotel room and stayed with Hikaru, watching movies and ordering in while you two cuddled. “I’m so happy that I’m here with you right now... and to finally call you mine.” Hikaru sighed in content, cuddling into your body more. You turned to the side and kissed her on the forehead, a slight smile turning the corners of your lips up.

“I’m happy too, Hikaru, I really am.”

Cliché (shy!Reader x Might Guy, BONUS CHAPTER)

Y’all asked for it and I gotchu. If you haven’t already read the Cliché Finale, this fic won’t make sense and give away the twist at the end sooooo... You can find the Finale on the master list pinned at the top of my blog.

“I do not think that this is a good idea.” Lee held a small bottle in his hands, gazing upon it in acute horror. The three junior ninja had gathered in a secluded part of the forest. Tenten’s scrolls were already in her hands. Neji’s Byakugan showed in wrinkles around his eyes.

“C’mon, Lee.” She put a hand around Lee’s. He felt the rolled paper against the back of his hand. Tenten inched the bottle closer to his face. He turned to his teammate.

“Underage ninja should not partake in the drinking of sake!” Lee protested.

“Where did you even get that, Tenten?” Neji implored, standing above the two with his arms crossed.

“Doesn’t matter!” Tenten snapped. She turned back to Lee, “You want to help Guy-Sensei don’t you? We have to make it look believable. ” Lee gazed at the bottle tentatively. Tenten looked between the two boys with determination. “You just have to drink a little bit. You’re in good hands, Lee. Just think of it like a training exercise!” Neji sighed.

“You two are ridiculous.” he scoffed, looking away from this poor decision. “There has to be a better way to do this.”

“And yet you’re still on board.” Tenten snapped back. The pair narrowed their eyes at each other, engaging in a silent stare off until a sudden outburst by Lee.

“I will do it!” he declared, reinvigorated by the thought of Guy-sensei. Tipping his head back, the liquid slowly began to drain from the small container. The bottle popped from his lips.

Tenten hopped up from her crouched position and unraveled her first scroll.

“Get ready, Tenten.” Neji locked eyes with her, both nodding in silent understanding. Lee whooped, cheeks becoming red.

About an hour later, the team showed up at your door. Tenten knocked on your door. A thump came from the otherside before you appeared. A blanket was still wrapped around your shoulders as you answered, blinking yourself awake.

“(Y/N)-sensei!” Tenten cried, “It’s Guy-sensei! We ran as fast as we could! Please, you have to help us!” You quickly escorted the children inside.

“I’m going to help Guy-sensei! Stay here!”

You bolted out the door. Jumping off of your porch, you disappeared into the night.

“You think you laid it on a bit thick there, Tenten?” She hummed at Neji’s comment, closing the door to your apartment.

“They need a push, we gave them a push.” She shrugged, heading to the little kitchen connected to the living area across from the entrance.

“The coalition for reason just shrunk by one.” Neji groaned, leaning over the back of the couch. Lee had happily passed out on the other arm.

“You can’t put on that aloof act with us, Neji, we know you too well,” Tenten filled your teapot, putting it on the stove. “Sometimes, it’s worth it to bend the rules when it comes to helping others. You love Guy-sensei no matter what you think of his teaching methods. You want him to be happy. Why else would you tag along with this absurd plan? ” Neji’s shoulders fell. He let out a breath. She was right. She was always right.

“It better work.” Neji muttered.

“It will. Now, ” Tenten peered into your fridge. “I don’t think (Y/N)-sensei will mind if some of her eggs are gone after all we’ve been through. Lee should probably get something in his stomach. You want some right?” Neji paused before giving a small, quick nod.

You crossed your arms, brows knitted together and stern pout on your lips.

“So, while we know you were trying to help, you can’t go around pulling stunts like that!” All six of yours and Guy’s students sat in front of you pouting. Your voice cracked. You were still shaken from the previous night. “You scared your sensei half to death. Please talk to us next time before staging a fake threat to the village.” You made direct contact with Ryo, who nervously avoided your gaze.

“And that’s why everyone is going to do 500 laps as punishment!” Guy announced energetically. You looked at him with wide eyes.

“We didn’t agree on that!” you stuttered. You leaned in with your voice low, “I thought we were just going to let them off with a warning?”

“Ah, yes, um… Optional 500 laps!” Lee cheered with bright eyes.

“Okay,” you breathed, “I think that’s it for me. Let’s get going everyone.” The kids sat there, staring up at you. You looked to Guy in confusion, behind you, then back at the children.

“What?” Guy questioned. “You heard the lady, let’s go!”

“Wait, what are you saying?” Hikaru asked slowly.

“Am I speaking the right language?” You wondered. Guy nodded towards you in reassurance.

“Are you saying we’re training together again?” Lee gasped. You and Guy turned to each other simultaneously. He gave you a small smile as your cheeks flushed slightly. The pair of you lingered in each other’s eyes. Tenten paused.

“Wait,” she started, “Are you two-”

“Okay, everyone!” Guy exclaimed, focusing back on the group. “Let’s go, training, now!” The children giggled amongst themselves, quietly celebrating their success as you all headed to the training ground.

I swear I give Tenten the best lines. I like writing for her. Expect Cabaret ~next week~
