I wanna talk about this panel:
(TW for Discussion of abusive situations and SA, please take care and keep on scrolling if it will negatively effect your day or bring you someplace you don’t want to be.)
Something always struck me as off and I didn’t really know why until I really thought about it; the expression, the horror and almost…disgust? Realization? Despair? There’s a lot going on here, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on why it bothered me so much.
I was having a completely unrelated conversation about BDSM related topics, and I suddenly got it:
Why I think here, specifically at this moment, not the conversation that happens after, is where he realizes just how just, horrible he’s been. And not quite because Wookyung saw what was happened with his “friends”, he had to see it. Quite literally I think he mad to see it from a third person perspective.
I think being a participant allowed him to have some distance, in his mind, from his actions. He could justify them with excuses, “this guy’s just trash”, or “he needs me and through that need can enjoy this.”
But he can’t ignore the reality of the situation when he becomes the third perspective; not the perpetrator or the victim, but as the witness. I think that’s when he finally, and only then, can he actually see (quite literally) what he’s doing and what has happened, and the effect it’s had on Minho. And he can’t romanticize his anguish anymore.
I really do think he meant to take it out on him before he went into the room too, the expression from the panel before looks somewhat similar to some of his traditionally drawn mannerisms are like:
Tumblr media
It’s almost like he needs a minute to process what he’s seeing. Then for the next few panels we almost see through his eyes the situation unfolding, following him as he sees them and then, sees Minho (I’d show the panels but that might be a no-no for Tumblr). And then, it hits him, hence we get:
Tumblr media
It’s just a small thought I had, but makes looking it over again just a bit more devastating when you really think about how little was regarded for Minho in the situation.
I’m curious to hear some other thoughts on it though, it’s a loaded expression, and can be taken in so many different directions.
I definitely hate it though, that’s for certain. 😒🖕
I also think that’s why we don’t get anymore scenes of the…former flavor afterwards, probably because he can’t bring himself to do it again shortly afterwards (I don’t doubt that it would return to something like it again at some point though).

Sadistic Beauty BL Side Story - By Lee Geumsan (7/10)
Tumblr media
Hi. Quick disclaimer. This side story is from the same author that wrote Sadistic Beauty. If you don't know yet I'm sorry but Lee Geumsan is a creep. The author is human trash. Get on a pirate ship if you want to read this. Do not support this author in any way, and don't look at their twitter unless you want to throw up.
This story takes place after the disastrous ending of Sadistic Beauty, which was universally hated by anti-fans that stuck around to watch the trashfire. The protagonist of Sadistic Beauty had multiple male partners, and she abandoned (and abused) serveral of them. We are supposed to hate Minho, even though he is a victim of extreme sexual and emotional abuse. He is a masochist, but his sadistic ex girlfriend didn't care about boundaries. If you hit a masochist in the head with a bat without permission that isn't going to be hot for them. That's not how it works. If you don't have a safeword your partner is going to be nervous, not aroused. Minho had to deal with a lot of gross neglect when he was one of her many concubines.
Tumblr media
Minho needs money. His relationship with the old protagonist, Duna, destroyed his self esteem. He was a professor, but he fell apart. He stole from his friends. He used his father's savings to try to get his life back. His writing career tanked. Gosh. Being abused for years sure does take alot out of a person. We're supposed to hate Minho because he is a thief, but unlike the author we're normal people with empathy. Minho was born poor. He didn't understand his own sexuality. He was overworked AND his on again off again girlfriend would literally leave him alone when he started crying after sex. Extremely violent sex that involved blood.
Tumblr media
Minho has no options. Like most victims of abuse he lashed out. He pushed his friends and family away. His friends in particular can't forgive him because he did try to steal money, and even novel manuscripts, from them. He was desperate, but I do get why he's alone. It's hard to be stable and normal when you're being abused, but he did hurt everyone who really loved him.
(his ex is in a happyish relationship with a completely devoted male slave by the way, because life isn't fair. His abuser never gets punished. Only he gets punished. The author admitted that they like to make Minho suffer on twitter.)
Tumblr media
This is Minho's new abuser. Minho is not attracted to him. His name is Wookyung, and he did have potential before the author ruined him on purpose. This particular author has a fetish for abuse. Wookyung immediately beats Minho after he offers his body in exchange for money. He also breaks Minho's leg. He's a rich sadist...no. He's not. This is not BDSM. This author has no idea how to write BDSM and they do not care. Wookyung uses his money to string Minho along.
Tumblr media
He fell in love with Minho when he saw him cry. He admired Minho before, but he's an asshole. He wants to lock Minho up and use his body whenever he wants in exchange for cash. Minho regrets asking Wookyung for help immediately. He wakes up with a broken ankle, and Wookyung refuses to take him to the hospital. Wookyung also threatens to cut his foot off.
Tumblr media
I would be excited if somebody else was writing this. It's extreme. The expressions are good. Minho isn't boring. He's an extremely flawed man with depression and baggage. Wookyung may be rich, but he's not good enough for Minho. Minho is still trying to get a job. He doesn't want to be a pet. His terrible new relationship with Wookyung motives him, and he tries to earn his independence again. Wookyung tries to stop him at every turn.
Tumblr media
My boy Minho does not lie down and take shit. He accepts the money in the beginning, but then he wants to die. The money isn't worth it. Again. Let me clarify. Minho was attracted to his evil ex. He isn't attracted to Wookyung, so he isn't blinded by any kind of love. He says he'll pay Wookyung back, even if it takes a lifetime, but Wookyung doesn't let go. Minho tries to flee and he almost murders his new abuser, who is somehow worse than the last one, with a hammer.
Damn.
That would have been a good ending.
Tumblr media
Wookyung punishes him for being disobedient. Wookyung punishes him when he's not excited. Wookyung punishes him when he gets aroused. This author is physically incapable of writing an erotic scene that doesn't involve vomit, blood, or screaming.
Tumblr media
On top of everything else Wookyung is manipulative. He plans to marry a woman and keep Minho in a secret apartment under watch. He rarely lets Minho outside. He's the bastard son of a very rich man, and his shitty elitist divorced mom controls his life. Wookyung is kind of pathetic. That would be interesting if I didn't know that the author will mess up the ending. It's going to happen. Guaranteed. Wookyung plays nice for a few chapters, and then this happens.
Tumblr media
He hits Minho with a bottle FOR NO REASON. He gets angry about a COMPLETE MISUNDERSTANDING, and brutally beats Minho unconscious. He STILL doesn't take Minho to the hospital. He calls his personal doctor, and the doctor says the strike TORE HIS SCALP OPEN. Again, this was for NO REASON. Wookyung was mad because his mean mom is a meanie. He assumed that Minho ran away while he was gone, BUT HE DIDN'T. Minho is trying. My god, Minho is trying to give this abusive loser what he wants, but nothing works. Nothing can calm down this man child except sex.
The art is great. There are glimmering moments of potential, but they all get ruined by the authors fetishes. Sadistic Beauty was very popular in the beginning, but it plummeted when the author made their protagonist a complete sociopath. Sadly, they will probably keep publishing because they are a talented artist. Yandere stories don't have to be fluffy, but I hate seeing so much wasted potential.

for how long will author milk this its getting tiring from ch1 to ch35 its one pattern minho does sum shit gets hurt for it and the cycle repeats wk is the only one to get slight hint of positive character development (he's still so far off) and minho just exist like fr author doesn't show any forms of minho's trauma from wk's or doona's rape like the kind of trauma and inner dialogues u would expect from sa and rape victoms btw this so disgustingly common (the denial of rape victims trauma) with these types of bls and authors only excuse is "oh well uke's got strong mentality and such"
huh,

Fuck Sadistic Beauty and the rapist FL and the author.
Byun Minho belongs to me now. I’m taking possession of him.
And I say he went to America, got therapy, found a new group of friends and became a best selling author. Glacier in March was made into a movie and was a box office hit.
Eat shit Duna.

I still can't figure out if the author of sadistic beauty hates or loves loves Min ho. It did feel like she wrote his character out of hate in the mainstory and the first few chapters of the bl side story, but after that she gave him a lot of redemption and characterization. His character is well fleshed out. Is it a facade or reverse psychology maybe.Even the ending turned out a little tamer than I thought(it could have been worse, and there is always possibility for Min ho to leave wukyung in future)
I know right? It surprised me too. Minho has the best character arc amongst the others and more depth.
He's way more relatable too. He was a jerk who grew up in an abusive household and became independent from a very early age. He openly criticized people and was insecure about himself too. Later, he owned up to his own mistake instead of blaming others. He didn't even harbor any bad feelings towards duna for r*ping him (which I guess he didn't consider it r*pe or probably thought he deserved it).
Even gave words of sympathy towards Wookyung who put him through unimaginable torture, both physical and mental.
Meanwhile Duna didn't have any character growth, she remained selfish and superficial. Wookyung remained selfish too as he refused to let Minho go. Haesol remained a doormat instead of growing a spine.
Idk if it was intentional or not but the author put more effort in Minho than Duna.
Though the ending is still rushed and unfinished, Minho overall has the best character arc in SB.

Regarding sadistic beauty bl side story... Why is it so toxic? 🤔 I somewhat can understand 90/mid-2000 even like bl stories ten years ago that skip over repercussions of rape and glorify toxic, abusive relationships... But this author was aware of these, hell since she has twitter she was definitely made aware through feedback... It's 2022 and yet again and again I see this trope in the story, where main character despite awareness of abuse they go through still ends up with abuser and it's presented either as somewhat happy ending or, like in Minho case, as inevitable, which might be worse... Like, why is it so normalised in bl stories? Authors main Sadistic Beauty ending presented similarly, but it's through abuser pov (Duna), not abused (they are in bdsm relationship, but honestly Duna more than once goes over boundaries)... and that ending wasn't depressing and in a light "at least I'm not lonely" :/ Not to mention since when WK became Minho's fifth most important person? He shouldn't even be in top 1000 after what he did... Sick story. I blame patriarchy x) But seriously... wtf
so... i agree BL has some romanticized, or at the very least normalized dish of abuse that wouldn't extend to other stories.
My personal opinion on all this? I think the writer can't be made to willingly write m/m stories. That is no way mean to shame her; it is well and valid for an author to only want to write stories centered around women, which translates to f/m and f/f ships only. Sadistic Beauty (the main comic) did this, and it worked great for the plot, that is not just separate smut scenes that were hot (SB BL had this too!), but a sense of where the story is going as though some overall plan has been laid out. Unfortunately, BL sells way more than f/f or f/m (and boy do we need good f/m with some decent female leads and away from the male gaze), and the Sadistic Beauty spinoff was in my opinion because of two possibilities: 1) the writer tried to milk the bl popularity (unlikely) and 2) the writer really wanted to close up the plot-threads for the remaining characters of the Duna-harem, but she overestimated how much her heart was into writing m/m, realized it half-way in, and defaulted to generic bl tropes for each chapter. That is to say, the plot of SB BL became a piece of paper pulled out of a hat as to what generic abuse WK will pull on Minho this chapter. Don't get me wrong, I think the spinoff had some moments or insights (I really loved how the visuals portraying Minho's depression and suicidal tension, and I think the writer does have hot sex scenes, which by themselves can be quite good--Minho taking the lead and WK being assigned to bottom for once, right before Minho decided to attempt suicide.), but overall those are few and far in between, and the overall plot was left hanging: won't WK have no money now that mom cut him off? will the cues about Minho loving writing over Duna lead nowhere, that is won't we see any hint of Minho going back to writing and having self-realization that extends beyond being with WK? will WK learn shit from this story (no he wont', he got Minho in the end after throwing a fit, and he didn't have to change a thing. Because he also wanted to get rid of his mom, and he cut ties, so Minho was only cinder in a fire that already existed to push him to do so)? I was reading some other "unhealthy" BLs as I was reading this spinoff and the spinoff gave me flashback to many of the same scenes even I had seen in those mangas: chain to bed, kill him if he leaves, uke somewhat never makes the smart decision of getting out when he can... etc etc...
So in short, my take with the spinoff is not how healthy or unhealthy it was, but lack of direction, where the twists or scenes felt copy-cat but done with better art or sensibility, but nothing that kept me wanting to re-read like the main Sadistic Beauty. I think maybe the writer eventually realized where her passion lies, so who knows, she may not write any m/m in the future because she always want a woman in the mix. In a way, I respect that, and that also provides an answer to everyone that complained by SB had all men available to Duna and no proper m/m relationships, as in strictly gay: it is because the manga was meant for women, and it pandered to women (boo hoo, deal with it, pandering to women for once), so similarly to how in anything pandering to men all women are straight or bi, but never lesbian because the man needs to insert himself, all men were bi or straight in SB, and all women were bi or lesbian, so Duna, and in that way, the female reader, could insert herself in any situation. I don't think the writer is under any obligation to give us strictly male gay couples; don't like, don't read. I did wish the BL spinoff tied more ends though, not so much that I care about m/m, but because WK was my favorite male character from the original, and I highkey wanted him to be tamed by Duna and end up as her sub. I had high hopes and he kinda disappointed me in the spinoff, proving he can't be a proper dom, and all he does is out of spite for not being able to outdominate his mother.
Eventually, you need passion to break the mold, of toxic BL in this case, and the passion for m/m just wasn't there for this writer, it seems.

Have you ever read Lima syndrome? Heewon is scary.Spoiler: In the ending, the male yandere win.
Tumblr media
Oh man, this one was a trip. It kinda of reminds me of the things that @ystrike1 used to recommend, haha. Sort of similar to Hocus Pocus, Sadistic Beauty Sidestory B(L), but more meticulous. This is an omegaverse story so sex and other dark topic similar are present. It’s only seven chapters, so it’s a pretty quick read.
The story starts with Mooyoung getting rejected for a job offer because he’s an omega. Ever since he was in high school and found out as an omega, he gets bullied, and the only one who really helped him was his roommate Heewon. Heewon and him eat together and after he gets drunk, Mooyoung has sex with him. Heewon wakes up the next day to work at a cafe and gets drunk again, causing Mooyoung to have sex with him once more. Mooyoung gets attacked the next day by a bunch of mooks and almost raped before Heewon comes to save him and Mooyoung gets marked by him after. The next day, he gets another email from a classmate called Jin Yerman, and goes to meet her. Heewon has been tracking him and keeps an eye on Mooyoung while he goes to visit her. There, she reveals that Heewon has actually been the cause of a lot of his problems of bullying, remarking that it was strange that he was always there to protect him when he was bullied or that someone of his caliber was always hanging out with him. The final nail the coffin was the fact that Mooyoung is not an Alpha, as confirmed by someone who tried hiring him from a different company. Upon going home, Heewon attempts to explain himself, only to come to a very angry Mooyoung. Heewon ends up kidnapping Mooyoung in a secret penthouse (because he's rich) getting him to live there for the rest of his life. We get a backstory on how Heewon fell in love with Mooyoung in the first place. Heewon always found it too easy for people to fall in love with him, so when he fell in love with Mooyoung, he saw it as a challenge. He does his best to be by Mooyong's side: wearing an earing of his favorite color, helping him study and just generally always being next to him. He feels anxious that Mooyoung is going to leave him until he sees him crying after his parent's accident and decides to invite him to live at his house. To keep him by his side, Heewon spreads rumors about him to give him a bad reputation, as well as get his mother to forge his alpha/omega test so that Mooyoung thinks that he's an omega. His mother actually did something similar with his father and is happy to do it, as she's pleased that he's gained her genes. He then sets it up so that Mooyoung can't be hired anywhere decent and has him soley focus on him. The last parts end with Heewon cutting Mooyoung's achilles heel so that he can no longer move properly and is forced by his side.
So yeah, this is definitely one of the darker bls, but I think it's executed pretty well. There are a lot of hints at the beginning that makes it seem like Mooyoung is unlucky when in reality it's just Heewon's meddling. He is definitely a manipulative and possessive yandere and it seems to be something that runs in the family, which I honestly don't see that often in yandere stories. I think what's pretty cool is that it doesn't really go the omega route (since both characters are alphas) and Heewon has to go the extra mile to get Mooyoung to rely on him since if this was a regular omegaverse story, it would be easy to simply mark him without much repercussion. It's pretty interesting to see how he was able to twist his entire world around for Mooyoung and just how much his influence on his life shaped him. It's unfortunate for Mooyoung, of course, but it's a pretty good dark read.
Anyways, a good one to read. Not too long and it's an interesting concept on something that has been done a couple times before.

i saw on twitter you've been reading a lot of bl lately, do you have any recs? :)
Tbh not really? Aside from the Sadistic Beauty side BL story, most of what I read is extremely pulpy and I have a really bad memory for it.
If you go into my Goodreads account and check the Manga tag, you'll find a bunch of what I've read and what I've rated it! It's probably the fastest way to find the recs :D
(Hint: You can sort Goodreads tabs in a person's account by review! All the 5 star stuff is stuff I'd recommend. I'm mostly reading a lot of 2-3 star stuff right now because it's mindless).

Hi dear! I've seen you didn't talk much about Sadistic Beauty these days... What are your thoughts on ending and two side stories? Especially Wookying and Minho's one? Tbh I'm disappointed and disturbed :(
i had to step out of this story bc it was leaving me frustrated, irritated and disappointed not to mention very confused LOL. yep, im still fairly disappointed with where the author went with this. a major conflict that should or could have been in the main story was the whole drama including wookyung fighting with doona to get minho but it was swept under the rug only to return as some after thought as a side story (probably excluding doona).  there was such a great opportunity to finish it in the main story but the author decided that minho had to suffer all of the consequences and everyone else is going scot-free LOL. truly a shame. i wasnt surprised that doona was ending up with haesol, never was into them, still not into them. i have a certain distaste for characters like haesol, he’d be best described as a simp. and i absolutely loathe simps lol. there’s a fine line with being there for someone and being there in hopes that smth more might change, he def wants to date doona and saying that he’s okay with how things are and if they don’t date, is basically a blatant lie to himself. if that was the case, he wouldn’t let her string him along and use him for sex. the feelings he has for her will just be kept in the back, but it will most likely resurface in some way or another. in the long run, it’d hurt him and that’s just not worth the hassle. obv since the writer wanted them to happen, he’s prob gonna get what he wants lol. i def found the whole rivalry btw donna and wookyung in order to get to minho way more fascinating, and wished it was explored more. now, the only thing im happy with is gyerin is probably getting her happy ending with the new girl. she’s also the only one who went “fuck this” once she saw doona wasn’t going to reciprocate her feelings, and im rlly glad she did that. at first, i didnt think much of her, but now, seeing how the story went (lmao), im all for gyerin being happy. and as for wookyung and minho, im interested in how their story will unfold. but i feel so so bad for minho, he was a jerk and an asshole i wont deny that, but he didnt deserve all of the hate and harm he got and still is receiving according to the side story preview. wookyung is still a great and fascinating character, i do like characters like him, but how he was used was just not satisfying. and it seems like there might be a case of stockholm syndrome coming up where he might fall for wookyung. i just wish doona had smth to do with it before she parted ways or she could have helped minho, but yeah. *shrugs* this story left me confused as to what the author is doing, there is wasted potential and opportunities at every corner. the plot goes one way then goes another to end on a weird note. i also think the whole gl, bl stuff was more of a fanservice thing and that’s probably why it’s more of a disjointed story? as in, i feel like the gl and bl stuff should either have been more of a focus and woven into the story or it should have been entirely separate so the author wouldn’t have to shove many things at once and just focus on one or two pairing. one thing i might add for the story is that it felt as if it was trying to make us surprised, but the so called “twists” that happened just made it more confusing and those probably shouldn’t have been there as they don’t add much to the story narrative. back to gyerin, you can see that gyerin and the new girl can have their own separate story from the start (she didn’t have much to do with the primary conflict and could easily have a flashback to doona instead of the whole fanservice lol). the same goes for wookyung and minho as well, and it’d have been perfectly fine. at the end you basically see three pairings, the m/f, the f/f and the m/m. however, we dont even know if minho is into men? so i’m not sure how’s that gonna be considered BL? then again, every pairing could have been in the main story, but it’s not? for some reason??? it feels as if the author wanted their pairings without putting in the effort of making it into the main story, hence the side stories or they just wanted to make it separated without putting too many characters in it. obviously, for wookyung and minho, there’s no way doona wouldn’t have done smth if it was fully explored in the main story, and it might have changed the ending too. there’s multiple ways the story could have gone, but this one was the only conflict that was much more interesting imo, but it wasnt used that much.
gyerin didn’t really have much to do there other than be lesbian fanservice for doona (and the audience, writer and maybe the artist too?), and to be some kind of support for haesol. that’s about it, so i can understand why she’d not have a full blown romance in the main story, but seeing that she keeps reappearing, she still could have her side story integrated into it. lmao i don’t even kno if doona is bi/pan lol or if she just had sex bc she was drunk then did it just for pleasure without being interested in women at all.
EDIT: iirc doona did get aroused seeing gyerin uh doing stuff, so it could be possible that she is interested in women, but maybe only sexually? although i still could be wrong lol and it could just have been a moment of “I’m straight, but horny and u’ll do for now”. she could be in the closet too, who knows.
overall, sadistic beauty had some interesting conflict, some good characters (ill never like haesol lol), good art and the storytelling by this artist is well paced, but the execution and where the story went leaves a sour taste in my mouth. would i recommend this story? absolutely not. it is so frustrating, and for what? i wish i had saved myself this headache from the very start but the art and the fact that doona was a dom was what reeled me in. i only came back to it to see if the writer redeemed their story in some ways, but... well... you saw how that went.  i would follow the artist if i could, their art is beautiful. however, i cannot say the same for the writer. from my exp, it seems that many webtoons have good art, but the writing definitely leaves way more room for improvement. that said, i do hope ppl will learn that in order to make a great comic/webtoon/manga and so on, it is not only about pretty drawings. the story and writing should be up to par with the art. if not, it should be at least close to it. because the art might attract people, but if the story doesn’t resonate, if it doesn’t make much sense, then ppl are bound to leave and drop it. and what is a story, but pretty pictures and nothing substantial in it? nothing, but superficial beauty.

Wanted to share this comment about how Twilight and her wife was written in Stockholm from someone how actually read the fic:
“When she says that Ascentia endured everything with the hope that Twilight'll get better, I don't know if she's rewriting the story after the fact like how Alaina was "obviously preparing to die" before she met Rey or she thinks that was something she left "implied" somewhere, but either way it's not true.
The only motivation that Ascentia is given towards why she keeps defending her rapist is that "marriage is so important to her" and "when Twilight calls me kitten that means she's sorry", both utterly stupid. When Twilight on her own decides to get therapy, Ascentia is adamntly against it. She can't stop complaining about how the doctor is hurting her wife and it's not doing anything for her. Any attempts from people to help she refuses or fight it off, because "marriage is important", which I personally find worst that just saying Ascentia is enduring through the "power of love" because it implies that survivors who leave their abusive spouses didn't take their marriage seriously enough and were somehow at fault. There are points in the story where other characters seem unsure over if they admire Ascentia or think she's crazy. If you really wanted to make it clear that Ascentia's not someone to imitate, then those dialogue portion should have never existed in the first place. There's nothing on the text that even suggest that Ascentia even wants Twilight to get better through other means that raping her.
The bit about how "Ascentia doesn't face consequences" is funny because the only thing Liliana has to counter that is that sometimes people talk. That's it. She has assaulted people, killed a woman on broad daylight, survived bullets and hearts transplants, survived everything that happened to her to the point that on any realistic story should have killed her three times... but she's not overpowered or too plot protected, don't worry, because someone said something she didn't liked one time. It's the exact same way she treats Alaina, where she can do and say anything she wants but if anyone says a thing you're supposed to feel bad for her... even if the thing someone said was a logical response to what Ascentia/Alaina did.”
You know, baste off of what Cypher revealed about Lily's WOW fic, I wouldn't be surprised if Ascentia was, at least in Stockholm, one of Lily's self inserts.
We know that Lily enjoys rape fantasies, and being demeaned, so maybe that character was just a vector for those fetishes, along with her other desires.
Maybe that's why the excuse is so weak. It's not about marriage, it's about being able to enjoy the fantasy, without having to admit it in text.
It kind of reminds me of Sadistic Beauty, and the BL side story, where the author is completely oblivious to how messed up the story is to the average viewer, and tries to justify the horrible things that happen in it, not understanding where the complaints are coming from.
