I want to write a Vanyel/Stefen modern-with-magic AU soooo bad but I don’t know Valdemar lore like at all. There are six books standing between me and feeling comfortable enough in the lore to imagine what Valdemar might look like with the internet and planes

#anyway I have unhinged ideas about what modern Valdemar #like. I’m imagining Valdemar as a prosperous #happy country with a high level of social development and technology #public transit everywhere. universal basic income/free high quality healthcare/etc #like. not utopian. not by a long shot. #but overall doing well (at least in comparison to some of the other countries on Velgarth) #HOWEVER they are having this really divisive cultural moment about Heralds and the King #bc they’re basically appointed by a completely unaccountable higher power? and they have so much direct influence and control over #the life of an average person??? why should that be allowed? #so there’s a movement for direct democracy which is very successful at a local level #and is slowly making its way into higher levels of the government #and there’s suddenly intense scrutiny on the heralds. so when Vanyel gets caught up in a series of scandals it does a LOT of damage to #the institution of the heralds. but Vanyel is very very important to the security of the world #bc he successfully prevented the detonation of a nuclear weapon a few years earlier so he’s sort of the only thing standing between #the world and nuclear war #anyway I think that setting is way too dramatic for a weird gay fanfiction. so I’m workshopping it #vanyel ashkevron #last herald mage #gay herald in a squirrel suit

Ya know, from the perspective of the average Asticassia student, there’s probably more than a few at this point who are convinced that Suletta is a genuine space witch whose goal is to takeover the Benerit group.

Consider this POV: This transfer student from Mercury, that you’ve never heard of before (but whom you later learn is the heiress of Shin Sei Development, the lowest ranked company in the Benerit Group), on her very first day, thwarts the latest escape attempt of Miorine Rembran (daughter of President Delling, who’s the leader of the Benerit Group), but then offers to make it up to her, challenges Miorine’s then-fiance Guel Jeturk (heir of Jeturk Heavy Machinery, one of the top 3 companies in the Benerit Group) to a duel and one-shots him like a chump (despite him being the school’s ace pilot), gets engaged to Miorine, and then gets arrested 5 minutes later for cheating.

The next thing you hear, the Mercury girl and Guel are having a rematch, and maybe also a secret dalliance given what some girls are saying and that Guel, after losing *again*, proposes to her, but she rejects him and seems to be courting Elan Ceres (heir of Peil Technologies, one of the other top 3 companies in the Benerit Group) instead, only for Elan and Guel to fight over the Mercury girl in a duel, which ends with Guel’s disgrace and eventual disappearance, and Elan fighting another duel with the Mercury girl and then disappearing himself (but Elan has done that before and come back, so not as big a deal as Guel).

Also, sometime during this affair with Guel and Elan, the Mercury girl got bullied by Spacians, and for some reason, one of the Earthian girls took the Mercury girl’s side (despite the acrimony between Spacians and Earthians) and viciously attacked the bullies, and after that the Mercury girl joined Earth House, even though she’s a Spacian herself.

And despite the aforementioned affair with Guel and Elan, Mercury girl and Miorine have been spending a lot of time together, even being seen together in Miorine’s greenhouse, a place which no one, not even her childhood friend (and heir of the last of the top 3 companies, Grassley Defense Systems), Shaddiq Zenelli, has been previously allowed, save for Miorine herself. And then Miorine accompanies Mercury girl to a business party, and the next thing you know, the former has gone from a shut-in and gardener to the founder and CEO of a start-up dedicated to developing more of the technology Mercury girl has been using to win fights, technology that years ago Miorine’s own father, President Delling, denounced as illegal and unethical, but which he’s now sanctioning his daughter and her fiance to research and use, and on top of that, Miorine’s also recuited the entirety of Earth House as her employees, despite their aversion to Spacians. 

And when Shaddiq and his girlboss squad try to stop this development with a duel, Mercury girl takes out all 5 of his squad, despite themselves being some of the best pilots in school aside from the top 3 heirs, and Shaddiq himself gets headshot by the violent Earthian who previously fought for Mercury girl.

And now GUND-ARM, Inc. is established, they’ve recruited Elan despite the earlier conflict with him, they’ve bought their own spaceship, and apparently they’re going on business trips and directly associating with actual higher ups in the Benerit Group, and all because of this Mercury girl, who’s apparently determined to, and capable of, fighting and/or charming anyone who crosses her path, and all that despite the fact that the couple times you met her, she acted like a golden retriever with social anxiety.

Gamera was a massive competitor of Godzilla back in the 70’s, apparently they realized kids loved blood and violence and had fights significantly more gruesome than what you would see in Godzilla

And during the 90’s the Gamera trilogy ended up blowing most of the heisei era Godzilla movies out of the water

Gamera’s first movie was a rather blatant attempt at cashing in on Godzilla’s success but it soon found its own identity by leaning into the idea of Gamera as a friend to all children and getting delightfully weird with it

The 90’s Gamera movies were made partially because well Showa Gamera was just made to entertain kids yeah? Not particularly big on themes meaning they could do a lot of interesting things with it.

Godzilla vs Gamera has been a pipe dream of a lot of kaiju fans
