Horrible MIL memory, cw: menstruation

In a group text, we got on the subject of menopause, when does that happen, etc. I said my mom had it happen super early, like maybe early 40s? Can that be right? Don’t speak to her so can’t ask her, just know it was early. And then I remembered MIL complaining during a visit about how she was mid-fifties and period was still going strong. She had it and was complaining a lot, kept unbuttoning her pants due to bloating, etc. And we were hosting her at my stepdad’s house, because he was out of town and we lived in a little apartment at the time…and then she had a terrible period accident on my stepdad’s bed. And I had to help her get it out…and I had just had this very intense foot surgery so I was like scooting down the steps to the basement on my butt to go look for stain remover and stuff…and I was a PRO, acted totally unfazed (in spite of being internally fairly grossed out and worried about stepdad’s reaction). So this is one of my great indignities, when she has claimed that I am cold and rude and standoffish. Like, bitch?? Would a cold and rude person be like “hey no worries, it happens” and help you scrub and fan-dry a giant period stain, all after having had surgery? How dare you, how dare you call me rude!
