steve poking fun at eddie whenever his southern upbringing sneaks its way out is my new favorite thing to think about. his accent, a little bit of a drawl, comes out after a few drinks or when he gets overly excited or when he's angry. better yet, eddie will say things that steve has just never heard of and finds it too entertaining having him repeat certain things.
"okay, okay, just humor me this one last time!" he'll say and eddie will roll his eyes but he'll play along because, damnit, he'll do anything to see his boy belly laugh. "you're going grocery shopping. it's a big shop and you know you can't carry it all so... what is it that you need to help?"
and steve will be all barely held back giggles, eyes crinkling into crescents before he's even begun to really laugh and he looks like a kid waiting to catch santa claus.
and eddie will sigh, laying it on thick by rolling his eyes once more for good measure and crossing his arms over his chest before muttering out, "... a buggy, steve. you need a gotdamn buggy."
seeing steve bend over to cackle is worth any sort of humiliation eddie thinks could ever come from showing his true colors and laughs along with him, his own smile wide and bright as he pushes into steve's space so he can press a kiss to his crinkled cheek.

lmao i feel like i should have been way more excited during the initial relaunch announcements
but it really speaks to how gatekeepy the loudest parts of fandom became and how mistreated certain characters (ie those not part of the chosen pet fav circlejerk on x-tw*tter, which would matter less if it weren’t a vacuum reinforced by the actual x-office) were under outgoing editorial these last five years that even a post-krakoa announcement of my girl finally:
-headlining a flagship
-with an incredible writer and artist team
-a SOUTHERN GOTHIC premise
-the possibility of rogue finally having enjoyable interactions with remy and kurt
-under new editorial (that hasn’t said inflammatory things about said character in interviews afaik)??
still kinda had me like
“cool!!…
…still not pre-ordering. i’ll see for myself in august” 👉👈
and then literally all it took was gail simone’s cbr mini q&a to alleviate everything i was paranoid about
(ie worried that rogue and gambit were only finally getting attention due to corporate knowing they sell/mcu synergy (cough r&g 2.0) while editorial themselves actively hates and sidelines them, that remy might be a punching bag joke once again, that dull - and mostly yt - sausage fest of a proposed line-up, r&g 2.0/uncanny avengers/duggan’s x-men/excalibur fatigue, general saltiness from the inferno exclusion and basic removal from her mothers’ lives)
and basically i now say
bring it!!!!

What I expected reading The Dragon Republic: more conflict, espionage, moral panic and/or reasoning, trauma, substance abuse, more information about the pantheon, philosophy, politics, regicide, other things that would need content warnings if I got more specific
What I did not expect: The interference of a nation based on western nations that follow a religion similar to Christianity and are absolutely full of themselves and pompous

Listening to someone else watch the original ATLA again, just starting season 3, and there's this line where Aang suggests that it didn't just look like he died, but he DID actually die and Katara brought him back. And look, I don't know much about the lore introduced by TLOK, but this sounds like a really fun place to start an AU inspired by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"'s take on the temporary death and resurrection of a cyclical chosen one: Aang is brought back to life and is STILL the Avatar, but his temporary death still also causes another Avatar to be born into the Southern Water Tribe (or Swamp People or refugees on some southern island, whatever).
Like, I know the Avatar is a reincarnation thing, but weird things can happen with spirits! Maybe this glitch in the cycle causes the spiritual equivalent of mitosis to happen to the Avatar and the spirit attached to them, so there's just two of them now! Maybe having two Avatars has some spiritual downsides, maybe not, it's up to whatever path you choose to explore in this AU.
I just think it would be really funny for post-canon 21yo Aang (and the Gaang and the White Lotus and all the spiritual / religious orders on the planet) to suddenly be confronted with a 10yo water tribe kid who is ALSO the Avatar.
A water tribe couple shuffle awkwardly up to Sokka, like, "Sooooo... we think our 10 year old daughter might be the Avatar...? She can, uh, bend all the elements and all that. Look at this shit." And Sokka is like, "Fuck, Aang is dead?!" Before he's like, "Wait, I saw Aang last week, this kid is way too old?!" And he has to hastily contact Aang like, "Hey, buddy, you're still alive, right?" And Aang can only reply, "Uhhh, last I checked, yes?!?!"
It's probably Sokka and Katara who put the pieces of the timeline together and figure out what caused this, because all of the other Avatars are probably initially like, "Yeah, I have no idea what's happening here. I'm you and you're me, but I'm also her and she's also me, and you and her are kind of the same person, but you're obviously different people now? Wow! Good luck figuring all that out, kid! You're really going places none of us have gone before! A real groundbreaker!"
Aang, through gritted teeth, "I am really not TRYING to do that, thank you!"
