This show did an incredible job portraying two people who have different levels/intensities of desire for one another and I was *floored* when Ryuji responded to Amane's confession in episode 4 with so much care, thoughtfulness and respect for both Amane's desire and his own boundaries. "Please make it one sided for a while" will live in my head rent free for the foreseeable future.

And Amane and Ryuji's conversation at the beach in the finale was another heartfelt and expertly written moment. I deeply adore how Ryuji basically went "I miss you and want to meet you whenever I feel like it, and if that means being a lover, then so be it. Let's date".

So yeah, I'm in love with this highly articulate, fictional, Japanese teenage boy

Current WIP: Ohhhhh man, SO MANY. The most pressing one is a retrospective meta on the Only Friends finale, which I must release into the wild before people move on from the show

the midnight diner is like. here are a bunch of people with less than perfect lives. we're going to show you how they go through hardships and sometimes sad bitter or bittersweet endings. and even after their stories are done they will still appear in other people's stories because at the end of the day their lives kept moving despite not being perfect and that's alright. and we're going to make you think about what life and happiness really mean through their stories and you're going to realize that even if things are bad or you don't have what you wished you'd have you can still be happy with the semi-strangers around you that have similar hardships as yours. because the most basic things human use as comfort is food. and little things like a warm meal will mean everything to you when you really need them. and these people will learn to accept what they have even when its not perfect or exactly what they wanted and no matter what's happening in their lives they'll still find themselves coming back to the midnight diner to see familiar faces and chat with the nameless man that fed them when they most needed it. and you're going to cry at the end of every episode

I write for a few different fandoms, including Bleach, Attack on Titan, and the Cybird Ikemen games (though I am largely moving away from writing for otome). My works will always be posted to my AO3, even if they are not posted in full to Tumblr.

Hi, I love what you're doing in this blog. Do you have any recommendations with the same feel as Makanai? Like the studio Ghibli movies. The gratuitous motion, of watching a media just to be immersed in a moment.

Miyazaki described it as ma which means emptiness, which he puts in his movies intentionally so we may experience the emotions in the moment. Do you have any recommendations like that? Where I can watch a media just for being within it and not be a part of some complex detailed plot.

Coraline, Neil Gaiman (book)

I read it for the first time in elementary school. I completely fell in love with the story. I was young and I remember being quite impressed with it (for a children's book, it's quite shocking huh). Years later I reread the book and felt again as if I was reading it for the first time. It's been my favorite book for a long time. I always read it every now and then.

Friends (TV series)

My comfort show. I watch it at any time to have fun or just pass the time. I've watched it so many times that I know almost everything about this series. I can talk about it for hours or write a 10,000-word thesis about it.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (manga)

My favorite manga of my collection. My little paper treasure, as I like to call it. I really like this story, it has everything I enjoy in a piece of media (fantasy, mystery, plot twists, angst, well-developted characters, etc). I really wanted to erase my memories and read it as if it were the first time again. It is breathtaking.

One Piece (anime)

Despite having seen Naruto first, One Piece is somehow more memorable for me. Whether due to its long duration or the complexity of the character/world build, One Piece is a remarkable work that I always talk about when talking about favorites.

Shinya Shokudo (manga, TV series)

Talking about Shinya Shokudo is not easy. Whether it's the manga or the TV series, it touches me on several levels. A feeling of nostalgia for something I didn't experience, coziness and tranquility. There are few media that bring me such nice feelings. It's simple but touching. Even though I have zero kitchen skills, I love seeing Master cooking different dishes and the customers telling their unique stories.

Hajime no Ippo (anime, manga)

It's a lifetime series, published since long before I was born. I've been reading it for so many years already! I always say I need to see its ending before I die. It's something that I simply have as a goal in life lol Seeing Ippo reaching the end of his story. (Mori sensei please be healthy, okay?)

World Trigger (anime, manga)

Amazing story, amazing characters, amazing world building. Everything about World Trigger is amazing to me. I'm a big fan of science fiction and World Trigger delivers everything and much more. The only sad thing about it is the very slow pace for the story to progress, but we have to be grateful that even with health problems, Ashihara sensei keeps going. I'll always support him and wish to see the end of WT someday.

Supernatural (TV series)

I watched it for the first time when I was a kid and it scared the hell out of me. Ever since then I've been watching SPN from time to time. I love the cheap drama and the quirky stories. Although, for me the quality of the series has deteriorated a lot over the seasons and I don't understand the fandom tbh. But that's another topic I guess.

Tokyo Revengers (manga)

Tokyo Revengers started as an obsession and has remained as a favorite. Time travel stories are always a must-read / must-watch for me and TR knows what they're doing with it. I love protagonists who at the beginning are nothing, but over time manage to develop into someone better in order to achieve their goals. Also, Mikey has become a very imporant character for me, I can say that in the end, he was pretty much the reason why I read the whole thing.

*I didn't include movies because I would need a whole list to fit all of them, there are so many that I would like to mention.

Kaiseki with Rescued Food 残り物のかいせき

The kaiseki-inspired meal that I attempted to cook out of mainly rescued ingredients!

In the past few years, I’ve been thinking a lot about sustainability and getting to know the local food rescue scene, and the opportunity came to cook with this theatre group called The Theatre Practice! There was no Hassun or sashimi course, of course, but I tried my best to stick to the flow of the kaiseki dishes. :))

1. Sakizuke (Appetizers) - Rescued Edamame - Kinpira Rescued Bottlegourd and Carrot

2. Yakimono (Grilled Dish) - Rescued Teriyaki Tempeh as seen in Shokugeki no Souma

3. Nimono (Simmered Dish) - Simmered shiitake mushrooms with rescued Daikon

4. Agemono (Fried Dish) - Sakura Korokke, made of rescued beetroot, rescued potatoes, and rescued green peppers. The insides turned pink with the beetroot so I called it a sakura korokke, heh. 5. Tomezakana (Vinegar Dish, before the rice course) -Vinegared Konbu with a umeboshi I found in Daiso. The Konbu was used to make dashi for a lot of dishes! So it’s a great way to repurpose it. 6. Shokuji (Rice Set) - Rice with rescued Edamame - Nukazuke with rescued daikon and rescued cucumbers (Recipe from Shinya Shokudo here) - Miso soup with rescued bittergourd and tofu. (Bittergourd goes well with miso, as Okinawans do it)

7. Mizugashi (Dessert) - Konnyaku jelly of rescued cucumber, rescued lime, and rescued mandarins. The mandarins were from my fridge XD. This was a surprisingly good one because the cucumbers simmered in the syrup were reminiscent of aloe vera yet crunchier. I took 2 days leave to do this, but 10/10 would do so again in a heartbeat! I know things like kinpira stuff and korokkes are not usually in kaiseki, but as I’ve had vichyosse in a Kaiseki before I guess modern interpretations have loosened up.

I like consuming food porn. Passages describing delicious feast, Shinya Shokudo cooking up sundry Japanese dishes - and do you want to know the truth? I'm a very picky eater at the best of times. I wouldn't actually eat half those things.

And let's not even get to the aro-ace enjoying reading some explicit sex scenes...
